feeling completely insane about The Author And His Protagonist™️ this morning and now I'm thinking about bingqiu too, and like. Airplane of course wrote Luo Binghe to be everything he wasn't, this cool and powerful stallion protagonist. And he also wrote him to be what the readers wanted, especially as time went on. But there's bit of himself embedded in Binghe -- his insecurities, his fear of abandonment, his loneliness, his hunger for love. Those vulnerabilities are hidden away under layers of strength and stallion badassery in PIDW, but for Bingmei, they're laid bare and ratcheted up to eleven

And then Shen Yuan. He of course loved Luo Binghe The Protagonist™️ but he fell in love with Luo Binghe, the real person with insecurities and fears and strange ugly edges to his personality. He saw this carnival mirror reflection of Airplane's flaws, and he wanted nothing more than to wrap Binghe up and love him and care for him and soothe those insecurities

You know it’s a bit ironic how canonically, Dark Choco is supposed to be very powerful, but in both Ovenbreak and Kingdom he’s pretty useless

Now granted, this is because of the constantly changing meta and power creep, and because he’s an old character who’s been around since launch for Kingdom and not long after the launch of Ovenbreak, he’s been rendered obsolete for quite a while. It’s not really his fault, and I’m given to understand at Kingdom’s launch, he was a very useful Cookie to have, it’s just how the game goes. It’s still a little funny though

Not to be a downer and this isn't an indictment of people celebrating this, but I remember watching an as-it-happened documentary (my favorite type of documentary tbh) on the fiftieth anniversary of the Moon Landing and then halfway into it the spell it had over me snapped and I just started thinking "What did the people fighting in Vietnam, both sides, think of all this? Where was that 'moment of global unity' everyone has been talking about for the last fifty years that was allegedly during this moment? What about the people slaving away in factories or in fields or prison during this? What about the people who couldn't afford a TV because of rampant wealth inequality? There was so much vitriol in this moment just for people who wanted to be treated equal but I'm told the world as a whole and America in particular had come together."

I love as-it-happened documentaries because I love putting myself in moments that witness history in the making, good or bad, but I couldn't reconcile this idealized version of what I've been told my entire life and the historical truths I knew were going on as Americans landed on the moon

Thinking about Sentient Proxy fixing Kitty up after she got wrecked during one of Valentino's outburst even though it's already low on power.

Kitty doesn't have an assigned technician since Vox is the only one that's allowed to fix her by Valentino's standards.

So Proxy took it upon itself to help repair Kitty since none of the technicians previously under Vox's command is obligated to fix her, especially without incurring Valentino's wrath.

Kitty didn't know how to feel about being repaired by Proxy, a part of her being worried that Valentino would also punish Proxy for daring to fix her.

Not to mention she knows from past memories that Proxy isn't exactly fully equipped to fix robots and that it's energy consuming for the already low on power robot.

Proxy only smiled as it finished up repairing Kitty's arm before it fully powered down.

Alarm and concern quickly made Kitty stand up, using her recently repaired arms to wrap around Proxy's limp body and quickly carried him towards one of his technicians.

One of the specific technicians Kitty trusted could only sigh in exasperation before they gently asked her to settle Proxy down on one of the tables so they could check it out before putting it back into its charging station.

Thankfully there wasn't any damage to Proxy and it only needed to be recharged.

Kitty's arms sagged in relief before she quickly straightened up like the obedient robot she has to be.

She made a small note to herself to send the memory recording of what happened to Proxy once it wakes up as she patiently waits for Proxy to be fully recharged while Valentino hasn't called for her yet.

The technician could only stare at the two strange robots, before sighing slightly as they tell her she could come visit them if she needs a repair job so this won't happen again.

After all, they can't risk losing Proxy if they want to keep this messed up charade up.

Kitty could only stare at the technician in surprise as her smile stayed on her face. Widening a little in gratitude.

(Once Proxy woke up, Kitty made sure to send a bunch of memories of people being disappointed and upset with concern through their shared frequency before she sent a rare recording of Valentino softly saying "Don't you ever - do that again".

Proxy could only nod as it send a reply to her in their shared frequency. "Don't worry, it won't happen again")
