FIVE FAVE FICS
Thanks a lot for the tag, @helloliriels This is quite difficult ...
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. spread the self-love ❤
The Summer Boy (94k, T)
About half a year after the fateful events at Appledore, Sherlock and John embark on a private case in Sussex. For Sherlock, it’s a journey into his past, bringing up memories both happy and sad that he has locked away for almost thirty years. For John, it means coming to terms with the present – and a potential future with Sherlock.
Slipstream (290k, M)
It’s going to be the last Tour de France for professional cyclist John Watson. Despite the hardships of cycling more than 3000 kilometres in three weeks, in blistering heat and torrential rain, over dangerous cobblestones in northern France and the mountains of the Alps and the Pyrenees, battling thirst, hunger, injury and exhaustion, not to mention bitchy rivals, doping allegations, and the ever scoop-hungry press, he is going to enjoy the ride, damn it. That’s what John keeps telling himself – until he meets his new teammate, Sherlock Holmes, who adds a whole new list of problems as well as an extra dose of excitement to John’s life
Nightjet (22k, M)
Officially deceased for eighteen months and still looking for the last remainders of Moriarty’s criminal empire, an exhausted Sherlock boards a night train in Germany to bring him to his next hunting ground. Due to a mishap with the sleeper cars, he is forced to share a compartment with a stranger – who turns out to be not quite as strange as Sherlock thought. The universe isn’t lazy, after all
A Midnight Clear (16k, T)
It’s Christmas Eve, and Sherlock is working. Because that’s what he does. He doesn’t need Christmas, or holiday cheer, or even company. He’s fine on his own, thank you very much – until a series of strange encounters on his way back to Baker Street makes him reconsider.
Over Cloud and Under Cloud (16k, T, Cabin Pressure crossover)
After his Fall, Sherlock travels the world to destroy what remains of James Moriarty's criminal empire. When things don't go according to plan and he finds himself in desperate need of a discreet means of travel, cue MJN Air …
Not sure who’s been tagged already, but I’ll go for @naefelldaurk @jrow @bertytravelsfar @discordantwords and @agrlsname

Happy holidays and happy 911 Gift Exchange to the lovely @julianbaashir ! I hope you enjoy this silly firefam fluff! And a huge thank you to @paranoidbean for setting this whole thing up!
And That's What You Missed At The 118
(firefam) (buddie) (1.4k words)
cabin pressure inspired firefam fluff with a little buddie for fun!
No one at the station is stupid enough to say the q-word. If someone was an idiot, though, it wouldn’t be an inaccurate way to describe the shift. They’re five hours in, and the single call they’ve gotten was for a malfunctioning smoke detector.
And Buck. Is. Bored.
And about to make it everyone’s problem.
He’s got a plan.
Step 1: Gather the team.
“Chimney! How’s my favorite brother-in-law?” Buck asks cheerfully, dropping to the sofa.
“Depends,” Chimney says, raising an eyebrow and looking up from his book. “What are you about to ask me to do?”
Buck holds a hand to chest, mock affronted. “What have I ever asked you for anything?”
“I seem to remember a couch that was occupied for an exceptionally long time,” Chimney replies.
Buck waves his hand. “Aside from that.”
“Well–”
“Anyway!” Buck interrupts. “That’s not important. What is important is that you grab Hen and anyone else you can find and meet me in the kitchen in twenty.”
“Pretty sure Hen’s still drowning in paperwork, Buckaroo,” Chimney says.
“And that, my oh so handsome and intelligent brother-in-law, is why you’re going to be the one to get her.” Buck bounces up from the couch and grins.
“You know,” Chimney calls after him as he heads towards the stairs, “Maddie and I aren’t actually married.”
“Not yet!” Buck tosses brightly over his shoulder.
Step 2: Find an ally.
“Hey, Probie! Good to have you back on A-Shift!” Buck claps Ravi on the shoulder.
“Dude, I graduated like three months ago. I know you know my name,” Ravi says flatly.
Buck bites down on a grin. “Ravi,” he says imploringly, “I need your help.”
“Mm,” Ravi hums. “Nope!”
“C’mon,” Buck whines, “It’ll be fun! I just need you to distract everyone for like two minutes.”
Ravi pats him on his shoulder. “Should’ve started with ‘Ravi’ instead of ‘Probie’, then,” he shrugs.
“I said it was good to have you back!” Buck protests.
Ravi leans back in his chair and stretches. “Good to be back,” he grins. “Did I hear kitchen in twenty?”
“Yeah,” Buck grouses, “but it’d be more fun if you were in on it.”
“Nah, I’ll wait for the surprise,” Ravi deadpans.
Step 3: Find a different ally.
Eddie glances up from the journal he’s writing in before Buck gets a chance to say anything.
“Oh, I know that expression,” he says fondly. “What are we about to get up to?”
