Could I request L x reader who bakes? One part of my love language is gift giving but specifically giving people things I bake. This can range from cookies baked using pre-made dough to completely homemade by scratch baklava!
Anon I am foaming at the mouth. Was literally about to write something like this <3
(also I bake too so LOL—)
~*~*~*
Content: GN reader
Warnings: none
Notes: PURE FLUFF AS AN APOLOGY FOR MY LAST POST IM SORRY also I’m on my phone which is why my format probably looks a little weird

Hehehe
Okay. So. First things first
This is how you’d get closer to L. Y’know the saying, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach?” That is entirely true with L.
If you’re baking during the Kira case, I can definitely see Matsuda coming to find you and trying to steal a cookie or two and you gotta smack his hand away
Definitely helps Watari out, too. Watari doesn’t need to spend as much money on sweets or time baking anymore with you around
L gets all happy when he sees you bringing him a plate of cake, and gets even happier when he can feel the plate is a little warm, spotting the steam rising from the slice of the cake.
L loves when YOU take care of his sweet tooth. He’s always wanting you to make something
If he’s not working and you’re baking, he’s gonna come up behind you and hug you until the stuff is ready to eat
If you learn to make chocolate bars and lollipops or whatever, stuff Watari usually just buys at a store, he’s gonna propose to you right there
L hates when you give your baking to anyone else, especially if that “anyone” is Light, Misa or Matsuda. He’s actually kind of okay with sharing the desserts with Watari, Soichiro and Mogi though, but he’d prefer to keep it for himself
If you’re with him before the Kira case, and before Matt and Mello ran off, the kids’ll want you to make stuff for them too
L doesn’t like sharing desserts with them too, but they’re just kids so he’s forced to be quiet about it
His sons end up liking you more than him (Mello especially) and L is all like :/ what the fuck that’s my S/O
Watari will be your taste tester. Usually loves helping you as well. Will also try to help you in forcing L and the kids to eat actual meals (Matt and Near have less of a problem with separating from sweets, whereas Mello and L practically fight you both on it)
L will also love if you get like, cupcake flavored chapstick or any kind of sweet perfume. Cuddling and kissing are about to become a constant if you do that
L will start to call you “my little baker” and “cupcake” and “muffin.” Also, instead of calling you the light of his life, he calls you “the slice of my cake” ???
He thinks it makes sense but it doesn’t
When you gift him sweets, he may cry later about it. Obviously in the moment he wont, but later when he’s thinking about it he will
L is used to people not wanting to be around him, much less give things to him. Yeah he’s got “sons” and Watari acts like a father, but his sons don’t exactly interact with him and two of them grow to detest him. L, in reality, is a very lonely man
So for you to give him something, sweets especially, made his heart swell so much
It doesn’t matter how long you two are together. Every time you give him something, it makes him want to cry later.
He really savors the gifted sweets, eating them slower than usual. He really wants to cherish the moment
It also, strangely, makes him a lot sleepier. So once he’s done eating your gifted sweets, he’ll lean against you and fall asleep
If you gift them while he’s working on the Kira case, the Task Force are all going to be horrified at the little smile L has on his face
Its to the point that Aizawa will fucking hunt you down to make L sweets and gift them to him if L’s been in a bad mood
“I’ll even go buy the wrapping paper right now, just— please, Ryuzaki is verbally beating the shit out of Mastuda and it’s even making me wince.”
L will get upset if you comfort Matsuda while he eats the sweets you gifted him. Matsuda is fucking crying in the corner and you’re hugging him, and L is thinking fucking Matsuda…>:(while eating a cookie you gifted him
Overall this little froggy man LOVES your baking, even if its a flavor he doesn’t particularly like or if its a little burnt. It just makes him really happy knowing that you care so much for him <3

· you and ryuzaki have been friends since wammy's house- even though he literally never addressed you as a friend until you referred to him as your own friend. ryuzaki found himself drawn to your unique charisma and your exceptionally strong thinking and reasoning skills. you were also a quite energetic person (although not necessarily outgoing and definitely not airheaded) and ryuzaki secretly enjoys having someone like you to counter his perpetually blank demeanor.
· after you both left wammy's house and saw less and less of each other, what with ryuzaki hiding beneath the name l and you taking on pretty much whatever task came up, you guys still kept in contact- and it wasn't anything awkward like most people would assume of l. because you two are far more intelligent than most, you often found yourselves in environments filled with people nowhere near as smart as you both- which led to some serious understimulation. so the only resort is to talk to one another via text messages, on burner phones obviously. your texts are very chaotic- mostly consists of you and him going back and forth like:
y/n: holy shit the people here are idiots
ryuzaki: I wouldn't put it so crudely, but I find myself lacking mental stimulation as well- as usual.
y/n: when will you be back in town??????
ryuzaki: Soon. I'll return once I've solved this case- I'm very close. It shouldn't be long.
y/n: please hurry please come save me
ryuzaki: You're very melodramatic. I'm sure you'll be alright for a little while longer.
y/n: shut up im dying here okay come back rn
ryuzaki: Not until my work is done. And you're only proving my point.
·yeah so
· when you are together, you work very well with one another- for the most part.
· probably you're spinning ryuzaki around in his chair like crazy while he struggles to not choke on the candies he definitely has stuffed in his mouth
· he looks like a chipmunk
· you also try and imitate the way l sits very often for whatever reason. he'll literally just blink at you for a few seconds and then make another move to see if you'll mimic that, too. it's like he's a little kid around you
· you definitely have to fight l to get him to go to bed. and take a shower in his little human washing machine thing. and to actually eat nutritious food. and to do anything else that actual humans do.
· if you miraculously manage to get L into bed, 99 percent of the time he'll just slip right back out. he will just keep this up like a petulant child until you give up
· you and l are always doing stupid stuff when you're not doing serious stuff. it's definitely you who always intiates it and I constantly trying to get you to cut it out. in the end, he'll probably give in to you though😭
· outside of professional situations, you two pester watari a lot just for shits and giggles. he literally just stands there like 😑
· watari sometimes lets you guys come into the kitchen with him where he makes I's treats. he will even let you guys try and make some yourselves- but being socially reclusive sociopathic introverts, that pretty much never goes well. everything in sight is covered in chocolate, cream, icing, caramel, ice cream- you name it, it's all over the walls and your clothes like a couple of toddlers.
· one thing you have in common is ego. you two have absolutely teamed up during investigations just to act all smart and big-brained, throwing around big words and stuff, just to subtly make your colleagues feel inferior to you. power trippers😭
· bad renditions of shakespeare all night
· tennis and sparring matches whenever you guys get free time, you always both beat the crap out of each other and there's almost never a clear winner for either activity
· yes, you do get to act as "L" at times- but at other times, l has to wrestle you from his computer because you keep wanting to impersonate him solely for the feeling of authority💀
· you watch over his shoulder while I plays that "u are offline" game with the dinosaur
· l simply refuses to stand up straight. you've used force. he just won't move?????
· unlike sports, you hate board games with him because he wins 24/7

Meet you under the sun
Author: @lightlessons For: @danthegeek Pairings/Characters: Light Yagami/L Lawliet, Misa Amane, Kiyomi Takada. Rating/Warnings: M. Mature language, Swear words, Alcohol consumption.  Prompt: AU Light is a popular Collage Student and invited to a beach party. He is having a lot of fun, is flirty and arrogant as we know him. He is dancing with Misa, who is not his girlfriend but has a crush on him. Then, L joins the party, somebody brought him along. He is chilling awkwardly by the buffet when Light takes notice of him and joins him at the buffet. He has seen him before a couple times on the campus, but never talked to him. What happens next is up to you…
Author’s notes: I bent the specifics a bit in that I had Light talk to L  just a bit after seeing him instead of immediately, because i felt it fit the pacing I had better. Hope it’s still okay though :-)
—————————–
“Don’t tell me you’re a Beach Volleyball junior champion too,” Takada joked after Light obliterated (yet again) a team of what appeared to be sociology majors, or something equally pointless, she had that small, half-hearted smile that was so characteristic of hers but with the slight frown of someone who isn’t used to being impressed.
Light laughed humbly.
“I’m not. Maybe my experience with tennis helps somewhat? But I’ve really never played it before.”
His classmate sighed, and Light thought that being constantly made aware of his numerous skills had to be tiring for her. “You must be just naturally talented then,” she supposed as she fixed her hair behind her ear in a strange bashful gesture that must mean she was finally surrendering over to Light’s natural charm, as one would expect.
“Or those two are just awful,” Light smirked conspiratorially.
The young bourgeois laughed, which was what Light was hoping to achieve. Takada always enjoyed laughing at other people’s expense.
Light wasn’t much of a fan of the beach. There was too much sand getting into bad places and too many people acting as if the transition from monkey to hominid had never been made. Too much noise and too much sun and too many girls asking him to slather them with sun blocker, as if he’d pop a boner over touching their skinny naked backs. But, if there was something he’d learned from a very young age was the importance of having good public relations, and so when Kiyomi Takada had invited him to an exclusive beach party, he knew he wouldn’t say no to the daughter of the Sankei Newspaper’s owner. He’d gone into To-Doh not just looking for a quality education after all but in the hope of forming good connections too.
And this party, filled with Tokyo’s most important youth, was a perfect opportunity to start rubbing shoulders. Light was young and attractive and athletic, perfectly composed to be like a bug zapper for these kinds of things.
Plus, the lively music and the three margaritas he’d already had were kinda getting to him.
“LIIIIIIIIGHT!!!” A familiar voice suddenly screeched from somewhere behind him.
Oh dear God.
Five feet of blond supermodel darted towards him through the small crowd of spectators that had formed for the match. Misa Amane, bimbo extraordinaire, had finally shown up to the party in all her unbridled glory.
“Oh, that was so cool! You’re always so cool, Light,” she proclaimed with shiny eyes while all the other men around and some of the women ogled her in her small two-piece red bikini with a blackthorns and vines pattern, as characteristic of the gothic style she favored.
Now, Light didn’t dislike Misa. She was cute in a very whiny-cat kind of way. Sort of endearing at first but jarring as the volume increased and the minutes went on. The first time they met she’d claimed she felt a cosmological affinity towards him or some such bullshit and then proceeded to interrogate him for his zodiac, moon, and rising sign, whatever the hell that meant–he hadn’t been paying attention. She was useful, though, in that she was somewhat famous and happily willing to do him any favors, or connect him with any of her large contact lists, even when he’d already been clear about not being interested in any non-friendly relation with her (using the hardships that came to celebrities’ partners as an excuse), he was a gentleman, after all, and he wouldn’t toy with a woman’s feelings.
“Hey Misa,” Light gave her an easy smile that would hopefully settle her for the rest of the day.
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere for the past week! Where have you been hiding? Not with Kiyomi, I hope!”
Takada at his side made an affronted sound that seemed to choke on the way up her throat.
“Behave, Misa. I’ve told you I’m not your property,” Light belittled her with only mild sternness.
Misa shook her head enthusiastically.
“Misa is only teasing, Light! She promises! Besides, Kiyomi and I have started getting along since Spanish class. Haven’t we, Kiyomi?"
Kiyomi seemed startled for a moment, as if she didn’t expect Misa to call her out like that, but recovered quickly to settle her face into her usual cold mask of indifference.
“I suppose so.”
“Aw, don’t be like that. We even planned a fake trip to Playa del Carmen together! Oh, Light, you should join us!”
