Heyyy! I hope ur doing okay if ur requests r open can l request reader asking if she can see whats under sanzu’s mask like that one scene in naruto where he tried so hard to see kakashi’s mask something similar and funny like that take ur time l love ur work <333
%% BEHIND THAT MASK! #!/
characters : aged up!—Sanzu Haruchiyo
a/n : i cant believe im rewrtiting this sorry if this is half assed tumblr didn't save my draft earlier, enjoy ig
Sanzu Haruchiyo..... your masked bf sometimes you were wondering what behind that mask but ofc you wanted to respect his boundaries and dont want to make him uncomfortable, but curiousity start to eat you alive so you have a little plan in your mind
sometimes there's a lot of idea in your mind on why Sanzu didn't remove his mask, maybe he have big lips that unmatched with his face future? or maybe he have crooked teeth? or even worse he doesn't have mouth! but you scratched the last idea since how did he speak if he doesn't have mouth? his nose? yeah that idea once stuck in your head but you decided to remove it because it doesn't make sense at all
you called Sanzu to meet you up infront of a restaurant which he agreed since maybe you were hungry and he is too, you greet Sanzu before taking his hand and walk into the restaurant with him
"today is my treat" you said smiling he raise an eyebrow you were cheerful more than usual "did something good happen?" he ask you shook his head "nope i just wanted to spend time with my lovely boyfriend" you said he nodded start looking at the menu
"are you ready to order?" he ask after a few minutes you nodded letting him call the waiter, you both said your order as the writer write down your order, you noticed Sanzu's order was a heavy meal he probably going to remove his mask
you smile to yourself before mentally patting yourself for coming up with this idea as soon as your food arrived you stare at Sanzu causing him to raise an eyebrow "whats up my love?" he ask you shook your head "nothing eat up" he nod "you too" you nod
you stare as he was about to remove his mask until your phone start ringing you look at the caller ID noticing it was your boss you look at Sanzu "eat first i have to answer this call" you said he nod as he watch your figure walking out from the restaurant
you listen to your boss rant about how her husband keep cancelling their date and how she think he was cheating on her while you were wondering why the hell your boss telling you all of this as she finally hang up you walk into the restaurant only to be greeted by Sanzu scrolling through his phone you blink
"oh baby! what took you too long? oh and im sorry i finished my food first i haven't eat since yesterday" he said giving you closed eyes smile you nod sitting "did you forgot to eat again?" you ask he nod "im very busy yesterday and just go to sleep as soon as i got home" he said you nod
attempt 1 : failed
"want some?" you ask offering your food he shook his head "im full already" he said you nodded visibly deflated "whats up pretty girl? you were all cheerful a while ago" he said chuckling you shook your head from side to side finding a reason and decided to use your boss phone call as your reason "she did it again" you said he pat your head
"did she start ranting to you again? what was is about?" he ask you sigh "about her husband this and that you know the usual why don't they just divorce?" you said leaning to your chair
"maybe you should find a new job if you were that sick of your boss personal life rant" he said you nodded "yeah i should" you said
the second attempt might make him mad but what is life without a little thrill and spice right? right.
you took a deep breath before apologizing gripping the tray in your hand you walk inside the room smiling at Sanzu you walk toward him then purposely trip yourself
you watch everything happen in slow motion how the juice flew and wetting his mask you cheer silently before your face kiss the floor you groan but being muffled by your carpet Sanzu gasp ignoring his wet clothes and mask
"y/n?! are you okay? oh my why are you suddenly become clumsy?" he ask as he help you to get up you have to swallow your image its not even 6 month into your relationship here you are doing stupid things just to what behind his mask
he hiss when he saw your red forehead with a little bloody lips "we should get that lips treated" he suggest you nodded "let me put this away your hoodie was in my closet along with extra mask" you said silently before walking out from the room leaving a little space for you to peak in
you feel your cheeks heat up as you watch his half naked body you silently cheer as he was about to remove his mask when your doorbell rang causing you to curse silent
you keep debating either to look and discover what behind your boyfriend mask or to answer the door you were deep in thought when Sanzu clear his throat his cheeks tinted with rosy pink just like his hair
"i didn't know you're that type of person" he said clearing his throat again you look up before cursing yourself "oh no you got the wrong idea let me go and answer the door ok?" you said walking a little bit too faster "be careful!" Sanzu called as he look you who almost tripped twice
attempt 2 : failed
you look at Sanzu as you keep following—more like stalking—him you tried to make sure you didn't lost him maybe he would remove his mask at the most random time especially when he's alone? yeah thats what you think ,you were now dressed in all black outfit paired with black cap and black mask
yup much like a stalker
you watch him keep turning and leading you to a dark hallways wondering what he was doing here, little did you know he noticed you following him but didn't have any idea it was his girlfriend
"fuck" you curse silently as you lost him you were about to take another turn when someone pull you to opposite turn you yelped both in suprise and pain when your back make a harsh contact to the cold and dirty wall you hiss from how strong someone's grip on your hands is
"who are you and why are you following me?" he ask you stay silent too scared to answer him, Sanzu chuckle "why are you all silent? acting all scared are we?" he said you shiver under his sharp gaze
"i ask you questions" he said you shut your eyes he sigh annoyed and start to loose his patients then decided to remove both your mask and cap you felt his grip on your hands loosening
"y/n?" he said in softer voice than earlier you still shut your eyes tightly slightly trembling "darling look at me" he said as one of hand slither to your waist while the other cup your cheeks thumb caressing your cheeks "open your eyes my love im not going to hurt you" he said you open your eyes slowly meeting his soften gaze
"why are you following me like that? i thought you were one of those people who tried to get me again" he said chuckling you didn't answer instead hugging him burying your face into his chest
"did i scare you that much?" he ask you shook your head as a no, you were actually embarassed of yourself for doing dumb thing to get him to remove his mask
"then why?" he ask hugging you close to him "im sorry" you said he raise an eyebrow "why?" "im sorry for doing dumb thing lately and following you like earlier" you said he chuckled you look up to him
"i get it now" he said removing you from him gently then cup your cheeks with both of his hands "you know you can just ask right?" you pout "i just dont want to make you feel uncomfortable" he shook his head
"you will never im actually waiting for you to ask me by yourself" he said you nodded "then can i uh you know" he nod letting you remove his mask
heart beating loudly Sanzu was prepared from any insult from you yet nothing came our from your mouth, does he freak you out? he was about to apologize when you whispered out a very unexpected word he expects you to say
"beautiful" you said he froze not believing what he just heard "what?" he ask for confirmation "i said beautiful" you repeat before caressing his scars with both of your thumb he sigh in relief
"really? i thought you were going to freaked out" he said you shook your head with confused face while your attention was still on his face "why would i?" you ask
"people always told me its disgusting i thought you would too but apparently not im relieved" you heart broke a little from his words "who the hell said your scars is disgusting?! let me beat them up" you said with determination he shook his head "its okay you were an absolute angel i cant imagine you beating people up" he said pressing a kiss on your forehead
"you look hotter without mask" you whisper he smile "is that so?" he ask you nodded then cover his face with his mask "and only me can see you my beautiful and handsome and hot boyfriend without his mask no one can see your full face they would fall for you" you said he chuckled before ruffling your hair
"whatever you say angel" he said you smile as he lead you out from the hallway just so your know he would use your silly attempt to tease you in the future
attempt 3 : successfully failed

Adore You (Yamato x Reader)
A/N: hi guys. Yamato is your secret admirer and you are desperate to find out who's been leaving all these gifts at your doorstep. Civilian reader. Will be two parts, and since i just found out i have the coronavirus and cant leave the house, i’ll be putting out the second part very soon.
Ps i headcanon that yamato would be very shy and awkward with his crush. i also think that when he is nervous he definitely has really sweaty hands. idk thats just the vibe i get from him lol. please enjoy.
Word count: 4500
Y/N walked down the street after a long day of working in the bakery, kneading dough and icing cakes and sweets. It was a great job, and she really enjoyed the company of the two elderly owners. In her arms was another small picnic basket filled with sourdoughs and garlic loaves and cinnamon raisin buns. Those leftovers served as her breakfast, lunch, and dinner most days and it saved a lot of money on groceries.
Sometimes, she gifted the bread to friends and family though, like tonight.
As she walked the bustling streets, people walking home from work for the night, she noticed a couple of familiar faces sitting in the windows of a nearby restaurant. Feeling a little social, she walked into the restaurant and turned the corner, walking through the tables and past other booths full of people talking and drinking. It was busy tonight in Konoha, everyone getting ready for the weekend.
She came to a stop beside their table, and shifted so her basket rested in the slight curve of her hip. With her free hand she waved to the men, a small smile gracing her lips.
“Kakashi, Yamato,” she chirped, “I saw you guys in the window on my way home from work and thought I’d stop in to say hello.”
“Y/N. What a pleasant surprise.” Kakashi hummed, peering over his glass of golden liquid at his friend, who he could tell was struggling to figure out what to say or do. Yamato wasn’t normally nervous; he was very cool headed. How else would he become such an important Anbu member? But around Y/N, this woman with flour dusted in her hair and the smell of cinnamon and chocolate on her clothes, he crumbled. Just that smell alone could make Yamato lose his composure. And Kakashi knew that very well. “As a matter of fact, we were just talking about you.”
Yamato coughed on his drink, covering his mouth with his arm to keep from spitting up on the table. Even if they were just talking about her, it was completely uncalled for for Kakashi to stab him in the back like that. He turned to face the young woman who looked down at him with curiosity in her eyes.
“Really? What about?” she questioned, raising a brow.
He averted his eyes to the table again where his hand rested clutching at the glass. “We were just discussing the bakery,” he explained sheepishly, a hand going to rub the back of his neck. He felt the stress coming on, and sweat was beginning to gather on his palms. He felt ill, and more importantly, upset with the friend sitting directly across from him, smirking under that damn mask.
What an evil bastard.
“Mind if I join you guys? I could definitely use a drink.” She motioned to the seat next to Yamato, and he scooted closer to the wall to make room for her. She made sure her basket was sealed and secure before reaching over the table to Kakashi. “Can you sit this next to you? I don’t wanna take up the whole table.”
“No problem.”
She slid into the seat beside Yamato, and he realized just how small their table really was. The chair was clearly made for one person, or maybe two small people. They were just inches away. He could literally feel the heat of her thigh beside his. He was losing his mind, he was sure of it. There was absolutely no reason to act or think this way just because of a woman, a little baker from the village. No reason. It was inappropriate.
