An open PSA to anyone with crafting friends (and isn't really sure what they like):

DON'T BUY THEM YARN

Part of the hobby is the purchasing yarn, which some might argue buying yarn and using yarn are two different hobbies. "But OP," you might argue, "I just know they'll love the Red Heart Super Saver I got on sale at Joann's! One skein should be plenty, and they can make me a sweater!"

This is one of those rare cases where a gift card to their favorite yarn store is more personal. First off, nothing against Red Heart, but if they're a yarn snob, it's going to collect dust. If they're a project-oriented purchaser, it's going to collect dust. If they like to buy yarn, then it's just mean.

Also, NEVER imply that your crafting friend should make something for you. If they love you, they will. If they don't, then you're not close enough to be making expensive demands.

sometimes spite is a powerful motivator and today its motivating me to crochet

long story short I saw a cool bag on pinterest while I was looking for crochet patterns but there was no fucking pattern but one of my friends found a pattern for a similar but not quite bag so I watched an hour long video, transcribed it into text, and am now gonna make a wholeass backpack just because Sunflower Vibe

Top tier feeling is being so far down the arts and crafts rabbit hole that normal buying stuff doesn't even occur to you. "Wow I wish I had a crop top" okay. I have a pair of scissors, the ability to hem and a dream. That's basically equivalent "Oh no I need headphone covers" Bet. Came up with my own pattern for them "The tops of my OTHER headphones are peeling off :/" I have scrap fabric. Amazon can't touch me "I wish my jars were aesthetic and spooky" The stupid plastic halloween decorations at target aren't even going to compare to what I'm about to make with some black and gold paint, clay, and a pasta jar. And I'll have more fun doing it too

people often wonder why I don't sell my knit beanies (except to one very lucky friend) and here's why:

I use 2 balls of 100% merino wool (€13).

it takes me about 12 hours to knit a beanie. even if I were to ask the minimum wage of €13,68 an hour, that would tally up to €164,16.

this alone would be a total of €177,16 ($196) - delivery costs and profit margin not included.

would you pay $200 for a hand knit beanie? 💸
