this xover headcanon in which Astarion as a Traci model in Eden Club crashed into my mind tonight so this rough photomerge happened in a rush.
Model AA200 (Astarion Ancunin 200 yo (i know he's older than that but most android models count as hundreds)) AKA Trastarion.
then i couldn't resist photomerging my babe 59 again :D

bird details from the incredible Byzantine Wall Mosaic in the Rotunda of St. George, Thessaloniki. photo source links in the pictures for the ones from twitter, the others by Helen Miles
#mosaic#Byzantium#byzantine art#this is sooo beautiful and i never heard of it! also yes i think that last one probably depicts a parrot despite the shape. not a lot of#green birds with neck bands around in this general area even if the beak shape is way off. well idk#thessaloniki

My birthday present to myself arrived! Now I just need to frame them. The quality of them is absolutely stunning, honestly, both the artwork (obviously) and the quality of the printing.
@sunsetagain has an Inprnt shop if you want to go and grab yourself something gorgeous!
#dbh#dbh fanart#personal#I love them so much#I'm going to spend like six hours just staying at the details in the byzantine generals cover#and this artist always makes Hank look stunning#and I couldn't resist the image of 59#I adore that design so much#there is so much more art I would have bought#but I am sadly not made of money#I may treat myself to others at a later date

I do always love consulting fantasynamegenerators.com for inspiration, and they have a whole generator for specifically Dragon Age races, including dwarves, if you're still looking!
https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/dragonage-dwarf-names.php
bold of u to assume i do not have at least one fantasynamegenerators tab open at all times
#i have so many tabs open for this#a lot of german royalty. do you know how tempted i am to throw in the towel and call her Theophanu for no reason#of course she was byzantine by birth so its not the vibe at all but a splendid name#i think im leaning too german and saxon in general and not norse enough but i always struggle drawing on norse for some reason#ANYWAY. thank u for advertising fantasynamegenerators anon we love to see it

LOOKING at your post about gods!swagdoons and their religions becoming intervowen omg thats such a cool concept!! do you have any more thoughts on made up mythology by chance pointrightpointleft
omg....i do!
gonna focus on their cults for a second but id think they'd meet up because of trading and whatnot ^_^ since yk. swagdoons and business partners and whatnot but id imagine their cults would have a lot of things about economics (red's moreso, ash's would just use money as a status symbol/sign of power)! so uh. insert coin tossing and riches rituals here. and also insert ash's cult using money as a sign of loyalty here bc its like, giving up your ego to someone. yeag .
but yeah! some misc things is that i think their cults would be Well Known but they have funky variations depending on which region you go to >_< sorta like how there's Flavors of swagdoons depending on which series you base them off of! also they'd have the craziest and sickest parties i just Know it . dionysian parties type beat fr!
#swagdoons#anyways more rambles in the tags#i also associate red with revival/time loops and ash with war/general death so uhhhh#(has not played h.ades) thats like 2 of the guys in there right#(t.hanzag or something idk all of my knowledge from that game is via osmosis)#anwyays yeah god of rebirth and god of death is sooooo. very themcore i think i think they'd have Some of their myths based on that concept#anyways i also think that reds cult would eat a lot of stuff like honey and milk#specifically something like byzantine honey fritters#which reminds me i wanna make them so bad but :sadge:#maybe one day ill make them and have a biblically accurate taste review of it#also uhhhhh this isnt even all of my thoughts i have More made up symbolism when it comes to them and fallen angels that's like#Different than this god concept#as well as another old god!red concept that's a Lot more canon-compliant LOL#feel free to ask btw i loveeeee asks where i can ramble they're awesome#anyways omg ty for ur ask anon! ^_^ hope u enjoyed! <3#into the pantheon#mailbox.core

just saw someone on twitter call Belisarius “underrated,” as if there aren’t 700 books and plays that are like “this is Belisarius, the greatest man ever to exist, the Cincinnatus of late antiquity, the world’s best and most handsome general, the only true Roman after the collapse of the west,,, also he conveniently shares all of my obscure political and religious views,, and he was good at sex too”
#i once read a book from like the late 1800s where the author regularly stalled the plot just to talk about how Belisarius was great lol#there are like 5 different sci-fi series about Belisarius#and a ton of just regular books that are totally obsessed with him#i feel like if you pick up any book about sixth-century europe#there’s like a 50/50 chance that there’ll be literal paragraphs of salivating over Belisarius#half the time authors just straight up adapt out or kill off other generals and give Belisarius their accomplishments instead#(this always seems to happen to Mundus and Sittas#rip)#people are OBSESSED with him#he’s definitely among the better-known byzantines and probably the one with the biggest fan club#like Justinian is probably objectively more famous#but a lot of people actively dislike him so it’s not like he’s got a MASSIVE fan club#but Belisarius? definitely has the most fanboys

I love that with a couple asterisks, you can say "Vikings VS. Romans with flamethrowers" is a historical matchup that actually happened
#the asterisks are as follows#its the byzantines so still the roman empire (fight me) but a thousand years of cultural development removed from the romans you imagined#Its the Rus so like... slavic-norse culture from the area thats now Ukraine and russia and that general area#and flamethrowers are greek fire. I'm sure we all know everyone's favorite brand of medieval napalm#anyway ain't history neat?#history#romans#roman empire#byzantine empire#byzantium#vikings#greek fire

this could not be further from court eunuch behavior. i dont think you guys actually read Chinese Eunuchs: Structure of Intimate Politics (tatsuki mitamura) or Inside the World of the Eunuch: A Social History of the Emperor’s Servants in Qing China (melissa s dale)
#of course i have no way of knowing if this is accurate to byzantine eunuchs#but 'court eunuch' generally refers to chinese history

Byzantine history be like:
In 874 Emperor Kostalogous IV ascended to the throne after blinding sixteen nephews, and married his wife, Theodora.
However, he soon ran afoul of the Patriarch of Constantinople, Theopelagionikus, and his wife Theodora.
In 895 he was deposed by his general, Justiniapelomaxorianous II, and his wife Theodora.
This created nine new church schisms.
