DEVELOPING BREAKING NEWS: A Suspected Butuanon Loan Sharker attacking borrower's victim sparks outrage on camera in Agusan del Norte [#K5NewsFMExclusive]
BUTUAN, AGUSAN DEL NORTE -- In a distressing incident spreadly captured like wildfires on social media, an unidentified Butuanon female suspect, described as wearing a light pink t-shirt & green pants, has been implicated in a violent act against a borrower in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. The incident took place at a local sari-sari store Monday (February 26th, 2024), causing an uproar among netizens online.
The graphic video, shared by a concerned individual named Ms. Jessim Oropo Dalen shown exclusively to 'K5 News FM', portrays the suspect confronting the borrower, who seems to be struggling to repay a loan either online or in-person via banks. The footage captures the suspect physically assaulting the victim in a public setting.
The clear description of the suspect, clad in a light pink t-shirt and green pants during this said incident, along with the violent nature of the assault, has unsettled the community and raised fears about the presence of loan sharks in the Agusan del Norte region. The risks rarely involved in illegal lending practices, which frequently involve coercion and aggression to ensure loan repayment on time, have been highlighted in this incident.
The case is being investigated by local authorities in Butuan, and they are incentivized for anyone who has relevant information to submit it thru the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO). The videos shared exclusively on Facebook (owned by Meta Platforms Inc.), have sparked widespread interest and criticism, leading to calls for justice for the victim and stricter measures against loan sharks. This also emphasizes the importance of financial literacy and responsible borrowing habits.
Efforts are underway to capture the suspect and ensure justice is later served as the investigation progresses, with a commitment to the safety and welfare of the community members being the top priority.
Updates on the investigation will soon to be provided between OneNETnews and K5 News FM as new details emerge.

Vacation 2023
In August 2023, I planned to go on a short vacation to the Philippines by December, so the plan materialized. As the days pass by, the excitement grows higher and higher. The night before my flight, it was the only time that I fixed my luggage with 20-kilo allowance. Filled with joy, I tried to wrap exciting gifts that my family would deeply adore. One of them is Ali Cafe, an instant…

So I'd like to talk a bit about the Filipino funeral gold scandal and how as someone writing an anti-colonial Filipino epic fantasy based heavily on early shaman lead rebellions against Spanish colonial rule I have some intense feelings about Filipino actress Beauty Gonzales flaunting wearing funerary death masks taken from a Large number of graves in surigao, butuan and mindinao and rather then treating them with appropriate respect or any kind of cultural ethics and instead turning them into fashion jewelry.
Aside from the damage to important archeological artifacts the utter disrespect shown to the dead who were interred in this way to ensure thier successful passage into the afterlife and to protect their bodies from the entry of evil spirits
For me it calls to mind when I was doing my primary sources research for Saints of Storm and Sorrow into the tree and boat burials of Luzon and reading the accounts of precolonial funerary practices by early Spanish friars and "naturalists" one of these documents was the memoir of Domingo Sanches who in a particularly horrifying account, noted how in the village he was staying in a young girl had died and he recorded how she was mourned and the great love and ceremony with which she was buried and how later that night he snuck back, dug up her grave and stole her body for research purposes. I remember he noted the great hostility of the natives when they discovered his theft and how he'd be unlikely able to return. I can't help being horrified at the thought of a Filipino actress adding to this horrible history of grave robbing and disrespecting the dead. To the colonialist mentality of taking spiritually important items and turning them into decorations. The level of disrespect is staggering. This is not the way to reconnect with our precolonial culture. I'm utterly horrified the more I look at this image and think about all the people who thought this was acceptable

my obsession for the past year or so is the discovery of this Mahapratisara Mantra Amulet found in Butuan, Agusan Del Sur. That in itself would've been impressive, but it's a modified version written to a local person (si Angai) and it has the modified Old Malay spellings that the Laguna Copperplate Inscription also features (pravarabisuddhe from Sanskrit pravaravisuddhe). This meant that it was written by someone (either a monk or a vajra master of maybe even a siddhi!) that lived and performed ritual/magical functions in the Philippines!
Even even more impressive in that Mahapratisara is only really prominent in Esoteric Buddhism (unlike the Theravadin/non-Esoteric Buddhism popular in mainland southeast asia) which is another point of evidence that at some point around 900AD, Southeast Asian Esoteric Buddhism flourished so much in Insular Southeast Asia that it reached even the fringes of Southeast Asia (the Philippines)!
other points of evidence are the Vajralasya statue (once known as the Golden Tara), the existence of Bathala (sanskrit bhattara) and Oinonsana (Vairocana/wairotsana), the 55 lbs. statue of seemingly Tara (the big female buddha prominent in esoteric buddhism).
esoteric buddhism might have been a bigger source of indianization flow to the philippines than pure shaivism (which, in truth, at around 900AD, would've been deeply connected with mantrayana buddhism through tantric innovation)