“I’m taking Korean.”
“Not in class, silly, on the trip!”
"Right… then I happen to be busy around that time of year,” he joked, throwing a smirk at Takada and earning the most formal of snorts he’d heard.
"Miss Amane does have a fondness for fantasizing,” Takada replied instead, like a ready viper waiting for the perfect moment to strike at her victims. Oh, there’s no need to be mean with her, Kiyomi.
The implications seemed to get lost on the blonde, however.
“Pfft, you’re no fun. I’ll borrow him for a bit, Kiyomi. Clearly he needs a little loosening up, and you’re not exactly a party animal, are you?”
Before Kiyomi could reply Misa had already taken Light’s arm and dragged him to the bar for more drinks. Light had to admit, the cocktails options were impressive, and he sort of wanted to try everything on the menu, but in the end, following the beach spirit, he and Misa both ordered a piña colada, and while usually, he wasn’t a fan of too much sweet in his alcohol, the fresh taste felt like a blessing under the hot summer sun, enough that soon he found himself chatting amicably with Misa and even had to catch himself from -dear God- giggling at something she said.
Such was his mildly buzzed state when a sight at the corner of his eyes caught his attention. Turning around, he understood why. A black-haired man was standing under a palm tree and sipping at his own colada, with his back very badly curved in an awful posture and huge eyes fixed somewhere on the sand. Weirdly enough, he was wearing jeans to the beach with only a loose tank top to combat the scorching weather, and still, his wild mop of hair was the most recognizable part of him, which was in itself something, as Light had never in his life seen someone more particular. He’d seen the other boy around campus a handful of times before, but there had never been an opportunity for him to approach him, even though Light had always felt an inexplicably strong pull for him to ask him about his name.
Misa loudly calling his name made him realize he’d been staring.
“Misa, do you know who that is?”
Misa squinted in the direction of Light’s eyes, face lighting up with recognition.
“Of course! That’s Ryuzaki! He’s actually the inheritor of Wammy’s Co. But not many people know about that,” the model smirked like she was telling the juiciest gossip. “People like Takada probably think he sticks out like a sore thumb around here. But the truth is, he’s got more money than any of us combined.” Light’s ears perked up at that. “He’s also one of the smartest people you’ll ever meet, and I’ve met you, Light. I don’t know who invited him, though. Let’s ask him! Hey, Ryuzaki!!"
The odd student turned around towards the voice calling him and tilted his head to the side in silent interrogation.
The boy’s assemblage of quirks brought a smile to his face. He hadn’t allowed himself to think it before, but he had always thought the student was rather cute even with how little he knew of him.
“Who invited you?!”
Light winced and glared at Misa for how carelessly she had posed such a question, but Ryuzaki didn’t seem the least bit faced and instead cupped a hand near his mouth like a mock-megaphone and shouted: “I just came for the desserts!” with a wide-eyed expression that gave no indication whatsoever of if he was teasing or not.
Misa laughed like she’d heard the best joke ever and Light just blinked in the boy’s direction.
“Isn’t he a blast?” She hollered as Ryuzaki’s eyes met his.
It was hard for Light to describe those few seconds, but for one single moment, the strings holding his soul together seemed to vibrate at a different tune than they’d played previously. He was unsure if he shivered, but he had to break the eye contact like some damned school girl to pull himself back together.
Why did his face feel warm all of a sudden?
"Ooh, I love this song! Let’s dance, Light!” Misa interrupted his thoughts again with a squeal.
“Uhh, sure, yeah…"
×~°~×~°~×~°~×~°~×
Dancing was decidedly not as fun unless you had a certain amount of alcohol in your body. Or at least, that was Light’s opinion on the matter. Who’d enjoy several hours of mindlessly moving your body unless somehow inebriated? That’s why Light had to drink another two mimosas to keep up with dancing with Misa for five songs straight, not because he was somewhat shaken up about the guy with the bird’s nest hair and the absent look –Ryuzaki, his brain provided– and certainly not because he was figuring out how to approach him.
He separated from Misa when the sun was already setting, bathing the sea with a last warm goodbye. Everyone at the beach stopped for a moment to marvel at it, but Light only had eyes for Ryuzaki, who was… nowhere to be seen, sending Light into a momentary panic.
He almost slapped himself when he found him below the parasol housing the buffet. It was what Ryuzaki had said before about the only reason for coming to the party. Normally, he would have remembered, which only meant Light’s brain wasn’t behaving as fast as it normally would. It couldn’t be that he’d have too much to drink, could it?
Alright, be smooth, Yagami.
“Hello!” Light chirped with a wide grin, planting himself beside the strange boy who was staring at the lines of sweets like they were study material.
Ryuzaki turned to him with a blink.
That had come higher than intended.
"We, uh, are in the same faculty? I’ve seen you around 345.”
“Light Yagami. Second-year Criminal Justice major. You’re the son of detective-superintendent Soichiro Yagami of the NPA."
"Um.”
“You respect and admire your father greatly and your intention is to become the deputy director of the NPA. You’re as ambitious as you are clever.”
“Why do you-”
“Don’t worry. I’m sure you’re aware of how popular you are around here, word goes around. You’re not the only one I have this sort of information on."
Light wasn’t sure if that was supposed to be reassuring.
At the very least, that introduction had sobered him up.
The other student was appraising him with a curious gaze, as he was starting to learn he looked at pretty much everything.
"Is that the way you introduce yourself to everyone?"
"Hmm. Yes, usually. I told you. You’re not special in that regard.”
“In what regard am I special, then?” Light asked cheekily.
“That’s not-”
But he didn’t let him finish before walking around him like a predator would its prey. He made a show of considering what pastry he’d take and settled for a star-shaped cookie. Ryuzaki watched the whole procedure closely and Light smirked at him as he took a bite.
Yes, I made you think about my mouth now. How’s that, smart-ass?
“I think we should get to know each other better, don’t you?”
“And what makes you come to that conclusion?” Ryuzaki supposed.
“Well, I want to, for one.” Light sassed.
“Are you coming on to me?"
Light’s confident semblance cracked. It suddenly dawned on him what he was doing and where. Fuck, what if he isn’t into guys? This was why he never flirted with men unless he was sure the other person was at least bisexual! Or just let the other guys come onto him, which he never had a lack of. Shit.
Ryuzaki seemed to notice his momentary alarm because he placed a hand on his arm in reassurance.
"No, I’m into it. I was just surprised,” he explained with an earnestness Light wasn’t expecting.
“Surprised?”
“People like you don’t usually flirt with me."
"What’s people like me?"
"Now you’re just fishing for compliments."
Light grinned, feeling like his assured (but not overly-presumptuous) self again.
“Swear I’m not.”
“Are you absolutely sure?”
“Your hand is still on my arm, by the way.”
Ryuzaki blinked at the offender, which was indeed still curled around Light’s tricep like a possessive pale spider. He only let go of it slowly, finger by finger, and Light pretended he could see a faint blush on the other’s face with the last rays of sunlight.
There was a conscious effort on his part to not brush those sharp cheeks tenderly with his knuckles, less the sudden contact spook his new sudden fascination away.
“It appears you’re not the only intoxicated one of the two of us,” Ryuzaki admitted in a low voice.
The loud party music and noises of the crowd seemed so far away.
Light took a step forward.
“We should–”
“Light!”
A group of people was coming their way, and Light recognized Takada, Okubo Chise, Kinoshita Hideo, and another fake-blond dude he’d never had any interest in talking to. Kinoshita was the son of a major tech company’s executive and was rotting in money from his million-dollar hair to the ugly fungus in his toenails. Light, sadly, had had a mild interest for him at first, but that went to shit when he came to see how much of an asshole he was.
Kinoshita grabbed him by the shoulder, while Chise and the fake-blond planted themselves in front of Ryuzaki. Takada, for her part, just stood to Light’s side glaring in Ryuzaki’s direction. What the hell?
“Light, what is someone like you doing talking with a freakshow like Ryuzaki.” Kinoshita wondered, exposing his gums in a self-satisfied smile that quickly raised Light’s hackles. "Don’t you know nothing good ever comes from involving yourself with him?”
“Come again?”
“It’s true, Light. He doesn’t have a good reputation,” Takada interjected, not bothering to hide the disgust in her face with a once-over to his new acquaintance. “I don’t know how he’d have the nerve to come in here, uninvited.”
Frowning, Light searched to see the face of the boy he’d just been so pleasantly flirting with and, outwardly, found him to appear relatively unbothered. He’d expected him to be angry, indignant, or even sad, but Ryuzaki only had his hands in his jean pockets and was yet again staring with wide eyes at some unknown fixed point as if no one were talking about him.
“You’re going to have to be more specific about whatever offense Ryuzaki’s done. But whatever the case, I find it incredibly distasteful to round him up like you’re doing.”
“It’s alright, Light. Kinoshita is probably still just angry because I exposed a nasty little online scam of his, and attained information that could lose him the already crumbling favor of his father, and also the fact that he is nevertheless unable to cause me any significant harm,” Ryuzaki answered matter-of-factly without sparing a single glance at Kinoshita’s direction.
Everyone fell silent for a moment.
Okay, that was…
Extremely attractive.
“You’re a lying little cunt!” Kinoshita snarled.
“The naive teenagers being granted false scholarships would argue otherwise.”
“What? Hideo, you said–” Takada began.
But the small elite group exploded in an argument about what Kinoshita had or hadn’t done, with the latter giving weaker and weaker arguments. Light was so engrossed in his rightful indignation and the opportunity to disgrace Kinoshita, that by the time he called for Ryuzaki’s own word in the matter the strange student had already left without saying a word.
×~°~×~°~×~°~×~°~×
“Ryuzaki!"
The hunched figure paused in his lazy gait towards the beach boulevard, but the dark disheveled head didn’t turn around. Light was panting by the time he caught up to him and he could feel the beginning of a headache already forming.
Night had already fallen and the breeze charged at them from within the sea.
"You’re already going?"
"I am indeed approximately 700 feet from the party."
"Not what I was asking.” Light rolled his eyes.
Ryuzaki turned around finally, all sharp angles and even darker eyes illuminated by the blue and purple artificial lights on the street.
“Well, your question didn’t contain your true intentions either. You’re asking why I’m going. And I assume this means you’d like to talk more?"
Fastidious asshole.
L didn’t wait for Light to answer before taking his phone from his jean’s pocket and handing it to him with the contact app open.
Light typed quickly and handed the phone back, which finally brought a blessed smile to Ryuzaki’s face.
"I’m looking forward to talking to you soon, Light Yagami. Oh and before I forget."
Long, spidery fingers settled themselves in a careful hold below Light’s chin, and before he had time to process what was about to happen, soft lips gave a feathery kiss to his own, so quick it might have been fantasy if it weren’t for the ghost of a contact searing an imprint over Light’s heart.
“I’ve wanted to do that since I first saw you at the entrance ceremony.”

Death Note As Unus Annus Quotes
Tumblr media
I still haven’t been able to cope with Unus Annus being gone, so I’ve decided to compile a list of quotes from various videos and use them for Death Note incorrect quotes because idk why not. I had a ton of fun doing this and I hope it shows! Some of these aren’t the exact quotes word for word but I can’t exactly go back to find them now. ⚠️Warning for mature language.
Misa: you think I can fit my thicc ass through there!?
Mello: if I lube myself up I’ll slip right through hell and get into heaven
Near: I can’t.
Mello: I know, I know. You’ve got that condition where you’re...a bitch.
