The Grumps have now crossed over from “this case is stupid” to legitimate rage when it comes to Turnabout Big Top. You can tell Arin’s rage side is coming out when he shouted, “WHO WROTE THIS?!” when it came to the joke about Max’s bust. And Dan is doing the thing where he’s sounding tired and defeated, which usually means he’s mad.

What’s funny is that they’re angry at the case for a different reason than most of the people who played it already. I noticed that most people hate Big Top for the underaged Regina worship, or the love triangle. But the Grumps hate Big Top because the jokes aren’t funny, the story isn’t good, and they hate all the characters. They didn’t even notice the Regina age issue until a few episodes into the story.

It’s to the point where they’re convinced a different writer was in charge of this episode, when the truth is that it was Takumi who wrote this. It’s just he was drunk as hell and Capcom gave him as much time for one case in the original game to write ALL of Justice for All.

Obviously, both Angel and Jake are aware that Gant is the main villain. He fired them, come on. It's pretty obvious that Lana is just a puppet. And yet, Marshal never mentioned either the murder or Gant. What conclusions can be drawn from this? 1) Perhaps Jake was silent, because otherwise he would have had to tell about Neil. Jake is used to using the detective's pride as the excuse for his sl-9 obsession. He avoids talking about his brother because it still hurts him. 2) Perhaps rationality won over emotions. A detective can't accuse people without evidence even in his head 3) It may be too painful to suspect his colleagues. Too many doubts. 4) Angel and Jake think that Gant is the main culprit. But they talk more about Lana (+Edgeworth) because they feel betrayed. It's more personal. 5) And less scary and dangerous..

6) They have no evidence against a person with power. They didn't know that this guy could kill his subordinate just because he was unconscious in the wrong place, but Gant is scary without that too. Ok, Shu Takumi just didn't want to spoil the murder mystery. I just feel sad that the game involved so little Jake in the investigation.

reading the japanese and english takukamu S supports im just getting really emotional over the japanese version

when i reread the official english version, i realize they kinda water down how takumi really felt. that explains why i got REALLY emotional reading the japanese version. some of the changes were:

while this doesnt seem much, the eng version makes takumi sound calmer while jpn version makes him sound nervous. it was a bit odd when takumi says request but then

In Defense Of Food Wars

"BUT THE FANSERVICE, WHAT ABOUT THE FANSERVICE?!?!"

Yes I'm aware of the that. I was so shocked by the first episode i almost didn't return to it.

HOWEVER....

Even after all that, i still enjoyed the show!!! While it's definitely not my fav, it still works as a show. The approach to showing the deliciousness of the food, i will admit, is a little weird and ridiculous.

Soma as a protag isn't as insufferable like a lot of protags nowadays. He surprisingly isn't a complete perv (the nasty food he makes is sus at times tho). He's very goal-oriented and is always working towards something. He can be dense at times but, to me, he felt pretty genuine in his efforts.

For the rest of the cast, they do a decent job serving their roles. Soma's dormmates don't overstay their welcome and fill out the story pretty well. The only stand out characters (imo) are definitely Takumi and Akira. Takumi is a little asshole and his pathetic demeanor at times is really funny since I'm a sucker for drama. His interactions and conflicts with Soma are one of the most entertaining bits of the show. akira is easily my favorite Food Wars character because he feels like a great addition to the show's formula. While everyone else Soma faces are portrayed cartoony or stupidly serious, Akira feels like an actual threat. The show definitely peaks when these two are facing each other at the autumn election tournament. Also, Akira just solos.

I'll be completely honest and say some of the hate is justified. During season 3, the show dips in quality. This is especially true with the writing. Stuff just gets out of hand and the show branches off into weird drama I wasn't interested in. I dropped off at season 4 even though there's more seasons. If I felt comfortable recommending someone this show, I would tell them to exclusively watch seasons 1-2. Season 3 isn't awful all the time so that one's ok too.

If you can deal with the foodgasms, i think food wars is a pretty good show (for a little bit at least).

