the duality of tumblr is incredible..
blog gets marked explicit by mistake? fixed in less than ten minutes.
but have them try to figure out a solution as to why i canât delete an old post of mine that i have had stuck in my queue for almost two years now? WHO KNOWS?? they clearly dunno how to either!!
#talking to myself#i literally can not do a thing to it. i can hit the tiny trash can several times a day and it still shows up there when i refresh the queue.#cant edit it at all. cant move it to drafts. cant schedule it. can do absolutely nothing to it. it is just there. possibly forever. and it#wouldnt bother me so much if i already didnt post the final correct version of this post years ago. like i dont need a messed up version of#it floating around. especially since its about tpns2 and no one wants that. & it's like karma that i have to see it every darn day when i#sort my queue out. me at myself: 'oh you defended s2? really? ya still feel that way? huh?? what about now??' ffs i want it GONE ALREADY.#but yeah.. had a little panic about the marked error. like all i did was try to update my profilepic & it wouldnt save. til i noticed my#settings were changed and it wouldnt let me undo it. surprised support even got back in 6 minutes. now if they could only FIX MY OTHER ISSUE

if you do not want to read a sexually explicit story, do not read any further!!!
You and Butcher were⌠let's just say you tolerated each other. He always hated how bratty you were sometimes, how much you talked back and made fun of him. But for some reason, he was so overly protective of you. Grabbing your arm to stop you when you were going on a solo mission. You always acceded, sighing as the two of you stepped into the car.
You didn't know why he was so protective, after all, you both got into fights every other day. God, he was so stupid, nitpicking everything you did, every action you took, you couldnât take it.
He was such an asshole.
One night, after a particularly long and rough mission, you and Butcher were the only ones left at the office, butcher sitting on the couch and drinking a huge bottle of whiskey, the drunkenness washing over him in waves.
You were gathering your stuff, ready to head back home, when suddenly, you heard a mumble.
ââŚWant a swig?â butcher raises his bottle, his eyes glazed over, staring at you with an expression you can't exactly pinpoint, but god, does it send shivers down your spine.
ââŚOkay.â
You set down your bag, sitting down on the couch next to him. His hands pulling your legs onto his lap. He was being so goddamn nice to you, and you had no idea why. He hated you, and you hated him, it was almost unnatural.
It shouldâve been unnatural.
You take a swig, the cold liquid burning your throat, droplets dripping to your chin.
âAh⌠whereâd you get this shit, huh? You say, your lips pursing.
âLiquor.â
ââŚNo, I meant the store.â
ââŚYeah, it's called liquor.â
You look at him, confused. He then pulls out his phone, showing you a photo of him, holding up a peace sign, in front of a store called Liquor.
You snort, giggling as you push his phone away. âGod, your so fucking dumb.â You slap his arm, earning a playful scoff from him.
âAh, I thought you knew that by now, darlinâ.â He says, flashing you that stupid smirk of his. He doesnât smile often. It's⌠nice.
You turn on the TV, watching some dumb infomercial about quick dinners. He glances at you, his eyes trailing over your face, your neck, and then that pretty little necklace strung across your collarbone. So pretty, makes him want to wrap his hands around your throat, stringing pretty, mottled marks all over your neck.
You look at him, his eyes snapping away, anxiously taking another swig of whiskey. Jesus, what was in this
âYou feelinâ alright? You look⌠drunk.â you giggle, leaning back on the couch. He nods, adjusting his legs. âYeah, yeah. Iâm good.â
A random soap opera comes on, and the main character cheats on his wife, having sex in the bed. Awkwardness fills the air, your eyebrows raising at the dumb show.
ââŚThis is stupid.â You chuckle, seeing the wife walk in, the husband over dramatically gasping. As the show continues, it gets even more outrageous, the woman the husband cheated with, is the wifeâs twin sister. You and Butcher both crack up, the actual wifeâs lover popping out of the closet.
Butcherâs hand lands on your thigh, laughing his ass off. Soon, however, you both notice his presence on your thigh, his rough, calloused hand smoothing over the fabric of your pants. His hand doesnât move, his eyes unwavering. Why was he looking at you like that? What was this?
His hand squeezes your thigh, And not in an awkward way, as if heâs pushing the boundaries, wondering when youâll pull back. ButâŚ
You don't.
Your breathing picks up, Butcher giving you a maddened gaze, the little bit of hair curled over his forehead suddenly standing out.
â..Butcher-â you mutter, his body softly moving closer to yours.
âJust shut up.â
He slams his lips into yours, your hands jumping to his chest. The taste of liquor lingers on your lips, and the scent of cigarettes litters the air around him. It was a bitter, dusky atmosphere, but god, was it addicting.
He pushes you down on the couch, his hands on either side of you, digging his nails into your soft flesh. It stung, and it was probably gonna leave marks, but the very thought of that excited you.
Your hands tangle in his hair, his lips finding their way to your neck.
âJesus, sweetheartâŚâ he mumbles into your neck, the vibrations of his voice making the warmth burrowed in your stomach thrum.
âOff.â You mumble. âWhat?â Butcher says, pausing for a moment. âOff.â You reach for his chest, unbuttoning the buttons on his shirt.
After he catches on, he quickly strips down his coat, then his shirt, his shoes, and then he reaches his pants, hurriedly fumbling with his belt.
âFuckâŚâ he mumbles, tossing the belt somewhere in the room. He was filled with adrenaline, knowing that he was about to take you right then and there.
Your hands slip down his chest, shakily breathing out as he bites and nibbles on your neck.
His lips trail down to your collarbone, your hands tugging on his hair, emanating groans and whines from him. You always liked pulling guys' hair, it was just a thing with you, but this time round, he actually enjoyed it.
âfuck, sweetheart, that ainât fairâŚâ he groans, his hands gently pushing your thighs apart. âTsk, tsk, tskâŚâ he tuts, his thumb tapping your thigh.
He shimmies off your sweats, his fingers grazing over those little red panties of yours, admiring the sight.
âSuch a pretty thingâŚâ he mutters, his arm hooking under your leg, pulling it up onto his shoulder, kissing the side of your knee.
âButcher, stop teasing me already.â You grumble, squirming a little.
âStop being so impatient, eh? let me savor you, just a little bit.â
His fingers hook under the hem of your panties, pulling it down and revealing your throbbing pussy, his thumb rubbing slow circles against your sensitive clit.
âJesus, butcher..â you moan, your eyes fluttering closed. His other hand slips under your neck, tutting as he presses his growing erection against your core.
âEyes on me baby. that's it, there she isâŚâ your eyes flicker open, his eyes interlocked with yours. He leans down to kiss you, the taste of him swirling around in your mouth.
He pumps himself a couple of times, lining himself up with your entrance.
He takes it slow, pushing himself in gently, careful not to hurt you. Eventually, he bottoms out, a small sigh escaping his mouth.
âJesus, sweetheart, so tightâŚâ he groans, setting a steady pace, grabbing your thighs to center himself.
After a bit, his thrusts get harder and faster, his lips biting and sucking on your neck, the groans and moans emitting from him making your legs shake.
âSo wet for me baby, such a fuckinâ slut fâmeâŚâ
His lips drift down to your breasts, kissing and biting the sensitive skin of your bosom.
âOh, fuck..â you whine, his tongue swirling around your tender nipple, your hands trying to grip anything, something to steady yourself. Your hands land on his shoulders, sharp nails grazing his skin.
âSo- big..â you whimper, the knot in your stomach growing tighter and tighter.
âI know baby, taking it so well, so good for me.â
His thumb circles your swollen clit, his nose rubbing up against your jaw as he angles his thrusts deeper, slamming into the back wall of your pussy.
âMm cmon sweetheart, I know you wanna come, can feel your pretty pussy clenching around me.â The couch rocks to the beat of his movements, the wood creaking under you.
âMâ close..â you moan, your hips pulling back with each thrust and meeting his, the clap of your bodies slamming together echoing across the room.
Your walls start to contract, Butcher becoming a sweaty, sloppy mess on top of you. His thrusts get even harder, chasing after his climax.
âMâ gonna come darlinâ.. gonna come.â he moans, his cock twitching inside of you, making you shiver.
He suddenly grabs your neck, latching his lips onto yours as his pace gets rapidly fast, your eyes snapping shut as you tune into the moans and whimpers heâs letting out.
Your walls clench and your eyes roll back in your head, your orgasm washing over you in waves. Soon after, Butcher climaxes, his seed painting your gummy walls.
He collapses on top of you, just laying there, all sweaty, for a good 5 minutes.
ââŚThat wasâŚgood.â You mumble. ââŚJust goodâŚ?â He chuckles, kissing your temple, the post-coitus drowsiness falling over you both.

OKAY. SO. i'm going to be directly pulling from the wiki + ttrpg text & abridging some of it. here we go. little bowl of seeds for u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so. the circumstances leading up to the trigger event influence the power granted. half the state of mind, and half the scenario that they're in. taylor was in a situation where she was isolated, blind and powerless and felt like everyone was conspiring against her-- either directly (planning for fucking weeks to get her into the locker) or indirectly (ignoring her inside, not letting her out) etc. she triggered as a master, someone who can see everything and control so many things so exactly and specifically and she has something (her bugs) there for her, in some sort of fucked up companionship, in response to that. the overview is as follows!!
^this is the gist of it!!!!!! the ttrpg also goes into more in depth on many of these-- i won't send u 1 billion screenshots Now (spoilers in the gdocs u r Not allowed in there) but. here r a couple irt the nhw for flavor :}
also holy shit now i can be so so so fucking annoying about Why i gave the nhw the powers i did... i kind of got into it w/ the trigger events. but like. still..!!!!!!!!!!!
OHHHHHHHH MY GOD. HOLY SHIT. YEAH UR RIGHT I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT FROM THE WRONG ANGLE. OH MY GODDDD DUDE . THIS IS SO FUCKING TASTY. MY MIND IS GOING ABT A BILLION MILES AN HOUR RNNNN ohhhh god this got so long i gotta out it under a cut. im having so many thoughts dude
i would LOVE the essay about each of the nhw triggers btw. i can SEE your vision i can FEEL your vision. william feeling so fucking isolated in his hometown leading him to have master powers. his. idk weird relationship with ghosts/monsters/death coupled with his EXTREME near death experience manifesting in his breaker powers. UGHHH thats so good. TRUMP POWERS BEING CAUSED BY DIRECT INVOLVEMENT BY ANOTHER CAPE IN THE TRIGGER EVENT. VIRION WATCHING HIS DAD SLAUGHTER THEIR ENTIRE PARTY/FRIENDS/FAMILY. dakota being lost in the crowd after losing his parents, knowing something bad is happening but not knowing exactly what, catching glimpses of the fight and the blood and the horror but still not fully understanding, not knowing how or if he'll ever find his parents again and that manifesting in his thinker powers. also that zone/quick/farsight thing holy FUCK thats so failsafe. "loss of autonomy, being situationally restricted/overwhelmed" manifesting as sensing people in his immediate environment. "results from tunnel vision in views/character, incorrect perceptions" (can we say dakota damascus hero worship!) manifesting as powers that go beyond the usual senses (fear/pain sense!). i honestly think the Quick part would come more from his second trigger, which is what gives him the Mover powers right? "panic, frantic inability to solve problems, rushed errors" <- not being able to catch katori in time, making the split second decision to fall after her, manifesting as his mover/thinker powers. being able to make those split second decisions midair and Actually Accomplish them, but by the time he triggered they were already too close to the ground and he couldnt save her anyway (<< and theres the tragic irony)
ohhhh i didnt mean to go off so much about failsafe but that just gave me a lot of feelings about his triggers :( ANYWAY THINKING ABOUT ASHE NOW. GOD. OKAY. right now. how are we feeling about Shaker/Breaker. ok ok im having a lot of thoughts here bear with me. idk if u have a more clear trigger for him in mind but the thing ive been thinking about all day since u sent me that first ask is. the call going out to evacuate because simurgh is coming. ashe's mom has to go get him from school and its a mad rush with all of the other parents trying to do the same thing. instead of immediately leaving, they go back to the house for some reason (she forgot something important? maybe her phone so she had no way to contact mark/see if he was okay? idk i havent worked that out yet.) and shes just. running around frantically grabbing things getting ready to leave and ashe is standing in the doorway not knowing what to do or how to help. and its like an earthquake hits. (i just keep thinking about chris's death and how fucking. sudden and brutal it was it has stuck with me for some reason). something big or heavy falls on her and just . immediately crushes either one or both of her legs. totally unable to move. and ashe starts panicking and shes obviously panicking but trying so hard to keep it together not to scare ashe anymore than he already is. and she tells him to go, tells him to follow the other people who are leaving, maybe find one of their neighbors and go with them. (side note here. if she got her phone. i want her to text mark here and tell him to come home. something really short and terrifying and panic inducing that breaks him out of his hesitation. "need help, come home, cant leave" something like that. worlds most miserable man these are the last words he has of his wife aha) ashe doesnt want to leave his mom! hes just a kid he doesnt know what the endbringers are or why theyre so scary or why THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR is so bad!! she keeps telling him not to worry, that dad will meet him there when hes safe, ashe immediately asks something like "but what about you?" and its very. disney movie parent dying level of tragedy. he triggers when she eventually cant hold it together anymore either from the pain or the panic and just starts. screaming at him. ashe you need to go you cant stay here you need to leave me im not coming with you etc etc etc.
ANYWAY. ALL THIS TO SAY. shaker powers come from environmental/ambient danger. i.e. a literal endbringer attack. maybe the house isnt structurally sound anymore but he doesnt want to leave his mom. breaker powers come from . well this is more of me maybe forcing the issue but i want the trickster to be a separate form or something. the abstract stressors here being. he knows something bad is happening but he doesnt know exactly what. he knows his mom cant move but he wants her to be able to so she can leave with him, shes yelling at him telling him to go, he doesnt know where his dad is, he doesnt want to go by himself. etc etc do you feel the vision here. taking this directly from that last paragraph about breakers too but like "knowing a situation is dangerous but not wanting to leave" yknow!!!!! i dont know exactly how this would manifest yet but goddd just. imagining it as something like. his shaker powers are the ones he can actually control and use normally but the trickster/breaker powers is what he turns into in situations similar to his trigger, where someone he loves is in danger. but the irony of it is that he cant really control his actions as the trickster and he just kind of. goes berserk on whatever is around him. absolutely brutal, maybe a little sadistic; its kind of perfect for situations like overlord where they do actually need to kill someone to get out of the situation, but with things like his trigger. well. the only living thing around him was his mom. so . wasnt pretty. is this anything . im in so much pain about this
final FINAL side note. i know we have mark as a cauldron cape but even if we didnt i think both his classifications working so fucking well ESPECIALLY tinker "solutionless problems over long periods, resulting in a crisis moment" what is more of a solutionless problme than knowing you and your son have been marked by the simurgh and deciding that instead of following protocol youre going to say fuck it all and get the two of you out of there by. nuking your entire lives and faking new identities and struggling to bounce back from somehting like that all while knowing the inevitability of. the fact that youve BEEN MARKED BY THE FUCKING SIMURGH. (also striker "results from an immediate threat, usually a single object or individual" hello? coming home to find your son in some demonic berserk state and your wife a bloody mess on the floor all while theres this overbearing scream/singing in your head ??? okayyyyy)
#GOD. THIS IS SO MUCH. TO BE FAIR I DID WARN YOU I WOULD BE SO INSUFFERABLE ABOUT NHW WINTERS FAMILY WHEN I GOT TO LEARN ABOUT THEM.#I DID WARN YOU. HI. I LOVE THEM. IM THINKING ABOUT THM SO MUCH literally all but one of my FOUR current wip fics involve either ashe or mar#i love them so much. guck#new haven wards#hiiiiii ros. hi. ohhhh my god. oh my god. oh hhhh my god dude. okay enough of this im going back to reading about noelle FUCKING FINALLY#YIPPPE#asks#friends!!!#wormposting#intertexts#also side note not important but you DID ask me the other day what i think my powers would be in worm. i AM still going to say#changer because ayyyyy transgenderisms and appearance issues for Basically My Whole Life#BUT IM SO MAD . I WOULD PROBABLY ALSO BE A MASTER. THE ONE THAT SCARES ME THE MOST. GOD DAMN IT.#I MEAN MASTERS ARE REALLY COOL BUT IM A GUY WHO HAS WEIRD RELATIONSHIPS WITH PUPPET IMAGERY. AND THE MOST TRAUMATIC MOMENT OF MY LIFE HAS A#LOT TO DO WITH BETRAYAL AND ISOLATION AND ALIENATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#<< this is slash silly btw i fucking love thinking abt stuff like this because im an insane person

