as much as I can appreciate the interpretation of enjolras as being a naturally kinda quiet and calm guy, I tend to prefer the idea that he had to teach himself to be charming. he isn't necessarily cruel by nature, but he's intense. the force of his passion can scare even his closest allies as well as his enemies so he learns to file the edge of his knife sharper and smaller and sharper and smaller until he can hide it in a bouquet of flowers.

culture around fanfiction has just gotten so...weird? not necessarily on the writer's side, but it seems to really be showing on the passive reader's side. not every writer is writing something to be the "next big thing" in a fandom, and hoping it's seen as a "staple" of fandom culture.
they're not writing it with the hope it going the way of "the love hypothesis" and becoming a published piece of work. they're not writing to compete with other writers, especially those that they're genuinely friends with.
most of us, in my opinion, are writing because, well, we just love to write and have a story we want to share! we care about these characters just as much as you do and just want to tell a certain type of story with that same amount of care; no matter how many kudos, hits or shares it gets.
we don't see stories as "content" that need to a reach certain metric; we see them as a way to celebrate something we all love.

Phantom's Coffee
Enough Caffeine to Kill an Elephant Side Story
There is a lot that comes with being a ghost. Most of that is really cool superpowers. The unfortunate side effect with the whole being dead thing is that he doesn't have need for human functions or sustenance.
It had been a horrible thing to discover, really. The lack of constant need for sleep and food and drink was sometimes useful, but that came with the realization that nothing affected him.
At first, Danny and his team thought it was because he was dead. No blood flow, no working organs, no metabolism. This lead to a lot of experimentation. Drugs and alcohol had no effect, neither did poisons. He didn't get sick anymore, no matter what he did!
And then he realized that coffee didn't work.
Naturally distraught, Danny went straight to Frostbite to figure out what was going on. It's finals season, damnit! Coffee was gonna be the one thing to pull him through his studies!
"From what I can tell," the yeti explained, "your human functions have stopped. Quite the opposite, really."
Danny blinked. "But, I'm dead. Ghosts don't have working organs or stuff like that."
"Indeed, but you're only half dead."
"What difference does that make?"
Why did Frostbite now have charts, and where did they come from? "I can only guess, but when you died and brought back, the electricity jump started everything in your body. It essentially supercharged you. I can only assume that it'll die down in time to the point of non-function, but we can't know for sure."
"Wait," Danny's voice was nervous, "What does that mean?"
Frostbite took a minute to think over his words, looking for how to phrase what he wanted to say. "When you are alive, your heart beats slower than it did before your death, yes?"
"Yeah."
"That would be the effects of the ectoplasm that reanimated you. Your heart rate is slower, breathing takes a more conscious effort, your blood flow is slower, your organs are all working at half of what they used to." He took another moment of pause. "When you are dead, your heart beats faster than it did, breathing is faster, blood flow is faster, your organs are working at twice capacity."
Danny's breathing, now that he was very aware of it, picked up. "What- But that- What?!"
"With a high enough voltage, electricity kills. With a high enough concentration, ectoplasm reanimates."
"Reani- but I'm alive!"
"Indeed."
"But that doesn't make sense!"
"Doesn't it?"
"No!"
"Perhaps I should try a different phrasing." Frostbite said. "When you are Danny Fenton, you are more dead than alive in the sense that your body has been killed and not fully revived. When you are Danny Phantom, you are more alive than dead in the sense that your body was revived and not fully killed."
Danny was quiet for a moment. "Reanimated and revived aren't interchangeable, Frostbite."
"In some contexts', no. In others, they are."
"Are they here?"
A beat. "Yes."
Danny knew he was lying, but he didn't call him out on it. That was a crisis for another day, thank you very much.
So, higher metabolism for Danny Phantom, lower one for Danny Fenton. Great.
All crises pushed aside to freak out about never later, Danny's ew mission was to find out exactly how much caffeine would be required to give him the buzz of wakefulness that he was searching for.
Normally, the course of action would to be to measure how much e weighs and look up the maximum caffeine intake his body could handle. It was the first thing he tried, and it failed.
By the tried and true method of 'Fuck It, We Ball', Danny learned that he needs to have 35,000 milligrams of caffeine in a single sitting before any effect takes hold when he's drinking as Phantom.
The calculations running at a 5:1 ratio, caffeine milligrams to weight pounds, the lowest end on the scale of average weight of a small female elephant (3,175 kilos), multiplied by five gives him the 15,875 milligrams that would be enough to give him a low buzz and keep him awake for a few hours. That's enough to kill the elephants on the low end of the scale.
(Jazz vetoed any kind of caffeine that wasn't naturally occuring in chocolate when he's Danny Fenton. She said that he's already died once and that he doesn't need heart problems to kill him.)
(Danny calls bull, but he isn't willing to risk his sister's ire.)
Because he can't let finals get the best of him, Danny decided to take it a step further.
The highest end of the scale for the average weight of female elephants is 4,050 kilos, multiplied by the same five, gives 20,250 milligrams of caffeine.
Essentially, the lower end of the scale would give him the same effect as 99 (and a bit) 473 milliliter cans of Rockstar Energy Drinks in one sitting. The higher end of the scale would be 126 (and a bit) 473 milliliter cans of Rockstar Energy Drinks in one sitting.
All that was left to do, now that he has the maths for the desired effect figured out, was to mix that in his favorite drink: A Red Eye.
Truly an abomination for the ages.
After way too much brain power, Phantom's completed coffee order looks like this:
A large Red Eye with 20,250 mg of caffeine
2 tablespoons of cinnamon
1 tablespoon of honey
1/8 cup of chocolate syrup
and 3 mint leaves or 1 teaspoon of mint extract
(he added 4 shots of vodka when he turned 21)
Danny is gonna kick his finals' ass, and be hyped up on caffeine while doing it!

