they were a couple drinks in and her companion's native tongue was already starting to slip out of him. she expected as much, considering it was his first language after all, but she figured it'd take more than a couple drinks in. she was luckier than most, in a sense, that she could understand what he was saying and start to piece together what he was saying. whether or not he noticed what he was doing, and Paine liked to think that he did, it was rather amusing to say the least. on the odd occasion, she had responded in kind, replying only in Al Bhed.

she teased him. he was the only one out of the three former crimson squad members that she felt like she could tease like this. it sometimes worked with Nooj, depending on his mood, and it always seemed to fluster or go over Baralai's head. not that she ever expected anything other than light teasing back from the blonde. things had never gone past light teasing between the two.

which meant she was only slightly surprised when Gippal started teasing back, but instead of teasing, it was more like flirting and rather seductively in Al Bhed. she almost started laughing. perhaps the alcohol had lowered her defenses a lot more than she originally intended. part of her wanted to play along, for the fun of it. it felt like months had passed since she had done anything for the fun of it. after his last remark, she finally let out a snort. it was a good thing they were sitting so close together and not a lot of the current crowd could understand Al Bhed. that's what Paine hoped anyway. if they had, perhaps she would've thought twice.

E druikrd oui fana y syh uv yldeuh, hud y syh uv syho funtc." she sidled up to him as she spoke, closing the remaining distance between them. her voice husky as it dropped in volume. red eyes scoped out the remaining green one. an eyebrow rose as she next spoke, a sly smile creeping onto her lips. "Un syopa E cruimt ramb keja dryd pnyeh uv ouinc y nacd yht dyga dra mayt socamv."

So I decided to make a little comic of how I think their "first encounter" might have looked like from Eclipse's perspective.

I can't help but think about how alien and scary we most look to him (especially if there is a history of fasco hunting polar sirens in the past). With all that gear we look like emotionless beings, just observing and uncaring of this ice world. But then when y/n shows up and probably exudes this joy and wonder for his world + shows respect for the creatures and the environment??? Mmh yeah, I can see Eclipse falling for y/n, especially considering how alone he might be...

hmm... in a "Charlie gets wings" scenario, which sparks more joy...

the idea of Charlie very awkwardly unfolding a pair of gold angel wings that almost perfectly match Adam's (the ones her mom would have had if Lilith hadn't gone all demon) except they have only one stripe (like Vaggie's) and Vaggie is gleefully assuring her gf that she wears them SO MUCH BETTER than Adam ever did

OR, Charlie deliberately giving herself a pair of dragon-like wings, to match with Razzle (and the fallen Dazzle), setting herself completely apart from angelic dad bc she's hellborn and proud of it

XD charlie getting the gold ones and being all "nooo.... nnnoooooooo i don't want those... icky, icky associations... let's just trade them out ok???"

and THEN making herself the demon wings like aaahhhh yessss MUCH better o^w^o

Yes! I think he would know what wishcraft smells like; especially since they've had the most experience with wishcraft before the whole 'King's Curse' business started. Of course Bonnie is the one with the best sense of smell, and if Siffrin is used to the sickly sweet smell then it might take a while to realize "wait. this isn't the King's curse I'm smelling. It's coming from something ELSE.........." They would react. not happily. I think.

Menelaus rambles a lot about not only Helen, but also Hermione. About how she used to say Olive like "Olifs". How she lost her first tooth running too fast and running into a low branch while out with Helen. How he'd sometimes wake up to Hermione leaning over him and poking his face to say, "Dad, can we go see the horses?" even though it was barely daylight. How she was much nicer waking Helen and how he thinks Hermione did that on purpose because she found "dad's face funny". How her favorite color was every color.

And Odysseus listens.

And he thinks about how his son only had a few teeth coming in when he left, teething on everything. How he could only say one syllable with his babbles. How his son needed balance to stand but Odysseus was so proud that Telemachus was very good at rolling over. How his son loved pulling at his and Penelope's hair.

How his son would be talking, walking, maybe even lost his first tooth by now. And he doesn't even know if he'll ever know his son's favorite color.
