4R’s: Encantadia (Jan. 26, 2017 episode review)

Episode 139

Recap:

Death of Hara

Amihan was ready to face her death.

All of a sudden, Alena appeared and aided her in battle. Using the lupig and the water gem, Alena fought the Hathors and Hadezars. Amihan didn’t want to get Alena involved and urged her to leave immediately, but Alena insisted on staying and took Amihan away. Alena found Danaya and Hitano, a puzzled Danaya asked what was going on. Alena apologized to Amihan and knocked her unconscious, Alena revealed that she knew what Amihan has been planning, she cannot allow Amihan to die and told her youngest sister that it is her who is much worthy to make the sacrifice and left, Danaya failed to stop her. The youngest sang’gre healed Amihan’s wounds and when the queen finally regained consciousness, she immediately followed Alena. Danaya knew her sisters must be stopped.

Upon learning from Pirena about Amihan and Alena’s plans, Ybrahim persuaded Pirena to teleport them back to Sapiro, but Pirena refused, saying that her sisters’ decisions were final, and there was nothing they can do to stop them. Ybrahim was disappointed at Pirena for she haven’t changed, she’s still the same selfish Pirena they know. Ybrahim went to Lira and told her that they have to go back to Sapiro “if Lira still wants to see her mother and Ashti Alena alive,” though Lira was quite puzzled, she and Ybrahim whisked their way back to the kingdom.

Alena went back to the throne room and faced Hagorn and his troop once again, and though Alena was clearly powerful, the Hadezars made it difficult for her to defeat Hagorn’s forces and ended up getting injured badly. Amihan appeared shortly after and defended Alena after regaining consciousness thanks to Danaya’s earth gem, Alena witnessed how Amihan was taken down and was terrified at the sight of her sister slowly succumbing to her death. In a last attempt to protect Amihan, Alena created a barrier using the water gem and shielded the both of them, now weak and dying, Amihan urged Alena to leave. The downside of being the sister’s queen is that she too is also bound to follow orders, Alena had no choice but to leave the throne room.

Lira and Ybrahim found Danaya and Hitano who were also searching for Amihan and Alena, Lira asked once again what was going on but it wasn’t the time for explanations and started searching. Danaya and company found Alena who was badly injured, the sang’gre revealed that Amihan was at the throne room fighting Hagorn by herself. Lira and Ybrahim wasted no time and immediately left with Hitano. Danaya tended to Alena’s wounds first and when the latter regained strength, she and Danaya decided to go back to the throne room as well.

Now it was only Amihan left, Hagorn was getting impatient at how the sang’gres seem to be fooling him. Hagorn gave Amihan one last chance to spare her life—surrender everything, something which Amihan swore to never do. Hagorn finally used the spirit gem and ended Amihan’s life, the queen has fallen. Just as Danaya and Alena were about to follow the prince and his diwani daughter, the air gem appeared before the sisters, a gentle wind caressed them and heard Amihan’s voice telling them they love them. Words Amihan spoke before she parted ways with Danaya. The sisters knew Amihan has died, back in the camp, Pirena also heard Amihan telling her she loves her, Pirena knew something happened to Amihan.

By the time Lira and Ybrahim came, it was already too late. Amihan’s body lay lifeless on the throne room of Sapiro. Lira and Ybrahim immediately ran towards the queen and tried to wake her up, but Hagorn revealed that Amihan is already dead. Danaya and Alena appeared and were heartbroken at the sight of their dead sister. Ybrahim was enraged, but Danaya and Alena stopped him for it was useless to fight Hagorn at this point. Hagorn told them to take Amihan’s body and promised to give them time to mourn for their queen.

Aquil went to Hathoria and fought the Hathorian guards leaving one Hathor for him to interrogate about the Hadezars, and how Hagorn was able to free the ivtres from Balaak, the Hathor revealed that it was through the help of their gods Arde and Ether which is why Hagorn succeeded to free the ivtres. Hagorn and his troop came but didn’t mind him killing his men (also because of Amarro’s plea to spare him) and told him instead to go back to his allies for the queen is already dead. Amarro attempted to win Aquil on their side, but hearing the news only made Aquil more determined to fight for the diwatas.

