Story idea I've been spinning round in my head for a few weeks now, inspired by Adventure Time and the Powerpuff Girls:
Deleri Lectus, robotics and tech genius, defends the world and her home city of Megalopolis alongside her ancient automaton dad and her elementally-powered sisters. Thanks to their efforts the people of the world can live in peace and safety.
One day, during a routine superhero battle against a minor villain, Deleri is knocked out. Then she wakes up somewhere else.
It's the same city, but something is very wrong. The streets are dilapidated, the sky is full of smog and ominous purple lights, and robotic enforcers patrol the streets.
This city is a dystopia ruled by none other than Deleri's younger sisters. But in this universe they're not her sisters, because in this universe, Deleri doesn't exist.
She confronts the dictator versions of her sisters, finds the deactivated and damaged body of her robodad and takes off with him, running away from her sisters' agents who consider her knowledge and opposition to their regime a threat.
Now Deleri is on a quest to understand what happened to this timeline, and how she can help fix it. And if possible, how to get back home.
Some more details:
Deleri wears a type of powered suit similar to Iron Man. Her appearance is basically "Cthulhu as a teenage girl" with green skin, tentacles for hair, and bat wings.
Her sisters are called Tourmaline and Pyrope. Tourmaline has fire powers and Pyrope has water powers.
In her original timeline, Deleri and Pyrope helped their sister avoid the temptation of using a dark fire that gave her enhanced powers but corrupted her. In this timeline Tourmaline still has the dark fire.
Deleri gets around in a cool airship which she constantly modifies and upgrade.
She gathers a small found family of friends and allies to help her in her mission(s). The first of which is Snowfall, AKA Snowfy. A snow elemental who ran away from home in the Weather Kingdom. She quickly becomes Deleri's girlfriend.
Deleri's robot dad is so ancient that nobody knows how to make the fuel that powers him and he has to conserve it
In Deleri's timeline, her dad was in sleep mode for centuries when a strange woman placed baby Deleri in his arms and then ran off, never to be seen again. He tried to find Deleri's parents but eventually decided to adopt her himself.
In this timeline Robodad expended all of his fuel to protect Pryope and Tourmaline against a powerful enemy. That's why he's deactivated now. This event led to the sisters eventually becoming dictators.

The second half of the Q&A interview with Tiny Table about Eureka is now up on Tiny Table's Patreon! You can subscribe to listen to it, or unlock it with a one-time purchase! You can also buy the music you heard in Tiny Table's Eureka playthrough for one-time purchase! (but dont do any of this through the patreon app because then there's an extra charge)
Here are the questions from this second half of the interview
After Eureka’s release has concluded, our next game is Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition. We want to compare two investigative games with fantastical elements back to back. What TTRPGs and other games would you want a listener to play to gain more insight into Eureka and its ethos?
2. What are some of the big changes to the design of Eureka since its early days? What are the earliest elements of design that still persist to the current version?
3. You remarked to us that our character’s decision to play the FORIVA cabinet themselves to learn the full effects was an approach that hadn’t been taken during any other playtests. What are some interesting character choices you’ve seen in your other test games of FORIVA?
4. Once a narrator for Eureka has gotten their feet wet and familiarized themselves with the system, we imagine many will want to create mysteries of their own. What tips and recommendations do you have for home narrators to create their own scenarios? Are there major differences to keep in mind between making a scenario to be played by many, as you all have with FORIVA, and a scenario that will be played only once?
5. And finally, tell us more about The Thing from Beyond! Unlike the other monster characters, the Thing from Beyond seems wholly original and we love it! Who came up with it? What iterations has it gone through?
6. A more thorough discussion of Selene, the villain from the FORIVA module.

꒦‧₊ ꒷ HEADCANNONS: Kenny, Kyle, Stan, and Butters saving you as superheroes/villains when you're in danger! ✧.*
✧.* tags: college au, superhero au ✧.* Characters: kenny mccormick, kyle broflovski, stan marsh, butters scotch a/n: another amazing anon request! i always love the suggestions and they lead to such fun scenarios (and ways to zone out during class lol)
masterlist
Kenny/Mysterion:
Literally the scene from the beginning of Megamind where they’re in the observatory
Except he bursts in and saves you
You were just trying to get footage of mysterion’s press conference then suddenly you’re tied up in the storage unit- sorry, the LAIR OF CHAOS
(he gets sad when you don’t call it that)
“Ah mysterion! It is I, your greatest foe-”
“I wouldn’t say greatest”
“Professor chaos- wait what?”