If you do smut can you do like stark!reader x peter parker (spiderman) are dating 3-4 month and y/n and peter had their very fluff first time then next morning y/n has hickies all over her neck and her thights stomach... and tony/ her dad sees it and is confronting them with itđ i love your stories đ¤¤
just saying hi
w/c: 2.5k
warnings: veryyyy suggestive, swearing, some pretty embarrassing moments
a/n: thank you babe! i didnât write the actual smut but yâall can guess what happened đ also this is super long i couldnât help myself
-
it was everything. it was everything you ever wanted your first time to be and more.
youâd brought up to peter during a make out session one night that you were ready to go farther than you two already have. there was one base you didnât hit yet. the fourth, the final. you were thinking about it for a while before that, and peter would be lying if he said he didnât.
your love has always been physical, whether itâs you kissing peterâs cuts after a mission or him tracing hearts on you with his fingers. thereâs also the more sexual side of things. that part, you both enjoy just as much, maybe even a little more because you know exactly how to make each other feel good after all the trial and error.
what better way to combine the two than, well, making love?
last night was your sign from the universe, your go ahead to do it. you had the compound to yourselves because your dad had taken all the âbig kidsâ out for the night. youâre both well into college, but he refuses to see you as adults. that meant no peter and no you. you two were a little offended until you realized you could make use of your alone time.
you started off searching for a movie. that turned into you wrestling peter for the remote because you didnât feel like watching back to the furure yet again. wrestling turned into you on top of him, which turned into you kissing him, which turned into peter throwing the remote somewhere and carrying you up to your room with his lips still on yours.
neither of you had to say it. you were on the same page, same wavelength, two brains in one as peter layed you down and trailed his kisses lower and lower.
peter was so gentle with you, except for when you told him not to be. those were the times he didnât hold back. he was attentive and sweet and showed you quite a few times how much he loves you. you showed him just the same. yeah, it was really everything.
âmorning, baby. you awake yet?â peter hums against the shell of your ear, arms wound comfortably around you. âkinda,â you mumble back with a goofy smile. he presses his lips to your ear and nuzzles his face in the side of your neck. âkinda... howâd you sleep?â you can hear the grin in his voice. his nose nudges your bare skin where a fresh hickey lies and makes you scrunch your own up.
âgood, really good. always love sleeping with you.â youâre both aware of the alternate meaning that has now. âfunny,â peter lets out a breathy laugh against you and brushes his thumb over your stomach where your shirt got ridden up. you sigh, enjoying his soft touch and reaching behind you to play with his curls. theyâre a lot messier than usual from you tugging on them all last night.
peter removes his face from your neck and carefully turns you onto your other side. youâre facing him now, eyes trained on his concerned expression. âhey, just wanna check. how are you feeling? still sore?â a tiny smile stretches your face. he really does care about you and how you feel after everything. you know for a fact most other guys wouldnât.
âi mean, yeah. you were... it was a lot, but iâll be fine in a few days i think.â the mention of peter being a lot makes color rush to his face. you laugh quietly at that, cupping one of his cheeks thatâs turning pink. âoh. i, um, i didnât know that. sorry.â he smiles shyly as you smooth your thumb over his warm skin. âdonât be. it wasnât as bad after i... adjusted a little,â you reassure him, making him lean into your palm.
âi really am sorry, y/n/n. can i make it up to you?â peter checks with you, eyes going up from yours to down your body. he hooks a finger in the waistband of your pajama shorts. âmake you feel better?â the way he finishes his question with a bite of his lip is definitely tempting. so is your stomach yelling at you to put some food in it. youâll have to wait.
âlater. right now, you can make me breakfast,â you beam at him and take his hand. peter pushes his palm against yours, letting you lace your fingers together as he puffs some air out of his cheeks. âyeah, thatâs gonna go well.â âiâm supervising. it will.â you capture his lips in a kiss, one he instantly reciprocates, free hand resting on your hip. just as itâs heating up, you break it.
âiâm hungry for actual food,â you giggle and roll out of his embrace. âok, ok, ok. letâs go see what we have,â peter gives in with a chuckle, grabbing the same hand he was just holding and following you down to the kitchen.
he ends up popping some frozen waffles into the toaster, you sitting up on the counter with your phone out while he struggles through the different settings. âshould i put it on bake? no, that doesnât sound right,â he talks to himself with eyes squinted in concentration. âyour dad made this thing so... detailed.â itâs an old stark industries toaster, one with options you probably donât even need.
âyeah because he loves his toast, so maybe donât break it. heâll kill you or something,â you half playfully half seriously suggest. peter is one clumsy guy. he tsks at you and crouches down to read the words on the dial. thereâs conveniently a setting for waffles, so he hits that one. heâs not sure how he hadnât noticed it before.
since heâs down there, he takes one of your ankles in both hands and starts to kiss up your leg. it tickles when he gets to your knee, drawing a giggle out of you, but your phone still blocks his face. youâre doing it on purpose. âbaby,â peter tries to get your attention in a soft voice. he presses a couple more kisses to your knee. you have to hold your breath so you donât laugh again.
âbaby girllll,â peter drags out, lips moving up your thigh. he nudges your phone with his nose much like a puppy would. âaye, iâm talkinâ to you here,â he says in a fake new york accent. you finally put it down next to you. âiâm listening.â youâre giving him a satisfied smile as he goes back to kissing you.
âjust saying hi,â he looks up at you and moves your shorts aside while he kisses further and further to where you want. you scoot closer to him on the counter.
thatâs when he stops. not only stops, gasps in horror. âwhat?â you ask quickly, his eyes fixed on your inner thighs. âi kind of, uh, marked you up. like, a lot.â he runs a finger gently over the bruised skin. youâre suddenly very aware of it now. it doesnât exactly hurt, just feels bumpy and weird. you peer down at yourself to see the damage, eyes going wide.
âshit... theyâre on my neck, too,â you remember, murmuring to him. youâll have to cover these up before everyone gets home. worry flashes across peterâs face. âoh my god, i didnât even realize. it- it was dark and you told me-â âpete, itâs okay. itâs pretty hot,â you stop his rambling, reaching down and putting a hand on his shoulder. he frowns up at you.
âreally? are you sure i didnât go too far? because you can tell me.â youâve always appreciated how much peter genuienly values your thoughts on things, in the bedroom and in other parts of your relationship. it does lead to a lot of second guessing, though. you squeeze his shoulder and let out a breath. âiâm sure, okay? itâs really not that serious. iâll just change so no one can see.â
peter winds an arm around one of your legs, body relaxing ever so slightly under your touch. âokay.â he gives your thigh one final kiss, then rests his chin on it. âwhat about your neck?â âuh...â you hadnât considered that yet. âmakeup? a scarf?â youâve seen enough tv to know neither of those work, but theyâre your only options.
âyup. mr. stark is really gonna kill me now,â peter says under his breath, tensing up all over again. you furrow your eyebrows at him. âwhat? weâre literally grown adults, we can do whatever we want-â
tony claps loudly as he steps into the kitchen, announcing his return home. peter jumps up from between your legs faster than fast. he moves so heâs next to you, and you hop down from the counter.
âhello, daughter of mine. spider of man,â your dad greets you two, you pulling down your shorts with a plastered on smile. âor would it be man of spider?â he plucks an apple from the bowl on the table as he ponders his question. steve and wanda file into the room next. âsecond one,â peter replies, grinning a little too much to be normal. tony takes note of that.
wanda comes over to the fridge for a snack, which is close to where you and peter are. âhow was last night?â you ask her to take the attention off you two. wanda settles on a yogurt and turns to you. âit was good. we shared a few hotel rooms, had our own party.â she glances over at peter, a knowing smirk playing on her lips. âseems like you two had a fun night of your own.â
peterâs mouth drops open. âhow did you-â he forgot she could read his mind and now knows everything that happened. you slap a hand over your forehead. âyou couldnât think about anything else? for, like, a minute?â you whisper yell at him. he uses his eyes to plead with you. âiâm sorry! i was looking at the hickeys-â he realizes what heâs saying. âcrap.â
shooting you a wink, wanda shuts the fridge and goes to join the rest of the team in the living room. lucky for you and peter, steve started lecturing tony about washing his fruit before he eats it. he didnât hear any of that. thereâs still the problem of your visible hickeys that you have zero seconds to hide.
âhow the fuck am i supposed to cover these? theyâre right in the center, peter!â you panic, your heart starting to race as peter fumbles for a dish towel. thatâs the best he could come up with? âno!â you toss it back at him. he throws it on the counter with a pained look. tony and steve make their way over to you.
âoh, hush. a couple of deadly pesticides wonât shake me, stevey boy,â tony insists and takes another big bite of his apple. steve huffs in disapproval and crosses his arms. âyouâre a big baby, tony. if youâre not gonna do the right thing, at least buy organic-â with the worldâs longest sigh, tony chucks his apple into the open garbage can.
âthere. no more apple discourse.â steve shakes his head at your dadâs behavior. âthat was a waste. you couldâve finished it.â ânot with your nagging into my literal ear.â steve raises his hands in surrender before making his way out of the kitchen. tony side steps past him and over to you. âenough of that now. letâs have a welcome home hug from my girl.â
you share a look with peter, a look of pure fear thatâs in both of your eyes. heâll definitely notice the hickeys if he gets that close to you. he holds out his arms expectantly while peter scratches the back of his own neck. âsure, dad. welcome home.â an awkward smile on your lips, you bury your face in your dadâs chest and wrap your arms around him in one motion. this way, he didnât have time to see you from too close up.
peter exhales in relief at the narrowly avoided disaster. thatâs until tony makes a request. âmissed me that much, kiddo, huh? come out of there.â âbut, iâm so comfortable. i wanna stay like this,â you insist, a niceness to your voice tony immediately sees through. he drops his arms from around you, eyeing peter suspiciously, who averts his gaze to the floor.
ânuh uh, you did something. both of you,â your dad states, taking a step to stand between you and peter. peter gulps down a breath before speaking. âmr. stark, it was-â tony holds up a hand. âdonât worry, kid. iâll figure it out.â
he gives peter a proper stare, searching him for clues of some sort. itâs a good thing he isnât wanda because the details of your night would have been exposed. he couldnât find anything, so now itâs your turn. heâs a little disappointed youâre the one hiding something.
âoh, y/n. not you,â tony sighs as he gives you a looking over. he starts with your face, your eyes following down as his do. itâs when he gets just past your chin that he sees them. the little hickeys littering your skin, some already deep shades of purple. he rips off his glasses in disbelief.
âabsolutely not.â he closes his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose with the same hand his glasses are in. âiâm not seeing this. iâm not seeing this if i donât look.â you scoff at his reaction. âdad, you know weâre together. you canât expect us to not...â âdonât say it,â tony begs, getting the urge to hurl his half eaten apple. he turns and faces peter.
âparker, you really did all of that?â peter only blinks, nervously meeting the eyes of his mentor. âto my daughter?â tony adds on to scare him even more. âi- i-â a burst of frustration comes out of peter. âyou left two teenagers alone the whole night. whatâd you think was gonna happen?â heâs shocked at his own words, his face showing it. tony raises his eyebrows. both your hands cover your mouth.
not wanting to deal with peter, tony addresses you instead. âi donât care how you do it, cover those up. donât let me see them ever again. understood?â you nod a good amount of times and reach for peterâs hand. heâs about to give it, then tony glares down at whatâs happening. peter pulls back immediatelty. âunderstood. weâll, um, do better next time,â you agree, tony winching at the idea of a next time.
âyou, parker... treat a lady with a little more respect, eh?â tony clicks his tongue at him. heâs referring to all the hickeys. peterâs lips form a line, a sarcastic one that says oh well. âi tried, mr. stark, but y/n wanted me to-â âchrist, thatâs enough.â tony furiously shakes his head and starts to walk away from you two. ânever again!â
youâre thanking god when he sets off for the living room, you hiding your face in peterâs chest, his face in your hair. âthat was terrible. that was the worst thing ever,â you say into him. âiâm sorry, baby. we gotta be more careful.â
itâs not over yet because then, the toaster dings. youâd completely forgotten about the waffles. you and peter both separate with your millionth shared look of terror. tony comes rushing back into the room, very familiar with that noise.
âfirst you destroy my daughter, now my toaster? pete... youâre in for it, kid.â

i cant believe you said you dont write for fandoms!! these are ending up AMAZING! have another fail date for you to make better: we went four-wheel driving over the dunes out bush, we took my car but he drove because he's done the route before. we were the second car in the convoy and because my car is a little smaller than the others it couldnt make it up the last dune! it nearly made it over before sliding back into the sand and ended up half buried! (1/2)
(2/2) the rest of the group had to drag and push us out with planks and chains etc while we were stuck inside because no way in hell i was opening the door to let the sand in! so three wheels in the sand, waiting on our rescue, irl it was a bit awkward but im hoping you'll rewrite a better ending <3
Awww concussed dragon, you are sooo sweet! Thank you! Your unique failed dates are great to work with. Alrighty, let's get into this one! So the pack got big in this one and while most don't have lines, I liked the idea of everyone being there (or almost for anyone I missed haha). I left some of the couple combos up to interpretation so feel free to ship at your leisure.
---
The pack, after much pestering from a certain human/spark, were finally going on their camping trip. The alpha had finally conceded when Stiles had shot him a pout and hopeful eyes. Derek had reluctantly agreed and ignored the snickering of his betas in the corner of the room.
On the morning of the trip, everyone was pairing up into groups of drivers and passengers so no one drove alone and there were less cars.
Derek and Stiles were the last members out of the rebuilt Hale House. Derek had been locking up and Stiles was finishing off some wards to ensure there were no unwanted visitors while they were away. He was still learning to harness his spark but small wards of protection were easy enough. Defensive magic was easier, offensive was another story.
Stiles threw his bag into the back of the jeep and glanced around.
"So, who's joining Roscoe and me?"
Erica snickered, "Derek."
"What?" Stiles and Derek snapped in unison. Well at least Stiles had a punctuation mark, Derek's not so much.
"I'm with Danny, Lydia and Jacks." Kira spoke up. "Scott, Malia, and Isaac are with Allison."
"I'm obviously with my boy." Erica jumped onto Boyd's back, who was used to his girlfriend's antics and easily caught her. "And Theo is meeting us there after picking up Liam from work. Everyone's paired up so that just leaves you two."
Stiles felt his heart flutter but managed to keep his voice even as he spoke, "Alright Alpha My Alpha, let's get going."
Derek didn't say a word as he slid into the passenger seat of the jeep. Everything would be fine.
Everything was not fine. Stiles was definitely going through a quarter life crisis at the realisation most of the pack were in couples. How did he not realise that? When had it become a prerequisite to start dating a pack member? And now it was just Stiles and the alpha. The alpha he had been in love with for years. Great...
"What's wrong?"
Stiles was pulled out of his internal panic by said alpha's soothing voice. Derek had softened over the years, showing care and concern for each member of the pack. He now bought scent-free nail polish for Erica (so the acid smell didn't upset all the were's noses), stocked Isaac's favourite gummybears and even hugged Kira willingly at her university graduation. Derek Hale was a softie.
"I'm fine, nothing wrong here, no sir." Stiles prattled. Even he heard the blatant lies without supernatural healing. He glanced to his side and was greeted by raised eyebrows.
"Ok, so I may have just realised how paired up everyone in the pack really is."
"Except us."
"Yeah," Stiles sighed. "Except us. Do you ever think about that? Like, why you haven't dated anyone since..." He trailed off. Derek didn't have the best track record for his love interests but he hadn't even been on a date for more than 3 years.
Derek looked out the window at the scenary, they were driving into the sand dune part of the journey, and for a moment Stiles thought he wasn't going to answer.
"I've been waiting."
Stiles blinked. Huh?
"For someone so smart, you're really clueless sometimes." Derek huffed, glancing back at Stiles.
"What have you been waiting for?" Stiles dared to ask. They had paused to allow Allison's four-wheel-drive to roll up the last sand dune, waiting for their turn. Roscoe would be the last time to make the climb.
"I thought it was my imagination at first but then you kept coming around and..."
It was Roscoe's turn now and Stiles slowly prepared for the final climb of the dune. He tried to keep focused on the task at hand, allowing Derek to speak his thoughts. You never rushed the alpha when he was being vulnerable.
"I know you kind of like me?" Derek voiced it as a question but all Stiles heard was sirens in his brain. Derek knew? Stiles' foot slid off the peddle and they immediately started rolling backwards, fast.
"Shit! Shit, shit shit." Stiles acted quickly but it wasn't enough. Roscoe descended the sand dune and sank, refusing to move. Sand on either side of them blocked the bottom of their doors. They were officially stuck.
Stiles rested his head on the steering wheel and slowed his breathing. There were multiple crises going on but most had solutions.
The others would work out they hadn't made the climb soon enough or Theo and Liam would find them on their way through. So either way, Roscoe being stuck wasn't a massive deal. The real dilemma was Stiles' outed feelings for Derek.
The same Derek that was eyeing Stiles with concern as he called Kira to request some assist. Stiles heard him hang up before the sound of a door handle being jiggled. He snapped his head up.
"Whoa there sourwolf, there is to be no sand storm in this car, thankyouverymuch." He reached out and tugged the alpha's hand away from the door.
"I figured me getting out and pushing was the preferred option to sitting here with you in a state of panic at my assumption."
Stiles pulled his hand back. "What?"
"Look, we can just forget I ever said anything, alright? I get I'm not the most desirable crush to have. It's probably just familiarity and your sense of loyalty that's fueled your scent around me anyway. Don't worry about it."
Stiles shook his head, "Oh no you don't. You opened that can of worms and I'm no coward." The spark met Derek's gaze. Had he been planning on ignoring his feelings for the alpha? Sure. But was he going to run away from a moment like this? Nope. Stiles Stilinski was a lot of things but after running with wolves and other supernaturals for most of his life, he knew when he needed to tackle something head on.
"Now, before you go down your rabbit hole of I'm-not-good-enough crazy talk, I've got something to say."
Derek nodded like the soft alpha he was and turned to face Stiles more fully.
"You, Derek Alexander Hale, are amazing. A little on the martyr side but that's because you are so protective of your pack. I'd be crazy to not fall in love with you. That's right, love not like. I've been in love with you for years but how was a kid like me going to catch the alpha's eye? I didn't want to ruin our friendship. This," He gestured between them. "This is important to me. I don't want to ruin it."
Derek released a sigh of relief? Stiles couldn't read his eyebrows which was disappointing when he was the most expert at interpreting the alpha's facial expressions.
Then Derek was darting forward and claiming Stiles' lips in a searing kiss. Stiles went with it, almost unbelieving that any of this was happening.
Derek eventually pulled back and rested his forehead against Stiles'.
"Worth the wait." The alpha whispered, grinning, bunny teeth all on display.
"Two way street here. You could've said something too. How long have you liked me?"
Derek blushed and it was only because they were so close that Stiles saw the pink of his cheeks and ears.
"I've always liked you, even if I didn't always show it. But love? I think I've loved you since you woke me up on an elevator floor by punching me. You could have left without me but you didn't."
Stiles pouted, "Since then?"
Derek raised an eyebrow, "What's wrong?"
Stiles pushed Derek back and clumsily crawled across the gear stick to straddle the alpha's lap.
"We could have been having the best sex of my life for years, Derek! Years! We've got a lot of making up to do." Stiles dove in to kiss Derek this time. The alpha happily drew Stiles in closer, curling his arms around the spark's slim waist.
A knock on the window, interrupted their make-out session. Boyd's face appeared with judging eyebrows to rival Derek's.
"Heard you needed a hand." Boyd spoke loudly with a smirk as Derek's hand moved away from Stiles' ass to rest safely on his back.
"What's Erica doing?" Stiles asked, leaning over Derek to squint at the blonde chatting wildly on the phone. Derek focused his hearing.
"Turns out I'm not the only one who was waiting." Derek grinned, "And everyone apparently owes Lydia money."
They did eventually get Roscoe out of the sand dune thanks to the advantages of going camping with multiple supernatural creatures. By the time everyone was settled in the camp and Erica had informed Theo and Liam on the events of the day, Lydia was a very rich woman.
Stiles couldn't complain though. Not when the alpha was snuggled between his legs as Stiles sat on the log and Derek roasted them marshmallows. Apparently no one trusted Stiles near an open flame following the incident with that vampire clan. Stiles combed his fingers through Derek's hair and looked around at the pack. This camping trip was the best idea ever.
--
Ok so I must confess I do not camp like...ever and have no idea how four-wheel-driving works so please forgive any major errors in that department. I tweaked things a bit from your prompt sorry. I just couldn't imagine Stiles letting anyone else drive Roscoe. Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for popping in!

Spectacular- mark lee
mark never intended on getting bit by a spider on his was home in the subway, he also never intended on saving you from falling in front of the moving train car either. it was all just some sort of sick coincidence. mark had never believed in super powers, yeah what he saw on TV and comics book was cool but it was never realistic. âsomeone just canât magically change over nightâ he thought to himself all the time.
that was, until it happened to him. after his little run in with you he went home and took a nap, shook up a bit on how well his grip on your jacket was, almost like his hands were stuck to you. âcrazy...â he chuckled drifting off to sleep. when he woke up his found his upper part of he bunk covered in spider webs.
âewâ he said quietly trying not to wake his roommate haechan up. âmaybe if hyuck would be a cleaner we wouldnât have this issueâ mark struggled to sit up something making him stick to his bed. he flopped all around his bed, webs confining his arms to the bed. he finally broke one and somehow tripped off of his bunk. he prepared for his body to hit the ground but something caught him. a string of webs wrapped around his ankle and attached the top bunk. he was confused, but he was mostly relieved. âmark?....â haechan opened his eyes wondering why he saw his roommate dangling from what seemed to be the ceiling. with that the web snapped causing mark to fall on his head.
âdude...â haechan observed mark like he was some foreign species. âdid you do that?â he pointed to the the webs covering marks bunk. ân-no!?!?â mark looked at the younger boy like he was out of his mind âdo i look like a spider to you?â haechan stared at him for a long minute. â...thereâs a fucking web growing out of your wrist right now....â
âHUH?â mark flung his hand somewhere, flinching in a way. haechan grunted loudly his head banging aganist the wall. his body was taped to the wall with one big web. âMARKâ he yelled in amazement and extreme pain and discomfort. âI promise i didnât do that....â mark didnât know what to do with his hands, he stuck them in the pockets of his shorts fearing himself and what heâd do. haechan eventually broke free, examining the web pattern closely. He had a thing for spiders.
âthis is completely unique...your webs have a little M in them. we should take to these y/n, you know shes a science freakâ mark completely shut down at the thought of you seeing him shoot webs out of hands. what if you thought he was some kind of freak? âTHATS NOT AN OPTIO-â then you walked into their dorm room, unannounced and unwarranted. âi heard my name from outside the hallway, why are you all so lââ you were confused to see that mark was no where to be found. âuhhh?? i thought i heard marks voiceâ
âyou diââ haechan did a double take âoh haha, yeah we were on the phone heâs in the bathroomâ he got stuck in the toiletâ
haechan shoved you out the room nervously. âyeah so y/n, weâll see you in class okay?â once you were successfully pushed out the room, mark was sitting with his legs crossed his head in his hands. âbro what the fuck was that?â haechan slammed the door and locked it. âwhat was what?â
âi donât know your little disappearing acâ YOU CAN TURN INVISIBLEâ
âhaechan are you on drugs? you have to be on drugs only people with POWERS can do that and thatâs not possible beââ
haechan clamped a hand over marks mouth.
âdude youâve done the impossible for like 2 hours now, you have powersâ the younger boy slid on his shoes and grabbed his jacket. âwhere are you going?â mark asked laying back down. âyou mean where are WE goingâ he threw marks slides at his head.
âweâre gonna go see what you can do.â
mark and haechan went out to a abandoned parking lot. haechan was good at making something out of nothing figuratively and quite literally. âokay mark pick up that big ass tire over thereâ mark walked over to it, absentmindedly picking it up âthis one?â
haechan pulled a clipboard out his backpack âokay superstrength...checkâ
after many trials and errors. mark and donghyuck found out that he was very agile, very fast, and very sticky. mark couldnât go 3 seconds with out sticking to something.
as mark and haechan were walking back to the dorms, mark heard something his ears turned up as he looked around. âdo you hear that?â mark pulled his hoodie up and walked a bit faster. âno what do you hear? is everything okaââ mark took off running in the opposite direction past the parking lot, leaving his backpack and a confused Lee Donghyuck behind him.
mark turned the corner the feeling that was rushing through his body, it was more than adrenaline it was like an itch that so desperately needed to be scratched. he had to find out what that noise was. he found himself in the subway again. the same place his was now 24 hours ago. his head was now spinning the same place he was bitten now stinging more than ever.
his balance was off and his body felt weak. mark blinked harshly, the itch slowly fading away. but everything was fading away he slipped into darkness, passing out on the grimy new york subway floor.
âmarkâ a familiar voice called out to him. âyes y/n?â he responded, a swirl of neon colors surrounded him, his skin was no longer slightly tan it was neon red with some swirls of blue. he was still in the subway but it was empty. dead silent his own thoughts, and spiders the only things in the station. you were in the form a beautiful pink tarantula crawling all over marks body.
âyou know what you have to do right?â
âwhat do i have to do?â
âsave new yorkâ you brushed against his cheek lovingly âsave our friends, save me, and most of allâ you had somehow reappeared in front of him crawling down from her own line of webs. âsave yourself.â
âhow do i do that?â
â22nd street my loveâ
mark heard that laugh he always loved to hear, then a sharp pain in his arm again.
âFUCKâ he yelled when he woke up, surprised to see that it wasnât the âpink tarantulaâ that hit him, but an IV going into the underside of his wrist.
âcalm down mr.lee itâs okay, you had quite a scare thereâ a nurse rubbed his forehead âanything i can get you? some water? some juice you had a pretty bad panic attack thereâ
mark sighed
âhow am i supposed to save new york with anxiety?â
âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸
âhyuckâ mark said as they walked home from the hospital. âyeah?â he responded taking one of his headphones out his ear. âhave you ever been to 22nd street?â haechan shrugged âyeah iâve been by there, itâs nothing but some apartments...why?â
âi think we have to go thereâ
that piqued haechan interest, not in a good way though. âyouâre not tired i mean...i know you have super stamina but you just had such a bad anxiety attack you passed outâ he blinked âi donât see how youâre not exhausted, fuckâ even IM exhaustedâ mark shrugged and walked in the other direction in hopes to catch a bus, âyou coming?â
âso am i like your agent or somethingâ haechan said smacking on the lunchable from his backpack loudly, so loud that mark couldnât even hear himself think. between the homeless people, the bucket drum line, haechan obnoxious chewing, mark couldnât hear himself think. âOKAY JUST SHUT UPâ he snapped, all attention on him. âohâ uh not you guys iââ mark quickly became flustered looking at haechan for some help. âOHâ uhhh, my friend here has a disorder. sorry about thatâ haechan rubbed mark on the back, watching as heads turned back to what the were doing. âthank godâ mark sighed in relief as they reached their stop. âi feel something...â the same ringing in his ears was back, becoming quieter as he walked in different directions dragging haechan in zigzags along with him
finally, mark and haechan arrived at their âdestinationâ. all it appeared to be was just a regular apartment building. âwhat the fuck?â mark huffed slamming his fists aganist the wall, accidentally triggering something.
the small alley way they were in between revealed a door, the two boys looked at each other in pure amazement as they jumped through. âwhat is this?â mark said in awe staring down the walls. âdonât touch anythingâ an older man said swatting his hand away âyouâre the new guy?â he looked mark up and down âthe standards must be in hellâ
âhi nice to meet you too!â mark sarcastically said. âi didnât ask.â the man simply replied. âfollow me though.â the boys did as they were told. âi believe that we were all put on this earth for one reason, to wreck havoc and help when havoc wrecks thingsâ the older man laughed at his own terrible joke. âthatâs why some people their genetic code is different, theyâre products of some very expensive experiments, and my favoriteâ he chuckled âwrong place right timeâ
âso where do i fall?â mark wondered out loud. âthe third one sweetheartâ the older man bent down into a mini fridge and got out something to drink. âso basically what iâm saying kid.â he slurped it loudly in marks ears âhelp when havoc wrecks, whenever it doesâwith the snap of fingers, haechan and mark were back home and mark was dressed in a red and blue spandax suit. a black spider embroidered on the chest. âbro? you lookââ mark raised a brow, thinking he was still in his regular clothes. âyou look like an actual superhero!â haechan danced around the room. âi do?â he stepped infront of the mirror âohâ I DOâ
âwhat should i call myself. tarantula boy?âno too weird spider boy? no too immatureâ
âspider-manâ haechan suggested
âspider-man...â mark said to himself in the mirror.
âi guess iâm spider man...â

