Summary: After the fight at Stygga, an injured Milva wakes up at Kaer Morhen to the voice of a tall stranger with unkempt red hair and a wild, red beard. A very annoying stranger.

Inspired by the Whiskey With Witcher podcast interview with fanfic author @BuffySummers10/Descarada/ @fangirleaconmigo "I want more Milva [...] How could we get her into Kaer Morhen? [...] How could we get Milva a better ending?" Thanks a lot for the inspiration! Hope you all like what I've come up with, enjoy!

She wakes up to the blurry vision not of blue sky or the green of trees but to the grey of stone walls, cold and bleak and suffocating. Stygga, her hazy brain whispers, she must still be in Stygga. With a panicked start, she sits up. And falls right back, moaning loudly. Shit, her middle aches worse than when she had that miscarriage centuries ago. No, not really centuries, of course, but it feels like a very, very long time has passed since then, although it has not even been a year.

"You shouldn't do that, woman," a deep, gruff voice says from across what seems to be a large room. She blinks and the room comes more into focus. The walls are bare stone, yet there are candle holders mounted on them and the golden light of a sunny afternoon filters in through a high window. She is lying not on the floor between corpses in a pool of her own blood but in a bed. No fetters or manacles or anything hinting at that she is a prisoner. The blanket and pillow feel rather coarse, nothing like in Toussaint, and the bed is of a simple, but sturdy make, not a huge fourposter bed with a richly embroidered canopy. But a bed is a bed, and, being a simple girl from the woods, she hated all that hoity-toity luxury anyway. But where the hell is she? Where are her friends? And who the fuck is the man who just spoke to her?

Cautiously, she turns to the side where the voice came from. There are several more beds with small, plain tables between them, a chair or two, and a lot of unlit candles. At the far end by what seems to be the entry to an adjacent room stands a tall man. He is leaning casually against the ornamented wooden entry frame with his is arms crossed in front of his broad, muscular chest. His shoulder-length, unkempt hair is red, his face covered in a wild beard and his strange, dark eyes are examining her as if she was a foreign insect waiting to be stuck on a needle and mounted in a display case. Damn, she does not like this stare ...

 oh  ,  this  is  such  an  exciting  question  !!!  i  have  a  scroll’s-length  piece  of  paper  with  the  characters  i’d  like  to  see  around  .  i  have  no  idea  if  you’re  familiar  with  the  books  ,  games  ,  show  ,  if  you’re  familiar  with  all  three  …  so  i’m  just  going  to  list  all  of  them  here  and  hope  that  you  recognise  a  few  of  these  names  lajdgh  .  these  are  muses  i  haven’t  written  with  yet  at  all  ,  even  though  there  might  be  one  or  two  around  .

Coën gazes after Lambert, who is leaving with Milva in his arms, then he looks at Cahir, raising his eyebrows questioningly.

"What?" Cahir asks, then it dawns on him. "No way, don't even think of it," he splutters, blushing. "I can walk on my own." To prove it, he swiftly rises from the bench. And sucks in a sharp breath of pain, reaching for the armrest for support, his vision swimming.

"Shit, are you okay? Should I call Triss?" Coën's voice is laced with worry as he jumps up and extends a supportive arm. Cahir is far too pale for his liking, and clearly in pain. Perhaps it was too early for him to leave his bed in the infirmary? But the fresh air, sunshine and the company were clearly doing him good after the many days of being confined to his sickbed, and Triss had allowed it.

"It's nothing," Cahir wheezes. "Just give me a minute." With his eyes closed, he leans into the dark-skinned Witcher, who has somehow, miraculously, become a good friend in the course of the last few days, and takes a deep, steadying breath.

But should he not hear twigs crunching under the soles of his boots? The autumn wind whispering in the trees' orange and yellow leaves that lend a golden glow to the picturesque landscape? Birds twittering in the bushes and sheep bleating in the distant meadows? How can there be this deep and utter silence? And why is he alone? Where is everybody? Milva? Regis? Cahir? And, most of all, Geralt? (Words: 800)

- All Is Not As It Seems

Prompts: 12 "Cannibalism", 31 "I'm alive, I'm just not well": Coën groans. Judging by how tired he feels, he cannot have slept for long, maybe an hour or two. Something has woken him up. A sound like the whetting of a blade. Cahir is not sharpening his sword in the middle of the night, is he? Groggily, he blinks his eyes open.

"Hmm, how strange. This has never happened before. Why are you not out cold like your friend?"

For a moment, Coën stares at the tall blonde man, disoriented. Then his memory clicks into place. Soren. The cottage in the heath. The delicious meal and the nice guest room with the one bed. Cahir snuggled up close to him. Fuck, this is not the bed he fell asleep in, he suddenly realises. It feels like he is lying on a wooden table instead, and his hands— Dammit, what is going on here? And where is Cahir? (Words: 2,059)

- White Eyes

Prompts: 20 "It's not your fault", 21 "Spirit possession", 30 "What have I done?", alt. "Regret": Ciri has a bad nightmare. Yennefer wants to help, yet somehow she makes things worse, much worse. Fortunately, Geralt and Vesemir know what to do. (Words: 1,000)

Excerpt from Chapter 49:

Another disappointment is waiting for Lambert when he and Coën, as the last ones, land in Kaer Morhen with Ciri. No delicious dinner is waiting for them. There was no time to cook. The injured stranger - Cahir - is badly feverish, moaning and groaning, and raving about a ghoul with a big moustache he has to protect Princess Cirilla from. All evening, Vesemir has been more than busy keeping him from tearing his bandages off in an attempt to rush to Ciri's aid. He tried to bring the fever down with the help of willow bark tea and cold compresses, but with his cheek and mouth badly slashed, drinking is so painful for the young man, he has not managed more than a few sips. And Triss has not answered his message yet. Lambert will have to survive an evening on bread, goat cheese, dried meat and ale, Vesemir figured and left the kitchen cold. Whether or not Geralt's friend will make it without Triss's help is an entirely different question, though. Or can Yennefer do something, perhaps?

"I'm sorry," the newly rescued sorceress says with an exhausted sigh, looking down at Cahir's heavily bandaged, sweat-covered face. Whatever Vilgefortz has done to her, she is so depleted, she can barely stay on her feet without support and not even the easiest charm seems to work, much less so difficult healing magic. She picks up a damp piece of cloth and gently wipes Cahir's sweat-slick brow and face where it is not swathed in dressings. Somehow, while escaping from the Brotherhood after the failed execution, she has come to like the erstwhile Nilfgaardian commander general despite his almost insane obsession with the White Flame. Who would have thought that he would end up as Geralt's friend in Kaer Morhen one day, after having helped save Ciri from this very same White Flame?
