DEVELOPING BREAKING NEWS: A Suspected Butuanon Loan Sharker attacking borrower's victim sparks outrage on camera in Agusan del Norte [#K5NewsFMExclusive]
BUTUAN, AGUSAN DEL NORTE -- In a distressing incident spreadly captured like wildfires on social media, an unidentified Butuanon female suspect, described as wearing a light pink t-shirt & green pants, has been implicated in a violent act against a borrower in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. The incident took place at a local sari-sari store Monday (February 26th, 2024), causing an uproar among netizens online.
The graphic video, shared by a concerned individual named Ms. Jessim Oropo Dalen shown exclusively to 'K5 News FM', portrays the suspect confronting the borrower, who seems to be struggling to repay a loan either online or in-person via banks. The footage captures the suspect physically assaulting the victim in a public setting.
The clear description of the suspect, clad in a light pink t-shirt and green pants during this said incident, along with the violent nature of the assault, has unsettled the community and raised fears about the presence of loan sharks in the Agusan del Norte region. The risks rarely involved in illegal lending practices, which frequently involve coercion and aggression to ensure loan repayment on time, have been highlighted in this incident.
The case is being investigated by local authorities in Butuan, and they are incentivized for anyone who has relevant information to submit it thru the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO). The videos shared exclusively on Facebook (owned by Meta Platforms Inc.), have sparked widespread interest and criticism, leading to calls for justice for the victim and stricter measures against loan sharks. This also emphasizes the importance of financial literacy and responsible borrowing habits.
Efforts are underway to capture the suspect and ensure justice is later served as the investigation progresses, with a commitment to the safety and welfare of the community members being the top priority.
Updates on the investigation will soon to be provided between OneNETnews and K5 News FM as new details emerge.

Hello Piri 🕵🏾
I see that you have 82 provinces, that's a lot! How is the nature of your relations with them? 👀
The 18 Provinces are like my siblings, and their children are the 82 Regions, so that kind of makes me their uncle!

They're a blast when it comes to family gatherings, though we'll need to prepare a ton of food in advance. Cebu often brings lechon, he cooks it himself. Batangas has her comforting creamy Lomi, while Albay would rather sprinkle sili (hot peppers) on all of her dishes— like Bicol Express

We also have 8 twins that, okay sue me but I forget which is which a lot of times. Like Ilocos Norte/Sur, Misamis Oriental/Occidental, Agusan Del Norte/Del Sur, etc. . . They look so alike so I have to say pasensya a lot. Remembering people is not really my forte hahaha
Then occasionally I would forget that Zamboanga Del Norte and Del Sur aren't triplets with Zamboanga Sibugay. Pagpasensyahan na po si Tito lol

Though there's one that neither a Province or a Region— Manila.
He's really a rebellious spirit, but also kind of a rich pretty boy. So, it's like if you mixed in me and Mahárlika's personalities, you get Manila.
It's real awkward when they ask if Manila is our child tho, me and Lika are pretty much brothers :^
#Hetalia#hws philippines#ask-the-pearloftheorient#Admin is from the Katagalugan but has Lola/Grandma from Bicol and trust me#Albay food rules

Compounding this issue is the scarcity of systematic excavations across the Philippines. With over 7,000 islands comprising our nation’s geography, conducting thorough archaeological explorations becomes a Herculean task, both logistically and financially. As a result, large swathes of our history remain untouched and unexplored.
Furthermore, there’s a tendency to favor grand historical narratives over the smaller, everyday discoveries that offer invaluable insights into past societies. This preference often stems from nationalist agendas, promoting a sanitized view of history that overlooks the nuances and complexities of our shared past. By neglecting these smaller finds, we risk distorting our understanding of the past and perpetuating narrow interpretations that fail to capture the full spectrum of human experience.
Take, for instance, the controversy surrounding the elusive Kalaga Putuan Crescent (KPC) – a purported kingdom located in what we now know as Butuan in Agusan del Norte. The mere mention of this kingdom has the potential to rewrite the narrative of pre-colonial Philippine history. A recent study delves into the depths of this “lost kingdom,” intertwining genetic and archaeological evidence in an impressive attempt to unveil the mysteries of precolonial Philippine culture.
This publication projects optimism, advocating for the power of scientific archaeology in the Philippines. Yet, amid the excitement, there’s a shadow of controversy, which highlights the need for more stringent, ethical research practices in archaeology to ensure our cultural artifacts are not misused or misrepresented.