He took a deep breath and sipped on his drink. Everything was cool. Y/N L/N was cool.
“What kind of goods are you bringing home tonight?” Yamato asked calmly.
“Uh, lets see. A sourdough loaf and a garlic rosemary loaf. Also, I have about eight cinnamon buns in there,” she listed off the top of her head, “Why? You wanna take some home with you, because that’s fine. I’m not gonna eat all of it.”
“No, not this time.”
“You, Kakashi?”
“Yeah, I’ll take whatever.” It was a free meal for the next day? How could he say no to that?
The waitress came around, and Y/N ordered a tall glass of some sweet drink, something she knew wouldn’t taste like shit but would get her all warm and cozy quick, fruit juice covering up the taste of poison. “So, what were you guys talking about before I came around? I didn’t mean to interrupt you.”
“It’s good you came around, actually. We could use a woman’s opinion here.” Yamato glared at Kakashi, pleading with everything he had for the copy nin to just leave it alone. Kakashi was set in his goals though, and pushed forward with what he was saying. “It’s about Tenzo.”
An even brighter smile grew on her lips, one full of mischief and curiosity. “Oohoho? I see. What’s got you men stuck?” She loved to gossip, it was just something so interesting in her mundane life. Surely, it wasn’t as interesting to shinobi who almost die all the time and always have something to do, but for a village girl who goes home every night to read and eat bread, and then go to work where she just makes and sells said bread, a bit of juicy personal information really intrigued her.
“It’s honestly not a big deal-”
“Our boy here, he’s got a crush.”
Her eyes widened and suddenly, she felt the urge to down even more of her drink. He was interested in someone? She never expected that. He was always so quiet and calm, and kept to himself. He didn’t seem like the type to ever care about someone in that way. She sighed, taking a long sip on her drink, which tasted like peaches and oranges. At least it was sweet enough to help her curb the impending sadness.
Maybe she was stupid for it, but she cared for Yamato. He was such a sweet and kind man, so earnest and gentle. He was everything good about her mornings, when he would walk in and ask for the same hot cross bun to start his day. He would smile and compliment the cake decorating she was working on, and tell her about his missions and what he had to do for the day.
Perhaps Y/N had the tiniest of crushes on Yamato. It was something she would never reveal to anyone else, but it was true. She couldn’t deny herself that fact.
Kakashi stared at the woman, gauging her reaction to the statement. From the way she immediately went to sip away half of the drink in her glass, and the way her shoulders curled in on themselves, he could guess how she was feeling. He wasn’t usually a fan of meddling in other people’s business, but he was beginning to feel tired of Yamato complaining day in and day out about how he could never get the girl or express his feelings. He was afraid of rejection, as sad as that might be.
He was just there to give them a push in the right direction.
“I see.”
“What do you think he should do? What do the civilian girls like?”
This crush was just another civilian. It would be one thing if he fell in love with a kunoichi, someone she would never be able to compete with, but the thought of him choosing another normal woman over her, the envy practically oozed from her pores. What did this other girl have that Y/N didn’t?
Y/N ordered another drink when the waitress walked by. And then another after she drank the second one. Might as well get more down and drown out these jealous thoughts.
Meanwhile, she listed off things that random women normally like when men do for them, things she didn't really care about like chocolates and asking them out to dinner and giving them stuffed animals. Boring things. Things they all already knew. Kakashi agreed that the advice was kinda bland, and he could have come up with that easily.
Yamato eyed her down nervously as she practically chugged the rest of her drink. The woman wasn’t a big drinker, just a couple innocent cocktails here or there, never with the intention of getting drunk.
“You okay, Y/N?”
“Yes, I’m perfectly fine,” she told him smoothly. “Anyway, I’m not done telling you all about us village girls.”
The third drink came by and she sighed, taking another long sip. At least it tasted good, that made it easy to drink and drink and drink.
“Maybe you should slow down.”
“Maybe you should worry about yourself. I’m grown. I can handle myself, Yamato.” He felt a pang in his chest at her sharp words, ones that he’d never really heard directed toward him. She scolded Kakashi on the daily for being a pervert, but only kind words met Yamato’s ears previously. “Anyway, about this girl. Have you tried getting her anything as a gift? The things I listed before? Love notes? That sorta thing?”
He shook his head. “Well, no. I haven’t tried anything yet.”
“That’s the thing about you, Tenzo. You’re so modest. If you want the girl, you need to go in and get her. You need to show her what she means to you, since you can’t bring yourself to just outright tell her.”
“The whole bold displays of affection aren’t my thing.”
She hummed, her head lolling from side to side as she twirled the straw of her drink in between her fingers. “Maybe you should try some roundabout approach since you’re so scared of rejection. Send her anonymous letters and gifts, give her little clues that it’s you and see how she reacts.”
“Like a secret admirer?"
“Exactly! That’s sooo romantic. I wish some guy would do that shit for me.”
Kakashi raised a brow. “Oh, really?”
“Of course. I’m almost 27 and I’ve never had a long lasting relationship. I just want some guy to really, I don’t know, just love me. Love who I am, not hook up with me for my body or-or only pretend to like me for coupons on bread,” she complained, quite loudly as well. “Fuck those guys and their bread discounts...”
“Y/N-”
“I’d suggest you do something like that for your crush. Make her feel like you really care about her mind and soul.” Y/N clutched her hand over her heart and squeezed the front of her dress. “So many men nowadays act like horny teenagers, and us ladies are sick of it.”
She really did not need to go into such detail, and Yamato could tell she was drinking too much. Y/N would never say these things aloud if she were completely in her right mind. He felt rude just sitting there letting her rant on and on, exposing her own feelings to the table. But at the same time, he was grateful to know what she wanted in a lover. She never really let on what her romantic life was like, other than single for the most part.
That is what he and Kakashi were discussing before she came around. He was desperate to sweep her off her feet and woo her, to make revealing his feelings easier. Kakashi told him to just go to the bakery and tell her right then and there, but that was just too bold. He wasn’t going to go in without a plan, it was irrational.
“Yamato, I’m telling you, if this woman rejects you, she’s fucking stupid. You’re a catch. You and Kashi over there, both of you could get any woman you want, and that’s a fact.” the woman waved her hand to emphasize her point, only to knock the rest of her fourth drink over into her lap, sticky syrup soaking into her apron and through to her skirt. “Oh man.”
“I think it’s time for you to head home, little miss Y/N,” Kakashi chimed in, “This is exactly why we don’t bring you to bars, you know.”
“Shush. I am fine.”
Yamato sighed, motioning with his hands for her to move to the edge of the seat. He rolled his eyes at her words, knowing she was talking out the ass. “Yeah, yeah. Just get up, Y/N. I’m taking you home.”
Both men were surprised when she lifted her hand and pushed him away from her. Her glare was intense, anger behind those eyes. “No! Not you. I want Kakashi to walk me home.” The man was taken aback by the harshness in her tone. She was normally calm tempered, but her head was spinning and she was obviously growing moody.
“That’s fine by me. Yamato, you’ll pick up the bill for us and uh, clean this mess, right?” Kakashi smirked as he slid out from the booth and picked up her bag of baked goods. She followed suit, climbing out of her seat and grabbing onto the shinobi’s arm tightly. He really couldn’t care any less about her nonsense. It had been so long since they became friends, he’d seen her in every mood imaginable, and much drunker than this. He’s walked her home more than a few times in their past years.
“Curse you, cheap-ass.”
“Gotta go.”
With that, the white haired man walked out the restaurant with a woman in tow. They lived in the same direction, so he started down the street as she stumbled after him, tripping occasionally on pebbles. He felt bad for his friend, really. But the answer was clear as day now. Y/N cared for Yamato a lot more than she let on. It was just up to one of them to make a move. He couldn't do everything for them.
She tripped along beside him, letting her head fall against his shoulder a few times. Her eyes slid up to the man’s masked face, and he felt her hands begin to quiver a bit around his arm, just a tiny bit, but it was still there. Those little, very-telling, tremors.
“What’s wrong, Y/N?” he asked gently, knowing she would immediately spill whatever was stuck on her mind.
“Kashi, why does Tenzo want some other village girl?” she questioned, her cheeks puffing out and her eyes getting watery with tears. “Why doesn’t he want me? I want him so badly, it hurts right here.” she placed her free hand over her stomach and gagged. “I might throw up, it hurts so much.”
“Trust me, it’s gonna be okay,” he hushed, a tiny smile on his lips. He didn’t want to reveal too much to her, but it was just so amusing pulling the strings like this. Two of his friends, one a subordinate and the other a sneaky baker, falling for each other right in front of him. With all the work piling up, this was definitely a refreshing take.
“Also, you shouldn't throw up. It'll burn your throat, you know.”
She nodded, and just clutched onto her stomach as they made their way down the narrow alleyways toward her small apartment. He unlocked the door for her when she struggled to fit the key into the tiny hole that blurred together with everything else. He was a good friend, she thought, and made a mental note to thank him next time she saw him. Well, she tried to make a mental note, but when her body hit the mattress in the corner of her small studio, she found herself drifting away.
__________
God, her head hurt so badly she thought her skull was cracking open right then and there, as she lifted her head from her pillow. Light shined in through the window only to make things worse than before. She looked around the room and noticed that her coat was hung up properly on the hook and her shoes were sitting by the door. Her basket rested atop her counter.
Most importantly, on her nightstand sat a glass of water and a couple pills, ready for her to take the moment she woke up. Kakashi or Yamato must have walked her home and put her to bed. They were very nice men, she enjoyed having them as friends, she just worried she had made a drunken fool of herself last night in front of them. She rarely drank heavily, for that reason. She couldn’t even remember what happened, just that she met them at the restaurant and then the rest fell empty in her mind, little images blending together until she couldn’t decipher a thing that happened. She was more than ashamed.
How could she lose control of herself so casually, she wondered. She never even wanted to drink, much less enough to give her this searing headache. Something must have happened last night that influenced her decisions. Maybe she had a drinking contest with Kakashi like that one time before. If so, that was completely uncalled for on the man’s part. He knew her tolerance.
Nevertheless, she needed to get ready for work. A hangover wasn’t enough to heed the workings of the bakery.
She took the pills, and threw off her covers, walking over to her counter to take out one of the cinnamon rolls, taking a big bite to curb her hunger pains. After taking a moment to compose herself, she got ready for work. If she was late, she knew the owners would be forgiving, but she still felt bad regardless. She was going to walk in looking like a complete disaster.