I Should Sleep With You More Often (Sam x Reader)
Sequel to Works Like a Charm  where Sam and Reader finally get together. Itâs a very fluffy piece, with a little bit of late night breakfast making and a surprise kiss.Â
special thanks to @literaryhedgehogâ cause this wouldnât have happened without her.Â
Hello?â
âHey, I canât sleep.â Samâs voice comes over the phone, getting straight to the point with frustration.
âAnd youâre calling me about it? At 3 am. I could have been asleep you know.â You huff into the phone, pinning it between your chin and your shoulder.Â
âWere you?â She asks, and you can almost see her eyebrow quirking up.Â
You look down at the frying pan where you were about to pour your egg-cheese scramble. âNo. But still.â
âDonât worry, I appreciate the irony of the situation,â she says, with an attempt at humor. âcan I come over?â
âSure. You can split my omelet.â You hum, your tongue poking out as you make sure the entire omelet landed on the plate instead of the floor.Â
âOmelette?â Sam asked, sounding amused. âI thought you werenât supposed to --âÂ
âEat anything after 9 pm I know, I know. But I woke up and was hungry, and couldnât just ignore it to fall back asleep for two hours. I had to eat something or I was going to get nauseous.â You interrupted her, waving your hand dismissively.Â
âWhat?â Sam asked entirely confused.Â
âYou know that feeling, where youâre like, so hungry that you get kind of nauseous?â You tried to explain again.Â
âNoâŚâ She trailed off.Â
âOh, well itâs the worst. I like to try to eat something before it gets too bad because otherwise, the food wonât do anything. Anyway, I made enough you can have half of it, just let me know when you get here so I can send down the elevator for you.â You said, whipping your hands off and walking towards the door.Â
âIâm actually just parking,â Samâs voice came sheepishly over the phone. In the background, you heard the unmistakable sound of her car being locked. She always insisted on clicking the lock button twice so it would beep, like she didnât trust it to lock the first time.Â
You shook your head and left your apartment to buzz her into the building. âYouâre telling me that at 3 am, before even checking to see if I was awake, you just decided to come to my apartment because you couldnât sleep?â
âYes?âÂ
âYouâre insane,â you said, hanging up the phone as the elevator door opened to reveal her tall frame.Â
She ruffled the hair at the back of her neck, grinning. âI knew you would be awake?â
âBullshit.â You led the way back to your apartment and grabbed two plates from the cabinet. âYou want soy milk?â
âWhat?âÂ
âSoy milk. Iâve got vanilla or dark chocolate.â For some reason, soy milk helped reduce the insomnia nausea more than anything else most days. Still, the omelet smelled amazing.Â
âUm sure, vanilla please.â She shrugged, and you rolled your eyes. Vanilla was for the weak.Â
You pulled out both cartons and two glasses, before cutting the omelet in half and handing her a fork.Â
âDonât I get my own plate?â Sam whined, cutting off a piece of the Omelet and popping it into her mouth.Â
âPeople who come barging into my apartment at 3 AM have to share with the host. Unless you wanna do dishes?â You raised your eyebrow at her, pointing your fork in her direction, smirking when she emphatically shook her head no.Â
She quickly changed the subject, avoiding your eyes as she ate. âSo how are you liking your apartment, itâs new right?â
âYeah, I moved in four months ago, you know when I suddenly got traded to North Carolina,â you said, a very bitter edge in your voice. How Mark could let you leave the thorns you would never know, but at least Hinkle was retiring.Â
You took another bite âSo why couldnât you sleep? At camp, youâre usually snoring like a freight train by now.âÂ
Sam paused mid-bite, fork in the air. She looked like she was debating how to answer then, stuffed her last piece of omelet in her mouth. âI donb snowe.â
âYou totally do. Rose even sent me the video evidence if you wanna see it,â you smirked, standing to go get your phone.Â
âNo!â Sam jumped up and you sprinted across the kitchen to get out of her reach, grinning. âYou really donât have to do that, itâs not a big deal.â
âOh, but I really donât mind,â you taunted, starting for your phone before Sam tackled you. Well, it wasnât a tackle so much as a grab, but she had a good foot and a half on you, so same difference really.Â
âPut me down. This is highly unnecessary,â you sputtered, laughing from Samâs shoulder. âIâm not supposed to exercise within an hour of bed. My therapist would be unhappy with so much activity.â
âYeah cause eating an Omelette at 3 am is totally something she would approve,â Sam rolled her eyes, as she tossed you onto your couch.
âLies and slander. I wonât get the alleged snoring video, but seriously. Why are you here?â
Sam sighs, and slouches onto the couch next to you, dropping her head into your lap. You smile down at her, liking this new angle. While you certainly didnât mind being the baby of the team, it was kind of nice to do the petting for once.
âI donât know,â Sam said, furrowing her eyebrows.
âYou were never a good liar. Itâs why everyone catches you when you try to pull pranks. I hear it helps if you talk about it,â You murmured, using your thumb to smooth out the crease that formed between her eyes.Â
âFine, I couldnât sleep because I kept having nightmares. It felt like, I was tossing and turning for hours, and then every time I dozed off, my brain came up with these fucked up images. Like, silence of the lambs shit. I could sell some horror film director the plotlines and make bank, Iâm telling you. And since Rose and Wilma moved out, my place has felt so empty. It felt like, the panic attacks I used to have before games. When I had to always bring a bag with me to hyperventilate into before I could get my mind on the game.â
You frowned. âI donât remember that.â
âOnce you became my bus buddy I didnât have that problem. You got me out of my own head with fun word games and stupid jokes. Remember that time you gave me the sentence âThe quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog?â You kept grinning telling me to stop stressing out, it would be alright, to just guess a letter.âÂ
âBecause whatever you guessed would be right.â You hum smiling down at her.Â
 âYou couldnât take that shit-eating grin off your face, you jerk, but like, it helped me stop second-guessing myself. Sitting on the bus with you, Iâve never felt more calm going into a season. And so I just thought. Itâs dumb but I hoped coming here would help.â She shrugged.Â
âItâs not dumb Sammy. You help me sleep too. Why do you think all the vets insist I sit with you?â You said softly, leaning down to kiss her forehead.Â
âBecause you used to fall asleep literally everywhere and they hoped I could get across the aisle and catch you before you hit your head?â She giggled and you snapped her shoulder lightly.Â
âWow. Thanks.â You said in a monotone, âOr maybe itâs âcause youâre my favorite teddy bear.â
âIf anyone is the teddy itâs you. Youâre like half my size,â She giggled.Â
âYeah, yeah, whatever,â you muttered, playfully pushing her head off your lap. âCome on you giant.â
âWhere are you going?â She asked, allowing you to pull her to her feet.Â
âTo go grab you a toothbrush and a fresh pillowcase for the bed.â You said, your tugging getting a little more insistent. You really wanted to get to sleep tonight. You had been so good lately (ignoring the random omelet you cooked tonight).
âOh, um. I was hoping we could just watch television on your couch and I would fall asleep,â Sam rambled, eyes wide. âI mean, not that I mind, but I didnât want to like, invade on your--â
âJust come up to my room. Itâs no big deal, itâs large enough for both of us, and I honestly donât think that couch is even big enough to fit you. Besides, maybe it will help you sleep to be on a mattress actually purchased in this century.â
âHey, I like my mattress!â She grumbled indignantly, crossing her arms.Â
âYou flip it twice a month because it keeps forming an indention where youâve slept!â You said exasperated. That sleepover had been a terrible idea and you stood by that. At least your bed didnât spit out feathers when you turned over too fast.Â
âWell, I. um. No comment.â you hear her say as you go to take your turn in the bathroom.Â
When Sam gets back from brushing her teeth youâve done everything except turn out the lights. You look up from your side of the bed as she pauses in the doorway.Â
âIs this⌠Welcome to Night Vale?â
âIt helps me ignore my thoughts. Can you get the lights please?âÂ
You had to replay the podcast the next day after Sam left. You couldnât remember anything after âWednesday has been canceled due to a scheduling errorâ because within moments you were asleep.
*****
You thought that sleeping with Sam was only supposed to be a one-night thing, but it wasnât. One night turned into two, which turned into the two of you usually crashing at each other's places.Â
If you were being honest, it was the best sleep you had ever gotten. It was nice to have someone there to hold onto, to protect you from the bad dreams. The problem was that your feelings were edging past the line of friendship, and you had no idea what to do about it.Â
It started with a team party you both went to, where Sam offered to be the designated driver. After she dropped everyone else off, you told her she might as well stay the night at your place since it was already so late and she did. And you both slept great. And then you had your usual Saturday spa night the next night, and you were several shots in and it wouldnât have been responsible to drive home. And you both slept a solid seven hours.Â
Not that Sam was a magical cure to your insomnia. You still had nights where your brain was like a train running off the rails, unstoppable no matter how hard you tried. Yet, having her there helped. She made sure blue lights went off when they were supposed to, and your late-night breakfast-making was kept to a minimum. AND after the first few nights, you realized that she was amusingly clingy in her sleep. Which meant that occasionally if you woke up and tried to get out of bed, she would sleepily grab you and hold you in place murmuring about whatever was happening in her dream. Since you couldnât get up you had to just lay there, which normally might have been boring, but with her was amusing as you listened to her rambling state of consciousness.Â
You sighed, staring up at the ceiling. You really needed to get your shit together and just ask her out. But what if she said no, and you lost your cuddle buddy? That would suck royally, and if you lost your bus seat it might completely curse the USWNT.Â
âAlright, I can practically feel the steam coming out of your ears, spill,â Sam groaned, rolling over and throwing an arm around your waist.Â
âIsnât it weird?â
âWhat?â
âTime. Like someone decided that seconds were a thing and a certain number of seconds equaled a minute and there were a certain number of minutes in a day. Like someone just decided it was a thing, and everyone went along with it and now we all have to plan our lives around this arbitrary system. I wonder if that asshole realized that people would use it to put kids in detention and force them to cram so they could regurgitate facts in a specified amount of his made-up system. And like the Romans made a Calendar and the Mayans did one tooâŚâ Your rambling was cut off by Samsâs soft lips touching your own in a quick peck before she collapsed back into the pillow. âJust blame capitalism babe.â
You stared at her for a minute, shocked, before she bolted upright. âSHIT. Sorry, I just. I forgot to ask for consent. I just forgot--â
âI consent, yes, more of this please,â you said, leaning over to kiss her again. Your hands cupped her cheeks and her fingers tangled into the baby hairs at the back of your neck.Â
After a few minutes, Sam broke off the kiss, both of you breathing heavily. âUm, wow. You know, Iâm not sure this is helping you get to sleep, love.â
You smirk, biting your lip and straddling her hips before you lean in to kiss her again, slowly. âYouâre the one who said you needed to sleep with me more often.â

Your content on Kny is interesting, being a Kny fan I would like to share a cusiority. During the final battle did you notice that the Hashira were passive about the death of some? When Shinobu died only Tanjiro had a reaction because of how busy he was; Mitsuri didn't seem sad and when Iguro remembered who died in the middle of the final battle he didn't even mention her. What did you think? It would have been nice if Gotouge had shown us what the Hashira's thought when the others died
[cont.] I'm the anonymous person who asked you the question about the Hashira who fell in the fight, Tumblr makes people write very little. Apart from Tanjiro they seemed cold to me, even for Tokito; the only one affected was Himejima; when always Iguro mentioned him during the clash with Muzan it was like he was thinking normally. There wasn't time to mourn for the dead but I was expecting a slightly deeper reaction. Anyway for Shinobu yes there was Inosuke and Kanao but the pillars are important too
 Thank you for the Ask, time to get into it! This served as a good excuse to flip back through of a lot of the later volumes... or rather, a huge chunk of the series. Short Answer: I donât think Mitsuri knew about Shinobuâs death. Longer Answer: A walk-through of the Pillarsâ situations in the final showdown and a partial analysis of Kimetsu-style story pacing.Â
Disclaimer: I finished this around 2am. I chose to leave it rambling and unedited and typo-ridden. HAVE MY FEELS, IâM DISHING THEM.
(Disclaimer: This isnât meant to be a plug for my own fics, but since they are born out of my emotional experience of canon, mentions will make their way in. U fu fu.) First, absolutely yes on there being no time to mourn. From the moment the Ubuyashiki Mansion blows up in volume 16 to the actual end of the fighting in volume 23, that is one hell of a night; this final arc(s) had NO CHILL. Like, wow. Itâs been a long time since I followed another battle-driven manga, but that seems like a lot, especially for a relatively short series. And I was initially happy to dismiss all the lack of satisfying sadness as being due to the fact that they are in *PANIC MODE* and entirely focused on fighting, but that is also not necessarily the case; they do come off slightly cold. I want to touch a bit on what we want to see the characters mourn each other, but also why I think it works out a bit better that we didnât; from a purely narrative standpoint. LET THEM BE SAD: Parasocial Needs Science says we form bonds with fictional characters that affect our brains in very similar and impactful ways, so our feelings are legit when they get killed off. It affects us like a breakup or other goodbye and makes us crave closure. As for my own assumptions, we look for proxy characters in-universe to give those characters we love the attention we wish to; their sadness validates our sadness, watching them get emotional can be super cathartic, and a good mourning arc can provide satisfying closure. This is something we got with Rengoku, canonically loved by like, everyone. Hell, even the guy who killed him was sad. Just to rub salt into it, the most recent fanbook that includes a section about how the Pillars see each other, and it drives home that even if we never saw much or any canon interaction between him and any other given character, theyâre all like, âOh yeah, Rengoku, heâs a great guy.â And, heâs the only character we really get space to mourn, pacing-wise. First, because of when it happens in the plot, this gives the story time to show us each and everyone one of the Pillars hearing the news; it gives them times to process it (which Tokitou clearly needed), and most of us, it takes us in depth through how it affects Tanjirou, our main character whose emotions that we, the readers, are most in touch with. Rengoku got star treatment in the way he was mourned, and we readers get to lap that up. So then when we donât get that in-universe star mourning treatment, it does feel a bit jarring by comparison. Gotouge did say she was sorry to hurt everyone, but these are the conditions the little humans were up against all along and a point driven home again and again; even with power on par with demons through the attainment of a mark; even Pillars are just breakable humans who will never be able to regenerate like demons can, hence why their stakes are so much higher in every battle they go into. Furthermore, the Pillars are more ready for this than anyone else, they of all the characters would be the best at keeping their emotions in check in the heat of a battle. Which means they had to keep them in check for seven volumes of near constant battle, love it or hate it. KIMETSU LOGIC: The Writing Sins That Make This Manga What It Is I could go on and on and on and on about the writing sins this manga commits and how it shows that itâs Gotougeâs first time writing something of this length. In manga not all of it can be blamed on the author alone because the editors have a very significant influence, but yeah, this is not the most amazingly crafted story out there, by a long shot. Would I change any of it, though? Well, a few things, yes, of course, out of personal preference. But on the whole, no. Itâs the collective errors that stamp KnY with its style and make it what it is, and I find it as endearing as all the randomly super goofy art. Now, when it comes to the lack of Pillars reacting to new of each othersâ deaths, I wouldnât necessarily classify that itself as a fault, and if I were Gotougeâs editor, I probably would have encouraged her to keep it to a minimum too. After all, I would be considered with selling a new shot of tension with every weekâs installment to keep any readers from getting bored with the constant battle. And dang it, THAT TENSION WAS HIGH, those battles were remarkably emotional and tense through and through. The breaks in tension that we got were necessarily and not distracting, with the notable exception of Iguroâs past. That was clumsy placement. Iâll be honest, I didnât bond with Iguro as much as a character because he lost his earlier chances to be appealing to me, and by the time the chapter with his flashback came out, I DIDNâT CARE, I waited anxiously all week to see what was happening to Tanjiro and was invested enough to have an appetite for the additional Sumiyoshi and Yoriichi bits, but dang it, Snake Pillar was getting in the way of what my emotions were primed for at that point. But, such is the way of fickle weekly readers; with THAT MUCH tension going on, readers crave a little breather here and there with a look at who else might taking in a breather in a flashback. We got bits and pieces of that mostly through flashback, like Tamayoâs memories of conversation with Shinobu experienced in real time through Muzan, as well as in-real-time moments with the characters having very slight chances to catch their breath (no pun intended). But, how well those breaths worked depending on each character, and how the readersâ emotions were getting slammed week to week. Just like how I as a weekly reader (by that point) had no appetite for an Iguro flashback while eager to move forward, there likewise would have been limited appetite for mourning, and weâre stuck with who we got as proxy characters to react through. ACTION, REACTION: The Rhythm of Basic Writing Advice It has often been said that in writing, something should happen in a scene, and the next scene should be a reaction to it. In the next scene something new happens, and likewise, there is a reaction. We could also thing of this as stages within the same scene, like the part when the music changes or the moment the battle has ended but weâre still on the battlefield. In Rengokuâs case, we got one big happening, and then a whole lot of reaction drizzled through the story after that. In the Infinity Fortress case, we get a big happening with the Ubuyashiki Mansion blowing up and then--a big happening!--a big happening!--a big happening--! A--uh oh, thereâs a reactio---NEVERMIND, THINGS ARE STILL HAPPENING, GOTOUGE, PLEASE, THIS HURTS, OW, OW, HOW ARE YOU SO CRUEL, WE GET IT, THIS SITUATION IS AWFUL, PLEASE STOP HURTING THEM---
The reactions are there, scattered throughout. Theyâre short, but they sure make themselves count. While Tanjirou is our Empathy Personified hero, itâs natural that we get more of his reactions, but the lack of them in other characters is, I would say, a natural fault of having a huge cast to work with it. Once you start dragging too many other characters into the reactions, the actions have trouble moving forward, and with the level of seven volumes worth of tension itâs the actions that keep readers hooked and buying magazines. THEYâRE ONLY CORVIDS, OK: Now Weâre Actually Looking At Canon Details Now that all being said, although itâs easy to dismiss a lot of Kimetsu Logic as amateurish at first, on further reflection, the little worldbuilding logic does excuse itself for not plunging each of the characters into a period of reaction to actions happening elsewhere. Not all the birds had Yushiroâs papers. Not all birds were created equal. Itâs really hard to navigate that place. Ergo, communication was probably highly imperfect; not all the crows knew everything going on. We donât feel that as readers because weâre seeing Kiriya and his sisters get all the available communications. In Iguro and Mitsuriâs case in particular, I suspect that might not even had been Mitsuriâs crow (as that one has a distinct personality and accessory) giving her orders to gather where Muzan is. It was probably any old down-to-business crow working with the information it had as clearly as it could in the battle that was most difficult to physically navigate. If Mitsuriâs crow (named Urara in the most recent fanbook) had been there, I imagine sheâd have been having difficulty that whole time to even stay within a close range of that battle. Furthermore, a crow like that with a strong bond with Mitsuri might had also judged that telling her about Shinobuâs death was a dangerous distraction, and chosen to withhold information. The fanbook specifies that Iguroâs crow Yuuan was the one who told him about how Tokitou got a red blade (in fact, this is basically the only thing said of this crow besides its name and gender). To able to report in such detail that Iguro could analyze that Tokitou attained the red blade by the strength of his grip, that probably quite an accomplishment to have either witnessed that much, or to pass on crucial information that detailed and quickly. At that time, Iguro and Mitsuri were physically separated and she was distracted by the crow giving her orders to gather where Muzan was, so she might not even have overheard that Tokitou had died. As for Iguro, the second fanbook tells us that because Tokitou was young he had hoped he wouldnât die. There was no opportunity to mourn him, and they werenât close enough for that to throw him off much from battle, but on a Pillar to Pillar level, I think the amount of thought Iguro did dedicated to Tokitou showed a certain level of esteem for him and regret at this passing. What would have been nice? Maybe a little look over his shoulder to Mitsuri like âI hope she didnât hear that.â That would have revealed a tender side of Iguro in a very short use of panels. I want to come back to analyzing Mitsuriâs reaction later, so letâs keep focusing on the loss of Tokitou. Once he attained more of his sense of self back, it seems he preferred the company of Corp Members closed to him in age (if we go by his little flashbacks, which in true Kimetsu Logic, are things we didnât know about until they come up in flashbacks). Most of the Pillars werenât especially close with him, even if they did care about his wellbeing, as they seemed particular aware of how young he was. Sanemi probably had never interacted much with Tokitou until that battle, and *OKAY, HERE IT IS, THE UPCOMING FANFIC SELF-PLUG* one of the things I really liked working with in my post-canon fic is that thereâs a point at which thinking about Tokitou forces Sanemi to deal with all the trauma heâs buried from that battle. I figure it would hit him later; he had a good excuse of a distraction. Ugh. Man. My heart hurts again thinking of that chapter. Letâs also not forget, after Himejima showed his respects for Tokitou both quickly and sincerely, he couldnât allow Sanemi to deal with Genyaâs death until after everything was over. All the Pillars had to think like this. What would had been nice? I liked this reaction scene to two simultaneous and horrific deaths exactly as it was. Ow. Ahhhh. Owwwwww, itâs hurting again. This is catharsis exactly the way I like it. Letâs keep going with Himejima, the only one to have known to expect all this, and who stayed ready and likely hoped to bring down Muzan all by himself without any other sacrifices (welp, so much for that). Thereâs a scene in the novels that implies he had some idea that Shinobu wasnât intending to make it out of the upcoming battle(s) alive, and I imagine he felt the same regret and bitter acceptance in advance that he also felt with Ubuyashiki. If we heard the news about Shinobu like Tanjirou and Giyuu did, I imagine he was hurt but it wouldnât have been noticeable, and he probably would not be surprised even at how quickly it happened. What would had been nice? Anything. Just a âHow pitifulâ and some tears as he runs through the halls wouldaâ been great. So since Giyuu did hear it loud and clear with Tanjirou, I first want to point out that whether that was Tanjirouâs crow or not (might not had been, because his crow was busy with a letter delivery from Senjurou at the time too), that crow must had loved to shared details; maybe even details that were not necessary. Like, would telling the lower level Corp members everything really help? Wouldnât the loss of each Pillar make them lose their nerve? Was it because that crow was wearing one of Yushiroâs papers that it had to report extra detail for Ubuyashiki HQ? Whatever the case, Giyuu is initially shocked about Shinobu and then is like, âwhat is that paper the crow has? It sure is reporting things fast.â What would have been nice? ANYTHING MORE THAN ONE PANEL OF SHOCK. Come on, Giyuu, give the GiyuuShino shippers S O M E T H I N G. Granted, if Tanjirou had been killed in battle with Akaza, I believe Giyuu would have had an initial outburst of emotion, but then gotten himself under control real quick and stayed that way until it was safe to break down (which he did immediately later on, since the threat was gone--but he was just as soon picking up a sword and stabbing him, so again, Pillar-mode must come before experiencing emotions). I interpret canon as that even though Giyuu might had found it easily to address Shinobu in conversation due to frequency in how much they had conversed and the fact that she would usually talk to him first, he would never had considered himself especially close with her (since he never saw himself close with any of the Pillars). I feel their relationship had potential to grow closer if Giyuu had actually gone out of his way to communicate more with her, and he probably would had if they both survived, but at the time she died he probably still felt a distance, which is why it did him harder when Tanjirou--someone who Giyuu did actually get to a point of enjoying conversation with--was dead right in front of him. (Side not, oh man, OH MAN, being a weekly reader was so tough then. I still have so many emotions from that week. Oh man. Oof. Ouch.)
Of note, Giyuu had the best opportunity for reflection on a comradeâs death since he had enough recovery time once he woke up to build a fire and treat wounds, and Tanjirou took that chance to read a letter.Â
What would have been nice? AGAIN, GIYUU, ANYTHING, but after that battle I think he deserved to disassociate a bit. Also of note, I donât know that they had complete information either, because NO ONE (by âno oneâ I mean Tanjirou and Inosuke) seemed to hear anything about Zenitsu single-handedly killing Upper Moon Six and surviving it. What would had been nice: âGood for you, Zenitsu, I hope youâre okayâ or âSix? Again? Didnât we already do that? There was a third??â or âwell I got Upper Moon Two SO THEREâ or â..........are you sure?â or even way, way after all is said and done, off in epilogue times, âyou fought WHO by YOURSELF???â but I digress. Now back to Shinobu, losing her so early on in this marathon of high-stakes battles made her death seem forever ago by the time we got to another Pillar death. It would had been nice for more of them to react both with âno, not Shinobu!â and âwe are in deep troubleâ sort of ways. That made the glimpses we got of her in flashback feel way, way more nostalgic, since for our experiences as readers, she had already been gone a very long time. I like that the battle with Douma got stretched over so long a span of the manga, they really showed the stakes in how difficult of a foe he was, even if that battle was itself was relatively shorter than others. And as stand-ins for the readers to mourn Shinobu, I love how we got that both through Kanao and through Inosuke. But yes, it sure would had been nice to get something from... Mitsuri. Now, if I had only read the events of canon, manga chapter to manga chapter, and even the Taisho Secrets, I still never would have guessed that Shinobu and Mitsuri had such a warm friendship. I know this purely from the fanbooks and novels, and that is something I find a writing error that detracts a lot from the work. Some of the most apt criticism Iâve heard of the Kimetsu pacing is that it could have stood to give us one of more arc to bond with the characters at least a little more, so we could really, really be emotional over loosing them. We get all our spare Pillar interactions in works outside of canon and after Tanjirou initially gets to know Shinobu, he has no more on-screen interactions with her; she mostly appears in Taisho Secrets. Pillar Training was fun and all, but maybe another arc with stakes in it that occurs closer to home and brings out some different sides of the Pillars in Tanjirouâs presence, instead of each of them getting one dance each with our protagonist. That would had been a chance to show Shinobu and Mitsuriâs friendship, in which case, we would had really, really wanted to see Mitsuriâs reaction. But, Mitsuri had a job to do in the very, very, very heavy tension and battles that ran in weekly magazines for months on end. She carried the very heavy weight of needing to provide brevity. Her silliness contrasted against all that tension was fresh air for readers who had been holding their breath (no pun intended! kinda) through so much. And man, our reliance on her for that made it hurt all the more when things suddenly got very serious for her. But, that means she was also unable to play a heavy emotional role too early on. There wasnât room to give her a satisfyingly emotional reaction to Shinobu or Tokitou; when after all, this is the girl who was fretting about dearly beloved Oyakata-sama, was horrified to see the explosion, angirly attacked Muzan, but was saved from certain doom almost immediately after she was taken by surprise in the Infinity Fortress, and then sheâs BACK TO 100% FANGIRL MODE. Like, giiiiiiiiiirl, Oyakata-sama just diiiiiiied, tone it down a notch. I feel like I had more to say. OH YEAH. WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?: To fanfic, duh. Going back to reaction and action and producing something with sellable pacing, again, I wouldnât risk bogging down the tension-heavy final arc with too much open sadness (less is more definitely applies when the reaction scenes were often SO GOOD), but it clearly set up the desire for it. And, the length and intensity with which a work of fiction can live rent-free in audiencesâ minds is a measure of its success. If we MUST turn to fanfiction to get that emotional closure (or force the Pillars to get theirs), then this is proof of a job well done in making us care.  Herein lies the freedom with fanfiction: It doesnât have to be good. It doesnât have to sell. It doesnât have to fit a regular serialized format. Fanfic is whatever it wants, all it has to do is indulgently scratch an itch. I have way more stomach for sappiness in fanfic than in original canon, because I have higher expectations of canon to honor writing conventions, and to make decisions that will serve the overall story, not necessarily cater to my tastes. But fanfic? Fanfic, you are here to serve me. Dive into those charactersâ dry eyes with a jackhammer and gives me their tears. I donât care how much you have to fry their brains to do it, give it to me. I mean, I donât write fanfic like that, noooo. At least, not that I post publicly. Ssh. No one needs to know aaaaaall my particular canon itches I wish to have picked raw. But all the more power to people who DO post that publicly and provide a great service to all the other people with that same need. But, in the spirit of writing fic that tries to honor the spirit of canon, I try to sprinkle the juicy emotional potential canon could have had around as needed, to draw out what I feel canon just didnât have the opportunity to give us. Itâs ultimately self-servicing for what I wish canon would had done, but my style of published fic does try to stay widely appealing as a gen fic. Everybodyâs got their own balances and tastes, and thatâs cool. And that is freedom canon authors donât have. Iâll conclude by saying that, although we as readers collectively earned it, the ending of Kimetsu no Yaiba was too bright and happy and specifically chose bittersweet moments that would be easy to swallow (pretty smart for a quick ending), but entirely skipped all the really heavy stuff in the immediate aftermath.
And yes, as difficult (and even dull) as it would be to slog through, thereâs a part of me that wants to see all that, for the sake of closure.Â
And now I sleep byyyyezzzzzzzzz

