Tommy: aroace, he/him, 17, 6’1”, AuDHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, prosthetic leg. No voice claim yet. Very skinny and scrawny, like he would struggle to lift a gallon of milk. But also insanely fast. Demi god (through Kristen).

Tubbo: queer, trans ftm, he/bee, 18, 5’7”, AuDHD, dyslexia, PTSD, half blind. Voice claim: David from Hilda. Pretty buff, I’ve also been seeing I good amount of chubby c!Tubbo designs, so I might do that as well. Goat hybrid.

Cuddling with Quackity helps Wilbur sleep.

Whenever Tommy or Wilbur think about death, they play with the white streak in their hair 

When Dream was little, he used to draw his smile (TM) on stuff to “claim it”. Like, toys and shit like that.

The Syndicate gave each other hair styling tips.

The reason Quackity always wears a beanie is to cover his ears. For trauma reasons.

Tommy’s cardigan is made of Friend’s wool.

Sometimes Fundy, Foolish, and Sam spend the night at Las Nevadas, so they all have their own rooms there.

Wilbur masked for most of his time on the SMP (especially during the elections and Pogtopia) and only really unmasked after the people he was really close with.

Dream has retractable fingernail claws because of his limited shapeshifting abilities.

Sally and Milo are besties.

Okay, my theory for Fionna and Cake.

Fionna, Cake and Simon will go to different universes trying to find a crow that works, and no one does, until eventually they do! and Simon wants to used it.

But in the meanwhile, F&C will know the real Simon and realized that he can't become Ice King again, because he will lose who he is. But it's to late and Ice King is back and Simon is gone. Which is bad, Simon being Ice King is bad.

Somehow, with the help of our Finn and Marceline (because, come on, imagine Marcy reaction to Simon becoming IK again), they save Simon and save Prismo and Simon or someone else makes a wish to make the universe of Fionna and Cake a real universe among the multiverse, and not inside his head.

Simon realizes that being just his non-magic self is being good enough, and maybe Prismo let's a door open so F&C can visit Simon every once in a while.

Because Simon returning permanently to being IK is not good storytelling, that much is true. But temporally and seeing the main cast giving everything to have him back? Could be beautifull.

OK Y'ALL, JUST WENT TO SEE THE NEW GHOSTBUSTERS MOVIE, AND HERE ARE MY HONEST OPINIONS;

(Spoilers ahead!!)

Ok, so to be completely honest I don't really remember the start of the movie. I think the girl -Phoebe- from the last movie broke a building, the mayor from the classic movies got mad and she was put on the ghostbusting bench?? Also it's been 2 years or something because that Finn Wolfhard dude keeps saying he's 18?? But whatever, it starts getting really good when Finn finds Slimer in the attic. (Did I mention they live in the old fire station? Well they do, and Phoebe is getting them evicted, because of course she is.) They don't expand on Slimer being in the attic by the way. He's just.... There now, I guess. Also, Ray is in this movie. And he's running this shop with that podcast kid from the last movie (He's really just living in his basement.) And this awesome dude comes in, and he's a fire master but no one knows it yet. Anyway, he tries to sell Ray this orb that he thinks is haunted for $50, and Ray is all like "Ohh, let me do that wing thingy that tells me if it's haunted" and it's SUPER haunted. So Finn and his lesbian girlfriend hear about it from this British dude -(I HATE HIM HE CONTRIBUTED NOTHING BUT BEING ANNOYING.)- and Ray bought it of course. So that PENIS SUCKING DISAPPOINTMENT with a British accent starts OPENING HIS MOUTH and gets too cocky. Back to Phoebe, she discovered some emo blonde chick who's really good at chess. Butttttt, in Ghostbusters fashion, the one with glasses starts to get a little fruity. With a ghost. She's dead. And I guess Phoebe really liked her because she turns herself into a ghost for like 2 minutes. And, of course, she turns herself into a ghost RIGHT in front of the haunted orb. And wouldn't you know it, that wasn't a good idea. The millisecond she walks towards chess-emo, her eyes start glowing and shit. Just to be clear, not her human eyes, her ghost eyes, but her human body starts speaking in tongues. And then this grotesque, ugly, slimy, scare crow, SCP, bald piece of chalk looking demon walks out of some black smoke like Darth Vader. Like get back to the death star. And some timer goes off, and Finns lesbian girlfriend busts open the door with a backpack thing and my brother freezes it??? Like he freezes the distortion of particles??? But however, I didn't make the movie. But he gets bored or something and goes away. I would too to be honest. (NOTE: I just fell asleep writing this, it's like 11 for me and I gotta wake up at 4 😭) Back to the AWESOME fire master finds out from Ray that he's probably the fire master because British, Finn, and the lebanese girl go to his grandma's old sex dungeon (they say it's a container for the ball and that demon dude, but I know Grandma was getting freaky.) Anyway, the firemaster is bending some AWESOME fire when, conveniently, everyone is in the same place and the sky starts going dark with Darth Vaders edgy smoke. Also, there's some odd sub plot with the demon needing horns to be powerful, but they don't expand on that. So yada yada yada, they fight, bad guy=dead, good guy=living. But you came here for my opinions, didn't you? Well, here you go.

