when they wrongfully accuse you of cheating ~ misfits
request?: yes!
“Hello, can you do please do post about Misfits when they wrongly accuses reader of cheating? Have a nice day❤”
warnings: swearing, mentions of cheating, angst
masterlist (one, two)
Tumblr media
FITZ:
After his not so great run in with She Who Shall Not be Names (Katerino), Cameron’s trust levels were not very high. When he started dating you, he tried to push those concerns to the back of his mind. You had a similar experience with an ex as he had with Kate, so he felt the likeliness of you cheating on him was very slim. But then he met a friend of yours, a friend that happened to be a guy, a guy friend that Cameron felt was getting a little too close to you. This, unfortunately, resulted in a fight that lasted nearly an entire hour. “(Y/F/N) is just a friend, Cam! There’s nothing between us!” “You spend so much more time with him than you do with me, though. You’re always out together, you always want to hang out with him, you were even out with him the other night when you told me you were going out for a girl’s night!” You scoffed and handed the final blow of the argument, “If you fucking listened to me for one second you’d let me explain that (Y/F/N) is fucking gay!” You slammed the door behind you as you left Cameron’s apartment, leaving him speechless, heartbroken, and feeling like a complete fucking idiot.
~~~~~~
INOTORIOUS:
While Matt often did join in on the jokes at his expense with his friends, he couldn’t help but take them to heart too. He knew none of his friends meant anything by what they were saying, but he often found himself believing the playful insults they threw his way. This led to him believing he wasn’t good enough to be with you and worrying about the day when you’d realize you could do better and break up with him. All his fears and insecurities came to a head when he noticed how close of friends you and Cam were becoming. “I don’t like that you hang out with Cam so much.” You looked up at him over your laptop, raising an eyebrow. “Why not?” “I just...I don’t like it. I don’t mind that you’re friends with the guys, but you and Cam are...you’re different. I don’t like it.” You placed your laptop aside and sat up so you could directly walk to him. “What exactly is different about me and Cam?” “You just...you’re all touchy feely and you have inside jokes and you hang out alone together a lot...like...like a lot a lot.” “I don’t hang out with Cam alone at all. Usually one of the guys is there with us.” “You go out smoking weed with him.” “Yeah, and you can see us through the glass windows that lead out into the backyard, that’s hardly alone. What’s this really about, Matt?” He shuffled in his seat, not wanting to voice the concerns that he had. He was looking down at his hands, avoiding eye contact at all costs. This was enough of an answer for you. “You think I’m gonna fool around with Cam behind your back?” Matt started to shake his head, but then stopped. “Matt, you know I’d never do that to you. Cam is just my friend, I think of him as the big brother I never had.” “But hes...he’s like...so much better than I am...” You stood up to hug Matt, bringing his head to your chest and cradling him as you ran your fingers through your hair. “Cam is far from better than you, Matt. You are the most amazing person I have ever met. I’d be crazy to let you go for anyone else, let alone Cam. You’re my one and only, okay? I love you.”
~~~~~~
MCCREAMY:
Long distance relationships sucked ass. Especially when the person you were dating was in a whole other country with a totally conflicting time zone. Having the times line up where you and Jay could call one another and talk for long periods of time very rarely ever lined up. It was hard, but the two of you tried your best. You texted each other at least once every day and tried to call when possible, and even posted cute little Instagram things just so you could tag one another in them. Jay saw one of these posts one day and his heart felt light with happiness. He wished he could just see you in person and finally be able to hold you and kiss you. He was about to continue scrolling when another post by you popped up, this time with another guy. It was a mirror selfie from a club of some kind. You were dressed in short shorts and a crop top and you were basically sitting in the guy’s lap. Jay felt himself becoming slightly angry at the post. Obviously you had meant to post it, there was a caption and the person was tagged, but had you meant for him to see it? He called you almost immediately, not caring if he was waking you or interrupting something. You answered on the second ring, sounding like you had been drifting off to sleep. “Jay? What’s up?” “Who is that in your latest Instagram picture?” You hummed in response, still out of it. “Didn’t I post one of the two of us?” “I meant before that.” You made another noise like you were thinking, before saying, “Oh, that’s (Y/F/N).” “Why were you sat on his lap in the picture?” “Jay, can we talk about this later? I can barley form a coherent thought right now so it feels like everything you’re saying it going over my head.” “No, I want you to tell me right now why you posted that picture with another guy.” There was some shuffling, then the sound of a light turning on. He could hear you yawn on the other end before you said, “Did you read the caption at all?” “A little.” He hadn’t. “Then you know that the picture is from years ago, before you and I even met. And that I was posting it to remember when (Y/F/N) and I met years ago in a bar when he photobombed a picture I was taking.” Jay was silent. He didn’t really know how to respond to that at all. He was starting to feel like an idiot, why didn’t he just read the caption? “I’m gonna go back to sleep,” you said, breaking the silence. “Call me at a reasonable time when you’re ready to apologize for whatever this was about.” Jay listened as you hung up, leaving him in shocked silence, feeling like a complete idiot.