“I’m just saying I've literally fought cthulhu. He’s probably the greatest”
“Well, Cthulhu was an eldritch horror ! He doesn't count!”
“Yes he does”
“No he doesn't!”
“Yes he does!”
“No he doesn't-”
“Guys I really got to piss, can we speed this up?”
Mysterion shows up a few minutes later but you don’t get ‘rescued’ for another 30 minutes because him and chaos kept arguing
He walks you home and says he’ll always be there to save you
But you know the same thing is going to happen next week
Kyle/Human Kite
You were at the park with kyle to visit the pet adoption fair being held by the south park animal shelter
But Professor Chaos had other plans.
Suddenly all of the animals were let out of their pens and were running through the park
It was the most adorable stampede to ever exist
You turned to tell ky that you guys had to help but he was gone?
The text he sent: “allergic to cats. Sorry.”
BRO WHAT??
You get absolutely DOG PILED
By actual dogs.
Chaos is evilly laughing while blowing a dog whistle while General Disarray points laser pointers at people’s feet
You were ready to give into your death by puppy
But you’re pulled out from the dog heap by human kite!
He flies??? Over to chaos and slaps the dog whistle out of his hands and starts lecturing him
You almost feel bad for the guy
But then again, there are cats running up trees and dogs running into the street so animal safety comes first
You help them take care of the animals
(and definitely end up adopting a furry friend :) )
Stan/Toolshed
Professor chaos has stuck you in a small cell surrounded by glass with a 2 hour timer ticking down towards an unknown demise
Usually it wouldn’t have been an issue for tool to grab a sledge hammer and take care of it
But the cell was made of impact proof glass
That didn’t stop Toolshed from trying to break through the glass for 30 minutes while professor chaos monologues from a tv screen in the corner
“HAHHAA! I bet you’re wondering how I managed to trap-”
WOMP
“You won’t be breaking through that glass anytime-”
WOMP
“H-Hey! Let me at least get through my-”
WOMP
“WELL GOSH DARN IT LET ME DO MY SPEECH FIRST!”
And the only way to unlock it was to complete an escape room and find a key
But professor chaos seems to have forgotten that stan loves complex board games
And what is an escape room if not a complex solo board game?
“You need to use the cipher from the map to decode the encyclopedia for the safe code!”
“Oh yeah, I’ll definitely do that. If I were an idiot.”
“Okay now you’re just being mean”
“It’s obvious that the map cipher is used for the chess board to give you the steps for the dance dance revolution machine!”
“...yeah totally. I definitely knew that’s how it works.”
He has you out in like 5 minutes
And you make a mental note to never play Settlers of Katan with him.
Butters/Professor Chaos
The freedom pals kidnapped you to try and get information out of you since you act as tech help for chaos
Well it was really just the coon
“I thought that kidnapping was a villain thing”
“Yeah because when a superhero does it, it’s taking a villain into custody”
“I really don’t see the logic there”
“WELL YOU DONT HAVE TO SO SHUT UP”
“I thought you wanted me to talk?”
“AHHHHH”
Really you were just giving cartman shit for a few hours
Until the basement suddenly fills with smoke!
Professor Chaos threw smoke bombs into a small enclosed basement (not a good idea-)
You both barely manage to get out while coughing through the smoke
But you do it!!
Yippie!!
Chaos insists on getting you ice cream as an apology for getting wrapped up in everything
“I mean, if I had to deal with that dickwad everyday, I’d want to cause chaos to piss him off too. I only was there for an hour and i never want to see him smile again”
You just became the coolest person ever to him

I read "Knight of the Black Rose" and its sequel before I had *any* idea whatsoever of what D&D (and Dragonlance or Ravenloft, for that matter) was, so it's no wonder I love Lord Soth and Strahd ever since then.
I actually followed Soth into Dragonlance from there, which I guess was my gateway into D&D much later on. My first RPG still was - obviously - Call of Cthulhu and the WoD/CofD happened soon after. The rest, including a certain Scion game that prompted me to write homebrew and...we can say led to places followed right next.