L: stab right here.
Matsuda: right here?
L: yes.
Matsuda: *stabs right there*
L: What the- why’d you stab next to my face that’s a horrible idea!
Matsuda: Ryuzaki, I don’t know I— I’m so sorry!
Light: I think you’re gaslighting him, L...
L: I didn’t think he’d actually do it.
*at L’s funeral*
Light: L was a humble — eh, humble? I don’t think we’d call him humble. L, he was a man. A strong man. Strong willed and strong bodied. What he lacked in intelligence he made up for with his charm, his smile, and his ... okay penis.
L, inside the coffin: ??????
Light: you’re not mad at anything?
L: no
Light: why?
L “Light-Kun is my first ever friend” Lawliet: well, because I got to spend the entire day with you ^-^
Light:
Light, internally: I am mad every time I hear your voice.
Near: *reading* “people can rarely upset you”
Near: yeah I would agree-
Mello: FUCK YOU.
Near:
Mello: are you upset?
Near: no.
Matt: I don’t like it when you use knives so aggressively! That is NOT a good idea!
Mello: no, you cut away from the body and then it’s safe...cut away from MY body, at least.
Matt: OH MY GOD
Mello: What?
Matt: you’re gonna fucking stab me!
Mello: why would I stab you?
Matt: because you’re an idiot!
Mello:....I am not an idiot. I am college educated.
Mello: So I’ve won once...and you’ve won twice?
Near: yes.
Mello: but I’ll come back for you
Near: it is statistically unlikely
Mello: “iT iS sTaTiStiCaLly uNLiKeLy”
Mello: I always feel like it’s fight o’clock
Light: are you making an accusation?
L: no...are you getting defensive for no reason?
Roger: how do you act in problematic situations?
Mello:
Mello: I remain calm—
All of Wammy’s: *distant laughter*
L: I’m not gonna do that, because I’m smart...but you’re an idiot. I think you should do it.
Matsuda: oh, no...
L: I’m just kidding-
Matsuda: No, you’ve got a point!
The entire Task Force @ Matsuda : bitch.
Matsuda: I’m just trying to strike up a conversation-
The entire Task Force: bitch.
Matsuda: I’m not gonna listen to you if you’re just gonna belittle me and be a big bully-
The entire Task Force: BITCH—
Light: I get the sense that they’re not talking to me because they sense how much more powerful I am than you.
L: I think they just like me more.
Light: why would that be a thing? Nobody likes you.
Matt: GAMERS ARE VERY MATURE!
Tiny Mello: what’s that?
Roger: this is a chalk line.
Tiny Mello: a what?
Roger: chalk line.
Tiny Mello: ch...chocolate!
Roger: chalk line.
Tiny Mello: Chompus!
Misa: I’m gonna die beautiful! Do you know what that’s like? No, you don’t. You have the luxury of being ugly.
L: Mhmm
Matt: are you a happy bimbo?
Mello: I AM AN ANGRY BIMBO!!!!
Matsuda : *exists*
L: oh my god, even when you’re quiet you’re mostly annoying.
Matsuda : what are you talking about? I was completely silent-
L: get the fuck out.
Matt: *asks Near a question*
Mello: why don’t you ask ME? Why would I not know? Piece of SHIT.
Mello: I am a man with an extensive wealth of knowledge and you are not taking advantage of me while I’m STILL HERE.
Mello: *flips hair dramatically* GOD
Beyond, dreamily: I forget what happens when you’re on fire...
Light: What’s my most incredible feature?
L: the bags below your eyes aren’t that big so that shows you get a good amount of sleep.
Light:.....wow, thanks man.
Beyond: a lot of people have this dream of dying in their old age, passing away in their sleep, very peacefully.
L: yep.
Beyond: what a basic bitch death.
Misa, finally snapping: you know what really grinds my gears?
Light, very uninterested: what
Misa: you! Because whenever I try to give you a friendly “hey, now” you say “don’t touch me! Don’t touch me!” Well you know sometimes maybe I wanna be touched! Maybe I wanna be touched, Light!
Near: it’s a little loose...
Matt: what, they didn’t sell a child’s size?
Near:
Near: hey—
(Matsuda, taking his mandatory polygraph test)
Chief Yagami: so this machine is borrowed—
Matsuda: oh my gosh, somebody else’s lies are in here!?
This isn’t Unus Annus, I just really wanted to add it here—
Chief Yagami: Who broke it? I’m not mad, I just wanna know.
Light: ....I did, I broke it, dad—
Chief Yagami: No, son you didn’t. Matsuda?
Matsuda: don’t look at me! Look at Aizawa!
Aizawa: what!? I didn’t break it!
Matsuda: Huh. Weird. How’d you even know it was broken?
Aizawa: because it’s sitting right in front of us and it’s broken!
Matsuda: Suspicious.
Aizawa: No, it’s not!
L: if it matters, probably not, but Misa was the last one to use it.
Misa: Liar! I don’t even drink that crap!
L: Really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier?
Misa: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles! Everyone knows that, Ryuzaki!
Light: lets not fight, I broke it. Let me pay for it, dad.
Chief Yagami: No. who broke it?
Aizawa: Chief....Mogi’s been awfully quiet-
Mogi: REALLY?
Aizawa: yeah, really!
Everyone: *screaming*
Chief Yagami: I broke it. It burned my hand so I punched it. I predict in ten minutes from now they’ll be at each other’s throats with war paint on their faces and a pig head on a stick...good. It was getting a little chummy around here.

Light Yagami is the epitome of perfection: honor student, a popular kid, and an attentive boyfriend. But if L had learned one thing it is that pretty boys always lie, and he was about to be caught in a web of Light's biggest ones.
During his time at To-Oh university, L has learned 3 things. 1) never eat the spring onions in the dining hall. 2) people will like you if you carry gum and pencils in your bag. 3) pretty boys always lie.
That last one was a recent development though, something he added to his social checklist as his dark eyes stared back into Light Yagami pretty brown ones, specks of red flickering in the low light.
It was the first party L had ever been to. He didn’t stick out, but he was not exactly blending in. His bare feet dug into the plush carpeting at Misa Amane’s apartment. She was the one who invited him.
He would exactly call Misa and himself friends , just someone whom he was friendly towards. L did not do friends. Keeping people at arm's length-- staying alone-- that is how he stayed alive. It is a system he is not intending to change simply because a pretty girl treated him kindly and kissed him on the cheek when he agreed to come to her Friday night get-together. Though, L would be lying if the thought didn’t cross his mind.
L was not focused on Misa at the moment. L was staring back at the pretty boy who Misa was hanging off of, who had girls laughing even though he said nothing funny. Who commanded the attention of the whole room when he spoke, even though he really wasn’t saying anything at all, his words holding no real substance.
L first noticed Light in his forensics lectures. The boy always seemed to have a crowd around him, always seemed to impress his professors, and always seemed to have all the answers. It seemed as though no one could even bring themselves to hate him for it either, like most do with popular kids their age-- how could they when he was just so charming and pretty and so damn bright ?
He took it upon himself to observe Light (purely for curiosity's sake), watching the way he walks across campus, always studying under the same bench with just enough shade to be comfortable, how he politely listens as his girlfriend talks about photoshoot and modelling drama-- and L believed him to be just that. Just a hard working college student, a popular guy and an attentive boyfriend.
Though, staring back at Light, looking into his eyes, he sees the optical illusion that is Light Yagami. Taking him in at face value is easy-- it paints an attractive picture of the popular honors-student who seems to have his life all figured out. However, the thing about optical illusions is that one step back, one ripple or one tear in the picture ruins it and you see the image for what it is: a disconnected, imperceptible fantasy. That is what L saw in Light Yagami when he finally caught that pretty boy in a lie.
“I have no interest in doing anything with Ryuzaki,” Light shrugged; pretty, pretty brown eyes twinkling under the string lights around Misa’s apartment, “ ‘7 minutes in heaven’ would be more like ‘7 boring minutes spent in a closet’,” The group around him chuckled at his attempt at a joke. L is sure Light could be funny if he tried.
“Of course,” L hooked a finger into his mouth, “Besides, Light is not interested in men anyway, so what is the harm.”
Light’s eyes flashed with someone unknown, something scared, before nodding and standing up, “Exactly,” He kissed Misa on the cheek, and looked back at L before walking to the other side of the apartment. Misa gave L a once-over as he stood up, before softly sighing, pushing him toward the large broom closet, promptly shoving them in and closing the door.
The silence that followed in the closet was not exactly awkward or uncomfortable, but there was a lot unspoken that needed to be said. That optical illusion was wavering-- the edges becoming frayed as Light slowly breathed. Although L couldn’t really see it, he could feel Light’s eyes staring back at his silhouette.
“Misa and I have been dating for almost 2 years now,” Light opened with. It was only then that L realised this was their first one on one interaction.
“Congratulations.”
“You transferred here pretty recently, so you probably didn’t know that.”
“I did not.”
The two stood next to one another in silence for a while.
“I am not gay, you know.”
L blinked, “I didn’t think you were. You do have a girlfriend after all.”
“Yeah, I do.” More silence, followed by, “Are you gay?” This was a hushed whisper, rushed and nervous, like even talking about those homosexuals your mother warned you about was forbidden.
“What?”
“I know you heard me.”
L sighed, “I wouldn’t say that. Personally I have no preference. Men, women, whatever, it is all the same to me.”
“I see.”
More silence. L didn’t really know what to say, but luckily he didn’t have to think of anything, as Light stepped forward, cupping L’s cheeks and kissing him.
L was not sure how to react at first. His mind raced, wondering what the morality of messing around with a man who is clearly confused about his own identity is, and also breaking the trust of one of his colleagues, not to mention the ethics of cheating in of itself. But also Light’s lips tasted like the apple cinnamon chapstick he always carries with him, and he is pressing his chest against L’s and running his hands underneath his shirt, and it feels too damn good to stop.
L wrapped his arms around Light’s broad shoulders, pulling him closer and nipping his bottom lip, allowing his tongue to slip forward into Light’s mouth. Light gasped at the action, whimpering and digging his nails into L’s hips. He knew that Light’s perfectly manicured nails would leave half-moon indents that were deep enough to last until the morning. This made L smile.
He kissed Light’s cheek and then kissed all the way down his jaw. L peppered kisses along Light’s neck, the other man gasping and biting his knuckle. L moved his hands under Light’s shirt, and ran his fingernails down his back, Light harshly biting his hand to stifle a guttural moan.
L pulled away, and he could see Light’s eyes at this distance. He expected him to look confused, or ashamed, or angry, but he mostly just looked horny.
“The others are going to come get us soon.” L explained in a low voice. Light nodded, and began fixing his hair, breathing steadily to remove the flushness on his face.
“Ryuzaki?”
“Yes?”
“Can this be… Just… Don’t tell anyone about this, ok?” Light’s voice was a bit cold a stiled, and L held back a chuckle.
“Of course, Light.”
Lately, L has spent most of his free time kissing Light in private. Sometimes at night when everyone had already left the library, sometimes on the roof of the science building,  sometimes in the backseat of L’s car. Light seemed to really like kissing in the backseat of L’s car. Maybe it was the way the plush velvet seats folded down, or the way the windows were tinted so dark it felt almost illegal to drive, or maybe he liked how L always has shitty 80’s pop playing at a low volume. L wasn’t sure, but it was almost like clockwork to kiss for hours on end in the secluded forested part of the college town.
