summary: After a rather nasty breakup with Bjorn you try to avoid the group as much as possible and you're doing a good job until you find yourself in Corbelan IV with your best friend. warnings: angst, not proofread, maybe ooc, swearing, part two will contain smut. a/n: This fic is very much inspired by LUNCH by Billie Eilish specifically the following lyrics "I've said it all before, but I'll say it again, I'm interested in more than just bein' your friend. You tried to ignore the continuous vibrations of your wristwatch, continuing to move away from the truck, the rough handles of the box scraping your palms. You let the box hit the ground with a loud thud, the annoying buzzing sound made you groan

It's been almost a month since you and Bjorn broke up but the hurtful words that were thrown your way still stung you. Who are you kidding, you said some nasty bullshit too.

It was always like that with Bjorn. Some laughs and good sex that left you satisfied to ignore the dysfunction in your relationship, if you can even call it.

He never called it that, never even called you his girlfriend, never asked you out, never told you how much he liked you—unless it was after sex and he was all fucked out. It was always, his ‘friend’, his ‘buddy’, his ‘something’ but you never felt like he was yours.

So all that bubbling anger and insecurity led to a fight more intense than any you’ve ever had and you stormed out.

You felt guilty every time you came up with an excuse to avoid a meeting until you simply didn't answer at all.

You did this, you distanced yourself from them and you had no right to be hurt but you couldn't help the sting that followed every time you saw the name of the caller

It was always Kay, sometimes Rain and Tyler, and you loved them all. But never the person you considered your closest friend.

Being in such a fickle situation, you often found yourself thinking who would stick around. They were all family and you were just an outsider, even if they never made you feel like it, you knew it was true.

But there was always someone that made you feel like something more. You didn’t know how, or why but she did. Navarro.

You thought you built something, a friendship and you weren't just her brother's boyfriend. But you must've been mistaken, because there wasn't a time you saw her name pop on the wristwatch.

But that didn't matter anymore.

The day was unbearable. Everything was annoying you and you had to restrain yourself from throwing the drill to the ground and walking away several times throughout the day.

When it was finally time to clock out after eleven exhausting hours you rushed to the locker room and got your things.

Normally you'd just walk right out, the supervisors ignoring you like they ignored the rest of the workers, but this time one of them stopped you before you could reach the door.

“Worker #233 your shift isn't finished.”

“What?” You frowned. “Eleven hours, I just clocked out” You argued, turning to face the guard.

“You owe the company eight more hours according to our records.” He spoke, voice monotone.

“What are you talking about? I didn't miss any days and I wasn't late a single day.” You were starting to lose your patience and it was clear in your voice. You just wanted to go home and crash on your bed.

“You have registered to fill in for another worker, yet you never fulfilled the quota. Worker #5583.” He informed you. You stared at him, clearly confused. “Marie Rain Carradine if the files are correct.” He corrected in irritation.

Fuck.

This one time Rain fell down hard, hitting her knee in the process. The poor girl couldn't even walk straight, so you offered to take her place, take her home, and fill in the hours when you were needed. Did it have to be today?

“You are needed in the spacecraft maintenance department.” He told you, clearly as tired of this conversation as you were.

“Seriously? Maintenance?” You raised a brow.

“You want to go back to the mines” He countered, quickly silencing you.

You returned to the clock-in room with a loud sigh, not really caring to hide your exhaustion as you approached the counter. You stared at the lady behind the glass, eyes tired and uninterested.

The lady didn't seem to care as she took your worker's card and scanned it.

“Y/n L/n, right? You are assigned to perform a maintenance assessment on ‘Corbelan IV’.” She announced and gave you back your card, expecting you to get the tools and get out but you stared at the woman with wide eyes. She stared back at you, her gaze confused.

“Corbelan IV?” You asked, hoping you misheard.

“Yes, there's a shortage in staff” She answered unenthusiastically.

No, fuck no.

“Isn't, um, isn't there another ship?” You hesitantly asked.

Panic started to sip through you while the woman lowered her glasses, staring at you disapprovingly.

“Like— isn't there another ship? Or something—anything, really.” You rambled the more the woman stared.

She raised a brow before pushing the card closer to you and turning back to her computer screen, seemingly done with the conversation.

