Also, one thing i was thinking about the other day was yk in the one overtime vid where the question was who they text the most and azzi says paige and then she also says “one of my best friends colleen”… now this is likely a bit of a stretch cos azzi prolly didn’t really mean much by it but yk lemme cook… it’s just interesting to me the way she worded that instead of saying maybe “another one of my best friends, colleen” since she’d already said paige. Does that make sense?

Also, is it just me or does it feel like they’ve steered kinda clear of referring to each other as “best friends” for a while - and no before the “paige hates azzi” crowd starts making some noise - i more mean it in the sense that maybe that’s not the word they really wanna use to describe themselves anymore knowing they’re way more than that. You asked about first Shourtney shipping moments. This is gonna be a long answer but hopefully it's an interesting read.

I started my Smosh journey with Games videos from 2022-2023 and immediately sensed that Shayne and Courtney have an interesting bond. Initially, I thought that Shayne was secretly crushing on Courtney (but tried to keep things professional) whereas Courtney was acting flirty with everyone. I also noted that they would be cute together but didn't think too much of it.

It was actually the comment sections that made me more interested in their dynamic since fans had so many different views of them. Many commented on their "sibling energy" or admired their friendship but some were convinced that they were not in good terms anymore. And obv there were a lot of shipping comments as well but those were often ridiculed or viewed negatively. As a new fan, I felt confused 'cause I've never encountered so many contradicting descriptions of an onscreen duo. I also found it weird how some fans were trying to deny any romantic tension between them when it seemed pretty clear to me that they were not acting 100 % platonic with each other.

So I'd say that I became interested in their dynamic almost right away but it was Shayne Interviews His Exes (nro 1) where I became much more sceptical that they would be just friends. Shayne seemed weirdly shy when Courtney walked in, and Courtney had a very loving gaze when they played the "shouting" audio and Shayne was cry laughing. It just didn't seem like normal friend behavior to me.

Also, Courtney basically buried Shayne's head in her boobs which like... idk. At that point it seemed like something other Smosh members wouldn't do to each other. (My views have changed a bit once I started to know Amanda and Chance better...)

A long-winded answer but I don't know how to explain this more shortly! It was more of a process than an immediate thought to me.

Don’t worry about sending long asks in, I enjoy reading all of them and this one especially. Aside from 2019, I think 2022-23 had some of the most interesting yet very telling shourtney moments imo. Shippers have gotten a lot of flak/criticism in the past and some even now, there were so many people who really believed we ruined Courtney and Shayne’s friendship. Meanwhile, they were dating/engaged most of the time that was being said. I’ve also seen a bit of people say that since Courtney was considering leaving smosh at one point, her and Shayne started letting loose more in videos and presumably when she finally decided to stay, they cut back a bit. I guess they thought that bc if Courtney actually left, they wouldn’t have to deal with the pressures of being public while still being in videos together.

You also said that you started noticing a shift in the Shayne’s exes, don’t forget Keith switched his wig around and mentioned that Shayne liked blondes better. When I first watched that video, my mind couldn’t not think of Courtney, especially because her character was in the next clip I think. I feel like you’re the first person I’ve seen actually say that was the video that made you a shipper. I don’t think I have seen anyone say/write that before.

But yeah, all the people that said Shayne and Courtney have sibling energy, I wonder where they are now. This may be a controversial take but a part of me feels like calling two friends sibling like is a little weirder than shipping. Of course it depends on the duo and what they’re comfortable w/ but I think Courtney has said she feels weirded out by that and not shipping (as long as it’s boundary respecting).

Please don’t spare your 5k essay on why you think Arthur thinks he doesn’t have a chance with Eames!! I Wanna know your thoughts on this!! Because I think it’s a combination of elements. Firstly I think initially Arthur truly believes Eames doesn’t like him. They’re too different. Arthur is everything Eames isn’t & vice versa. & even tho the saying goes “opposites

2/? attract”.. sometimes you just clash & that’s that.. I think at first he also mistakes Eames playfulness, his snark, quips & attempts at riling Arthur up as genuine condescension & disdain. I also read once in a fic where Arthur made a comment about how nobody likes the pointman cos at the end of the day it’s his job to pick apart everybody else’s work & point out the weaknesses. So the idea that a guy like Eames, who as a forger has one of the most creative/artistic roles in dreamshare. --- 3/3 would be interested in a guy whose role often involves probably telling people to tone it down... yeah. Not gonna happen. & then I think there’s that fear of mixing business with pleasure. The idea of ruining such a great working partnership by bringing something as messy as FEELINGS into it? I think that’s something that would make Arthur not even entertain the idea of ever having anything more with Eames because how could he ever risk losing Eames as a work partner?