L was sitting on Light’s lap, the younger man writhing and gasping underneath him, gripping harshly at the back of L’s shirt. A thin sheen of sweat coated Light’s forehead, and L ran his nails up and down Light’s sides as he nipped at his earlobe, making him gasp. L found that Light got easily worked up from even the most subtle of action. He was very sensitive.
L worked at the buttons on the front of Light’s shirt, slowly unclasping them, “Light, have you come to enjoy kissing me?”
“Y-yeah, you’re really good at this, of course I do Ryuzaki.”
L hummed, fully unbuttoning Light’s shirt, but not wanting to take it off him yet. Light looked really good in black. He instead pulled a lever to push the seats down, pressing on Light’s chest to guide him onto his back. L kissed up Light’s chest, restraining himself from biting into the pretty tan skin. L licked a small stripe over Light’s chest, grazing his nipple with his tongue to see his reaction.
Light back arched and he gasped out L’s name, and ran a hand through his hair. L kissed his right nipple and slowly licked the nub, grazing his teeth softly over it, hoping to draw out more gasps and whines from Light.
“What about this, Light?” L asked in a low voice, still teasing him with his thumb and forefinger, smirking up at him.
Light nodded, panting, “Yes, yeah… That feels great.”
“Has Misa ever touched you here?” L asked. He felt Light stiffen, even just for a moment. There was an unspoken agreement that they never brought up Light’s girlfriend, or maybe Light just never expected L to. Light did not respond, so L attached himself to Light’s other nipple, sucking on it while still teasing the other one. Light moaned loudly, now stifling his noises by hooking his fingers in his mouth. L pulled off of Light, a string of saliva dripped from L’s mouth, “Light? Answer me?”
“No, no she hasn’t.”
“Hmm,” L hummed, running his blunt fingernails up and down his sides like he knows he enjoys, “Has any girlfriend ever given you this treatment?” Light bit his lip and shook his head. L nodded, and his fingertips teased the edges of Light’s pants, “Does Light want me to touch him in more places today?”
The two had not done more than kissing and biting with wandering hands. L didn’t mind. He would never describe himself as a patient man but rushing anything like this would surely be heading for disaster. Light looked down at him with wide brown eyes, and the innocence of his gaze almost put the optical illusion back in place for him, but then he remembered where he was: touching and teasing perfect Light Yagami, who is obviously not the person everyone sees. That illusion quickly broke as Light gasped out a “please”, moving his own hands to unzip his jeans.
L slapped his hand away, shaking his head at him. “I am doing this part, do I need to make you keep your hands to yourself?”
There was a dangerous glint in his eye, one that L had not seen before from him. Light hummed, “Hmm, you might. I don’t know.” And this was Light playing rough, not stupid. L did not think Light could be dumb, even if he tried. Internalized shame and heavy amounts of guilt prevented Light from being as much of a tease as he could be, though L knows he is more than capable. Two can play at that.
L moved up Light’s body, capturing his lips with his. He bit down on Light’s bottom lip, causing the younger man to gasp and allowed for L to tangle his tongue with Light’s. Simultaneously, he grabbed Light’s tie and pinned his hands together, doing a simple knot around his wrists above his head.
L pulled away, smirking. Light’s eyes were wide and watery, certainly not expecting L to call his bluff. If Light did have any experience with bondage of any sort, he cannot imagine it was the man himself who was getting tied down and taken care of. The clean-cut honors student types always want to be taken care of, didn’t they? Being in control and in charge of everything in their life, just needing someone else to take the reins for once.
Finally, L was able to undo Light’s pants, pulling them off and throwing them to the front seat. He palmed Light through his boxers, his cock was already fully hard and straining against the fabric. The car was nothing but quiet with Light’s gasps and moans, and L almost let it keep going on, because he is sure that Light’s begging would be simply heavenly.
He pulled Light boxers off, giving them the same treatment as his slacks. Light bit his lip as the cool air hit his cock. L pressed his thumb to his lips and slowly traced a finger up and down his shaft, fingertips barely ghosting over him. Light made an undignified whine and L smirked slightly. Maybe he did want to hear him beg.
"Ryuzaki…” Light said, possibly in an attempt to sound commanding, but his voice was so fucked out it came across as a needy moan.
“Being tied up like this, defiled by another boy… It shouldn’t make you this happy, should it, Light?”
“ Ryuzaki… ”
L teased the head of his cock with his thumb, “What would people think if they saw you like this? With me?” He hummed, Light gasped as L slowly stroked him, “What would your classmates say? Your friends? Misa?” He stressed.
“Oh God…”
L picked up his movements, “Do you think they would be shocked? Horrified? Perfect Light Yagami tangled up in the sheets with Ryuzaki?” He chuckled to himself, Light holding back his moans, “I personally am not surprised. Right now, all I see is a contented slut getting what he deserves.”
“Ryuz- Ryuzaki please , please give me what I deserve... I need it, please …”
And Light’s begging was all it took. L took all of Light in his mouth, deep-throating him and letting the head of his cock hit the back of his throat. It only took a few more seconds before Light was crying out his name and coming down Ryuzaki’s throat.
L pulled off of Light and looked up at him, the other man’s cheeks were flushed and his face completely blissed out. L leaned forward and gave him a brief kiss on the lips, Light returned it happily.
“Hey…” Light started, quietly, “I know you were just saying it… But… You won’t actually…”
L shook his head, “This all stays between us, remember?”
Pretty boys always lie…
L and Light had graduated from messy blowjobs in the back of L’s towncar to L practically folding Light in half and fucking him on the plush sheets in his apartment. L does not exactly know what Light tells Misa if she asks why he is spending almost 5 days a week at L’s apartment, he doesn’t bother, it is not his relationship.
It is not everyday that L pins Light against the mattress right when they get back, now preferring to let things build up slowly. In fact, for the past 6 months they have been doing this, they do their work in silence across L’s dining room table, or sit on the couch and just talk. Talk about their classes, their ideas, their goals. L didn’t think he would ever get tired of listening to Light talk. Just like he did not think he would ever get tired of pressing into Light, hearing the other man moan under him.
L currently had Light’s hands bound to the headboard; his long, athletic legs were hooked over L’s shoulder’s as L slowly pushed deep into Light.
“M-more Ryuzaki… Fuck … more…”
L tsked and shook his head, “My my, Light, where are you manners,” He punctuated his statement with one quick thrust into Light, perfectly hitting his prostate, causing him to cry out and moan, “Ask politely.”
Light writhes under him, thrashing at the headboard which had his hands tied, “Go to hell, Ryuzaki…” He whined.
In response, L yanked his hair, and licked a stripe up Light’s neck. He nibbled on Light’s ear lobe, knowing how much he liked it. He ran his hands up his thighs, and gave him a swift but stinging smack, Light groaning at the harsh contact. L often closed his eyes and imagined how pretty Light would look covered in bruises and love bites-- being able to mark him up and claim Light Yagami as his . It was an attractive picture, one he did his best to keep at a distance. “Don’t make this difficult Light, just ask politely…” Which they both knew was another way of saying ‘beg for it’.
“Go faster Ryuzaki… Please…” Light gasped out, and L snickered, speeding up his thrusts.
“See, now was that so ha-” He was cut off by Light’s phone ringing. L reached into his discarded pants and pulled out his phone, gripping the top of it with his thumb and forefinger, “It is Misa.” He says.
Light groans, shaking his head, “Just let it ring, I will call her back after this.”
A wicked smile spreads across L’s face, looking at the caller id and Light’s hands still tied to the bed. Light cocks an eyebrow.
“I hope you have learned to control your noises, Light.” L tells him. Before he can ask any questions, L flips open the phone and presses talk, holding the phone against Light’s ear.
“Hi sweetie!” Misa’s voice came through over the phone, L close enough to be able to hear her, littering kisses across Light’s collarbone and moving his hips painfully slowly, in and out of Light.
“H-hi baby, how are you doing?” Light panted out, trying to keep his voice steady.
“I am doing good! I am glad you picked up, it has been so long since I heard your voice,” There was a considerable amount of background noise on Misa’s end, a busy shopping mall or possibly a photoshoot set. L took that into consideration, now very pointedly moving, angling his cock to merely brush against Light’s prostate. The younger man was squirming underneath him-- this kind of edging would be punishing enough typically; with his girlfriend on the phone it made it simply torturous.
“Ah- Yeah, sorry I have been so preoccupied lately, I promise I will make time just for us soon.” Light’s voice was obviously stilted and strained, but L was counting on the noises from wherever Misa was to distract from that fact (he is sure Light is counting on that too). L pressed kisses along Light’s neck up to his ear, nibbling on the lobe that wasn’t currently occupied with the phone conversation.
“What exactly has kept you so preoccupied, Light?” L whispered in his ear, knowing how much Light liked the soothing sound of his low voice, “Or more accurately who has been getting your attention?” L could hear Misa talking, but he wasn’t exactly trying to make out what she was saying, “Go on and tell her. Tell her what we have been up to. Tell Misa what a good slut you have been for me, I know how much you like to hear it.”
Light eyes were welling up at praise and degradation dripped over him like honey. The dual sensations of L fucking him and using his one free hand to tease his nipples is enough to have anyone panting. But he had to keep his breathing even, doing his best to not moan as his girlfriend tells him about the modelling shoot she is currently on a short break at. He was relatively stable, that was until L moved his hand lower, teasing the head of his cock, clearly not satisfied with how well the other man was showing restraint. L couldn’t help but smile when Light gasped once he touched him. He could faintly hear Misa pause, asking him what was wrong.
“Oh dear, Light,” L teased, Light was now biting his lip so hard he was fearing he would break the skin, “Are you ready for your girlfriend to finally find out what a filthy fucking whore you are?”
Light shook his head, answering Misa and doing his best to ignore L. “Ah, sorry baby, I just looked at my phone battery, I am going to die soon. J-just text me when you wrap up, ok?”
“Oh, ok! Talk to you later, then, love you sweetie!”
“Y-yeah, you too.” L snapped the phone closed with a ‘clack’ and threw it across the room. Light let out a guttural moan, frustrated tears ran down his cheeks.
“Light? Are you o-”
“Fuck me Ryuzaki, please please, dear Lord I need this.” Light’s voice was broken and needy-- a man who was kept on the edge for far too long.
“I hope I didn’t go too far.” L stood on his knees, lifting Light’s hips up. Previously restraint was gone, L’s hips snapped roughly into Light, he didn’t think that he could hold himself back if he tried.
Light was extremely receptive to the violent pace, gasping and whining, already so far gone.
“ There! Keeping going, fuck … I am so close, please.” Light begged, his eyes screwed shut and he pulled at the restraints, moaning. “What you did was fucking insane, Ryuzaki, but fuck I had never been so turned on in my fucking life.” He gave a weak chuckle, “Maybe I am a filthy slut like you say.”
L nodded, gripping tightly on Light’s hips, only half-worried about his fingertips leaving bruises for later, “It is about time you listened to me, Light.”
“Did I do good?” Light asked. His voice was broken and wrecked, and God, it was so good to listen to. “Was I a good slut, Ryuzaki?”
L nodded, feeling himself getting close as well, “You were a good boy, yes Light, a perfect whore. A perfect fucking slut for me.”
“ Ahh! Yes, fuck yes… A good slut for you, your good slut-- all yours .” Light came with L’s name on his lips, the other man following shortly after. A few chaste kisses followed as they both came down, and L ignored the twisting feeling in his gut.