Marketing Abaca Fiber: Insights from Caraga Region Farmers

Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the marketing practices and the profitability of establishing Abaca in the Caraga Region. A total of One Thousand Two Hundred Fifty-Six (1256) farmers, Seventy-Seven (77) traders, and three (3) processors were interviewed as the respondents of the study. Their names were obtained from the Philippine Fiber Development Authority (PhilFIDA) and the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of the concerned municipalities of the Region. Data gathering activities included interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs), and stakeholder forums were conducted to validate and gather additional information. The said Focus Group Discussion and Stakeholders’ Forum were attended by the farmers, officers in various cooperatives, traders, representatives from the regional line offices, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAO), Academe, Provincial Agriculture Officer. In the Caraga Region, abaca traders are situated in Agusan del Norte 28 or 36.36%, Agusan del Sur 25 or 32.47%, Surigao del Sur 24 or 31.17% and no traders in the province of Surigao del Norte. The one who sets the price for abaca fiber is the trader/buyer 99.28 % and only 0.71% sets by the farmer. The means of contacting buyers are referrals by the farmers 32.96%; traders will come to the farmers 27.46%, recommended by the Local Government Unit (LGU) 23.88%, and traders who are known by the cooperatives 15.68%. The buyers’ requirements in buying abaca fibers are quality 63.69% and volume 36.30%. Traders engage in buying Abaca for more than 15 years or 38.5%; 1-5 years, 30.12%; 11-15 years, 18.07% and 6-10 years, 13.25%. The means of transporting abaca fiber is through motorcycles 43.37% and hired trucks 56.61%. The estimated monthly volume sold is 1- 5 metric tons or 92.77% and 6 – 10 metric tons. The farmer’s Abaca fibers through Barangay or Municipal Traders, Cooperatives/Consolidators, Baling and Grading Establishment, Processors, and exporters. The issues and concerns for the traders are the following: classification and grading of fiber, cheating abaca bundles where stones inserted to increase weights, abaca fiber not adequately dried, and piles of Abaca are mixed with other fibers. The profitability of abaca farming for 1 hectare /year is the average of P48,000 for a typical farm, while for a good farm is P115,200 – 192,000.

Introduction
The "Manila hemp," known internationally for its world-class fiber, continues to be one of the priority agricultural commodities of the Department of Agriculture (DA). The Philippines supplies more than 87.4 percent of the total abaca fiber market and earns more than $111.33 million in global abaca trade annually (PCA, 2017).
In 2022, as per PhilFIDA data, Caraga ranked third among the top abaca-producing regions in the country with an estimated 10,000 metric tons (MT) of fiber production, next to Bicol Region (1st) and Davao Region (2nd).
Abaca is in great demand in the world market today because of its lucrative value in industries such as making security papers, paper money, ropes, insulators, and other handicrafts. The most important part of the Abaca is the stalk which is the source of the fiber. Abaca fiber is superior to all other natural fibers because of its great strength and its resistance to the action of water. It is three times stronger than cotton, the most potent natural fiber.
The country’s overall fiber production is estimated at 62,640.63MT, remaining the top abaca-producing country, supplying 85% of the fiber demand in the world.
Pulp, which accounts for 69.2 percent market share of the abaca exports, has reported earnings of $ 79.4 million or an increase of 11.7 percent. Abaca cordage, which grabbed a market share of 10 percent, fell to $ 11.4 million. Fiber crafts exports also fell 67.3% to $3.7 million (The Philippine Star, 2016). The pulp manufacturing industry is the leading end-user of abaca fiber, followed by cordage manufacturing and fiber craft industry. It was reported that due to the increasing use of abaca fiber in specialty paper manufacturing, the demand for fiber among pulp manufacturers is constantly surging, and the trend is expected to prevail in 2014-2019. Among the leading abaca fiber suppliers, Ching Bee Trading Corporation dominates the market in the Philippines, followed by Tag Fibers, Inc. and Selinrail International.

