The Grumps have now crossed over from “this case is stupid” to legitimate rage when it comes to Turnabout Big Top. You can tell Arin’s rage side is coming out when he shouted, “WHO WROTE THIS?!” when it came to the joke about Max’s bust. And Dan is doing the thing where he’s sounding tired and defeated, which usually means he’s mad.

What’s funny is that they’re angry at the case for a different reason than most of the people who played it already. I noticed that most people hate Big Top for the underaged Regina worship, or the love triangle. But the Grumps hate Big Top because the jokes aren’t funny, the story isn’t good, and they hate all the characters. They didn’t even notice the Regina age issue until a few episodes into the story.

It’s to the point where they’re convinced a different writer was in charge of this episode, when the truth is that it was Takumi who wrote this. It’s just he was drunk as hell and Capcom gave him as much time for one case in the original game to write ALL of Justice for All.

I know there's a chart for the three og cures, but i am having a hard time comparing them to other characters, especially the villains. However since the Delicious Party Complete Book came out I'm sure that eventually a page of that kind will show up :D I think the intention for relative heights was Amane <Narcistoru<Secretoru<Godatz and Rosemary is around Godatz's height. Black Pepper is at Narcistoru's height with heels so I assume he's around Amane's height. This is all very approximated tho XD

Jake is used to using the detective's pride as the excuse for his sl-9 obsession. He avoids talking about his brother because it still hurts him. 2) Perhaps rationality won over emotions. A detective can't accuse people without evidence even in his head 3) It may be too painful to suspect his colleagues. Too many doubts. 4) Angel and Jake think that Gant is the main culprit. But they talk more about Lana (+Edgeworth) because they feel betrayed. It's more personal. 5) And less scary and dangerous..

6) They have no evidence against a person with power. They didn't know that this guy could kill his subordinate just because he was unconscious in the wrong place, but Gant is scary without that too. Ok, Shu Takumi just didn't want to spoil the murder mystery. I just feel sad that the game involved so little Jake in the investigation.

Speaking of questions.

i deleted an earlier post because i might have misremembered a bit of ace attorney investigations because i last played AAI1 a few years ago, but it struck me then and now how much more streamlined the testimonies in AAI are compared to earlier AA games. AA2 through 4 tried to get ~Fancy~ with it using a lot of weird testimony puzzles that i think detract from the core gameplay of finding contradictions.

i've mentioned before, a long while ago, that i categorize ace attorney gameplay into two main styles: offensive and defensive. (you can also say active or passive if you like) defensive gameplay in ace attorney is like, pressing. with rare exception, it carries no risk, but it might reveal a weakness, either adding a new statement or shedding light on an angle of attack. offense is manifested most clearly in presenting evidence: you have to make a specific statement, and risk penalty if you get it wrong.

in my opinion as someone who got into ace attorney for the mystery component, i think testimonies should bias towards offense. but there is a valid reason to focus on pressing. sometimes it's to set a mood, like forcing you to play defense to show the prosecutor's upper hand (i.e. the first day of aa2 trials.) sometimes it's to get the witness to reveal a statement that you can then contradict. or maybe pressing can itself become a form of offense, like the end of AA3-2.

what i tend to hate though is the kind of "press statement A, then press statement B, that reveals statement D but now you need to object to statement C. this was my least favorite part of the early Takumi games, and it's something that AAI mostly avoids. while you will have to press a statement to reveal another statement, edgeworth's internal monologue makes it clear what you're supposed to do, and it will (iirc, i played aai1 years ago and am replaying 2 right now) always end with you on the offense. there's a reason AAI calls it Rebuttal and not Cross-Examination.

and i think this is one of the key differences between takumi and yamazaki as directors. takumi post-aa1 gets too carried away with his ideas and forgets a human will have to play his games, either with bullshit testimony puzzles or by his later games being so passive that a lot of testimonies just become about pressing every statement until someone else on the stand gives an audio cue. it's not very compelling crimesolving gameplay either way, and it's the kind of thing that comes up when you're more interested in telling a good story than making a good game. meanwhile yamazaki (writer for 5, 6, and the aai games) has much more deft of an eye for how to make a good fun contradiction game, but struggles to make things iconic and memorable like takumi does every time.

reading the japanese and english takukamu S supports im just getting really emotional over the japanese version

when i reread the official english version, i realize they kinda water down how takumi really felt. that explains why i got REALLY emotional reading the japanese version. some of the changes were:

once again this ending!!!! while i do like the eng version the fact that it feels......less emotional than the japanese one. yes takumi is more assured of his feelings now that its reciprocated. i hate that the english version doesnt wanna highlight the 'i cant romantically love you coz i thought we were siblings' like cowards. apply the brocon/siscon themes in this game as its supposed to be. but yeah i still do appreciate takumi being more confident and kamui still being hesitant but they both embraced their feelings nicely

but the japanese one

oooohhh OOOHHH kamui straight up saying she loves takumi too but didnt act out coz she thought they were related. takumi preparing A RING eventho he was 70% sure she wont love him the same way. takumi saying he will protect her with his own life which brings the whole conquest story 10x more painful.

again takumi is being calm and somewhat professional. he knows its weird and tbfh i hate that the localization want to highlight how weird it is. we get it i know. but they make takumi level-headed which when i think back is kind of off for him but i appreciate the maturity of his behaviour here

In Defense Of Food Wars

"BUT THE FANSERVICE, WHAT ABOUT THE FANSERVICE?!?!"

Yes I'm aware of the that. I was so shocked by the first episode i almost didn't return to it.

HOWEVER....

Even after all that, i still enjoyed the show!!! While it's definitely not my fav, it still works as a show. The approach to showing the deliciousness of the food, i will admit, is a little weird and ridiculous.

Soma as a protag isn't as insufferable like a lot of protags nowadays. He surprisingly isn't a complete perv (the nasty food he makes is sus at times tho). He's very goal-oriented and is always working towards something. He can be dense at times but, to me, he felt pretty genuine in his efforts.

For the rest of the cast, they do a decent job serving their roles. Soma's dormmates don't overstay their welcome and fill out the story pretty well. The only stand out characters (imo) are definitely Takumi and Akira. Takumi is a little asshole and his pathetic demeanor at times is really funny since I'm a sucker for drama. His interactions and conflicts with Soma are one of the most entertaining bits of the show. akira is easily my favorite Food Wars character because he feels like a great addition to the show's formula. While everyone else Soma faces are portrayed cartoony or stupidly serious, Akira feels like an actual threat. The show definitely peaks when these two are facing each other at the autumn election tournament. Also, Akira just solos.

I'll be completely honest and say some of the hate is justified. During season 3, the show dips in quality. This is especially true with the writing. Stuff just gets out of hand and the show branches off into weird drama I wasn't interested in. I dropped off at season 4 even though there's more seasons. If I felt comfortable recommending someone this show, I would tell them to exclusively watch seasons 1-2. Season 3 isn't awful all the time so that one's ok too.

If you can deal with the foodgasms, i think food wars is a pretty good show (for a little bit at least).
