Ladder to Heaven

This is a documentary called Sky Ladder, which records the preparation of the Sky Ladder by Mr. Cai Guoqiang.

The whole documentary began with Cai's hometown, from gunpowder to the end of the 21-year Sky Ladder project. Sky Ladder is also a gift from Cai Guoqiang to his hometown of Quanzhou, and also for the author and his family. At 4:45 a.m. on June 15, 2015, the Sky Ladder of Cai Guoqiang was presented successfully in Quanzhou, Fujian province.

At the beginning of the documentary, Cai said, "My art‘s failure or success are not important".

This is the artistic characteristic of Cai Guoqiang, which is also the important reason for his success. Cai's art is an act, a process, a performance. Failure and success are acts of art.

Cai has been talking about "invisible forces" in his artistic creation, using gunpowder as a material for artistic creation. This way is full of speed, power, uncertainty and chance. His Sky Ladder was even a little childish, and he had to build a Ladder to heaven or the universe. It represents the spirit of human exploration of the universe and life, as well as the Oriental's admiration for the circle of life.

Cai guoqiang's first attempt of the Sky Ladder was in bath, England, in 1994. Because of the weather, the Ladder didn't rise. The same attempt occurred in APEC Shanghai in 2001, and at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2012, both of which failed to materialize due to environmental and security factors.

Cai also talked about large powder works of art in China in recent years, the business success is easy to fall into the predicament of the "entertainment", make the Cai produced between art and politics service. Sky Ladder is like his oath to the artist; "Art is the space and time tunnel that I go to the universe. I look forward to talking to the universe." Sky Ladder is a communication between Cai and ancient civilization, the universe and the unknown world.

Recently, on the famous Children music TV program The Wings of Song, this little girl Elizabeth with an elegant cheongsam had made a profound impression on the audience.

Elizabeth was born in Australia and now lives in Hong Kong. On the stage of The Wings of song, this gifted girl sang a song, an opera version of Jasmine Flower. Since Elizabeth grew up overseas, her Mandarin was not fluent, which completely had no influence to her brilliant performance. She made a perfect combination of western opera and Chinese folk song, as well as a fusion of Chinese and western cultures, therefore brought unique music enjoyment to the audience.

Sun Nan, a Chinese well-known musician, was impressed deeply and acclaimed Elizabeth as a nightingale when she sang. And then, the host asked her if she could sing other Chinese folk songs. So Elizabeth sang a piece of Flowing Stream. Sun Nan was so fond of her voice that he shouted excitedly, “Sing it ten more times!”

Later, on the Class Meeting of this program, Elizabeth sang Jasmine Flower together with Guoqing Cai. This talented girl was not disappointed. As soon as the music started, Elizabeth turned into a little elf and made an excellent performance.

Hong Kong International Vocal Open Competition is a high-standard, large-scale, authoritative, professional, fair and just international vocal open competition. 

It has a powerful jury, composed by over 30 famous international singers and vocal educators. These judge members come from different countries, including Italy, England, China, Romania, Korea, Ukraine, etc. The competition will hold masterclasses, lectures and concerts.