~~~~~~
SWAGGERSOULS:
Despite his jokes online about his appearance, Swagger was actually pretty insecure about the way he looked. When the two of you had first started talking online, he refused to do video calls or to send you pictures for the first while because he was afraid you wouldn’t find him attractive. He build a small bit of confidence to finally start talking to you face to face and to actually meet you in person. But the insecurities regarding his looks were always there, and they led to your first fight as a couple when Swagger saw you dancing with a guy while you, the Misfits, and some of your girl friends were out together. “Why the fuck were you dancing with him?!” he called over the thumping club music. “I didn’t know I was dancing with him! I thought it was (Y/F/N)! We went out onto the dancefloor together and I thought she was still behind me. I didn’t know it was another guy until you came over.” Swagger scoffed and rolled his eyes. You raised an eyebrow at him. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” “Nothing.” “No, tell me Swagger.” “I just have a hard time believing you didn’t know some guy was grinding up behind you and you really just thought it was your friend. Did you really think I wouldn’t see? That I wouldn’t do anything about it?” “I didn’t fucking know!” “Whatever, (Y/N). Enjoy your dancing!” He left you shocked as you watched him walk away. Your face was on fire from anger and confusion, meanwhile Swagger was downing the beer he had in his hand, hoping to forget the night entirely when he woke up the next morning.
TOBYONTHETELE:
Toby prided herself on not being jealous or jumping to conclusions. She had a massive amount of trust in you, she always had. You had never given her a reason to believe otherwise. But when you started hiding your text messages from her, taking your phone with you every time you left the room instead of just leaving it there like you usually did, being vague about where you were and what you were doing, Toby couldn’t help but feel suspicious. You had never acted this way before, and she knew she shouldn’t jump to conclusions but she just couldn’t help it. All the signs pointed to one thing: you were seeing someone else. Toby worried over it for so long that she nearly made herself sick, and that’s when she finally snapped. She confronted you when you came home from one of your secret “errands” you went on. “If you’re cheating on me, just fucking break up with me and get it over with.” You were shocked. “What? Babe, I’m not cheating on you. Why would you think that?” “You’re so secretive and you hide your texts from me and your phone. You’re always so open with me, but lately you’ve been hiding something. The only logical thing is you’re seeing someone else.” You tried to hold back your laugh but it was nearly impossible. You started to giggle, which frustrated Toby even more. “Toby, I’m not seeing someone else. It’s going to ruin everything, but I was being secretive cause I was trying to plan this big surprise birthday party for you.” You laughed harder at her dumbfounded face as you hugged her and kissed her cheek. “You know I’d never cheat on you, babe. I love you too much.”