*sighs deeply and turns to the microphone again*
I'm reminding IDW1 readers that the reason Optimus felt pain when first bonding with the Matrix has nothing to do with him being "unworthy" or the Matrix thinking he's "not a true leader" and has everything to do with the fact that when he bonded with it, he felt the collective emotion of every single Cybertronian in existence and the strongest emotion all of them were feeling was pain and suffering.
Tumblr media
I'm further reminding IDW1 readers that the Matrix doesn't have any divine power or godliness at all and the ability to wield it is solely based on how much a person believes in their own worthiness to wield it, which is exactly how literal colonizer, mass murderer, and caste system creator Nova Prime was able to wield the Matrix back in his day.
Literally the entire climax of Lost Light by JRO is Rodimus doing a pep talk to get everyone on the ship hyped/confident enough to feel worthy to wield a bunch of Matrixes. The whole fucking point of that ending was to show that "worthiness" isn't something only to be bestowed on a single chosen hero but rather a sense of self-worth that anyone is capable of achieving with enough faith.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Can people please please please stop with these insinuations/misbeliefs that because OP felt pain upon bonding with the Matrix it's somehow a sign of his inherent sin/unworthiness/shittiness/narrative evilness and actually read the comics they're making assumptions about? I beg.

in the modern au would they adopt?
There's been talk of this a couple of times before and I'm still on the fence about it myself. I think Vasco likes the idea of fatherhood and would have children if given the choice. Machete doesn't hate children but is strongly unnerved and doesn't know how to deal with them. So the odds of them agreeing to initiate the adoption process aren't promising, but if they, by some random chance, found themselves responsible for a child, it's entirely possible they would grow very attached to the kid and excel as parents.

Give me a fic where all of the batsiblings are thrown back in time but think they’ve been sent to an alternate universe because everyone is acting differently except Bruce, who really is the original version of Bruce.
It’s just before Ethiopia, Jason is holding a phone that’s already making a call. This time, Dick picks up and Jason spends all his time in this universe (timeline) wondering if Dick had just picked up if his own time would have gone differently.
Dick picks up and realizes his brother doesn’t have to die, that he wouldn’t have to become the Red Hood.
Both of their interactions with each other and Bruce and Alfred throw each other off because they’re trying to act like they don’t have future knowledge while being wildly weirded out by this alternate universe’s version of their sibling.
Cut to, Tim orchestrating how to meet Steph, Dick figuring out how to get Damian, Jason figuring out how to get Tim, Duke and Steph teaming up and Damian and Cass tracking each other down before being ultimately tracked down by Babs and Dick.
It’s a slow roll of chaos that steadily confuses Bruce and Alfred as more and more children come into the fold and they try and accumulate each other without giving away the fact that they’re “from a different universe” or letting any of the siblings realize that they have knowledge of each other from that other timeline.
Everyone but Dick and Babs is still a child and have varying degrees of training which makes most of them groan at having to relearn/regain their skill and muscle. But they’re all still letting themselves be the ages they are because none of them know the others would realize they’re actually adults/older and judge them for reliving their childhoods.
Jason has to pick a new hero name and reassess his fighting style and whether he wants to keep using guns. He doesn’t have the pit influence, this Bruce hasn’t made the mistakes his version did, and he doesn’t have to let history repeat itself. He also doesn’t get the same build he used to have and the childhood malnutrition really does keep its effects.
Tim and Damian get their own shock of being given the Robin mantle willingly. It’s easier the second time and Steph and Cass both get to think through the legacy of Batgirl and their own hero personas. Duke still has his parents, and eventually, his day job that comes without some of the prerequisite grief of joining the bat family.
But each time something occurs where the siblings get suspicious, they write it off as being a weird alt-universe.
I want to see Bruce and Dick patch up their relationship, for Bruce and Jason to actually talk about their emotions without being clouded by anger, for Bruce to accept Tim and Steph and Damian and Babs and Cass and Duke, to build several bridges without the loss of a child clouding his judgement. For Dick and Jason to finally have a shot at being brothers without resentment, for Jason and Tim to be brothers without jealousy, for Tim and Damian to be brothers without resentment/jealousy. For Steph and Babs to not doubt their places and for Cass to be the only one that suspects since she can read them all trying to hide something but also knowing that if none of them realize they all already know each other they will have room to grow in ways they hadn’t. For Duke to be able to be a part of something incredibly special while still getting to keep his family like Steph does.
I want Bruce and Alfred to just kinda, learn to accept the chaos. To write it off as their special brand of chaotic family and not some sort of secret being hid from them.