Aha, are you ready? Obvs these are all just my headcanons, and that the beauty of inception is that the characters can be who we want them to be, all interpretations are valid, etc etc...

So, with Arthur and why I think he thinks doesn't have a chance with Eames. You're right that it's a combination of elements:

I think, at his core, Arthur like, all of us, carries some kind of emotional bruising when it comes to loving and being loved. And like, all of us, Arthur does not think he's perfect. He has self-perceived flaws. Every single one of us, as human beings, has insecurities - even Arthur. I think he uses all of the surface, logical, 'rational' arguments like not wanting to mix business and pleasure to justify not actually addressing these hurts and insecurities.

You know my personal headcanon for Arthur, generally speaking canonically, is that he did not come from money. He grew up poor with a parent that wasn't, say, well enough to be there for him the way a child would need. That he was the caretaker in the household most of the time.

And, bear with me here, on Arthur caring about his looks - Arthur is buttoned up to all hell not because of vanity, but because of how he will be perceived--- he wears his suits less like armour and more like a weapon. Arthur, to me, is scrappy, not defensive.

But despite how he presents himself, deep down Arthur still is that fourteen year old version of himself, the one that lashed out everyone Eventually, he learned to control that anger, the one that showed everyone else where he was wounded -- but he never addressed the ways he was hurt, or the parts of him that has always been deeply lonely. As an adult he isn't keen on loving anyone else because it's always been a one-way transaction. He does not know how to interpret loving someone and being loved in return. For him, what does that even look like? Arthur doesn't want to love anyone because he's never received the same output of love he gives out. And maybe he thinks something is wrong with him, for feeling affection the way he does and never truly getting it back in kind - platonic, familial or romantic.

So he wears his weaponry to keep people from getting too close to touch, figuratively speaking. And maybe Eames takes him on face value for a beat too long.

While I don't really consider Arthur and Eames to be opposites, I do think they are flip sides of the same coin. They share a basic foundation, beliefs, ethics - but can also clash where they combine. It's like when you just... get someone on a basic level, like you share a frequency without needing years of getting to know them. Like when you meet someone and you just know you must have known each other in a past life. Arthur thinks that this weird, antagonistic thing he has with Eames is something different, isn't it? Except, it isn't. It's just love, baby.

Arthur feels it, with Eames. That 'something'. Over time it develops into a feeling that is both thrum and quiet. Like his whole body is vibrating but also completely still just by being near him, thinking about him.

But, at least initially, Arthur is just too... wary to place his money on it, that feeling. It's never provided dividends before.

Which isn't to say that Eames is the one to show Arthur he is 'worth loving', or anything like that. I believe that Arthur comes to that realisation all by himself - realistically, they're both still young and young enough to be insecure at the time of the film. Late 20's, 30s? Babies, in the grand scheme of adulthood. They are only just consolidating out who they are, really. But Arthur, at some point, realizes its okay to put his sword down and be loved in a different way from those who'd said they'd loved him before. To have someone take care of him, to run point for him. He gets better at reading love languages.

And I think, to address Arthurs own insecurities -- we all also have that kind of rose-tinted view of the ones we love while thinking we are plain and unremarkable - we look at them and go fuck, you are amazing, you are incredible, you can do anything and you don't even know it, how do you not know how powerful you are?? --- that's part of it too. Maybe he looks at Eames, Cobb and Mal and thinks just that. Maybe he wonders in what world would Eames ever look at him the same way? Maybe he does underestimate his own power and he takes it all too seriously and to heart when he's not perfect. Maybe he can't look past his own fuck ups in life and in work that it truly clouds his perception of himself and his compatibility with others.

That, I think, are the basic fears Arthur has. It's like inception, right, these 'simplest version of ideas' manifest in more convoluted ones. Those fears get translated and articulated into very simple 'reasonable' arguments he hoodwinks himself with so he never has to face his own vulnerability: it would never work out. I don't like the way he does x, y, z. He is so annoying. He doesn't even like me like that. It'd be bad for business. It's not worth the risk. We're here to work.