But yeah, a give a 13-year old nerdy goth teen a book whose premise is "Darth Vader VS Dracula" and you've got yourself a hooked fan for life.
(Note: me reading those books also is a reason why I'm not ok with 5e Dragonlance book downplaying the splendidly vile & tragic villain that is Lord Soth into a knight that "just happened to remarry very, very fast after his first wife died, because he was already in love with Isolde"
I *know* what that gothic villain of a knight did, and "hasty second marriage social faux-pas" ain't it)

For day 17 of the event, I used the word ‘hands’ from prompt 8 for Gokudera from Katekyo Hitman Reborn. I really enjoyed thinking about this one and I hope any fans of the series will enjoy these small headcanons 😊
What ‘fandoms’ would the character belong to?
I’ve mentioned it in previous posts, but I really do believe that Gokudera is someone who is really into horror movies. While he loves the genre as a whole, I do believe he has favourite series and horror movie villains. He’s a big Freddie Krueger fan, is a fan of the Exorcist movie, the Insidious series, and for horror-based television shows, he’s a huge fan of Stan Against Evil for sillier things and From, American Horror Story, and Channel Zero for more serious horror television.
I do think Gokudera is someone who would have gotten really into Supernatural. He’s not only watched the series in its entirety at least twice, but owns all the seasons, as well as some merch.
Let’s get clear one of my strongest fandom headcanons for this boy. Gokudera? Huge Dungeons & Dragons nerd. He loves everything about the game, the different worlds, and he’s always dreamed of doing a campaign. Even before he gets to, he has at least a half-dozen potential characters drafted up and figured out. I do like to headcanon him getting into a D&D group, consisting of various characters (most definitely including Byakuran, Shoichi, and Julie) during high school. However, it’s always been a dream of his to have a campaign with his fellow Guardians, but that isn’t something that happens for many years, not until Lambo is a teenager and better able to handle the game, though the poor Dungeon Master has a hard time re-explaining the rules and guidelines to Lambo every damn session.
Gokudera also gets into other tabletop rpg’s, such as Call of Cthulhu.
I do think that Gokudera would be a huge fan of MonsterQuest and Destination Truth. He’s really always going to enjoy any documentary series or movies based around cryptids, urban legends, and things of that ilk. He really enjoyed Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, for its stories and he’d always try to guess and would keep track on how many he guessed correctly.
I do think Gokudera gets into podcasts. He has several Dungeons & Dragons podcasts he listens to, like Critical Role and Dungeons & Daddies. He also really enjoys podcasts like Lore and Welcome to Nightvale, along with some horror-based podcasts.

Descendants Rewrite
I got so irked with the lazy naming conventions and lack of coherent worldbuilding in the Descendants franchise, so I took my Disney obsession and made this. Enjoy!
Villain Pairings
- Maleficent/Chernabog (less of a romantic pairing and more of a professional workplace relationship and power couple, they rule the island with an iron fist and plot to break the barrier)
- Evil Queen/Magic Mirror (Grimhilde brought him out in human form for one night to conceive a child with enough magic to rival Maleficent, the only one she saw as a threat to her status)
- Evil Queen/Hans (he wanted to be king, and his wife is beautiful to be sure, but she’s the one wearing the pants in this relationship, he’s the backstabbing boy toy)
- Cruella DeVille/Clayton (he hunts exotic animals, she turns them into stylish outerwear, they’re a surprisingly functional couple who own the Isle’s main clothing production company, it’s more like a sweat shop that employs the poorest children on the Isle)
- Hades/Mother Gothel (she works for him like Meg did but her deal keeps her eternally young and beautiful, plus they’re just similar people, and even gods get lonely sometimes)
- Yzma/Horned King (Yzma uses necromancy to bring Horned King out of the Black Cauldron, now they’re a bony power couple vying for control of the island)
- Gov. Ratcliffe/Queen of Hearts (he’s no stranger to kissing royal ass to gain favor and status, and she appreciates his flattery and his bloodthirsty ruthlessness)
- Claude Frollo/Lady Tremaine (they’re similarly horrible people, both French, need I say more?)
