Writing Prompts: Canon Divergent AUs - Butterfly Edition!

The idea is to change one (or a couple) aspects of canon and see how the story shifts as a result. It's a great exercise for character comprehension and of course your imagination, while still having canon as a helpful crutch. Not to mention how fun it is to see things play out differently ^_^

Tool Tip: Adding OCs/Places/Powers etc is fine but try to keep things within the rules of the source material!

Pre Start of Main Story:

-Sakumo lives/Kakashi's mystery mother actually exists

-Rin/Obito/Both live/Kakashi dies

-Kushina/Minato/Both survive

-All Uchiha/Mikoto/Fugaku/Shisui survives/Itachi stays

-Orochimaru/Tsunade/Jiraiya/All stay

-Danzo murders Hiruzen (f.e. by having him "KIA with Kyuubi")

-Ichiraku Ramen doesn't exist

-Road To Ninja it: Add a RTN character as the original's twin, or replace them entirely

-Iruka dies alongside his parents/his parents survive the Kyuubi Attack

-Itachi Boogaloo: change his behaviour during the massacre

x. (Crack) Itachi tells Sasuke to keep eating his vegetables, do his homework diligently, stay healthy and make some friends

y. Itachi tells Sasuke the truth inside the genjutsu

z. Early Concept Itachi who is just plain evil

Suggestion: The pressure and war trauma got to him and turned him into a high functioning sociopath. He only acted the part of a kind brother and murdered the Uchiha because he viewed them as weak and beneath him. He kept Sasuke alive because he views him as cute in a 'bug crawling for its life' kind of way and loves seeing his expressions of despair and rage.

Main Story:

-Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura/Kakashi dies during Wave Arc

-Haku/Zabuza/Both survive

-Gaara succeeds in killing Sakura during the Suna Ambush

-Anko takes Sasuke under her wing (curse mark connection)

-Sasuke/Naruto/Both die at VOTE1

-Naruto joins Sasuke in defecting

-Naruto and Sasuke run away together, but not to join Orochimaru

-Orochimaru Foul: He gets fed up with Sasuke's attitude and decides to keep him blind until he's ready to possess him. He steals one/both of Sasuke's eyes in an attempt to keep him docile.

x. Sasuke goes catatonic.

y. Sasuke goes ballistic. He dies/He runs.

z. Sasuke is found and rescued.

Bonuses that you can add:

a. Madara plotline doesn't exist

b. Kaguya plotline doesn't exist

c. Mix and match prompts you want together

Sakura stans are indeed pissed off about RTN Charasuke and Hinata (mobile game went all out with hearts and roses around the two) mainly b/c RTN just did a ss one and they were defending it as canon non-stop, 1-2 week later a sasuhina comes out (the timing, perfection) There so salty 'sasuke' content accounts keep cropping Hinata out and the whole ss fandom keep posting the Charasuke and Lee one (yes there one of that ship too) non stop. Amazingly now RTN content is not canon for them.

Sasusaku stans being openly clowns and having it backfire on them as usual.

Imagine your ship being so shit you have to result to crack alternative universe Sasuke that acts like the opposite of Sasuke for content.

Hey, I'm a fan of yours and I admit Naruto the Last movie IS BAD so is the novel, but the rest of the novels are not. Sakuras, Sasukes, Kakashis and so on are good and they don't contradict the manga. (And they are illustrated by Kishimoto, so its RTN its C-canon, cuzz he was involved) Boruto the movie came prior to the novel and Kishimoto was the screen writter, so the doujutsu is canon 😒, since Kishimoto said that he forgot about the abilities of the Hyuga Clan 🤣 Love from Romania 🥰

Honestly i kinda ship rtn!ino and menma and like ??? Please let me Explain. also a Lot of this is personal hcs since you don’t learn v much about rtn!ino and ofc my menma is Different then canon menma

let’s take a look at a few things

menma and ino are both kids of very famous parents they deal with this fame in very different ways tho

menma lashes out, is angry and tired of trying so hard to be his own person. he pushes people away and works himself harder and harder and harder ino, meanwhile, draws into herself. she’s aware of the expectations put on her, and i don’t doubt she’s a strong shinobi in her own right, but fighting just might not be her thing. she wants to run the flower shop and make sure her friends are okay and she’s basically everyone’s caring big sister lbr

ino is Comfortable in who she is. she’s smart and soft spoken and kind and caring and she’s not really sure if she’s the best to become head of the yamanaka but she knows she’s still got years to go on that menma meanwhile hides away who he really is to the point that he’s probs not even sure who he is anymore as long as he’s Not His Parents(tm). he doesn’t know who he is and he’s very self destructive about it.

