First of all, I love you Letters, thank you for the ask.

Okay so, lore behind We All Lie Amongst The Thorns and Survival Is A Team Sport. I have done proper wip summaries on my intro post here, but I'd be happy to go into more detail.

We All Lie Amongst The Thorns is a fairy tale retelling. The main character is my version of Sleeping Beauty. The story starts on her presentation ceremony (the day about a week after her birth when she is presented to the public) where a fairy from each discipline will bless her, except for the divination fairy, who will read her future. After the blessings are given the divination fairy has her vision and says that she will be cursed to fall into a deep sleep on her sixteenth birthday, and that this curse will bring about the kingdom's downfall. The king, terrified of losing his power, sends the newborn baby deep into the woods, far away from him. And thus the story begins.

Survival Is A Team Sport starts out on a beautiful sunny summer day, the main character Camryn's birthday. He and his friends are on the way to his house after school to celebrate when suddenly the sky goes dark and strange things start dropping from the sky. The kids' path home is blocked, so they take cover in a nearby garage. The sounds of chaos continue throughout the night, and when they finally peek out in the morning, everything has changed.

NOOOOOO DON'T ASK THE LIBRARIAN THISSSSS *stares blankly at my shelves* i love you all......

ok to answer this, i've had to narrow down my options to only young adult fiction. if i included all the middle grade, adult, graphic novels, comics, manga and poetry i have read, i would truly not know how to start (and this still felt impossible)

with that let's begin!

six of crows duology by leigh bardugo - this will always be my #1. my ultimate comfort read. these fantastic characters pulled me rough a really rough time in my life, where constantly reread these books to keep me grounded. inej ghafa the character you are. i love my crime found family

the other side of perfect by mariko turk - this book fully revitalised a love of reading for me after uni. i sat down one day and basically finished it in one sitting, just could not put it down

legendborn series by tracey deonn - worldbuilding! character development! the magic!!! all TOP NOTCH. so incredibly excited for book three, i might have to reread the first two to prepare

the lesbiana's guide to catholic school + the luis ortega surival club by sonora reyes - holyyyy shit. um basically after tlgtcs, which became my favourite read that year, i decided i would read whatever sonora reyes ever wrote. both books are FANTASTIC, cannot recommend them enough.

the gilded wolves trilogy by roshani chokshi - divine. i love fantasy heist novels and these were phenomenal. the ending absolutely got to me

cannot separate last night at the telegraph club by malinda lo or i feed her to the beast (and the beast is me) by jamison shea. both books changed me and made me stare into the distance when i finished.

DC OC | Powers Explained Pt.2

Part 1

As a Star Sapphire, Venus has most of the typical powers owners of the ring do. However, she has an ability that separates her from the rest: crystallization. She can actually control the Star Sapphire crystal without its parasitic properties suppressing her.

Venus Parks | Star Sapphire

Over time, her body begins to slowly absorb the power of the ring, allowing Venus to use her Star Sapphire powers without its presence. This also leads to the development of new powers such as cosmic energy manipulation. It also forms a symbiotic bond with her.

Daliah Yukimura | Snow

Like her sister Camryn, Daliah is a Metahuman with her Metagene being snow manipulation as opposed to Camryn's ice crystals. This also makes her able to withstand cold temperatures without getting sick or getting hypothermia. Later on, she discovers she has an ice demon form after pushing her powers to the limits during a battle.

Her ice demon form is a result of a combination of her family's blessings from an ancient ice demon (explained here). However, Daliah only uses it in extreme circumstances.

Sasha Ray | Wavedancer

Due to her water spirit physiology, Sasha is faster, stronger, and more durable than the average human as well as possessing the ability to speak and breath underwater. On land, Sasha's senses become more acute.

Sasha is the most powerful person in both her bloodline and tribe, wielding godlike powers over all forms of water. Her abilities include hydrokinesis, weather manipulation, and storm creation.

Elyon Morningstar | Pandora

Elyon's main powers include black magic and the dark arts. She has knowledge of various forms and spells, drawing them from Hell and the demon realms. Because she naturally has magic in her blood, Elyon is considered a Magi.