“Fucking cunt” you mumbled under your breath as you grabbed the card.

You grabbed the tools from the shelf and walked out, the cold air hitting your face again. But you refused to move any faster, trying to stall as much as you could.

You spend too much time on this ship to know that it wasn't just any mining hauler, it was Navarro's baby. And most of the time the entire crew was there “cleaning and checking” it. In reality, you were there to drink and laugh and maybe actually do your work.

When you finally arrived you stared at the enormous craft for a while. This is going to be awkward…

You walked around until you finally found the ladder and pushed yourself up. Once you entered the ship you didn't hear any chatter from inside, even though the gate was wide open.

You just hoped Bjorn wasn’t here and by the quietness that filled this place, you guessed he wasn’t.

You walked deeper into the ship finding the second ladder to the cockpit and climbing, your boots making noise in contrast to how quiet the entire ship was.

“Kay, that you?”

Navarro. You should have guessed.

You stopped in your tracks, hearing her deep voice after so long sent shivers down your spine.

“Uh, no. Not Kay.” You spoke after a beat.

The silence around you shifted into an uncomfortable silence so intense that you considered turning around and walking away.

But the sound of the small hum forced you to stay put.

No turning back now.

You continued climbing, finally seeing the yellow light of Navarro’s desk light. You forced yourself to lift your eyes once you stepped into the cockpit.

There she was, awkwardly standing with her arms folded as she leaned against the back of her pilot seat watching you.

“Hey.” She spoke softly. She really tried to seem relaxed but her hand slowly lifted to scratch the back of her neck.

Such a funny habit of hers. You remember trying to keep yourself from giggling every time you saw her in awkward situations. She looked so unbothered until you noticed how she nervously rubbed the back of her neck.

It wasn't funny now.

Your eyes avoided her as you spoke “Hey.”

You remembered the toolbox in your hand and lifted it a bit to hopefully divert her attention to the item.

Her eyes took some time to leave your face, slowly falling to the toolbox. A small frown appeared on her face but it was quickly pushed away. “Oh yeah.” she mumbled.

You tensed as she approached you, leaning closer to you to take the object from your hand. You tried to ignore how close her cheek was to yours or how cold her fingers were when they gently wrapped around yours—well not around your hand but the handle of the toolbox.

Her fingers were always cold, no matter how warm the place was. She would always stand behind you, her tall physique made it very easy for her to rest her chin on your head or shoulder as her hands slid inside your pockets, squeezing your warm hands in hers and laughing when you yelped at the contact.

This time her fingers quickly moved away, taking the box with her. Her boots thud loudly against the metal floor as she walked to her pilot chair and placed the object on the cushiony seat.

The uncomfortable silence made you feel compelled to start the conversation.

“How have you been?” You asked quietly, awkwardly moving closer to her.

“Fine. You?” She answered, her loud rummaging through the toolbox echoing across the empty ship.

You weren't sure If you wanted to be truthful—if she wanted to hear about her brother's ex talking shit about him.

But she was your friend, right? You weren't just Bjorn's girlfriend all this time, right?

You ignored your consciousness screaming for you to keep your mouth shut.

You embarrassingly noticed the sweat that covered your hands and quickly wiped them on your shirt suddenly glad that the girl was turned the other way.

“Not that good, if I'm being honest” You replied with a small sigh.

The girl froze for a moment, not sure how to respond to your honesty. Eventually, she turned to face you with a hesitant smile appearing on her face momentarily “I get it. Breakups are tough.”

“It wasn't a breakup” You argued, you couldn't contain the bitterness in your tone. “ We were never together to begin with.”

You wanted to stop—really, but you just couldn't. With a groan, you slumped on a nearby seat.

“I mean don't get me wrong, being in a relationship with someone like Bjorn sounds like an actual nightmare—No offense…” You quickly added, sending Navarro an apologetic look.

“None taken,” Navarro said with a chuckle slowly approaching you. “Trust me, shit-talking Bjorn isn't new to me”

“Yeah.” You laughed, throat closing up a bit when she sat on the seat next to you.

“So I'm all ears. Why do you hate Bjorn—sorry, that asshole” She said with a mischievous smile.

But suddenly you didn't want to talk about Bjorn.

You couldn't.

Having her next to you after so long felt too good. So good that you couldn't stop your lips from curling into a smile.