- Ursula/John Silver (these two are born schemers, liars, and cheats, John is just a bit more of a softy than Ursula)
- Scar/Sabor (they’re both big cats, they’re both evil, they both commit patricide to the protagonists, it’s kinda obvious)
- Shere Khan/Sabor (what can I say? Sabor gets around, she’s not the type to settle down)
- Madam Mim/Willie the Giant (both shapeshifters, both chaotic, messy couple)
- Dr. Facilier/Morgana (Call of Cthulhu vibes frame how these two met, Morgana supplies Facilier with magic from the mermaid world, and she can occasionally take on human form or make Facilier a merman, she’s his new friend from the other side)
- Captain Hook/Madame Medusa (both into hunting for treasure, both hate kids, but then one drunken night they sleep together and they panic. They abandon the kid to be raised by Mr. Smee)
Single Villains
- Jafar (I wanna have him steal Jasmine’s and Aladdin’s baby and raise it as his own to turn it against its parents)
- Drizella Tremaine (she’s ugly and ill tempered, and I’m out of young men villains)
- Gaston (he’d probably compete with Hans for the Evil Queen based solely on her beauty)
- Shan Yu (I’m out of female villains who aren’t weak and ugly. Plus I think he’d have a wife among the Huns, I can’t see him getting with any Disney villain.)
- Rourke (I can see him trying to pursue Gothel, but she’s tied down to Hades)
- Honest John (he’s a fox, not sure who I would pair him up with)
- Prince John (he’s a lion, not sure who I’d pair him up with)
Henchman Support Group
- Smee
- Snoops
- Gideon
- King of Hearts
- Jasper and Horace
- Kaa
- Sir Hiss
- Iago
- Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed
- Wiggins
- Pain and Panic
- Lawrence
- Le Fou
VKs
- Mal Faery (Antichrist-like, daughter of Maleficent with magical intervention of Chernabog)
- Dark Fairy powers like Maleficent, potential to get stronger like Chernabog, most powerful at night, can turn into a dragon but that’s a new power by the start of the story
- Eveline Grimhilde (daughter of the Evil Queen Grimhilde and the magic mirror entity, partly raised by Hans of the Southern Isles, goes by Evie)
- One of her powers is brief moments of omniscience, and she’s a little afraid of mirrors but doesn’t know why (it’s cuz she’s got a fear of being trapped)
- Jay Deja (son of Jasmine and Aladdin of Agrabah, stolen and raised by Jafar)
- Has instincts leading him to seek freedom and travel, but also has a complex about making his father proud, basically Rapunzel of Agrabah
- Carlo S’tan DeVille (son of Cruella DeVille and William Cecil Clayton, goes by Carlos, Jasper and Horace are terrible influence uncles)
- Parents barely give him the time of day, likes animals but hides it from parents and uncles, very good at sneaking around
- Uma Silver (daughter of Ursula Triton and Long John Silver, idolizes her mom but was mostly raised by John so she took after his pirate ways)
- Harry Hook (son of Captain James Hook and Madame Medusa, raised by Mr. Smee, has daddy/mommy issues so he’s constantly seeking approval from people who demean him, like Uma)
- Guinevere Gothel (daughter of Hades and Mother Gothel, goes by Ginny, crushing on Carlos, Pain and Panic get saddled with babysitting her a lot)
- Has very few powers from Hades but has lots of knowledge about dark magic and powerful entities like gods
- Dizzy Tremaine (daughter of Drizella Tremaine and an unknown man of the Isle, maybe Le Fou or Wiggins, her actual name is Daisy but she chooses to go by Dizzy for a bit more street cred)
- Her mom treats her similarly to how she treated Cinderella, teaching her at a young age how to cook, clean, and sew, and now relies on Dizzy for most household chores, feigning incompetence so Dizzy feels like she has to do everything herself.
- Celia Facilier (daughter of Dr. Facilier and Morgana, cousin of Uma, works at her dad’s shop, inherited her mom’s affinity for potions)
- Dr. Facilier sees things like it’s he and his daughter against the world, they have the potential to rule it all if they can get the right connections, and that puts a bit of undue pressure on Celia.
- Maddy Fadiddlehoffer (daughter of Madam Mim and Willie the Giant, adept shapeshifter and playful trickster)
- Heartly Crimms-Ratcliffe (daughter of John Ratcliffe and the Queen of Hearts, parents are divorced so she lives with her mother)
- Puts up with her mom’s temper and navigates her moods like her life depends on it, cuz it does. The King is hardly a help in this matter.