So I think Arthur leaves his attraction to Eames like a mailbox slowly accumulating with more and more junk mail. He'll clean it out some day, pushed aside in his own mind, left unattended by him for a long time without realizing the pile is growing. On this, some of my fave fics are the ones where Arthur has this sort of... comically misbehaving subconscious because of his ignored affection for Eames. The ones where there are errant projections who fawn over Eames, or the ones where his subconscious is literally incapable of hurting him. I think Arthur is not.. repressed... as an individual, but the feelings he has for Eames are so large and encompassing and that he's tried to fit it into too small of a box, and that box is spilling out at the sides. What he feels cannot be contained or disposed of. He would be that kind of hot mess.

But, Arthur, you darling fool. The feeling is mutual.

pretty obvious that i wish seblaine got together but beyond that i wish they became friends again at any point in the show. i know because of the timing between flash and later seasons of the show + the overwhelming love of klaine, seblaine both platonically and/or romantically didn’t really stand a chance but i feel like they could’ve at least hinted at a reunion between the two.

I actually LOVE Evelyn and Caleb comparisons in Hunter ships, but they have to be well written and natural. It would be one thing if h/l shippers were like, writing fics where they actually built up to a situation where a comparison between Evelyn and Willow made sense, but it seems like they’d rather just pretend “uh Willow and Evelyn are so similar because uh… they’re both witches, and also girls?”

Oh, yeah, you're preaching to the choir here. I absolutely ADORE Caleb and Evelyn comparisons for Hunter ships, especially because Cat and Hunter are MAJOR comparisons to their predecessors with Hunter being Caleb's Grimwalker (obv), but technically still sort of a witch while Cat is a Clawthorne (by adoption like Luz), but is technically still sort of a human. Add in the flavor text that Philip idolizes her to the point of almost making her out to be Saint-like due to the fact that she's a hunter and is "ridding the human realm of demons and witches and evils" just like he tried to do back in his time & is doing presently in the Boiling Isles, only for him to find out she's Just Like Evelyn, still a wild witch a la Luz, and has stolen his "brother" away yet again. It's just like Belos' life is a series of going "Oh God dammit, not again how does this keep happening" lmao. But that is a good comparison. I would even go so far as to say Hunter and Luz (platonically, I Do Not Ship like that) are a really good Evelyn and Caleb comparison for the exact same reason (minus the flavor text lmao).

But my own life aside, that is literally what they're doing. I once saw someone say a H/l tried to make a Willow & Evelyn comparison based on Willow's Halloween costume & the fact that in Masha's story the cut-out of Evelyn has a demon tail and classic witch outfit despite that being a nasty and untrue caricature of her in the first place, meant to look insulting to Evelyn lmfao. The most they've got is being witches and girls. I know we don't know anything really about Evelyn's personality other than being in love with Caleb and being a wild witch, but I'd wager to say she was probably a lot like Eda considering that's what the half a second shot of her design most resembled & the fact that Belos hunted Eda down so hard and disposed of Lilith once he'd gotten her & had her set to be petrified. It's almost like he wanted her dead just based on the fact that she reminded him of Evelyn.

(I'm just picturing everyone at a party at Ramshackle or something. Obvs, everyone's at least old enough to drink in my writing and AUs. If no one will make Disney stuff for my demographic that isn't Marvel or other superhero stuff, I will)

This one happened when I got drunk at an arcade bar and a guy played games with our group, and I proceeded to say I loved him a lot for some reason

- If I'm too drunk to vocalize that moving me causes nausea, I have bitten people to try and get them to stop moving me because the world is spinning and I might hurl. So, yeah. Biting people while drunk, lmao         - Anyone's a canidate really, but I'm picturing Floyd or Jade dealing with this. Maybe Jack or Leona (Though he'd probably just drop Syn). This was mostly a problem my first couple years of being able to legally drink cause I didn't know my limits very well. Still don't, especially if it's mixed drinks, but it's only happened three times

- Would definitely compliment everyone at least once. Would probably get into a compliment loop with Kalim where they kiss the top of his forehead or his nose at the end

- More physically inclined, i.e. Huggy, hand-holding, etc. Floyd probably fucking loves it         - Would still respect boundaries if someone's not comfortable with something/find someone else who will let them hold their hand/play with their fingers. - I feel like Ace/Deuce and Syn would get into drunken roughhousing because sometimes I'll playfully slap my friends arms/legs while drunk, and they definitely feel like the type to reciprocate

