Luxury Beliefs: The Cost of Moral Superiority
Luxury beliefs are the designer handbags of the intellectual world: expensive, exclusive, and often completely impractical for everyday life. They're the ideas embraced by those with privilege, intended to showcase moral superiority but often detrimental to those less fortunate.
Think about it: how many times have you heard someone from a comfortable background preach about the importance of "authenticity" while sipping their overpriced artisanal coffee? Or how often have you seen someone champion "radical self-care" while ignoring the systemic issues that prevent others from accessing basic necessities?
These luxury beliefs are often rooted in a deep-seated misunderstanding of the world. They allow people to feel good about themselves without actually doing anything to help others. In fact, they can often create additional barriers for marginalized communities. For example, the focus on "mindfulness" and "wellness" can be seen as elitist and inaccessible to those struggling with poverty or trauma.
It’s also worth noting how the digital age has amplified the trend of luxury beliefs. With social media, it’s easier than ever to perform acts of virtue signaling without actually committing to meaningful change. By sharing a carefully curated image or a thought-provoking quote, individuals can position themselves as morally superior without facing the consequences of their actions or the complexities of real-world problems.
It's time to call out these luxury beliefs for what they are: empty rhetoric that serves to reinforce existing power structures. Let's focus on actions that create tangible change, rather than simply making ourselves feel better.

I'm gonna get backlash for this but,
I find this website funny sometimes because as much as you guys want to teach, to help learn, to help grow, against racism, sexism, homophobia, etc, you guys never actually let people grow. Someone does something 10 years ago, they apologize (properly and with meaning and you can see it), they grow to be a better person and you guys continue to rag on them for the person they used to be, its disgusting. You hang their past mistakes over their heads like an anvil. You demonize people for their past without taking into account their present.
So, point is, ya'll need to grow too. Become better teachers. And honestly, I believe in you guys, I believe you can change for the better.

I’ve seen good movements and social justice spaces implode. Being woke doesn’t make you special! Do you agree? I wrote this from my own personal experiences with people I thought I could trust. Some people use their knowledge to condescend and degrade other people. Some people abuse community spaces and collectives to amp up their own egos. It’s destructive and brings no good to the movement. Poem Title: Calling In The Call Out Culture Author: Eric Eztli Audio: Michael Becerra (SGV FILM WORKS). After an interaction I had on Instagram tonight, I am going to try and be the change. I am not just going to call out any type of bias/discrimination/ignorance. I am also going to try and understand, to be open learning, to be open for deep discussion but most of all to try and find a #teachablemoment #Repost @guerrillafeminism with @get_repost ・・・ 2) #unpopularopinion #feminism #calloutculture #bethechange

@stgibsonofficial swung by the blog to drop a guest post about observing a social-media free solstice, navigating self care online in the age of #calloutculture, and seeking out divine noise in daily life. It’s a must read for anyone who’s ever considered taking a step back from social.