so like ??? please give me ino helping him relearn who he is. she gives him someone to actually talk to about his feelings b/c sasuke is a playboy who he feels can’t take anything seriously and trying to hang out alone with sakura ends up with hinata on both their asses b/c they’re rivals for him that part is canon and he likes sakura sure but he doesn’t really wanna deal with hinata’s possessiveness while he’s just trying to have a heart to heart. but hinata probs doesn’t see ino as a ‘’’rival’’’ in his affections and so he can comfortably hang out with her. they have tea together and ino understands. she understands that menma is Tired and just wants to be His Own Person and menma helps ino have more self confidence in herself. he feels like ino any of his friends should have their own say in what they wanna do and encourages her to talk to her dad about working more at the flower shop. at following her dream instead of having to do what everyone else wants.

just Please give me these two learning from each other and growing into their own people w/o pressures of who they have to live up to and menma loves how tender and kind ino is and she was such pretty eyes and such a nice voice and she’s so smart and ino loves how driven menma is and while most people at this point see him as a Brat(tm) he’s always there ready with a compliment or a few kind words for any of his friends or even his parents

this got really long and i’m sorry and again this is all just my own hcs since we don’t learn like jack about these people and i’m sure people would look at this like ‘well ino has hinata’s personality and menma is just the other world’s naruto so it’s just like that’ but it’s not b/c they have different backgrounds and they grew up differently and they relate to each other differently and like ???

Ugh, it's that stupid contradictory bug-hating bug guy spraying pesticide everywhere. Sasuke watches as all the girls he's been talking to run away screaming, and he scowls, marching up to Shino. He lunges for the pesticide container to try to take it away from him.

"Can you stop? You're scaring all the girls away!"

*sees RtN!Sasuke talking about girls.* *gives Nez. A girl*

"Hey," he says smoothly. And then shoots a glance sideways at Shino. "Don't worry, I'll get Shino to get rid of all that pesticide he sprayed in the air. Just for you, Nezuko."

"Also, I--"

Sasuke stops mid-sentence, having been interrupted by the very mean Hinata. He looks over. Now, if there was one girl that was too scary to flirt with... besides, she's way into Menma, for some reason...

He'd tried once. It hadn't ended well.

So Sasuke just sighs. "Why do you care?" he asks. "It leaves you more chances to be with Menma, anyway, right?"

Sasuke is dragged -- yes, dragged -- off into a corner, so they have the cover of some plants. It does not occur to him how suspicious this is, that this is a bad idea, that Sasuke is obvious underage and shouldn't be drinking.

It also doesn't occur to him what Jiraiya's doing when the man licks his hand. "Ugh, gross," he exclaims, trying to yank his hand back. But alas, the sannin is stronger than him, and now the adult stamp has been stamped onto his hand. Sasuke looks at it for a moment, blinking.

"Huh," he says after a long pause, stunned. "Gross, but... it works."

He looks to the bar. Unfortunately for Sasuke, he's never drunk before. So he doesn't understand what a mixer is. He goes and orders sake, since it's the only thing he knows by name.

“Alright, come on.” Jiraiya dragged Sasuke away from the prying eyes from any event runners into a corner with some of the lush plants that line the area.

Stopping every few minutes to go fetch drinks like a waiter was not on his todo list. It isn’t exactly hot to be at the beck and call of a teenager when he’s here to chat up ladies. It would be announcing he’s doing something shifty. The underage stamps are red, the bar allowed stamps are black. That makes things easier.

He grabs Sasuke’s stamped hand and licked over the drying stamp. He wiped it off on his shirt before licking the now bare hand and pressing the adult stamp on his own hand to Sasuke’s hand in its place, effectively copy pasting the bar stamp.