“I don't want to talk about him.” He murmured, eyes meeting her amused ones.

“I missed talking to you, Varro.” You whispered, bumping her shoulder with your own softly. There was a certain melancholy in your tone, a small question lingering in your mind.

“Why didn't you call?”

You watched the playfulness in her eyes slowly turn into something else, something like guilt.

Maybe she was thinking the same thing, because she wasn't answering, just searching in your eyes for something before suddenly standing

Your eyes followed her with a frown as she walked to the pilot seat sitting down. Everything about her changed. Her friendly demeanor flipped to a much more distant one.

You hesitantly stood up. “I know I didn't answer and all but I didn't know what to say, i mean you guys are Bjorn's family” You tried to defend yourself while staring at the back of her head.

But the only thing Navarro offered you was a slow nod.

“I would've answered to you.” You confessed, blood rushing to your cheeks.

It was true. If Navarro called you you'd pick up the call without a second thought, the idea of hearing her voice enough to make you push past initial awkwardness.

She paid no mind to you, didn't even spare you a glance yet you were standing here like an idiot, essentially begging for her forgiveness. You bit your lip, cheeks burning with shame.

“I know. That's why I didn't call you” The words came out quick. Too quick. Her own eyes widened and she immediately turned to face you, obviously surprised that she let those words slip out.

You just stared at each other for a long beat, not sure what to say.

“That sounded wrong, I didn't mean it like t—” She attempted.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” You shouted, the burning in your cheeks was now a product of anger.

She sighed, running a hand through her buzzed head but her lack of response only fuelled your anger.

“What am I inconveniencing you by coming here? By talking to you?” You asked, not expecting an answer before continuing “I'm sorry Navarro, I thought we were fucking friends!”

“We are!” Navarro began, attempting to approach you. You could see the remorse in her eyes but you couldn't stand here anymore, the stinging in your eyes becoming unbearable

No, you weren't going to cry here, you weren't going to fall this low.

“Clearly we fucking weren't!” You spoke as you walked to the ladder, climbing down without missing a beat. “Cause it looks like all I fucking was, was Bjorn’s girlfriend that you had to put up with”

“That's fucking bullshit!” Navarro argued but it didn't matter anymore, you were going down faster, getting out of her eyesight.

The girl walked closer, looking down at you from the gap on the floor but you refused to look up.

“Y/n you can't seriously believe that shit!” Navarro's desperate voice echoed in the ship and as the elevator got closer to the surface of the ship, you jumped down with a loud thud.

You don't remember how you got out of there. You don't even remember what stupid excuse you came up with to tell the supervisors but you remember Navarro trying to call out your name.

The moment you got home you tossed your clothes to the ground and got inside the shower.

The moment the water fell on your burning body you felt the walls around you crack. With a choked sob your tears started flowing.

Navarro was special, she was special to you. And you thought you were special to her too.

The way she talked to you, the way she comforted you, the way she looked at you.

When you laid in your bed feeling small and pathetic and a like fucking moron for believing that you weren't just Bjorn's ‘friend’ and now ex all this time.

. . c h a p t e r 01 . . .

“struggling to find my way”

The bus ride was shakey and bumpy as it swayed across the city of Musutafu, Japan. My hands clung tightly to the metal bar that was above my head. I could hear the beats of my heart pumping through my ribs.

I was going to the best police department in the world, UAPD ( U.A police department) it would be an understatement if I said I was nervous. I looked out the window seeing the sun beaming against the city’s tall scrapers. People bustling around and walking trying to find their purpose.

I always had a thing of wanting to help people or maybe even save them? But there was always one person in your life, you can’t save.

My phone rang from out of my purse, picking it up I see the caller id.

Akio.

My brother who’s been on the run for two years and I helped him. Even if I wanted to I couldn’t say no, he was my . . . Brother. But now im stuck in a rabbit hole because of him.

I swiped answer on the phone and lifted the phone to my ear. “Akio you know you can’t call me on this phone, they’ll track you and they will find your location.” I whispered my face filled with disdain.

If anyone knew about this, I could go to jail and I would lose my opportunity to be a cop.

“Sis c’mon , they probably forgot about me. It’s been two years, and relax this is a burner phone.” He chuckled causing me to glare.

