its been a billion years since I posted anything meaningful about mcga but I'm thinking about Alex helping Magnus with clothes.

I think Blitzen would love to help style Magnus, but I think he might accidentally end up being a bit overbearing, albeit with good intentions. He wants to help, but would probably end up tripping over his own fashion opinions more often than not, and Magnus would want to make his friend happy too much to actually voice his own opinions consistently. But Alex would understand that identity through fashion is something slow to be discovered on your own. It's not instant, it's a slow process of trying things and finding out what makes you feel good physically and emotionally. You can't pressure a person finding their own style, especially someone who's never had much room to do so and will likely feel guilty about making that room. She's gone through the process, and she'd probably be more than happy to help someone with it too.

I'm thinking about them going around to different stores and finding that Magnus likes second hand and low-end boutique stuff more than anything. Alex letting him onto her etsy account and buying his first piece of jewelry, taking him around to all of her favorite stores where she's greeted as a friend. Yeah, they could do all this in Valhalla, but where's the fun in that?

I think Magnus would like earth tones and dark, muted colors. He would avoid synthetic materials for their unnaturally soft textures and blue would make rare appearances. Alex would parade him around in his first pair of White Guy Khaki Shorts in five years, glowing with a silly sort of pride and Magnus feeling something kindle back to life in his chest at a growing collection or flannels, just like his mom. I'm imagining Magnus learning what it's like to live with his body, rather than despite it, and feel comfortable with himself in his surroundings for the first time since he was a little kid, taking a hike in the woods. And I'm thinking of Alex holding his hand the whole time.

I really feel like a Soulsb0rne protag is the only character I can actually be lol. Not the custom version, but the concept

- Strong sense of being guided by something / following it without question (I believe I told this story in a September, how finding star-shaped objects for me is equal to checking bonfires/cites of grace/etc)

- I am an absolute looser that was cast off the face of the world very, very long time ago and I am not supposed to be where I am right now considering everything that happened to me, I carried on because of the sense of something having 'called' me

- Everyone hostile towards me either keeps respawning or is ridiculously difficult to defeat, without help at least, but my friends tend to have the worst luck and be found broken for the reasons I have 0 control over..

- Identity difficulties; it feels like I am able to pick up literally any character as a kin or relate to every character, and yet not really be any of them for long enough. I've been trying to 'claim' a character for many years in many interests, but it feels like I am cursed with always being an OC, if not a self-insert xD (Similarly to how the protag can take armours, skills and weapons of any other NPCs but in the end they're not them)

- No matter how much experience I receive, none of this internalizes until I have a very long talk about it with a trusted friend (similarly to the level-up characters)

- I've met the person who already walked (and was broken by) the very same way I was only about to head towards.. When I've met him, I knew with my gut feeling that I was looking at my own future, even if I could not explain how it could be because of decage age and experience gap between us. And just like I felt, the very same harm that turned him That Way started to be inflicted on me. He gave me "This same thing happened to me years ago / this is why I no longer bother with [insert a demographic]" more times than I could count, and I to this day feel like there is no escape but to repeat his path and become just like him.. except my way is still not finished, and I have a chance to come out different and carry on the impossible way I guess? (Souls games tend to have a character that was on the same quest as the protag prior to game events, but it broke them. Vyke, Djura, Vеndrick....)

I'm honestly not sure why Kishimoto Masashi hasn't done any other stories that isn't Naruto (well, there's Samurai 8, but that ended up cancelled, and Boruto is...well. It's Boruto But Let's Disassemble Boruto's Dad's Canon Until Not Even The Atoms Are Left).

Compared to the high fantasy ninja-cum-borderline-modern-day-cyberpunk aesthetic, Mario was such a breath of fresh air. Maybe not as lived in as Naruto (because it's a forty-four page one-shot, and you can't really afford to waste time on making New York feel "lived in" in that many pages), but it's so grounded in reality that the environment and the foundations of the story are already set in place. It doesn't have to worry about playing with the Magic System or keeping its chronology from getting tangled up in retcons and deus ex machina. It's short, it's simple, and gets right to the point while leaving many of its other elements inferred and in the background.

like kuukou functions as if this isn’t his story, he’s not the protagonist of it; moving behind the scenes to ensure jyushi gets his chance to shine on stage and affirm himself, pushing hitoya out of the way to take an attack because he probably could sense hitoya needed to be on that stage facing jakurai, following ichiro’s lead and helping when he asks and it’s interesting to see it reinforced so often

idk about ass BUT for clothes over patagium I've actually been thinking about this a lot lately for my own purposes, and depending on how attached you are to wings being visible, what you could do is have the wing fingers fold back down along the arm. this would flatten the patagium more against the body and allow clothes to fit over the outside! the leg to tail patagium is a bit harder to work around but is also easier to hand-wave away, especially if your tail is less connected so that it's prehensile. hopefully this all makes sense and is helpful!

OUGH that would be a good solution except my guy's wings are separate from his arms 😭 he has both wings and arms. i was thinking of doing a similar thing with the patagium around the tail tho, where's it's held closer to the body in most instances so he can like. fit a waistband around it. especially since he doesn't have a patagium connecting his tail to his legs, so the pantlegs themselves won't be an issue. but that would still get in the way if he did wanna fly or just extend his wings cuz then the waistband would block the patagium from stretching out again. unless i put the waistband under the tail. but that would be Really Uncomfortable and probably also impractical.

I'm too lazy to illustrate it (plus I think I'd get too caught up in the process LMFAO) but when drawing/adding personal touches to Lif's design I am channeling Lio Fotia Promare for his armor (ESP the Mad Burnish armor) Lewis Mystery Skulls (less aesthetic similarities reflected but like, kinda similar broad chested body type similar vibes and important heart motifs) (heart motif isn't pictured in this Lewis image but if you've seen the animated music vids you get it) and literally just any 2D animated Disney villain who is Shaped and Dramatic (and has a huge fucking cape or coat -- tbh the specific ones I think about are Maleficent and Cruella just from the dramatic/big cape standpoint, purely aesthetic)

Here’s something I have (haven’t finished it, but it has some great concepts): The Steal Like An Artist Journal, which is like a workbook adaptation of Austin Kleon’s Steal Like An Artist book?

One of the core points is this: if you copy a storyline/character/idea from another series, it looks like stealing. If you copy five and synthesize them together, you create something new. (Again, as new as anything can be under the sun etc. etc.)

A lot of book editors like to bill things as “X meet Y with twist of Z”, and I’ve seen a game dev say that it can be a good way to keep focus on a game’s core concept after he got distracted with multiple unrelated items and created some unfortunate mishmashes that didn’t have a clear concept (video here if you’re interested!).

Several years ago, there are a popular art game on Tumblr that involved making a circle with (usually) 3 Established Fandom characters. Then, between each of them was a secondary set of new characters with traits from both Established Characters, and at the center of the circle was a New Character with traits from all three.

So the point is, as mentioned it’s virtually impossible to make something entirely new, uninfluenced by anything else... but it IS totally possible to make something different, by adding more and more ingredients to the pot until you get a recipe you like.

Artists of all kinds, especially new artists. I am gripping you by the shoulders right now. Listen.

It is impossible to be completely original.

It simply cannot be done. No matter how hard you try, there will always be something out there at least slightly similar to what you do. And that's okay. We always stand on the shoulders of the giants that came before us, and they stand on the shoulders of the ones before them. Don't twist yourself into knots trying to create techniques and styles that have never been used before.
