Investigation Team stuff from the dev corner in Persona Club P4

This was originally worded as a QA but I simplified it down to just what the dev responses were

Protag:

In Chie's SLink, the protag offers to "Do an impression of another Takeshi". In English, this was translated as "tell a joke". The "other Takeshi" is referring to Beat Takeshi / Takeshi Kitano.

The protag keeps a porno mag stash "that thing" under his futon. "That thing" remains under his futon even when he sleeps on top of it. Perhaps that's why he has random dreams about a random Social Link sometimes...

The protag isn't used to cooking since he has lived with his parents until shortly before the game started, but he's fairly good at it. Motherly, if you will.

The protagonist's knitting ability didn't improve much even after the ending of Kanji's rank 10 where he teaches him how to make a (frilly) animal oven mitt. The devs assume Kanji would like to keep teaching him, but the protag probably isn't interested in it. (In one of the dungeon chats with Kanji and Yosuke, it's mentioned that Tatsumi-ya sells frilly potholders, and the devs parenthesis'd the frilly part here in their response, suggesting the one the protag made with Kanji was also frilly. Show us the frilly animal potholder that the protagonist made, Atlus.)

Yosuke:

One of the cut scenes from P4 was Yosuke riding his bike right into the Samegawa

When Chie bought clothes w/Yosuke's money, she dipped into his scooter funds, so Chie thinks she did him a solid b/c scooter = dangerous (Book was from before Golden)

Yosuke dislikes tofu cause he thinks it's bland. He dislikes konjac jelly for the same reason.

He listens to popular and/or catchy music

Jiraiya's luck stat being so low is because the man is unlucky / has shit timing.

Chie:

Cats, such as the one on the school roof, are attracted to Chie because she smells like meat and/or carries around meat-related snacks

Aside from meat, Chie loves junk food like the croquette from Souzai and sweets/snacks from Shiroku

Chie's "club" is her practicing her own style of kung fu which she calls the Kung Fu Research Club. But on rainy days, it instead turns into the Meat Research Club.

Chie likes kung fu because she grew up around boys and watched stuff made for boys

Yukiko:

Yukiko doesn't like standing out, but wears red because Chie told her it looks good (iirc Yukiko says this if you pick her to go skiing with in Golden, but this book is from like 4 years before Golden)

Yukiko is banned from going grocery shopping because she mixes up all of the ingredients (when you meet her in Portable, she offers to help Kasai go grocery shopping, and Kasai is like "uhhhhhhhh")

Originally her rank 10 romance slink was going to uhh get pretty suggestive when the protag invited her on to his futon

Kanji:

Kanji picked out his necklace because he thought it was cool and he had no idea that it was a locket until his mom told him. Instead of perhaps a photo of his dead father, Atlus believes he's the kind of guy who would keep a photo of cute cat as like a mental wellness thing.

Kanji doesn't want to join the arts and crafts club at school cause he knows that his presence would frighten/upset the members, but he ironically has no idea that him standing outside their club room and staring in all of the time also scares the shit out of them

Kanji still hasn't figured out the answer to the "homework" that Naoto gave him, nor has Naoto told him the answer yet. (I believe this is referring to one of their dungeon chats? In the JP game, Naoto asks if Kanji has finished his "quiz" yet.)

Rise:

Rise helps out at the tofu shop mostly in the morning so she is free after school hence why she sometimes can be seen hanging around outside the store after school / on other days

Rise has been an idol for a little under 2 years. She has 2 photobooks and one of her songs was used in a CM. She doesn't have many photobooks or CDs yet cause she didn't start selling well until more recently.

Rise likes spicy food and cooks based on color rather than taste. She has tried to make red tofu before, but her grandma makes her use traditional recipes at the store.

Naoto:

Naoto isn't gifted at baking, she just made the other girls use a cookbook. (This is brought up by Rise during the Golden skiing trip, but again this book is from like 2008 or 2009.)

Naoto's real name is Naoto (gender neutral). Her parents didn't name her that way because they wanted to raise her as a boy, but rather they wanted to avoid naming her something feminine because they thought she would become a detective.

