"but - at least i have you," she muses, fingers sliding down the length of the other arm before tangling with hers. "you're always protecting me."

"hey," rowan shrugs, little smile playing on her lips. "what are friends for if not to keep you on the right track?" she could almost feel guilty for manipulating the situation in her favour but she tried not to think too hard about it. "now you can focus on finding something bigger and better! isn't that amazing?"

autumn stood frozen, her trembling hands instinctively wrapping around her own torso as if shielding her fragile heart from the onslaught of emotions. it felt like déjà vu, the bitter taste of betrayal a haunting reminder of why she had erected emotional barricades in the first place. maddie, the one person she thought she could trust, had become the architect of her devastation. "you got lost," she repeated, the words hanging in the air like a feeble defense, each syllable splintering the already fractured pieces of her trust. standing there, a portrait of vulnerability, she struggled to contain the whirlwind of emotions swirling within. "i trusted you," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the echoes of her crumbling world. tear streaked cheeks bore witness to the profound hurt she couldn't conceal. "more than anyone, maddie. and you just... threw it away. threw us away. did you even think about us? about me?" her voice, fragile as porcelain, cracked under the weight of betrayal as her gaze lifted to meet the other's, searching for answers in the eyes that had once been her refuge.

maddie's heart sank as she looked into the eyes of the person she cared about the most. the weight of her actions pressed down on her chest, and the guilt was etched across her face. she never wanted to be the one to cause her pain, yet here they were, standing in the aftermath of her mistake. "i never wanted to hurt you," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. she took a step closer, the distance between them feeling insurmountable. "it's not about you not being good enough. it's about my own stupid choices.'' she reached out tentatively, her fingers grazing her arm. "i messed up, and i don't expect you to forgive me. but please know it was never about you not being enough. you're more than enough. i just... - i got lost, and i hurt you in the process." her eyes pleaded for understanding, but she knew that the damage was done. the trust they had carefully built had crumbled, and the echoes of her actions lingered in the silent space between them.

PhD day 794 | One of those days where I have a little cry over feeling like I'm disappointing people. At least I feel less aimless about my analysis, reading about quantitative analysis and Grounded Theory helped a lot.

"Banana, eaten or applied, should help soften your hair up - applied should be mixed with honey, eggs and/or avocado into a paste." Vala gave them a wry smile. "I don't think we have either eggs nor honey, though, unless one of us turns out to be an amateur apiculturist."

"Tell me about it my hair has been suffering." she complained. They didn't exactly consider themselves vain but they did take care of their hair, so feeling it get drier and harder to brush had a twofold effect: it was not how she liked it to look, but more importantly it was a huge sensory trigger for them. They gave an apologetic smile, "Thanks." they nodded.