Similar to sisters Jezebel and Azriel and Myra, Elyon had a Demon form. Not only is her physiology more enhanced in this state, but has greater magical abilities since she channels both her personal and ancestral magical energies.

Lilith Morningstar | Hex

Lilith's powers and abilities differ from Jezebel's despite sharing the same parents. She inherited the Fallen Angel powers including dark energy manipulation, possession, and control of both divine and demonic forces. But she rarely uses them since she's the techie and doesn't go out in the field.

Lilith has a Fallen Angel form which allows her to access the full extent of her powers as a dark divine being.

Brittney Foster | Hermia

As the reincarnation of an Amazon, Brittney has the powers of one including superhuman strength, speed, and durability. She is also bestowed the power to control light by Titania.

ahem! anyways! the celestial realm is gonna be where the conflict is, so although it’s basically the heaven realm, in the story it isn’t so heavenly anymore. Very sanitized, stark, but it’s still very beautiful it’s just now clean but sickly so. No soul no coziness anymore. You know when you’re little n you go to like a family friends house or smth n their house is really nice. It’s all really pretty but, ‘don’t touch anything’ n ‘don’t sit too deep on the couch!! Be still! It’s very much that ki nd of vibe. I’m going to be referencing multiple eras for this one; rococo, medieval, renaissance, and industrial revolution (just for the hair styles mostly lol).

Her partner’s name is Frankie (she/they)! They’re a night sky elf, I kind of made it up but it’s also not that original but I’ll describe my ver. because lots of people n stories have starry characters. So in the sky realms, there’s day sky realm n night sky realm, she’s the latter. So she has a dark skin and freckles like the night sky!! Their hair is galaxy colored!~ She’s a witch, specializing in divination and potiondry. She also just has unique star / cosmos powers from being a night sky elf!

And yeah it’s true nct’s bsides are very underrated. I love the flow they have a lot of their songs when they sing it just feels like they’re having fun! So they’re perfect to dance to when you cook n clean!

Hmmmmmm I haven’t even thought about holidays for this au!! Since she’s part human n is in the human realm a lot I feel like she’d love the autumn n winter holidays cuz a lot of it has to do with baking and she loves it n her mom runs a bakery! If I had to choose it’d be Valentine’s Day. She’s just a lover. She would probably make a Valentine for every person she’s ever met! It’s sweets plus love that’s basically her!!<3 I’ll have to come up with unique holidays for the celestial realm but I plan on the night sky realms to have a bunch of holidays related to constellations, moon phases, eclipses and comets that sort of thing!🥰

My fav holiday is probably Halloween too!! It’s the queerest holiday around!! Plus autumn is debatably the best season, just barely beating out spring. But spring holidays are kinda lame.

Ineffable Advent Day 31: We'll Take Cup of Kindness Yet

Can you flippin' believe we've come to the end of the advent challenge? @drawlight, thank you so much for hosting this, it's been such an amazing experience, and I can't wait to catch up with the other works that have been written alongside mine.

The front room of the cottage in the South Downs buzzed with conversation and laughter.

Next to the re-decorated pine tree, Sergeant Shadwell had cornered the Akinjides, the new couple from down the street, and was sharing with them the latest news on modern witch-finding, much to their bewilderment. Their daughter Camryn had curled up on the couch after braiding one side of Crowley's hair in a staggery cornrow, and was now fast asleep.

Madam Tracy and Anathema were deep in conversation about the pros and cons of various methods of divination, while Newt offered advice to Mrs. Johnson on defragmenting her ancient computer.

Aziraphale was flitting from group to group like an excited butterfly, while Crowley, who was leaning against the mantelpiece, watched him with a fond smile.

Sensing his gaze, Aziraphale turned and joined him, leaning over to murmur, "Isn't this wonderful?"

Crowley studied his bright eyes and pink cheeks, and nodded. "Glad you're having fun, angel." He glanced at the clock and stood to attention. "Right, everybody, it's time for the countdown."