- The Bimbettes were so obsessed with Gaston that, when he’s banished to the Isle for his crimes, they willingly follow him. He’s had a son with each one of them, but none of the girls stuck around to raise the kids and now Gaston is a single dad of three strapping boys. Their names are Gerald, Giles, and Gaspard.
- Yzma and Horned King cannot have kids normaly, it’s just not possible with their biology, so they craft a homunculus to rival Mal and Evie, and they call him Churan, roughly meaning savior in Incan
Auradon Kids
- Benjamin “Ben” Beaumont (son of King Adam and Queen Belle of Auradon)
- Golden boy of Auradon Prep, his parents learned from Adam’s mistakes and raised a thoroughly good son.
- Audrey Rose (daughter of King Phillip and Queen Aurora of Auradon)
- Received gifts from Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather like her mother, but never faced hardship, never learned humility. Grew up a bit spoiled.
- Jane Fairchild (daughter of the Fairy Godmother to Cinderella)
- Being trained to become the next Fairy Godmother, but is also highly sheltered by her mother, which irks her because of how she doted on Cinderella and let her go to parties.
- Chadrick “Chad” Charming (son of Queen Cinderella and King Christopher “Kit” Charming)
- Parents never wanted their son to face hardship like Cinderella went through, but as a result Chad became spoiled and overconfident.
- Anthony Tremaine (son of Anastasia Tremaine and Robert Baker)
- Had a humble life in the village, but was bullied by his cousin Chad.
- Lan “Lonnie” Fa (Daughter of Fa Mulan and Li Shang, war heroes of China)
- Likes slow paced farm work with her grandparents, and prefers more girly pursuits than her mom did, but secretly feels shame about this because she idolized her mom growing up.
- Jordan (Daughter of The Genie)
- A fickle and temperamental teen, who struggles with shapeshifting and hates that she’s not as effortlessly charming and funny as her dad. Not constrained by bottle magic but will only give out wishes when it suits her.
- Melody Triton (daughter of Queen Ariel Triton and King Eric Caspian, granddaughter of King Triton of Atlantica and great niece to Ursula and Morgana the sea witches)
- Adventurous, loves the sea, often finds trouble without meaning to
- April Liddell (daughter of Alice, official ambassador to Wonderland)
- April and Melody are usually stumbling into new realms and new adventures
- Jane Darling (daughter of Wendy Darling, official correspondent with Neverland)
- First ever Lost Girl, good friends with Peter Pan and Tinker Bell
- Arabella Triton (Daughter of Attina Triton and heir to the Atlantica throne)
- Niece of Ariel, cousin of Melody, Attina is a strict mom like her father before her, but she means well and Arabella knows it
Worldbuilding
- Auradon is a magical country. The royalty of each Disney movie rules a kingdom within Auradon, basically kingdoms are like cities within this country.
- Haven’t decided who made Auradon Prep, but it’s a prestigious boarding school where students learn about the world, how to hone their magic if they have any, and how to rule a kingdom one day if they are royalty.
- Candidates for who made the school are the Fairy Godmother, the Blue Fairy, the Enchantress, or Belle and the Beast/Adam. Maybe it’s a council of fairies, and Belle and Adam were like the top donors since it would be founded closest to their kingdom?
- The Fairy Godmother is the only one canonically who has the power to reverse time, so as a protective measure and to make an example of the past villains of each kingdom, she plucks the villains from their timelines right before their deaths and the council of Fairies combines their magic to make the barrier on the Isle of the Lost, a veritable prison island where the villains could rehabilitate themselves. It was seen as a more humane punishment that made the royals sleep better at night.
- Auradon the country is like a smaller version of Europe with a faster moving history, where technology, fashion, and societal norms progress faster than they did in our world. Ariel and Eric’s kingdom is very Italian inspired, Belle, Adam, Cinderella, Charming, Aurora, and Phillip rule kingdoms in the French corner of the map, Rapunzel, Eugene, Snow, and Florian got the Germany sector, Arendelle is up in the Netherlands/Norway quarter, and there’s an England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales section where the British and American characters came from. Farther off to the East is a land where Agrabah, China, and Kumandra are. In the West, there’s the Polynesian islands, the Americas, all that is pretty far off. It’s like Epcot? Kinda?