Naoto's girl uniform has a longer skirt than normal because it was picked out by Yakushiji, her grandfather's secretary.

Teddie:

Atlus has no idea how Teddie can make glasses, how his bear outfit works, or how his human form fits inside the bear. They call of this "Teddie Power" and for the bear suit, compare it to Schrodinger's Cat lol. (In the Golden fan book, they later said that Teddie makes the glasses using materials from an eyeglasses store in the TV World version of Inaba.)

Teddie has a cell phone that Yosuke bought for him. Teddie decorated out himself. Yosuke also pays for all of Teddie's other expenses, like his phone bill and his food.

Teddie mentions that since he's lived in the TV for a long time, he has ways of making himself feel at home. The devs suggest he has some kind of like, Teddie Cave or hut somewhere in the TV World that he resides in. Since getting a human form, he started living in Yosuke's closet instead. (Book was pre-Arena, before they actually showed Teddie living there lol)

Regrettably, there's no Adachi dev q+a in Persona Club P4 lol

so yesterday i was thinking (big surprise) about a variety of things in regards to persona 4

1) naoto and how i can rewrite... everything that happened there (regardless of how you interpret naotos character i think we can all agree it was poorly executed) 2) yukirise.

this is not going to be a post about naoto, i'll save that for another time, this is about YUKIRISE!!!!! the trip to tatsumi port island!!! they talked so much!?!?!!!!!!!

since right before this scene, rise is the one who brings up the kings game and says she wants to play, this is implying that yukiko learned the rules THROUGH rise. something something rise mischief starter, yukiko mischief enabler

i know they're "drunk" in this scene but it's still a pretty in-character thing for rise to blab to yukiko about those sorts of things and for yukiko to find it amusing. because there's no way those two just decided "ok let's do this" on the spot, this had to be premeditated shenanigans

they're scheming. they're being silly and diabolical. we see this side of rise pretty often but i don't think we get it with yukiko and it's soooo cute that rise brings it out of her. urguhurf

and it's not like they're just talking this much because they're "drunk", because teddie is acting that way as well (probably just imitating the behaviours of people around him) and he isn't engaging with them this much....

granted, in this part of the scene hes tackled kanji and they're off-screen but that doesn't even last for more than a few seconds!! SO!!! YUKIRISEEEEEE

and they're never shown to wake up after this. so i'm going to assume they had to carry the two of them back to the hotel.

this supports my case i think

they would have to drag these 2 back to the same room.... maybe they put them on the same bed..... maybe they cuddled in their sleep........... now its just wishful thinking :')

they're not just interacting while "drunk"!!!

rise talking about the noodles is one thing. yukiko eating the same thing as her is another. the implication that rise discussed the food with her and yukiko decided she wanted to get experimental thanks to rise's influence in that last line is a huge thing!

to me. to me

rise is so fun and adventurous and out there while yukiko has been following the same routine all her life and i really like the idea that rise helps her get out of her comfort zone and try new things. i like that. i like them :C

anyways. my conclusion is that yukirise real. whether thats platonic or romantic (or maybe... queerplatonic) idc, i just really love these two as a dynamic and i crave MOOOOOORRRRREEEEEEE

I don't know why, but I feel like he'd be allergic to cats. Yeah they're cute and he does like the furrie little guys, but damn his allergies.

He'd still try to grin and bear it with going to a cat cafe with you. This is making you happy so he'll be fine. Just don't mind how many tissues he's using.

On the inside he is dying. On the outside, he's trying to make sure you're having a good time. Even if you mention being okay to leave, he tells you that a little cat fur won't ruin the date.

Kou

Might make a comment about being covered in cat hair, but he doesn't mind the place. As much as he loves Aiya, the change of pace is nice.

Kou can't help but snicker a bit when a cat jumps up while you're in the middle of telling him something. He shoos them away because this is his date, not theirs.

If the cafe also sells like clothing or something then he'll absolutely buy you and him matching t-shirts so he can tease you about it.

Naoki

Honestly a cat cafe date is exactly what he needs. Between the stress of school and family, he is happy to relax and play with some cats while you both wait on your food.