Lira was the most devastated at the death of the Lirean queen, the young sang’gre begged her Ashti Danaya to heal her mother but there is no cure for death. It was also then that Lira found out that both Alena and Danaya knew what Amihan was planning after Alena resented that it was Amihan who died instead of her. Lira was angry at her Ashtis for keeping this from her and refused to listen to Danaya and Alena’s explanations, that Amihan wanted this to happen, and the sisters has to follow the queen’s orders, it was painful, but it was their only chance to win against Hathoria. Still, it wasn’t enough for Lira to feel better, because no matter how much they try to console her, it will never bring back the life of her mother. Mira appeared and was also devastated at the sight of the dead queen and regretted not being able to spend more time with her. Pirena also appeared and found out that Amihan is dead. Unfortunately, Pirena also knew what Amihan has been planning which only made Lira’s pain worse, even Ybrahim couldn’t bring himself to comfort his daughter for he too was in great pain.

Meanwhile, in the lair of the lambanas, the winged creatures noticed that the tree lit up once again, it was a sign that another diwata has died. The leader of the lamabanas ordered Muyak and a group of pixies to fetch the dead body of whoever died. The lambanas came along with Muyak and was shocked to find out that it was the queen whom they will be taking to Devas.

Raves:

💎 The saddest episode ever! So much angst among the characters right now especially for Ybrahim and Lira’s parts. But everyone did so well tonight! Congrats Enca team! Once again, you have exceeded my expectations! Your hard work, dedication and team work is what makes this show a great success, well done team! Well done!

💙 ‘Till the very end, Amihan has proven that she is and will always be the greatest leader Encantadia has ever had, and I just remembered Cassiopeia’s prophecy, that Amihan will be one of the brave leaders who will make Hathoria crumble into ashes, so that means Amihan isn’t leaving just yet. Either she will be given more time by Emre to fulfill her destiny or she will be granted a second life just like the original. As for Kylie, I have no idea how she managed to slay those fight scenes even if she’s pregnant but damn girl you da queen! The baby sure will be kicking some ass if he or she comes out. This may seem out of topic but I watched Kylie’s interview and I saw how happy she was, it makes me feel happy for her as well. Although I am really looking forward for more KyRu projects after Enca, I guess we’ll just have to wait.

💚 Yaaaas Gabbi! That staff does look like a spear and I had goosebumps watching Gabbi work Adhara’s staff, there’s no other weapon suitable for Alena than a spear. Also, seeing Adhara’s Lupig and Alena’s water gem’s powers combined was THE BOMB! It was dangerously breathtaking, Alena wielding both tools is indeed rave-worthy, both powers synced so beautifully and I have to commend the Enca staff for this great special effect.

💜💪 Hugs for father and daughter, although I would have liked it if Mikee showed some really intense emotions—grief and anger combined while she attempts to avenge her mother and fight Hagorn. That would have been epic for Lira’s character. I still want to see a more serious side of Lira, like “dark” Lira, and then she will be more determined to show to everyone that she is worthy to be Lireo’s crown princess, and become a leader just like Amihan. It really sucks for her right now because she lost her mother twice, the first being Amanda, her foster mom. I am sad that Amihan died, but I am also excited for Lira 2.0! I don’t know but I think Amihan’s death will contribute a lot to Lira’s character development.

Rant: 🙄 I was expecting Piry to appear out of nowhere and fight Hagorn! My Emre! Kaloka bes, sobrang duwag and selfish! Well, as the saying goes, you can’t change someone overnight.