First off, Phoebes character. She had so many chances to grow, and the movie blew it. In many circumstances, she does something bad, like for example; cussing out the mayor, WHILE IN JAIL. They seemed to brush it off, while everyone in the movie forgot that she was 15 now. She needs real consequences, or she will grow to be undisciplined like her grandfather. I would honestly like to see that taken into account if there is ever another movie. She clearly already values and looks up to her grandfather even though he neglected his family, so maybe in the future she will start to grow more distant with her mother? Just a thought.

Second, this is kind of a short thought, but chess-emo reminds me of that girl from Wednesday. I think her name was Echidna?

Third, it seemed like all of the new characters, (and even some old ones), felt like MAJOR side characters. Even the main character felt insagnificant! We saw no bonding, no expanding on any characters, and no thinking about how the characters would live their lives outside of the main points of the movie, just purely thinking about how this character should react when this happens.

Fourth, the "Main Villain" felt inconsequential. We really saw nothing of what he could do, and that made him SO much less of a threat. In the last movie, that dog bitch at least TRIED world domination, but the ugly skinny demon from the new movie went straight for the firemaster.

Fifth, there were a lot of unnecessary characters, just there to give you enough nostalgia to give it a good rating in your Facebook circle. Slimer? Funny, but unnecessary, unlike how it ACTUALLY did something in the last movie. The baby marshmallow men? Also not needed, cute, but contributing nothing. This is not to mention the new people *Cough* British guy *Cough*.

THE MR. RUDE APOLOGISM MASTERPOST

you may be asking "Oh dear god what has Finn gotten up to this time?" well, that my friend, is a very valid question! The answer to which is as follows: He's rewatched every single TMMS segment with Mr. Rude in it to prove that he's done nothing wrong!

After many many hours of rewatching, I've come to some conclusions on the depressed tomato man. I'll give a quick rundown here, then throw my episode by episode analysis under the cut.

Season 1

Mr. Rude is in 30 episodes in Season 1.

In only 3 of these episodes does he do anything wrong.

In 4 of the episodes where he's innocent, Mr. Fussy yells at him for no reason.

Season 2

Mr. Rude is in 30 episodes in Season 2.

In only 6 of these episodes does he do anything wrong.

In 1 of the episodes where he's innocent, as well as one where he did do something wrong, Mr. Fussy yells at him for no reason.

Conclusions

In total, Mr. Rude only actually did anything wrong in 9 out of the 60 segments he's in, which is 15%. That's less than a quarter of the time. Even counting the three episodes I was unsure about, that's only 12/60. 20%. Still less than a quarter.

Why have I been bringing up Mr. Fussy? Because this experience genuinely made me not like him anymore. In only one out of Mr. Fussy's 7 appearances with Mr. Rude does he not yell at him, and in five of the times he does - it was completely unjustified.

Now, onto the episode by episode section!

Ah, you wanna see my episode by episode analysis? Well, I'll give you a quick color legend first.

