naoki already doesn't like yosuke a lot, but knowing that this was the guy you dated before him does bother him quite a bit

yosuke had always been a good boyfriend to you and the two of you split up on good terms, remaining friends afterwards, yet naoki does wish just a little bit that you'd dislike yosuke as well

deep down, naoki feels bad about how he thinks of yosuke, but he can't help himself

it also doesn't help that the two of you often run into yosuke during dates, since inaba is such a small city

whenever you go to the mall, yosuke is there. whenever you're at school, yosuke is there. even when you're eating at aiya or just walking near the river, yosuke is likely there as well! 

it bothers naoki, but over time, he learns to accept it. he knows that he has no reason to see yosuke as a rival, since you already made your choice: and you chose him, not yosuke! 

and eventually, he even manages to exchange a few words with yosuke and build a somewhat friendly relationship with him

while naoki will never be yosuke's friend, he can at least learn to tolerate him, for your sake

He already scolded you gently when you laid in his lap, knowing you’d get scolded worse by teachers if they saw you both sitting like this in the library. But he left it alone as he focused on studying.

When he’s done, he’s asking if you’re ready to go before he realizes you’re asleep. His eyes soften, and he gives your back a light massage before waking you up.

Hidetoshi apologizes for taking so long that you fell asleep, but he promises to actually give you cuddles when you both get to your place.

Naoki

He goes completely still. Naoki wasn’t expecting you to fall asleep on him; now he doesn’t know what to do.

Obviously, he enjoys the fact you trust him enough to fall asleep on him, but now he doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t want to move and wake you up, but he also doesn’t want you to have neck or back pain for sleeping on his lap like this.

Naoki sighs and lets you sleep for a moment before he lightly shakes you awake. He apologizes softly for waking you before helping you lay in his bed, tucking you in before exiting so you can get some actual sleep.

Hidetoshi

He raises an eyebrow when he sees he's gotten a text from you. You're both in the same room. He can look up from his desk and see you, so he doesn't know why you texted him.

Hidetoshi checks and can't help being a bit flustered when it's a photo of him. He can tell immediately from the angle that you took it earlier when he was focused on studying. He looks up and rolls his eyes playfully when you make eye contact.

"You're lucky I don't take your phone away during club activities," he tells you, but the smile on his face lets you know that he's not too upset about it.

Naoki

He fully expects the text he has to be from his parents so he doesn’t look at the actual sender, just opening it. Naoki is definitely confused when he sees it’s of him standing by his locker.

When he does look at the sender and sees the photos are from you, an amused smile crosses his face and he glances up, looking around before seeing you just as you take another photo of him.

Naoki rolls his eyes as you send him that photo before making your way over to him. “You’re a dork,” he mutters and shakes his head, but he does his best to take a photo of you when you don’t realize.

Hidetoshi

It is very time and place with him. He doesn't mind you being overly affectionate in private. But if he's at school and suddenly you wrap your arms around him from behind, then he'll be a bit pouty.

Hidetoshi likes others knowing that he partner, but he can only deal with so much teasing from others because you come up and kiss him or something. Not to mention, teachers look down on students that engage in PDA and he doesn't want either of you to get in trouble.

So if you two are hanging out at his or your house and suddenly you wrap your arms around him from behind when he's focused on other things, then he's more likely to melt into the hug and give you a kiss back.

Naoki

The last person that would surprise him with hugs was his sister. So having you suddenly pull him into a hug makes him melt a bit. He's kind of touch starved so he very much enjoys your affection.

Naoki also would prefer you to be affectionate in private, just because he doesn't want to deal with whatever rumors or gossip students at school would spread at you being so cuddly with him. He's dealt with enough gossip around him, he doesn't want you getting involved with that too.

When you two are alone, Naoki is more than happy to just let you hold him and press kisses to his cheeks. He doesn't want you to smother him, but he enjoys letting you care for him.

He's not a big fan of the cold, his hands get cold easily and snow is a nightmare to clean up. Would be mid rant about how dirty snow actually is too, only for him to get decked in the face by a snowball you threw.

It startles him and he has to reboot for a moment before rolling his eyes at you, but there's amusement on his face. "I suppose some people enjoy the snow. Real mature."

You're already packing together another snowball and he pouts a bit before moving to get cover when you throw it at him. He still thinks this is a bit childish, but the laughs coming from you are enough for him to just go along with it.

Naoki

Also not a fan of the cold, but watching snow fall is nice. He's much quicker to notice you having a mischievous expression on your face. Naoki does his best to dart away, but still feels the snow hit his back.

"Don't get too confident!" He'd exclaim, smiling as he can't remember the last time he had a snowball fight. Well, he can, but he'd prefer not to think about it. Instead, Naoki does his best to make his own snowball to retaliate.