~~~~~~
ZUCKLES:
Mason loved to party. Literally everyone knew that, you included. You were more than fine with that, but what you weren’t fine with was him always leaving you alone when he went to parties. At first it was just nerve wracking considering the fact that you didn’t know anyone, but then it became downright frustrating for your boyfriend to leave your side the minute you walked through the doors of a house party or a club. It was even worst because it gave creepy drunk guys the opportunity to try and flirt with you because you were there all alone. The night that Mason finally caught some guy getting a little too close to you, you felt relief when he saved you. The relief quickly went away when Mason’s angry face turned to face you. “Who the fuck was that?” You scrunched up your nose at the stench of alcohol coming from him. “Some creep. Can we go home?” “Why was he getting close to you like that?” You scoffed. “Why are you getting so angry? He was flirting with me, not the other way around Mason.” “I don’t like finding my girlfriend getting close with some other dude when I’m not around. How many times has this happened?” You felt anger rising within you. How the fuck was he here getting angry with you when you were the one being hit on by some creep? “It’s happened nearly every time that you have left me alone when we go out, Mason. Which, newsflash, has been every time we go out! Don’t fucking stand here and get angry with me when you leave me alone for creepy drunk guys to try and hit on every time we go out! Also, the fact that you’d even think that I would hit on a guy when you’re not around is an extremely low fucking blow, Mason. I love you more than anything, I would never even think about flirting with someone else. The fact that you’re accusing me of anything right now and not listening to me is so fucking disgusting. I thought we had trust Mason!” When you started to walk away, Mason grabbed your arm. “Where are you going?” You yanked your arm free and responded, “Home! You make the decision if you trust me enough to believe me!”

Which NFL player needs a new team?
yahoo
Welcome to the War Room, where Yahoo Sports’ football minds kick around the key topics of the day. Today, we’re talking players who could use new teams, and mediocre teams that could use a little kick. Read on to submit a question of your own. Onward!
1. With Adrian Peterson finding (some) new life in Arizona, what other player would you say could benefit from a change of scenery?
Frank Schwab I’m not saying this will happen, but Eli Manning could use a new start … and there are more than a few teams that could use him. Manning is 36 years old on a 1-6 team with no offensive line and no receivers. Trading him would give him a new start and allow the Giants to start a rebuild. Imagine how much better off the Jaguars (run by his old coach Tom Coughlin) would be with Manning instead of Blake Bortles, or perhaps the Packers could stay in the playoff race with Manning until Aaron Rodgers gets back. Again, none of this will happen, and Manning will sadly play out the rest of the season on a team going nowhere. But it would shake things up if a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback got on a contender.
Shalise Manza Young Well, a change of scenery didn’t seem to work for Roberto Aguayo, but maybe it could for Martavis Bryant. Maybe. Bryant has made it clear that he is not happy with his lack of opportunities in the Steelers’ offense, whether through reports of a trade request or Instagram comments denigrating teammates (then deleting them), and skipped out on team meetings Monday. But how much can you trust Bryant? He missed all of the 2016 season after multiple violations of the substance abuse policy, and now is seemingly trying to shoot his way out of town in Pittsburgh. There are teams who could use a talented receiver, but you also need a strong locker room to deal with someone who seems like he’s difficult to deal with.
Zach Pereles The answer here has to be Martavis Bryant. He’s simply too good to be used as infrequently as the Steelers are using him. Bryant is losing snaps to JuJu Smith-Schuster, skipping mandatory meetings and expressing a desire to leave the Steel City. Mike Tomlin has reiterated that the team will keep Bryant around, but there will be a point where this relationship derails Pittsburgh’s season. Bryant is one of the most gifted receivers in the game. Plenty of teams need a guy like him and would be willing to help him restart his once-promising career at the still-ripe age of 25.
Jay Busbee There are a couple obvious ones; Andrew Luck (who would be a fool to come back anytime soon in a Colts uni) and Kirk Cousins come to mind. But let’s get weird. What if Cam Newton decides that Carolina’s hodgepodge of an offense, built with the intention of protecting him but with the effect of the exact opposite, isn’t working? Newton is signed through 2020, but there’s an out after the 2019 season, and the way quarterback salaries are trending, Newton’s deal will look like a bargain by then. Yes, the Panthers are 4-3 and right in the middle of the NFC South race. But what if matters turn ugly in Charlotte? Wouldn’t you love to see the Cam of 2015 again, even if he wasn’t in silver-and-teal?
Jordan Schultz Martavis Bryant is in dire need of a new home. In a span of 10 days, he has reportedly requested a trade and told the press–not his coaches!–how unhappy he is with a lack of touches, after a win mind you. Then, Bryant took to Instagram to try and humiliate JuJu Schuster-Smith, a rookie receiver who has outplayed him all year. Oh, and as if that wasn’t enough, Bryant “stayed home” Monday because of an apparent doctor visit. The shame of this whole situation is how incredibly talented Bryant is. The Steelers should be able to extract some tangible value for the 25-year-old and a trade would seemingly benefit both parties at this point.