“There. Have fun. I recommend you stick with mixers and keep them light. Girls don’t like a sloppy drunk.” He advised as he blows on his hand to dry it.

He doesn't sound too flattered.

Sasuke's thinking he could be leading him into like... a fighting arena or something like that. What he's not expecting is a piranha pit. But he probably should have. This is Kiri, after all. He looks down, but keeps his distance so he can't be pushed in easily.

"Why is it your favorite?" he asks, keeping an eye on Suigetsu. He's calm, but not unguarded.

Deserved eye-roll hidden by Suigetsu's position ahead of him. " I'm flattered. "

Just to be naughty, he walked Sasuke down maybe 4 blocks to the edge of a pier in some cavernous opening away from the open ocean. He then points down into the crystal clear waters. " The piranha pit. That's my favorite. "

The sigh Jiraiya lets out is obviously intentional, but Sasuke tries to not let it bother him. Instead, he sort of squints at the old man. Does Jiraiya attract any women usually? Sasuke could have sworn he saw the sannin with some women, but maybe they were paid, on second thought...

Either way, Jiraiya agrees with him, mentioning there is a bar. Sneak Sasuke alcohol? Huh, well, it does seem like a good idea on the surface. Maybe not so much the more he thinks about it, but Sasuke isn't a big thinker.

"Sure, why not," he says, shrugging as they make their way inside, getting their hands stamped and everything.

Jiraiya sighs loudly. Well. He did his best. He warned Sasuke fairly. But it seems too much blood has rushed to the other head for the boy to hear him correctly. Its fine. He’ll have to figure it out himself. Rejection builds character as they say.

“Right…” Jiraiya lets it go and simply agrees. He glances over the information slip again. “Looks like there’s a bar… they stamp your hand once we enter the venue.” He looks over at Sasuke. “Want to bootleg off me? The girls like a bad boy.”

Sasuke looks around. The girls are all gone now. It's pointless to even argue about this now. "What does it matter if they're ill-educated," he asks. "They're pretty. Also the spray smells bad."

He takes the pesticide and looks at Shino for a moment. "Are you okay....?" he says after a moment.

"They must be ill educated if my spray made them run. Why? Because the bugs are worse and my spray is harmless to humans." Well, that's what he always says because it has yet to cause him any harm.

When the sharingan flashes, Shino reluctantly lets go of his precious pesticide pump. "Since when are you an insect sympathizer?" It feels like betrayal.

Sasuke gives Jiraiya an odd look. Don't talk about flowers? But they're at a flower event. Why wouldn't they talk about flowers? But he doesn't say anything besides looking at Jiriaya skeptically. Sasuke believes he knows what he's doing. After all, things usually go well for him, as far as girls are concerned.

He takes the information packet, and Jiraiya again presents him with a confusing comment/question. "Cover story?" he repeats. Jiraiya thinks too much. "You're a family friend? You're here for the event? I don't know..." Again, so strange. He was just going to make it up on the fly. "I was just going to say I like flowers, too." He does tend to carry roses for girls sometimes, so he visits the flower shop a lot. Not that much of a stretch.

Oh child. It’s hard to take Sasuke’s serious tone… seriously. It’s kinda cute. So sure at how the world works when so young. He puts his hand back on the young man’s back as they approach the desk, forcing him in to whisper.

“What I mean is you’re focusing too hard on the nitty gritties. Don’t just focus on talking about flowers. You’ll bore them.” In short he was hoping Sasuke understood to talks like a.. human? Maybe obvious for most but sometimes a young man needs this kind of talk.

After chattering with worker and getting their small information packs for the event it was about time to prowl. “Did we have a cover story? We don’t exactly look like father and son. And making it obvious we’re on the hunt isn’t exactly a turn on for most women.” He said as he flipped through the small pamphlet about the event.

"You've never heard of the Uchiha?" He's actually very surprised. Is that even possible? Nevertheless, he gets over it smoothly. "How about your favorite places?" he asks. "What's your name, by the way?"

Suigetsu was trying to mind himself off away from the crowd, thumbing through a worn paperback novel. Up until he was disturbed by a singing voice calling to him.

" Never heard of them. " He has, but he's not going to get into that. " And what is it exactly that you want to see, Uchiha-san? "