Yellow - Mr. Rude does nothing wrong

Blue - Mr. Fussy yells at Mr. Rude for no reason

Also, there's a ton of cursing in here because I wrote these notes as I went along and I don't feel like editing them to be more professional. You get what you get when it comes to Mr. Rude apologism.

SEASON 1

Flying - He does nothing wrong, he just asked Mr. Grumpy to do his fucking job. Though, I will admit, he was a dick about it.

Music - He does nothing wrong, Miss Naughty is a fucking bitch and Mr. Fussy targeted him for no got damn reason even though he has fucking ears and should have heard Miss Naughty going off on her fucking cymbals. Miss Naughty also tried to poison him so

Farm - He does nothing wrong, those bitch ass crows broke his fucking robot I cant believe this.

Booboos - He does nothing wrong, he literally just wants some decent service while he is in the fucking hospital and Mr. Scatterbrain is a fucking moron about it

Mall - He's barely in it and I will admit he is a bit of an asshole in this one but he doesn't do anything explicitly wrong

Birthday - He does nothing wrong, he just wants to buy a birthday present for his homie Mr. Grumpy. In fact, he shows that he cares about his friend because he knows what he would want (and gets something he wouldnt like, presumably as a joke). Hes a caring friend but also a troll.

Superstore - He does nothing wrong, he just wants to return his shitty toaster. It ends up well for everyone involved :)

Books - He does nothing wrong, he is literally just neurodivergent and cannot read social situations

Camping - He does nothing wrong, he tried to warn everyone that they were going the wrong way, and then called out Miss Whoops on her fucking bullshit and putting everyone in danger. He then proceeded to fucking die. Miss Daredevil doesnt even give a shit about two of the raft riders fucking dying what the fuck.

Paint - He does nothing wrong, he just wants to finish his painting commission.

Jobs - This is the one I time I'll admit he does something really wrong. He commits multiple driving related crimes, as well as throwing his sandwich at Mr. Quiet, splashing Mr. Nosey and Mr. Small, and taking advantage of Mr. Scatterbrain's stupidity. He also crumpled up Mr. Scatterbrain's drawing of a hamster.

Trains - He does nothing wrong, Mr. Fussy's a bitch ass motherfucker, and he did more good than bad because he rescued Mr. Messy at the end.

Fair - He does nothing wrong, he got a fucking pie yeeted at him of course he wouldn't like it. He does put the pie in Mr. Scatterbrain's face though but he already got it in his face so it's just even now. He then proceeds to be pelted with pies. But thankfully it seems like they're both having fun by the end.

Movies - Yeah he's a bit of an asshole in this one. He puts too much cheese on Mr. Happy's nachos (and then throws them at him). He does get his karma though cause he gets fucking trapped in the popcorn machine someone please save him oh my god.

Dance - He does nothing wrong, he just has taste.

Inventions - He does nothing wrong, Miss Chatterbox just doesnt like him for the way he is which is super fucked up of her. What the fuck, man. He accepts Miss Chatterbox's invention regardless. He then proceeds to be abused by everyone around him. Hes totally justified in being mean at the end.

Amusement Park - Okay yeah he was an asshole in this one, cause he was rude to Miss Calamity about her supposed grooming habits. However, he was also abused a lot during multiple of the bumpers, which I guess counts as karma.

Adventure - He literally doesnt even do anything in this one

Rainy Day - Dude, his entire fucking family died. Give him a break.

Games - He did nothing wrong, he won the fucking game but Mr. Scatterbrain took the credit what the fuck he only had 3 POINTS MR RUDE HAD 4 MR. HAPPY YOU DUMB YELLOW FUCK LEARN HOW TO COUNT

Restaurants - He does nothing wrong, Mr. Fussy is so fucking mean to him I will never get over this he deserves so much better what the fuck

Cars - he's just vibin man

Canned Goods - He does nothing wrong, he just ate some beans man

Collecting - he's barely in it and just kinda vibes

Full Moon - He does nothing wrong, he legit just got kidnapped by some fucking aliens with his alien husband

Heatwave - He does nothing wrong, 6 gay men just casually committed acts of Home Invasion and are going to be arrested for their crimes against him.