Brandon Velaski Joe Flacco, not so much for himself but so the Ravens can move on from him and attempt to keep pace with the Steelers in the AFC North. The Browns are always looking for new QBs to ruin, so there’s a system fit there.
[Enter the $100K Baller football contest. $10 to enter and $10K to 1st place]
Blake Schuster It’s time Terrelle Pryor gets out of Washington. The wide receiver was barely seen during Monday night’s loss to Philadelphia and doesn’t seem to fit in at all with that offense. He’s tallied just 18 receptions for 223 yards and one touchdown on the year. Which is pretty shocking because his talent shouldn’t be in doubt at this point. Anyone who can look good playing in Cleveland is certainly worth taking a chance on. Washington doesn’t utilize him well. Surely other teams can.
Anthony Sulla-Heffinger I’ll stick in the desert and go with Larry Fitzgerald. Fitz has once again balled out this season despite being 34 years old and in his 14th year in the league. Carson Palmer’s injury combined with an improved Rams team gives Arizona little shot at the playoffs and I think I speak for everyone in football when I say we want to see Fitz get a ring. Send him to Pittsburgh for Martavis Bryant, everyone wins.
Tumblr media
Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are trying to figure out what to do with Martavis Bryant. We have ideas. (AP)
2. Mediocrity Survivor! Several teams (Texans, Broncos, Lions, Cowboys, and Falcons) are 3-3. If you were going to pick one of these to ride the distance, who’s got the best chance of going the farthest, and why?
I’m going with the Cowboys. I know a lot is up in the air with Ezekiel Elliott, and I know his possible suspension remains a big, dark cloud hanging over Dallas. But the offensive line is rounding into form and Dak Prescott has quietly put together a very solid season. Are there still concerns about the defense? Sure. But I have enough confidence in Prescott and his weapons surrounding one of the NFL’s best lines, and when Zeke returns (or if he even has to return), this should be one of the most balanced attacks in the league. –Pereles
I should know better than to pick the Lions, right? But the fact that they’ve remained one of the healthier teams in their division, and they have the last bonafide quarterback standing in the NFC North, makes me believe the playoffs aren’t out of reach. Plus their remaining non-division schedule features the Browns, Bengals, Ravens and Buccaneers. And somehow I already regret this decision. –Schuster
Give me the Texans. I’m fully on board the Deshaun Watson hype train and with the return of Duane Brown, Houston’s offense should get even better. They’re in the most winnable division out of any of these teams and appear to have a stable, starting caliber QB for the first time in the Bill O’Brien era. –Sulla
I’d still say the Falcons. The talent is just too much to deny.  They haven’t played well yet, but maybe things click with a new offensive coordinator in a winnable division. I might have said the Cowboys, but there’s just too much uncertainty with Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension. Though, on Sunday they finally looked like last season’s team. –Schwab
Hmmm…so much mediocrity. I know there’s a long history of Super Bowl losing teams gagging the next season (hello, 2016 Panthers), and they looked turrible (not terrible, Charles Barkley turrible) against New England on Sunday night. But of those six, I believe most in the Falcons. Steve Sarkisian’s stale offense needs an injection of creativity, but there’s a lot of talent there, too much to go 8-8. You’d think. –Young
Sure, it seems bleak for the Atlanta Falcons, but they still beat Green Bay (with Rodgers) and their division is very winnable. They have too much talent not to right the ship and win a playoff game or two. Just don’t let them relocate to the AFC East. –Velaski
I can’t get enough of Deshaun Watson, so I will roll with the Houston Texans. His 15 passing touchdowns are tied for second in the league with Tom Brady and Alex Smith, and he’s becoming more and more of a threat with his legs. Watson has single-handedly revitalized DeAndre Hopkins career too, and now with Duane Brown returning, he will have more time to throw the ball. Assuming the defense plays well, the Texans have a shot to not only make the playoffs, but scare some people along the way. –Schultz

Auburn’s offense was once again explosive and the defense smothering.
I love beating Dan Mullen. I especially love beating him by 39 points a year after beating him by 24. The Tigers have outscored Mississippi State 87-24 over the past two seasons. That makes me happy. Why? Because I am one of those conspiracy theorist barners who believe Mullen played a very large role in some of the garbage that got leaked out during the Cam Newton scandal. True or not, I will always enjoy beating him.