“See,” Buck says, not even trying to keep from smiling, “I knew there was a reason you’re my favorite.”
Eddie pushes away from the table and gives Buck his full attention. “About time you admitted it,” he says.
Buck feels himself go a little pink, but ignores it in favor of explaining The Plan. Which is really quite simple. And maybe less of a plan and more of a game. Anyway, it’s called–
“The Traveling Lemon,” Eddie interrupts with a grin. “I remember. You want me to distract everyone while you hide it?”
The urge to press a smacking kiss to Eddie’s lips in thanks for his brilliance is… surprisingly strong. Buck will deal with that some other time.
“Got it in one, I have no idea why I bothered with Ravi,” Buck says.
“Nobody’s got your back like I do,” Eddie says. It sounds like a joke, but damn if it isn’t true.
“Hell yeah,” Buck says, bumping Eddie’s fist.
Eddie nods at the door. “Go ahead, I’ll keep them all occupied.”
Step 4: Hide the lemon.
The game is simple. Hide a lemon in plain sight, and send the rest of the team looking for it. It’ll keep them occupied for an hour, at least, and Buck will get the satisfaction of making everyone’s day a little brighter. It’s the perfect plan, and it just needs the perfect hiding spot to go along with it.
Buck pulls the lemon he’d snagged from the kitchen out of his pocket and sets off to find the perfect place.
He steers clear of the loft, where he hears Eddie telling a story he’s heard before, one that Buck knows will give him almost six minutes exactly to hide the lemon.
The locker room is his first choice, but the glass walls (which, by the way, he’s been at the 118 for six years and he still doesn’t get that) rule it out. The bunk room is too obvious, and the team would catch him on the way to Hen’s temporary office. Which leaves one of the trucks, or the gym area.
Or something even better, Buck realizes as he glances up at the stairs. They’re open to the bottom, and the gap between the steps and the frame is just wide enough…
He stashes the lemon and jogs up to the kitchen.
“The lemon,” Buck announces dramatically, “Is in play.”
Half the team groans, but Buck knows his team well enough to know that competitiveness will get the best of all of them.
Step 5: Wait for someone to find the lemon, then return to Step 4.
Or, Buck thinks three minutes later when the station alarm sounds, accept that the EMS gods have it out for you.
“It was a good try, Buckaroo,” Hen says, patting him on the shoulder.
“Yeah,” Chim says with a friendly shove towards the engine. “We can pick it back up when we get back to the station.”
Ravi drops Buck’s helmet onto his head as they jump on the truck. “I’m almost sorry I didn’t agree to help in the first place,” he says, grinning. “I’m sure someone will find it when we get back, though.”
Buck drops into his seat next to Eddie and goes to remove the helmet.
Eddie grabs his wrist. “Careful, Buck, you already tempted the EMS gods once today,” he smirks.
“Oh come on, you don’t believe in the EMS gods,” Buck whines.
Eddie shrugs. “Fine, take it off, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
“Alright boys,” Hen calls from the front, “that’s enough banter. We’ve got a serious situation.”
The atmosphere in the truck immediately sobers.
“Cat up a tree on Sunset,” Hen deadpans.
The entire truck breaks out laughing, and doesn’t quiet until they reach the scene.
Step 6: Rescue a cat (that probably doesn’t actually need rescuing).
Ravi’s operating the ladder, Eddie’s climbing it, and that leaves Buck to comfort the distraught cat owner.
The young woman sniffs and rubs her eyes with her sleeve. “It’s just… Honky’s not supposed to go outside at all, but I thought he’d be fine in the backyard.”
“Don’t worry,” Buck says, “Eddie’s got him. He’s the best in the business.”
The woman looks up from her shoes. “I’m sorry for wasting your time,” she says quietly.
“Hey, no waste!” Buck says cheerfully. “We’re here to help, that’s what we do.”
“Thanks,” she says with a hesitant smile.
From the tree, Eddie calls down to them. “Got him! We’ll be on the ground in no time.”
The woman heaves a sigh of relief. She stares at Eddie for a moment before looking back at Buck. Or, actually, her eyes track a little above him.
“Can I ask you a question?” she says, suddenly far less hesitant.
“Sure,” Buck says with an easy grin.
“Do– uh, do firefighters usually have lemons taped to their helmets?”
Buck’s jaw drops.
“Told you someone would find it!” Ravi calls cheerfully from the truck.
Step 7: Find and delete every single picture taken during Step 6.
Within half an hour, Buck gets a text from Bobby.
Is this what you all get up to when I’m away?
The attached picture is of him in the truck, laughing, eyes glued to Eddie, with a lemon taped to the top of his helmet.
So, okay, maybe he needs a Step 8.
Step 8: Return the lemon to play.
“Nice job, Buckley,” Eddie says, leaning against the railing next to him.