Sleep - He does nothing wrong, and I doubt anyone would have even noticed he was asleep if Miss Chatterbox kept her fucking mouth shut. He cant control what hes doing if hes fucking asleep. Even after all that he still clapped for Mr. Fussy, who hates him, at the end. What a champ.

Carwash - He does nothing wrong, Miss Calamity technically fucking kidnapped him what the fuck.

Lawns - He does nothing wrong, he didn't want to take his lawn to begin with and then got his lawn ruined for literally no reason, even after warning Me. Nosey and Mr. Small that their invention was gonna explode. He even gave Miss Chatterbox the joy in knowing she "won".

Parade - He does nothing wrong, he legit just made a float and Mr. Fussy fucking bullied him for it. What the fuck.

SEASON 2

Clean Teeth - Yeah hes a bitch in this one but Mr. Fussy was also a bitch so it evens out.

Airports - He does nothing wrong, he just wanted to go on his flight. Of anything, Miss Scary was more rude than he was.

Game Shows - He does nothing wrong like. Genuinely nothing, and then gets physically assaulted.

Hats - He does nothing wrong, Mr. Grumpy's just a fucking bitch and took credit for both his and Mr. Tickles hats. What the fuck, man.

Robots - He does nothing wrong, he legit just got his baguette burnt wtf

Up and Down - He's fine for the first bit but I will admit hes an asshole in the second one

Gifts - He does nothing wrong, he's just trying to keep Mr. Tickle from fucking assaulting people. Then his entire store is destroyed for no reason.

Trains and Planes - He doesn't do anything wrong, he barely does anything to begin with

Out to Sea - He doesn't do anything wrong, it makes sense for him to act in his own self interest because he was stuck on a deserted island with those three morons for 30 fucking days. He didn't intend to take the boat, because the tide rolled him out. He is now inevitably going to die.

Next Door - Yeah hes a bitch in this one, but he didnt deserve to get his fucking car crushed.

Lunch - He doesn't do anything wrong, Mr. Stubborn drew first blood.

Machines - This is a weird one. Is he really in the wrong for wanting to go home? I mean, it's safe to assume Miss Giggles is fucking dead if she was taken by a dinosaur. He even vows not to doubt Miss Daredevil at the end and is happy to see Miss Giggles okay

Fairies and Gnomes - even though he thinks it's silly that Mr. Nervous is scared of a garden gnome, he still "arrests" it to make him happy :)

Home Improvement - He doesn't do anything wrong, Mr. Stubborn is just a moron.

Birds - He doesn't do anything wrong, he was even nice enough to invite Mr. Nervous along for the birdwatching trip. He's totally justified in not giving a shit about Mr. Fussy because Mr. Fussy has been nothing bit horrible to him the entire show.

Parks - He does nothing wrong he just wanted a burger

Surprises - Refused to watch this one again, I just know hes a bitch

Wow, that's a lot. Anyways, as a proud Mr. Rude apologist, I conclude that he's an innocent man and doesn't deserve the shit he gets. I can get taking his drivers license though that man cannot drive for the life of him

MCYT Oxenfree Chapter 1

Edward’s Island.

Fundy POV

“It used to be a military base. Then it became a ranching thing, then it was turned into an army thing, then it became a bird thing and a museum or whatever. Henry Fonda stationed here, I think, for a bit. Unless he was Navy.” 

I listened to Tommy rattle on as I leaned on the rail of the ship. The salty smell of the ocean filled the overcast sky. But thankfully, it was only slightly cold. Just enough for a light jacket..

“Who’s Henry Fonda?” Eret asked, unaware that you should never ask Tommy questions when he’s explaining things. He had a tendency to not hear them.

“And around Christmas time, this little breakfast place used to sell these amazing polar bear sugar cookies…” Like normal, Tommy went on. I laughed to myself, peering back over the edge of the ferry for wildlife in the water.

“Hey,” Tommy poked me. “Are you still with us? You haven’t said anything for like… 10 minutes.”