"Ten, nine, eight..."

Aziraphale bustled about, making sure everyone's champagne glass was full.

"Seven, six, five..."

Camryn woke up and began bouncing up and down with excitement as they counted.

"Four, three, two..."

Aziraphale rejoined Crowley and squeezed his hand, lacing their fingers together.

"One... Happy New Year!"

Anathema grabbed Newt's face and kissed him. Mr. Akinjide swept his wife into his arms and bent her backward, laughing. Even Shadwell gave Madam Tracy a shy peck. Mrs. Johnson and Camryn cheered and clapped from the couch.

Aziraphale smiled at Crowley. "Happy New Year, my dear," he whispered, reaching up and kissing him. His lips were soft, and warm, and full of promises.

"Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?" Mrs. Johnson began singing in a quavery voice. Gradually, the others joined her.

"Should old acquaintance be forgot, and old lang syne?"

Aziraphale wrapped his arms around Crowley's waist, and Crowley draped one arm across his shoulders. They gazed around the room at their friends, old and new; those who remembered the events of the past year and those who had forgotten.

"For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne..."

The angel's eyes met the demon's, and they smiled as they sang. They smiled for their memories of the old long since, and they smiled for the memories the coming year would bring. They smiled for the lives of the humans they loved, and they smiled for the earth.

"We'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne..."

Camryn thinks for a moment, then a smug, devilish grin grows on her face.

"Just a little teleportation spell using divine and dark magic simultaneously. The two opposites are so repulsed by each other that when put together in the same spell, they override any other kind of magic."

She's confident that it's the perfect plan.

Two days pass by. It's around noon.

Morningstar is pacing, trying to think of a way out of her deal with Gaia.

An idea pops in her head. Make a deal with Claire that contradicts her deal with Gaia.

"[MAMA] GAIA, I'M GOING TO RAID [The] PHOENIX SOCIETY HEADQUARTERS."

Gaia, not knowing Morningstar's real plan, allows the fallen angel to do so.

So, with permission to leave the Greenhouse, Morningstar warps to the HQ. She very quickly finds Claire in the training room. Ember is there, too, probably asleep, but Morningstar is here for Claire.

"HEY CLAIRE. HOW IS [8000 Life Points] TREATING Y OU? NEVERMIND THAT, IT DOESN;T MATTER. I HAVE [[A Great Deal]] JUST FOR Y OU. [sending help] WITH [[Hyperlink Blocked]] AND [[It Burns! Ow! Stop! Help Me! It Burns!]] [MAMA] GAIA TO FR3E [Side Chick] LUCIA! ALL FOR [The Low Low Price Of] ABSOLUTELY NO KROMER AT ALL! IT'S A [[Specil Deal]] [[Amazed at thi5 amazing transformation? You too can]]'T REFUSE!"

Even More Movie Reviews!

For this post, I'm covering the 2005 classic, "Twitches". Adapted from the YA novel series of the same name, "Twitches" centers on a pair of twin sisters- Artemis and Apolla- who are born to the King and Queen of the magical country of Coventry. Coventry is under threat of the Darkness, a magical force that devours all in its path. The twin sisters are separated at birth on Halloween and are teleported to the human world by the family's servants who spend the next 21 years watching over them in hiding. Artemis is raised as Alex Fielding, a working-class writer who shares an apartment with her best friend Lucinda, while Apolla is adopted by the wealthy Barnes family and renamed Camryn, and develops a talent for art. Both sisters are able to divine visions of Coventry through their chosen medium, and are reunited on Halloween. The sisters realize they have magical powers together and dub themselves "Twitches" (twin witches.)

Thoughts:

Not my favorite of the Disney original Halloween movies, but I always think this one warrants a nice nostalgia re-watch, I think. The dynamic between twins Tia and Tamera Mowry (who are no strangers to playing twins separated at birth, like in "Sister, Sister") makes for some fun scenes, as does the bickering old-married-couple dynamic of the twins' guardians, Karsh and Ileana, who seem more concerned over deciding where to move than doing their jobs. (Ileana: "This dimension has 10-cent chicken wings on Wednesdays!") The action does get pretty scary at times, and it would be fairly easy to reframe this as a horror movie when considering the premise involves a giant shadow monster terrorizing them and their kingdom. A fairly overlooked film in Disney's lineup, but worth a watch.