It confuses me how calm he could be in this situation , he is a run away criminal. I took a deep breath and looked at the phone. “Okay, okay, just stay safe and stay indoors. I’m going to pay your rent and send you the money next week, kay?” I questioned leaning my head back further into the seat.

Since he was a criminal , he was also flat out broke and couldn’t get a job because it would alert all the high end police. Posters with his face were everywhere , so I took it of myself to pay his rent and give him money.

Which meant I had to work triple jobs, and it barely covered my small apartment as well. Thats why I want to become a police officer, it pays well and im doing something I love.

Greedy I know.

“Got it baby sis, thanks a lot for everything . Love ya !” He chimed causing a tiny smile to form on my lips. Waving goodbye to him , I close the video chat call.

The bus made an abrupt stop and i knew was my stop. I could see the UAPD’s huge building in the distance. Sliding my phone in my purse I walk out the bus.

Clutching it tightly my sneakers kissed the concrete as I walked towards the large building. Remeber when I said it was huge , yeah it’s bigger than that.

I breathed in and out as I looked at the large sign ontop that said UA police department. Opening the glass doors, collecting eyes from people waiting in the building. I lifted my ID that hung around my neck, letting them know that I now work here.

Entering the elevator, I was about to press floor number 2 until a girl with pink frizzy Afro hair and beautiful brown carmel skin ran to it sliding in . (yes i imagine mina black when its quirkless , im sorry if you don’t . just imagine something else)

She huffed and breathed loudly with her hands on her knees. “H…h..hi im Ashido Mi…Mina.” She managed to say lifting her hand up.

I was hesitant but I lifted my hand up to hers giving it a firm shake. “L/n Y/n.” I firmly said as I glanced at the necklace that hanged around her neck , a detective badge.

Mina giggled as she saw where my eyes landed. “Sometimes I don’t even know how I landed the job.” She teased. “Also , are you new ? I never saw you around.”

I nodded my head softly, pressing my palms together as the elevator started to move. “I’m a rookie in training… this is um, my first day on the job.” I sighed as I was token surprised my Mina’s arm being wrapped around me.

She squealed as she held my so tight I felt like my circulation was cutting off. “You’re such a cutie Y/n ! Oh wait I can call you by your first name right?” She questioned as her big brown eyes looked at me , batting her long eyelashes.

Mina seemed very nice, at the academy I had 2 friends. But they weren’t like Mina, Asuka and Kyoko would always make nasty comments on how I didn’t deserve to be at the academy.

And they were right.

“Um , yeah you can. Can�� I call you also by your first name?” I squeak out nervously, maybe I was misinterpreting everything maybe she didn’t want to be my friend-

My legs felt like they were being lifted off the floor as Mina picked me up and spun me around, causing me to let out a little snort.

“Ofcourse you can girl ! We’re deft going to be best friends.” She giggled as she put me down , the elevator dinged and the doors opened. We both walked into room 1-A , it was surprising that we were both in the same zone.

Mina then paused as she face palmed. “Oh shit , I forgot my phone downstairs I’ll be back Y/n.” She yelled already taking off.

I couldn’t help but giggle quietly as I opened the glass door , the room was almost full with some seats empty . there were different officers from different branches present in the room , I could see from their tags around their neck.

I pursed my lips as I walk toward the back , sitting in an empty chair that was two seats away from a guy with an electric bolt in his yellow hair . Murmuring was present but I ignored it , already used to it , I plugged my AirPods in my ear as I waited for everything to start .

A few minutes passed by an empty chairs soon to be filling up . a large figure with red pretty hair sat next to me , I would steal glances at him admiring his hair .

I wonder if it’s soft or not .

Our eyes caught each others and he was about to speak to me until a loud voice and looming figure was in front of me. “The fuck are you doing in my seat?” Bakugou hissed , his crimson eyes looked down at me like I was the most disgusting thing he ever saw .

And that’s when it clicked , it was THE sergeant Bakugou Katsuki . The prodigy of the police academy , everyone knew his name . His remarkable marks on every test , outstanding skills, am-

“Do you fucking hear me you deaf extra?” He spat in my face , his eyes were scrunched like he was threatening me . I looked around and saw everyone was staring at me , I swallowed hardly , and gathered my stuff with a trembling hand and quickly walked upfront .