Is the first one to wave a white flag though. It's getting too cold and he thinks you owe him for throwing the first snowball. You get to buy lunch for the two of you.

Jokes aside, since I've moved to the country, the night sky is so freaking clear and so damn pretty. Stargazing is the best.

Kou

Idk if Japanese schools do the lock in day thing (where you stay the night at the highschool), but I can imagine that happening and Kou wants to go to the school roof with you.

He absolutely suggests the idea because it sounds romantic as hell and wants to impress you. Is a bit bummed out that it looks like other couples had the same idea, but he brought a blanket and his jacket so you and him stay longer since others get cold and leave.

Like Yu, Kou will tell you stories about constellations, except they're made up. He just wants to try and impress you by pointing out stars that look like they could make a shape. Like see, S/O, that constellation is a heart. Meaning you should kiss him or something.

Naoki

He wanted to get away from his family a little bit and asked you to meet with him on a hill that overlooks the town. It's just at an area away from everything and where he can just be with his thoughts and you.

Didn't really intend for it to become a date for stargazing, but he doesn't complain. Especially since it's just a really nice moment with you watching the stars and seeing how pretty the night sky is.

Naoki will feel bad if you start getting cold because he didn't really think to bring an extra jacket. You can have his and he'll deal with freezing.

Yu

He's found so many good spots around Inaba that when you suggest stargazing, he's got you. Okay but stargazing by the riverbank? Having the moon and stars reflected on the water? Very romantic.

Yu makes sure to bring a few blankets and one of his jackets in case it gets cold (which it might due to the close proximity of the water). He makes sure to cuddle you to provide extra warmth.

His social stats are maxed, he's read books about different constellations and points them out as well as facts and some history about them too.

Narukami

Yu is very smart already, having his stats maxed (not that you know what that means), so a study date is him making notes and smiling as he does his best with helping you on subjects.

Does try to sneak some snacks into the library while you're studying. Food helps boost your brain so he wants to make sure you're eating and studying. Due to you looking over books, he'll be happy to feed you some dark chocolate or whatever.

You get a lot of motivational support from him as he is so patient and understanding (he's like saintly). Even if you're getting frustrated by certain questions or subjects then he'll gladly explain in a way that is actually helpful.

Kou

His grades are actually pretty good. Not top ten material, but definitely upper percentile. It's not that he likes studying, just that he knows he needs good grades if he wants to stay in Basketball (and because he does want to make his family proud).

So studying with him has him getting you flashcards or showing you things he's highlighted in his notebook. While it sounds like he puts a lot of effort in it, and he does, it's honestly kind of a mess to read to anyone besides him.

But still he wants to help you as best as he can. If he notices you getting frustrated then he's glad to take a break with you for snacks and something to drink.

Daisuke

Average to above average grades for Daisuke. You'd think with his fear of failure that he'd be top in the class, but he also doesn't want the stress of being on top and then seeing his grades drop for whatever reason so he tries not to stress himself about it.

But still, he's very helpful with showing you study methods and such. He splits up the material so you're both not cramming too much information into your brain. Honestly really good at helping you study even if he seems like he'd be bad.

And you can bet that he brings all kinds of energy bars and sports drinks to hydrate and keep you from being hungry. It might end up being a bit too much, but it's brain food and he wants to be helpful to you.

Naoki

Honestly, he really needs this study date. Not that his grades are awful, but they've just dropped a lot. He does apologize that he doesn't know how good he'll be when it comes to studying but he'll try.

Really you're the one that has to keep him focused and doing your best to show him notes and remind him of details that were mentioned in class. He just ends up zoning out a lot in class.

Naoki gladly takes you out to eat after the study session. It's the least he can do with how patient and helpful you were for him. He does promise he'll study more on his own and he has a new goal in mind of wanting to make you proud with doing good on the test.

"Aw, don't you look cute." He hears you say as he walks out of his bathroom, dressed up in the stereotypical dracula-type costume. He's got fake fangs in, some fake blood splattered on his shirt and around his mouth, and makeup to make him look more pale and like he's undead.

And instead of complimenting his outfit or saying that he did a good job with looking like a scary vampire, you called him cute. Naoki can't help playfully rolling his eyes at you. "Cute? No, this was supposed to be creepy!" He exclaims as if he's offended, but he's not.

Naoki supposes that it's a good thing that he's not super scary since he doesn't want to scare any little kids that come by the shop or freak anyone out too badly. Naoki felt a soft warmth spread through his chest; he also would love for this moment to last forever. The idea of being able to stay here with you instead of returning to the world around you was a very nice thought.

