One of my friends have requested to put the Philippine Pageantry here, so I'll give her a chance to do so since her decent favorite was Binibining Pilipinas 2003 (English: Miss Philippines 2003).

Chelsea Manalo, the first half Black winner of Miss Universe Philippines. In a sea of mestiza faces and Eurocentric beauty standards, may the sight of her lead the way out of internalized racism and plant the seed of self-acceptance in aspiring Black Filipino artists, models, and other public figures.

Miss Universe Philippines Eastern Samar 2023 National Costume: An Bulawanon nga Katbari ha Sinirangan.

The costume represents the harmony of the agricultural practices with the region, and features symbols of each of the municipalities of Eastern Samar. The costume is made mostly of natural fibers and materials, and was made with the participation of local students.

This was the winner of the 2023 Miss Universe Philippines Costume contest.

When was the last time I thought of her?

I miss living close to her mountain, even if it means there are occasional pythons under the bed. (They don't bite.)

I miss romanticizing the moon, feeling the cold of the night, reading about Philippine mythology that the local accountant with a computer printed out for me.

Being a young admirer of nature, writing on my journal about the little magical experiences I feel, listening to Kitchie Nadal's Buwan, thinking that someday I will be brave enough to venture the mountains alone at night, and if she sees me and offers me a place in her kingdom and never return, then so be it.
