your badly summarised wips and i can't live without knowing what's up with survival is a team sport and we lay amongst the thorns give me the lore please

First of all, I love you Letters, thank you for the ask.

Okay so, lore behind We All Lie Amongst The Thorns and Survival Is A Team Sport. I have done proper wip summaries on my intro post here, but I'd be happy to go into more detail.

We All Lie Amongst The Thorns is a fairy tale retelling. The main character is my version of Sleeping Beauty. The story starts on her presentation ceremony (the day about a week after her birth when she is presented to the public) where a fairy from each discipline will bless her, except for the divination fairy, who will read her future. After the blessings are given the divination fairy has her vision and says that she will be cursed to fall into a deep sleep on her sixteenth birthday, and that this curse will bring about the kingdom's downfall. The king, terrified of losing his power, sends the newborn baby deep into the woods, far away from him. And thus the story begins.

Survival Is A Team Sport starts out on a beautiful sunny summer day, the main character Camryn's birthday. He and his friends are on the way to his house after school to celebrate when suddenly the sky goes dark and strange things start dropping from the sky. The kids' path home is blocked, so they take cover in a nearby garage. The sounds of chaos continue throughout the night, and when they finally peek out in the morning, everything has changed.

They name themselves.

House elves don't have parents. They're never children. They spring fully formed from whatever bore them, be it earth or sea or sky.

They don't need names, really. They don't use names with each other because they don't have to. It's the house elf who's in that brook over there, or the one in that rose bush, or even those ones that take care of the clearing.

They only start using them when people notice them. Not always humans, but persons figure out they're there, and they exist, and they ask, "Who are you? What's your name?"

It didn't matter much to them, because they knew who they were, but it seemed very important to the people coming to talk to them, so they obliged, and became more than what they had sprung from.

That was a gift, later, to have something more to their identity than the home that no longer existed.

Hello and welcome to me trying to figure out how to use Tumblr to share my work!

This is going to be an introduction to my current wips and some organizational stuff

Okay so, the story you're going to be hearing me talk about the most is called What's Your Story.

It follows the various members of it's quirky cast as they discover the magic of the world around them and their struggles as their new lives lead them to clash with a group known as the Organization, whose goal is to take over every universe and bring the whole of creation under their control. This cosmic war is the underlying conflict of the story, but the writing itself focuses on the characters and how they got to this point.

Another one of my wips that I've begun to share is tentatively titled Appearances Are Deceiving. Here's an introduction to it:

Kairna and Taren are twin siblings, and the top students of the prestigious Hornfel Academy, the best school on the planet. However, with a new and slightly strange Director recently being put in charge, the school's reputation may well be on the line. Kairna and Taren are orphans and the rarest subtype of elf, one that's often hunted down for their power. Without the protection of the school, things will go south for them fast. You follow them as they try to figure out what this new director's deal is and help him retain control of the school.

My newest wip is We All Lie Amongst The Thorns.

This is a dark fairy tale retelling that combines several tales into one. The story follows the main character Rosalie (Sleeping Beauty) as she tries to discover who she really is. She eventually learns the dark secrets of her past which leads her to resent her birth parents, the king and queen. She goes on a mission to find others who have been unjustly cast out by the kingdom to help her bring it down.

Another wip, Nearly Parallel Lives

These thirteen people have nothing to do with each other. They've never met or heard of each other. They live in completely different parts of the world. But when strange things start happening to all of them, they feel strangely compelled to investigate. Through their investigations they begin to discover that things might not be as separate as they originally seemed.

The Enchanted Forests

The human population is expanding, and they need space. The Enchanted Forests are sacred places that have never been touched by human hands. They are in the way of human expansion, and are going to be cut down. The last surviving sorceress and protector of the forests is not happy about this, but she's just one woman. She needs to recruit more to her cause. She needs successors.

It starts out as any normal day. Then the world ends. Okay not really, but if apocalypses exist, this is one. Survival Is A Team Sport follows high schooler Camryn Bird and his group of friends as they try to survive the craziness that has descended upon the world, find their families if they're still alive, and find out what caused this apocalypse.

Like A Movie

Like A Movie is your stereotypical romance novel, except it's written from the perspective of the stereotypical tall dark handsome love interest. The problem? Said love interest is not at all interested in any of the girls he's "supposed" to fall in love with. He starts to believe that he's simply not capable of love, until he meets someone new. A young man with a beautiful infectious smile. Maybe he was just looking in the wrong place after all.

☼: how i came up with the idea

i just thought a draco harry soulmate story when they’re kids who still kinda hate each other and aren’t really looking to fall in love (on account of being 12) would be interesting because like. if you don’t have lust or years of indignant pigtail pulling between you, and you’re both at your most obnoxious (again, 12) then how do you get out of that to something better? 

lol it was also only supposed to be a small oneshot, about 6-8k, but we’re all aware how that turned out

oh god. the whole fic, honestly? i’m just so glad people like it. in siat i just fill it with things i love and that i think are fun and interesting and try not to get hung up on if it’s too weird, even though there are times when i’m like, this is boring no one cares about this but me, but somehow you guys still like it even though i fill it with ocs and made up lore and stuff?? it’s just so nice to make something people really like that is also really weird

How dare you. I've been wanting to buckle down and write dnd lore all weekend, but all I've been doing is reading siat. It's too fantastic. I've stayed up until 5 am twice reading it. I adore all the snakes. The way you write them is incredible. You'll be hearing from my lawyers.

Hi, I absolutely love SIAT, it's one of my favorite HP fics and I've reread it too many times to count. I just finished it again and I was wondering about what you consider canon form the first book, do you consider the first book's plot completely, word for word, canon in SIAT even if some of the lore (soulmates, etc.) isn't or just the most basic of the happenings in the book?

mostly canon happenings, i’d say. a lot of people were like “HEY THEY’RE DEAD!!!” when i introduced the flamels, but honestly i don’t even consider that going against canon because we never hear how they died or if they did. dumbles is just like “without the elixer they’ll die” and for all we know the flamels were yucking it up in their hot tub full of philosophers stones like scrooge mcduck

and it just never got mentioned because it wasn’t part of harry’s journey

Is there any overlap between conceptual stuff for your ho fics? Like: the way blood is in NGAWB. Is that also true in SIAT? If not, are any worldbuilding concepts for the wizarding world the same in both stories?

ngawb is my horrible out of control lore child where i’m just like “i’m building MY OWN MAGICAL WORLD I GUESS and also these young folks are in love” which isn’t at all what i intended but is what happened

the myth/lore of each universe is separate! :)