“Oh! Yeah, yeah. My mind just drifted for a second.” I turned back, checking my watch. It was 8. Right on time.

“So, you all moved in?” Tommy continued to talk to Eret. 

“Um, not really. I just got in this morning.” Eret chuckled.

“And how did Fundy’s mom meet your dad again?” Tommy was eager for gossip. 

“They met on vacation in London. He got lost in a garden and thought she worked there.” Eret took it in good humor as we walked back in the boat. 

I took the liberty of exploring the small craft. It wasn’t that old but still had that air to it. Slightly chipped paint and worn seats. How they got worn, I never understood. Only bird watchers and history nuts ever headed to Edward’s island anymore. Particularly not in the winter.

“Hey, there’s an old ship's wheel up here.” I called down to the others from the second story as I bent to read the placard. “It’s a replica from a… Portuguese caravel, it says.”

“Yeah! I think the Portuguese discovered the island? I dunno. I mostly slept through the maritime portion of history class.” Tommy shrugged.

“Says the kid who’s been ranting about the island for the past 18 minutes.” Eret teased. Tommy shot him a teasing glare as I came back down.

“So you guys just met tonight?” Tommy continued.

“Yeah, I was… I’d been out at school and the timing had just never worked out.” Eret shrugged.

“And what does that make you to the Furry? Second cousin or something?”

“Step bro and I am not a furry!” I groaned

“Yeah, yeah! At least you seem cool!” Tommy laughed. “Cool guy, cool eyes. You get a cool new sibling living right in your house! Wearing your clothes… eating your food ... Sharing your toothbrush.”

“Ew!” We both grimaced. The conversation dipped awkwardly.

“So… how do you two know each other?” Eret prompted us.

“Oh, from way back when, like paleozoic. Grade school era.”

“I moved from the Netherlands in the first grade and Tommy was the one I got partnered with on the first day.” 

“Passengers,” Suddenly the robotical intercom kicked on, nearly scaring me out of my skin. “We’ll be arriving soon. Check under your seat-” 

“Check under your seat to make sure you don’t leave behind any grandchildren.” Tommy commented over the recording sarcastically. 

“And if you picked up a complimentary disposable radio, remember to tune to 102.3 at the various plaques…” It droned on.

“Ooh! We should get a picture!” Tommy suddenly stood, dragging Eret and I back to the bow of the ferry. 

“Fine. Just… hold the camera out. Like… far. I don’t look my freshest right now.” I told Tommy as he pulled out his phone. I ran a hand over my ears, trying to smooth down my fur that had puffed up due to the humidity.

“It’s true, Eret. This is like B Minus Fundy.” Tommy grinned.

“Take the picture you child!” I nudged him. 

“I am not a child!” Tommy retorted while holding out the camera. We all smiled as the audible click came from the phone.

“There! Great. I’ll magic erase all the warts out and stuff, so don’t worry.” Tommy checked over the photo.

Eret made a face at the mention of warts and rolled his eyes. 

“Hey, Furry. Did you remember to bring that radio? The little portable one?” Tommy piped back up.

“Yeah.” I sighed, ignoring the comment as I took the object out my pocket.

“Our high school has a radio station and Finn- he’s a friend of ours- he’s filling in because TapL went on vacation with his family or something.” Tommy explained as I began twisting the knob to find the station. “It doesn’t matter. What matters is that he’s gonna say something like… basically right now about our thing so…”

We all intently listened to the radio as I found the right station, 88.3.

“... Which I played because Karl wouldn’t stop singing it during math class!” Finn seemed to be talking about the song that was just on. “But… oh! Look at the time! Just after ten o’clock. Which means my dear friend Tommy and his bros are probably just touching down on Edwards island for the yearly bash on the beach…. Or whatever we call it now.”

“But anyways, I promised him that I’d play a song from his channel, so hope you're tuned in, Tommy! Here’s Able Sisters- Sable and Mable from Animal Crossing. He’s been tormenting me to play it for ages so here. Please stop.” 

The familiar song came on. I groaned quickly, shutting it off.

“Haha!” Tommy crowed. “I finally got him to do it!” 