He would fall in love with a cat but have to resist the temptation to get one. Naoki might mention it to his parents later to see about adopting the cat.

But he really enjoys the cat cafe. Would absolutely go on a lot of dates with you there.

okay since im very frustrated about how yukiko, kanji, and rise were treated in their midnight channels/dungeons, im going to do a little bit of spitballing for funsies.

yukiko amagi:

is insecure in her own abilities

feels failed by her best friend, chie

this manifests on the midnight channel as a search for "a prince", and in her boss as a bird in a gilded cage. im actually a big fan of the birdcage fight because a) the design is pretty cool and b) mmm cage metaphor. so that's staying. however, her dungeon sucks ass, but i can think of a half-decent alternative: a haunted mansion.

keep the castle aesthetic but run it down a little further. make it nice and dingy. the midnight channel follows yukiko through this mansion, trying to escape but failing in increasingly incompetent ways (this is notably very out of character for her, but does illustrate how she feels about herself). at the end of the midnight channel that you see, she curls up in a corner and begs someone to save her, possibly making reference to someone who failed her before.

kanji tatsumi:

is terrified of rejection

is a closeted bisexual

somehow, this is almost the most reasonable of the three dungeons in terms of the whole sexualization deal; a closeted queer kid would naturally have some crazy thoughts going through their head about their object(s) of attraction. does that justify it? NO. i dont feel comfortable making his narrative less queer because that would suck, but it needs to change for sure.

the midnight channel could easily play into this: kanji is a guest on a talk show, in which multiple faceless men sit around him and compliment him so so much. it could easily be done in a way that makes the intrinsic gayness obvious.

the dungeon would also have to change, but i have just the idea for it. kanji is stated to be very interested in clothcraft, something that he is very insecure about. the dungeon could have walls and doors fashioned from lavish cloth, designed as though they were about to open up onto a talk show (see the previous paragraph).

and finally comes the boss. once again, the design is less egregious than some other elements of his storyline, but kanji's is much worse than yukiko's. the Nice Guy and Tough Guy enemies can stay, as they're the main gimmick of the fight and i'd hate to let them go. they could transform from the hosts of the talk show. as for shadow kanji himself, i feel like it would still make sense to play into the overt masculinity aspect that was included in the canon design (transfers well into take-mikazuchi and kanji's overall physicality, which went largely unmentioned in his storyline). i dont have many other notes because i am Not Good at coming up with boss designs unless i can be all high fantasy about it.

rise kujikawa:

is much smarter than she lets in on

is unsatisfied/angry at showbiz (inferred from actions)

feels conflicted about her split identity as a person and as an idol

now, where could we go with this? maybe not a fucking strip club. maybe not that. nonetheless, there's some very cool material to work with her.

her midnight channel could be a sort of reversal of her actual one that also plays into her intelligence, and elements of misanthropy that i feel could easily sprout in the mind of a young woman put on display for all the world to see. it is once again a talk show/game show type thing, only this time with rise hosting. over and over, new guests are introduced with descriptions of their lives, with their families present, and then have dark secrets of theirs exposed. maybe foreshadow the scan attack that shadow rise uses. this notably a) is the reverse of how rise's life has been so far; instead of putting herself on display, she lays others bare, b) plays into a possible dislike of humanity as a whole, shown through her shadow's callousness towards other's secrets, and c) would be INSANELY scandalous if it got out, just like her actual midnight channel.

no ideas for the dungeon, but i've got a cool one for the boss. first, keep the satellite head. there is one good part about her canon boss design and it is the face. however, not much has been done thus far about her "there is no real me" deal. thus, the boss is vaguely humanoid but has three heads. one is the satellite, representing her intelligence and dislike of humanity. another represents risette the false, and a third, stuffed behind the other two, represents rise as an ordinary person. shadow rise is already the most humanoid of the bosses so far, so why not play into that a little but add some fun body horror?

and thats my little rant thing. hope you liked it.

“Where the hell'd I...”