I could fear a tear forming from my eyes and racing down my skin . Why am I crying ? Why can’t I stop ? I quickly wiped the tear away as I lowered my head .

Soon the room was packed and chairs were filled , a commanding figure with bags under his eyes and black messy long hair . I could already tell it was Commander Shota Aizawa. He was the one who hand-picked me to join UAPD.

“Settle down and listen up , we have fresh blood joining us today . ” he crossed his arms with a slight smirk as he looked at me .

“Introduce yourself , rookie . ”

Sibling Showdown!!!

This showdown consists of 64 sibling sets facing off against each other, as well as a few one-off polls of sets who didn’t make the actual bracket but who I wanted to include in some capacity. Polls will last a week. Round One of section A will go live on April 16, with section B going live the day after, section C the day after that, and section D the day after that.

Propaganda is allowed! I just ask that it be kept positive. Argue for your faves instead of against someone else’s. Every sibling set who made it in the showdown is there because someone wanted them to be, so keep it kind.

So it seem they really re-wrote episode one of Cobra Kai season 06 and also are going to re-shoot it. This actually gives me hope. I hope they took the time to think very well what to do with season 6 and where to go.

I doubt they are not going to use the epic fight scenes (quote Billy) they already shot so it must be sth else. I still keep my hopes low that they changed their mind on the whole wedding and baby stuff but I have hope. I mean they cut out the proposal in season 5... (I assume this based on C. looking at the ring on her finger and showing it to Amanda and how Billy and Ralph talked about the thing that got cut and might get used for s6)

I just hope they come up with something better for Johnny.. :'3

And even if not on that end, it is still a good sign that they are not going to rush it and made some major changes to their previous plans.

DID YIU WRITE AROUND HER NECK BASED ON THE LINE FROM CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT?

Shockingly, no. I wrote it inspired by a line in Winter where Cinder's stuck in the Lunar Dungeon and she carves a C into the wall, "she considered adding a + K, but the idea of such whimsy made her want to bang her head against the wall."

It's so unlike her to even think of that, but it shows the girly side she has inside that she buries but her love for Kai can bring out.

I did have a song in mind, loosely. Just the line from 8 by Billie Eilish, "wore my heart on a chain around my neck" although that song is sad and the fic isn't, so it's not really applicable.

The reason I didn't link it to Call It What You Want is that years ago I wrote a fic based on that song for a different fandom, and I guess I don't like to repeat ideas that I've already explored because it feel reductive. However that song IS perfect for that fic so I shall retroactively attribute it to Around Her Neck.

What are your favorite ships for Power Rangers characters? Especially for characters like Conner and Javi?

That is a very loaded question! I have a lot of ships that I have for my favourite characters (main of which can be considered rarepairs or crackpairs). Before we get to those, let's tackle Conner and Javi first shall we?

So, for Conner. When it comes to shipping for him, I tend to lean towards outside of the Dino Thunder team. (mainly because you can tear CassidyxEthan from my cold, dead, rotten corpse thank you very much). A friend of mine and I joked about the DT rangers meeting the Squadron rangers, and Conner immediately swooing over Xev and Telosi.

Look me in the eyes and tell me Conner wouldn't immediately start simping over Xev, Telosi and their muscles.

He probably also has a thing for Cole. Especially those biceps and Ryan. And Shane. And Hunter. and Dustin. Adam. Rocky. Definitely Jason. Big time. Eric is out though. He shares a name with Conner's bro, and that's a major no. He'd absolutely go ga-ga over Dillion. Damon's, TJ, Mike C, and Leo too. Chad.

I'd say Joel too but... lets be honest, no one can win against Angela Fairweather. No one.

Anyone with muscles, Conner's there. But when it comes to romantic involvement for shipping? Xev, Telosi, Dillion, Cole, possibly Shane. Depending on how it's written, DustinxConnerxHunter... long as Dustin isn't Erik McKnight's teacher, I'm good.

Now, for Javi...

I'm blaming @skyland2703 for my growing fondness for JavixAmelia. It's a very cute couple, and I can't believe I never thought of them as a ship until I started seeing their content. Another friend of mine has also made me a fan of Javi x Ollie too, and with Russell's (Zayto) recent tweet it does make me curious if Javi x Zayto will happen or the potential it could hold.