Personal grudges aside, Saturday was also fun because this Auburn team continues to improve. Mississippi State is not a bad football team. In fact, they just might be the #3 team in the SEC West and they are going to win a lot more games than they lose moving forward. But it was clear they were not in the same class as this Auburn team. After a slow start, Auburn has begun building some serious momentum and looking stronger and stronger each week. There’s still plenty of football to be played but the Tigers are moving in the right direction.
Explosive Offense
I don’t know if I would call Auburn’s offense efficient Saturday. They weren’t chewing up yardage and piecing together first down after first down. In fact, Mississippi State had more first downs than Auburn (18-14) and ran WAY more plays (84-56) while being out gained by 160 yards and outscored by 39. How? Because if you aren’t going to be efficient, you better be explosive and Auburn’s offense was TNT Saturday night.
On 49 of Auburn’s total plays they gained 150 yards. That’s 3.1 yards per play which is ok. The other 7 plays? 361 yards!
1st & 10 - 59 yd run by Kerryon Johnson
3rd & 2 - 49 yd pass to Darius Slayton
1st & 10 - 47 yd TD pass to Will Hastings
1st & 10 - 57 yd pass to Eli Stove
3rd & 3 - 30 yd run by Eli Stove
3rd & 3 - 52 yd pass to Kyle Davis
3rd & 1 - 67 yd TD run by Malik Willis
On every drive that Auburn had a play go for over 20 yards, they ended up scoring a touchdown. After watching last year’s offense methodically move up the field but get bogged down at times in the redzone, this new explosiveness is very much welcomed.
What was really interesting is WHEN these explosive plays happened. It was either on 1st & 10 or 3rd & short. Over the past couple of seasons it’s been pretty easy to know what exactly Auburn was going to do in these situations, run the ball. Saturday, Chip Lindsey blew up all those preconceived notions. Let’s look at those aggressive 3rd & short calls (sans TD, we will talk about that one later) that helped lead to touchdowns for this Auburn offense.
Talk about breaking a tendency... AU goes super aggressive on 3rd & short. Not easy nor perfect throw but works http://bit.ly/2hMKji6
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
After the game, Gus Malzahn said they were looking for a Cover 0 look before dialing up this play. They got the look they wanted and the result as well. So far this season, 3rd & short has typically meant Auburn gets in the Wildcat, runs power and KJ finds enough room to get a 1st down. State expected that, I expected that and I am sure everyone in the stadium expected that but Auburn had something else dialed up. KJ gives it to Ryan Davis on the speed sweep who promptly tosses it back to Jarrett Stidham. By this time, Darius Slayton has blown by State’s secondary (seriously watch State’s safeties, they were completely fooled) and is wide open for the big play. Stidham under throws this pass but I will give him a bit of a break as QBs typically aren’t throwing 50+ yd passes after catching a toss back on a double reverse pass out of the Wildcat. A great job by Slayton hauling this one in and Auburn was in business.
Outstanding blocks by Smith, Cox & NCM on this play. Another aggressive 3rd & short playcall by Lindsey http://bit.ly/2fRNggV
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
After a 57 yd pass out of the endzone to Eli Stove gets the Tigers in better field position, Auburn finds themselves facing another 3rd & short. Auburn is in that unbalanced look again and Stidham heads under center. Stidham hands it off to Stove on the speed sweep who gets great blocking on the edge from Braden Smith, Nate Craig-Myers and Chander Cox. From there, Stove does the rest for the big pickup.
3rd & short again. AU again attacks. Might be Stidham's prettiest pass to date http://bit.ly/2hMKjP8
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
Finally, facing another 3rd & short in the 4th quarter, the Tigers go attack mode again. Typically with this look, Kyle Davis is lined up front to take on the CB as a blocker while Ryan Davis is stacked behind for the quick screen (AU scored on that type of player as we will see later). However, on this call Kyle Davis is stacked behind Ryan Davis. Ryan Davis has been Stidham’s favorite target to date and on this play draws both of the State defenders when attempting a quick slant route. That leaves Kyle Davis wide open on the fade route and Stidham hits him in stride. This play went against two tendencies:
1.) Auburn usually runs the ball on 3rd & short
2.) If Auburn passes the ball on 3rd & short it’s usually a quick pass to someone like Ryan Davis or Will Hastings.