all the jokes about logan not knowing what a kilometer is reminds me of when i (an american) was on the swim team in high school and we would go to other schools for meets and pretty much every school had a 25 yd pool because that was the standard length but there was this one school that had a meter pool for some reason?? and 25 yds and 25 meters are pretty similar so it was about the size of a normal pool BUT whenever you swim you get an intuitive feel for the size of the pool which is especially important when you’re doing backstroke because you have a stroke count between the flags and the walls so you know when to turn over to flip. so when i was doing backstroke during warm ups i rammed my head into the concrete wall really hard because the pool was just a slightly different length than i was used to </3

Arcane Characters as VTM Clans
Singed - Tzimisce. I don't think I have to explain but I will. Because not only have we seen Singed do fucked bodyhorror shit on screen multiple times, but he's also a scientist and a scholar in the way the Tzimisce are scientists and scholars: feared, respected and left alone to do their stuff.
Silco - Caitiff. Because I feel like Silco is the type to get abandoned by his sire. I don't think any of the other clans fit. The way he was outcasted and then forcefully reentered Zaun seems more like "mistaken embrace" than "thinblood". And also why he was so willing to accept Jinx, another outcast, into his crew.
Vander - Brujah. Sure, Singed is almost surely making him into Warwick but that doesn't make him a Gangrel. Vander is heart to a fault.
Ekko - Nosferatu. Because the Firelights protect their home the way Nos protect their clan and the warrens. Ekko has that "family first" energy but in the Nos way rather than the Hecata way. And also the Firelights as a whole give me Nosferatu energy with the masks and the zipping around and the hiding.
Jinx - Hear me out. Jinx is a Toreador with a derangement. Jinx is a mad scientist and a tortured artist. She's obsessive and creative and definitely committed to the theatrics. I also think Malkavian masking as a Toreador would work for Jinx. I just feel like Malkavian by itself isn't right, idk.
Vi - Also a Brujah, because she wears her heart on her fucking sleeve. And she's a rebel, even in her Enforcer era. And because Vander is her sire.
Caitlyn - Ventrue. The whole Kiramman thing plus the rich as fuck, plus the pig righteousness, plus everything in her attitude. Also because of the audacity.
Jayce - Tremere because. Just because. No but like he just reminds me of the Tremere and because he has and will backstab people to accomplish his goals. Jayce also has a lot of enemies... very Tremere of him. And the whole scientist thing. Yeah, Tremere.
Viktor - Also a Tzimisce, though I feel like there are definitely other options for Viktor. But like the hexcore body shit is very fleshcrafting vibes. Singed could totally be his sire, but like the bond has def faded.
Sevika - Banu Haqim because she's so so deadly. Definetly a warrior. And because I feel like Sevika lives by her own personal moral code and that is very Banu to me. Also also because I have a soft spot for this clan and for Sevika.
Mel - Toreador, except instead of fans she has "her people", the people of Piltover and my god does she revel in their adoration and approval. And also she is an artist, a painter even though it's not a super prominent thing. She's just so Toreader coded, the outfits, the makeup, everything.
Ambessa - Lasombra, because she is ruthless and noble and because you know Ambessa Medarda definetly has Potence 5.
Heimerdinger - Heim really reminds me of a Tremere, but I don't think he is one. I kinda wanna say Ravnos because I feel like Heim has Chimerstry, but also Heimerdinger has fae vibes and might not even be a vampire.
