Steam Awards silliness

So apparently the "Steam Awards", which is a thing you may have seen and been very confused about, were a bit of a mess.

Steam basically wanted a to make their own Game Awards which were a voting-directly democratic process.

Naturally people took advantage of this to DUNK on their most hated game developers, rather than throwing a bone to games they actually like.

So, what happened was:

Red Dead Redemption 2 was ironically voted "Best Long-term Support From A Developer" because of how salty the community is about the game NOT recieving any long-term support.

Starfield was ironically voted for "Most Innovative Gameplay". Actual Starfield fans ALSO voted for Starfield in this and all other categories. And Bethesda happily accepted the award despite it being, yknow, a prank.

Hogwarts Legacy was voted "Best on Deck", despite being almost unplayable on deck. After some investigation I have learnt this is because Hogwarts Legacy fans mass-voted their game in every single category, regardless of its efficacy, because they think it is "overhated because of woke gay culture". Steamdeck happened to be the only one not to have had a mass vote for a different game. After those encounters, I am now adding Hogwarts Legacy onto my very small list of "things I will avoid associating with you over if you are into".

People are not sure if The Last Of Us Part 1 really does have "best soundtrack" or if everyone voted for it ironically. I'd say if it was Last of Us Part 2, it'd be ironic, but honestly it's gotta be Naughty Dog fans.

Valve had to act like every one of these was a serious nomination when writing up the reasons for them winning. They couldn't just say "Red Dead Redemption 2 support SUCKS SO MUCH that players voted for it ironically". They had to say "Despite the game being out for years the devs are still supporting their baby". Which is hilarious.

So, anyone who knows me knows I am a HUGE Baizhu lover. I don't get majorly defensive over many fictional characters, but I'll go to war over Baizhu because fandom was wrongly terrible to him from the moment his character first debuted ( calling him a p*do, calling him corrupt, calling him ugly, etc, when his CANON story explicitly states he is one of the purest, kindest people to date ). Flashback to his debut banner, where Kaveh was also featured for the first time, and the hatred for Baizhu escalated SO much to the point I felt like I was going insane just for loving him. It's like they couldn't just be quiet and pull for Kaveh without throwing in an insult or two about how they ' didn't care about Baizhu ' or ' this banner only matters because of Kaveh, ' after Baizhu wanters had been waiting for literal years for him.

I don't hate the character. He reminds me of Howl Pendragon, appearance wise, and is relatively well written. But the way fandom cherishes/worships him like a god and were so swift in putting down MY favorite character just... turns me off so much. Granted, G.I's fandom has a TON of faults and this isn't the first time they've done this ( and it won't be the last, I'm sure ), but... yeah. Just... sorry to the Kaveh lovers. The GOOD ones, at least.

There are numerous ways. But the most surefire is calling out my friends, or being generally disrespectful and mean. I've seen it before, we've all seen it before. It's not acceptable on my turf. I don't even care what the reason is; if someone's being unpleasant, I don't want them around. I'm too old to deal with RP drama.

♥ What's the WORST thing that has happened to you rp wise?

I know this is not a subject too widely accepted, but I also refuse to diminish from the weight it held on me even if it goes against the perceived wider opinion. It's no secret that Tumblr is home to many LGBTQ+ writers and users. I don't happen to be in that group, although I do very much support anyone doing whatever they want. I, am a straight, white man. And much like the reverse can happen, I've suffered Heterophobia and the cancellation of its very concept before. To me, if you can't admit that this is a thing, especially because I've been on its receiving end, you're ignoring a real problem to justify some glorified, flawed ideal. It's blatantly disrespectful, since if it was Homophobia or Transphobia, all hell would break loose.

Again, niche. But still an issue that I went through.

Roleplaying in second person POV. I don't even mind first person POV, and the widely-accepted third person POV I'm obviously cool with. But second person POV RP just makes me cringe and, I can't even write with that. It's that bad. xD

Not so much 'someone' as much as 'everyone' did.

I cannot, for the life of me, look at any Hirunaka no Ryuusei and/or Horimiya FCs and not just get disheartened.

Look, I get it. The art is beautiful and the characters are too, on top of holding good emotional weight with the franchise's readers. But for the love of god -- those faces and appearances have to be the most basic-looking manga people I have ever seen. Ever.