The Words of Doom
Type: (mini)-series, college AU, professor AU (technically)
Pairing: Steve Rogers x reader  Word count: 1880
Summary for the series: You messed up. Your very sleep-deprived Self attached the wrong document when emailing a professor and sent him one of the stories you wrote instead of an assignment. It should be embarrassing, really, but it wasnât. It was worse.
Why did it have to be the smutty one? Why did it have to be the one starring his best friend, Professor Rogers? You were so screwed.
Aka the âyou sent the wrong attachment to hot professor A that just happens to be about his friend hot professor B and now professor A is not able to look at professor B without wheezing in laughter anymore and you are unable to look at either of themâ AU
Warnings: swearing, literally one mention of a possible daddy kink, double entendre
âą-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-⌠â âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-â°
Your eyes felt like on fire, burning hotter than the sun above Sahara Desert; the metaphor your sleep-deprived mind came up with was only perfected by the huge dunes of the bags under your eyes.
You were running on disgustingly strong coffee and three energy drinks, but you summoned the rest of your strength and clicked on âsendâ, slumping so heavily into your chair that when your back hit the backrest, it almost toppled overâbut never mind, you made it!
Penny, your gracious roommate, would inform you that had you started earlier and were writing the actual essay instead of wasting words on steamy stories that somehow filled the desired wordcount with considerably less effort, you wouldnât have been turning into a zombie sending assignments several minutes before eight a.m., the actual deadline.
Yeah, well, sue me, I prefer romance to the World War II., no matter how important history is.
You were certain Professor Barnes would understand if you told him that anyway â he was a pretty easy-going guy for a scholar after all. Then again, you sure as hell didnât want to test the theory out and so you tended to hand in your homework perhaps âminute to midnightâ, but still in time.
You grinned as you checked the sent e-mail, proudly reading it had been sent at 7:56. You mentally patted your back, not having the energy to actually move to do that.
And then your Sahara-dry eyeballs fell lower on the screen and you let out a shriek of horror.
Your heart stopped in your chest before kicking in faster than it had been pumping after three Red Bulls.
The attachment.
Oh no.
OH FUCK, the attachment!
Now, it happened on occasion that people forgot to attach the files they spoke of in an e-mail, right? Sometimes shit like that happened.
But this⌠this was so, so much worse.
âOh no,â you uttered under your breath, shooting up and suddenly sitting with back straight as a ruler just to look at the screen from shorter distance to-- nope, still there. âOh fuck.â
You quickly scrambled to send another e-mail with similar text but the right file, along with a swift apology.
Sent 7:59.
You should be relieved. Perhaps Professor Barnes would notice the correct one first and automatically deleted the one that obviously must have been wrong.
So why couldnât you find it in you to think you would have such luck?
At least if he opened the wrong document, he would understand very quickly that it was not what he had asked the students to do and would delete it before diving in fully, right?
But a worm of doubt â or intuition, whatever you wanted to call it â told you that it wouldnât be the case.
You covered your mouth with your palms and screamed at the top of your lungs.
Penny, sleep-deprived considerably less than you because she was an actual responsible human being, walked from her room to the bathroom and blatantly ignored you, probably thinking you had missed the deadline by a minute and were now freaking out.
Oh, you wished.
âPennyyyyyyyyy!â you cried out in a whiny tone, but she clicked the door shut as if nothing was happening. As if your whole life wasnât in shambles because of one single e-mail. âPenelope, you get your ass back here! I need to know how to switch schools without having to repeat a year!â
Her wild black curls peeked from the bathroom, followed by an annoyed sleep-raspy voice. âWhy? You accidently called Barnes a daddy in your message or somethinâ?â
Your heart was still beating its way out of your chest, a low ominous hum in your ears. Gods above, you wished. Still would be easier to explain, like⌠you could claim it was a dare or something.
No, this was much, much worse.
Penny, apparently taken aback by the lack of your response, left the safety of the bathroom and approached your lair (probably stinking of sugary drinks and caffeine) and peeked over your shoulder, searching an explanation for your antics.
You only gulped, moved the cursor to the title of the document you had sent in your first e-mail and closed your eyes, actually feeling tears of humiliation stinging in them.
The silence that followed spoke volumes until-
âOH SHIT.â
You had just shared your smutty one-shot with your history professor, but that wasnât even the worst part. The worst part was that it was starring his rumoured one and only best friend he shared an office with. One who had acted like a substitute for two weeks when Professor Barnes got a particularly bad case of cold, but wouldnât leave you without a lecture. Needless to say, Professor Rogers had also starred several of your steamy dreams after that and became a source of inspiration for your occasional writing streaks.
And now your history professor could read all about it and, god forbid, share it with the man who was the template of the main character of the story. You werenât dumb; you alternated the names, just in case of you didnât even know what (and it might have made you feel better about writing filthy stuff about a prof), but you went with the same looks including hair and skin colour, hairstyle, Rogersâ glorious beard and you certainly didnât omit his surprisingly ripped body.
So, yeah. Pennyâs âOH SHITâ was pretty accurate.
You were so screwed.
Yes, once again, you wished.
âą-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-⌠â âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-âŚ-â°
You had handed in your work on Friday morning and had been jittery all weekend, practically unable to focus on any of the studying you desperately needed to do. Normally, you might write some comforting piece to relieve your frustration, but that was not an option right now as simply opening a text editor gave you palpitations.
The all-nighter you had pulled didnât exactly help your already non-existent ability to get your head on straight either.
You were looking forward to Monday and dreaded it at the same time â Professor Barnes was to give your assignments back with a mark and commentary. You were praying for Monday to come already, because you just needed to know the consequences of your actions. You were freaking out about Monday for very obvious reasons.
You had no idea what was happening in your first Monday class. Your lunch consisted of half bottle of coke.
And now here you were, seated in the second row of three, because that seemed like the safest place, a seat where Barnes couldnât approach you from any angle.
When he entered the class, you decided to stubbornly watch the desk in front of you. Under any circumstances, you would not make eye-contact, wouldnât raise your gaze. There was no fucking way anything would force you look his in the eye.
Or you thought so.
You hadnât realized he would call out each of your names and would say the necessary commentary about doing well, missing something, excellent work, this one feeling a bit sloppy⌠out loud, which would made it truly impolite to keep staring ahead. With each work sent through the sea of people to hand it to those in the second row, your stomach was turning heavier, your heart beating faster.
And then Professor Barnes said your name and you winced in your seat, squeezing your eyes shut on instinct, the childish if I canât see you, you canât see me either kicking in.
He called out your name again as if there was a chance you missed it the first time and with a huge lump of panic in your throat, you blinked your eyes open and raised your gaze, only to meet his neutral face with just the tinniest twitch to the corners of his lips and a barely visible twinkle to his eye.
Your stomach dropped to the floor, your face burning with embarrassment and humiliation.
He held out the papers to the person in the first row in front of you, whose name you didnât care for at the moment, and nodded his head.
âNot bad at all,â he said and that was the end of it.
Your essay landed in front of you and you finally breathed in properly, your hand trembling slightly as you noticed the circled B+ in the corner.
You were deaf to his next words, your heart jumping as you read the note by the mark.
B for the clichĂŠ used, + for the originality.
Huh. What a strange way to word an evaluation⌠but hey, you wouldnât complain. For one, no one had filled a harassment complaint for your stupid ass so far and you had written this shit during an all-nighter and still got B+. This was the best outcome you could hope for; Barnes didnât even give you shit about your... error.
A smile slowly found a way to your lips, a shy little thing, but definitely present, your mimic muscles, so stiff from trying to keep a poker face, relaxing.
You browsed over the other notes in red ink scattered over the pages, some sentences and phrases unlined and commented on, sometimes corrected, sometimes complimented to.
It wasnât until you reached the red note that had one word from it actually crossed out and replaced.
Really hits the spot mark.
Your smile froze on your lips, your heart ceased to beat before kicking in with furious pace, loud pounding humming in your temples.
Oh god. Oh no.
Hitting a spot? He could have written it was âspot onâ or that it âhit the markâ⌠he made the mistake deliberately, you were certain of it â all of his other notes were so neat and thought through-
You checked the individual notes, your stomach twisting when you re-read them in a new light.
Nearly all the wording he had used was referencing to your⌠special assignment you had handed in.
Oh god, please, let the lightning hit me. Let the floor swallow me. Let the cardiac arrest momentarily trying to kill me actually kill me.
Interesting work for certain with a winky face?! Really? That would be innocent enough on its own, but it was feeling like a conspiratorial wink. The I know more than I let on and you know what Iâm talking about wink.
The next one was a blatant double-entendre and you could bang your head against your desk for not realizing it first time reading it. Good writing, nice flow, clearly heading to the climax.
Your face was set aflame once more and despite your better judgement, you glanced at the professor momentarily showing whatever in his presentation.
He caught your gaze and had the audacity to wink.
You snapped your head away and silently whined, sliding down your chair nearly enough to lie on the floor.
OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD.
Why did it have to be the smutty one you sent? Why couldnât it be a cute one at least? You had loads of those! Why did it have to be the one about Steven damn Rogers, his friend?
Why, just WHY?!
Professor Barnes had definitely read it. And for some reason, you had a hunch that he had showed it to his friend slash colleague he shared an office with too.
You whined some more and pretended that this day was the apocalypse and that you would never have to face either of the professors ever again.
Of course, you could not have such luck.

There it is! Shorter chapter for starters. Just you wait ;)
Iâm pretty sure something like this have been written before, but plot bunnies are little shits that refuse to leave no matter how much you kick them and beg them to go away.
I blame @pies-writes-and-more @kayteewritessteve and @queen-kass-the-writer for supporting bad behaviour, but they are not the only ones. You know who you are, donât YOU? I am a weak human being and you are corrupting me. Thanks, sweeties ;)
Thank you for reading!Â