- Would definitely coo and tease if they saw that they flustered someone, but will playfully back down if the person is actually uncomfortable with it

- Hugs and platonic kisses for everyone. The longer they've known someone, the more affectionate, so Ace and Deuce probably get the nuzzling and kisses on the cheek/neck treatment. Maybe someone gets jealous, maybe they don't

- It's Kalim. Kalim would also want hugs and kisses because he's a human Golden Retriever and just loves love, he's not actually jealous, lmao

- Soft kiss on the top of everyone's head. If they're taller than Syn (almost everyone), they'll wait until the person is sitting or will ask them to bend down

- Will just find a spot to pass out in once their body says 'Nah, fam', even if it's just at a table with their forearms as pillows

I do kinda get those vibes from fugonara too if I look at it from the canon side of things lolz. It’s kinda like a natural attraction? Like magnets. But their attraction could be anything, really. They’re just shackled to each other by the fate the universe chose for them, and it doesn’t even have to be romantic. They just stumbled upon each other and stuck together.

and yes! I totally love that too :3! A lot of people think ship is strictly romantic oftentimes, but it’s rlly just ab relationships, and relationships can be literally any tie and connection between one and multiple characters. I like analyzing characters and how they interact w others a lot, and how this influences the image of their relationship. tbh I like most ships as long as it’s not problematic or I find them weird/that they don’t have much chemistry. I also don’t mind poly or platonic ships (duh). I’d be sitting here all day yapping ab the ships I like/am okay w bc frankly it doesn’t have to strictly be character A X character B, I think it could also be character A X character C, etc. as long as it’s not any wrong. I won’t be going apeshit(/neg) over ships that I don’t like as much or have like a 2 year age gap. I mean, I think it starts to get weird when there’s 4 years of difference. I think people do too much when they hate on less popular ships smh if it’s nothing weird then let ppl have fun w their little kitty witties smh 😞

Some ships I like tho r a lot of Ghibli movie couples in general bc they’re just super cute and I love the writing Ghibli does for its characters (I want what they have.). I also like Yukito/Yue X Touya and Syaoran X Sakura from CCS but that doesn’t mean I don’t also like Tomoko X Sakura (pretty sure Tomoko implied to like her anyway). I also like some other side ships from CCS but I barely remember their names bc it’s been so long since I’ve watched it and Netflix took it down 💔. CCS ships r cute in general I think, I’ve never seen any problematic ship (except that one girl X her fucking teacher. Pookie. You’re like 13. Don’t date ur teacher. And she was so pretty too bro why did they make her a questionable character 😭). And now. Getting to jjba my beloved. Since I unfortunately focus so so so much on p5 those are the only ships I’ll yap ab 😢. Huge honorable mention to Jonathan X Erina (jonaeri) tho they’re super cute together even if a lot of ppl said they barely have screen time and stuff :3. Anyway. Part 5. I honestly don’t care much about ships in la squadra as long as they had some form of interaction y’know (I don’t pay too much attention to La squadra anyway 💔). Usually ppl get really divided when it comes to Bucci gang ships tho. Honestly I’d rather see them all as a friend group that see each other as siblings to avoid all that shipping, but I admit I really like some pairings, like fugonara, bruabba, giotrish, futrish, naratrish, etc. I really don’t mind it that much (I don’t rlly ship mista w anyone bc I just don’t think there’s anybody matching his freak 😭). I mainly ship fugonara as you can see just bc to me it makes a lot of sense even if I also see them under platonic light. If there’s fugo, there’s narancia, and if there’s narancia, there’s fugo. I just find that rlly cute :3. I also like their backstories and how they tie together and the narancia death scene ripped my heart out in the anime so (IM CRYING AGAIN JUST FROM THINKING AB IT STOP 💔). Again that doesn’t mean I dislike the other ships, I just don’t pay much attention to them or think they had as much chemistry or time together. I love seeing my fave characters tho, so it’s not like I won’t like the content if there’s like gionara or something. Honestly I like seeing ppl have fun w their cutie patooties as long as it’s not too controversial, once again. It’s rlly a shame that ppl can jump at each others throat bc they disagree on a mere ship. It’s literally not gonna alter your life.