In the context of super-powered fantasy series, I just... Can't really accept that this nobody-looking bunch is supposed to be on the same level as, or higher than, a majority of the canon cast. They just look so... Bland. Like "I'm sorry but I've seen that face at least a million times now." Suspension of disbelief only goes so far -- and I can no longer accept that Daiki Mamura, is a pyrokinetic, expert assassin that's 6'4" in the world of One Piece. Like... That's just unexceptional in the context of the world.

It doesn't mean I won't RP with OCs with those faceclaims, of course. I'm just, really biased and starting off as uninterested, at this point.

❣ How salty are you feeling right now? (1) I can't believe Youtube is playing a song called 'Do or Die' as I'm typing this up. Youtube wants me to go hard, but I dunno how much I can live up to that. But currently, salt levels are around 7/10.

This plays into numerous elements of social interaction, but more so than anything, it plays into the element of taking away someone's autonomy to how they run their blog. See, this is actually also something that more so makes it that I'll never follow you in the first place, but I guess that'll also work as salt too, right? Right, autonomy, I hate that we live in 2024, and people have been all about "it's your blog, you have the freedom to do what you want!" Yeah, except, ding, ding, 'do what you want' doesn't quite mean what we all think it does. You know, that little thing called its official definition? Yeah, not a thing. Have your liberty, however, you can't write with this person or that muse because they're problematic (correction: this person 'feels' that they're problematic) or have done some questionably morally grey things in their lifetime, you can't write a character with any of these 375 faceclaims that you're supposed to keep track of and agree with, if you write a villain then you should obviously ignore all of these villainous traits that make them villains because why would you ever write a villain who does bad things? (Unless he's hot or said villain is a female character, of course), on that note, please ignore this and this bit of canon because it makes me (personally) very uncomfortable. And to expand on the last two in specific, obviously you can't ever write or acknowledge these (dark) things any way, because if you write a character who even did something less bad, like spoke rudely to anyone, you obviously do the same thing in life outside of Tumblr.com and so I will write a callout about you. But apart from all of that and more things that are coincidentally hidden behind a little 'etc.', you can do whatever you want! Have fun!!

☼ How long do you stay mad? Unless it's something really trivial, I'll usually sleep and my brain will process it back into non-existence the next day or the one after. But I do however, hold a grudge like none other. Granted, getting to that point is rather difficult to do, but if you do genuinely wrong me in some capacity, then I will remember that. Now, I believe in second chances, but those can't apply everywhere, for I do firmly believe that there are lines that truly shouldn't ever be crossed. Overall however, I'm not an angry person and to anger me in the first place is quite difficult. And you know, you especially do like to say that even when I'm angry, I'm smiling and laughing and 'don't really sound any different', so how mad/angry am I really? I think I really am just the 'No talk me I angy' cat meme in the flesh.

☢ What fads/trends are you so over? I still hate the concept of 'censorship'. I'm sorry, but if I dislike a character, a culture, a character trait, a show, book, an adaptation, I have every right to say so and I can even talk about it on my blog for hours if I so choose to do so, just like others are allowed to do the exact opposite. It is a two-way street. I shouldn't have to adhere to some system of social politics of, well, you're allowed to complain or talk about how this and this is bad, but if you want to touch on that, well no, we can't quite let you do that one! That's not exactly fitting in the current social political climate. Because here's my thing with it in general, if anyone for example told me that they disliked Yelan, I think that it would be a shame, if someone told me that, for example, they disapprove of my take of her sleeping around (again: not done in promiscuity); that's perfectly fine, tell me why and we can have a friendly talk about it. Because last I checked, discussion is incredibly healthy for our mental development. I want to know why people think differently, and I love the challenge of even possibly changing their perspective on the matter. But if everything is censored from the get-go, then there's no discussion, no potential for growth or understanding. I'm sad that this mere concept is still as prevalent in all fandoms as it seems to be.

Overall: Naela stands at 5'5" (1.65 m). Like the typical Westerosi noblewoman, she has a healthy frame. However, as she gets older, the toned muscles she gains from her sword-fighting lessons become a little more evident. Visually, Naela takes after her mother, inheriting the indigo irises that she made famous in her youth, as well as her skin tone and facial features. Somehow, Naela managed to get her dark, wavy hair from her grandparents. She wears it in a braided updo for formal occasions, but she prefers to wear it free, where it rests just below her shoulders. Clothes: she wears dark shades of layered fabrics, which is the common style for women in Winterfell. Due to the weather, her people dress more for warmth and comfort than for aesthetics. When given the opportunity to travel south, she'll opt for dresses in deep purples and blues.