L hated parties. He hated birthday parties even more. Something about the idea of an adult expecting gifts and attention simply for existing is something that seems childish and trival. Especially when that adult is Misa Amane, who rented out a banquet all for her party. L doesn’t hate Misa, he doesn’t. Though, he couldn’t help the self satisfied smirk that creeped onto his face, coupled with an immoral sense of superiority when Light dragged him away to a secluded pantry on the other side of the venue.
“Mmm, someone is needy,” L muttered, pulling the lapels on Light’s blazer closer to him for a needy kiss, “Glad you are giving the birthday boy special treatment.”
“Shut up.” Light muttered, kissing L like he means it, greedy and desperate.
The two grind against one another, the closed space and limited time not offering as  many options as typical-- it brought back a similar feeling of way back in the early days of their correspondence where they would kiss in the dark stacks of the library; L still trying to figure out what makes Light squirm, and Light still barely comfortable enough to put his hands on L’s waist.
Oh how fast the night changes he thinks idly to himself as Light pulls on his messy waves, exposing the alabaster expanse of his neck and latched himself onto it as he has seen L do many times, though he actually gets to feel Light’s teeth sink into him and admire the purple against white the next day.
L quickly undoes Light’s belt and slacks, pulling them off with his boxers, knowing they only had a limited amount of time before the hostess of the party figures out her “guest of honor” has been missing for several minutes. Following the pants, L drops to his knees, taking Light’s cock in his mouth all at once. Light tangles his hands in L’s hair, slowly but steadily fucking his mouth.
“We have a limited amount of time, you realize?” L pulled away, and Light groaned at the loss of contact.
Light shook his head, “I don’t think anyone is going to come looking for me.”
L slowly stroked him, thumb rubbing over the slit of his head, causing Light to bite his lip through a moan, his back hitting the wall behind him. L looked up at him, eyes impossibly wide, “I think you misjudge how strongly Ms. Amane’s infatuation with you is.”
Light didn’t respond to that, so L took the head of Light’s cock in his mouth, the man biting down on two knuckles to stifle his noises. L knew he was getting close, after almost a year of this affair, L knew exactly what to do to get Light to tremble and squirm and just how far to push until he is over the edge.
His orgasm rips through him, Light gripping tightly onto L’s hair, making him moan around Light’s cock. He wipes his mouth with one of the cocktail napkins placed neatly on the shelves. He gingerly took Light’s hand as he helped him off the floor, pulling L in for another messy kiss.
Light drew his nails down L’s back, now panting into his mouth, but the two quickly jumped apart when they heard the click of heels making their way down the adjacent hall.
“Light? Are you down here?”
The two froze and looked at one another. “Misa,” Light mouthed, and L rolled his eyes, as if he didn’t warn Light of this exact situation previously.
“Come on.” L quickly pulled Light out of the pantry, walking him towards the bathrooms  directly on the other end of the hall before she rounded the corner spotting them, “Tell her you were seeing me off and I had to leave early, and you stopped by the restrooms before you came back. Also…”  He pulled a small wrapped object out of the back of his pocket. It was long but thin, containing a rose gold gemmed bracelet. “It is a bracelet. It will distract her from any questions that she has.”
“Ryuzaki I-”
L shook his head, running a hand under the water of one of the bathroom sinks and fixed Light’s mussed and imperfect hair, “Don’t. I’ll be fine.” This only works if you keep lying. C’mon Light, where is the illusion? “Go. Do what needs to be done.”
L shoved Light out of the bathroom, just in time too, for he ran into his girlfriend. He listened to their idle voices from the bathroom and felt a wave of bittersweet joy from Misa’s elation at the gift. He stayed until their voices disappeared and snuck out the exit near the back. He always did hate birthday parties.
It was around 2am when L heard the knocking on his door. Confused and apprehensive, he opened the door to see a disheveled and tired Light on the other side. His eyes were rimmed red with dark circles underneath them. L wasn’t sure if he had ever seen him in such a state.
“Light? What are you doing here? Are you ok-” L’s concerns were cut off by Light cupping his cheeks and kissing him. Not the passionate and needy type that he is used to, but raw and emotional. He wrapped his arms around L’s neck and held onto him like his lifeline.
L did not disconnect from his lips, instead leading them both to his bed. It was still neatly made (it being essentially unused since the last time Light was over) but he pulled back the duvet and crawled under it, Light following close behind.
L held Light for a long time, running his fingers through his perfect brown hair and offering light kisses. A few rare moments of silence passed, and Light’s breathing became a lot more steady and the touches less needy.
“It is much past the time you are typically asleep. What on Earth are you doing here? This isn’t like you.” L muttered lowly in Light’s ear.
Light huffed, “I apologise for not fitting your perfect honor student archetype.”
“That is not what I mean. I am not talking about perfect, clean-cut college senior Light.”
“Wha- but that is me.”
L shifted slightly, pressing a thumb to his lips, “On the surface, sure. You are the definition of sublimity and much sharper than those around you. Not to say you are not that, but there is much more to it. Despite being one of the top students in Japan, you do not care as much as people think you do, and you obviously have secrets of your own. Do not try to play coy with me, Light, I greatly dislike being belittled.”
Light was silent for a while, tracing nondescript patterns along L’s chest, “I thought that I was the number one student in Japan.”
L stifled a laugh, “One of us here is.”
“I have never even seen your name on the national rankings.”
“You have never seen Ryuzaki on the national rankings. Though I am sure you were around when Hideki Ryuga made an appearance.”
Light was silent for a moment before shaking his head, “I thought for a while now that Ryuzaki was an alias.” L hummed in response squeezing Light softly and pressing a kiss atop his head, “So, what is your true name?”
“I cannot tell you that, Light.”
“Why not?”
“I just can’t.”
Light pulled away from L’s arms and sat up, “That isn’t fair. I have been nothing but honest about myself with you, and you can’t share one stupid thing with me?”
“You still don’t get it…” L muttered to himself, sitting up and pulling his legs close to his chest.
“Get what?” Light spat out.
L sighed, “I cannot be fully honest with you until you are honest with yourself.”
Light opened his mouth and closed it again-- a brief moment of confusion before the anger took its place, “What does that mean?”
“What is it you truly desire of me, Light? How long are you going to conform to the expectations you created for yourself.” L’s voice was not angry or frustrated or even disappointed. He just sounded sad, “You are graduating college and Ms. Amane’s career is in full swing now. With how many years you have together she is going to be expecting marriage and a family soon. And then what? How much longer must you keep lying to her, to your family, to-- you know, forget all them. How much longer can you lie to yourself about what you really want? When will your self imposed expectations that you curated supersede who you really are?” Light stayed silent, his body was stiff and his eyes glassy. L sighed, “You may stay here tonight, of course. I will hold you and kiss you and love you tonight. But after that, I need to take your time to think about what exactly you are doing, and talk to me when you figure it out. You’re not the only one who is affected by your actions.”
He left the rest unspoken. Not saying he wanted to hold onto Light forever, finally call him his, and not put an ultimatum on their love. But it was too painful to say the rest out loud.
L held Light and stroked his hair as he fell asleep. L tried to fight off his own exhaustion, but his eyes eventually closed and he drifted off as well. He woke up the next morning cold and in an empty bed.
It has been about three months since L and Light had seen one another. That’s fine. L doesn’t need anyone. Staying alone is how he stays alive. He goes through his school work faster than ever, senior finals quickly approaching for him, though he has no doubt that he could manage without trying. That doesn’t stop him from doing so for whatever reason. He just needs to keep busy.
L was editing an essay when his phone rang, Misa Amane’s contact name appearing. L stared at the phone for several seconds, weighing his options. He eventually snatched the phone and flipped it open, “Yes?” He dumped all the sugar cubes from his bowl onto the table, idly stacking them.
“Hi, Ryuzaki, sorry to call you this late-” L glanced at the clock, just past midnight, “But I was just wondering if Light was with you.”
L paused, and bit his lip, “No, actually. I have not seen Light for about 3 months now.”
There was silence on the other end of the call, L could only hear static on the other end. He made his tower about 6 cubes high before Misa spoke, “3 months? You haven’t heard from him for 3 months? He said he was going to talk to you ages ago. I am worried about him, Ryuzaki.”
“What seems to be your cause for concern?”
Misa sighed, “I broke up with Light about 2 weeks ago,” L knocked over his cube tower, sending sugar crystals careening over his laptop. He couldn’t tell if he was breathing at this point or not, his heart was beating so slowly… Or fast? L couldn’t for the life of him tell, “He said that he was going to talk to you shortly after I ended things, but I hadn’t heard from him or seen from him, and now you have no idea what's going on, and oh God, what if he is dead or killed himself I don-”
“Misa?”
“Yes?”
“Please calm down for me, ok?” L hooked a finger in his mouth, trying to keep his voice level for Misa’s sake, “I am concerned for Light as you are. I just need you to answer me some questions and I should be able to figure out where he may be.”
“You don’t think he is dead?” Misa choked out.
“I say there is only 2.5% Light is dead, and that would be due to forces outside of the situation. Light is strong, he would never try to kill himself.”
“I- I know this Ryuzaki, I am sorry.”
“Never apologise for your feelings, Misa.” L dragged his finger across his desk and licked the sugar off of his finger. “What was the last thing you two talked about?”
Misa’s voice was quiet, but self assured, “We haven’t talked since I ended things. After that, he hasn’t been in class or on campus.”
“You did break up with him, surely he doesn’t want a lot of interaction with others right now.”
Misa huffed, “No, that can’t be it. I broke up with Light for his own good.”
L nervously bit at the skin around his nails, “If I may pry, what is the reasoning for the termination of your relationship.”
“I was afraid you would ask that…” Misa sighed, clearly debating what she wanted to say. L moved the mouse on his computers and idly scrolled through the essay he was editing, needing something to distract him, even if he was not processing any of the words being read on screen, “This is what Light was supposed to talk to you about but... I ended things because he… Ryuzaki, he is in love with you.” L bit down on his thumb. Hard. The metallic taste of blood was the only thing that was keeping him from passing out. “When we started our relationship 3 years ago, I knew he didn’t love me like I loved him, but I figured he would be able to learn to, right? But, something changed once he met you… He was smiling more and happier, but also distant and confused and pensive. I think he has been wrestling with this for a while, and it is unfair to myself, Light, or you to continue a relationship that no one is happy with.”
“Misa, I-”
“I am sure you are also a bit shocked about this turn of events as well… Or maybe not, I don’t know how much you suspected, but Ryuzaki I-” She sighed, sniffling slightly. L popped a sugar cube in his mouth. If Misa was about to start crying he needed all the glucose support he could get, “I was really mad at you at first. I hated you. But now I realise I should thank you. I was settling for someone who never really gave me their all, or really wanted me for me. I settled, and so did Light. We both deserve better. He wants you, and if you want him, let him know.”
“Did you tell Light all this as well?”
“Yea, it was the last thing we talked about.”
L chewed on his lip, “I think I know where he is.”
“Well, this is certainly unexpected.”
Light turned around, L smirking softly behind him, the chilly wind musing his hair and chilling his bare feet. Light sighed, standing up from the collection of boulders he was on, facing L. He tugged his jacket closer around himself, “How did you find me here?”