“Not going to look for the lemon?” Buck asks, bumping his shoulder.
Eddie grins. “Oh I know exactly where it is. Top of the fridge, in the bowl of bananas.”
“Damn, Diaz,” Buck whistles, “You’ve got an eye for this game.”
“Nah,” Eddie says, “I just know you. Still bored?”
“Nope,” Buck says happily as Chimney darts past them, head on a swivel, only to run directly into Hen in the loft, “mission accomplished.”
Hen and Chimney both dissolve into giggles.
Eddie looks at him with that soft expression he always seems to be wearing these days. “Mission accomplished,” he agrees.

Fic Writer's Showcase Game
I was tagged by @there-must-be-a-lock - thanks!
Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason. <3
First Fic: Full Circle
So, this is how I got into writing fanfic. Someone on a non-fandom message board I was on was a big fan of fanfiction, and I thought, "Wow, I haven't thought about fanfiction since my X-Files days! I wonder what it's like now?" I went to FFN (this was pre-AO3) and the top fandom was Pirates of the Caribbean, which I didn't know much about, and I think the second top was High School Musical, and the third was X-Men. So I read some X-Men stories, especially Wolverine/Rogue, and one of them was a very compelling story about pregnancy loss which ended with a very ambivalent ending -- basically, a phone ringing and you don't know if the character will pick up. My friends, I COULD NOT SLEEP. I had experienced a pregnancy loss in the prior year, and I *had* to write a happy ending to this story. In retrospect, it was the RUDEST thing but I was new to fandom and I didn't know anything. I wrote it in an email and then eventually sent it to the author like a cat dropping a dead mouse in her lap, and she was very kind and encouraged me to post it. And that was ::checks notes:: at least a decade ago. Yikes.
Last Fic:
Chrome-Plated Heart Technically a WIP but it's all completed and is just posting twice a week until it's done. A Winterhawk Marvel Pacific Rim AU.
One-Hit Fandom:
Hope
I am kind of a serial fandom monogamist and once I'm in a fandom I tend to linger for a few years, so I only have one one-off in the Cabin Pressure fandom and it's more of a ficlet. A little Douglas Richardson & Martin Crieff cutscene from St. Petersburg. I don't even know their portmanteau!
Favorite Fic in the Fandom with the Most Works:
Lucky in Love
Wow, I had to check but I'm actually now tied for fandoms -- Marvel and Teen Wolf both have 18 fics each. So, I'll go with Marvel, and Lucky in Love, my first Winterhawk fic. I think it's rare to write a fic and then not want to change much about it a few years down the road, but I still reread this one from time to time and I still really like it! Fic I Wish More People Read:
Quriosity
Hmmm. It seems greedy to say so because it got a great reception, both within the 00Q fandom and just objectively in terms of number of hits, etc., but I feel like there's not as much crossover between the Bond fandoms and others I'm in, so if there's one fic of mine I would encourage people to take a chance and try if they know me from Marvel or Teen Wolf fandoms it's this one. There's a lot of fics in my repertoire that have themes of touch starvation / touch aversion but this one is the mostest.
Fic I Agonized Over the Most:
Freedom's Reach
I'm tempted to say the current fic I'm writing (my selkie!Bucky MTH2022 fic) but I think that's just a tendency to think whatever you're writing now is putting up the hardest fight. Freedom's Reach is my Winterhawk historical AU (e.g. American Civil War era) with mail order bride, and I don't know what I was thinking to write 1.) Inherently uneven power dynamic, which is something I typically dislike 2.) In an era I know nothing about 3.) Requiring frequent misunderstandings which I typically dislike. My poor beta @kangofu-cb is a saint for all the whining and self-doubt she had to put up with as I wondered whether I was walking all those lines.
Fic that Sprang Fully Formed: For Everything There is a Season
So, Google tells me that the Four Seasons Total Landscaping debacle happened on November 7th, 2020, which means that within the week I had started posting this fic, and I'm pretty sure I wrote it in one evening. What can I say, I was inspired to think of ... Pierce ... and his ... Restore America's Glory supporters ... getting a pile of manure dumped on him. Go figure.
Proud of for Whatever Reason:
Pretty When You Cry
I am NOT good at writing short, capture-a-pivotal-moment-and-let-it-speak-for-itself fics. As the length of this post attests, I am a prototypical ADHD overexplainer. This fic managed to be short and sweet and intensely smutty but with all the feels somehow crammed in. And then, to overexplain, I had to do a second chapter from the other POV but I like how (to me at least) it doesn't feel repetitive or boring; it's the same events and dialogue but the internal narrative is so different it's still interesting. So, yeah, smutty little feels fic with Winterhawk failing a one-night-stand, check it out. I think between nox and lou most of the Winterhawk regulars already got tagged, so I'm tagging outside the fandom or people I haven't caught up with in awhile so, um ... @flamingo-queen-writes , @drunktuesdays , @pantstomatch, @shatteredhourglass, @1000-directions ... and anyone who wants to do this; I haven't been online for a bit so I'm sure I missed a bunch!