For the past half-decade, the Abaca industry helped boost the country’s economy from its export earnings with an annual average of P4.7 billion, mainly in the Visayas and Mindanao Islands. Abaca fibers are cultivated across 176,549 hectares of farmlands by over 122,758 farmers. Moreover, in recent years, it has been perceived that aside from the substantial contributions of Abaca to the economy, its utilization can also provide numerous ecological advantages (www.philfida.da.gov.ph, 2019).
With the continuing development of the fiber craft industry in the Philippines, the abaca fiber market has been witnessing a boost due to the growing demand for gifts, toys, and housewares. Moreover, increasing consumer inclination for lifestyle products is further expected to strengthen the growth trend for abaca crafts in the coming years. There are only two significant exporters of abaca fiber in the world – the Philippines and Ecuador, with the Philippines accounting for over 80% of the global production of abaca fiber. In the Philippines, the abaca plant is cultivated across 130 thousand hectares of land by over 90 thousand farmers.
Asia Pacific was the largest market for abaca fiber in terms of production and consumption over the past few years, and the trend is expected to continue over the forecast period. The Philippines, the world's largest abaca producer, hold a significant market share in Asia Pacific. A considerable portion of produced abaca fiber in the Philippines is internally consumed, while a substantial amount is exported to various countries, including U.S., Japan, and other European countries. The Philippine government supports initiatives to increase high-quality abaca fiber production levels for domestic consumption and export. This is expected to strengthen its market positioning further and open market opportunities for new players over the next seven years (Erie News, 2019).
Thus, this undertaking is critical to fill the data gaps of the recently conducted Value Chain Analysis of the Commodity in the Region. Profiling tells us the actual scenario of how many abaca farmers engaged in this commodity, what support programs they availed in our present administration, what they need, and what other issues and concerns so that our government can also make some intervention programs for our abaca industry.
Major end-user industries of abaca fiber include paper and pulp, fibercraft, and cordage. The paper and pulp industry is the largest end-user industry for abaca fiber, followed by cordage manufacturing and fiber craft industry. Increasing the application scope of abaca fiber in specialty paper manufacturing is likely a critical factor driving demand for abaca fibers in the paper & pulp industry. The rising market for cordage in industrial applications, including the production of ropes for ships, is expected to boost its demand over the next seven years.

Fearless Forecast Time
It’s pageant time again for my blog. The Miss Universe Philippines 2023 preliminaries just concluded today and I can now properly make a prediction on who I think deserves to win the coveted crown.
So... I'm just gonna make this real quick.
If I’m to place my bet on who would be the next Miss Universe Philippines, I’d place it on these five:
Cebu Province • Cavite • Bohol • Pampanga • Makati
However, anyone from this following group can sneak up there, depending on what happens on finals night:
Pasig • Baguio • Bulacan • Davao Oriental • Sorsogon
Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing in the finals the Taguig, Negros Oriental, Eastern Samar, Capiz, and Parañaque.
My last and ultimate wish is that—although I personally think they may have slimmer chances than anyone mentioned above—for Zambales, Agusan del Norte, and Benguet (especially BENGUET) to get a miracle and somehow make it through.

BALITANG LOKAL: New Local Radio Station 'Radyo Sincero' launched in Dumaguete City [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- A brand-new local radio station hit the Negrosanon airwaves in late-August this year as 95.9 'Radyo Sincero' launched right here in the City of Gentle People, popularly known as Dumaguete. It is situated on the 2nd floor of an unknown building, across Sunbets Building in 'Brgy. Tinago, Baybay, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental', and on the right is next door to former FM radio translator of 105.7 DYSQ-FM's Radyo Bisdak: Siquijor, just only few meters before the highway of Rizal Boulevard.
News reaching that the Negrosanons is now all abuzz with excitement as it readies itself to go on the air, promising to bring out a fresh mix of news and music to this airwaves.
Speaking exclusively to OneNETnews, a male Assistant Station Controller was barely able to contain the excitement over the first day of Radyo Sincero. He revealed that 'Radyo Sincero' will broadcast the popular syndicated radio programme 'Sincerely, Ate Arlyn' of 'Herbz Med Pharma', to be heard across all regions in the Visayas and Mindanao.
The nameless Assistant Station Controller said Radyo Sincero operates the best music on free radio, besides informative and relevant reports to the Filipino people. The station will cover the latest local news in Dumaguete City and regional updates from Negros Oriental and plans to expand the coverage to Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor in the Central Visayas region.
The identity of the station manager of Radyo Sincero in Dumaguete City remains undisclosed at this time. In addition, whether or not the station is owned -- if it's affiliated or commercially independent remains undetermined. Speculations towards its provisional authority or possible disapproval by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of a regional radio franchise are reportedly under its official ambit while waiting for the clearance of Philippine president 'Ferdinand Romualdez (Bongbong) Marcos Jr.' [BBM].
Things have turned skeptical as yet, though, there has been no confirmation on the test broadcast or official launch date for Radyo Sincero in Dumaguete City would be held. But the latter's Facebook pages (a social media company of Meta Platforms Inc. [MPi]), have revealing all the frequencies of Radyo Sincero provincial stations in Mindanao and the Visayas, with their likes of 101.9 in Butuan, Agusan del Norte; 88.7 in General Santos, South Cotabato; 102.9 in Koronadal, South Cotabato; 100.7 in Kidapawan, Cotabato; 94.3 in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; and 93.1 in Zamboanga City. In the Visayas, frequencies include 106.1 in Canla-on, Negros Oriental (replacing 'Radyo Bisdak: Canla-on' under Bisdak Media Group), and now, 95.9 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Looking ahead, Radyo Sincero plans to tackle the hottest issues in their commentaries from the male radio anchor hosts in the coming weeks, while continuing to provide top-notch music throughout the day and night.