As she headed out her door that morning, she stumbled on something sitting right at the foot of her doorstep on the welcome mat. Resting there, in a tiny little ceramic pot, stood a bonsai tree, trimmed and cared for perfectly. Her eyes scanned the area for who could have set it there, but met only empty space.
Hesitantly, she picked it up and brought it into her home. There was no note attached, nothing to signal who’d given it to her. Just a little tree that she would put on her window sill. It was strange, she had to admit that, to receive an anonymous gift at such an hour. She’d have to ask her friends about it later on to see if one of them had given it to her, for reasons she didn’t know.
But as the days went by, and those days turned into weeks, she continued to receive gifts every few days. More tiny trees in pots, sometimes flowers in little glass vases. None of them at first had anything attached until the most recent piece which when she picked it up to take into her home, a folded piece of paper sat beneath the vase. She made sure to pick it and put it in her apron to read on her break when she went to work. She didn’t have the time when she woke up only about 20 minutes before she was due at her job.
She was more than grateful for the little garden she was accumulating on her window sill, the beautiful flowers and trees somehow surviving despite her little knowledge of taking care of them. She stopped by a flower store in town to get some fertilizer just to keep them alive. It would be a shame if they died since someone was being so kind as to give them to her.
With her boring life, the flowers brought a smile to her face and a warmth in her heart that she hadn’t felt before. Regardless of who was leaving the items there, she felt like she was important to someone. Some person was taking time out of their day to show they cared about her.
Truthfully, she’d be lying if she said she hadn’t wished it was Yamato leaving her gifts. She’d been attracted to the man for quite some time, ever since they met really. He was just so strong and brave, and awkward in a cute kind of way. He was truly the only man of her affections, and she could only dream she was the object of his as well.
It was more than unlikely though. He was a strong ninja of the leaf. The chances of someone that amazing wanting to be with someone as simple as the town baker were lower than she wanted to admit. He most likely had his eyes set on some gorgeous kunoichi like Shizune or Kurenai. Someone he could relate to, really.
It was embarrassing to even admit she had a crush on him. It made her feel so tiny and weak, knowing that she wasn’t his ideal.
So she pushed that thought from her mind. Yamato would never be interested in her, and he most certainly not the one leaving her little notes and plants.
What she did know was that this person was a shinobi. Maybe not Yamato, but they were definitely a shinobi. She set up a trap, at least one she thought a normal person would fall for. Right before her door, she set up a tiny trip wire made of floss at the perfect level for someone to pull loose when they walked up to leave a gift on her welcome mat. Her room was at the very end of the hallway, so there was no way anyone else except her secret admirer was the one to set off the trap. Any normal person without the high perception of a shinobi would set off the trap and she would be able to narrow down the results to a civilian.
Only, the morning after she set up the trip wire, when she opened her door, there sat another bouquet of flowers, as well as an untripped strip of floss.
This person had to be a shinobi. She concluded. It was the only explanation in her mind, desperate to find out who the mystery person was all this time.
As she walked the streets that afternoon after the store had closed, her eyes honed in on Yamato, who stood next to a vegetable stand picking up some groceries. Immediately, she turned on her heel and cornered him between the squash and the sweet potatoes.
“Yamato, I need to talk to you. It’s urgent. Do you mind?” she practically demanded, and his eyes widened. He did not expect such an abrupt conversation between them. He shifted awkwardly to rest his grocery bag in the crook of his elbow and lean on his left side, arms crossed over his chest.
He knew what she wanted to talk about. It was about those gifts that he had been giving her. It was just a matter of whether she had figured out it was him or not, that was the question. He was kinda hoping she didn’t know yet. He was not ready to face what came after the reveal, rejection or otherwise. He really hadn’t thought it that far out yet. How could he. Just thinking up love notes and what plants to give her next was more than enough to worry about.
But damn, when he looked down at her, hair dusted with flour from a days work, a smudge of cake batter still on her forearm, apron a complete mess, he wanted to cave and tell her everything. She was just so beautiful, so clumsily perfect he couldn’t help but lose his train of thought. He swore he’d never seen a woman more perfect than her, not even Naruto’s sexy jutsu could come close to this girl.
He found his ears heating up and no doubt turning red at the thoughts running through his mind, and he was quick to smother them down. He was not irrationally emotional. Hell, he was ANBU, he should be able to control his emotions down to a tee.
“Yes, Y/N?”
“I have a secret admirer, and I know they are a shinobi.”
He felt himself growing nervous. How had she deduced that? “Ah, that’s definitely exciting for you. How do you know it’s a shinobi?”
“I know because I set up a tripwire last night and the person didn’t set it off, so I know they are coordinated enough to avoid it. This isn’t just some random village boy. This is someone skilled.”
“Y/N, he could have very well just avoided the trap with his natural gait, don’t you think?” he tried to reason with her, try to get her off his trail. Admittedly, he thought she was quite clever for setting up the trap. When he walked over it the night before, he swore it was just a spider web. He didn’t even consider the possibility of a trap in his way.
If only he could throw her off his scent. He needed more time. He couldn’t confess to her now. It was too abrupt, too sudden. He would probably die.
“No, I’m convinced it’s a shinobi.”
Shit. “Well, what are you going to do now?”
She thought for a short moment on what she was going to say, tapping her foot on the ground beside her. Her eyes widened and she smiled at the thought that ran through her mind. Of course, it was so obvious. “The gifts come sporadically, so I know that the shinobi can’t leave gifts when they are on missions. Next time there is a long break in gifts, I will just ask around to figure out who has been on a mission for a while. Bam, I’ve got my answer. It’s foolproof.”
She really had thought this through more than him. She was too good, and he felt himself panicking. He had a weeklong mission in 3 days, and if she asked anyone, they would tell her it was him. He felt moisture gather up at his brow, and he internally cursed his situation. He had to find some way out of this mess without her figuring out it was him.
“Yeah, that could definitely work. I hope it all works out for you, Y/N,” he lied through his teeth.
“I know. I’m just smart like that, aren’t I?”
“You sure are,” he muttered, but honestly, he just wanted to go off and find Kakashi. He needed to talk to him. His eyes slid away from Y/N and he sighed. “I’ve got to go, but I’ll see you around, yeah?”
“Yeah, of course. Don’t forget to stop by before your next mission to get some of our special food pills, okay? I just made a new batch and you can try them free of charge. Anything for a fella as handsome as yourself.” She laughed, shifting her weight to press a hand to her hip.
Jeez. There was no good reason for her looking so adorable. Calling him handsome as well? It was all too much for his heart to handle. Needless to say, he felt like he was going to explode if he didn’t walk away right then. With that, he simply nodded before patting her shoulder. “Like I said, gotta go.”
“Oh, okay. See you around.”
“See you.”
He walked away quickly, heading in the direction of Kakashi’s apartment, knowing he just had to do something about the mess he was currently in, and ways to avoid the inevitable. His heart was racing so fast he thought he might be having a heart attack. How could he be swayed so easily by a pretty face. He had no idea, but he really wanted it to stop. For the sake of his sanity, he needed to learn to be calm around her.
He would tell her soon, get all this off his chest and share his true feelings. He just needed a bit more time.

Itachi is loyal to the Akatsuki (despite he’s said to be a spy) and here’s why:
We know Itachi joined the Akatsuki to spy and sneak the informations back to Konoha, right? But let’s ask yourself this question:
“How much informations has been sent back to Konoha so far by Itachi???”
And after many researches, the answer is “NONE”
First, Itachi, as a fellow Akatsuki member, must know tons of info about his comrades power (Hidan’s and Kakuzu’s immortality, Deidara’s art...) and he could have sneak those infos to Konoha but no , he didn’t, proved by the fact that whenever a team of Konoha faced a brand-new pair of Akatsuki, they just showed their “WTF” face through out the entire encounter, and usually took many more fights to work out the power of said Akatsuki pair.
Second, and this is also the most important piece of information that Itachi knows about the Akatsuki , is Pain’s/Nagato’s power. Itachi is an Uchiha so he must recognize a pair of The Rinnegan when he sees one (he’s an Uchiha, duh, they have a real piece of stone in their basement that talks about The Rinnegan). We don’t know how much Itachi knows about the Rinnegan (probably not to an extent that he could work out the secrets behind The Six Paths of Pain), but he must know one or two things about the eyes. But the point is
“Itachi keeps the secret to himself and not sharing it to Konoha”
This info about the Rinnegan , if shared, could actually save Jiraiya’s life. Itachi just need to say “hey , our Leader has The Rinnegan , which is super powerful, so be careful” and Jiraiya will know exactly who the Leader is, and how he should approach the fight against Pain/Nagto. But, no, Itachi didn’t reveal any shit to any one, coz HE’S LOYAL.
There’s also a few more small facts like Itachi taking part in stalling the Konoha’s shinobi to finish the One-Tail sealing or giving advices on how the Akatsuki should take actions (he said it when Kisame successfully captured the Four-Tails in chapter 353).
And that’s my opinion, please share me yours, would like to know.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YES
THANK YOU
ive been waiting for an opportunity to rant, buckle up bitches here we go
first of all itachis loyality lays with sasuke not with konoha and you can fight me on that he may have killed the clan for konoha but as far as we know he could have just ghosted them afterwards
i like to think he just told them the biggest bullshit like: “yeah you see there is that smol gremlin whose superpower is annoying ppl into submission, he calls it katsu but if you ever hear him say that just stand still and cover your ears and you are definitely safe” or “there is the huge blue guy, you cant miss him, he actually just looks like that cause he fucked up when he dyed his hair that one time and now he just kinda vibes with the shark aesthetic but dont worry about sharks, there arent any”
cause konoha didnt know jackshit when they came, i am especially fond of the fight against the zombie combie cause they were so fucking clueless “oh no what is he doing with that circle? why doesnt he die? what does he do with the blood? who is the big guy?”
and the fact that kakashi had to tell them “oh yes thats the guy that tried killing the first hokage that we maybe should have recognized cause its a powerful enemy who tried killing our first hokage, oh wait why is he with the akatsuki?” is sending me every time like itachi saw him and was like: “should i tell them that powerful guy that could really fuck them over is still alive and a member of akatsuki?...........nah”
we can safely assume itachi didnt tell them shit and i love it
and what you said about pein is true too, i didnt even think about that yet its the fucking rinnegan, he saw them and didnt think that the fact that the leader has the most powerful eyes in the history of his clan was important for konoha to know? pls
that just adds to my wishful thinking that the akatsuki did like each other and were all loyal

Could u continue the scenario where the reader saves Konan by joining Tobi, please??? IT IS SUPER GOOD I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT PART!!!🙏😋😀😀😀😃
Thank you for the support to everyone requesting this story be updated and sorry for the long wait :)
Part I Part II Part III Part IV
Reader begging for Konan’s life: Part V
“Damn that Kabuto!” Tobi cursed into the infinite space of his Kamui.