if any of my fellow good omens peeps are like me and need some comfort content right now, I can wholeheartedly recommend the audio duologue comedy Double Acts, which coincidentally is written by John Finnemore who co-wrote Good Omens 2.
especially series 2 episode 5, Penguin Diplomacy. it has unlikely friendships, funny banter, convoluted bureaucracy and gay penguins. it’s also very easy to put on and view it through shipping glasses, if one is so inclined
i love it with my whole heart and it heals my soul

Since it is that time of year, have some Christmas Cabin Pressure fic. There a few bits in these that I'm desperate to re-write but I'm! Not! Going to!
Erfurt - sets up Christmas fic - the whole gang is here, it's very silly.
“Everything alright, Arthur?”
“Yes! Uh, yes, everything’s fine, I think. I think… I think the passengers quite like me.”
“What on earth gives you that idea?” A smirk pulled at Douglas’s lips.
“Well they keep trying to touch my bottom.” Arthur blushed. “And I understand it’s because they like my bottom and I should probably be - be flattered but it’s - well - it’s my bottom, isn’t it? I should decide if people get to touch it.”
'Tis The Season - Christmas Day - Martin & Douglas friendship/pre-slash
He had lost heroically at Trivial Pursuits, having spent most of his life obsessively memorising flight manuals and operational procedures to the detriment of almost all other knowledge, but he still felt the warmth in his chest from the way the whole room had cheered when he got the pink cheese. He had bristled at the time, making a show of being irritated at being treated like a child, but secretly he enjoyed that he was still in some ways the baby. He glanced across at Douglas, and wondered what he had done all day.
There's New Year's Eve fic as well but you'll have to wait for that. Or you could just click through on A03.

tagged by @malcolm-f-tucker, ty! my fic writing output comes from a varied and bizarre set of source materials...we both will just have to deal with that i guess
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway!
le finestre son questa - don giovanni - 1.3k - mar 2 23
Your lady had a difficult evening: you’re not sure what happened, exactly, but you helped her dress for a masquerade before she left, and she returned hours later looking more frustrated and tired than she had when she’d left.
2. (currently still untitled. sorry) - don giovanni - 3.7k - feb 28 23
He wakes to the sound of steady beeping and the vague humming of electronics and machinery. Then, bright fluorescent lights, which he squints against the moment he tries to crack his eyes open. Then, the pain.
3. e buonnotte a tutti - don giovanni - 13k - feb 11 23
“Saint Anthony’s? Really?”
“Yes, really. Punch it into the GPS already.” Giovanni sinks a little lower into the passenger seat and fumbles with his dress shirt buttons.
4. 25th annual solesian national spelling bee - fantasy high - 26k - last updated dec 25 22
“Adaine, I swear to the gods, open this door at once.” The elder Abernant sister pounds her fist on the locked door to the library.
5. deh vieni a consolar il pianto mio - don giovanni - 3k - oct 24 22
The dining room is a mess, with bits of food and shattered porcelain strewn about the floor, and the faint haze of smoke hanging in the air.
6. skeleton in the closet - oklahoma! - 9.4k - may 22 22
“Beth, stay on the path. And stop swingin’ the dinner pail like that.” Clara scolds her little sister, who, from a few paces ahead, turns to give her a scowl.
7. starlight - oklahoma! - 34k - last updated may 13 22
Crickets chirp in the cool night outside. Laurey sits on her bed, trying to enjoy a quiet night in for herself.
8. dance you all over the meadow - oklahoma! - 945 - may 7 22
“Slow down, you’ll trip.” Laurey’s grip on Curly’s arm tightens, and she feels his on her shoulder tense. “What are you in such a hurry fer?”
9. l'astuto cacciator - giulio cesare - 2k - feb 27 22
“Enough financials for now,” Cleopatra orders, waving a hand to her attendants. Papyrus records of tax and grain are swept clean from the table and swiftly replaced with platters of fresh dates, olives, and figs for the queen and her advisors. “Tell me of the Romans.”
10. awake in a lonely room - oklahoma! - 1k - oct 10 21
Old Eighty is hitched to the fence in the front yard. Her eyes are sleepy and bored.

Fic rec
"My fair captain" by awanderingbard
Martin is invited to Theresa's formal birthday party. Being Martin, he panics. Luckily, MJN is on standby for Mr Goddard and, having nothing better to do anyway, they decide to help Martin prepare for the occasion.
This story had me both laughing out loud and going "awww" and "yes!!!" when a character was so perfectly in character.
A brilliant read!