Compounding this issue is the scarcity of systematic excavations across the Philippines. With over 7,000 islands comprising our nation’s geography, conducting thorough archaeological explorations becomes a Herculean task, both logistically and financially. As a result, large swathes of our history remain untouched and unexplored.
Furthermore, there’s a tendency to favor grand historical narratives over the smaller, everyday discoveries that offer invaluable insights into past societies. This preference often stems from nationalist agendas, promoting a sanitized view of history that overlooks the nuances and complexities of our shared past. By neglecting these smaller finds, we risk distorting our understanding of the past and perpetuating narrow interpretations that fail to capture the full spectrum of human experience.
Take, for instance, the controversy surrounding the elusive Kalaga Putuan Crescent (KPC) – a purported kingdom located in what we now know as Butuan in Agusan del Norte. The mere mention of this kingdom has the potential to rewrite the narrative of pre-colonial Philippine history. A recent study delves into the depths of this “lost kingdom,” intertwining genetic and archaeological evidence in an impressive attempt to unveil the mysteries of precolonial Philippine culture.
This publication projects optimism, advocating for the power of scientific archaeology in the Philippines. Yet, amid the excitement, there’s a shadow of controversy, which highlights the need for more stringent, ethical research practices in archaeology to ensure our cultural artifacts are not misused or misrepresented.

Petition For Change Of School Names
Screenshot In a baffling turn of events, parents, teachers, and students of two esteemed schools in Butuan City and Leon, Iloilo, have reportedly launched a petition to rename their beloved institutions. Citing alleged difficulties in job hunting for alumni, who supposedly face cringe-worthy reactions from employers upon seeing their alma mater on resumes, the petition targets none other than…

hi, I have a question!
so, I'm someone who's partially Filipino. my lola came over to the United States from the Philippines, and my mom was born here. through some unfortunate events, I have no contact with that side of my family, so I have no way to ask anyone...well anything really.
Basically, I was wondering if you guys had any advice for someone trying to reconnect with their Filipino heritage but has no family to do it with.
Hey there!
If you're looking for anything specific, it's good to know what part of the PH your mom's side comes from. I'm not sure if you have contact with your mom and lola and just have no contact with the extended family, or you have no contact with them as well.
So here's some options:
If you can, find out what part of the Philippines your family is from. For example, I'm from Quezon City but my Nanay's (mom's) side is from Butuan and my Tatay's (dad's) side is from Batangas.
From there you can do a bit of research or even tap into the many Filipino communities online (often on Facebook. I'm so sorry) to ask about that area. Those who are from there will be thrilled to share their own lived experiences about their hometowns.
Now if you can't get that info or are looking to connect to your Filipino heritage as a whole, it's always good to connect via your interests.
Are you into comics? Then check out Filipino komiks! Are you into cartoons? There aren't many, but there are a handful of Filipino cartoons, and SO SO MANY Filipino animators. Are you into sports? Check out Pinoys in those sports or even Pinoy sports like Kali Eskrima (or... Basketball, Filipinos love basketball). Are you into podcasts? Check out some Filipino podcasts (which you've done already 😉). Are you into Filipino music? Check out some awesome OPM (Original Pinoy Music) and the musicians behind them. Are you into fashion? Check out amazing Pinoy fashion, maybe even indigenous fashion by Filipino craftspeople. Are you into art? Follow Pinoy artists online! Are you into Youtubers and online personalities? Check out some Pinoy ones! Are you into Filipino food? Discover more and go to where Pinoys congregate for good Filipino food!
If there's anything specific you're interested in, I can shout out a few specific examples.
Ultimately, Pinoys are... Very Online. You'll find them pretty much everywhere on social media, and that opens up a ton of awesome resources for people. You can find a lot of Pinoy content on Youtube.
In many places there are also places Pinoys will congregate, often Churches or Filipino restaurants or Filipino stores or even little Manila communities, so you can visit those!
And if there's a Filipino festival somewhere near you, attend them! It'll be awesome for you to immerse yourself in the culture that way and meet people who'll be happy to welcome you.
Sorry if this was a long answer, but I hope it helps!
Motzie