It's been so long since I've played the original trilogy that I honestly couldn't tell you which of the three is my favorite, but at this point I'm starting to think that it might honestly be the first one, if only because the first one doesn't have a single case that makes me want to concuss myself. (Which isn't to say that T&T does, but just that I really don't remember T&T well enough to say for sure.)

The four original cases in the first Ace Attorney game are all excellent, both in terms of story / character content, but also in terms of gameplay. Although I hadn't played in so many years, I didn't pick a wrong answer even once in the first four cases, because the puzzles were laid out so masterfully that the answer became clear with only a minute or two of thinking. I want to note that this is different from hand-holding; it's not that the game told you what the answer was, but that logic allowed for puzzling out when it was time to show this or that evidence. You also didn't have to Press on every single line of testimony usually, because pressing on just the ones that it was intuitive to press on was usually enough.

Now, that's for the first four cases. The same can't really be said for "Rise From the Ashes," but that's because RftA was written after the main trilogy was already completed, and thus suffered the same issues that JFA (and I'm assuming T&T) had: extremely finicky cases which were incredibly picky about when and where they wanted you to show this or that evidence, or requiring you to backtrack to rooms because it refused to make a crucial piece of evidence appear during an investigation sequence unless you had talked to some completely unrelated character already beforehand.

This might sound like griping because I am just not good at these games, but I don't think that's the case. Again, the first four cases in the original game didn't have this problem, at least in my most recent experience. Both the trial sections and the investigation sections made sense with very little nitpicky "this must absolutely be done in This Particular Sequence" bits. It's just RftA, and so far each case in JFA, that seems to have this issue. This could be because Takumi or Capcom wanted to up the difficulty in the later games, or at least increase the length of the cases (both RftA and the cases in JFA so far have significantly more evidence than the first four cases in the original game), but either way, it's noticeable.

Having said that though, although RftA had numerous parts where I had to look up a walkthrough because I didn't interact with the exact pixel of the evidence room at the exact right moment in the investigation and thus couldn't get the evidence I knew was right there, I still forgive it because I love the story and the characters. Although there is legitimate critique to be made about it (most notably how they retconned Edgeworth having ever forged evidence because of his popularity by that point in the series timeline), I still enjoy the story and the characters so much that it doesn't matter as much to me. Plus, tbh, it explains even more why Edgeworth would make the drastic choice he made between games, even if you don't take the retcon into account. The man was really going through it for those few months. (Though having said that, Phoenix being like "all prosecutors are evil scumbags" in light of him knowing Lana is still . . . lmao. You really can tell that RftA was made post the original trilogy.)

So at least, thus far into my replay of the OG trilogy, I rank the first game (with all five cases present) as above JFA, since while JFA has what is quite possibly my favorite case in the entire series (Farewell My Turnabout), it also has Turnabout Big Top, which just . . . well, you know. I feel like TBT is probably the most universally hated case in the fandom, lol.

But we'll see how I feel when I get to T&T, since that's the game from the OG trilogy I remember the least. I do know that I loved playing as Mia and I also love Dahlia as a villain, and getting to play as Edgeworth vs. Franziska was also delightful. So it definitely has aspects I am looking forward to. Nana ep-34 (This is a rant, so there will be some grammar errors)

I really hate Takumi, I mean I really hate him.

Like this dude only use Nana K for his ways, and when he find out she's pregnant he locks her the bathroom to call her current boyfriend about the baby.

Like the dude is such a douche, not even giving Nana K time to recollect herself and her banging on the door and telling him to stop.

When he called Nobuo and tells him about the baby, Nobuo was stun in shock (justified) not knowing what to do or say. Then Nana O had to step in because you know she doesn't play that and even tried to figure out a way for the possibility of Nobuo being the father. Since having Takumi as your baby daddy is the worst thing that can ever happen to a person. (Agreed)

Unfortunately, Nobuo is young and doesn't know how to respond in this situation unlike Takumi who is a manipulative old hag (I know he's like 23 but he's still weird for existing)

So when Nobuo was walking to Nana's apartment, Takumi lay Nana K down on her bed and told her how he responded to his older sister being pregnant.