“Cameras everywhere.” L idly pointed around, and Light simply raised an eyebrow, “Misa called me, told me what happened. I was able to figure out the rest”
Light nodded, sitting back down, but facing L still, “I see.” He looked at Light a little more. His state and appearance were worse than when he saw L 3 months ago, though it was clear he was trying to hide it. His pretty tan skin was sickly and shallow and his eyes were hollow.  The illusion of perfect Light Yagami wasn’t just gone, it was ripped to pieces and set on fire.
“Can I sit?” L asked, and Light made a small gesture with his hand. L crouched next to him, placing his hands atop his knees but remaining a good distance away from Light. He looked around at the forest. The very same place he and Light kissed his car, nearly everyday after classes for many months. They both had become very familiar with the area, though the tension in the air is palpable and unlike what L was used to. It reminded him of the closet incident a year ago. Nerves alight in both men, having no idea what action to take next.
“You look good.” Light said. L held back a chuckle, he looks like he always does and he knows it.
“You look tired, Light.”
“I am tired.” He responds simply. They stay silent for a few moments. L has so much he wants to ask, but this was Light’s conversation to lead, “I have been so stupid.” Light starts. He places his head in his hands, and runs his fingers through his hair, “I told myself the loneliness would go away with time. It didn’t, but I kept ignoring it. I just couldn’t stop thinking about what you said and…” Light sighed, “No one has ever been that honest with me. They tell me I am perfect and good, so I thought this hollowness that I have felt ever since I was a child was normal. And then.... Then you came along telling me things could be better, and it could go away and I… I was scared.”
“Why?”
“Even if it is a bad feeling, it is terrifying to think of life without it.”
L nodded, pressing his thumb to his lips, “You would have ignored it forever if Misa hadn’t broken up with you.”
Light chuckled weakly, shaking his head, “Yeah, I probably would have.”
“Did you tell her, Light?”
He shook his head, “Misa doesn’t know. Maybe one day, I will tell her. Right now… She is being incredibly selfless, and I have been incredibly selfish, I didn’t want to add to that.”
“You realize that withholding the truth from her is, in of itself, a selfish action right?” Light gave him a pointed look and L just sighed, “So, why here then?”
Light looked pensively up at the stars, leaning back on his palms. Even with exhaustion and stress seeping through his body, he was still so beautiful, “The simplest way to put it is… Is I missed you. And I didn’t know what to do. I felt like running and hiding and lying was the easiest way to deal with my feelings, but it is too painful to do that, and acting like such a coward is killing me. And now you are here, and I don’t know what to do.”
L pondered this for a moment, “Well, you could come over here and kiss me.”
Light looked at him, eyes wide, “Is that ok?”
Chuckling, L shook his head, “You were not this hesitant and asking for permission the first time.”
He moved closer to L, caressing his cheek. Light ran a hand through L’s hair and softly pressed his lips against L’s. It wasn’t a symphony or a matching puzzle piece or the final brushstroke of a beautiful painting. It just felt so right after so long, and L could finally exhale.
“I am lucky to have you back, Light Yagami.” He kissed Light’s forehead.
Light smiled. Despite the fatigue still present, that familiar glow that Light always gleamed was returning, “Do I finally get a name for you now?”
“As long as I can call you mine,” He softly kissed Light’s cheek, “You can call me L.”

Saezuru Movie Thoughts!!
Finally watched Saezuru!!!!
It was so so good. Here are some chronically notes of my thoughts while watching:
Kuga!!! ONOYU!!! I love him so much!! It was so good seeing/hearing him! Agh, I love him & Kageyama together so so much! *__*
TARUUUUU!!!! I love this man, seriously. He’s amazing. Perfect. Yashiro is his best role and I felt like falling in love all over again. I love him .__.
Yashiro is so cute I can’t take it!!! His faces!! His dead eyes! (sometimes he reminded me of Saitama haha)
WACCHAAAAAAAAA! My number one. My bae. The man who really owns my heart. Could his voice get any LOWER??????? hnggg *dies*
Yashiro’s eyes when Doumeki said he’s impo hahahaha
Bless them for having Takuchan listed, even though his character said exactly one sentence and that’s it.
Yashiro sleeping on Doumeki’s lap, cuuuuuuteeeeee
Freaking adore Nanahara. Oki2 is hilarious and so so precious. Always~
Taru’s laughter!!! I LOVE THIS MAN! HAVE I ALREADY MENTIONED THAT??
Nanahara’s reaction to the cop cosplay xDDD
THE FREAKING COP COSPLAY HNGGG WE WERE BLESSED. I feel ya, Yashiro. Doumeki looked super hot like that *__*
Umm... the h-scene with Ryuzaki was HOT. I’ll have to re-watch that (well, I’ll have to re-watch EVERYTHING sooner or later. Preferably sooner haha)
Whenever Doumeki (Waccha) said ‘kashira’ I died a little. I just... it was too much.
When Doumeki said ‘dakaretai’ - Yashiro’s gasp!!! Same, Yashiro. Same.
Whenever Yashiro said ‘omawarisan’ I couldn’t help but think about Taru’s BLCD with Makonyan (”Tasukete, omawarisan!” XD)
Whenever Doumeki was touching Yashiro’s hairrrrrrr ahhhhh MY HEART
“Fallen hair. Touch it” HAHAHA
The tiger sweatshirt!!!!!!
The h-scene of Doumeki describing his sex scene with his school nurse while Yashiro was touching himself sounded almost exactly like their BLCD version I--
All the h-scenes were so hot (without even showing the actual body parts). I was h y p e r v e n t i l a t i n g
When Kuga said he’s Kageyama’s kareshi, he sounded so proud. CAN I HUG THIS PRECIOUS MAN PLEASE
The four of them in the restaurant together was so wholesome
The AV in the theater was waay too long for my taste. I did not need to hear a woman moaning in my yaoi movie thankyouverymuch (yeah, it’s part of the plot but meh. Had a hard time trying to ignore her and concentrating on our boys agh)
Yashiro crying - me crying ;___;
Extra notes:
I was smiling a lot. I just felt warm inside and full of love for the characters and seiyuu.
But I was also on the verge of crying a few times. Some scenes were super emotional, especially with that soundtrack in the background. Agh, my heart.
I kept recalling the BLCDs whenever a h-scene was happening. Me being me I couldn’t help but trying to compare them. (You all probably already listened to all the BLCDs by now, but just a reminder that I’ve shared a couple of the h-scenes, they’re all in my blcd snippets tag!)
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE REST OF THE MOVIES!!! I can’t even begin to imagine actually watching all the future h-scenes. It’s gonna be one hell of a ride!!! I’M READY!!!

UA High School.
One of Japan’s national high schools with a renowned hero course that produced some of today’s top heroes, like All Might and Endeavor. Anyone who aspires to be a great hero, one of the very best, aims to attend UA.
Chizu was no different. But it was surreal to be standing at the entrance of that oh so familiar ‘U’ shaped building, ready to begin her first day of training to become a hero.
Of course, it wasn’t easy. The last few years of her life in general haven’t been the greatest. But it was only more motivation for her to work hard to achieve her goal. Her mother, who was known as the Dark Magic Hero: Mysteria, had always supported her and had faith in her, even during her lowest moments with training her quirk. Now Chizu could only hope that her father would do the same, despite that she hadn’t been the most promising aspiring hero in training.
“Do you know what high schools you want to apply to?”
“I….wanna do a hero course...and I think UA is the best choice.”
“Chizu...we talked about this—”
“I’m never going to get any better if I don’t go to UA!”
“Chizu, why would you want to go to UA when you’ve chased out every trainer I’ve hired? You clearly aren’t that serious about it. I think you should expand your options beyond becoming a hero,” her father replied bluntly.
She didn’t know how to respond, too focused on trying to choke back the feeling of crying. It frustrated her that she felt this way, having had this conversation too many times before.
“Why do you want to be a hero, Chizu? What’re you gaining from being a hero?”
Chizu couldn’t look at him, her voice quiet in an attempt to have the words come out more smoothly.
“I-I just...wanna be like her. She overcame a lot to get where she was!”
“And you saw how that turned out for her. What makes you think you can avoid that kind of fate?”
“I mean, I think it’s possible—”
“Do you WANT to disappear and never be seen AGAIN CHIZU?”
Her lip started to tremble as she winced at his stern voice. Her voice was small, trying to be heard.
“Of course not but…”
“Then I need you to think logically about this and decide what you want to do. Don’t get upset about it.”
“I have,” Chizu reinforced, gritting her teeth. “And if being her isn’t enough for you, then I’ll be better than her!”
“Well,” her father only began to laugh. “You better get serious then, because I am not going to pay all that tuition for you to get kicked out like you did in middle school.”
She seethed at his words, knowing they were true but that he didn’t have to say it out loud. Take a deep breath, take a deep breath, take a deep breath...
“You’ll see! I’ll train every day and work hard to pass the entrance exams,” she promised.
“You better get a special recommendation if you wanna get in, then.”
“No, I want to work hard and earn the right to be there—”
“Hey, I’m letting you do what you want but you’re gonna do it how I tell you to...now go get a letter from your tutor...”
Sure enough, ten grueling months passed and Chizu took the entrance exams for students with special recommendations. Overall, she felt proud of herself for what she was to be able to do with her quirk, given her disadvantaged training circumstances. But getting to the practical exam, she wasn’t sure what she could show off was going to be enough. There were so many people with amazing and powerful quirks which they could control with ease as well as demonstrate a range of different abilities with them. She didn’t know if she could compete to stand out against these other kids her age.
But Chizu kept her promise that she made to her father and did her best.
Turns out, she was one of four students admitted to UA under special recommendations. She was placed in class 1-A with 20 total students in the class. She was hopeful to see a familiar face from the special entrance exam but she figured the odds would be slim.
She was currently speed walking down the hall, trying to locate her classroom. It was still early, approximately 15 minutes until homeroom would start. She couldn’t tell if she was just really really anxious or really really excited to start a hero course at her top choice school with 19 other hero hopefuls. She was nervous that she’d have trouble making friends, given that she hadn’t attended real school in about three years, but she wanted to try to make a good impression on her classmates and hoped the rest would follow easily.
She finally saw a sign that read ‘1-A’ with a rather tall entryway open next to it. She peeked around inside, seeing that almost half the class was there already. She was about to walk further into the classroom to choose her seat when she heard a frantic voice behind her.
“Uh….excuse me?? Is this….. class 1-A?”
Chizu turned to find a boy, who looked very out of breath, standing behind her.
“I think so,” she replied while getting a better look at her new classmate. He had messy green hair with green eyes to match, and freckles dotted on his cheeks.
He sighed in relief. “Oh, thanks. I thought I was going to be late—”
“Oh heyyyyy, it’s you!”
A girl with short brown hair and rosy cheeks appeared in the entryway this time. Chizu thought she seemed very friendly with her bubbly demeanor.
“OH! Hello, it’s….you,” the green haired boy replied. “Also, I just wanted to say thanks for offering to give me some of your points…”
“Oh, it’s no big deal! You rescued me, after all!” She beamed, leaving Chizu confused as to what they were talking about. She guessed it might’ve been the other entrance exam, which probably  almost everyone in this room could relate to, except for Chizu. But it’s possible she was wrong.
“DEKU WHAT’RE YOU DOING HERE!?!?!?!”
An angry blond haired kid yelled from his seat over on the far right of the classroom, catching everyone else’s attention.
“OH HI KaCcHAN!” The green haired kid answered, nervously waving.
Everyone seemed to know this guy. Also, ‘Deku?’ That’s a strange name. And why was the blond guy yelling? It’s too early in the morning for that.