The Artist (Din Djarin x gn!Reader)
Word Count: 3821
Warnings: Fluffy with some angst and an angry Din. Heâs a bit mean at first but I promise he makes it right. Not beta read because I wanted to get this out asap.Â
Pairing: Din Djarin x Gender Neutral Reader
a/n: I couldnât resist writing, it was just such a sweet idea. I ended up getting carried away, so itâs kind of long lol. As per usual I got some angsty din in here but itâs all fluffy and happy at the end I promise!! Also, Din is a bit mean at first, heâs a grumpy grump whoâs mad about his face being plastered everywhere, but he turns into a softy fairly quickly. I tried to stay gender neutral but I may have slipped up sooo yeah. Enjoy!
Original Post: The original post is here and the lovely darling who came up with this idea was @mandowhorianâ
Edits:Â (4)**Reader blushing was removed to made to be more inclusive** (1)Just some grammar and spelling edits done. Also fixed up some of the paragraphs I felt were a bit weird. (2)Â I was looking back at this so I could post it to AO3 and noticed that the @ to the original poster of the idea was wrong, sorry for any unnecessary notifications!! (3)More spelling and grammar fixes, also fixed a pronoun error. ^-^
  The bounty should have been simple enough. The mandalorian had been tasked with bringing in a lone artist from the outer rim. The artist was overdue on some payments to a lone shark and had seemingly gone into hiding to avoid these payments. Originally, he hadnât planned on taking the job, but the pay was decent enough and it should have been rather easy. It wouldnât take much to bring in the little artist, though he had been warned about them having some weird abilities.Â
  Din wasnât too concerned in that regard. Heâs seen some weird stuff in his time as a bounty hunter. Honestly he wasnât sure anything could top the child and his strange powers anyway. Although with that in mind, nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to walk into. Â
 The bounty hunter had approached the structure quietly, it was later in the evening and much of the busy crowds were leaving for the night. The studio was small with tables propped out front, most likely used for sales, though today they had remained empty. He had asked some locals about the artist, learning how the artist was currently grieving and wasnât offering or selling any services at the moment due to it. Many of the locals even saying that they hadnât even seen the artist emerge from their studio for some days now. Â
  Din had ended up watching the little studio for most of the day anyway, looking for signs of the bounty. Truth to the locals words, the bounty never emerged to sell their works. So, with the streets having become empty and with no signs of the artist, he made his way to the entrance of the building.Â
 Pulling back the cloth to the entrance of the bounties private studio, Din was met with something he had never expected to see within. His face. Specifically, his face plastered everywhere on canvases around the studio.Â
Din had stumbled back in shock at what he saw, knocking over some paint cans as he did. He felt frozen in time standing there staring at the works of art and suddenly felt himself become overwhelmed with a multitude of emotions.Â
  Managing to collect himself, he straightened and slowly walked through the room, taking in each painting he saw. Every painting was unique in some way, whether it be from the paint used or the style in which it took. Some were younger versions of himself while others reflected his current aging features. His fingers had trailed lightly across the surface of one painting in particular, a dark and gloomy piece hidden away in a corner. Similar to the others, it was of his face, but this time it was bloody and bruised. His portrait self almost looking to be on the brink of death.Â
 Din had a feeling of when this painting had been painted and why it was done in the way that it was. How did they know what he looked like that day? Did they see? He wasnât even aware of anyone else, other than the droid of course, being there. How did he not notice them?Â
  Many thoughts and feelings were pouring through him while looking at the piece of art. Feelings of confusion, anger, and distress had soon consumed him, but the worst of it all had to be the feeling of fear.Â
Fear because someone had seen his face. Fear because this meant his creed was crumbling to ashes before his eyes. Fear because it was possible that it may have been like that for longer than he ever knew. Fear because in this moment everything he had worked for was crashing down around him and he wasnât even exactly sure how it happened.Â
 Engrossed with his worries, the Mandalorian didnât even hear the artist approaching. Coming through a back hallway, the artist had suddenly appeared from around a corner, stopping when their eyes landed on his form. They looked at him from afar, watching him take in the painting before him. Not even aware of the distress that currently wrecked the Mandalorianâs body and mind. Their own head tilting to the side as confusion began marking their own soft features, and wondering why a Mandalorian of all things had stumbled into their studio.Â
âCan I help you there? Customers arenât supposed to enter the studio and Iâm not currently taking any orders.âÂ
  Hearing them speak had snapped him out of his confused daze and he slowly turned his head to stare at them silently. He knew instantly based off the description from the client that this was his bounty standing before him. The Mandalorianâs mind soon beginning work over time to try and comprehend exactly what his target was doing. His mind trying to work out the answers to his bundles of questions.Â
 Were they trying to mock him? Trying to act as if they had no idea who he was or what they had done? This had to be a plot that they came up with. They must have known he was coming and had plotted how to distract him. Maybe they just wanted to taunt him? A sort of âfuck you I know your face and have ruined your lifeâ kind of taunt.Â
âYouâre a mandalorian right? Are you after a bounty-âÂ
  Din was swift and predatory in his movements, not giving them time to finish their sentence as he grabbed and pinned them to the ground. Their tiny wrists held in his one hand, pinned above their head, while he roughly shoved a blaster to their cheek. His body had soon pressed into theirs as a way to use his size and weight to keep them still underneath him. He radiated danger and had waves of anger rolling off of him. The sight of him in this angry state certainly would have had any number of people running, included the artist if they werenât currently pinned underneath him.Â
  The artist had squirmed under him in panic, attempting to free themselves, but not being able to due to his sheer strength. He could feel the heat from their body seep through his armor into his own, and any other time being this close to someone would have made the Mandalorian flush. However, at this moment, Din wasnât concerned about such things. He was more worried about the fact that the person underneath him knew his face.Â
âWhatâs with all the paintings? How do you know?â He growled out, his grip tightening around them, his helmet now inches from their own face.Â
  A whimper sounded from the artist below him and tears had begun to form at the corners of their eyes, âI-I donât know what you mean.â Their voice was shaky and their form trembled under his. They were utterly powerless and weak when compared to the Mandalorian.Â
 He scoffed at their response, it wouldnât be the first time a bounty had tried to play innocent and dumb. Shedding some fake tears wasnât going to soften him up any bit. âDonât act dumb. How did you find out? Where did you see it?âÂ
âFind out what? I-â They paused as he had moved the blaster closer to them as they spoke. âI-I really donât know what you mean!âÂ
  Admittedly, the job was far from his mind at this moment, all he cared about was dealing with the fact that someone had seen his face. That this person before him had decided to taunt him with the knowledge of them having seen it. Job be damned, it felt like his whole self was destroyed, his creed most likely broken. He could care less about the dumb bounty job. He just needed answers.Â
  Din growled again, his anger continuing to grow as they proceeded to deny any knowledge of what he was asking. He ended up hulling them to their feet, his grip never loosening as he did. He turned them around to face the corner which held the painting he had looked at not too long ago. He had pressed himself into their back when he did, a hand coming to roughly grab their chin to force them to look at the painting before them, the blaster still at the ready if needed.
âThat face.â He gritted out, his fingers beginning to dig into their skin, âWhere did you see it?â
  He watched as their fearful expression morphed into that of one marked with sadness. A frown had now etched across their lips, and they looked away as a few of their tears finally slid down their cheeks.Â
Din was surprised by their reaction, he thought for sure they would have given up the whole innocent act by now or would have at least slipped up a bit. However, they didnât and if anything it only made them seem to be more genuine in his eyesâa thought that both angered and confused him more than anything.Â
 Mumbled words was the only reply he got from them at first, their voice barely audible to him, âWhat was that?âÂ
âHeâs my soulmate... or he was supposed to be at least.âÂ
  Din could feel himself pale under the helmet at their words, a feeling of shock once again spreading throughout his body, as he found himself letting go of them in an instant. His anger had disappeared completely at hearing their explanationâleaving only confusion in its wake.
 It crossed his mind briefly that they could be messing with him still, but the expression they wore and the sincerity in their voice had stomped the idea completely. They were being serious, and Din had no idea how to handle such information.Â
Stepping back from them, the blaster fell to his side. âI.. what?â were the only things he could manage to say in his stage of shock and confusion.Â
âDo you know what the force is?âÂ
âBarely.âÂ
âWell, through the force, I get force visions of him all the time. Theyâre usually just his face, his surroundings were always blurry to me, but his face was always clear.â They began to explain as Din listened while remaining silent, âThe force is not strong with me, so I think thatâs why the visions were not always so clear to me.âÂ
âSo this isnât just some sort of sick joke of yours to try and mock me?â He asked, still having some trouble in believing what the artist was expressing to him. âYouâre not lying just to try and get me to not take you in?â
 He watched as anger had marked their once saddened features, âA joke? You think I would joke about something like this? That I would spend years of my life painting and wondering where he wasâwondering if he was safe?âÂ
  Din stood and just listened as they went off on him. Their anger about the accusation evident as they bitterly ranted to him about his behaviour during the past half hour or so. He continued watching as their rant died down to them just fuming while looking at anything that wasnât himâclearly upset and hurt by his remarks.Â
âIf youâre here to collect me for a bounty just get it over with, donât deepen my grief.â Sometimes he could forget how insensitive he could be. It was already clear enough to not have been some joke or plot. So why did he have to continue suggesting such things?Â
 The room had filled with silence after the artist had finished their long winded speech to him, and it felt stuffy with the new atmosphere between them. âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to...â His voice was the first to break the silence before he had trailed off again, âWhat made you think the visions were of your soulmate?â
 They had seemed to calm again with his question, a sigh escaping their lips as they went to continue their explanation from before to the Mandalorian, âHonestly? I didnât think such a thing at first, but eventually, I could just feel it.â They paused, seemingly trying to figure out how to word their thoughts before speaking once more, âI guess you could say I just knew that this was the man I was connected to for life. I could feel it in my heartâin my soul. He was the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with, or at least I thought so until the last oneâŚ.â
 The artist trailed off again, a habit of theirs that Din had noted to himself as he watched them go over to look at the painting properly. Their arms had crossed over their chest now, hugging themselves as if they were cold, but it seemed to be more for personal comfort than anything. Din had took note the expression they wore on their face and suddenly felt a rush of guilt flow through him for how he had previously handled them.
âThe last one?â He couldnât help but question.Â
 They nodded and smiled sadly at him as they wiped the tears falling from their eyes âI think I saw him die some months ago. The last vision I had of him was of him looking like that and I havenât had any visions since.â They had motioned in the direction of the painting before them, only providing more evidence that it was in fact a painting of the face he had wore while on the brink of death that fateful day.Â
âSo I think he...â their words died in a quiet sob, one of their hands clasping over their mouth as he watched their figure become consumed with grief.Â
The words from the locals of the artist grieving came back to him as everything began to fall into place. This person was grieving who they believed to be their soulmate. They were grieving Din and they hadnât even met him. It was something difficult for him to fathom at first, but seeing how it broke them had made his heart sink none the least.Â
âHeâs not dead.â The words left him before he could stop himself. The urge to suddenly comfort the distressed artist before him coming to light.Â
 The artist turned to look at him suddenly, almost doing a double take from his words âWait do you know who he is?â They questioned, their expression changing from one of sadness to wonder. âWhatâs his name? Is he ok? Can you take me to see him? Iâll pay youâŚâÂ
Their voice stopped registering in the hunters mind as he tried to comprehend their questions and excitement. They werenât lying. They were being truthful in everything they spoke and they had no clue that the face in the paintings were his. They truly didnât know anything about him other than what they had seen in their visions and yet they loved him enough to grieve for him.Â
  Din didnât know how to answer all those questions of theirs. It was him. The answer was simple yet also hard to articulate. The man in their paintings, in their visions, was him.Â
That was his face. His face which no one was supposed to see. He almost wanted to yell out that it was him. He wanted to scream to them about the creed and how it was everything to him.Â
 The creed he swore might be in question now and he didnât know how to feel about it other than dread. He understood how some circumstances were accepted in regards to others seeing his face. Did a soulmate having visions fall within those categories? He didnât know, but really hoped so at this moment.Â
  âItâs me.â The words finally wafted out his modulator in a whisper, barely audible, but the artist had clearly caught it.Â
The artist had stared at him with shining wide eyes. A hand had come to their mouth again but this time in surprise. Not being able to bear looking at them anymore, the Mandalorian turned away again. as his heart began beating rapidly in his chest at the confession. âItâs my face. Itâs me.âÂ
Their reply was equally as quiet, a mere whisper through the air, âR-Really? Youâre not lying?â
 The only response he could muster was a small nod, as he was afraid of how his voice would sound. There were so many things to discuss with them. Things like his way of life and the danger it entailed. He also needed to tell them about the creed, and most importantly, the child in his current care. All of this didnât even include the things he was sure they had to tell him.Â
 Din had jumped at the sudden feeling of their body pressing into his back. His mind blanking at their touch and smell engulfing him. The feeling of them wrapping their arms around his waist had caused a flush to spread over his skin and a shaky breath to barely sound through his modulator. It had been so long since someone had touched him in the slightest and he wasnât prepared for it to happen like it just had.
 âI was beginning to think Iâd never meet you, I mean, I literally thought you died.â Their words were muffled into his armored back and hearing them he felt his heart clench again.
  Seeming to catch themselves, the artist pulled away from him, shyly looking away at the realization of their impulsive actions. âI-Iâm sorry I didnât mean to hug you out of the blue like that.â They had managed to stutter out, âItâs felt like Iâve known you forever even though weâve really just met and I literally thought I had lost you. So I guess Iâm just happy.âÂ
âItâs fineâ He replied quietly, feeling his heart skip a beat at seeing the small smile that graced their cheeks from his words. âIt should be me saying sorry for how I treated you earlier anyway.â He continued, turning to face them properly and looking down at their wrists he had grabbed so harshly not too long ago.
âI mean you're a mandalorian right? Your kind donât show your faces to anyone, Iâm sure it was quite a shock to see all the paintings.âÂ
  He was surprised with them having some sort of knowledge of his way of life. Even if it was so little, any amount was better than none. âYou know of mandalore?â
The artist shrugged, looking down at their hands as they twirled their fingers. âOnly a little of what I have heard. People say you're the fiercest warriors in the Galaxy.âÂ
  He nodded in reply to them as they fell into an awkward silence once more. Honestly, Din had never talked much in the first place and he had already talked more than what he was used to within the last hour. He also wasnât really sure where to start.Â
 What did they do now? Did he invite them back to the ship? Ask for them to pack up and move in? Maybe they should just call it a night and worry about it in the morning. It was late after all, and of course the child still waited for him to return. Â
âAre you going to turn me in? Thatâs why youâre here right? Iâm your bounty.â The artist was still smiling at him even after such inquiries, âI wonât stop you if you want to. Just knowing youâre ok is enough for me. I donât want to get in the way of your job.â Â
Sweet. Too sweet. Maybe even naive. That was how Din would describe them in this moment. He believed them too in their claims, that they would happily let him take them to their impending doom at the hands of some scummy lone-shark.Â
Din was honestly surprised to see how easily they just offered themselves up to him. How easy would it be to just take them up on their offer and turn them in. After turning them in, he could then just shove the whole experience into the back of his mind to be forgotten. It would be a simple and easy process for someone of his kind.
âNo.â He answered, not even needing to think about the answer for long. There was no way he could turn them in now. âI⌠it's justâŚâ He trailed off, even now trying to find a logical response to his reasoning. Even if one wasnât needed in the first place.Â
  Many others wouldnât care. They would turn in the artist without a thought, soulmate or not. It wouldnât matter to them, but to Din. To him it mattered more than he ever thought it would. Â
âAre you good with kids?â He asked them, thinking of the child waiting for him. He could already see the child taking a liking to them and the idea of having some help with the child was something he looked forward to.Â
âYou have kids?âÂ
He shifted uneasily at their question, feeling oddly vulnerable in this moment, âSort of, I have a foundling in my care and have been thinking about getting someone to help with caring for him.âÂ
 Din couldnât explain the sudden concern that he felt at telling them of the child. He didnât understand the sudden want for them to accept the little womp rat. The thought of maybe them not wanting anything to do with him now that they knew he had a child in his care actually scared him. Even worse, he found himself fearing their rejection, already having a desire to keep them with him.Â
 Which is why he was happy to see the large grin that had spread across their cheeks at hearing about the child, âI would love to help you with that.âÂ
âThe position is permanent.â He said with a teasing undertone in his voice, not being able to help the sudden bubble of happiness which had swelled within him.Â
âOh I would hope so.âÂ
  A grin had spread across his lips under the helmet at their own teasing reply, and he found himself closing the distance between them once more. One of his gloved hands had came to their cheek, tilting their head to look up at him. In response one of their own hands, paint stains and all, covered his. He had watched them for a bit like this, before finally pressing his helmet against their forehead.Â
A Keldabe kiss.
  He wasnât sure if they knew exactly what he was doing, but he would explain everything to them soon enough. For now, he just enjoyed the moment he was sharing with them. His eyes closing, as his arms had moved to wrap themselves around the artist to hold them closely.Â
They had then stood embracing each other for a while, just allowing each other to take in the other's presence while they did. Honestly Din found himself never wanting to let go of them againâa feeling foreign but not unpleasant for him.Â
  Din couldnât explain why it felt so right to be this close to someone he barely knew. He couldnât even understand why he had suddenly wanted to spend the rest of his life with this person. The only thing known to him in this moment was that before him stood a person who would be forever intertwined with him.
 His clan of two had become a clan of three. Â

Smoke, Flasks, and Unfinished Tasks: Chapter 9
AO3 Link!
Chapter 1 Link!, Chapter 2 Link!, Chapter 3 Link!, Chapter 4 Link!, Chapter 5 Link! Chapter 6 Link! Chapter 7 Link! Chapter 8 Link!
Summary: As their time in the Calabash continues, the trio is face with three very different kinds of scenarios. Some simple, some subtle, all personal. Outside, the elders come to a realization and start to plan.
Warnings: Re-living emotional and physical abuse, psychological torment, panic attacks, blood and injury descriptions.
Authorâs note:Â ... so itâs been... 3 weeks since I last updated this fic. Being honest, I wasnât happy with what I had already written after re-reading it. I decided to take a week to let what I had left sit and come back to edit again, and then I realized I HATED what I wrote. So I took a second week off updating and completely rewrote everything I had in the fic so far, including this chapter. I think part of the problem was that, at the time I wrote these chapters a couple months ago, we didnât have the special and the way I wrote the characters when the situation gets heavier felt off to me. Hopefully I have fixed this!
Chapter 9: Mix and Match
Another blink, another move, and Red Son was at the counter of his food stand that he opened for the Lunar New Year festival. Watching as potential customers passed by and looked over their options, still at the festival stall, still at the Lunar New Year festival where...
He blinked again and there was a flash of red and green flames burning in tandem, wrapped around each other and swirling around a figure clad in golden light.
When his eyes opened the visage was gone, not replaced by another change of scenery but back to same view of the festival he had seen before he closed his eyes. Another blink, and time seemed to have moved forward. There was a man standing before him and yelling and grabbing his frock and oh. He remembered this.
âLook, I wanna speak to the manager.â
It was different this time. Red hadnât blinked, but it was like the world glitched around him in a strange kaleidoscope not unlike a broken computer monitor that made his eyes ache and skipped forward in time. Like someone was pressing the skip button on an online video and jumped over his own response. He watched as the man (was it the same man from the shoe store? he looked like him but he had only ever seen him once before so he couldnât be sure) ran off after seeing his father, screaming into the crowd and drawing more than a few confused and concerned looks.
A skip. âGreat!?â His father yelled with a growl. âI am the Demon Bull King! What would you have me be? The King of Street Food!?â
Red Son opened his mouth and there was another skip, he was right next to his fatherâs face when he growled at him. Heâd made the mistake of mentioning the White Bone Spirit at that time, he remembered. His father had been growing more and more frustrated at this arrangement as the day had gone on and looking back on it now this was possibly the tipping point that made his father snap.
Why had he brought her up in the first place?
Another skip and Redâs head started to feel light, like he was on the verge of feeling like he would pass out but wasnât quite there yet, and his father slammed his hands into the countertop. âEnough! I may have failed as a conqueror, but I will not be made a fool!â
Once again Red Son opened his mouth to speak and the world glitched again and he was being pulled from the food stall in the hand of his father now changed into his full size, grip almost too tight in his frustration but not tight enough to hurt him. Not physically, anyway. But Red couldnât help feeling his chest tighten and grow cold despite the warmth that lived under his skin. He knew this was just the Calabash, knew this wasnât really happening.
But he still knew what was to come. And regret filled his heart like ice water.
âWe are going to have a talk, you and I.â
~
MK looked down at his hand, the one that had slammed into the Monkey Kingâs face still clenched into a fist both shaking and numb, and felt his breathing speed up more and more and his head hurt. His head felt like a steel vice was gripping it and yet like it was empty and too light at the same time, his vision blurred and he distantly heard the familiar voice of his mentor asking him if he was ok and no no he wasnât ok he was dying.
Except he wasnât dying, he knew that. Heâd experienced this before, many times. A panic attack. Heâd be fine, just needed some time to-
âKid?â
That wasnât Sun Wukongâs voice anymore.
MK raised his head and his eyes widened at the change in scenery. He was in Pigsyâs Noodles, not on a cliff side after training, and Pigsy had just come back from buying... something, he couldnât remember what.
But what he did remember were the two people he had just taken his eyes off of.
âLook at us when weâre talking to you, brat!â A womanâs voice, one he hadnât heard in person in almost two years, rang out before a hand reached out and grabbed a sizeable chunk of his hair and yanked his line of sight back to her.
âHey, get your hands off my employee!â Pigsy yelled out, dropping whatever he had purchased to rush to MKâs side and grab the womanâs hand and pull it back flush with his head to keep her from pulling his hair out. âWho the hell do you think you are!?â
âWho do you think?â a voice that should have been less familiar now than it was.
His mother was gone. Where his father should have been stood Pigsy, no longer holding the hand in his hair but looking at him in disappointment with a shake of his head. MK looked up and...
Sun Wukong looked down at him with disdain. A look that he hadnât even given to the Six-Eared Macaque when hey fought, one of pure malice and hatred and his hand went to yank his hair harder before the hand holding his own gripped claws of some kind into his wrist to force him to let go.
âYou ungrateful little brat, why did I ever give you a chance to be my successor!â The Monkey King hissed and this wasnât him this wasnât his mentor this was not Sun Wukong MK repeated to himself as he felt his chest grow tighter again and he clenched his teeth with a scowl.
He turned behind him and where Pigsy should have been standing behind him, the one to catch him as he stumbled backward, stood someone else. Blurred in computer glitches and shaped with long robes and large ears and a fluffy tail and he could see that the shape of the person was smiling softly. Too softly.
The scenery had changed back to the cliff side and suddenly there was a hand on his shoulder and MK jumped and whirled around and saw the once again kind face of Sun Wukong. Marred in worry and fear and confusion. MK flinched back without meaning to.
âBud? MK? Whatâs going on?â
~
Nothing had happened since Mei arrived at the festival. Absolutely nothing.
After what happened not even a few minutes ago the dragon was on edge, looking over her shoulder at every movement. She kept her hands in her pockets now, not wanting to look at them. When she did she saw red, a red no one else seemed to be able to see on her, blood from the MK that she had sliced open. It marked her, not only her hands but her clothes and face where it had splattered on her.
She didnât dare look at her sword.
Logically she knew that it wasnât real, the Calabash was tricking her senses as best it could. But it felt real, it felt like she had truly killed her best friend on accident and his blood was on her like a warning for others to stay away.
No one did, though. They acted like she wasnât covered in the evidence of a murder. Maybe that was an error or maybe that was the intent. To make her feel like she was slowly going to fear everyone learning her secret. A secret that wasnât real. Lucky for Mei she had plenty of experience pretending that everything was alright and moving forward with a smile. More than enough experience.
Something far worse was coming for her though. She could feel it. After what Princess Jade Face had said to her? This couldnât possibly be the plan by itself.
âYouâre acting weird,â Pigsy said beside Sandy and looking up at her on large demonâs shoulder as they watched the parade procession. âYouâre quieter than usual.â
âJust thinking about stuff,â she answered with a shrug, easy as saying the sky was blue. It wasnât a lie, she was thinking about stuff. Just not what the real Pigsy would have expected, or even a construct Pigsy.
âHuh...â the construct Pigsy said with a shrug, turning back to the parade. It was odd though... He hadnât once mentioned MK like he had during the real festiv- âMK would have liked to see this.â Calabash. Reading her mind. Of course. âI miss the kid...â
So that was the angle Jade Face was playing with right now. Something simple. Something easy. The calm before the storm.
âYeah, he would have,â Mei sad softly, not looking at the blood still running down her shirt. She watched as a ghost of a wound opened on Pigsyâs back over his clothing, like a preview image of what was to come, choosing to ignore how it looked suspiciously like her sword. Choosing to ignore how the blood seeped over his back and dissipated before hitting the ground and how she could see bits of bone and viscera she should not know the look of in person.
She ignored.
~
âYou bastard,â Sun Wukong said with a hiss in his voice, baring his teeth at the Demon Bull King. âYou- how could you have possibly thought that was a good idea!? In what universe would that have been the way to make him listen to you!?â
For his part, the Demon Bull King actually looked at least somewhat ashamed. Despite being larger than all of them put together the disapproving glares of Sun Wukong, Tang, Pigsy, Sandy, and even Mo seemed to do their jobs well enough.
âI make no excuse for my words or actions that day,â he said firmly, standing straight with a shake of his head. âBut do not doubt that I have regretted and wished to undo them every day since-â
âSince what?â Pigsy snapped, beating Wukong himself to the punch. âSince you said them? Or since he told you to fuck off?â
âPigsy!â Tang whispered out loudly behind him, grabbing his shoulder and moving his disproving gaze from DBK to give the other man one of worry.
âNo, itâs gotta be asked Tang,â Pigsy responded, glower not moving from the larger demon. He didnât back down, gritting his teeth with a growl of his own building in his throat for them all to hear. âAnswer me you-â
âSince he told us to leave him,â DBK answered, his honesty in his tone surprising the pig demon. His face was angry, but Pigsy could tell it wasnât entirely at him. There was anger at himself there. âAgain, I made no excuses. I was blinded by power and anger before and it took much more than it should have for us, both myself and my wife, to realize what we had done. That does not change that it happened.â
â... thatâs why you let him stay,â Wukong said after a moment of silence between them. âThatâs why youâve been trying to convince him to come back and why you...â He scowled more, shaking his head with a conflicted look of anger and sorrow on his face. âYouâre actually trying to make it up to him somehow.â
âPoorly,â DBK also admitted in shocking honesty, sighing before he rotated his shoulders and morphed in front of them. Shrinking down to a more reasonable side, not that much taller than Sandy. âI know I have made mistakes and this alone wonât set things right, but I do care about my son.â He said âsonâ like it was the most odd word to say, like he hadnât said it in a long time but he finally understood what it meant. After what he had told them, it made sense. âWe will help you find him, and you have my word that should he chose to return to your side we will not stop him.â
âBut you wonât stop trying to convince him to give you another chance, will you?â Wukong asked, looking up at DBK. His face was neutral once again, businesslike. Testing the waters.
âNo, I wonât,â DBK admitted something for the third time, nodding his head. He was serious.
Wukong turned back to the rest of his companions, three of them looking at Pigsy instead of Wukong. The two once-brother in arms looked at each other. One middle brother and one eldest. Wukong nodded to Pigsy, a silent acquiescence.
âItâs your decision nowâ the nod seemed to say.
Pigsy waited a moment, weighing his options. This had only made his disdain for the Demon Bull Family grow more... but his kids were still in danger. What was worse? Working with someone he hated to help the people he cared about? Or pushing aside help they may desperately need due to that hate?
â... Fine. But you are going to give us everything we need.â
âThat can certainly be arranged,â Princess Iron Fanâs voice rang through the room, entering the room with a veritable army of Bull Clones carrying everything from tech to tables and chairs in behind her. âWhere shall we begin?â

