"For you!"
Baby PH and Cebu
Honestly, I draw baby! PH with Cebu a lot. I would like to go about it more, but in my headcanons, Piri was definitely born in Cebu and spent a bit of time being raised by her.
Cebu was quite important to him at this part of his life, as a lot of the events at the beginning of Spanish colonization centered around her. From Magellan's expedition to her being his first capital city, allying with the Spaniards in invading Luzon, and being considered as "PH's Cradle of Christianity", she played quite a significant role in his early beginnings. I remember listening to a talk by a Bikol historian who was also an expert on Cebuano history. He got asked a lot why he's an expert on Cebu of all places, and he answered that in order to understand what happened in 1521 and the events after, you have to go back in Cebu. Manila later eclipsed her importance, but her impact on him remains undeniable.
I think while they only spent 44 years living together, that time spent was engraved in Piri's mind. He looked at that time as what was "ideal" and a "what if" if Spain hadn't come. Of course, this comes with a lot of romanticization on his part.. and sometimes at the expense of her,, Honestly their relationship, while definitely not hostile, can get pretty complicated sometimes. o)-( she's kiiiind of a hater on some of Piri's life decisions that's all I can say lol

Babies with their ✨protective bracelets✨
What I find really sweet is that all three have their own bracelets that are worn to protect against the evil eye. It's called 'ojo' or 'mal del ojo' in Spanish and 'usog' or 'buyag' in the Philippines. They're mostly worn by children but I've seen adults occasionally wear them.
Some info on the bracelets, and a disclaimer: these are only one of the varieties as I'm sure that there are other variations, traditions or beliefs associated with these types of protective amulets. Though I'm focusing on these varieties for now.
For MX's his bracelet has a central charm consisting of Ojo de venado, which translates as "Deer's eye" and refers to the seed of mucuna mutisiana. The bracelet can be made of cord or beads but they say that once the seed cracks then that means it has successfully absorbed a curse meant for the wearer.

For CB's the central charm Azabache (Jet) is used instead for protection. It's a gemstone mineraloid that's created from wood under extreme pressure and is the lowest rank of coal. The bracelet itself can be made of gold, beads or cord!

For PH's I had the help of @sweaty-clouds who was incredibly kind to share with me some of the bracelets, and meaning behind them ;v;. PH's bracelet is made of coral beads (though recently plastic as well) with red being the most popular color. They also usually come with a lubigan/habak pouch filled with paper inscribed with tiny prayers inside that's pinned to the shirt, but sadly that's not visible in this doodle.

#hetalia#hws philippines#hws mexico#hws cuba#yay folk medicine!!!#this is always such a neat similarity to me hehe#also for babies the habak is pinned on the shirt but for older children#they're usually attached to a cord and worn around the waist hidden under clothes#atleast from my experience#the pouch is the most common one but there's some niche designs someone gave me one made out of a bullet shell once#wore it as a necklace adsfdgj

random hws philippines food hcs
He loves food but he has more of a “eat to live” than a “live to eat” mentality these days… he’s not very meticulous when it comes to preparing food and would opt for shortcuts than stick to tradition like using sachet sinigang mix instead of sampalok cuz it gets the job done 🤷♀️.
I think he can be a pretty good cook if he’s given the resources and time. He does miss the taste of a more authentic ulam, but tbh he’d rather seek out specific hole-in-the-walls or eat his relatives’ cooking instead because he likes eating with family so much haha.
Doesn’t really like the Filipino food in malls or upscale restaurants 😭. I think likes going to carinderias and specialty places like paresans, sutukils, sattihans, etc but places like Mesa are like an ekis for him cause all he could think is him making the dish at home for less of the price lol
Places with unlimited rice are an exception LMAO he’s attracted to them like a moth to a flame 😔 waiters are flabbergasted at the amount of rice he could store. Also fastfood restaurants with unlimited gravy, he’s a fucking MENACE when it comes to the gravy station he treats the damn thing like a soup dispenser
People think he’s a heavy meat eater but he’s actually not. His daily diet mostly consists of fish, sauteed vegetables, soup and rice. He gives off that impression because whenever guests are invited to his home he always cooks meat, but that’s more about his way of showing hospitality than his eating habits. He would never cook veggies for a guest; he thinks it's weird and cheap (his opinion not mine 😭)
He does however really love going to samgyeopsals (or samgyupsal/samgyups in colloquial Filipino) for special occasions. Yong Soo introduced him to the concept, and he's been obsessed with it ever since. Samgyeopsals are extremely popular in PH; I even saw some people having them at their homes for their media noche instead of a traditional PH spread! He loves the communal aspect of it… and the unlimited meat deals—
He actually has a bigger spice tolerance than you'd expect. While Filipinos in general are stereotyped as having one of the worst spice tolerance in SEA, PH does have specific regions that have spicy cuisine (ex. Bicol, Cordillera, and Bangsamoro), and he did live in Mexico's house at intervals when he was younger… so compared to someone like Manila or Cebu, samyang noodles won't kill him lmao.
Hates biscocho or any hard biscuit with passion because it reminds him too much of the crappy rations he had to endure during his Manila galleon days. No amount of sugar will make him like it, he did Not have a good time on those ships.
Has a coffee addiction. Cannot start a day without coffee. While uses a lot of instant coffee for convenience, I think he's quite invested in local coffee scenes and enjoys a good cup of Kapeng barako. His relationship with kape in general:

#hetalia#hws philippines#ph headcanons#piri and food have been on my mind ever since that ph cuisine disk horse on twitter few months ago lol#so here's a small compilation of hcs haha

The altepetl (city-states) that made up the Triple-Alliance, nowadays most commonly known as the "Aztecs" though this label is of relatively recent origin and was never in use during their time.
From front to back: Texcoco, Tlacopan, and Tenochtitlan. Their human names are Noxochicoztli, Teoxihuitl, and Matlalihuitl respectively if anyone's curious ;v;
It's important to remember while all three spoke Nahuatl as their main language and shared the same religion, they didn't consider themselves as belonging to the same people. Texcoco was mainly inhabited by the Acolhua, and Tlacopan by the Tepaneca which while sister groups to the Mexica (who mainly inhabited Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco) they had a distinct history and identity which is beyond the scope of this post but I hope to go over in detail someday. I find a bit of a shame that both Texcoco and Tlacopan tend to be downplayed or ignored in favor of the Mexica when they also contributed a lot to the alliance.
Fun facts(?: the prestige dialect of Nahuatl that was spoken throughout the valley of Mexico at the time is based on the Texcocan dialect. Thought by both native and non-natives alike to the most refined and elegant manner of Nahuatl speech.
In the tributary system both Tenochtitlan and Texcoco would each receive 2/5 of tribute collected, while Tlacopan would receive the remaining 1/5.
#hws tenochtitlan#hws texcoco#hws tlacopan#this is amazing!!!#love the colors and the details put into everything 🫶#i can feel the intensity of their aura from here 🫡