Episode 134

Recap:

A hopeless battle

Amihan knew fighting Hagorn’s troop will lead them to their deaths—each and every diwatas, and the only option left is a peace talk between her and Hagorn. But even if she knew the talk would be pointless, it was a safer move to keep everyone alive. The queen was also completely aware of the possibility that she won’t be able to make it back alive, thus she grabbed the opportunity to tell her daughters, Lira and Mira how happy she was to be their mother. Mira sobbed as she expressed how grateful she was to have Amihan as an adoptive mother, a tearful Lira couldn’t afford to lose the queen and wanted to go with Amihan. But Hara was firm on her orders, the diwanis should stay behind, her sisters and Mashna Muros as well despite Alena’s offer to go with her. So that Amihan’s sisters can come up with a plan in case something happens to her. Aquil appeared, wearing his armor once again and volunteered to go with Amihan instead, he wanted to prove himself by being a servant of Lireo even for the last time. Amihan was honored to be with her former general, she bid goodbye to her loved ones and left with Aquil as her only company. Lira and Mira were heartbroken and were comforted by Alena and Danaya.

Muros and the remaining sang’gres immediately planned an escape route to lead the other diwatas to safety. Lira and Mira were dismayed that none of them seem to think about following Amihan and help her. Even though Alena and Danaya are Amihan’s sisters, they were also bound to follow Amihan’s order as their queen, a Lirean law they could not break. Also, they have to evacuate the remaining diwatas as soon as they can before the Hathors attack and surround the palace—that was their top priority. Muros told the younger sang’gres to leave the palace as well, being young and stubborn, the princesses refused to follow orders even from their Ashti Danaya and went ivictus together. Pirena who apparently has been sneaking finally showed up and urged her sisters to follow the diwanis, Danaya initially refused at first but decided to go with her older sisters for the sake of finding her nieces.

Meanwhile, Asval persuaded Hagorn to attack Lireo immediately. Hagorn knew Amihan will do anything to keep her brethren safe and will come to him and try to talk him through this war once again. He was right, Amihan and Aquil appeared. The queen swallowed her pride and was ready to make amends with the Hathorian king, she asked what he wanted—things which Hagorn knew she knows: first, is to bring his infant daughter (Deshna) back, second is for her and Danaya to surrender their gems, and lastly, dominion over Encantadia. This terrified Amihan and knew she couldn’t meet Hagorn’s conditions, but if they choose to fight, it would mean death of every diwata in Encantadia. Amihan tried to buy them time by telling Hagorn that she will consult the council first, but Hagorn won’t fall for the same trap once again and demanded Amihan to make the decision now. She is the queen after all and she is the one who makes decisions, not the council. Hagorn vowed that he will spare the life of every diwata once Amihan surrenders. Amihan insisted to consult her council first but Hagorn was adamant, thus Amihan decided to sacrifice herself instead, something she was ready to do. When Hagorn was about to plunge his blade, Prince Ybrahim and Wantuk came and distracted Hagorn, he pointed his blade at Hagorn and warned him not to hurt his beloved queen. But Hagorn just laughed at him and addressed him as the queen’s savior in a sarcastic kind of manner and summoned the spirit gem. Amihan summoned her air gem, Hagorn warned her about how powerful he was compared to her, Amihan tricked him once again and escaped along with Ybrahim, Wantuk and Aquil. An angry Hagorn commanded his troop to finally attack their rival kingdom.

Ether’s bargain

Cassiopeia went to Ether and confronted her once again, but instead of fighting the goddess bribed Cassiopeia. Ether offered to spare the lives of her brethren in exchange of them worshipping her instead of Emre. Ether called Emre “useless” and even reminded Cassiopeia how the god cursed her for splitting the mother gem several years ago during Hara Mine-a’s reign. But instead of listening, Cassiopeia opted to leave the goddess.

Lira and Mira were puzzled as to why they were whisked somewhere else. Not long after, the older sang’gres appeared who apparently stopped them from following Amihan. But it was evident at how the diwanis wanted to help Amihan out. Pirena offered to go with them instead, something which Mira refused to do, Lira though gave her trust to her mischievous aunt once again but it turned out that it was just Pirena’s trick, she knocked Mira unconscious and took her away, she stood firm on her decision not to get involved with the war. Alena and Danaya didn’t stop her for they knew they will take Mira to Sapiro which is a much safer place. Alena and Danaya brought Lira back to Lireo. They took Lira to her room and ordered Imaw and the soldiers to guard the young sang’gre well, and if she tries to escape, Danaya gave them her permission to tie her up. Mira was brought to Sapiro where Pirena ordered Gurna to chain her, Pirena decided to go back to Lireo to see what her sisters were planning to do next.