You were unprepared to have been sucked into his jutsu and landed on your hands and knees ungracefully. You gasped at the impact and sat back once you got your bearings while Tobi was going off. He was fit with rage and couldn’t help but ramble carelessly.
“I will have to be extra careful now that I have a snake slithering about in my own domain. DAMN him! If it weren’t for what he knows, I would have got rid of him. I don’t know how he found Madara’s body. That Orochimaru probably helped him find it. His obsession with the Uchihas has passed down to his conniving apprentice; blackmailing me so he can get to Sasuke. He is MY pawn, not his! Now, I got to relocate him.” Tobi’s rant was winding down. The anger in his voice was lowering and he was no longer sounding like Madara, you noticed. He sighed in exasperation, seemingly feeling overwhelmed by this mess.
“This is all getting rather complicated,” Tobi groaned as he took a long breath. “It’ll be worth it in the end. There will be no more pain. I’ll make the world right for her and bring her back. I’ll see her again. No amount of hiccups in my plan will get in my way of that.” Tobi sounded affirmative; his voice shifting to that which you believe was his real voice.
“No one will get in my way! Not Kabuto. Not the Shinobi Alliance. Not the Kage of the Five Great Nations. Not that blooding Kakashi. Whatever it takes.” He spoke with passion as he clutched his fist; making that promise to himself.
He stood there in silence; contemplating. You watched him for a moment; studying his physique, realizing how important this was to him. The words “whatever it takes” ringing in the back of your head like a siren. He had said it with so much conviction and you felt he truly meant it. Look how far he had come for it already and you wondered about the girl he spoke of. Who she was to him and what had happened to her?
You stood up slowly before you spoke, half reminding Tobi that you were there.
“Leader-sama?”
“We’ll have to be more careful. I don’t need my plans further compromised,” Tobi started as he turned towards you; looking at you through the peephole in his mask. “I’m going to have you move Sasuke to a new room. Do not disclose his whereabouts to Kabuto or anyone of his kind. You’re also going to have to be more cautious in your daily routines and tasks. You are to speak as little as you can with that snake. Understood?”
“Yes, Leader-sama.” You complied with a curt nod.
“Good.”
“Leader-sama, if I may… Sasuke is recovering and recuperating fast. I believe his body has accepted the transplant exceptionally from what I gathered. It won’t be long until Sasuke will be able to use his eyes, probably in a few days if he wishes.”
“NO!” Tobi snapped quickly. “You must make Sasuke think the treatment will take longer. Once he learns that he can use his new eyes, he’ll want to test them. He’ll want to leave and there will be no reason for Kabuto to stay if he knows I don’t have Sasuke.”
“Right…” You hesitated, unsure. “I’ll withhold that information.”
Tobi nodded at your obedience.
“But…”
You drew his attention back to you with a calm voice.
“What of afterwards, Leader-sama? When Sasuke is well, may I be permitted to see Konan again?”
Tobi blinked, pausing shortly. He did not expect that question. He was caught off guard as the thought of Konan’s lifeless body dripping with blood popped into the forefront of his mind. The woman you traded your life for was, unbeknownst to you, dead by his hand. Guilt swept over his body, but he could not afford to tell you the truth. He still needed you.
“You swore your allegiance to me.” He reminded smoothly. “I will need someone by my side when the war commences.”
“Yes, but after the war is won?” You repeated, hopeful.
Tobi saw the desperation in your eyes that brought an ache to his stomach. He remained stoic however, when he answered you.
“You’ll see her again. We’ll all see our loved ones again.” Tobi broke eye contact with you as he couldn’t bear to look at your face any longer for the guilt he felt.
You misread his solemnness; thinking that he was thinking of the girl he had mentioned previously. “Is that what you are doing this all for? For someone you love?”
Tobi felt his shoulders tense.
“Yes,” he answered after a short pause.
Feeling compelled, you stepped forward towards the man you swore your allegiance to. A man whose real name you did not know and a face you did not see. You were filled with compassion and laid a hand upon the man’s shoulder. You knew what it felt like to lose the ones you loved. You missed Yahiko and Nagato deeply; and you sacrificed your loyalty for Konan to keep her safe. You understood where Tobi was coming from, wanting to do anything and everything for the ones you love. Although, he didn’t have to grant your wish, you felt there was enough mutual understanding for him to do so, which brought a soft smile to your lips in appreciation.
“I’m truly sorry for your loss. I would do anything too, to protect the ones I love,” You spoke with empathy. The warmth and gentleness of your touch communicating your feelings.
Tobi did not relax under your touch. The act alone made his thoughts cloudy and made his heart pound. He hadn’t felt this way in a while, but with the combination of his gut tightening, he knew he had to shove off his feelings of guilt to continue.
He turned from your touch; ready to put his plan back in motion.
“Come. We must prepare Sasuke’s new arrangements,” he spoke before he sucked you both up through his Kamui back to his hideout.

why do sasunaru shippers hate sasusaku more than naruhina/sakura more than hinata? || aka a sasunaru shipper explaining why sasusaku is better than naruhina in every conceivable way
yeah yeah this isn’t my lane as a sasunaru shipper to comment on ss because it’s not my ship but it IS my lane to comment on sasuke and sakura, 2 of my favourite naruto characters.
this is my first post about naruto or any series in quite awhile, so excuse any possible errors on my part, but i’ve been thinking and i’d like to write out my thoughts on a particular subject. i’m back with a controversial opinion, of course because those are the only ones i’ll ever have
if you ship sasunaru and u viciously hate sakura i suggest going into this post with an open mind because... you aren’t gonna like a lot of what is said here but i suggest reading anyways :-)
during my time in naruto fandom i’ve noticed a trend among sasunaru shippers(and anti ending people in general), sakura is the butt of all of the jokes and especially after the manga ending and gaiden being released people have loved to make jokes about SS’s marriage but hinata never gets the same negative treatment and my thoughts are only
why?
act i: underratus sasusakus
i’m going to get straight to the point and say my opinion. sakura and sasusaku especially are given extremely unfair treatment and exaggerated belittlement among the sasunaru fandom. allow me to explain why
if you love this bitch right here
you should have done enough character analysis to realize these few things about him
1: he was completely deprived of love and any connections from like age 7 up until he met naruto, sakura and kakashi
2: he felt like he had to push everyone he cares about away because he saw it as weak
and 3: underneath all of his trauma he’s kind hearted
so knowing all of these obvious things, why would you say that in moments like these
he is actually trying to shake off someone he doesn’t like at all and only sees as a girl with an annoying crush?
or alternatively, why would you say he’s abusive and she deserves better but then go and ship him with your favourite character? it’s so transparent and it’s obviously just a filler excuse so you don’t have to actually look into the character dynamics and how they work because you don’t want to admit that your least favourite ship actually isnt awful.
Sasuke isn’t the type of person that would have such disregard and apathy towards a person that’s shown him nothing but love throughout the entire series. that goes against his entire character’s philosophy and most of the arguments seem to be pulled out of thin air also
He obviously cares about sakura plain and simple, no mental gymnastic argument in the world can disregard plain canon evidence. if youre so set on the idea that sasuke doesn’t give a shit about sakura, then i’m gonna raise the question: why would you have a character who doesn’t care about one of his teammates that supported him as ur fave? which leads me to my next point
there’s obviously gonna be theeese kind of people:
“of course my precious baby sasuke loves his team, but sakura has a selfish love and she will never deserve him!!!!”
there are SO many anti sakura arguments from sasunaru shippers that are just plain wrong so i’m gonna use this opportunity to crush them all
“sakura only liked sasuke cause he was hot and popular”
after sakura was surprised that the kid guessed she liked sasuke, she was informed he was popular with the girls
so that one panel gets rid of that argument
“sakura doesn’t really love sasuke, she was going to kill him...”
...because she thought it was her ONLY OPTION to save him from himself, she thought he was too far gone and it wasn’t until naruto showed up that she had hope again (which is why sasunaru shippers being as threatened by ss as they are is so dumb and crazy)
personally i don’t like this aspect of ss and heavily prefer the sasunaru dynamic with the whole eternal never giving up on you thing because it scratches my particular shipping itch but it’s foolish to say that sakura doesn’t love sasuke period, she obviously does and she does deeply and she’s one of the closest people to him and always will be
Sasusaku gets tons of unfair hate just because of the long running anti Sakura meme, and it’s always been the scapegoat of the anti naruto ending crowd. But it’s silly to me because it makes sense that if sasuke doesn’t end with naruto, he would end with sakura
aside from naruto, his closest living person is sakura plain and simple. she’s done nothing but love him, maybe not as absolutely and unconditionally as naruto has, and maybe she did falter but it’s more than anyone else in the entire series(besides naruto) has and it’s more than he’s ever got from anyone else (besides naruto lol) so if sasunaru doesn’t happen why on earth would you be upset that the boy who was so deprived of love for his entire life ended up with this girl?
if not naruto, sakura is the best person for sasuke plain and simple because literally who else in the series (besides naruto) put up with all of his baggage for the entirety of the series, + she raised his child when he was MIA and sarada actually grew up to be a diligent and intelligent ninja. i ain’t even mad when people ship SS
sasuke has recognized all of this, too.
and has thanked sakura for all of the love she’s ever provided for him throughout the years, even when he was not himself and hurting her, she always just wanted him to be okay, and he appreciates it. so of course he married sakura, duh.
you cant even be threatened by their eye smex
because sasuke gives naruto bedroom eyes all day long
he gives a shit about sakura okay?!?! sakura gives a shit about him okay?!?! it’s okay to acknowledge that his canon marriage isn’t the devil while still realizing the objective superiority of your otp!!!!!
all of this can be summarized into, for some reason sasusaku threatens the sasunaru fandom and leads them into having bullshit mental gymnastic arguments against it for no real reason when....
the real monster of the series is naruhina.
act ii: naruheinous disgustus
NARUHINA IS THE WORST SHIP TO EVER COME OUT OF ANY SHOUNEN MANGA, OR ANY MANGA EVER EXCEPT MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE VAMPIRE KNIGHT. I said it.