Most people knew their house like the back of their hand: same went for Kanji, who was pretty damn sure his jacket hadn't fallen 'between the couch cushions, nor did he really think it was possible. It couldn't have been that small, right? Maybe Yu-senpai or Yosuke's could'a, but not Kanji's. While the textile shop held comfort, it also had a rotten tendency to let heat slip from its grasp, so wearing a jacket indoors wasn't entirely weird. He'd been meaning to look around, patch whatever hole needed patching, and seek an end to it... but work was busy, and schoolwork was unforgivable.

“'Least I found the remote,” which was Kanji's original goal, their movie having abruptly stopped for no reason, messing up the element of suspense it had been building for the last half hour. “Here, you can find someth...”

Turning on his heel, Kanji expected one of two things: Sam to have fallen asleep in the time it took him to return to their movie, or to have gotten up to raid his fridge. Both he would've been fine with (even if her being asleep meant they had last time together, but those thoughts were hastily batted away), but... but he didn't expect a third option, or for the option to have been this.

It took no time for heat to climb to the very tips of his ears, one thought in mind: holy shit she's cute. Kanji hadn't thought of it before, someone wanting to wear his jacket, or anything like that - but she had done so without any grandiose speech, or made a big deal about it. It was less like a jacket and more like a blanket with how huge it was on her, and suddenly the warmth of his cheeks made him forget about the occasional wisp of cool air.

Remote in-hand, Kanji returned to his seat without another word, his proposal never fully escaping his lips... until he tossed the remote in her lap, decisively looking away, chin cradled by his palm.

“Find, find whatever you feel like watchin'. I uh, made sure to pay for premium channels.”

After all, Kanji doubted he'd be able to focus on any guide. Who knew a person, something other than a fuzzy cat or a fluffy dog, could be so cute?!

Stand Name: Ghost Song

Basis: The Ghost Song, by Jim Morrinson

Appearance: Ghost Song is a humanoid Stand dressed entirely in a black outfit identical to those stereotypically worn by American biker gangs, save for the dull lavender stitching lining the entire ensemble. It also wears a motorcycle helmet at all times, and a bright light like a headlight occasionally shines through the visor when the user is feeling intense emotions.

Abilities: Ghost Song’s primary ability is to create passageways -by touching a wall or other solid object, a gateway to whatever is on the other side of that object will appear. The user and Ghost Song itself will be able to go through any of the doorways regardless of size, but if he wishes to bring any passengers with him, the gateway will have to be able to accommodate them.

Okay, so we all want the Persona 3 and Persona 4 crews to be in Persona 5 Scramble, but I have some concerns.

1. We know that they want to keep them as their marketable selves, remember for Arena they had them during Golden Week, before the Golden True Ending, and in Dancign All Night they changed ther looks back to their o.g. looks (Kanji rebleaching his hair). Everyone seems like they can be the same but Kanji wouldn’t be the same with his secretary look. Do you honestly think Atlus will let us have a full game without punk Kanji?

2. Based on the P3 Story ending in Ultimax, with the Shadow Operatives being strangled by red tape, that honestly feels like it is the in-universe reason as to why the P3 crew can’t just swoop in and solve the plot anymore. I doubt that Atlus wants to keep on having to refer back to the previous game swhever they want to do somethign new. They want to make each game their own stand alone thing. As cool as it would be to have a big army of persona users, I don’t think the Shadow Ops or Investigation Team are going to be shown, even though it’d be nice to go to Tatsumi Port Island or Inaba at least as DLC.

I doubt it’ll be due to not being able to get the VAs b/c they should still be active due to BBTAG (except Junpei due to the shit going on with his VA).

I initially wanted a social link in Persona Effect to be a descendant of the Shirogane line, named Kanji Shirogane, who worked for C-Sec. Probably the Star S-link.

I then realized I would have no idea what to do with them. I moved the Star S-link to the protag’s Salarian Teacher Bob, who I have really good ideas for.

Might cameo the Tatsumi and Shirogane descendants, along other descendants of the investigation team, when I go to Inaba during the 2 years between ME1 and ME2, after the party is assembled.