His victory rant was cut off as the ferry’s horn blasted above us. 

“There’s no radio reception on the island.” Tommy continued. “I’m glad I got to hear it before it went totally kaput.”

“If we can’t use it, why’d you bring it? Not just for the boat?” Eret inquired.

“Um, no. You’ll see. Don’t expect too much but… nah. It’ll be fun. I won’t undercook it.” Tommy waved his hands mysteriously. “You’ll see.”

We all shut up as the boat began nearing the dock. The old man running the ship helped us get off, before pulling away again. 

“Oh boy! Smell that clean air, lads! This ain’t city livin’!” Tommy gestured to the now dark heavens. “My other friends should be up around the bend.”

“Actually,” Eret said nervously, waiting at the top of the dock stairs. “I mean, I don’t mean to be the guy to break us up already, but Tommy, could you do me a favor? Can I have two quick minutes with Fundy?”

“Uh… you sure?” Tommy hesitated. I glanced back up at Eret. The older boy seemed sincere.

“Something wrong?” I wondered.

“Nothing’s wrong. I just need a minute.” Eret glanced at the street light above.

“Alright, but- Look, I don’t wanna go up by myself. I mean, can’t we just stick together? You’re gonna have all night to say, like… whatever.” Tommy pleaded, using his puppy dog eyes. 

“But you were going to meet your friends, right?”

“Yeah but there further-”

“Tommy, it’s alright. Just wait for us at the end of the town, okay?  We’ll catch up with you there.” I reasoned. 

“Alright.” Tommy sighed, walking off. “Though this is a really strange way to start off, splitting up.”

“Thanks man!” Eret called after him, before turning to me. “He seems nice. Funny.”

“Yeah, he’s… what did you want to talk about? Before I suspect something nefarious.” I teased, coming back to the top of the stairs. 

“Listen, I just wanted to grab you ahead of time and say you’ve been…. Cool… about everything. And I guess it’s just - for me, I’ve never moved anywhere, ya know? And, like, getting a new family at the same time kinda feels like I’m skipping the training wheels.”

“Not that it’s bad! You and your mum have been great!”

“Eh, we’ll make do.” I nudged Eret playfully. “Lemons, lemonade, however that goes.”

“You idiot.” Eret and I laughed. 

“Oh, thanks for setting up the attic for me, by the way. It’s cool, how it’s a little bedroom.” 

“No problem…” I looked at the dark water. I really didn’t want to touch that subject. “It’s nice, at night, isn’t it?”

“Yeah. Not chilly.” Eret nodded. “We can- we can catch back up with Tommy now. I didn’t mean to take so long.”

We walked down the stairs into the parking lot. Commenting on the lonely car, I noticed a blocked off road. I decided to ignore it in favor of heading up the long staircase to the little shops that made the town of the island. 

“Oh, what’s that?” Eret pointed at the statue as we reached the top. A bird on a pedestal with a whale below it. 

“I forgot this was even here.” I chuckled. “It’s a monument to some submarine that was sunk off the coast.”

“Oh, wait. Can’t you do that radio guide thing like the boat said?” Eret looked excited. “I wanna see how it works.

“Sure.” I pulled the thing out of my pocket.

“It was…. 101 or 102, I think.”

I found the station. The voice of some tour guide came on. 

“Named after the Hawiian god of the sea, the USS Kanaloa was launched on January 15, 1941 and commissioned into service at the end of that year under the command of Lt. C. Dream...”

“Never heard of this before. Kinda creepy in a way, right?” Eret murmured. 

“On October 28, 1943, it was sunk by the Japanese sub chaser Tokisada some 25 miles off the coast of Washington…”

“Yeah, I hate thinking about it. It reminds me of those scenes in movies where sailors have to seal somebody up to drown or else the flooding will take the whole ship, you know?” I shivered at the idea.

“... and remains, to this day, the only submarine casualty in American waters. Eighty-five officers, as well as twelve Army passengers, were lost.”

“Yeah, no. I always thought submarine duty was, like, the worst possible war assignment. There’s no way out if something goes wrong.”