But it is just a thought. He knows that time keeps moving on even if he wishes to just stay and remember the happy moments. You get a soft smile from him as he sighs.

Summer had arrived in Inaba, and it was awful. Naoki couldn't walk anywhere without swelting. It didn't matter how high the AC in the shop or even at school was, it was miserable.

What was more miserable is it's the first summer without his sister. He had mourned and still does time-to-time, but he has tried to continue with his life. But sometimes it's still difficult.

"Remember that time she threw a cup of ice water at you because you kept complaining about the heat?" A smile crossed his lips as he sat next to you in the shop, both eating an ice pop as you hung out like usual.

"Yeah, I also remember how you didn't even warn me about it," he replies as he remembers the memory of years ago. You have stayed his friend through it all. And not once did you pity him. You gave your sympathies, of course, but you kept treating him like your friend. Like he wasn't going to fall apart and break even if he did feel like it sometimes.

"She said she'd pay me to keep you distracted."

He laughs at the shrug you give, and he feels a warm feeling at remembering the memory of him freezing a bit from the ice water and his sister giving you a few hundred yen. Enough to buy him his favorite snack to cheer him up. The memory is a nice one. Sure, he feels a twinge of sadness from it, but overall, it is nice.

"Do you want to visit her?" You ask him and he thinks for a moment before nodding. He did like to visit her and fill her in on what has been happening. And he especially liked when you went with him.

You stopped at a vending machine before you went to the graves. He watched as you got the drink she always liked, and he'd make a face at in the past. And he smiles as you lay it on her grave when you finally arrive.

"Hey, Saki, I haven't thrown water at your brother yet. It will happen though, I promise," you say cheekily and give him a smile while he rolls his eyes.

You both stay there and talk to her and each other. A nice breeze had picked up to combat the summer air. Time seemed to move by fast as laughter was exchanged as well as some tears now and then just from memories. And then it was time for you to both go.

You said your goodbyes to Saki as you left, walking in a bit of silence. At some point, you apologized to Naoki for the promise you made to Saki because it was still coming. Naoki just rolled his eyes again, but he knew that he made his own promise to her that he needed to fulfill too.

When you made it back to the shop, the temperature seemed to have dropped a good bit when evening approached. It was still hot, but not as awful as earlier. He listened as you said you were getting another popsicle and Naoki pulled out the paper with the speech he rewrote so many times and practiced again and again. It was when he was turned around and reading that you attacked.

"Seriously?" He questioned unamused as he felt the water hit his back. It wasn't iced, thankfully, but he still gave you a look as he turned to you. You just smiled at his reaction before noticing the paper he held and managed to keep from getting wet.

"What's that?" You asked and he went to hide it, only piquing your curiosity and making you grab it from him. Naoki froze as he watched you read, and he felt his heart pounding in his chest as you saw the words that lay on the page. "Naoki?" You asked quietly as you looked up at him after reading.

"I had wanted to make a romantic thing of it, but you ruined it," he tries to joke but it comes out more nervously. "Saki knew about my feelings before I did, and I promised her I'd confess when I realized she was right. I rewrote that stupid speech so many times but could never find the right moment," he confesses softly as he looks to you.

"I see," you mutter as you look down at the paper. He bites the inside of his mouth due to nerves as he waits for some kind of reaction. Relief hits him as you look up and give a smile. "I promised her I'd confess too."

A gentle smile crosses both of your faces as you enjoy this moment between you. A moment that is momentarily interrupted when his mother comes in and asks about the water on the floor, causing you both to quickly move to clean up.

But you both shared that happiness as you knew this just meant a new chapter in your lives. And you know that if she was with you, Saki would have given an "It took you long enough" and the biggest hug she could.

Day 18 - Secretly Dating

Note(s): I tried to do a couple different things with my writing when I was working on this. So hopefully it's still fun to read and not too messy because of it.

He doesn't know why it's kept a secret. If he mentioned that he's dating you, then he'd probably get some popularity for having a partner. He can already imagine a few boys asking him some rather personal questions in regard to his relationship... Maybe it is a good thing it's kept a secret.

But you and him also aren't necessarily trying to keep it a secret? He just doesn't see a reason to be lovey-dovey towards you in the halls. Even if seeing other couples hugging and engaging in PDA makes him wish he could do something like that with you.

It's just something that neither of you really talked about. Then again, are you two even dating? That thought starts a new line of questions in Naoki's mind. I mean, you two are definitely close and he knows he has feelings for you. You've admitted your feelings to him too. But there weren't really any labels that you both used. Crap, was he supposed to ask you out after that? But you didn't seem like you were waiting for some answer.