sorry about coming off a little strong there, but i have a lot to say about this matter, and you know i’m for real when i have a lot to say about something that has so very little.
it seems to me like most sasunaru shippers don’t actually care about naruhina and just give it a free pass cuz it’s boring and she’s nice and cute and whatever
but naruhina is so much worse than sasusaku on every imaginable level
so, so much worse
because where sasusaku at least has friendship
naruhina has nothing
at least where sasusaku has care and chemistry
naruhina has a bland empty space
because hinata is a bland and empty character
[due to plot holes and retcon in the last and other filler, i will only be using kishimoto’s material for this post. but hey, since naruhina is canon only the author written material has to be enough, right? right....? please guys he ships our ship he made it canon i swear he planned everything to end with their epic moon(who sasuke) love story]
we get shown this when naruto gets introduced to hinata and his only impression of her is that she’s a weirdo
We get this when Naruto never ever noticed Hinata, while Sasuke was actively trying to cheer Sakura up
naruhina in part 1 has absolutely NO basis at all. it’s absolutely nonexistent from naruto’s side.
unfortunately... it remains that way.
this moment. this fucking moment is when it all started to go downhill. i mean, naruhina was always at the bottom but this is when it becomes apparent that the ship is never going to pick itself back up.
i’m not going to be one of the people who say that after naruto completely ignored her confession that she should just never think about him again and find a new guy, that’s unreasonable.
however,
naruto completely ignored her confession! in fact, i don’t even think he ignored it. i think it just never occured to him that he should even talk to her which is even sadder imo... sasuke, who is apparently the devil to sasuke, at least y’know... thanked her.
after this happened we never saw hinata’s reaction to this, her feelings on why naruto never replied to her, we never even see her doing anything outside of thinking about naruto/talking to naruto period unless it’s a fight in a flashback
it’s almost like hinata is an NPC in the naruverse programmed to react to anything naruto related and nothing else. you can definitely not say this about sakura, she has a defined personality. Hinata doesn’t.
don’t even understand how this
[sending her son to fight alone against an enemy of unknown strength and only telling him to... take care of naruto-kun]
could ever be favoured over this
sakura > hinata
sasusaku > naruhina
sasunaru shippers = dumb for hating on sasusaku and giving naruhina a free pass
#sasunaru#pro sasusaku#pro sakura#anti hinata#anti naruhina#some SASUSAKU POSITIVITY from a sasunaru eternalist#bc i hate how sasunaru fans are#SS is a god tier bond their romance is just lackluster#meta

My fill for @kakaobiweek2019 day 6:soulmates! Went for more angst this time. Available on ao3 and under the cut.
Obito’s always been a dreamer. Since he first found out what the hokage was he’s spent hours and hours of his life just imagining it. Being inaugurated to the sound of a cheering crowd, his clansmen all there, and even the clan head himself comes up to tell Obito how proud he is, that he always knew he could do it. When he learned about soulmates he started imagining that too. He’s not sure what they’re like, but he knows they’re perfect and it will be romantic, and, and… Well, he’s not sure, but it’ll be great.
Rin feels the same way about soulmates. Part of what makes them such perfect best friends is how much they have in common. They’re both hopeless romantics, both a bit too cheery, both stubborn, and they both get angry pretty easy, even if Rin’s way better at hiding it. Obito knows it would be easy to love Rin. He might already be love with her if it weren’t for their soulmates. The only way to tell who is your soulmate is by getting a scar. What if he gets a scar or Rin does, and the other doesn’t share it the way a soulmate would? He couldn’t handle the heartbreak, even though she really is the best, and it would be so easy to love her.
Soulmates and becoming hokage have drifted a bit from the forefront of his mind, since waking up in this cave. But, with Madara gone off somewhere deeper in the cave and Zetsu busy, Obito can finally think. He doesn’t have a mirror or anything to look at himself in, but he’s felt along his scars, especially on his face, and there’s one that doesn’t fit. A scar that cuts down over his empty left eye, right where Kakashi was hurt the last time Obito saw him. He’s certain none of the rocks hit him there, that it isn’t his scar, and the thought that his soulmate has been Kakashi all along has been buzzing around his head since he realized.
A new dream for him to imagine. To get him through being stuck here in this dark, awful, cave. He’s going to get out of this cave, and he’s going to get back to Konoha. When he reaches the gate, they’re waiting for him. Minato-sensei, Kushina-neechan, Rin, and Kakashi. Kakshi has a scar down his left eye, and Obito’s scar all over his right side. And it’s romantic, and it’s perfect, and the clan isn’t even upset he gave his eye away, because he gave it to his soulmate. It’s great. Everything will be great when he gets out, which he will. After all, Madara said he could leave when he was better.
Drip. Drip. He’s trying to picture it, but there’s water somewhere in this cave. He hadn’t noticed at first, but now that it’s quiet the sound is glaring. He wants it to stop, to get out of here, to never here another drip. If he ever hears a leaking faucet when he gets back he may go insane.
Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, Obito doesn’t have long to contemplate the dripping sound before Guruguru returns from wherever he’s been. Suddenly, there’s word on Rin and Kakashi, and he’s out of the cave. He leaves his new hand behind and runs, his teammates need him, he needs his teammates. He’s not sure how he manages to run so far so fast even encased in Guruguru, but Rin and Kakashi come into sight soon.
It’s not soon enough. What is happening? Why? Why would Kakashi? Obito should have left that cave sooner, he should’ve been faster. He should make these Kiri nin pay. He loses it a bit. That may be an understatement. He doesn’t really remember what happens next, or killing the shinobi. But he doesn’t care. It doesn’t matter. What matters anymore?
Drip. Drip. Blood is still falling somewhere nearby from the Kiri nin. There’s so much blood already on the ground he’s surprised to hear there’s still more to fall. Obito doesn’t want to lay Rin down in it, but he can’t hold her forever. Kakashi is already laying in it. The blood has flowed around and under him where he lays facedown. Obito’s indifference breaks, and he’s angry, furious like he’s never been before, and Kakashi was the one to put his hand through Rin. But…Kakashi still might be his soulmate, maybe there’s a reason, maybe everything isn’t lost.
Obito walks with Rin in his arms until there’s finally no more blood under his feet, and then puts here down gently. He positions her with care, and then slowly turns back to look at Kakashi. He walks toward him with trepidation, and every step feels like he’s walking on the bottom of the sea. Miles of water pressing down on him. He doesn’t know what outcome would be better anymore: Kakashi not having his scars, or having them. Obito kneels down by him, and flips him over with the same gentleness he just showed Rin.
It’s the same. The scar down his left eye, the swirling scars all over his right side. Obito pulls down his mask to be certain, and his bottom lip is bisected in the same place he can feel a scar cutting through his own lip. The blood is still dripping, the cave is still dripping, and Madara is waiting for him there. Kakashi is his soulmate, and Rin is dead. He killed her, but Obito can’t let go of him. Can’t let go of his soulmate. Madara’s talk of a perfect world echoes through his head, resounding besides the dripping. It’s not too late. He’ll pick up Kakashi, and he’ll take him back to Madara, and the three of them can create a better world together. Then Rin, Minato-sensei, and Kushina-neechan can great the two of them when they finally come home. And everything will be great.
Kakashi wakes up in an unfamiliar place. He can already tell this isn’t the hospital or Konoha at all. He does his best to listen and deduce what’s going on before anyone realizes he’s awake. It’s cold and quiet. He’s lying on a cot. Something is dripping in the distance, and closer than that someone is breathing. At this point he doesn’t have much to lose by just peaking a little with his uncovered eye to try and see who they are.
“Obito!” he yells, jerking up, all intent to remain silent abandoned at the sight of his teammates battered face. “Where have you been? Where are we now?” he asks.
Disconcertingly Obito just seems to stare at him in reply, as if he’s considering what to say or how much to admit. Kakashi had hoped at times, staring at Obito’s name at the memorial stone, that maybe all the scars on his right were from the rocks, were Obito’s. For that to be true, for the scars to be his, for them to be soulmates, he’d have to still be alive, and it had seemed impossible. A distant dream. But despite the unpleasant scenery, despite everything else, this must be Obito.
“Obito?”
“What happened Kakashi? Why?”
“Obito, I,” Kakashi stutters. Oh god, he must have seen. Rin, she’s dead, and he let her down, let Obito down. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. The sanbi, it was, it was in her. She, just, jumped in front of me. I didn’t mean to. I swear I would never. I…”
“Stop,” Obito cuts off his rambling attempt at an apology, an explanation. The blank look he’s giving Kakashi doesn’t shift. “It’s okay. It’s not your fault Kakashi,” he adds. Obito’s expression finally gentles, and he reaches his hand to Kakashi’s uncovered face, where he must have pulled down his mask while he was still asleep. He traces over their scars tenderly.
“It…isn’t?”
“All this time I’ve been here they’ve been telling me how worthless this world is, how much better we can do. I understand now that they’re right. I love you. You’re my soulmate, and I know we wouldn’t do that to Rin. This world killed her.”
Kakashi isn’t sure who ‘they’ is. His relief at being forgiven by Obito and the joy at his proclamation of love battle in his mind with his confusion at what’s going on and his worry. He wants to say something, do something, leave, but he doesn’t want to ever look away from Obito again. So instead he just stares silently and reaches his hand up to Obito’s face, mirroring the tender caressing of their scars.
Obito smiles at him, and if it wasn’t for something unsettling deep in his eye it would look just like his grins from before. “Kakashi won’t you stay with me? Won’t you reach for the perfect world together with me?” he pleads softly. He finally removes his hand from the scars, and steps back, extending both hands towards Kakashi in offering.
He isn’t sure what’s happening, what the perfect world is, or how Obito wants to reach it, but… A perfect world seems nice, after the day, week, year, life, Kakashi’s been having. Besides, he’s never leaving Obito behind again. “Of course,” he agrees. He grasps Obito’s hands, and he pulls him up off the cot and towards the darkened end of the cave, towards their future.

Dialogue challenge: “no, I’m upset my friend doesn’t want to help because he insists on being an idiot” for BoruSara
Okay, tbh, I was not supposed to post this fic until I would have written the second part but I have changed my mind and decided to post this piece.
This might turn into a three shot fanfic.
@kairi-chan I think you intended it to be a humorous one but I don’t have any regrets turning it into an angsty one on purpose. I apologize.😂 And I want to say that they’re twenty-three in this fic.