The truth about Mine-a

Amihan and company went back to Lireo where Alena and Danaya have been waiting. The peace talk was a fail, thus leaving them with no other choice but to fight to the death, Lila Sari was also present, and chose to stay behind despite the sang’gres’ offer to flee the palace as well, Lila Sari too has powers, thus she chose to fight alongside the diwatas. Muros has already given his word to his subordinates to help the other diwatas escape. The Mashna told Lira to go as well but Lira secretly asked Imaw to help her escape and go to Mira in Sapiro, thankfully, Imaw agreed to help her and fled the palace together. Muros failed to get a hold of the crown princess, Aquil volunteered to help facilitate their escape plan while Muros went back to the throne room to inform the queen that her daughter was once again missing. Ybrahim grumbled at his daughter’s stubbornness, but there was a much bigger problem they have to face other than Lira, and that is Hagorn and the combined forces of the Hathors and Hadezars who are now advancing to Lireo. Amihan warned everyone to brace themselves, for this was a battle they have never fought before.

Mira woke up only to find herself chained in a room in Sapiro, with Gurna guarding her. Pirena reappeared to check on her daughter, and ordered Gurna to return to Hagorn and convince him to accept Pirena once again to his side—a desperate move to keep her and Mira alive. Mira once against expressed her anger towards Pirena and was dismayed at how selfish she was. Lira and Imaw appeared, the two tried to talk to Pirena but the latter seemed impossible to convince and ended up hurting Imaw. Lira was disappointed at Pirena for hurting even someone like “grandpa Imaw,” the chief of the Adamyans finally revealed his recent discovery in a last attempt to open Pirena’s eyes to the truth. Using his powerful balintataw, he showed Pirena her late mother Mine-a in her final days. Mine-a wrote a letter to Pirena and gave it to Ades and told her to give it to her eldest if anything happens to her. The cane also showed how Gurna tricked Ades to give the letter to her and the former keeping it instead of handing it over to Pirena. It was an answer Pirena has been looking for, and this answer can be found in Gurna.

Raves:

💙 Amihan, you made me cry tonight! It was so hard watching her being torn between keeping everyone alive and surrendering the kingdom to the enemies. For the first time, she broke down before the council. It just shows that being a leader is never easy, because you always have to think of your people’s welfare as a whole. It was indeed a very difficult decision to make, and the way she low key bid goodbye to her daughters really got me—a great leader and a loving and protective mother, my gosh! I can give many, many reasons why Amihan is my favorite sang’gre since 2005. Hands down to Kylie for owning the spotlight, I doubted her at first but, now, I am truly convinced that Kylie is the perfect Amihan and the rightful actress to succeed Iza Calzado.

💜💗 Mikee and Kate sure knows how to make me laugh and cry real quick. Cousins by blood, sisters at heart, and loving daughters to Amihan. I already see Kate dominating the primetime, showing off her great skills when it comes to heavy dramas and Mikee will definitely continue to be everyone’s happy pill, reigning the rom-coms and the likes.

❤ Yaaaas! Finally Piry! I just realized that this scene was paying homage to Pirena 2005’s discovery of the truth using Imaw’s cane, and mga bes, the theory of Pirena’s death is most likely to happen, but on top of that I would like to know the whole story of why Gurna brainwashed Pirena and kept her distant from Mine-a and her sisters. It was kind of revealed in the original and Etheria but there was still a huge loophole in Gurna’s story. It seems unconvincing to me to deceive Pirena just because Gurna is bitter towards the diwatas, and I felt like there is a much deeper reason why and I hope they would come up with a much better subplot for Gurna’s story.