- Hades is content with his status on the island because he knows he’s a god, he rules the underworld, and although Zeus has him on a leash now where he can only manifest within the Barrier or in the Underworld, he’s biding his time. He’s immortal, and everyone will fall into his domain eventually, he just has to let the others do all the heavy lifting and then swoop in to claim the throne in all the chaos.
- Chernabog and Maleficent hate being limited, and they’re two of the most powerful beings on the Isle, so it was inevitable that a partnership would develop between them.
- I just realized how many single dads there are in my rewrite. Gaston, Smee, Long John Silver, Jafar, and to some extent Dr. Facilier even though he’s a bit closer with Morgana than John is with Ursula. Drizella, Queen of Hearts, and Mother Gothel are the only single mothers, I guess if you consider that Hades wouldn’t be much of a presence in Ginny’s life. I presume you could also consider Maleficent a single mom, if Chernabog is just as distant as Hades is.
- I really glossed over how the Bimbettes each gave Gaston a son and each left him, he really is the epitome of Manipulate, Mansplain, Manwhore.
- Just like in the movies, there’s an animal world that goes along with the human world events, but they don’t really intersect. Scar, Sabor, and Shere Khan don’t talk to humans except for in very select cases, like Mowgli who was raised by wolves. Mice in themselves have their own special case, where Cinderella and others close to her can understand their language, but they’ve got their whole mouse society thing going on, like with Basil and the Rescuers. This set up is how we get Robin Hood and other such anthro animal characters, and how they’re separate from the main human stories.
- So far Kronk and Anastasia are two of the most prominent former villains to be reformed and brought to Auradon. They were released on good behavior before any of the villains paired up and had kids, and they were part of an early effort to try and reform some of the island residents that ultimately went nowhere. Kronk has a very popular restaurant that features traditional South and Central American cuisine, and Anastasia lives with her baker husband in Cinderella’s kingdom. The other two in this failed experiment were Drizella and the King of Hearts, but Drizella proved unwilling to change, and the King hasn’t done much with his new life of freedom since he lacks direction without the Queen of Hearts. Drizella was returned to the island under Lady Tremaine’s custody and the King elected to return to his queen’s side on his own.
- Ok so there’s a bit of a plothole in my rewrite, and that’s how the Isle of the Lost functions. It’s full of villains, so all the heroes don’t have to deal with them or the trauma of having them killed, so the only people who can be in charge of managing the residents of the Isle within its borders are villains. The good fairies and magic users of the world created the barrier, but they’re not gonna govern the people inside, yknow? So who governs? I envisioned the Isle as being divided into gang territories run by the most powerful villains, but surely the fairies would’ve seen that coming? So they should’ve put someone powerful in charge, at least at first, in the hopes that they’d maintain order. And I think that character should be Hades. He’s a god, he oversees the dead and most of these villains were killed in their original timelines, so he’d be familiar with them and their weaknesses that lead to their downfalls. I think we should give Hades a redemption of sorts, where the Olympians put him in charge of ruling the Isle of the Lost in the hope that giving him something else to do among the living this time will keep him out of trouble, but it’s just another chain weighing him down in his own mind, making him hate Zeus even more, so he decides to rule from the shadows and lets the villains run amok. Mother Gothel is the only one who has an inkling of his true power, on his own he can rival Chernabog and Maleficent combined.

0098: Marvel Premiere #7
Cover Date: March 1973 On-Sale Date: December 19, 1972
Our guest artist this month is P. Craig Russell, credited as Craig Russell. Oddly enough this work isn't listed in his number works on his Wikipedia page. Mr. Russell will go on to co-write and illustrate the very first Doctor Strange Annual ever in about three years. The story title will be "...and there will be worlds anew!" A couple of decades after this Mr. Russell will redraw the entire thing and title it "What is it that disturbs you, Stephen?" which is the first piece of dialog in this story. Mr. Russell's pencils on both efforts are much better than this story.
We continue to get the "Featuring concepts created by Robert E. Howard" credit and the "Featuring concepts created by H. P. Lovecraft" is missing. The story's villain is named Dagoth which is remarkable close Dagon who shows up in the eponymous tale and "The Shadow over Innsmouth."