I turned off the radio as the recording began again. We continued through the town. All the stores were closed. Probably because it was starting to become winter and we took the last ferry here. 

“Hello kids. The other guys and gals must be further up, so be quick now.” Tommy’s voice suddenly called from the top of a ramp. We laughed, running up to him. 

“Okay, speed-read definition of Edwards Island. This is a tourist trap with shops and beach. Nobody lives here except some geriatric named Mr. Halo. But, cross my heart and hope to die, we’ll never mention him or any other old person’s name again.”

“We are here to drink and be stupid. A tradition apparently started by bored recruits in the nineteen fifties who would sneak dates over from the coastal towns. They literally called it ‘trawling’.”

“Wow, interesting.” I lightly mocked. Eret snorted behind me.

“Yeah, like kids at camp or something.” Tommy shrugged. “So, to summarize, we are not allowed here after dark. The town is shut down, and we - the L’manberg High Junior Class- have come to commit improper acts.”

We came to a fence just taller than me. I frowned, glancing at Tommy. 

“The beaten path officially ends here. The beach is past the fence a way. I think Nikki told me that there’s a way that they used to get over there, but… I can’t remember how. I mean, can’t be too difficult.” Tommy looked around.

“Dumpster?” Eret pointed to the relatively empty bin sitting by the edge of the path. 

“Perfect, we can push it over and close the lid.” I got beside him and helped. 

“And the other thing about this nowhere island,” Tommy stayed back to finish his story. “Is the weirdo caves.”

“The weirdo caves?” Eret echoed incredulously. 

“The whole reason Fundy brought the radio is because when you go to the- it’s like ‘front’--

“The mouth.” I supplied.

“The mouth of this particular cave, you can sometimes pick up frequencies to stations that don’t exist.” Tommy grinned. “You’ll hear voices or just... sounds… And they’re impossible to get anywhere else on the island. Crazy, right?”

“It’s, um, it’s pretty creepy… at least I’ve heard.” Eret and I managed to get the dumpster into place. 

“I did it once. It’s amazing when it works.” 

“Okay, back up a minute here. What about that Mr. Halo guy? Is he the saint for the island or something?” Eret looked back at the town below us. 

“His family, I think, like owns or owned some of the island or something… he’s been shackled in the same spot for like seventy years. He’s kind of what you’d call a local legend. His house is on the other side of the woods.”

“I can’t imagine living in the same exact house looking at the same exact wall for that long a time.” I climbed up the dumpster and hopped over the fence. The other two joined me a heartbeat later.

We walked down the path, finding the trail that dipped down to the beach.

“Oh, before we get there, I should mention-” 

Tommy was cut off by laughter. 

“Who’s that?” Eret asked from behind me.

I unfollowed them a while ago b/c I was unhappy with their constantly slipping purity culture rhetoric into their anti-racist posts. What are your views on purity culture? Esp. regarding fans of color who've been harmed by both racism *and* religious/cultural purity policing? Asking honestly, not accusingly.

Hello! Mod P. is here. Well, this is a bit awkward, because Holly (DHF) is one of our mods here. Mod Finn, the founder of this blog invited both of us when she started the blog, but now that most of the other mods have left us (because of RL reasons, and lack of time), I’m the most active one here, and Holly is one of our silent mods. So, make of that what you will.

As for your question about purity culture / religious policing.

I’m an Asian woman (Kalmyk) in my mid 30s, disabled. I’m a Buddhist, not really religious – as in I follow some religious traditions that my family part takes, but mostly I’m rather illiterate regarding the whole Buddhist theology stuff (I’m more acquainted with the Christian mythology and theology in theory, for example, because it’s integral part of the Western culture). I grew up in a secular society, so I really can’t speak of the experiences of the people of color that grew up in a strict religious environment. Personally for me, in general, purity culture in a religious sense is an alien subject and I’m definitely against the idea of forcing it on others.

If we’re talking about purity culture in fandom spaces, we’ll have to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, because the white fandom / pro ship people usually mix everything into one pile, often with the intention to gaslight and shut the discussions about racism, and antiblackness specifically. Even on the fanlore page of “purity culture” description they pile up racism / homophobia etc.