Matters of the heart
Chapter – 1
Mitsuki’s dilemma
The sound ofthe rustle of the leaves and collective footsteps were the only thing thatcould be heard besides some dampened whispers. The Shinobis of Konoha alongwith some other ninja from other hidden villages were mixed in. They were allheading towards the battlefield.
Battlefield? You ask. Yes, it had been so long since a war took place that people hadstarted to take peace for granted. But all that peace was suddenly disturbed bythe sudden invasion from the outer continents. Despite the Kages trying theirbest to control the situation and prevent the war from breaking out by themeans of negotiations proved fruitless. Instead, the meeting between theleaders for Negotiation was a lure trap, the enemy was desperate to finish offthe most powerful shinobis of the Shinobi world at once under this pretence.
Butthankfully enough, they underestimated the prowess of the Kages and especiallyignored the man who has so dutifully been referred to as the Shadow Hokagecapable of a feat called dimension travelling. In a massive battle on the enemyland, the six Kages emerged victorious and alive from the battlefield back to thehome, but with a cost. The severe injuries that incapacitated most of them, with Naruto Uzumaki having taken the greatest burnt of it.
And theyalso ended up with a crazy enemy unable to accept defeat, the flames ofhumiliation and hunger for power burning and starving them. So, all the capableKages and the all the Kage apprentices came together to mobilise the Shinobialliance again to fight the crisis, with Konoha under the cape of Uchiha Sarada, the soon to be Hokage, who was being supported by the previous Hokage – theRokudaime – Hatake Kakashi.
But the warwas not the cause of Mitsuki’s worry. It was rather the man who has also beenhis team mate for long, currently appointed as the supreme commander of theforce that was being directed towards the battle area. Boruto Uzumaki.
Some of therecent actions of Boruto has had tipped Mitsuki over the edge with the degreeof queerness. He knows Boruto and most of the times he is able to decipherBoruto’s behaviour and reasons behind his actions. But not this time. Somethingwas different in this picture and it felt wrong.
Not realizing how obvious he was being in hisglaring the back of his team mate’s head, he was brought out of thoughts with aheavy tap on his shoulder. His golden orbs flickered towards her amber ones asan unsaid question went between them.
Are you okay?
Mitsukisighed. Chocho Akimichi. They were not very close before but came to know eachother better because the girl was the closest female friend Sarada had. Overthe course of time, they grew accustomed to each other and always lamentedtogether over the fact that their attempts at making Boruto and Sarada realisetheir feelings went down the drain.
All in all,Mitsuki could easily call Chocho his partner in crime and a friend.
Before hecould reply, Boruto’s strong voice echoed through the woods, halting them allin the process.
“Let’s camphere tonight. We have made a good progress today. We’ll be heading out tomorrowmorning.”
The forestsounds dimmed as the buzzing of an army of ninjas moved to follow the orders oftheir commander. Amidst the frantic movements, Boruto simply vanished fromMitsuki’s sight.
…
He washelping with the filling up of the water containers when a familiar presenceappeared.
“Spit itout, snake boy.”
“What do youwant me to spit out, fatty?” He asked nonchalantly.
“Why are youupset? And don’t you dare deny it.” She warned gruffly.
“I don’tneed your help, Chubs.” He retaliated again, some reason insistent on notallowing himself to bring out the cause of his discomfort.
“Fine!” sheyells, “but at least go to that bratty commander of ours, he is your friend, after all, he can help you to do something about that stupid sad face you aremaking. Seriously, that gloominess of yours is quite depressing to watch!”
Mitsukitastes something bitter in his mouth at the name of Boruto.
“Actually, no, I’m upset, and my friend doesn’t want to help because heinsists on being an idiot.”
He says,agitated.
“What? Whatdid he do now?” Chocho asks, unimpressed. Boruto being an idiot isn’t a newsnow a days.
“Well, longstory short, Sarada almost confessed.”
“Oh, Isee….wait! What?! Sarada confessed?!”
“The keywordis ‘almost’, Chocho.” He tells her. But in a fraction of a second, the girl ison him, eyes wide and yells at his face.
“When,where, how??? Tell me everything!”
“I will ifyou give me some space to breath.” He deadpans.
She stumblesback with a little flush on her face but settles back a little.
…
“So, you’re all dismissed.” He raiseshis voice and waves his arm to signal the same. The entire group of ninjasvanishes in a blink of eye.
He sighs and leaves to inform Saradathat the task has been completed.
As he is about to enter her officewhen he senses a weird sort of tension enveloping the entire room, so halts andwatches from the shadows.
Sarada moves around with somedocuments, stealing nervous glances at an oblivious Boruto every now and thenwho was busy with a few scrolls spread all over the table.
Suddenly she readies her posture asif she is going to a battle, her onyx eyes lighting up with determination andMitsuki realised something.
Is she…?
Is she going toconfess?
And then he is unable to stop himselffrom grinning.
Boruto is going to beflabbergasted.
He smirks when Sarada speaks out withiron in her voice.
“Boruto, we need to talk!”
“Hmm…about what?”
Maybe realising what she is about todo, she grows nervous and her eyes dart around everywhere.
“I-I need to tell you something!” sheexclaims fidgeting.
Mitsuki grins even wider.
Just one more step.Just one more!
But he is stunned when Boruto moveslike wind and places a hand over Sarada’s mouth, his normally expressive eyeswere even indecipherable at the moment.
He only thought that goes over andover in Mitsuki’s head is ‘He stoppedher?’
Sarada herself is shocked and looksat Boruto with wide eyes trying to gauge out some explanation to his suddenaction.
“Sarada” he halts and swallows thelump in his throat, “whatever you want to say…let’s save it for another time? After the battle?”
He removes his hand from over hermouth and turns around, his bangs hiding his crystal blue eyes but then rotatesaround again and asks with a slightly distorted smile.
“Let’s go and get some hamburgers?I’m hungry and tired. Mitsuki, you too.” He leaves the office passing Mitsukion his way as Sarada tails behind him. She looks at him with saddened eyes andgives him a heart-breaking smile.
Mitsuki grits his teeth.
He extends his hand and gentlytouches her wrist trying to convey that he feels the same way as her. Theconfusion, the anger, and the disappointment…all of it. His golden gaze getsfixated at the golden haired team mate of theirs in front of him.
What the hell do you thinkyou’re doing Boruto?
…
“A-are youkidding me?” Chocho whispers in disbelief.
Mitsukishakes his head solemnly.
“That idiot!Did he know you hard it must have been for Sarada to finally confess?” Sherages,” in fact especially after he doesn’t have enough guts to be honest withhis feelings!”
She turnsaround angrily and bellows, “I’m going to teach him a lesson and pummel himinto the ground for toying with my best friend’s feelings!” she is about tomarch on when Mitsuki’s hand clasps around her wrist firmly.
“No!” hesays sternly, “Don’t. It’s their problem, let them solve. Matters of the heartcannot be answered by outside interference. I believe that they will find away.” The utmost faith with which he utters those words cause Chocho to stop.
She thinkshow hard it would be for him to hold himself back so that his obviously-in-loveteammates can reach to a proper conclusion regarding their feelings.
And heradmiration for him grows even stronger.
Boruto, you better clear up the messyou have made, shethinks.

Looking among the tiny, dimly lit space about him, the blonde couldn’t help some nostalgia rising in his throat. A place named home, was never easy to stroll away from, particularly for someone like Naruto but knowing somewhere deep inside, carved in ink to his soul, beckoned him to ponder, constantly, that this wasn’t truly home… These walls bore homage to his suffrage, his loneliness, no one but he had ever lived here… No one but him. It also was a testament to where this sadness and heart break had also blessed him…Iruka, Jiraya, Sakura, Kakashi…His friends….Sasuke…
Sighing, he looked out the open window, feeling this chilled breeze of the end of spring, whisp across his whiskered, chiseled cheeks. The sweet, smell of Fall approaching from the darkening tree leaves, the sun rays dancing across his resolved and solemn features.
With the lethal grace of the lynx, Naruto jumped from his window,
‘Hold on’, he murmured to his spirit, somehow knowing Sasuke was listening and he was
For he could feel the echoes of the blonde surge within his every vein. It was a magnetic connection, like one has to their own soul, as if they somehow existed within one another.
Cloaked in black, he stood at the gates, Kakashi and Sakura bidding him a farewell for the time being. He had not been surprised Naruto did not accompany the two, they had of course argued of Sasuke leaving again, leaving so soon.
Sakura offered to join him, despite how leaving Ino ached like drinking poison but she had also known the wiser, the best he could offer was not companionship but affection. His heart already claimed. Itachi would have smiled and mocked him for using his same avoidance of emotion, of the distance he kept and now that Sasuke himself had taken habit too.
Sasuke gave them an honest smile before turning away, but it hurt.
Naruto did not call for him again, all he could feel was something like bitter sweetness, only more bitter than sweet. Yet that came from himself, part of him always died when he left Naruto.
As he walked through the bushels of the edges of the forest surrounding Konoha, an all too familiar chakra soared up his spine.
Leaning against a mighty oak tree, stood the boy of his dreams and his nightmares. Blue eyes focused and serious.
“I didnt think you’d come,“ Naruto raised his brows at the statement, feeling one another and their shared residual anger and the distraught, soul scorching feelings that still pulsated between them.
The night before, Naruto had tears in his eyes as Sasuke explained he was leaving again, Naruto had felt it, seen it in every shared look before the day came he told Naruto they had to talk…
“Sasuke what could I do to make you stay? I thought you wanted to do this with m-…together, fix the council…clear Itachi’s name….?
Sasuke would grit his teeth, fists clenched to the point of leaving bloodied crescent moons across pale skin.
All of Konoha, who thought he could be tamed, irritated him, perhaps his burn had begun to fade but this was still no place for him, walking the ground still soaked with so much fucking blood, the blood constricting his chest making his insides crumple in on themselves.
His mind going back to that dangerous place, a place of his sweet mother, smiling… The tainted dirt of the people who had forced his beloved elder brother into genocide, will always haunt each step he takes upon this soil, it was too much, too much.
But how could he explain this, when Naruto was so very different, so bound to the concept of saving every broken and corrupted thing that crossed him?
Compensating for the childhood consumed by knowing he was feared, hated, unwanted…
The night before, when they had fought, Sasuke had lied, lied because for some reason he hated himself, lied because he saw the love of his life through his dead brothers eyes.
“Naruto.” He had said, with a sigh for the ages. “There is nothing here for me now, being here does not make it any easier and - I let you follow far to close, and because of that, I returned only for you but now, we’re getting older, Naruto and I need to see this world, I wont be bound to this place I have nothing else to say.”