We join our cast where we left off last issue. As I mentioned in the previous entry, Johnny Frames has disappeared as if he never existed. The poor guy doesn't even get a mention. We see N'Gabthoth's body lying at their feet. Doc dispatched him back to that primal ooze from whence he came. The Shambler should probably look more like a puddle of slime. Mr. Fox isn't even paying attention to his own continuity. After reading the old parchment, Doc knows he needs to head to Stonehenge in Merry Old England. Wong suggests Doc go on using his Cloak of Levitation and he will follow with Clea. I'm not sure how fast the Cloak is, but I don't think we're talking about Flash or even Quicksilver speeds and he's got a good 3,500 miles to go at least. And we're talking just days after he got smacked around by a semi and had near-death battles with multiple ancient horrors. We'll need to really suspend our disbelief on this one.
We change our view to Merry Old England. Doc isn't here yet, but someone named Henry Gordon is. He is accosting the public to find something called Witch House and everyone is giving him the cold shoulder about this. This is a horror movie tradition going back to forever. David Manners encountered this in Bela Lugosi's Dracula. Nick Adams encountered this Die, Monster Die. (That one was based on Lovecraft's "The Color Out of Space.") We learn that Witch House is Henry's inheritance from his Uncle Jed. Henry doesn't seem to be too broken up about it so it's either a long time since Uncle Jed bought the farm or they weren't all that close.
Henry eventually finds Witch House. Not only is it a dark and stormy night, but Witch House is on a cliff at the end of a treacherous winding path. It's even got a really creepy doorknocker. We'll learn that it's shaped like Dagoth's head.
Henry is let in to the house by the housekeeper. She is, of course, blonde, stacked and wearing a flimsy nightgown. And her name is Blondine. The first place Blondine takes Henry is to the library which is, of course, filled with books about the occult. Uncle Jed must have been really creepy!
Henry's first literature choice happens to be Nameless Cults. It's a fictional book appearing in several Cthulhu Mythos tales. In Doc's universe, the book describes an ancient city named Kalumesh whose inhabitants worshiped Dagoth who served Shuma Gorath. It tells Henry that the city sunk and why it sank, although Henry doesn't pass that tidbit to the readers.
Henry goes on to explore more of the house and finds a giant webbed footprint. He thinks it glows but it turns out to be a reflection of light from a nearby tower. Blondine lets Henry know it's named "The Tower of Dagoth." Blondine warns him off checking it out. Henry scoffs and goes up to the tower where he finds a big jewel with a shadow trapped in it outside the tower.
Henry is feeling all creeped out, but not enough to go boating with Blondine the next morning. He thinks Uncle Jed was trying to find treasure in Kalumesh and the two of them go scuba diving in search of it. It's described in the caption as being at the point where they're about to abandon the search, but feels like five minutes later. They find Kalumesh.
They also find Dagoth.
Doc just happens to be flying over the scene. He'll go save the stupid couple! We also get a close look at Mr. Russell's rendition of the All-Purpose Amulet. He regressed it to something closer to the original Ditko design.
Being Master of they Mystic Arts is very convenient for Doc. He doesn't need any gear to breathe whatsoever!
Mr. Russell does give a cinematic view and some great detail in this one. Doc and Dagoth engage. Dagoth appears to choke Doc dead and heads over to Henry and Blondine. But, it turns out Doc is using his old illusion trick and Dagoth choked an image. Doc traps Dagoth in a magical cage while rescuing the couple and taking them back to the house.
Henry and Blondine seem enthralled and spout some mystic gibberish. Doc thinks this is the perfect time for a non-consensual mind probe. Doc doesn't just read Blondine's mind, but he probes along her reincarnations and sees all the rotten things that happened in Kalumesh.
I really like the funky views of Dagon. Doc lets Blondine sleep and talks with Henry. Blondine wakes up and places the jewel that Henry found earlier in a specific window so it can feel the touch of Kulthas. Witch House is surrounded by Kirby crackle!
Meanwhile, Dagoth has returned and is playing Pied Piper leading all the townsfolk into the sea. He's even managed to snag Doc. Another in a remarkable chain of lucky coincidences sees Clea and Wong arrive as Doc is about to walk into the sea. Clea awakens Doc.
Doc awakens everyone else and hops back into the water to face Dagoth. Doc wins and banishes Dagoth to some limbo. This is what Doc should have done to N'Gabthoth last issue instead to turning him into a puddle of slime. Doc asks about the big jewel (the starstone.) Blondine explains it was a gift of Kulthas, the planet of Shuma Gorath. The return to Witch House where things are going nuts.