I don’t know how you define the term “purity culture”, as for myself, I usually stay away from the discours, but as far as incest / pedophilia kinks, for example, it’s actively not my thing. Like, when I was in the TWD fandom, I blocked people who shipped Carl/Daryl or Carl/Negan on sight. Things like Winc*st or J2 is not my thing, but also ships like Winc*st or RPFs J2 don’t bother me personally, as long as they stay in their line (also, I don’t bother going to white fandoms like SPN), and don’t overlap into the racism / homophobia etc. sphere. I don’t care about RP shippers, as long as they stay in their corner, and don’t harass real people like wives or actors / etc. they deem as a “threat” to their fantasy ship.

That being said, we have to talk about nuances and context. For example, in the Shadowhunters fandom the people who shipped J*lec would present things as if they were being harassed by the “purity culture people”, who called their ship “incestuous” (because J@ce and Alec were raised together). I never used that angle in my criticism of the ship, I always criticized it for its racism and racialized homophobia, because all J*lec shippers are/were actively racist and anti-Asian towards Magnus, used very racist and orientalist rhetoric to discredit Malec and Harry Shum Jr. (the actor who portrayed Magnus). In short, whether J@lec is an incest or not, isn’t my concern, but the fact that it IS an inherently racist and a homophobic ship, that actively erases the canon narrative of a bisexual Asian character, does concern me.

Another example is Michael/Eleanor ship from TGP, from what I’ve seen, the ship is often criticized by the non Black / white fans because of the age gap between the actors or because of the father/daughter dynamics between the two. For my part, I couldn’t care less about either. What I do care about is the fact that most Michael/Eleanor shippers happen to be people who almost never ship characters of color or IR ships. I do care about the fact that this white crack ship actively erases the canon narrative of the Black male character.

I don’t support attacking the authors who write explicit sex scenes. But I do understand the criticism of MLM fetishzation coming from gay men in fandom. And I do understand criticism when fandom tries to discredit IR ships of ships of color in media and write them off as “bad lgbt rep” because these ships don’t have explicit sex scenes on screen, like their favorite white MLMs.

I do understand and support the criticism of the “slave fics” coming from Black fans.

And yes, I do believe that there needs to be some anti racist policy on AO3, that prevents fans of color, and Black fans specifically, from seeing racist fanworks in the threads of characters of color. I don’t want to see J@lec fics in Magnus Bane thread, where Magnus is an abusive asshole and Alec is saved by his “true love” Jace. I don’t want to see fics in Glenn Rhee thread, where Maggie cheats on Glenn with Daryl, while oblivious Glenn is right in the next room. I don’t ever want to see fics in Sam Wilson’s thread, where he is a slave owner and rapes and abuses the white MCU characters, or anything like that horrid that Finnpoe Jim Crow fic.

I don’t believe in “ship and let ship” idea, because racist shippers never stay in their lane, they’re always in the tags of characters of color / ships of color with their gaslighting and coded racist hate. I do believe that Franzeska’s infamous meta is a big pile of racist BS.

That being said, I’ve known Holly (DHF) for almost ten years now and I’ve never seen her being pro purity culture in any way.

The synopsis definitely has my attention and I’d like to read more diverse fantasy for sure. (However, I am also a little concerned as I’ve heard a lot of people say that its very very similar to A Darker Shade of Magic – which I have read.)

With it being a Fairyloot box too the cover is also an exclusive, as you can see here we have a lovely blue design which I actually think looks better than the original red one. This is just one side of the book sleeve – the other featuring fanart of Kell and Lila – but I absolutely love this item.

It’s a much better quality of fabric compared to their previous book sleeves; thicker and more protective fabric for sure.

But also! It is so big that it can fit The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon inside. How amazing right?!

Overall I enjoyed this box but it was possibly my least favourite of the four I got this month. Simply because some of the items I really have no use for and have started rehoming (the tea strainer, small notebook, and possibly badge). Hopefully the book is fab so I feel like I got my money’s worth!