Chizu awkwardly stepped away from the situation without another word. She didn’t want to be rude but she felt out of place and she figured she’d learn their names later.
These were her classmates for the next year, anyway.
She took her exit down the far left row of the classroom, away from the angry blond kid, who was still screaming at that poor green haired boy. It was hard to drown him out, but Chizu tried to focus on finding where to sit. Most of the seats in the front were taken already so she decided to head all the way to the back where there were more empty seats.
As she got to the back row, she spotted a boy sitting in the second seat from the far right. She recognized the half white, half crimson red hair as one of the other applicants from the special entrance exam. She hesitated on the thought of walking over and talking to him. She remembered him having a rather intense aura about him during the exam and it seemed to encourage an unwanted rivalry between him and another applicant, whose animosity stemmed from some other time that was seemingly beyond Chizu.
But she figured that maybe he was just nervous or was feeling the pressure from getting into UA, just like everyone else there. He was the only person so far that she would maybe have an easier time to befriend.
She let her feet guide her the rest of the way over until she was about an arms length away from his desk. Chizu stepped back a bit as she was met with a stoic, unreadable expression, heterochromatic eyes meeting her with unwavering eye contact. The scar painted over his left eye was mostly covered by the red side of his hair, but only made the teal of his eye even brighter.
“Sorry, um,” she struggled to find her words for a moment. “Is that seat taken?”
She pointed to the seemingly empty desk to his left. He didn’t even look to where she was pointing, simply shifting his gaze back to its original position straight ahead.
“No,” he replied in a deep, low voice that matched his aloof affect.
“Okay, thanks,” she grinned before walking to the other side of him to take her seat.
She placed her bag on the hook on the side of her desk, before the commotion up front caught her attention once again. More students had joined the classroom, with the green haired kid continuing to be the center of everyone’s attention.
“Whoa, you’re the guy that broke both of your legs while taking out one of those zero pointers with one hit! That was so manly!” remarked another boy with spiky, vibrant red hair.
“Yeah, haha, that was me,” the green hair replied nervously.
“BIG DEAL I GOT MORE COMBAT POINTS THAN THAT DAMN NERD!” the angry blond spoke up. Everyone ignored him except for a tall kid with glasses who only scolded him.
“You there! Get your feet off the desk!”
“HUH?”
“It’s only the first day and you’re disrespecting the property of this fine establishment,” he continued while chopping the air with his hand. “We should all be model students as the future heroes produced from the country’s finest hero course!”
“You’re kidding me, right? And WHO ARE YOU, YOU DAMN EXTRA!?”
“I’m Tenya Iida and YOU should get your feet off the desk!”
“Name’s Katsuki Bakugo, and I’m already going to be the number one hero, better than All Might, SO GET OUT OF MY WAY!”
Jeez, if everyone in this class was going to be like that guy, then Chizu had half a mind to just leave now. She turned her attention back to the small crowd forming at the front. It seemed like everyone was just introducing themselves, wanting to be friends with the timid but supposedly ‘manly’ green haired kid.
“Hey! I’m Eijiro Kirishima!”
“I’m Hanta Sero.”
“Mina Ashido!”
“I’m Denki Kaminari!”
“I’M...MINETA!”
Chizu couldn’t keep up with all the names being tossed around and it seems neither could the green haired kid.
“Hey guys...I’m Izuku Midoriya! It’s great to meet you all!”
So I guess ‘Deku’ must be a nickname? Or quite possibly an insult, given by the way the blond, or Bakugo, had screamed it at him.
Chizu sunk in her seat a bit, wishing that she could be as affable as this Midoriya kid seemed to be. And it wasn’t like he was trying that hard. But she still had the chance to get to know the peppermint haired boy sitting next to her. She turned to face him, who looked like he was watching the scene in front just like she was.
“I’m Chizu Ryuzaki, by the way.”
She thought he didn’t hear her when he didn’t respond for a moment and opened her mouth to continue talking.
“The name’s Shoto Todoroki,” he replied, refusing to look at her as he introduced himself.
“It’s nice to officially meet you! I saw you at the special entrance exam, and just thought I would say hello,” she explained, hoping she wasn’t coming off as too forward or awkward.
The air was silent between them for a few moments again before his eyes shifted over to her, hooded heterochromia catching her own.
“You’re wasting your time,” he warned. “I’m not here to make friends.”
He returns to his assumed position without another word, effectively shutting Chizu out. She couldn’t help but feel like she did something wrong, staring down at her hands on her desk. But at least she knows his name now.
“Hi!” a voice catches her attention to the desk in front of her, where a pretty girl with dark hair was now seated. She looked slightly familiar.
“I’m Momo Yaoyorozu,” she introduces herself in a sweet voice.
Chizu didn’t know if she was talking to her or the cold boy, who she now knew as Todoroki.
“I’m...Chizu Ryuzaki,” she responded hesitantly.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you! You were great at the entrance exam,” she complimented with a bright smile.
That’s right, she was there too. Chizu seemed to greatly underestimate the odds that she would end up in the same class with two of the other three special recommendations admitted to UA. Would the fourth one turn up though?
“Oh, thank you! Likewise, it’s great to meet you too!” Chizu replied genuinely.
“I’m glad the other applicants admitted through special recommendations are in this class, too. When I heard there were only four I didn’t think the odds would be in my favor to meet the others!” She admitted, as if she had read Chizu’s mind.
“Yeah...kinda crazy, right?”
The girl smiled again before looking over at the group at the front. “Do you want to go meet the other girls with me?”
“Okay, sure,” Chizu agreed, finally feeling at ease.
She went with her new friend, Yaoyorozu, over to meet the other women in the class. They were a minority compared to the number of boys in the class, but to Chizu that just meant a few more future female pro heroes.
All the girls seemed really nice and cool. Ashido and Uraraka were really sweet and bubbly. Yaoyorozu was also very nice, but extremely intelligent as well. Chizu didn’t remember her much from the exam but she guessed that her quirk had something to do with knowledge. Tsuyu or ‘Tsu’ as she liked to be called, seemed very level-headed and calm and Jiro seemed like she had a cool sense of style or music taste, given that her earlobes extended into headphone jacks.
Chizu was already in awe of her female classmates and had forgotten about her less than desirable, first impression with Todoroki.
“I think this year’s going to be great! I’m honored to be in a class with such talented others,” Yaoyorozu declared.
“Yeah, I think so too! I haven’t met everyone yet, but I’m so excited!” Uraraka beamed.
“If you’re looking to make friends, you might as well leave now.”
A brooding, unfamiliar voice emerged, coming from outside the classroom. The group closer to the entryway peeked outside, one of them being Midoriya, who screeched at what he saw.
A man in a yellow sleeping bag suddenly appeared at the entryway. He shed the sleeping bag to reveal the rest of himself. Was this guy...supposed to be their teacher?
“Welcome to the UA Hero Course.”
Everyone automatically took their seats as he approached the podium at the front of the classroom.
“My name is Shota Aizawa, and I’m going to be your homeroom teacher.”
His long dark hair covered most of his face and if it wasn’t covered by his hair, his large scarf would make up the rest. Chizu was sitting all the way at the back of the classroom but she could tell by his monotonous voice and half-lidded, unamused expression that he wasn’t going to be giving out good marks left and right.
“Starting today, you are all heroes in training. And instead of going through a normal orientation, I’m going to evaluate all your quirks with an apprehension test,” He explained, handing out packages of clothing, which Chizu recognized as a gym uniform.
“Everyone put these on and meet out in the PE fields.”
-
Chizu stood with the rest of her classmates out on the fields by the school, all matching in their blue, red, and white uniforms, the top and bottom forming a ‘UA’ design on the front. She chose a spot behind Midoriya, Uraraka, and Iida as Mr. Aizawa stood before them, explaining the process of the test.
“Today you will go through the quirk apprehension test. This test will allow you to show off your abilities so I can gauge your potential as future heroes. Since you weren’t allowed to use your quirks in middle school, your performance should be even better than if you completed this test normally.”
“Bakugo,” he singles out the blond. “What was your furthest throwing distance in middle school?”
“Heh. My best was 64 meters,” he replies in a cocky voice.
Mr. Aizawa holds out a ball to him. “Throw it using your quirk.”
“Easy enough,” Bakugo snickers, taking the ball from him and stepping into a boundary circle. He winds up his arm a few times to warm up before pulling it back.
“DIE!”
He yelled as he launched the ball with a huge explosion coming from the palm of his hand. Everyone watched in awe as the ball soared into the sky, disappearing into the clouds. Chizu didn’t really like the attitude of this Bakugo guy so far, but she had to admit that his explosion quirk was pretty impressive.
Mr. Aizawa checked a device which measured Bakugo’s throw.
“That’s 705.2 meters.”
“Your quirk improves your performance, but that performance can only be maintained by how much control you have of your quirk,” Mr. Aizawa explained as Bakugo retreated back to the group, basking in his classmates’ reactions.
Everyone began chattering, distracted with being excited over participating in these tests.
“We get to use our quirks?! This is going to be so fun!” Uraraka beamed.
“Yes, this will be a great opportunity to show what we can do,” Iida commented.
Chizu mentally agreed with Iida but also was interested to see the others’ quirks. Not to size herself up against anyone, but just because she was genuinely curious.
“Don’t get excited,” Mr. Aizawa continued, effectively shutting everyone down. “I will be keeping track of each of your scores at each test. At the end, you will be ranked from best to worst. The person who comes in last...will be expelled.”
The mood of the group shifted drastically, many people gasping in shock. Midoriya let out a screech of terror while Uraraka spoke her mind against Mr. Aizawa’s casual caveat.
“But that’s not fair!”
“Life isn’t fair,” Mr. Aizawa retorted, malice in his bloodshot eyes. “And as heroes, it’s your job to combat that unfairness. Now let’s get started.”
Chizu wasn’t especially nervous about her performance, as her training for the entrance exam mostly focused on agility, flexibility, and strength, like her mother would do with her when Chizu would train with her. Most of the tests had something to do with physical fitness, so she was pretty confident. She also had good basic control of her quirk for it to be versatile enough for each test.
But Chizu was more interested in each of her classmates’ performances. The range of the types of powers in the class was pretty diverse and it was impressive as to how everyone adapted their quirks to the test. But it seemed like there were one or two people who particularly shined in a specific test which was designed for their quirk, like Iida’s engine power, which had the fastest time in the 50-meter dash.
Although, one person became a spectacle in terms of showing off his power. Midoriya completed every test normally, leaving Chizu and probably others to wonder why. She noticed that he was visibly anxious about taking the test once Mr. Aizawa said someone would be expelled. Maybe he was letting the pressure get to him, and his quirk would hurt his performance more than help.
But didn’t that spiky red haired kid mention that Midoriya beat a huge obstacle at the entrance exam with one hit?
Something just doesn’t add up.
They arrived at the ball throwing station, in which they had to throw a ball as far as they could using their quirks, just like Bakugo had done at the beginning. Uraraka by far had made this her test, her throwing distance maxing out at infinity meters. Maybe one day someone will find that ball...in space.
Midoriya was up next, still looking very anxious but also pensive about what he should do. Like if he should use his power or not. Meanwhile, Bakugo seemed to be keeping a very close eye on Midoriya and his performance.
“You don’t really think he has a quirk, do you?” He questioned Iida.
“What? Of course he does, he has to!”