By beating the shit out of the Baby Daddy. He even admitted people called him possessive over that (which is true).

He just admitted a RED FLAG out loud to poor Nana K who couldn't barely respond to the situation due to her being shock with Takumi's surprised appearance, forcefully going in her home, locking her in the bathroom, and telling Nobuo and Nana O about the baby without her permission.

Then this man had the audacity to be "Oh wait you're the same age when my sister got pregnant but you're a mess, have sex with any guy whenever you get lonely, and have no type of career what's so ever! But like you're my girl and you're pregnant with my kid so I'll be the father, Kay!"

Bro really is the worst piece of shit, I have ever seen. He makes having Sukuna as a husband seem like a better option.

Unfortunately when Nobuo came over to see Nana K, he doesn't know how to respond to the situation since in his mind it seems like Nana K didn't broke up with Takumi and was dating 2 guys at the same time.

Like when he said "Just said any excuse or lie, I'll believe it" and Nana K keeps on saying sorry, I was slamming my table.

They were so good for each other and neither of them deserve this!!

Were they going to last? I don't know but I know that Nobuo will be a better boyfriend then what Takumi will ever be.

Like I know this was a Drama but I still wasn't prepared for this...

By the time I'm posting this, I'll most likely have watched more episodes of Nana, and hopefully the situation will get better.

Reverse unpopular opinion on Fates? (Or if it's too general, just Corrin!)

I’m a menace to this fanbase at this point, so I’ll do both!

For Fates in general, I… just… so much. So much. The drama, the world, the tiny details, the way they weave in little bits of character intrigue… it’s wonderful! I love it! I’m going to actually have to stop myself from going on a rant about every individual thing, because there’s so much I can talk about, and it would probably be filled with a lot of trivia. Still, I’ll try to hit as much as I can without going too far.

I believe I’ve mentioned it before, but I am absolutely in love with the nature of the choice made in Fates. There’s always been some kind of discourse on which side one should choose, but the fact of the matter to me is that they both make reasonable sense. I know I’d be swayed to join the Hoshidans based on my empathy for their situation and their clear affection for “me”. At the same time, though, I might join the Nohrians because I’ve been where they were with people like Garon before — and I might want to help them create that change from the inside the best way I know how, and of course I’d want to be with the people I love. They’re both such good choices, but that’s what makes them difficult! That’s why we even bicker about what’s best in the first place!

And don’t get me started on the drama the choice creates. I’m sure I’ve made the joke before, but I’m the kind of person who hates drama in real life, but absolutely loves it in my fiction. Lucky for me, Fates is full of that good fictional drama. Even the things that don’t seem like they could be much to toy with turn out to be pretty big things. Take the fractured relationship between the Hoshidan siblings, for example. It doesn’t seem like it might be that much beyond some character intrigue at first (which I personally eat up anyway), but it ends up being a major catalyst in Conquest as well as playing a big role in Birthright. Most of the decisions taken within Fates to create drama are used to tell you a lot about its characters — you learn the depths of Flora’s self-hatred through her demise, about Hinoka’s steadfastness when fighting against her own siblings, about Xander’s quiet desperation for Garon’s return to normalcy… it kills me that so many of these things were tampered with by the localization team because they’re just so good! There is absolutely no fear of making you feel bad for what you’re doing in the game, and I would argue that there’s often times where they’re more subtly telling you that even your favourites probably aren’t the great people you might think they are. And I think that’s something that really captures the essence of what it’s like to be at war, but also to be the person caught between. It’s knocked for not being morally grey, but of the games I’ve played, I’ve found that it’s probably one of the ones that’s more willing to confront characters acting poorly.