He gets lost in thought that he doesn't realize that class is over. He's still sitting at his desk and thinking before he comes to at seeing someone waving their hand in his face. That someone being you. He can hear some giggles from the few classmates that stayed in the classroom and Naoki's face heats up a bit before looking up at you.

"Sorry," he mutters as he gathers his things and picks up his bag. You just keep a smile on your face, amusement in your eyes, and you two begin walking home...

Maybe his family is why your relationship is kept a secret. What happened with his sister was awful and the idea that he's dating now might seem like he's moving too fast. But his parents also seem like they're trying to get their lives back together too. Also, he knows Saki would kick his ass if he did just pine from afar.

"You're lost in thought again," you murmur, and Naoki jumps a bit at being snapped back to reality. He sighs and rubs his temple as he gives you an apologetic smile.

"I guess I have a lot on my mind."

"Like what?" You ask, looking genuinely concerned and interested to know what he's thinking about.

Naoki thinks for a moment, wondering if this is a stupid question, but he asks anyway. "We're dating, right?" Your reaction tells him the question was, indeed, stupid. "Well, I guess, we haven't really done anything," he states, his words a bit awkward as he doesn't quite know how to phrase what he's thinking.

"We haven't 'done anything'?" You repeat and his eyes widen as he realizes how his words must sound. His face goes a bright red and he quickly shakes his head.

"I- I mean! We haven't held hands during school or gone on any dates," he clarifies and thinks a bit. "It just... It feels like we're hiding our relationship."

"I didn't think you liked PDA," you reply and Naoki sighs and shrugs.

"Well, it can get to be a bit much. But I want to hold your hand or kiss your cheek. And it feels like I'm not supposed to?"

Naoki doesn't get time to process what's happening before you pull him into a hug. Right there on the sidewalk that led to his home. Right where people are walking and there are some grumbles because now they need to walk around you.

"There, I'm hugging you. And now I'm going to kiss you," you say and Naoki sputters before your lips press against his and he can't help a smile. You both pull away and he notices some of his classmates that take this same path home. They're giving him thumbs ups and Naoki feels more flustered at that.

"L- Let's just go home," he mutters and you giggle at his reaction as he takes your hand without hesitation. Despite his grumbling due to being a tad embarrassed, he does feel like a weight was taken off his shoulders. Now he knows he doesn't need to hold back with affection and he needs to get you back for making him flustered.

I don't know why, but I feel like he'd be allergic to cats. Yeah they're cute and he does like the furrie little guys, but damn his allergies.

He'd still try to grin and bear it with going to a cat cafe with you. This is making you happy so he'll be fine. Just don't mind how many tissues he's using.

On the inside he is dying. On the outside, he's trying to make sure you're having a good time. Even if you mention being okay to leave, he tells you that a little cat fur won't ruin the date.

Kou can't help but snicker a bit when a cat jumps up while you're in the middle of telling him something. He shoos them away because this is his date, not theirs.

If the cafe also sells like clothing or something then he'll absolutely buy you and him matching t-shirts so he can tease you about it.

Naoki

Honestly a cat cafe date is exactly what he needs. Between the stress of school and family, he is happy to relax and play with some cats while you both wait on your food.

He would fall in love with a cat but have to resist the temptation to get one. Naoki might mention it to his parents later to see about adopting the cat.

But he really enjoys the cat cafe. Would absolutely go on a lot of dates with you there.

Lets out a yawn as he wakes up, seeing you above him. A lazy smile crosses his face as he stays laying down, letting you mess with his hair or just continue what you're doing.

Would ask if he missed anything while he slept. He hopes he didn't doze while you were mid conversation, that would be embarrassing.

Just lets out a hum as he listens to you, continuing to enjoy his position on your lap. Might have to move to keep his shoulders or neck from cramping from the position, as nice as this is he does not want the pain.

Naoki

Opens his eyes and stiffens as he sees where he fell asleep. Would softly call out to see if you are upset that he fell asleep on you.

Is glad that you don't seem to mind too terribly. He does tell you to wake up him if he does it again since he doesn't want to cause your legs to fall asleep or make you unable to get things done due to him.

Naoki does enjoy waking up to your face. He didn't think laying on your lap would be as comfortable as it is.

Mishima

Doesn't even realize what he did until he wakes up. He's blinking back being half asleep and wondering where he is. Then he glances up and sees you and puts the pieces together.

Quickly closes his eyes again, pretending that he was still asleep. Except his whole body is so stiff as he did not realize he fell asleep on your lap.

Yeah you're his S/O, but he still gets so flustered and doesn't know how to act in these situations. So he's going to pretend to be asleep and try to relax so he can enjoy laying on your lap more.
