such a fun play on the dazai & chuuya dynamic. currently at 4/5 chapters and it's really great. probably a bit more serious/darker than most of the recs on this list (from what i remember) but its totally worth the read

the chaos of nakajima atsushi's peaceful life by utopio_sphere

au where atsushi turns down the ada job offer and works at the cafe below. he gets a second job that turns out to be at a bar the port mafia frequents

another au where atsushi doesn't join the ada (which i adore) and its so good. currently at 5 works. this series is so much fun and i love the way the plot is altered but also similar to canon as well as the character dynamics.

au where atsushi runs away and lives as a tiger in the forest until being found by dazai at the start of the series.

im such a sucker for feral!atsushi and its done SO well here. im genuinely so in love with the character takes in this series and how well everyone is written from Atsushi to Dazai to Kouyou to Chuuya. the dazai takes in the second fic are some of my favorite ever. The dynamics are wonderful and each story is great. currently at 3 fics in the series

unfortunately, i don’t read jjk fics… like, at all. i have two main reasons why:

i write them, sure, but i have this intense fear of reading jjk/reader fics (hypocritical, i know, but idc 🌝) simply ‘cause of the fact that i have these characters a certain way in my mind: VERY CANONICALLY-CENTRED.

when reading, i’d enjoy that with only a TOUCH of fanon, seeing as it’s usually romantic, reader-insert, love interest fics, and we’ve only ever actually seen two couples in jjk, and not even in depth — miwa and mechamaru + toji and mamaguro — therefore we can’t exactly say for certain what other characters would be like in a relationship and stuff: what we picture and write here is fanon.

but i did try a couple times. it just wasn’t for me, ig.

secondly, literally every gojo/reader story ever (i say gojo specifically cuz i’m only interested in reading about him and no one else 😭) has smut in it.

unpopular take, but i dislike smut. very much.

so essentially, i’m useless in this department.

p.s. that’s not to say that you yourself can’t read other fics and enjoy them the way they are. that’s great for you, and lovely for the author, but my personal opinion is that i just can’t, and that’s alr. i’ll silently move on and write my own :)

Hii! What do you think of Aegon III and Viserys II? Sometimes I feel that they are not highly valued in team black, and I don't really understand why, it is very difficult to find content about them that doesn't end up revolving around their half-brothers and sisters 🥲 Do you think Jacaerys would have been a better king than them? I honestly have my doubts, since with the situation that Aegon and Viserys found themselves in, it was difficult to do better and also their right to the throne could not be discussed. I think that sometimes there is very little empathy with what they had to live through.

i have conflicted feelings about it tbh.

On the one hand, I completely get what you mean, Aegon iii & Viserys ii are currently invisible when people discuss tb family so the sense of them being undervalued lingers. It also doesn't help that they're both seen as 'threats' even when people discuss about AUs scenarios (like what if jacaerys had survived, or what if Luke or joff were the sole survivors of the Velaryon trio etc) Viserys is sent off somewhere to marry or dies and Aegon conveniently always joins the kingsguard 💀

And don't get me wrong, I personally don't think the tb kids would ever turn against one another because they grew up in a loving environment and we see the loyalty they have to one another in f&b. They wouldn't try to usurper each other - they're not the greens.

The fandom seem to think otherwise however and that's because there's the question; Had Jacaerys survived would he be accepted as a king? Would Daemon have preferred a truborn son (Aegon) carrying his blood to the throne rather than a firstborn daughter (Baela) who would be only queen consort? Would he be satisfied with Jace as a King and husband to Baela? Did he love the Velaryon boys enough to never plot against them?

It all depends how each person views these characters. I've seen people giving variety of answers.

To your question, I think Jacaerys does have the potential to be a good king. He managed to gain allies (though I firmly believe if grrm didn't have a vendetta against targ women rhaenyra could have done this as well), the negotiation skills are there, he inspired loyalty, I suppose the plan with dragonseeds brings up the argument whether he's a good strategic or not or if he's too dominated by his own emotion to think wisely. To be fair though, he was a young man and this was his first and only war. So we can't judge him too harshly given the circumstances.

Now, could he have been better king than Aegon iii and Viserys ii? Maybe? Maybe not? Both the Targaryen princes were shaped by their circumstances. Could Jacaerys have survived what Aegon iii /Viserys ii went through?

I don't think we know enough about Jace to answer these questions. We know he loved his brothers, he was fiercely loyal to his mother and was eager to win this war. He was also a young boy with no battle experience, too eager and that led him to make mistakes. So how would he have coped if he had been in Aegon's position? (witness of his mother's murder and surrounded by traitors)

Aegon and Viserys obviously had some of the best traits of their parents we see glimpses of them as they grew but do you ever wondering who they would have become had they not been traumatized? I always wonder, especially for Aegon who was so haunted and depressed. What would he have become had the war never happened or had his mother survived at least?

It's up to us to wonder and imagine.

To bring it back to the "targ princes being undervalued", while it's true and it's frustrating for now, we gotta remember than the series didn't really show them properly other than when they were introduced to a dying viserys and that was over too quickly.

it also doesn't help that everybody's ages in the show are fucked up. There's no proper list of ages in hotd; cast members have said one thing, showrunners have said another, it's like time doesn't really exist in the show. Ryan has mentioned the ages are between 17-21 for the "kids" and that it.

In the book by the time the dance was about to start:

Daemon was 48

Rhaenyra was 32

Jacaerys was 15

Lucerys was 13

Baela & Rhaena were 13

Joffrey was 12

Aegon III was 9 

and Viserys II was 7

oh and Aegon ii was 22, Helaena 20, Aemond 19 and Daeron 15

In the show Jace is 16, Luke is 14,Joff is 7, Aegon iii is 3 or 4 and Viserys ii is 2. Baela and Rhaena aren't twins and Aegon ii is 20 with Aemond being 17 and Helaena 18

^ Those ages are debated among watchers and there are still plot holes with the timeskip. Point is, changing the ages of the Velaryon Princes, the Targaryen Princes and the Greens alters the dynamic between the characters and fans create different ideas.