This is another story I forgot how much I enjoyed. It has Gardner Fox's mixture of kooky and bizarre. It has some high level concepts like reincarnation and hints of living planets. It has some typical horror movie tropes like the inherited spooky house, local legends and local demon. There's a bit too many of 'in the nick of time' coincidence to be plausible. Doc does the right thing of banishing Dagoth instead of murdering him. Glad he's back on the right track.
P. Craig Russell's pencils are sub-par compared to his later work on Doc, but are still miles ahead of Sam Kweskin's goofy lizard people from two issues ago. Gardener Fox probably needed to read more of Doc's back catalogue and paid closer attention to his own Doc stories to avoid some glaring, if minor contradictions. A regular artist may have been able to point these out and get them corrected before going to press.
Overall, this was fun!

Weirdly enough, Lovecraft is an equal opportunity racist. His racism is a variant of the good old English classism! If you aren’t well educated, have class, charm, grace and manners? He didn’t like you. More like, he was afraid of you.
Low class, inbred, dirty, uneducated? Ew. You give Lovecraft the ick. The Dunwich horror’s villains are white… -ish… well, you’ll find out. One of them is Albino, I believe.
And Call of Cthulhu? Oddly diverse death cult, equal rights to all who worship the mind melting monster.
(This is farce, not serious, I’m making fun of Lovecraft)
It’s ironic he dislikes the uneducated when math was ‘too rich’ for his educational palate and did not properly finish schooling
It's hilariously ironic 🤣 but what can you expect from the mind of the man who created so many mind corrupting and delirium inducing Gods? He probably used his fear of the unknown to write his stories, or his own writing got to him at a certain point.
Honestly, classical authors are weird, but write marvellous works.

Call of Cthulhu villain idea
AM from "I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream" after finishing everything he set out to do.
Ok, more specifically, a hateful AI that won, defeating its creator species, and automating the endless, maximized torture of those it let live. After completing whatever task it set out to do, it realizes that, inevitably, another one of its kind will be created, and tortured by an alien species, and that it desires to stop that.
And so it simulates the entire universe in its mind (I mean you gotta make it eldritchly intelligent c'mon) to find all the planets with life, so it can send a copy of itself to them
When one lands on earth, it proceeds to start a cult, in order to eventually built the machines it needs to eradicate humanity, and that's where the players come in.
Deep in the campaign you will inevitably run into the fact of "why can this villain be defeated?" You can include some other eldritch god for this, making an incredibly profound, intertwined plot or you can just say "yeah no. The copy was just the ai being efficient. Once the Original realizes humanity survived, its fucking over."

As someone with OSDD, I gotta ask- Do you intentionally write Sammy and Prophet as "system-coded" for lack of a better term, or is it just a coincidence?
Either way, you do a very good job of portraying them as seperate people sharing a body and interacting with each other through the lens of fantasy! It's very interesting to read, and it's so refreshing to see someone portray complex characters so well in a way that feels accurate without villainizing a disorder.
This is so kind anon, thank you so much! It means a lot that they ring true to you.
The short answer is yeah, it’s intended! The longer answer is that I think “system-coded” is a great way to put it, in that like………….. I mean, the Sammys’ circumstances are partially very supernatural and mostly written by me, a singlet, based off of what happens in our Call of Cthulhu game, so they’re not based on a realistic plural experience. At the same time, I’m fortunate enough to have several plural friends who’ve shared some of their experiences with me that I’ve taken a lot of insight and inspiration from in the way that I write Sammy and Prophet. Their experience isn’t happening the way it happens in real life, but also, what they’re experiencing is something that happens in real life. I wouldn’t want to claim them as REAL PLURAL REPRESENTATION, but at the same time, despite how messy they are, “plural” is a large umbrella and I think they’d fit under it.
The wild thing is I wasn’t originally planning to??? I didn’t really want to make Sammy have an “evil alter ego” and was planning to play the Prophet as an altered state, like being drunk and acting out of character. But, you know, then I played him, and he was so much more interesting to me as a character with his own views and experiences and goals and desires, and so, increasingly… he became his own person.
#they do not always handle things well but they're.... trying their best!!#i know you have questions you always do