Over the last two weeks, Lindsey has used Auburn’s past to whoop defenses in the present. Continuing to keep defenses off balanced and confused is crucial for this offense moving forward.
Elite Defense
Let’s just get this out on the table. Auburn’s defense is elite. It’s taken some time but I think those outside of Auburn, Alabama are starting to understand that fact. Only Auburn’s defense has not allowed more than 14 pts this season. They are still #1 in “Finishing Drives” meaning they give up the fewest amount of points per opponent’s trip inside the 40. They are ranked #5 overall according to S&P+ and are only allowing 13.8 points per game, good for 8th overall. Top to bottom, this is one of the best units Auburn has put on the field in some time. Each level of the defense is loaded with playmakers.
Watch the subtle move Holland gives OG to dodge the punch. Outstanding body control and finishes play #SenseiMud http://bit.ly/2hMKkma
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
Holland continued his fast start Saturday bumping his sack total to 3.5 on the year. There could have been plenty more Saturday but give credit to Nick Fitzgerald, he was outstanding at getting the ball out before the pass rush arrived. However, it was only a matter of time before Sensei Mud got to the State QB. On this play, Dan Mullen’s squad tried the ole “pull a guard to block a speed rusher” trick that Auburn used with such great success last season against Clemson and LSU. Mississippi State ended up getting the same result as Auburn had previously as Holland made a nifty little move to dodge the punch of the pulling guard and get to Fitzgerald. Holland is quickly becoming one of the strongest forces off the edge in the SEC this year. Also, it was nice to be on the other end of this play this time.
This is a ridiculous play by Darrell Williams. Should be easy TD but Williams makes perfect tackle http://bit.ly/2hLObQo
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
One of my favorite plays of the game happened late in the second quarter. Mississippi State drove all the way to the one foot line and looked like they were about to march right in. Darrell Williams had other plans. Fitzgerald decides to keep it and looks to have an easy score. His TE is pulling around and looks like he’s going to square up Williams. Instead, Williams sees the puller and that Fitz is keeping the ball and attacks before he can be blocked. Williams makes about as perfect a tackle you can make a on 6’4” 220 lb+ QB barreling towards the endzone and stops him short of the goal line.
Outstanding play from Dinson. Fights off block from TE and makes the tackle. He's been a force at the nickel spot http://bit.ly/2fRNkNH
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
Finally, Auburn’s secondary had a standout performance defending 12 passes and coming down with 2 interceptions, one going for a touchdown. What stands out about this group is the combination of speed and physicality. They close fast and don’t often miss tackles in the open field. The above being a great example.
Jeremiah Dinson reads run and steps up to set the edge. However, State’s tight end kicks out and looks to be in perfect position to block Dinson. Not so fast... Dinson does a great job fighting off the block by dodging the initial punch and using his own hands to get separation. After that, he rips Fitz down in the open field turning what should have been a decent gain into nothing. This defense is so much fun to watch.
Touchdown Auburn
Once again, we have plenty of Auburn touchdowns to breakdown and dissect. This week, the defense makes the list and there’s even gasp a touchdown pass in the redzone. Scoring points is fun, keep doing it Auburn.
Better angle. Dunn the star of this play. Had a very good game Saturday night http://bit.ly/2fRZvtQ
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
The Tigers first TD comes from an unbalanced look they love to trot out in short yardage situations. Prince Tega Wanogho (#98) checks in at LT while Austin Golson flips over to the right and Braden Smith moves outside. Auburn runs power to the strong side, something they typically have done from this formation. The motion pulls the linebacker out of the backside B-gap, while Casey Dunn seals his man off and Tega takes the safety. Great vision by KJ to see that hole pop open and make the cutback for the score.
This time Stidham takes advantage of cushion up top. Great block by KD. Ryan Davis finishes the play http://bit.ly/2fRNlkJ
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
This is a run pass option. Auburn is running split zone and a quick screen up top. They ran this same concept the first time they entered the redzone but Stidham gave it and it got stuffed. This time though, he pulls it and gets the ball out quickly to Ryan Davis. Kyle Davis does an excellent job blocking on the perimeter allowing R. Davis to use his quickness to get to the pylon. TD passes in the redzone, what is the dark magic?
