I ran removals for a mortuary for six months, and I want to give my thoughts about bodies. People always react like it must have been creepy, like I must have felt haunted--but it's the opposite. Corpses, unlike living people, have absolutely no presence. If someone is in a dark room and I turn on the light, I don't startle myself because on some level I knew. But bodies would sometimes scare me because I just didn't feel them. There's something that I think distresses people about that emptiness, and the realization that whatever makes us people, it's not necessarily directly related to the body.

absolutely! we struggle to accept a void, particularly where we believe that something should be. a lack that's a hunger we can't satisfy is the most devastating kind. we cannot abide nothing!!!