Mairimashita! Irumakun s2 ep11
Alright... this is late again lol. Thereâs more than 15 images gonna be on here, I think. Like 2 or 3 more which usually causes errors if I try uploading that much but the twewy finale post miraculously handled more than 20 so maybe itâll be fine.
This episode has 2 parts!
The exams are finally over and everyone is worried about their grades. Kalego-sensei very disappointedly tells them that... they all passed! He was hoping they wonât lol.
Some of the students ranked up because of their exam results and Iruma got praised for being the one to have improved a lot. While everyone is celebrating, Azz tells Iruma this all happened thanks to him. Iruma is confused as to how and Asmodeus tells him that the others saw how hard Iruma was working on studying that they got inspired to work hard to. Iruma is amazed by this information.
(While I do appreciate Azz being a one-man cheer squad for Iruma, I do hope he doesnât inflate the guyâs ego too much cause it feels like itâs actually slowly happening and it scares me cause in other stories, such a thing would be a red flag signaling something bad happening. Thatâs just me though.)
Iruma runs off to look for Baram-sensei so he could tell him about the exam results and the stuff Azz said. He bumps into the guy on the way and sees that Sensei is now sporting a new haircut. (I think he looks better this way. More teacher-looking.)
Sensei is happy to know Irumaâs hard work paid off and spins the boy around happily. Iruma thanks him for all his help but Sensei said Iruma did his best and itâs why the results were good.
He gives Iruma a congratulatory present which made Iruma panic a little as he recognized the plant as a salamander flower. This made Sensei happy as this meant Irumaâs studies were successful and that the boy could recognize these stuff now. All of these knowledge would help Iruma survive living in the Demon World which is what Sensei wanted. He then mentions the flower heâs holding is made safe.
They talk a bit and Iruma tells him about Azzâs observation. Sensei then tells Iruma about why he changed his hairstyle. He says itâs to make himself look less scary so he could try and get along with other people. Iruma asked if it was because of him that he wanted to change (like Azz said earlier about how he affects people) and Sensei answered that itâs not exactly the case. It was thanks to Iruma that he wanted to change because Irumaâs words had a good impact on him especially cause he knew Iruma was sincere and not lying.
On the way back, Baram-sensei passed by Kalego-sensei who immediately notices the hairstyle change. Kalego-sensei laughs a bit and says heâs glad that Baram-senseiâs new hairstyle made him look more regal as it fits their ranking. It is now revealed that only the two of them in the school have the khet rank which is the 8th highest.
Itâs also revealed what Baram-senseiâs ability is: Buzzer. He can tell when people are lying and could detect when someone is cheating which is why itâs impossible for students to cheat on the exams. He has the entire school covered, too and will immediately have any cheater caught.
Iruma and friends had their mini celebration for passing the tests by the way! Iruma asked where their Senpai is and Asmodeus informs him that the guy got caught cheating and is now taking remedials.
On the 2nd part of the episode, Ameri is waiting for Iruma so she could hold a mini celebration of her own as Iruma passed the tests but Clara shows up instead to tell her the bad news: Iruma had been dragged by the others to their own happy get-together at a karaoke... er, screaming room.
We then see the boys having fun and one is singing season 1â˛s OP!
Ameri reads Irumaâs text apologizing about not being able to come. Sheâs disappointed but she understands although sheâs confused as to why Clara had to show up to tell her about it when Iruma could just text her like he had actually done. Clara then drags her, alongside the tea and snacks she prepared for Iruma, and brought her to the other girls.
Awkward.
They decide to do an introduction to start things off. Elizabetta also decided to finally talk to the popular Student Council President and ask a question she had been wondering: what shampoo does Ameri use? This started their little convo about shampoo and conditioner.
After Kerori tells what she uses, she remembers the commercial she did for said products (lol sheâs sponsored) and is embarrassed. Ameri sees this and is confused as to why Kerori looks like sheâs panicking.
Clara reveals that hers is soap. She uses just soap on her hair and body and everyone is surprised and kinda horrified by this information. They offer to give her some extra shampoo they have so she could try them out next time.
Meanwhile, back to the boys! Itâs Irumaâs turn to sing and he canât just say no. He worries as he doesnât know any song... except one.
He then chose to sing the Kuromu song he sang with the idol last season - complete with dance! Everyone cheered on and sang along as well! No one suspected anything and just thought that Iruma is probably just a big Kuromu fan.
Back to the girls... it's time for the inevitable: talks about romance!
Elizabetta asks who they all like and Clara didn't miss a beat and answers "Iruma-chi". Ameri is shocked and also worried since she now realizes she has a rival who is closer to Iruma than she is (and one who is more feminine than her to boot!).
When itâs Keroriâs turn to answer, she suddenly remembered Iruma in his evil cycle (being the cool edgy boy that he is). Ameri is internally pissed and is wondering how many other girls might be into Iruma.
She is then reminded of a scene from the manga Iruma reads to her and realizes she can now relate to the female rival lol.
Hang in there, President! Youâre better than this haha.
Everyone then continues with the love talk and assumes Ameri probably has some romantic experience with her being popular and all and asked for advice. Ameri, not actually having any and not exactly knowing what to say just answered the only things she know: stuff sheâs read from a shoujo manga.
Kerori on the other hand is confused. Is it that hard to get a guyâs attention? In her experience as an idol, even just smiling at a guy would get them to like you. after all.
Clara later mentions how she likes Iruma... and everyone. Ameri then had to ask for clarification and explains the âlikeâ they've all been talking about all this time is romantic in nature. To explain, itâs like wanting to marry Iruma.
Claraâs imagination quickly went to work and she thinks of her wedding with Iruma. Hereâs a cute picture of Clara realizing her feelings lol.
Kerori and Elizabetta starts arguing about the whole marriage thing. Kerori thinks theyâre too young to even think of marriage (yeah, like, arenât they all 14-15?) and Elizabetta thinks that it doesnât matter cause love is love. Ameri gives her own perspective and says proposal and being engaged first would be good (and she thinks of Iruma). In the middle of their argument, they wonder why they all suddenly got aggressive about this. It is revealed (to the audience only) that itâs the effect of the relaxing tea. Theyâve become too relaxed that they were able to say whatâs on their minds easily.
They finally calmed down later that afternoon and realized they actually had fun and got along. Ameri then tells them that if sheâs not on student council duty, they may call her by her name which made the others happy. The girls exchanged phone numbers afterwards.
--
This episode is pretty peaceful. I like all the little things that happened and the conversations that let us learn a bit about many characters. The boys having fun at the karaoke was nice to watch and the girls becoming friends is so cute!
So, I usually donât really mention the âIntervalâ chibi segments of the show but the one for todayâs episode gave a bit of behind the scene at something. Eiko, the girl who has a crush on Iruma (and Ameri) wanted to help Iruma study so she did what she could: she herself studied and made easy to understand reviewers. She had Asmodeus pass them onto Iruma (in a past interval segment, the two became friends due to their shared love of Iruma).
Come exam results, Eiko got really high marks from all the studying she did for Irumaâs sake. :)
Nothing too intense happened this time around so this is pretty short. If I had known I wouldnât get errors, I wouldâve gotten a few more screenshots. I wonder what the next arc is gonna be like though?
Well, thanks for reading!

Falling Asleep on Them | NCT Dream
Pairings: NCT Dream X Reader (gender neutral)
Genre: flufffffyyyÂ
Authorâs Note: I had the sudden urge to write so hereâs a headcanon that I wanted to try. Sorry if itâs bad and inaccurate but I thought it would be so cute to think about howâd they react to you falling asleep on them
Mark:Â
The moment he felt you suddenly lean against him and to see you asleep? Depending on how close you two were at the time, I think he would respond like this:
Been together for not too long: he would become a lil flustered and stay still, making sure you were comfortable and tried to keep on doing whatever he was doing in the first place but his mind kept going back to you, who were leaning on him.
This meant he would look over to your sleeping figure every now and thenÂ
Been together for a long time: say you two were watching a movie together. He would think nothing of it and probably wrap the blanket around you more. Look around to see you were comfy and feel warm inside knowing you were his
would even pull you in closer against his body so you were laying on his chest instead of his lap with his arms slung over your back/ waist and/ or his leg draped over your own legs beneath the blanket (if the two of you were laying on your sides and he continued to watch the movie)
He would sneak in a few to a couple of pictures to keep for memory and look back whenever he was on a long tour away from home cause he would miss you even though you two textedÂ
Overall: sweet and chill about it
Renjun:Â
A sweetie
I donât think it would matters how long you two have been together
he would be sweet to you no matter whatÂ
If you two were spending time together like chillinâ in the living room and like the others came over to play video games, the moment he sees your head nod off, he would open his arm up, inviting you to cuddle close to his side
But only you
When others like haechan saw and wanted to join too, he would probably laugh in their face like
âAhh Renjun lemme cuddle too~â haechan cooed
âHa ha ha. No.â And continue on completely unfazed as the other member(s) clutched their chest, fake cryingÂ
subconsciously rubs your arm just a little every now and then
Plays with your hair a little like brushes circles on the crown of your head
Jeno:Â
When you tapped his arm or tugged on the sleeve to get his attention, his heart suddenly swelled twice the size but he didnât show it
Or at least the lights in the room were turned off/ dimmed down so you couldnât see the his ears turning red
âCan I sleep on you?â You asked with a yawn
âY-Yeah, go for it,â He stammered a little. âYou donât need to ask, though, y/n,â he kept his eyes on the screen as he mumbled this last bit, a light heat rushing to his face but you didnât seem to hear
his eyes were on the screen or they were looking at whatever you two were doing but he didnât actually take anything inÂ
the person he had feelings for was. on. him. alseep.Â
head empty, just you in his thoughtsÂ
He was a bit flustered ngl but he liked how warm you made him feel inside even though he looked so tough on stage and always seemed like the one with the cold exterior even though he was a whole puppy a samoyed
Did a full 180, crazyyy
He looked over to you occasionally and his eyes smiled :)
Overall: the cool guy that seems cool on the outside, but is losin a bit of his cool in a good way on the inside
Haechan and Jaemin (cause i think they would react similarly):Â
If you did it without asking, Haechan, depending on his mood (I think?) would let you do what you did and made sure not to disturb you
Orrr he would tease you a little like Jaemin would
âOooh~ is y/n sleepy?â
âAw use me as a pillow, noo, donât go away~â he would pout when you teased him back and leaned towards the other member to use as a pillow instead
âNice and comfyâ and Jaemin would tuck you in
Also you cant tell me that Jaemin would not talk in a baby voice to you but not all the time, just most of the time
Theyâre both super sweet. They all are
They had some sort of touch lingering on you like haechanâs Hand loosely draped over your waist as you slept on a pillow over his legs or
Jaeminâs occasional like graze with his fingers over your features. He would also be one to take pictures of your sleeping face with his silly one throwing up a peace sign
Sometimes haechan night even like poke your nose or somewhere a lil annoying to see if you would wake up
same johnny same
Chenle:Â
Thought nothing of it when he felt you nudge his elbow and felt your head resting in his lap when he lifted it
He was consumed in his pubg game on his phone, feeling nowhere near tired on his winning streak
He thought you felt like a cat ngl
You slept snuggly on his lap and he put in his AirPods (pro, ofc) so he could still hear the game without disturbing you
He pulled the blanket higher over your shoulder when his match ended, waiting for the next one to start, and you were fast asleep
Like a few others, he took a few pictures too. Depending on how he felt, I think, he would send them to the others to show off how cute you were (if he was feeling playful) or he would keep them to himself
honestly would probably also accidentally wake you by talking or laughing too loudÂ
bruh heâs a whole dolphinÂ
doesnât feel embarrassed in my book but overall: super easy going with you sleeping on him all of a sudden or any timeÂ
Jisung:Â
Error 404: brain malfunctioning
This poor baby
He was so flustered and he literally froze when you fell asleep leaning against his arm at the movie theater
Was the movie he picked that boring? He literally began to panic
If it wasnât so dark in the theater, others could probably see the smoke coming from his ears
He didnât know what to feel since his emotions were lil all over the place like
He felt nervous since he didnât wanna move and accidentally wake you but he was also like happy cause the person he likes is sleeping on him omg
If heâs feeling bold, which might be pretty slim ngl, he would reach for your hand and hold it loosely since heâs so nervous rn
Would gently wake you with the softest voice ever and his voice is low too so thatâs nice
But heâs flustered and doesnât know how to act too well around the person he likes but itâs okay since heâs new to this relationship

MASTERLIST
âPlease tell me youâre messing with us,â Jisoo said with a look of disgust on her face.
âTruth hurts sometimes,â you said with a shrug as you pushed Jennie a little so you had room to sit down.
âDonât touch me you heathen,â Jennie hisses out, mirroring Jisooâs disgusted face.
âYou idiot what were you thinking? How do you think Chan is gonna react when he finds out?â Jisoo scolded.
âYou cannot tell him!â You said as your eyes grew wide.
âWhy canât you tell him? Itâs not like he has any right to feel any type of way,â Seulgi said with a shrug.
âBut still, Marks our enemy,â Jennie said with an eye roll.
âI donât see how we came to that conclusion,â Irene stated with an icy glare.
âWhat do you mean âhow we came to that conclusionâ?? Stray Kids told us-â Jisoo started only to be cut off.
âExactly! You got your information from Stray Kids! The eight assholes who faked their own deaths and are trying to bring down the JYP empire. How stupid are you to actually believe a word they say! And you y/n, I canât believe you kissed him. Since when are the two of you close enough where kissing is apart of your relationship,â she rants, her face growing red in anger.
You start thinking back to what Chan had told you in the club. About Irene being in love with Mark. You didnât want to believe him but it lowkey made sense.
âIrene why are you so quick to blindly follow JYP? You arenât even apart of their mafia,â Jisoo questioned as she shook her head.
âItâs because sheâs in love with him,â you state with a sigh.
âSheâs in love with Mr. Jinyoung? Nasty,â Seulgi said as she shuttered at the thought.
âWhat? No sorry I meant Mark.â
âIâm not in love with Mark. And even if I was itâs none of your business y/n.â
âItâs none of my business? Are you serious right now?â
âWait Irene do you actually love him? Is that why you donât believe Stray Kids?â Jennie questioned.
âI am not in love with Mark! I just think heâs more trust worthy then those lying scum bags who are trying to ruin everything that weâve built!â
âLying scum bags? Irene stop being delusional! They arenât the ones who are lying and you know it. They arenât threatening SM at all so how are they ruining anything that weâve built?â
You couldnât believe the words coming out of her mouth.
âIâm not having this conversation, I have more important matters to attend to. Jennie, Jisoo, it was good seeing you. I wish I could say the same for you y/n.â
And with that, Irene was gone with a conflicted Seulgi trailing after her.
âWe gotta leave and we gotta leave now,â you say as you begin packing some belongings.
âWhat why?â Jennie asked as she observed you as you frantically shoved shit in your bag.
âBecause Irene is so snitching to Mark and I ainât trying to die. Iâm too young and hot for that.â
âFair point, are you gonna go back go to the stray kids base?â Jennie asked as she stood up, stretching her limbs.
âYeah, but if anyone asks weâre having a sleepover. I think itâs time we take plan awaken to the next step. Iâm starting to feel anxious, too many people know about the plan and itâs just a matter of time before the full truth comes to light. JB is already suspicious and Mark is having doubts. I lied to him earlier but Iâm not sure how much longer heâll believe me.â
After quickly packing your things, Jisoo, Jennie, and you quickly make your way downstairs only to be stopped by Jaebum.
âGoing somewhere?â He questioned with an eye brow raised as he took a bite out of the red apple he was eating.
âYeah Iâm gonna go over to the girls for a little,â you state.
âFor how long?â
âUmmm I donât know, a day or two. Maybe longer, I havenât really been able to have a lot of girl time with them,â you lie with a little laugh.
âDoes Mark know?â
âDoes he need to know?â
âI donât know, you tell me.â
âDo you ever stop with the questions,â Jisoo sassed.
âWell I just want to make sure our little y/n here is safe,â he said with a fake smile.
âShe will be now if youâll excuse us,â Jennie said while pushing you out the door, throwing JB a glare.
Once in the KIA, you give Chan a call. He answers almost immediately.
âIs something wrong? Are you hurt?â
âIâm okay but Iâm on my way over. I think itâs time we move forward with the plan. I think you were right about Irene having feelings for Mark and Iâm worried she might tell him.â
âWhat made you think that? Did something happen.â
âUmmm well.....â
You lowkey began to panic, not knowing if you should tell Chan about the kiss.
âY/n?â
âHum yeah?â
âBabygirl what happened? You have me a little worried.â
âListen weâll talk when I get there okay?â
âOkay. Be careful, Iâll inform the boys youâre on your way.â
âOkay, see you soon.â
And with that, the call was over. It didnât take too long for you to get to their base. Or maybe you were so wrapped up in your thoughts that the drive seemed short. Once you arrived, you quickly entered their mansion and were bombarded with questions for the 8 man children that stood in front of you.
âWill you all calm down,â you laughed out at you shooed them all away.
âOkay okay but tell us whatâs going on,â Jisung urged as he looked at you with wide eyes.
With slight hesitation, you glance at Jennie and Jisoo who both gave you a nod and a slight smile. Encouraging you to continue.
With a sigh you explain the entire cafe situation and how Mark told you his suspicions. You continued on with how he drove you to the secluded place and how you told him some truth and some lies. You paused slightly as you thought about the kiss.
âWhat is it? What happened next?â Felix questioned as he leaned forward.
âWell....ummm the thing is....he might have maybe idk áľâąË˘Ë˘áľáľ áľáľ but I canât be too sure.â
The room fell silent.
âIâm sorry but he might have kissed you but you canât be too sure? Are you fucking kidding me?â Chan scoffed as his face twisted in anger.
âThatâs disgusting y/n,â Minho stated while looking appalled.
There are more answers of agreement but you rolled your eyes and continued.
âAnyway, when I came home and told Irene, Seulgi, Jisoo, and Jennie, Irene got really pissed and basically said that we were dumb for trusting you. She seemed more worried about Mark and JYP then she was about any of us.â
âOh sheâs so gonna snitch,â Hyunjin commented with a shake of his head.
âAlso, as we were leaving Jaebum kept asking us a lot of questions,â Jisoo pipped in.
âFucking Jaebum all up in our business,â Changbin stated with an eye roll.
âWell itâs a good thing you came here y/n. As for now, we wonât do anything. We can talk more about it tomorrow. Thereâs a lot I need to think about before we move forward,â Chan said as he clenched his fist, looking pissed off.
âHey are you guys gonna stay too?â Seungmin asked as he looked at Jisoo and Jennie.
âWeâll probably stay for a bit but not for the entire night,â Jennie said.
Soon the room broke off into a bunch of little conversations. You currently were talking to Seungmin and jeongin about life in general when you glanced over to look at Chan who stood to the side of the room with an unreadable look on his face. Excusing yourself from the conversation, you made your way over to him.
âHey are you alright?â You ask softly as you place your hand on his shoulder.
Chan glances down at your hand before a small sigh left his lips.
âCome on, letâs talk,â he stated as he softly grabbed your hand and lead you out of the room.
After a couple of twist and turns, you make it into what you presume to be Chanâs room. Letting go of your hand Chan begins to pace the room as you take a seat on his bed.
âChan?â You call out softly, a little worried.
Nothing.
âChan,â you call out with a little more power.
Suddenly Chan stops and approaches you quickly. In the flash of an eye Chan is cupping your checks with his lips on yours. It only took you a moment to get over the initial moment of shock before you begin to kiss him back. Your hands gripping his broad shoulders. After a few seconds, he pushes you back onto the bed slightly while moving his hands on to your arms, raising them above your head. Your lungs felt like they were going to collapse any second as your heart rate increased. The kiss was fiery and filled with need. You practically could feel the jealousy and anger radiating off of Chan. You couldnât believe you forgot how good it felt to have his lips and hands on you. Yet it was over just as quickly as it had started. Panting as he pulled away, Chan quickly stood up.
âIâm sorry I.....â he trailed off while avoiding your eyes.
âWhat? You have no reason to be sorry,â you chuckle lightly as you try to catch your breath.
âI really donât know what came over me, it was just the idea of Marks hands and lips on your body....it makes me so mad to think about,â he said while shaking his head.
âY/n, I need to know that you donât love him. I need to know that if there ever came a time where you had to pick between the two of us, there wouldnât be any hesitation and you would pick me.â
âChan,â you sigh out as you stand up and make your way towards him.
âNo one forced me to fall in love with you, no one forced me to say yes when you asked me to marry you. With Mark, itâs a totally different story. I would be lying if I said that a part of me didnât care for him because I do but not in the same way that I care for you. It doesnât matter how long weâve been apart, it hasnât changed how I feel about you. No amount of time apart could make me stop loving you and I want no, I need you to know that.â
Chan gives you a cute little smile as he pulls you into a hug. The two of you stay in each otherâs arms for what feels like a lifetime.
âIâm sorry for leaving you,â Chan says all of a sudden as he pulls aways and strokes your check lightly.
âItâs okay, you did what you had to do,â you tell him with a small smile.
âStill, I should have trusted you and I didnât. I regret that so much and I just want you to know that.â
âHonestly I probably wouldnât have trusted me if I was you, I donât blame you,â you tell him sincerely.
Chan pulls you in for another kiss, this one being softer and filled with all the love that Chan felt for you. Your moment is cut short as you hear a loud bang come from downstairs.
âI swear to god if itâs Jisung and Hyunjin fighting Iâm going to end both of them,â Chan growls out as he pulls away from you causing you to laugh.
For the first time since Chan had left, you felt as if you were whole. You felt as though you were finally home. Because thatâs what Chan was for you, he was your home. And you would be damned if you let someone take that away from you again. JYP had another thing coming to him if he thought that you all would go down without a fight.

[ENG] History3: Make Our Days Count - IF Alternative Ending
âThat Day, You are Still Hereâ
That car accident left Xi Gu with severe injuries, and at one point, his heart even stopped beating. The Xi Gu in his dreams even left him, leaving Hao Ting behind to slowly walk through life on his own. Even when he went to university, entered a well-known biology research center, at his side one person was always missing from his side. That feeling is as if his heart was dug out, leaving behind an empty space. Regardless of when heâs asleep or awake, Hao Ting feels the panic and fear so deep, the kind that leaves him with a face covered entirely in tears when he comes back to himselfâŚ
âItâs been so long alreadyâŚâ Xi Gu squints, but in his eyes the joy at having someone care for him like this is revealed, as does the gentleness and softness his feels for the one he loves.