Watch Stidham's eyes. Looks left first which brings other safety away from MOF. Then comes back to Hastings for TD http://bit.ly/2fQs4bi
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
This is how a 5'9" WR is averaging 20+ ypc. Insane quickness http://bit.ly/2hMKnOS
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
I included two angles on this TD play because how could you not? Auburn gets the ball back in great field position so Chip Lindsey decides to take a shot. This is an interesting look they ran a few times where Chander Cox and Jalen Harris line up behind Kyle Davis and Will Hastings. Both Harris and Cox run quick outs while Hastings and Davis run deeper routes. Later in the game, Stidham hits Cox on the quick out for a nice pickup, something to watch moving forward.
Dropping back, Stidham looks to the left which moves the strongside safety away from the hashes. He then comes back to Will Hastings who embarrasses the free safety with a quick fake and hits Hastings on the wide open post route for a TD. I love everything about this play from the design, to the blocking, to the route running and of course the throw itself.
AU goes unbalanced & runs power from under center. Enough of a hole opens for KJ to get the TD http://bit.ly/2hPoyyb
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) October 3, 2017
Braden Smith taking his man on a walk. Not a great job by James but good enough http://bit.ly/2fRCmIa

Two straight non Kerryon Johnson touchdowns is just wrong. So KJ rights that wrong on Auburn’s first drive of the 3rd quarter. Auburn is unbalanced once again and they are once again running power, this time with Stidham under center. Both Austin Golson and Braden Smith do a great job driving their men out of the play while Horton pulls around and cleans up the last defender. Very physical run by Johnson earns the Tigers 6 more points.
Power out of unbalanced look. KJ is a TD machine http://bit.ly/2fQHlZx

Look familiar? Auburn running power out of an unbalanced front. Big props to Wanogho, Dunn and James on this play. Tega seals the backside DT while Dunn and James reach the middle linebacker. Johnson surges over the top for his EIGTH touchdown in two games. Stop hogging all the points Kerryon.
Love how chill Steele is during this whole play. Love that D finally converted on scoring opportunity http://bit.ly/2hMKWZ0

The very next possession, disaster strikes for Mississippi State’s offense. This was a fail all around for State and Auburn just took advantage. The Dawgs motion into trips and run a rub route. Fitz has a wide open man but the throw is off target. However, the pass is still very catchable but instead careens off the wideout’s hands and into Javaris Davis’s. There’s only green space and teammates in front of Davis who races in for the score. After watching some missed pick 6 opportunities over the past few years, it was nice to see the defense convert on the opportunity.
Great read by Willis and man he turns corner quickly. Future is bright at QB http://bit.ly/2hMmt6o

Finally, Auburn brought on the backups and reserves to just run out the clock. They had different plans. Auburn is running everyone’s favorite read option play with Noah Igbinoghene motioning across the formation. The speed sweep draws one defender but it being 3rd & 1, State’s defense collapses inside expecting Willis to give the ball. However, Nick Mar... I mean Malik Willis pulls the ball and gets outside in a hurry. A perfectly timed stiff arm disposes of the one real threat and launches Willis into the open field. The speedy freshman then beats the last few State defenders to the endzone for his first career touchdowns. I highly doubt it’s his last in orange and blue.
Mr October
Gus Malzahn’s favorite month has arrived. As head coach at Auburn, Malzahn has compiled a 12-3 record in the month of October good for an 80% win percentage. That’s better than his 14-4 (78%) record in September and his frustrating 11-6 (65%) record in November. Long story short, it takes Malzahn a few weeks to figure out what he’s got but once he does, he starts rattling off wins.
Auburn has a tough road ahead of them even if the schedule doesn’t look as daunting as it did preseason. Ole Miss, LSU, Arkansas and Texas A&M have all struggled out the gates in varying forms this season but they still have talent. Any of those teams are capable of knocking the Tigers off if they don’t show up ready to play. The Tigers should be sitting at 8-1 heading into the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry but that’s far from a given. Over the next few weeks we will find out if this team is just good or capable of contending for an SEC title and more.