Raven’s Wings Session 1: We’re Not in Neverwinter Anymore

-A new adventure begins! Starring Camryn as half elf lore bard Cecily, Averie as wood elf shepherd druid Aspen, Aidyn as elf/tiefling divine sorcerer Aralin, and Katie as half elf lore bard Selina. An entire party of twigs!

-The campaign begins in a festival celebrating the rebuilding of Neverwinter. The members of the soon-to-be adventuring party have come to the city to join in the celebration and to take a break from their usual lives. They all meet each other in line for a new invention of distant lands- ice cream.

-The two bards make passive aggressive comments at each other, as they are in rival bands performing soon. Aspen talks to her pigeon, Lasagna. Aralin is between all of these crazy people hoping they don’t notice her.

-They get their ice cream, and then the performance begins- a musical! The two bard groups try to outperform each other- but Cecily’s group rolls much higher and they all whip out electric guitars. The crowd goes wild. Selina’s band didn’t stand a chance.

-The characters disperse back into the crowd to enjoy the festival.

-They eventually meet back up later in the day as all of them have taken an interest in some of the strange creatures brought in from distant lands for a later performance.

-Aspen sees a young displacer beast chasing a butterfly and tries to climb the fence to pet it. A jackal-headed woman named Revolia notices her bad attempts at stealth and opens the gate for her, saying she is welcome to look closer at her creatures if she asks.

-The future party gets extremely attached to a baby dragon turtle who they name Linguini.

-The group bonds over their love for this adorable turtle, and even more so when Aspen starts speaking to him in draconic. The party introduces themselves to each other at last.

-Seeing their interest in the creatures, Revolia tells them that she will grant them one of her creatures in return for bringing back a magic item to her- the greater the item, the more valuable the creature. Cecily agrees, and Revolia shakes her hand saying that they have a deal. She says she will tell them more after her performance.

-Night falls over the city of Neverwinter as crowds gather once more to witness another show. The streets are lit once more as Revolia, now in human form, begins the show by calling forth a shining phoenix to rise from behind her and soar over the crowds. Various other creatures come onto the stage to greet a cheering crowd, then it eventually comes to an end as the phoenix disappears from view, returning the streets to darkness.

-The crowd disperses once more, and as the party turns to leave they hear the voice of Revolia in their minds telling them to speak with her in a nearby alley. The party obeys with hesitation. Revolia explains more of what she wishes for them to find. Aspen asks where she wants them to go to find the items, and the jackal-headed woman laughs and tells them they are already here. The mist that was rolling through the alleys grows thicker, surrounding the party until they can’t see anything- then fades away, Revolia nowhere to be seen.

-A feeling of unease and dread falls over the party, a feeling that they do not belong. The party runs back to where the stage was, but when they emerge back into the open streets they find only decaying buildings, empty streets, and a world drained of color. The party has entered the Shadowfell.

-Despair begins to creep over the party as they find no hint of familiarity in their surroundings, and no clue to their return. Most of them fight it off, but the oppressive gloom takes hold in Aralin’s mind, as the tiefling becomes sure that this place is going to kill her. The poor pigeon Lasagna also falls under the Shadowfell despair, becoming still and crying underneath Aspen’s cloak.

-The frightened sounds of the party attract the attention of two zombies who attack the party. They fight them off easily, not taking any hits. The combat ends quickly and the party gathers close, weapons drawn and looking out for the next threat.

-They hear the sounds of footsteps approaching, and a woman in dark robes of purple and black greets them. She introduces herself as Zara, and tells them that she can take them somewhere safe- The living are not common here, and she suggests they stick together.

-When the party refuses, hooded figures surround the party from the alleys as Zara tells them that they will be coming with her. And here this first session ends!