Naruto’s eyes stung, his entire body had trembled at Sasuke’s words…
There is nothing here for me now, nothing here for me…Those words kept chanting inside the blondes head.
“You have nothing here now?” He growled.
That’s when things snapped, Naruto pushing Sasuke against his apartment wall, hard, gripping his jaw with rough fingers, hearts pounding.
“So you give me an ultimatum stay here without you or leave my home and you have nothing else to fucking say?”
“I never said any such thing, you moron.” He spat, tugging harshly at golden locks.
Sasuke was ready to fight, but his body had other ideas and they had crushed mouths instead, leaving this friendship, the possibilities… slipping through their fingertips.
Back in the present of the shaded forest, the two boys stood face to face.
“I came to give you this.” Unruly, blonde hair swayed in the sudden bite of wind and Sasuke eyed the object with surprise, with love, with so much sadness that is was beautiful.
“I cannot believe you kept that thing.” Sasuke murmured, keeping his voice from breaking, all these years…Naruto had held onto this, onto him..
With a smile so soft and tender, he took hold of the headband, brushing fingers with the other, something like euphoria snaked into his soul, and he spared his soul mate a glance.
Who he now noticed, wore a knapsack across his back, a beige travelers coat, a few weapons, supplies and a headband tucked into his waistband, it looked almost as though Naruto were going on a mission, and Naruto never removed his headband during a mission, Sasuke gave a questioning glare but Naruto was not looking at him though, but at Konoha. “Even when I hated this place, I always loved it. I guess its not goodbye though, I’ll be seein ya, ya know. I promise.”
Could he be seriously…? Sasuke’s eyes widened and all the air left his body.
“Naruto, I would never ask of you to leave behind your dreams for me, you’ve done enough for me, for us.”
“And i’ve done enough for our village.” Naruto retorted, casually. “I’d say, they can be without me for a couple years. Shikamaru, Sakura and Kakashi…I have faith in them, and ….”
Pausing briefly, bright blues casting a look towards Konoha, once more, “We’ve only just begun to get close again, and well…you know, I’ll miss home, I’ll miss everyone and Ichiraku and Iruka…”
Looking back to Sasuke, Naruto smiled, a little sheepish and then rolled his eyes in seeming frustration with himself. It made Sasuke grin.
“I cant think of anything more painful than watching you walk away from me again. I want to make all kinds of memories with you, like I made traveling with Jiraya, I want to combine our dreams.”
Sasuke did not realize a tear had cast its way down his cheekbone until a soft, warm thumb brushed it away.
“Ready?” Naruto grinned, eyes which rivaled the sun in their piercing, gold warmth.
“Usurtonkachi…”
Grabbing for Naruto’s hand, the blonde intertwined their fingers as they began, slowly, at first, walking through the forest, the lovely hum of nature dancing about them.
“Oi! Sasuke we have to go see Gaara first!.”
“Hn.” Sasuke smiled. “Sounds like a good start and then you should have a proper meeting of my old team, Karin is actually an Uzumaki, just as loud and stubborn.”
“What?” Naruto shouted, elbowing his bestfriend, roughly “You have to tell me all about them!”
“Relax dobe.” Sasuke demanded, rolling his eyes, shoving his shoulder into the other “We have time.”
…….
Back in Konoha, Iruka was running to the Hokage’s office, a letter gripped in his hands, he was crying yet somehow happy, still.
Dear Iruka,
Iruka, if it wasn’t for you, for you showing me kindness, and love, I would not be who I’ am. I don’t intend to ever abandon you and Konoha, and yet I need and hope very much you can understand why I cannot watch Sasuke walk away again.
I leave the village to Kakashi, Sakura, and Shikamaru, I really believe in them. I know you will continue being the teacher and the guardian angel for all the kids like me, like Sasuke.
Let let them all know I love them, tell the old hag I’m sorry I broke my promise about becoming Hokage, it may still be possible, I’m not sure what this path will lead me.
I just know i have to take it, or it will break me and I would regret it forever.
I’ll keep in touch, eat lots of ramen for me and tell the old man i’ll miss him most of all haha.
Bye Iruka, ill be seein ya.
Uzumaki Naruto

due to the recent attention quincey and my strange love child has gotten, i’ve decided to do a post of my ‘character building’ aka ‘me just aimlessly rambling at Q in tumblr chat and getting overly invested in our hopeless little loser’. enjoy (or dont idk idc)
Naruto oc Gear
· platonic bff w/ kankuro
· i feel like they deserve a mullet. they're completely oblivious to why other people Hate it. they think it's cool.
· "it feels swishy kank. kank. feels like Wind Country style. kank why are you laughing?"
· nobody understands why someone 'cool' like kankuro hangs around with this dork
· its like kakashi and gai. kankuro just shrugs - "dude is a good listener. and they write valentines cards to karasu. they're a weirdo and i love them so back tf off'
· gear:: nyah
· kank: what?
· gear, staring at him through their souless glasses: you know, nyah *makes kitty motions*
· *gear proceeds to be drop kicked all the way to fire country border*
· also, nobody know whether gear is male or female or...other?? except their doctor, who enjoys keeping it a secret from a frustrated kankuro.
· gear has promised him a years worth of buying hi hamburger steaks if he manages to find it out, so kank has some incentive
· its been nearly ten years...no luck
· temari doesnt understand the friendship, but its not the weirdest thing her fam is involved in so
· gear is v scared of gaara though, especially when gaara, in a bid to 'understand his family better' tries to get to know him. gear tries to avoid gaara, but he's. always. there.
· kank in the end tells gear to Just Talk to Gaara, there's like a 50% chance he won't kill them (if only for kank's sake)
· wind forwards to a v awkward interrogation session where gear tries to explain the appeal of fireworks and the concept of second hand embarassment
· no wait
· i just had a brilliant idea
· gear is the pioneer of light up ninja sandals
· are they practical? no way
· are they weirdly satisfying? hell yeah
· (when too many shinobi got caught in the field bc their sandals lit up, by decree of the kazekage they can only be worn in the village
· and preferably never, according to Temari)
· also gear is a big fan of shino. why? (because I love shino) but Actually because kankuro is still bitter about losing to him
· so when gear meets shino they make it their mission to become Great Friends, aka the Hoopiest of Froods
· Rub In That Salt. Can You Taste It Kank? All That Salt.
· their name is now Gear, or in the japanese version, Giya ギヤ (aka just Gear in katakana - hell, if it works for Lee.) fter visiting konoha kank is sulking bc gear went on and on about how shino was a Cool Guy and had Flair and a certain je ne sais quois ( doesnt know what that means, but it sounds adoring and he Hates it. Gear is his friend, not Shinos)
· Especially when he remembers that Shino kicked his asssss
· eventually gear gets ticked off and commisions a cake with big writing on it 'STOP SULKING, KITTY'. kank is weirdly frustrated that gear has remembered his favourite flavour cake
· gear makes him sarcastic friendship bracelets
· though gear and shino bond over the fact that nobody knows what their faces/eyes look like. its sort of like an Achievement Unlocked.
· Gear is then integrated into the Aburame family as a honors member
· Gets home made pies when ever they visit
· Kankuro is jelly as usual but does not argue over the pie
· when shino demonstrates his kikaichuu technique, gear waves their arms around making obnoxious buzzing noises. shino sniggers.
· hell most things can be forgiven for pie
· gear actually becomes very good at mimicking the kikaichuu noises so when they go back to suna gear makes the noises when kankuro is least expecting it. the suprised punches to the nose are so worth it.
· I can just see kankuro just spazzing out before just decking this nerd in the face!
· Ok but Kin adopts them and loves them but just...just hates their fashion sense more then anything in the world
· she just eyes their mullet with a twitching brow. gear is holding onto their visor with all their might and watching out for any kunai that might come close to his fabulous mane.
· lets face it, if shino and gear had a bit of a 'snip snip' training accident, kin wouldn't be disappointed
· and of course if gear becomes friends with shino, they gotta get along w/ team eight as well. kiba is eyeing their hair with a strange mixture of envy and incredulity. hinata draws gear up some new face-masks. they love them, even the pink floral ones.
· hinata, handing over the masks: d-do you like them?
· gear, choked up and holding back sobs: they're fine
· Gear has a habit of coming to Kank in the middle of the night with the weirdest shit. They knock on his door at three in the morning looking like they're about to cry.
· G: Kank I've done something awful I'm a murderer
· Kank is basically ready to help bury a body
· K:okay okay don't panic what did you do?
· G: *whispering* I eat eight spiders a year kank. EIGHT SPIDERS. HOW MANY SPIDER ORPHANS HAVE I LEFT TO GRIEVING SPIDER WIDOWS KANK. I'm a MONSTER.
· K:...go home.
· K: Spends the night googling 'is it true you swallow eight spiders a year?')
· i have the idea that gear was a really plain child. you know the kind that never really got noticed and people just realised they were there when they tripped over them.
· and they finally got sick of it when they graduated the academy like
· 'well now im just going to be so Extra you wont have a choice but to notice me fuck you'
· now thats not to say they realise the mullet is a bad idea, however it does have the extra incentive of people going 'oh hi- DEAR LORD WHAT'S THAT ON YOUR HEAD'
· plot twist, they look so completely ordinary under the glasses and mask that even the people who saw their face don't remember it the second they look away
· surprisingly gear makes an excellent undercover operative
· Just take off the mask and goggles and visor, fashion their hair a lil, and put on a plain kimmon and BAM Gear is an under cover cop
· exactly. kankuro is really weirded out by the idea that any of the sort of twenty yo people he passes on the street could be gear
· Kankuro was terrified of gaara but boy o boy does Gear just raise the steaks a lil
· They could be anywhere
· Behind that bush, near the bush, IS THE BUSH
· one time gear was on a mission with their team and they got separated. in the fight, gear lost his mask, broke his glasses and his visor got tossed. when they returned to their team they had to spend the whole journey back convincing them that 'YES this is me i swear see? im wearing the same underwear!' 'how would we know what underwear you started out wearing?' 'I THOUGHT WE HAD A BOND'
· they meet kankuro on the way into town and gear is just like 'here, kank is my buddy, he'll tell you im me'
· 'well kankuro-sama, is this Gear?'
· K:...im gonna be honest i cant fucking tell
· K:but are they wearing blue boxers with ducks on them?
· Squad captain: WHY DO YOU-???
· Kankuro: THINGS HAPPENED OK THEYRE WEIRD AND JUST- DO THEY OR DONT THEY?