Full chapter below the cut
Xiang Hao Ting opens his eyes, and for a moment he does not even know where he is, who he is; his face feels a little cold, just like the feeling of touching water and having a cool breeze blow over it after. Â Turning his face to the side, Yu Xi Guâs sleeping face comes into his line of vision. Itâs easier to look at Xi Guâs face now, which has become fuller since their days in high school. The only things that havenât changed are his long eyelashes and his white as porcelain skin colour - even though heâs running outside more frequently now, Xi Guâs skin has not darkened.
His breaths are deep and long, and this is the breathing technique most suitable for being on a mountain. Hao Ting and Xi Gu watched each otherâs breathing pattern and rhythm closely before this to practice breathing in this manner. People who did not know what they were doing exactly may have thought they were practicing Lamaze Breathing instead.*
Ah, breathing. Hao Ting slowly remembers that where he and Xi Gu are right now is Paiyun Lodge.
He dreamt of that scene again. His entire body is drenched in cold sweat, and the sleeping bag he is in is now abnormally warm and stuffy because of that. Shifting his gaze towards the outside, he sees that a ray of sunlight has already entered the room. Hao Ting thinks that they still have an hour before they have to get ready for breakfast, and he can use the time to wipe himself dry.Â
He does not expect Xi Gu to open his eyes the moment he moves.
âIs it time?â Xi Gu asks and keeps his voice low, because itâs not just the both of them in this room.
There are other hiking friends with them, and loud noises can easily disturb the rest.
âNot yet,â Hao Ting replies, then points at his wet hair.
âSo wetâŚâ Xi Gu might as well get up, and with light movements he finds the dried towel sitting on top of the backpack next to their bedrolls so he can help Hao Ting dry his hair.
Under the dim light, he sees that Hao Ting looks both a little sick and upset, and idly asks if Hao Ting had a nightmare. Xi Gu does not expect Hao Tingâs body to shudder hard at that, both his brows furrowed tight.
âYou had a bad dream?â
Xi Guâs heart aches for the man. After all, before they slept the night before, Hao Ting did seem a little unsteady and anxious, so heâs not surprised that Hao Ting had a bad dream.
âI dreamt of⌠the day you met with the accident, and your entire body was covered in bloodâŚâ
The accident happened such a long time ago, but thinking about it still makes Hao Ting afraid, because the details in his dream were exceptionally clear, and the fear and terror he felt from that day is written deep in his bones.
Regardless of when heâs asleep or awake, Hao Ting feels the panic and fear so deep, the kind that leaves him with a face covered entirely in tears when he comes back to himselfâŚ**
âItâs been so long alreadyâŚâ Xi Gu squints, but in his eyes the joy at having someone care for him like this is revealed, as does the gentleness and softness his feels for the one he loves.
âIâm still here, donât worry.â***
Hao Ting embraces Xi Gu so tight, with the strength of someone trying to absorb Xi Gu into his body. Xi Gu is the person whose hand Hao Ting has held in his all this time, and Xi Gu is his prized treasure. Not even talking about losing him, if Xi Gu hurts himself usually by knocking into or hitting things, Hao Tingâs heart will ache for half a day at least.
âWe promised that weâll be together! Youâre not allowed to break our promise!â
Suddenly, Hao Ting feels the person in his arms jolt, and the hand on his back is lightly shaking as well. When he realizes what a dumb thing heâs doing right now, itâs too late.
How could he pass his anxiety and fears to Xi Gu? Hao Ting treasures him so much, and usually, if he has any frustrations or things heâs unhappy about, he would keep it inside and swallow it.
âIt must be because I wasnât feeling well yesterday before I slept!â Hao Ting blinks as he speaks, even though his tone is a little more high-pitched than usual.
âShhhh!â Xi Gu quickly presses his hand over Hao Tingâs mouth, because it wouldnât do to wake the rest of their hiking party up. âTalk softly. All is good, Iâm here, I wonât leave you all aline.â
Hao Ting blinks with his two huge eyes, and with muffled noises of assent, he nods in agreement. However, the fear and anxiety in his eyes do not vanish completely. Just like the fog outside, Hao Ting finds his emotions hard to dissipate in the moment.
~~~~~~
The both of them leave Paiyun Lodge after breakfast with their friends. Today is the second day in their hiking plan, and they plan to head straight for the mountainâs peak before going back to the lodge, retracing their steps. Then, they will leave the mountain tomorrow.
Hao Ting began to hike and climb after attending university, and Xi Gu, on the other hand, has not exercised in a long time and is extremely skinny and weak in physique. Not to mention that car accident which left him resting for a long, long while after, so no matter how much Xi Gu likes being  close to the forests and nature, there are undeniably some physical limitations for him.
However, a long journey begins with a small step, so after much preparation and consideration, they decided to choose a three day and two night hiking schedule that is low on difficulty as their first step to conquering more mountains in the future.
On the way up to the mountainâs peak, their legs are steady as they climb because the backpacks they chose are able to efficiently hold the weight of all the items they need without putting the stress of the weight on their legs. At first, Xi Gu said that they should pick the cheapest bag, the cheaper the better, but Hao Ting refused. Heâd done his homework, and the backpack and hiking shoes are the most important items to spend money on.
âYou have to carry the backpack the whole day, and shoes carry your entire weight!â
With this, Xi Gu gave into Hao Ting, but Hao Ting also knew that Xi Gu doesnât have much savings he can tap into for this, so he secretly paid for the items for Xi Gu. When he was exposed for it, he still dared to laugh and grin, and directly said that this was the duty of a husband! Xi Gu didnât know whether to laugh or cry at that.
The both of them are the least experienced among the group, so they are placed at the very back of the group with the more experienced leader keeping up the pace behind them. This is so that if anyone leaves the team or feels uncomfortable at any time, he can react quickly and lend them a hand.
Along the way, everyoneâs pace is not fast. After all, this is not the kind of two day and one night hike which requires them to hurry down the mountain, and so there is the occasional chatter and laughter among them. However, Hao Ting is a little more quiet, and only when Xi Gu turns around to look at him does Hao Ting smile.
He is still thinking about the dream from yesterday. He knows what the cause of this dream is, and while the scene at that particular road where the accident occured didnât leave him with any regrets, his memories of that day are clear, and it has permanently left a shadow of fear in his heart.
âAre you still okay?â asks the leader in concern when he sees Hao Ting starting to stray away from the main group.
âHuh? Oh! Yeah, Iâm good, Iâm just thinking about some thingsâŚâ Hao Ting replies.
âYou have to stay focused, if you lose your footing and injure yourself youâll have to go back to the lodge and rest.â
The leader pats at his shoulder and brings him back, closer on the inside.
There are two routes in total to Yu Shan main peak - Dong Buâs âBa Tong Guanâ route which is more difficult, where even experienced climbers usually stay off this path, and instead they use the route on the West, the âTatakaâ route. It has a complete, properly marked out route and the necessary facilities and is beginner-friendly. All they have to do at this time is to hold onto the routeâs chains and watch their own footsteps, and they will be able to see the gorgeous view of the mountains as they make their climb upwards. The fog is gradually vanishing as the sun inches upwards, and the air is especially fresh.
Hao Ting quietly hastens his footsteps to follow Xi Gu. Seeing that his forehead is filled with sweat, Hao Ting takes off the towel at his waist and helps him to wipe that away.
âThank you,â Xi Gu remembers the breathing technique and is making his way upwards steadily one step after the other, but he did not miss the conversation between the leader and Hao Ting earlier, so in between his breaths he manages, âYouâre still thinking about that dream?â
âHnn? No! I was just thinking, when we finally hit the peak, how beautiful that view will be!â he lies quickly.
âThe scenery will be beautiful and itâll make you forget that dream,â Xi Gu smiles.
He is no longer that adolescent, innocent young man anymore, and itâs not as if heâs been with Hao Ting for only a day or two, so Xi Gu is familiar with all of Hao Tingâs moods. He knows that at this point, he cannot argue with Hao Ting. Following Hao Tingâs lead and what he says is the right way to understand him. Furthermore, just arguing with him on whether Hao Ting is concerned about that or not has no meaning.
Xi Gu returns the towel to him and continues the climb, and this time he doesnât forget to hold onto Hao Ting for a few steps before releasing him. Holding hands while climbing is considered a pretty dangerous thing, but the warmth from Xi Guâs hold lingers in Hao Tingâs palm, and successfully pushes the fear and anxiety to the back of Hao Tingâs mind. It will not disappear entirely, but he can exist together with it instead.
~~~~~
The moment they reach the peak, Hao Ting is blown away by the view before his eyes.
It is a whole stretch of blue and there is not a single cloud in the sky. Forests are abound at a glance and under the glorious rays of the sun, it seems as if a layer of gold dust was scattered across the forest. The sight is blinding. Yet, even with the sun, they do not feel hot and just wipe at their sweat with towels, unafraid of catching a cold with the breeze.
The leader gets everyone to put their bags in a particular area, and if they want to take photos they can use this time to do it. If theyâre hungry, they should eat some bread and chocolate right now. When the time is up, everyone will line up again and make their descent to Paiyun Lodge.
After everyone takes moment to catch their breath, they begin to head towards the peakâs sign to take a photo momento, and the older members of the group say they want to take more photos to boast of their climb to their friends, so the atmosphere is particularly warm.
Hao Ting does not join them in their fun, and instead brings Xi Gu slowly to the side, a distance away from everyone else. He really wants to take photos too, but more than that he wants to be glued to Xi Gu. After all, the only reason why he found an interest in the mountains and skies is because Xi Gu likes it.
âItâs a bit of a pity that we canât come up here at night,â he says.
âItâs okay,â Xi Gu, surprisingly, is not concerned about that much.
After all, this is not their final goal, but their beginning.
âWhen we go back to the lodge, we can tell them, that weâve made the first step and we are getting closer and closer to them!â
Their goal then was to climb the Himalayas, to stand at the point that is closest to the stars to tell Xi Guâs parents that everything is good with him.
âHnn! Theyâll definitely be very happy.â
âYou think so?â Xi Guâs smile is exceptionally sweet, and with a brief peek to the people gathered at the sign taking photos, chatting and admiring the view, and making sure that no one is looking at them, Xi Gu then dares to give Hao Tingâs cheek a kiss, âThank you.â
âInstead of saying thank you, you might as well kiss me a few more times!â Hao Ting teases him, raising his eyebrow,.
âWeâre outside right now!â
Xi Gu definitely will not kiss him right here. The both of them exchange glances and laugh, and while there are no kisses, Xi Gu replaces that by secretly digging his finger into Hao Tingâs palm. A silent promise is more beautiful than any declarations at this point.
So immersed the both of them are in their world that it is only when the leader announces their descent that Hao Ting and Xi Gu rush to the sign and ask a few of their group members to take a few photos for them. The older members of the team, seeing them like this, start to laugh loudly and say that these two children are just too adorable.
~~~~~
In the evening, the members of team do not sleep early as they are still sharing their excitement about reaching Yu Shanâs peak, and they even plan to continue on some other climbs together. Laughter echoes through the room, and influenced by the merry atmosphere, he too laughs.
âHappy?â Hao Ting asks, his hands holding onto a hot cup of cocoa.
âIâm really happy! I can be together with you, and I can come and see dad and mom, so Iâm really happy!â Xi Gu beams, his smile so radiant. âOh right, are you still feeling not so well? Is there a buzzing in your ear, dizziness or do you feel like throwing up?â
âNope!â
Hao Ting knows that Xi Gu wants to ask about his dream and not his physical well-being right now, but strangely enough, since hitting peak and returning to the lodge until now, he has not thought about the dream again. Instead, his mind is set on which other climbs they can do next. While Yang Ming Shan isnât actually difficult, but the both of them can go to the onsen with that trip, which is quite attractive.
âThatâs good. If youâve got nothing to do donât dream of those things. You and I are going to live until we are a hundred, and weâre also going to climb all the mountains in Taiwan, then set our sights on those overseas, and conquer the worldâs highest peak.â
Their ambitions sound entirely not realistic, but they are also faced with a future teeming with possibilities and opportunities, so they do not worry about whether it is realistic or not. They only fear not making the first step, and now that they have reached Yu Shanâs peak, then that is their first step.
Hao Ting laughs awkwardly, and says, âI wonât dream of it anymore.â
He lifts his head up to look at a sky full of stars, and even if they cannot see the Rosette Nebula, the entire star system is connected.
âPapa Yu, Mama Yu, I know you can hear me,â Hao Ting reaches for Xi Guâs shoulder and brings him into his embrace, and with his other hand he secretly takes out a small box from his pocket.
He has prepared for this moment for a very long time, and he knows that giving it to him here is most meaningful.
Xi Gu lifts his face up to look at him, and does not realise that his middle finger is being held by Hao Ting.
âWe worked very hard today, and we managed to climb up Yu Shan. Sadly, we were unable to do the climb at night, otherwise Iâll be able to tell you guys directly.â
The man in his arms uses the back of his head to lightly knock against Hao Tingâs chest, the moment especially sweet.
âIn the future we will also continue to climb other mountains, and we will definitely climb up the Himalayas, and at the point where we are closest to the stars, I will ask you both to entrust your son to me. Before that, I have to ask the both of you to be a little more patient. I promise, I will treasure your son and be very good to him.â
âWhat are you saying, so seriousâŚâ Xi Gu laughs at him.
âXi Gu.â
At the call of his name, a solid, round object is secured at the bottom of his middle finger. When Xi Gu finally reacts and raises his hand, he sees that it is a silver ring. No other embellishment or decoration, only a single diamond set in the middle of the band. It is sparkling, and more blinding than any of the stars in the sky at the moment.
âThis ring, is an engagement ring,â and Hao Ting seriously places another ring into his palm, âInside I engraved both our names, and I feel that on a special day like today, we need to commemorate it properly.â
He stresses that this ring isnât very expensive, and is perfect to symbolize the start of their journey together, because he is also afraid that Xi Gu would be troubled that Hao Ting spent too much money on this.
âWhen we finally climb the Himalayas, then itâll become a wedding ring. When that time comes, youâre not allowed to say no, and you can only say âI doâ.â
âXiang Hao TingâŚâ Xi Gu is surprised to the point of speechlessness, and he is clutching onto the ring so tight that it is leaving a mark behind.
He doesnât know whether to scold Hao Ting for spending money like this, or should he say that Hao Ting is truly too meticulous, that he would prepare such a surprise, shocking him to the point of tears.
âWho does it like this!â Xi Gu ends up scolding, his voice a little hoarse.
âI do!â Hao Ting says with no shame.
After, he urges Xi Gu to help him put on his ring, and warmed up from the heat of the hot chocolate, can clearly feel the engraved words on the inside of the ring against their skin.
As he softly calls âXi Guâ, Hao Ting kisses along Xi Guâs face until he reaches his lips. The scent of the sweet and thick hot cocoa becomes stronger, along with their quickening breaths with every kiss. In the end, it is Xi Gu who remembers that they are still outside and situated in the midst of a mountain, so they should both avoid doing anything that would cause their breathing rhythms to falter. Only then do they return from the edge of losing control from their hot kisses.
âWhen itâs time for the wedding ring, itâll be my turn,â Xi Gu says in satisfaction.
He hides himself in Hao Tingâs embrace, and uses his coat to cover his own body, leaving only his head outside, looking just like a little animal afraid of the cold.
âSure, we can choose the style we want together. Sun Bo recommended a store to me, and I picked these thereâŚâ
The both of them continue to chat, and the stars before them sparkle, as if giving their blessings to Hao Ting and Xi Gu who have decided to walk down the rest of their lives together, hand in hand.
[THEME SONG FADES TO A STOP.]
[PHONE BEEP.]
[INT./EXT. OUTSIDE OF LORELEI FOSTERâS HOUSE, DAYTIME.]
[THE SOUND OF A RAVEN CAWING IS HEARD IN THE BACKGROUND.]
AGENT JUNE
Jeez, this place smells like a zoo.
AGENT MAY
I need to introduce the recording. Interview with Lorelei Foster, at her home. Part of Operation Saturn, phase 1.2. Conducted by Agents May and June. Allâ [CUTTING HIMSELF OFF] June, hey, stay in the car!
[AS HE TALKS, AGENT JUNE IS HEARD OPENING THE CAR DOOR AND STARTING TO STEP OUT.]
AGENT JUNE
What? Come on, dude, Iâm getting impatient.
AGENT MAY
Weâll go up to her door in a minute. Thereâs justâI need to ask you something first.
AGENT JUNE
Oh. Why didnât you just say so?
[HE CLIMBS BACK INTO THE CAR, CLOSING THE DOOR. AGENT MAY SIGHS.]
AGENT MAY
[SLIGHTLY NERVOUS] You are aware of the case of Lorelei Foster, correct?
AGENT JUNE
Uh, obviously. She was a part of some coven and they all went missing except for her. She moved to this house way outside of town and refused to show her face.
AGENT MAY
Well, under the naming conventions of Valencia and Wood, the Foundation believes that Lorelei Foster is what is known as a âBeastly.â What she could be capable ofâitâs not something to play around with. Okay? She could be dangerous. Not deadly, per say, but still potentially devastating in her power.
AGENT JUNE
[PANICKED SARCASM] Wow, thatâs super comforting, Agent May.
AGENT MAY
Just donât say or do anything stupid, alright? Also, if when we see her, she looks, you know, different, donât comment on it. Act like you donât even notice.
AGENT JUNE
Thatâs all? Well, donât worry about it, then. Iâve never judged a book by its cover. Iâll just stand there and act as well-behaved as I always do.
AGENT MAY
[UNDER HIS BREATH] Thatâs what I feared.
[THEY BOTH GET OUT OF THE CAR AND WALK UP TO HER FRONT DOOR. IT'S A LOVELY DAY OUTSIDE, WITH BIRDS CHIRPING AS IF NOTHING IS WRONG. AGENT MAY KNOCKS.]
AGENT MAY
Ms. Foster? This is Agents May and June. Weâre with the Harper Foundation. Weâre here to ask you a few questions.
[A RAVEN CAWS AS THERE IS NO RESPONSE.]
AGENT JUNE
Maybe sheâs not home?
AGENT MAY
I donât believe she ever leaves her house. Look at her car. Itâs untouched. Iâm sure she even gets her groceries delivered, somehow.
[HE KNOCKS AGAIN.]
AGENT MAY
We do not wish to harm you or bring you into custody, Ms. Foster. We wonât tell anyone what you are or what youâre doing here. We simply believe you may have some helpful insight on Ether. Just let us ask a few things, and then weâll be out of your way.
[THEREâS A LONG PAUSE.]
AGENT JUNE
Maybe itâs a lost cause. Well, at least we can say we tried. Guess we should justâ
[AS HEâS TALKING, THE DOOR CREAKS OPEN JUST A CRACK.]
LORELEI
You do not plan on taking photographs, do you?
AGENT MAY
Weâre recording this over audio. Nobody will see your face except for the two of us, we promise.
AGENT JUNE
Yeah, donât sweat it. Weâre not gonnaâ[STARTLED] Oh my god!
[AS HE SPEAKS, LORELEI OPENS THE DOOR THE REST OF THE WAY TO REVEAL HER TRUE FORM.]
LORELEI
Is there a problem?
AGENT MAY
Not at all, Ms. Foster. Apologizes for my colleague, he isâ
AGENT JUNE
[NERVOUSLY BLUFFING] I have a fear of new people. Yup. Terrified of âem.
AGENT MAY
[PLAYING ALONG] Itâs tragic, really. Makes our job incredibly difficult.
LORELEI
[SUSPICIOUS] Quite.
[A BEAT.] Well, you said you had questions?
AGENT MAY
That we do. May we come in?
LORELEI
I would advise against it. Terrance is a pacifist when around me, but I am unsure of how he would react to new people.
AGENT JUNE
And who is Terrance, exactly?
LORELEI
A bear. [SADLY] Used to be a friend.
[A BEAR GROWLS IN THE BACKGROUND. AGENT JUNE MAKES A WEAK NOISE OF FEAR.]
LORELEI
I am still unsure whether his calm nature is because he maintained his human consciousness, or if I have some level of control over him that makes him do as I wish. Perhaps a mix of both.
AGENT MAY
Did you make him this way?
LORELEI
That much should be obvious, donât you think? Assuming you really know what youâre talking about, and youâre not just bluffing.
AGENT MAY
We are somewhat familiar with your kind, but weâre always looking to learn more.
LORELEI
[SHE SCOFFS.] Is that what this is? You view me as a learning opportunity? Like a sample dragged in by the biology teacher for lab day?
AGENT MAY
Of course not. Weâre just trying to learn more about Ether.
AGENT JUNE
I am very curious about how you managed to do it, though, if you care to indulge us?
[THEREâS A PAUSE.]
LORELEI
[SOLEMN] I never asked for any of this. When we attempted the ritual, our hope was that by the end of it, all of us would obtain the same level of power. Valencia told me it would never work. I had quite the rebellious streak back then, though. I didnât believe him. Perhaps I should have.