As for my favourite characters... I have a variety of ships~ I'll go in order of series that way no one gets left out or behind.

MMPRS1-Turbo 1: Katherine x Billy; One of my top OTPs of all time. I really wanted them to have nice things. Tommy x Jason, Tommy x Kim: These two have my heart~ And you can't tell me something wasn't going on between Tommy and Jason through the series. Adam x Rocky, Adam x Rocky x Aisha x Tanya, Adam x Tanya, Rocky x Aisha, Aisha x Shawna, Aisha x Tanya; Do I really need to explain? These four are pretty much rock solid. Splitting them apart if like a huge NO imo. Turbo 2-Wild Force TJ x Cassie; Lets be honest, the Phantom Ranger was never gonna stick around for Cassie. She needs someone dependable in her life and that's TJ. Zhane x Andros: Once again, utterly blaming a friend of mine for this. I've fallen down the rabbit hole and can't seem to get out. Zhane x Astronema/Karone: I can't help it. It's a cute ship! Mike Corbett x Carlos Vallerte: My OTP of Power Rangers. I forever be shipping them and hopefully getting my motivation to actually get writing them, I read a fic several years ago that made me ship them. Unfortunately that fic no longer exists. Kai x Damon; literally don't know how I came up with this one, but I thought it would be pretty cute that the engineer/mechanic and the uptight soldier would hook up with one another, and Damon endlessly flirting with him non-stop even during work hours~ Ryan x Carter: My OTP of Lightspeed. I feel like Ryan would be great for Carter, helping him come out of his shell a bit and be a more explorative while sharing quiet moments when it's simply the two of them. Dana x Taylor; Soft military nurse that will kill you with kindness and Taylor that disciplined military pilot that can kick your ass with a glare? It can't go wrong! Nancy x Kelsey: It's match made in heaven. PROVE. ME. WRONG. Eric x Wes, Eric x Wes x Jen: It's inevitable that they three will end up together. And you can FEEL that chemistry/tension between Eric and Wes on scream. They definitely have something back during their school days. Katie x Trip: Do I need to explain? Merrick x Cole: I have a weakness for these two, it's just... they simply FIT together. Ninja Storm - RPM Dustin x Hunter: I like how the two bounce off each other, and their aesthetics that match together. They definitely have very good chemistry together and I can see them ending up together at the end of Ninja Storm. Ethan x Cassidy: LET. THEM. HAVE. NICE. THINGS. Sky x Bridge: I know, I know. I've been pulled on the Sky x Bridge train, but you can't tell me there isn't something going on between them. Vida x Chip: I really love these two. I know they are best friends and everything, but at the same time, I feel like their romance is something very believable that can happen between them. Giving it the proper time to grow. Xander x Nick: This is a guilty pleasure of mine but like... *squints* like you can't tell me that the two had SOMETHING happening when no one was looking. RJ x Casey: Need I say more? There's no heterosexual relationship about them. Dillion x Ziggy:... Just let me have this. Please? They personally had more chemistry in my eyes than Dillion and Summer. But that's simply me. Flynn x Gemma: SOUL MATES. Samurai to Dino Fury/Cosmic Fury(?) Jayden x Antonio: THERE IS NO HETEROSEXUAL EXPLANATION FOR THESE TWO. Gia x Emma: I say by what I say when I say Gia should have been leader and red. Noah x Orion: Nerdy boy and alien? SO MUCH POTENTIAL! Tyler x Shelby: One of the few times I do enjoy the main couple in the show~ Matt Griffin x Tyler x Ivan: I blame my friend for this but you can't tell me it wouldn't be interesting. The modern cowboy, the explorer, and the knight? Imagine the shenanigans! Izzy x Fern: QUEENS. They deserver EVERYTHING! I don't really ship a lot involving Beast Morphers, Ninja Steel, or Dino Fury yet. I'm waiting to see what Cosmic Fury holds first to see how the relationships grow and change for the second season.

My number 1 crackship of all time:

Dane Romero x Mr Kelman x Andrew Hartford: Involving time shenanigans that ensure all three are around the same age and being able to be in love and be together without any problems. I have NO idea why or how I came up with this ship, but it's mine and I love it~