Speaking of that, one of the things I really, really love is that they tell you information about the world through a lot of tiny details. They don’t just vomit a bunch of information on you; they work to weave it into the little things. You don’t outright hear that Silas tends to get too absorbed in gossip as a consequence of being the guy everyone likes, but after a few support conversations, you start to notice it. You might not recognize that Felicia is actually really emotionally intelligent, but after a few supports, you realize that she’s prone to the words “don’t you lie to me” and can almost always figure out when people are putting up a front. Even with the localization’s attempts at scrubbing Hoshido of its sexism, it actually turns out that it cannot be erased — because it always shines through, whether it’s Reina telling her life story or Hinata remarking on the abnormality of the female samurai or Takumi’s fixation on physical strength or Ryoma’s overall self-expression being aloof at best and a burning rage at worst. They build all of these little things into the text, and I love just picking them out and examining them like I’m mining for gemstones.

The best part about some of these tiny details, too, is that they’re not even just story-related. They bury them in the mechanics, as well. Like have you ever noticed that more of the Nohrian royal siblings are pre-promotes than the Hoshidan ones because they’re supposed to be more well-versed in war? Or how Charlotte’s heart seal makes her class into a troubadour, suggesting that she really does have a heart of gold beneath her rough exterior? Even the way money is used in the game, with the Hoshidans positively rolling in it and the Nohrians having to manage a tight budget, is a show of care for these small details. They don’t shy away at all from implementing the details of character and world building into the way they actually structure the game, which I think is really interesting!

I could probably go on forever if you let me, but these are just some of my favourite things that the game comes out with. Fates really speaks to me because even if it’s not the perfect FE game, I can still feel the love that those who worked on it put into it. It’s absolutely not without its merits, and I love it to pieces for what it is.

As for Corrin, well, I’m gonna offer a particularly hot take in opening my gush about Corrin: for some people, it seems as if the reason why they don’t like Corrin is simply because they are not Ike. For me, though, that’s precisely why I like Corrin. While there’s nothing wrong with protagonists like Ike, I find they’re much more common due to their obvious popularity, so seeing someone who’s more about being heroic in a soft and gentle way has always interested me. In particular, I think what stands out about Corrin’s nature is the way that it is so integrated into the choices they have to make. Their decision is already so difficult, but to put so much energy into caring for others, avoiding hurt, and just generally wanting the world to be a better place — while having seemingly no choice that will allow you to do just that — it really plays into the struggle of the situation. Corrin’s gentle-hearted nature is what gives them power as a protagonist, because they’re not willing to just throw in the towel and do only what makes them happiest. They still want to go out of their way to try and help everybody, even if it’s not good for them, even if it causes them a whole lot of pain in the end. Their biggest concern is still how they can come out with the best outcome for the scenario.

And honestly, I think something is added by the fact that Corrin is sometimes obviously wildly out of their depth! Sometimes they make decisions that are a little ridiculous, or may not be the most clever choice at the time, because it adds a layer of humanity and jives well with their backstory. A kid raised in a tower is not going to have instant leadership qualities. While Corrin does have things like caring and charisma going for them, they’re more than able to cause trouble if they don’t think about how their actions as a leader will affect others. They’re not so thoughtless as to willingly fling soldiers into danger, but they stick tightly to their own moral code. I think that in terms of relatability, going for this kid who’s out of their depth but still trying their best to make a better future is a great thing for a protagonist. The fact of the matter is, that’s what a lot of us would be in Corrin’s situation, so as an Avatar character it does make sense to have them be this way. I think Corrin’s gentleness and humanity are overly dismissed as unhelpful and boring, but the fact of the matter is, it’s much more genuine than a lot of the other stuff out there. There’s no attempt to make the ultimate cool guy that everyone will love — there’s an attempt to make someone who’s more of a person.

Overall, both Fates itself and Corrin deserve more credit for being what they are. Sometimes we become some absorbed by all of the things we think are bad that we can’t even see all of the amazing stuff in front of us, and I think that with a little more time and attention, more people might recognize that there are actually some pretty great things in Fates that deserve their respect. As someone who loves this game deeply, I’m glad that there are people out there who are willing to give it a chance... or maybe even more than one!