Like, I can't blame a show watcher for not thinking about Aegon III and Viserys ii when they were merely toddlers with 1 scene.

On the other, I do sympathize with your frustration 'cause some book fans seem to have forgotten them too. When/if they eventually join the story properly maybe the tune will change.

oh, and because I forgot, about viserys ii and Aegon iii getting little empathy with what they had to live through, I'd say this is more of tg issue. Because while yes, I do see tb arguing the Velaryon boys suffered "the most" they at least don't ignore the fact that Aegon and Viserys did go through something awful. Meanwhile with tg the story is completely rewritten; Aegon iii is always made out to be a jerk because of jaehaera - he's "cruel" and an "asshole" for not bending over for the girl whose father murdered his mother right in front of him. And there are always the jokes about Viserys ii being a "baby daddy at the age of 11!😜" Nevermind the implications of what this actually means for him.

I don't see team black ever making these type of crude jokes for Aegon & Viserys

The thought just hit me. If eve's biology changed in a way that she is now closer, more conpatible with cybertronian lifeformes. Does that mean that there is a possibility that she could get pregnant with one? Since I'm assuming that the cybertronians in your fic like in canon don't reproduce the same way that organic's due, that would be something unprecedented and It could creat so much drama. The child would be a natural techno-organic being and with eve's biology who knows how it would look or what it would inherit.

What are your thoughts on this?

You're right in your assumption - I am following IDW's reproductive lore where Cybes are born via hotspots like cabbage patch kids. I think it brings an added vibe of desperation. Their planet is dormant/dying, there are no new Cybes to carry on the next generation, and the war is slowly wiping out the species. That nugget of lore comes up in the upcoming book, When Sparks Burn.

As for the pregnancy part, I'll try my best not to inject any personal bias. Pregnancy in fics don't vibe with me. I'm just not a fan. So you're not going to find many pregnancy themes in my fics.

BUT you do have a point, it would be absolutely unprecedented. It would be a whole book itself. A way to reproduce? To bring the Cybertronian race back to full strength? Of course Eve would be in that lab with everyone else trying to find out how it happened, and if it can happen again. Her Autobot friends would be there for her every step of the way, but there would be those who felt it was unnatural. Depending on the sire, they would either be happy, or repulsed. I would also imagine it wouldn't be an easy pregnancy.

But who I would cast as the main villain? Who would love to get his hands on her? All eight of them?

idk if anyone has done this before but da2 au where you think at first its a both twins lived au and then find out bethany died and thats actually non-warden amell posing as her. something something escaped with jowan maybe, found her relatives in lothering, sought refuge with them and when bethany ended up dying it was way lower profile for amell to take the place of her cousin than try to get in to kirkwall with them as a non-immediate family member (especially given that leandra is publicly coming in as an amell and theres a resemblance and its known revka had mage kids taken to the circle and im sure theres a bulletin out or whatever for an escaped apostate matching amells description). points if people comment on how ‘bethany’ clearly takes after her mother. leandra is not normal about it. aveline knew the real bethany at least in passing bc of living in the same town and treats this as a reason for her distrust of hawke and co and one of the reason she sabotages carvers application with the guard.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was so real for creating the most in-depth, realistic clothing system I've ever seen in any game, and exclusively using it on burly, unhygienic men.

You choose every layer, every accessory, with dozens to hundreds of each to choose from. You can go in and fine-tune minute details like whether or not to roll up the shirt sleeves, or button the collar, or whether to wear your pants under your boots. These clothes get dirty in real time depending on what you do in the game. Mud, dust and blood linger unless washed off. Every garment has a warmth rating based on its material, and the game calculates what temperatures an outfit is suitable for based on the combined total. Dressing too cold or warm for the weather causes health debuffs.

You can choose which way he parts his hair, and whether he gels it. If you eat too much he gets bulkier and gains a double chin, and if you eat too little he can go underweight and get all bony and sallow. Both of these states come with stat changes. His hair and beard grow in real game time, and you need to routinely style and shave his facial hair if you want any style other than a full Santa. You need to bathe him regularly or people will start commenting on his BO, and he'll start visibly appearing filthy long before that. He sunburns in the sun, and in the heat he becomes slick and glossy with sweat.

This shit is IN DEPTH. It blows the customization systems of actual fashion-centric games like tf2, Monster Hunter and Splatoon out of the water in every regard. They honestly look basic in comparison. It's a paradigm shift for sure once you experience RDR2's level of customization. Everything else starts to feel smaller.

The player character all this customization is applied to, and I simply cannot stress this enough, is a 36 year old, 6'3" smoker weighing well over 200 pounds, with facial hair thicker than a sheepdogs, forearms like gnarled tree trunks and a dark, dense forest of body hair covering every reasonable surface. His skin is pocked and marred with scars from a rugged, nomadic lifestyle, and his teeth are the colour of cornbread. He has a thick southern accent, is a known mean drunk and knows how to skin pretty much any North American animal. He has never worn deodorant, flossed or moisturized. He eats canned beans, fruit and the like by simply pouring them into his mouth and gulping, often while walking or riding a horse at full gallop.

I can think of NO better use case for such customization. Not some fresh-faced little twink, not some busty anime babe. Just a gross, hairy, unwashed homeless dude with crippling self esteem issues and a chest broader than a barrel laid lengthwise. A non fashion-centric game, certainly a non-fashion centric character, but for some reason the best clothing and customization system ever concieved, bar none. What the fuck.