· Gear: *shit eating grin*
· Temari actually thought those two were together for a long time and they both just missed her euphemistic references to their ahem 'friendship' until Gaara mentions they couldn't put romantic partners on a team together and Kank just
· ucking falls off his chair like
· K: Wait what? Since when have we been romantic partners?? News to me??
· When he talks to Gear about it they seem unfazed just straightfaced tell Kankiro that 'you make my kokoro go doki doki'. Kank doesn't speak to them for a week
· Aka Gear is once again relegated to the sofa
· Gear seems to say 'so worth it' a lot
· Most of the time it really isnt
· Gears surprisingly good a dancing, specifically the fancy pants type dancing.
· So bc Kank is the kazekage's brother he's invited to a fancy do somewhere and he brings along Gear as his +1 bc hes a loser w/o a bf/gf. before the do he's just pointedly asking Gear like 'look do i need to teach you how to dance? because there will be dancing. fancy dancing. it will be Expected of You. do you want a dance tutor. are you sure? Are You SURE?'
· Gear is just waving him off 'Relax kitty, its cool' Kank is just mentally preparing apology speeches for Very Important Peoples' crushed toes
· the night comes along and Kank is making awkward small talk with some girl who roped him in when suddenly he's yanked away from the convo by Gear
· before he knows it they're on the dancefloor and SURPRISE gear is waaaay better at dancing than kank's stiff penguin shuffle
· gear takes great pleasure in dipping him really low at the end
· and they never let kank forget about it
· so i dont know if kankuro went to the ninja academy but lets assume he does
· *did
· so he and gear are in the same class
· but gear is of course always forgotten
· until one day kankuro notices them because IDK he runs into them and knocks them over or something
· so somehow they hang out that day and kank realises 'yeah this kid is a good one i could hang out with this dude like forever. mine now.'
· and the next day kank tries to find Gear except
· the fucker is so Unnoticable
· kank is just standing in the middle of the room scratching his head trying to figure out who the fuck he was talking to yesterday. gear of course doesnt have their sparkling personality yet and so is too shy/embaressed to go up to kank and remind him that 'hey this is what my face looks like'
· eventually they do hang out again though
· and the same thing happens
· kank gets fed up and brings in his face makeup and like draws reminders on gears face
· gear is fine with it, just wandering around all day with purple paint on their face
· except ppl keep making fun of them so kank wears the paint as well as like a solidarity thing
· of course gear finds his own look at the end of their academy days but kank carries on wearing the paint from then on(also gear used to be the kind of person who cried really easily and the paint showed it ALL up. they weren't too keen on walking around with tear tracks and smudges on their face, so mullet it is lol)
· sad idea
· gear is kankuro's first and best friend
· sure, kankuro has other friends, but no real Friends outside of his fam later on, bc when he was smaller every interaction with other kids was coloured by him being related to the Sand Demon
· kids didn't want to be friends with him bc they were scared for their lives (and kank threw himself into his puppet making for something to do bc puppets werent to emotionally fickle as kids)
· so he latched onto gear and they became integral parts of their lives without even realising it
· one day, gear leaves on a mission. they dont come back. they're declared MIA
· it varies between villages but generally its one-two months before a MIA ninja is declared KIA
· kank isnt worried about gear. gear is a tough dude, they'll come back.
· a week passes and kank isnt worried
· two weeks passes, and he's getting twitchy, spending more and more time hunched up in his studio, tinkering with his puppets
· three weeks passes without a sign from gear, and he's wrecked seven puppet prototypes in senseless death battles and he doesnt want to think about why he's become so snappy and easily frustrated
· (temari pops in on him every so often, forcing sandwiches and energy drinks on him even as he ignores her, whittling down a wooden ball joint with singular concentration)
· the fourth week draws to a close and kank is visiting the mission room every day, lingering inside the doorway, scaring returning genin teams with his impatient aura. he's making trips around the hospitals in case they had an unidentified body turned in (he knows gear by their scars even if their face just wont stick)
· saturday rolls around and kankuro is dragging himself down to the morgues, the crematoriums, clamping down on the threatening waves of despair - he asks by name, by description, by the rate of decay on any bodies returned by scavenging teams sent out across the sandy oceans
· there is no sign of gear, not a peep as the fourth week draws to a close, the deadline for Suna mia operatives
· he goes to the records office to bear witness as they change the status on gear's paperwork, and he feels hollow, like karasu as the red ink is drawn through the status box
· he returns to his house, silent. temari is there, waiting, with a worried furrow between her brows (he thinks he even saw gaara, who was so changed since the chuunin exams, peer at him through his bedroom doorway opened just a crack, that emerald stare assessing, before retreating again)
· he closes the door to his workshop with a calm firmness, blocking out temari's questions
· kankuro stares at his puppets, propped up on various stands and in the corners, half assembled carapaces that seemed to mock him with their glassy stares
· he snaps
· kankuro thinks this is what gaara must have felt like, pulled under by the whirlwind of emotions as he rampages, trashing models and ripping up drawings and smashing incomplete headless, armless bodies. it feels like there isn't enough destruction to match the hole gear's death has left in his own chest and he only stops when his fist pulls its punch instinctively, barely an inch to karasu's face, those lovingly sanded planes and features carved with years of practice and patience
· now karasu is left, his friend before, during, after Gear, and he never thought there would be an 'after Gear' - gear was only a chuunin, they didn't leave the village on any dangerous missions, not like the sand siblings
· kankuro doesnt leave his workshop for three days
· on the third he comes out, with karasu and gathers his supplies. he leaves for the funeral, to send off his friend
· when they had visited konoha, he's seen their Memorial to the dead - a great stone slab, with their names carved into it, the oldest names almost worn away with time and touch. suna doesnt have a memorial - the souls of their shinobi are memorialised at the Oasis
· the spirit oasis lies a few hours run outside of the city of suna, towards the east - once, or so the tales go, the oasis was part of a giant aquaduct that fed the blooming gardens of a wealthy empress, a long time before the establishment of the hidden villages. now, the oasis is a forest of crumbled stone and faceless statues, a giant pair of stone legs, broken at the knee marking the entrance. past there runs a river, mysterious in its crystal clarity - many suna scientists have tried to find the rivers origins and where it disappears to, but it remains one of the sand's greatest mysteries
· it became known as the spirit oasis by the first kazekage, who saw the electric blue lights bob and weave above the rushing waters at night - he took it as a sign, and saw, from the top of the tallest ruin, the great crater that he would build his village in.
· it is to the oasis that the suna shinobi go to remember their dead, and to let them go. it is where kankuro went. it is where he ended up kneeling beside the gently gurgling river, amongst the offerings of food and sake left behind from the visits of other shinobi. bells tinkle melodious in the soft winds, accompanied by the flutter of the shimenawa papers. he looked into the water, so clear he could see the mosaic tiles on the bottom of the aqua duct, and tried to imagine the corpse of his friend, buried somewhere under the grains of sand, lost, decaying until only his bones are left, to be collected one day many generations down, or simply to be forgotten until the gods reclaimed their peoples. kankuro imagines gear's spirit, their soul, instead, bobbing along in this river, laughing and dancing in the night, blue, bright, electric
· "I- Geez, I can't believe you're making me say this, you idiot. I guess, I miss you. It hardly feels like you're gone. It's been, huh, i don't know how long. For me, weeks, since you've died, but I guess it only really hit me some days ago. You- urgh, you really always need to have the last word, don't you, G-"
· Kankuro froze as the wind moaned. It was the wind, right? He knew the reports from the shinobi who had visited this place - odd sounds like groans and moans of the deceased spirits, and the embittered jounin who simply waved the tales off as the sounds the wind makes as it howls through the archways and pillars of the ruins.
· he strains his ear for any other sounds and- there, again. It doesn't sound like the wind, he decides. it sounds like a person, a flesh and blood person. he rises to his feet, slowly pulling a kunai silently out of his pouch. he's ready for an attack as he makes his way through the labyrinth of ruins, following the sounds of grunts and pants of pain. he turns a corner and finds his quarry.
· a fellow suna shinobi, judging by the tattered dull flak vest. brown hair matted to the head with crusted blood, the shinobi is slumped over a large piece of the ceiling that had fallen down centuries ago. as kankuro approaches, the shinobi gestured weakly with their own kunai, dripping blood onto the weeded tiles.
· "who..." the shinobi rasps out
· kankuro doesnt have to hear any more than that word - he recognises the voice, knows it because it's been cycling around his head with endless quips and puns and sarcastic riddles over the past few days. it was a voice he didnt think he'd ever hear again, and now that he has-
· he dropped his kunai with a metallic clutter and swiftly crouched in front of the shinobi, casually brushing away the brandished knife that couldn't have speared a paralysed mouse. slowly, his hands grasped the drooped chin and he straightened the slumped head, so he could look the shinobi in the eyes.
· they were brown and bruised around the edges. they stared back at kankuro for a moment, almost dead, before a spark of recognition lit up in them, and they crinkled up. the blood-tinted mouth stretched up too, showing a set of battered teeth. one hand come up to tug at kankuro's hair.
· "...hey kitty. was the service...good?"
· kankuro laughs and leans forwards, so his forhead touches the other.
· "you're- you're a fucking idiot. you asshole-"
· Gear just grins.
· ………..
· also i had an idea about gear's family
· since they're hoity toity ima imagine they're an Old Clan
· they were maybe friends of the first kazekage, and howsabout they built the water delivery system for the village
· sooo even though they're not really relevant anymore (especially with the rise of more modern technology etc) they're still trying to regain that 'friendship'/allience whatever they had with the first kazekage
· they consider themselves one of the village founders bc of their water systems but they're Not Really. basically the family is pretty stuck up and gear's parents are pretty peeved that Gear doesnt care more about his family history/doesnt conduct themselves with dignity
· Gears parents are snooty plumbers
· family name = 水瓶座/mizugameza
· aka Aquarius/water bearer
· not their original name but they rebranded themselves all fancy like after doing the village plumbing lol
· gear is actually kind of embarassed about their family's attitude which is well known (and sometimes mocked) around the village
· they prefer to just be known as Gear minus family name hence Kankuro didn't actually know which family Gear was a part of until quite a bit into their friendship
· Gear ur a beautiful child I'm glad u were made
· gear deserves all the happiness
· the only reason im glad they're not canon is so they're spared the boruto ending
·
#theres like a little angsty ficlet in the middle but mostly its gear being a Total Adorable Loser#naruto oc#gear mizugameza