If I had known that all of that power would have been channeled into me, I never would have attempted it. Now that time has passed, I realize how useless of a power it even is. What made Ether decide to curse me with it, Iâll never know. Perhaps we didnât speak clearly enough when we did the ritual.
I had no idea what my limits were, or how to use my abilities. The consequences, of course, were far greater than I could have ever imagined. Terrance and Abigail were both accidents. Clementine, I turned her into a spider in a fit of rage. Scott happened when I was sobbing my eyes out, and he made the mistake of trying to comfort me. I am unsure if I intended to turn him into a snake or not. By the time River was the only one left, they came to me and asked to be turned into a cat. They said they knew I was bound to do it eventually, and they wanted to choose what animal they became. I did as they wished.
[JUST AS SHE SAYS THAT, A RAVEN FLIES OVER AND SQUAWKS. AGENT JUNE STARTLES, YELPING AT THIS.]
LORELEI
[SHE GIVES A DRY CHUCKLE.] I donât think Abigail likes you.
AGENT MAY
You mentioned the consequences were far greater than you could have imagined. Was that in reference to the loss of your friends?
LORELEI
Oh, donât make me say it. It would have been one thing if I simply turned my entire coven into my own little petting zoo. Now, however, I can never escape my own errors, even if I were to leave them all behind. I am forever haunted by the marks my ability has left. The bear paw that has become of my left hand. The raven feathers in my hair. The spider eyes sprawled across my face. The venom that drips from my fangs and burns my lips. And oh, how disappointing having the tail of a cat is, despite how elegant I thought it would be when I was a little girl. Cats used to be my favorite animal. They arenât anymore.
AGENT MAY
Donât you think River would take offense to that?
LORELEI
Hm. Perhaps youâre right.
[A CAT MEOWS FROM INSIDE.]
AGENT MAY
How did you access Etherâs power?
LORELEI
The same way Iâm sure most people have. We did a ritual. Just as most of them do, it went wrong.
AGENT MAY
Do you know where exactly it went wrong?
[A PAUSE.]
LORELEI
Can I be honest with you? I have had years to think long and hard about the events that transpired that night. I read through our plans over, and over again, hoping to find a way to undo it all. After all of that, I came to the conclusion that whatever fault it wasâwhatever slip of the tongue or missing ingredient it could have beenânone of it would have mattered.
Ether chooses who to favor and who to damn by the luck of a draw. Flip of a coin. It knows no order. It will do what it pleases. It is not a person, or a sentient beingâit is a random number generator that can grant unlimited power if you get lucky. Itâs a lottery of stones, however. Nobody is ever really winning, even those as fortunate as the Forget-Me-Nots, or those well-off enough to never hear about Ether at all.
[A PAUSE, THEN] Do you have any other questions? Iâm rather sure my pets are looking forward to their dinner.
AGENT MAY
Just one: where is the heart of Ether?
[A PAUSE.]
LORELEI
I would be careful, if I were you. Iâve heard things, rumors, about your little project. Though I doubt you fully understand the dangers, seeing as youâre just the worker bees, hm?
AGENT MAY
Itâs not my place to question, Iâm afraid.
LORELEI
Perhaps you should. Never does anyone any good, blindly following orders.
[AS THEY TALK, RIVER MEOWS, PURRING AS SHE RUBS AGAINST AGENT JUNE'S LEGS.]
AGENT JUNE
[WHISPERING TO THE CAT] Ahâhey! Go away! Shoo!
AGENT MAY
If you could answer the question, I promise weâll be out of your hair.
LORELEI
Hm. Iâm afraid I canât be of much help. For years, people believed Ether resided in the sky, but that is untrue. Though, during the brief window Valencia was willing to speak to me, he did tell me he had a theoryâ
[AGENT JUNE CUTS HER OFF BY SNEEZING.]
AGENT JUNE
[MUTTERS] Stupid cat!
[RIVER HISSES.]
LORELEI
[OFFENDED] I would appreciate it if you did not insult my animals.
AGENT JUNE
[CONGESTED] Then tell River to leave me the hell alone. Canât you control them, or whatever? At least use your freaky powers toâ
AGENT MAY
[OVERLAPPING] Agent Juneâ!
AGENT JUNE
I just want this damnâ
[THEREâS A TENSE PAUSE AS HE REALIZES LORELEI IS GLARING INTENTLY AT HIM.]
AGENT JUNE
I mean, uh, this lovely cat, to uhâŚIâm so sorry, maâam, this has been incredibly rude of me.
LORELEI
[A BEAT.] What was your name, again?
AGENT JUNE
Juhâuh, Agent June?
LORELEI
Agent June. [SHE SAYS THE NAME WITH DISDAIN.] Agent June, do you have a favorite animal, by chance?
AGENT MAY
[WHISPERING, PANICKED] Donât say anything. Just thank her and letâs go beforeâ
AGENT JUNE
[OVERLAPPING] I donât know. Uh, have you ever heard of Sonic the Hedgehog?
LORELEI
[MIXED WITH CONFUSION AND DISGUST] Sonic. The Hedgehog.
AGENT JUNE
[NERVOUS RAMBLING] Yeah! I was obsessed with those games growing up, and so I went through this whole phase where I wanted a pet hedgehog really bad, but my parents never let me have one. Said I was too irresponsible, or whatever. That dream kinda, like, carried over into my adult life though?
LORELEI
[NODDING] So, hedgehogs.
AGENT JUNE
Um, sure.
LORELEI
I see.
[A PAUSE.]
LORELEI
I do hope youâre happy with that choice, Agent June.
[A HIGH-PITCHED RINGING IS HEARD AS SHE REACHES HER HAND OUT. AGENT JUNE STARTS SPUTTERING IN FEAR.]
[EERIE AND TENSE MUSIC BEGINS TO PLAY.]
AGENT JUNE
[TERRIFIED] What theâ?
AGENT MAY
Shit.
[AGENT MAY IS HEARD PULLING OUT A DART GUN AND SHOOTING A TRANQUILIZER DART AT LORELEI. SHE CRIES OUT A BIT, BEFORE STUMBLING, AND THEN COLLAPSING.]
AGENT JUNE
Did you just tranquilize her?
AGENT MAY
I didnât have a choice. Come on, get in the car. The full effect only lasts forty-five seconds.
[THEY BOTH FRANTICALLY CLIMB INTO THE CAR, SLAMMING THE DOORS AS THEY GET IN.]
AGENT MAY
Are you okay? Did she change you at all?
AGENT JUNE
[HYPERVENTILATING] No, no! But itâthis really weird feeling washed over me, like, like my body was trying to fit into a smaller one, Iâthat was the worst thing Iâve ever felt, oh my god.
AGENT MAY
[ATTEMPTING TO SOOTHE] Agent June, calm down. Youâre safe now, okay?
AGENT JUNE
Yeah, only because of you. You just saved my life. I mean, technically, I would have survived, but I would have had to live out the rest of my days as a hedgehog!
AGENT MAY
[FRUSTRATED] Maybe if you had been able to hold your damn tongue for thirty seconds, this wouldnât have happened.
[AS HE TALKS, AGENT MAY STARTS THE CAR AND SPEEDS AWAY, THE TIRES SQUEALING.]
AGENT JUNE
Iâm sorry I was having an allergic reaction!
AGENT MAY
Thatâs no excuse for you to have said the things you did. I told you to keep it together.
AGENT JUNE
Stop trying to blame all of this on me. I donât care if itâs my fault, I almost just lost my humanity. Do you know how horrifying that was?
AGENT MAY
[HE INHALES SHARPLY.] No, youâre right. Youâre not entirely to blame for what just happened.
If only she had at least finished her sentence about Valenciaâs theory.
AGENT JUNE
[GUILTILY] Yeah, that was pretty poor timing, huh?
AGENT MAY
Weâll find out one way or another. Might have to go back to Irene Gray.
AGENT JUNE
Ah yes, the other enemy weâve made in this town.
AGENT MAY
I guess weâre going to have to find a way to change that, then. [A BEAT.] Turn off the recording, please.
[SOME SHUFFLING AS AGENT JUNE MOVES TO TURN THE RECORDER OFF.]
[PHONE BEEP.]
[RECORDING ENDS.]
[ANOTHER BEEP.]
[EXT. LEMONGRASS PARK, NIGHT.]
[IRENE IS SITTING IN HER CAR. THERE ARE CRICKETS HEARD IN THE BACKGROUND.]
IRENE
Iâm parked in front of Lemongrass Park. To be honest, Iâve never actually been here, even though itâs so close to my house. Itâs small, but itâs a nice park. Thereâs a swing set, a seesaw, one of those metal slides that would always burn my skin during the summer. Some nice trees, too.
[REMINISCING] Do you remember when we would go to the park late at night? It was really stupid of us to go there after dark, honestly, itâs a miracle nothing ever happened. Well, I mean, you did hurt your leg that one time you fell off the swing, which I still feel bad about. It felt so serene, though. Like we were the only people in the world. We were still clinging onto our childhood innocence, and you, you were so fond of that park near your house, and I was so fond of the way you laughed. Youâll love this park, too, I think, if you ever get to see it. You always loved places whereâ
Wait, hold on, I thinkâI think Sadieâs waving at me. Sheâs sitting over on one of the swings. At least, I think itâs her? Not quite what I expected her to look like, but then again, I donât know what I was expecting. Sheâs wearing all black, and has a striped shirt underneath her t-shirt, even though itâs hot as hell. Is this how emo kids dress these days? I think Aden said something about âe-girlsâ or something. [SHE SCOFFS.] Jeez, I need to start keeping track of these things. I feel so old.
Sheâs also wearing a black fabric surgical mask, with a white design? Iâve hardly seen people wear those outside of the medical professionâI mean, there was one time, but that was an outlier. [SHE SAYS THIS PART UNCOMFORTABLY BECAUSE THIS IS REFERRING BACK TO THE FIRST TRAILER.]
It must be her, though. Otherwise, why would she be waving at me? I have the box of film in the passengerâs seat. Avery and I talked today, and they were incredibly vocal about how bad of an idea this was, but they said Iâm an adult and can make my own choices.
Avery isâŚwell. I think they have good intentions at heart. They act indifferent all the time, and theyâre incredibly mature, but they seemâŚI donât know. Sometimes, thereâs this, fear, maybe? That bleeds through when they speak. I think they try to hide it. Reminds me theyâre still, technically, a kid.
Right, I feel kinda awkward sitting here while Sadie is staring at me. Guess I should get this over with.
[IRENE GRABS THE BOX OF FILM AND STEPS OUT OF HER CAR. SHE WALKS TOWARDS SADIE. WHENEVER SADIE TALKS, HER VOICE IS JUST SLIGHTLY MUFFLED.]
SADIE
[FROM AFAR] Irene, right?
IRENE
Yup!
SADIE
Wonderful!
[SADIE WALKS OVER TO IRENE.]
SADIE
Iâll take that.
[SHE'S HEARD TAKING THE CARDBOARD BOX FROM IRENE.]
SADIE
Looks heavy! How many photos did you take?
IRENE
[HANDING THE BOX OFF] Thank you, uh, I didnât take these, though.
SADIE
I see. Thatâs a bummer. I thought Iâd met a person of similar passions.
IRENE
Sorry to disappoint.
SADIE
Donât stress it! Where did you get the film, then?
IRENE
[LYING] Itâs from one of my dead relatives.
SADIE
Mm. Sorry to hear that.
IRENE
It was a while ago, so it's okay.
SADIE
They sure took lots of photos. Do you have any idea what they photographed?
IRENE
No clue.
SADIE
Well, Iâll do my best to get this developed. Iâm staying with my uncle for part of the summer, and he never uses his dark room, so I have it all to myself. You know, he has this massive house, spends lots of money on rooms he never uses every time he gets a new hobby.
IRENE
Odd he chose Daughtler of all places to stick it.
SADIE
You know, thatâs what I said! My professor went green with envy when I told her about it, though. She said this is a perfect town to take pictures.
IRENE
Youâre a student, then?
SADIE
Yup! Majoring in photography, in case that wasnât already clear. [SHE GIGGLES.]
Anyways, Iâll try to get this developed for you as quickly as possible. It may take a while, âcause thereâs so much of it, so would you like me to give it to you in batches?
IRENE
That would be great, yeah. Um, thank you. Are you sure I canât pay you?
SADIE
Oh, please, donât worry about it. Like I said, Iâm just thankful for the opportunity.
So, any other questions for me? Iâm happy to answer them.
IRENE
Um, I have a bit of a weird one.
SADIE
Hm?
IRENE
Why are you wearing a surgical mask? Is it, like, a germ thing, or are you sick?
[THEREâS A PAUSE.]
SADIE
I should go get started on this.
IRENE
Um, you didnâtâ
SADIE
[AGGRESSIVELY CUTTING HER OFF] Pleasure working with you, Irene! Iâll get back to you about your first batch ASAP!
IRENE
[TAKEN ABACK] Oh. Okay, then. Um, bye.
SADIE
Later!
[IRENE WALKS TO HER CAR AND CLIMBS BACK INSIDE. THERE'S A PAUSE.]
IRENE
Well, that was interesting, for lack of a better term. Sadie seems fine? I guess I just got a bit too personal with the mask thing. I mean, if it makes her feel comfortable, I donât see why she canât wear it. Iâll try not to worry about it. As long as she can develop the photos, thatâs what matters.
Though I am kind of worried. I mean, Valencia could have taken, well, suspicious photos, assuming theyâre connected to his research. I have no idea. I guess we just have to hope? Sadie seems pretty okay with minding her own business, it seems, so if Iâm lucky, she wonât question it.
[HER PHONE STARTS VIBRATING.]
IRENE
Oh, hang on. Avery is calling me.
[A BEEP AS SHE ANSWERS.]
IRENE
Hello?
AVERY
Just making sure you didnât get murdered.
[AS AVERY TALKS, THERE IS THE SOUND OF MASHING VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER BUTTONS AND JOYSTICKS.]
IRENE
[SHE SCOFFS.] Well, I didnât. Sadie was fine. You really had nothing to be worried about.
AVERY
[DISTRACTED] I mean, itâs still a really bad idea to be meeting someone in the park this late. Daughtler is a small town, but even if we donât have much of a problem with normal creeps, weird stuff is still kind of the norm, you know?
IRENE
Yeah, Iâve gathered that much, Iâwait, hang on, are you playing video games right now?
AVERY
Dude, itâs just Stardew Valley. Itâs not like Iâm fighting anything.
[A RAVEN CAWS FROM THE GAME.]
IRENE
[AWKWARDLY] I donât know what that is.
AVERY
Thatâs because youâre old.
IRENE
Hey.
AVERY
[OVEREXAGGERATED, FAKE] Ah no, I just got attacked! I gotta hang up, sorry Irene!
IRENE
You just said thereâs noâ
[AVERY HANGS UP.]
IRENE
[DEFEATED] âŚcombat.
[SHE HUFFS.] Talk to you later, I guess.
[PHONE BEEP.]
[RECORDING ENDS.]
[ANOTHER BEEP.]
[INT. THE APARTMENT ABOVE THE OPEN EYES BOOKSTORE, NIGHT. A BUDGIE IS OCCASIONALLY HEARD CHIRPING OR FLAPPING ITS WINGS IN THE BACKGROUND THROUGHOUT THE SCENE.]
[HOLLY IS HEARD SORTING THROUGH A GROCERY BAG AND SETTING THINGS ON THE COUNTER.]
HOLLY
Is it recording?
PHOEBE
Yes, it is.
HOLLY
Cool, cool. I got eggs, by the way. I know you talked about wanting to try to make pie at some point, and you were running low, so.
PHOEBE
[SLIGHTLY OVERLAPPING] Oh, um, thank you! Um, why were you out so late, anyways?
HOLLY
Hm? Oh, just a nighttime stroll.
PHOEBE
[WARY] I see.
[HOLLY WALKS OVER, AND SITS ON THE COUCH NEXT TO PHOEBE.]
HOLLY
Alright, then. You have the next letter? I guess all thatâs left to do is open it.
[THERE'S A PAUSE AS HOLLY HESITATES.]
HOLLY
You sure youâre okay with me being in the room for this? I know her letters to you were, well, personal.
PHOEBE
Itâs okay, donât worry. IâI trust you. Iâm sure Grandma Doe would, too.
HOLLY
[TENDERLY] ThatâŚthat means a lot.
[A BEAT.] Go ahead, then.
[PHOEBE OPENS THE LETTER.]
PHOEBE
Phoebe, If you are reading this, I assume you have successfully completed the ritual. If it was not a success, well, I have a separate envelope marked for you to read. I suggest you find it.
HOLLY
Almost want to read the other one just to see what it says.
PHOEBE
[UNSETTLED] I donât think thatâs a good idea. If the alternative was that bad, well. I donât want to think about what could have happened to me.
HOLLY
Fair, yeah. Continue.
PHOEBE
[SHE CLEARS HER THROAT.] If everything worked as well as I hope, then you have now stepped into your role as a Forget-Me-Not. I could not be more proud of you, little wildflower. What a lovely Forget-Me-Not you will be.
I have already warned you of some of the dangers, but now that this is your reality, I am going to begin to describe it all in more detail in order to prepare you. It is nothing I have not already mentioned in previous letters, however.
Now, let us start from the beginning: why did I name them the Forget-Me-Nots? Valencia thought it to be a rotten name. Too flowery, he said it was, too delicate. I believe it to be a sophisticated name. Better than the Hungry, or whatever other titles heâs come up with.
HOLLY
The hell is the Hungry?
PHOEBE
Um, Iâm not sure. Iâm sure weâll find out?
HOLLY
Letâs hope.
PHOEBE
It goes on: Anyways, I called them the Forget-Me-Nots because it is not just about their quest for new knowledge. It is about the knowledge they already have. Sure, they know where to find any and all information, but what about that which is already within them? A Forget-Me-Not cannot forget anything. Even the tiniest detail, they will cling onto for the rest of their life. I still remember what I ordered at an Italian restaurant twenty-seven years ago. It was some mediocre chicken parmesan. The sauce was a bit too bitter for my taste, but I went back there because they had delightful breadsticks.
However, this is a double-edged sword. It is not just new information you will begin to retain. If only it was that simple. A Forget-Me-Not also remembers all which has happened before. This includes all of your life up to this point, from your early childhood, to more recent events.
When I chose you to be my predecessor, this is what I dreaded most. Your mother and I always considered it to be a blessing in disguise that you did not remember much of your childhood. I know you are aware of what happened, but the specifics are far worse than I think youâve ever processed. I would not wish memories of that horrid time upon anyone, especially you. Your poor mother, my dear Agnes, she lives through them every day.
You may be forced to confront some of the memories of your father. The sick, rotten, vile man he was. I am eternally grateful I was able to save you from some suffering when you were a child, though I am deeply remorseful for all your mother put herself through. I wish I could be there to walk you through it all, to comfort you as you remember, but the circumstances are not in my favor.
You are stronger than you give yourself credit for, however, and you do not have to do it alone. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your mother if you find yourself needing the support. You could also talk to a friendâIâm assuming you have an abundance of those, youâre far too charming and sweet to not have any. Like Iâve said, isolation will only drain you of all you are. Nothing about this process will be easy, but I would not put you through it if I did not believe you could handle it.
Take your work slowly. Do not rush into it. Allow your mind to process theâ
[PHOEBE SUDDENLY STOPS TALKING. THEREâS A LONG PAUSE.]
HOLLY
[A MIX OF CONFUSED AND CONCERNED] Phoebe?
PHOEBE
Iâ [A PAUSE, THEN] Sorry, sorry. Sorry. Itâs just. [SHE TRAILS OFF.]
HOLLY
Is something wrong?
PHOEBE
Thâthe letter, itâs just, um, got me thinking, I guess. About my father.
HOLLY
[CAUTIOUS] How much do you remember of him?
PHOEBE
[SHE GIVES A SHAKY CHUCKLE.] Oh, Iâm trying to avoid that train of thought. Iâm scared it will all come flowing in at once.
HOLLY
Oh, right, yeah. Try not to focus too much on it, okay?
PHOEBE
No, Iâm okay, I justâI remember bits of it. More vividly, now, than I did before.
[WHAT FOLLOWS IS THE AFOREMENTIONED DESCRIPTION OF CHILD ABUSE. VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.]
PHOEBE
Have you seen the stuffed cow sitting on my bed? Itâs so old and worn, but itâs one of the most precious things I own. Its name is Baby. Itâs, um, a silly name, I know. I used to play pretend with it, though, and act like I was its mother. I cradled it, pretended to feed it. So I named it Baby. [A BEAT, THEN] I didnât remember why I named it that until now.
My dad hated Baby, though. He hated that I was so attached to a stuffed cow, of all things. He would constantly use Baby to threaten me, holding his ability to take it away over my head, because he knew that was a quick way to make me upset. If it was his choice, Iâm sure he would have destroyed it. Not sure why he never did.
One day, when he was in a bad mood, and my mom was at work, I hid Baby inside my closet. He stormed into my room, and demanded for me to give it to him. I lied and said I had no idea where Baby was, but of course he didnât believe me. He tore through my room, ignoring my pleas for him to stop, until he found Baby and took it away. I was forced to clean up the mess he made before my mom got home.
When she did get home, I instantly went and hugged her legs tightly and sobbed. I told her that Daddy had taken Baby away, and ruined my room. She asked me to take her to my room, so I did, only to find Baby sitting on the bed, staring right back at me.
My dad came in. âOf course I didnât take the stupid toy,â he said. âShe probably just misplaced it.â My mom didnât argue. I was outraged. How could she believe him? Looking back, however, she knew something was wrong. I know she did. Even as a kid, I could read it on her face. He didnât give her a choice, though.
[A BEAT.] He let me keep Baby, at least. Though he warned me not to try to tell mom what he did ever again. Otherwise, he would be very upset with me.
[A WET CHUCKLE.] And I didnât even face the worst of it. I would spend days, weeks even, here with Grandma Doe when my dad was especially bad. Thatâs why her and I were so close, and why I didnât remember so much of what my dad did. My mom had to endure most of it, though. That is, until she was finally able to get a divorce. He was arrested for a few years, I never learned what for, but I hope it was for the right reasons. When he got out, my mom got a restraining order against him.
The last time I saw him was my eighth birthday. He didnât get me anything.
[THERE'S A LONG PAUSE.]
HOLLY
Iâm going to kill him.
PHOEBE
[NERVOUS CHUCKLE] IâI appreciate you caring, butâ
HOLLY
[A BIT TOO ANGRY] No. I mean it. If heâs still alive, Iâll kill him.
PHOEBE
[SLIGHTLY STARTLED] I donât know if heâs still alive. I mean, itâs not like Iâve made an effort to reach out to him, heh.
HOLLY
[A PAUSE, THEN, SINCERE AND EMOTIONAL] Iâm so sorry.
PHOEBE
ItâItâs okay! Really. I promise. It was a long time ago. Itâs justâŚIâm not sure how much Iâm going to remember. As time goes on. I mean, Iâm sure I would have been forced to confront my childhood eventually, this is just kind of speeding up the process.
HOLLY
You can always come to me, you know. If it gets to be too much.
PHOEBE
Iâll keep that in mind. Thank you, Holly. Really.
HOLLY
Of course. Anything I can do. [A PAUSE.] Would a hug be okay?
PHOEBE
[SHE TAKES A SHAKY BREATH.] A hug would be nice.
[THERE ARE FABRIC RUSTLES AS THEY ARE HEARD EMBRACING.]
[PHONE BEEP.]
[RECORDING ENDS.]