BACKGROUND

Naela was born in Winterfell to her parents, Eddard "Ned" Stark, and Ashara Dayne, who had met at the Tourney of Harrenhal the year before. She ended up being the first of their two children, as her sister Arya would be born five years later. She had a happy childhood. Her parents were always receptive to her excited ramblings--not to mention her discovery of her queer identity, which was usually looked down upon by those who followed the Faith of the Seven. It probably helped that her father had grown up adoring his younger sister, Lyanna (Naela's favorite of his siblings), and her mother was from Dorne, the most progressive of the Westerosi regions. Naela's cousins (Robb, Sansa, Bran, and Rickon) played with her as much as Arya did. Naela especially liked to fist-fight with the boys when her Aunt Catelyn and the septas (who disapproved of her "unladylike behavior") weren't looking. Eventually, Naela would ask her parents for a sword, which she was gifted on her fourteenth birthday. She named it Nightfall, and she secretly used it to train in the event that her uncle, Ser Arthur Dayne, chose to pass down the ancestral sword of his house, letting her become the next Sword of the Morning. The only "present" she's ever loved as much as her sword is her direwolf, which she named Moony.

PERSONALITY

Overall: she's well known for being the figurative sun in the snowy North. Naela is a ball of energy, always loving to run around the lands of her uncle (King Rickard Stark) on the adventures she and her younger sister plan. It's rare that she's ever truly still or sad. The exceptions to this are when she's learning about tales of courtly love and/or great warriors from her parents (which keeps her still) or when she's longing for a real adventure of her own (which deeply worries her). She's a hopeless romantic at heart, partly due to the fact that her parents fell in love at first sight. This quality ties into her main weakness--her naivety. Though she is admirably loyal and true, Naela is often warned that her heart will be her undoing if someone with ill intentions tries to lead her astray.

♦ What was a mildly annoying thing that has happened to you rp wise? It's happened a few times but I always make a point of sending an IM to be like "hey hi thanks for following me" because I am always grateful when someone decides I'm worth following. However, so many times I've been like "hey you wanna plot?" only to be ghosted forevermore. Like...what is the actual point of following me then if you're just going to ignore me trying to reach out? Might as well not have bothered then. Being ghosted in general is annoying but it's more annoying when they do it without even giving me a chance to try.

✿ What do you think about public call out posts? Most of the time they're not worth the time it takes to read them. Like, most of them are some petty fandom bullshit escalated to be on par with war crimes because someone was salty enough to type a Google Doc or a post. You will occasionally get the one where there is some serious shit but it's like the old rule about finding good fanfic: you have to wade through 99% of shit for that 1% that's actually worth your time.

✖ How has Tumblr RP changed since you started? Let me count the ways...

I started RPing on Tumblr in 2012 (Jesus, I feel old). Post cutting was non-existent, etiquette on ask reblogging was being litigated, exclusivity wasn't a thing, people sometimes just reblogged single sentence replies, memes were a free for all on reblogging...Honestly, it feels like a completely different era now. Like, it wasn't THAT long ago and yet Tumblr's RPC feels like it's completely changed.

♒ Thoughts on the fandom you're currently rping in? So far I'm incredibly happy with the DA fandom. I honestly feel like of all the fandoms I've RPed in over the years they have been the most welcoming with the BG3 fandom being in close second. People like actually give me the time of day which is nice. I've met some really great people with amazing characters both canon and OC. I feel like I'd be very happy staying right where I am.

'Forced interaction'? Might be the first time I've heard of it being called that. That sounds like something someone who claims we have to start calling Germans 'Gerpeople' might call it. Like they swung the other way so much they circled the whole Earth and kicked themselves in the arse.

I practice happy middle. Sometimes a meme doesn't make sense for the muses and that's fair but sometimes it's clear someone got the meme from me and if they send nothing despite it being reasonable for our characters it might send a 'okay, you do not want to interact with me' message.

Was it the intent? Probably not. Does the monster at the back of my head care? Not really.

I don't think so. Or at least I can't think of any.

Tumblr ruined a ship for me. Does it count? I came in with a 'I don't care about this ship' attitude, but the overflow of pics of it on my dash ruined it for me. I still don't like it, a decade or so later.

Fun fact is that my first anon hate was after I wrote I now dislike this ship but I wasn't aware at the time that tumblr puts posts with ship names in the body and not tags in the ship tag search. Not that it excuses the anon, but hey, I would be annoyed if I searched for a tag of a ship I like and the first post in there was a dis that someone dislikes it too.