Bakugo bared his teeth while watching Midoriya, leaving Chizu to question what kind of past relationship these two had before UA. She turned her attention back to Midoriya, who was getting ready to throw his pitch. His throwing arm began to turn red and glow with yellow all through the muscles in his arm. He began to pull his arm back, building power to throw when Mr. Aizawa stepped in, his scarf and hair suddenly coming alive.
Midoriya’s arm stopped glowing, dropping the ball as he was now caught by Mr. Aizawa’s scarf. Midoriya looked terrified as he looked up to his captor.
“I erased your quirk,” Mr. Aizawa explained.
“Y-You’re….Eraser Head?!”
Everyone began murmuring again about the revelation. Chizu had heard of him before, yes. He was a Pro Hero whose quirk could erase quirks, but to be honest she didn’t understand how that would help him fight off villains. He seemed pretty well versed with his scarf, though.
“I watched you during the entrance exam, Midoriya,” seethed Mr. Aizawa, pulling the trembling kid closer by his scarf. “You severely injure yourself after using your power...what good are you if you’re useless after one hit?! You don’t belong here.”
What the hell was this kid’s quirk? So far, it sounds powerful but to physically injure yourself to use it? Chizu wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It also wasn’t fair that Mr. Aizawa was putting him on the spot in front of everyone like that. Everyone here was chosen to come to UA for a reason and clearly this guy was no different. But then again, Mr. Aizawa made sure to make his stance on ‘fairness’ very apparent on the first day.
Everyone else froze with anticipation as Mr. Aizawa continued scolding Midoriya. However, Bakugo seemed to be getting a kick out of watching the scene in front of him, hearing him laugh under his breath.
“Heh, heh. Dumb Deku.”
Mr. Aizawa let him go, his hair returning to its original position. He forced Midoriya him back to the boundary circle, leaving the green haired kid dumbstruck at what just happened.
“I restored your quirk. Go ahead.”
Midoriya picked up the ball, looking at it for what felt like a while. Chizu couldn’t imagine what was going through his head right now. But surely if he could pass the entrance exam, he could get through this too.
She and the rest of the class observed with anticipation as he held onto his right wrist with his left hand, as if to stabilize it as he pulled back his arm. His arm wasn’t glowing anymore, but it looked like one of his fingers began to glow. It seemed like he was focusing his power into only his finger as he swung his arm, that finger doing the rest of the work by propelling the ball into the air. Everyone watched as the ball soared, even Bakugo looked shocked.
“He….HAS A QUIRK?!!!?”
Chizu glanced back at Midoriya as continued to hold onto his wrist, one of his fingers now swollen and colored a gruesome purple. That didn’t look good.
Mr. Aizawa measured the distance. “705.3 meters.”
Bakugo snapped. “YOU DAMN NERD, I’M GONNA KILL YOU!”
The angry blond charged forward, his palms spitting out small explosions. This kid seemed to have more issues with Midoriya than Chizu would’ve guessed.
Midoriya instantly cowered away but peeked up when the impact never came. Mr. Aizawa’s hair shot up again, his eyes glowing red as his scarf pulled Bakugo away from Midoriya.
“What’s...your scarf... made of,” grunted Bakugo, struggling against the material, helpless with his quirk being erased.
“It’s a capture weapon made out of alloy mixed with carbon nanoparticles,” he explained. “You’re wasting my time.”
He released Bakugo, who was still visibly enraged, from his binds. “And don’t make me use my quirk too much; it gives me dry eye.”
Midoriya returned to the rest of the group, standing on the other side of Iida, who blocked him from Bakugo’s continued rage. However, that didn’t allow Midoriya to completely ignore the angry blond, trembling at just the sound of his vengeful yelling.
“You’ve been lying all this time, Deku!! And I’m gonna make you PAY!”
Chizu could not take her eyes off their interactions, not noticing that it was her turn to throw.
“Ryuzaki, let’s go.”
Chizu turned her attention back to Mr. Aizawa, who looked impatient by her distracted demeanor. She apologized before walking over and grabbing a new ball from him, moving to take her place in the circle.
Bakugo always managed to stand out the most with his rather ‘explosive’ aptitude at each test. But Chizu was able to match his ability in a more subtle way. She only wished that she could use the move that she had always thought about trying but never actually put into practice. It would certainly launch the ball far, but would take up too much of her energy. Not to mention that she had never actually done it before. Now was not the best time, especially after what Mr. Aizawa said to Midoriya. She would have to opt for something much simpler but would get the job done, like Midoriya had demonstrated.
She took a few deep breaths while swinging her arms, loosening up the muscles, while blackish-purple, flame-like energy began to emanate from her hands. She let the ball be taken in by her quirk, pulling her arm back while inhaling deeply one last time before exhaling with a grunt, sending the ball off her hands with force of the flames, much like Bakugo did with his explosions.
The ball flew far, disappearing into the sky like the rest, never to be seen again.
“705.3 meters,” Mr. Aizawa announced.
Chizu smiled, silently praising herself, while Bakugo did not seem too happy. Everything seemed to piss this guy off.
“GET YOUR OWN MOVE, YOU DAMN EXTRA!”
“Well...it’s not like I can just change my quirk,” Chizu replied earnestly.
“WELL LEMME CHANGE IT FOR YA.”
“Kacchan calm down!” Midoriya shielded Bakugo from attacking her. “Sorry, sorry, he’s just not great when it comes to not being the best.”
“GET OUT OF MY WAY DEKU!”
“Bakugo! I won’t tell you again,” scolded Mr. Aizawa.
Chizu ignored him while her other classmates praised her.
“Wow, that was so cool!” complimented Uraraka.
“Thanks! Not as cool as what you did, though” Chizu remarked. “That ball’s probably still floating somewhere!”
“Yeah...I didn’t think that would actually work,” she replied, her cheeks getting slightly rosier.
“Your power is so impressive, Ryuzaki!” Yaoyorozu interjected.
“Well, so is yours!” Chizu pointed out. “You have to know all those molecular structures and think quickly about what you’re going to make.”
“Oh, it just takes studying, that’s all!” she replied modestly, waving Chizu off.
The moment of relief was hitting Chizu, giving her the chance to really breathe. She was going to be fine and her journey at UA was going to be nothing but rewarding for her.
But at the moment, she felt someone’s eyes on her again.
“Todoroki. Your turn.”
Footsteps came up, and she looked up to see him passing by her, shooting an icy expression right at her eyes. She honestly forgot that he was even there, as he opted to stand at the back of the group.
After she would complete a test in which she relied more on her quirk, she’d catch him staring at her. More like glaring, but in his own way. It wasn’t full of malice or rage, but it definitely wasn’t friendly. He did say that he wasn’t there to make friends, and he meant it.
He went last on every individual test or would complete one that called for partners by himself. During the sit-up test, they had to be paired up, with one person holding the other’s feet while they did their sit-ups. Todoroki simply used his ice quirk to freeze his feet to the ground. Chizu knew he had a second quirk, something to do with heat, but it seemed he only used it when he had to and never at full power, like when cleaning up his ice. The exact range of his abilities were still a mystery, but he seemed to know what he was doing.
Overall, he mostly minded his own business. It was only the first day, he’s probably just slow to warm up. And if that was the case, Chizu didn’t blame him with people like Bakugo in the class.
After the last test was done, Mr. Aizawa had no mercy in showing everyone where they ranked, pulling up the final results on a hologram screen. Fortunately, Chizu didn’t have to look far to find her name:
Momo Yaoyorozu
Shoto Todoroki
Chizu Ryuzaki
Katsuki Bakugo
Tenya Iida
Fumikage Tokoyami
Mezo Shoji
Mashirao Ojiro
Eijiro Kirishima
Mina Ashido
Ochaco Uraraka
Koji Koda
Rikido Sato
Tsuyu Asui
Yuga Aoyama
Hanta Sero
Denki Kaminari
Kyoka Jiro
Minoru Mineta
Izuku Midoriya
Sighs of relief echoed throughout the group, some people more relieved than others. Bakugo, of course, was not too pleased. Not only with the fact that he wasn’t in the top three but also by way that Chizu was ahead of him.
“LISTEN HERE SHIT FOR FLAMES,” he yelled, stomping over to her. “THE ONLY REASON WHY YOU’RE AHEAD OF ME IS BECAUSE YOU COPIED ME. IF WE FOUGHT FOR REAL I KNOW I’D WIN FOR SURE, YOU GOT THAT?”
Chizu could only humor him, smiling. “I’d love to see it, Bakugo.”
“DON’T SMILE AT ME, I WILL KILL YOU!”
“Give it a rest, man. Just be happy you’re in the top five,” the boy with the spiky red hair assured, patting Bakugo’s shoulder in praise.
“Well at least you’re in the top 10, Kirishima! I barely made it!” another blond boy commented.
Chizu turned her attention back to the results, not surprised by the two people above her. Yaoyorozu was seemingly unmatched so far with her ability to make anything she needed in that time and place. And Todoroki...that was pretty self explanatory. It was impressive that he was still very high up yet only used half his power to achieve that. Impressive to some but insulting to others, maybe. But this was only motivation for everyone to work hard and focus on improving their own skills. Everyone except for…
Poor Midoriya, who came in dead last, which meant today was not only his first but last day at UA. Chizu felt bad for him as he cowered behind everyone else in the group, seemingly letting the news sink in as discreetly as he could. It seemed like he tried his hardest to make do with what he could, even when people like Bakugo and even Mr. Aizawa were nothing but doubtful and discouraging. It was quite admirable...something that a real hero would do.
“Don’t be too proud if you’re at the top,” Mr. Aizawa interjected. “You’ve got just as much training as the rest of the group. And as for the rest of you, you’ll need to work harder than ever if you want to be at the top of this list.”
He really didn’t spare much praise for anyone, huh?
“Also...no one is expelled.”
The entire class gasped while Midoriya looked like he was about to pass out from stress.
“Then why did you tell us that someone would be expelled?” Tsu questioned, asking what was on probably everyone’s mind.
“That was just to get you to not hold back,” Mr. Aizawa replied with a sadistic smile.
Dumbstruck didn’t even begin to describe the reactions throughout the group. Well, at least he chose not to expel anyone….today.
“Which is what you should be doing from here on out,” he continued. “You’re here to go plus ultra and nothing less.”
“YEAH!”
 “Class dismissed.”
-
Chizu returned back to the school with the rest of the class to change out of their gym clothes before heading back to the classroom to retrieve their belongings. It was only the first day for the first years, meaning that they only had orientation that day and their actual classes would start tomorrow.
She felt pretty good about her performance during the quirk test. She was genuinely happy to rank third in the class but also would’ve been happy to be in any position. Maybe not last like Midoriya but only because Mr. Aizawa deceptively put the pressure on thick.
But being at the top isn’t everything, at least to Chizu. Because when you’re the best, where do you go after that? What else is there to achieve? It only gets harder because at that point, you have to maintain your spot. People will only see you as a target to hit, a pawn to knock down, whether you want them to or not. She often wondered how a hero like All Might could handle that pressure, being the number one hero. Maybe she would get the chance to ask him since he’s teaching at UA now. Her mother always said there’s a reason he’s number one and why he’s maintained it for so long.
And it’s not because he’s the strongest or the fastest, or because he saves the most civilians, and it’s not because his identity is held under lock and key. If you ask someone why All Might is their favorite hero, they might mention one of those three, or something similar. But those reasons all come together for something bigger:
He’s more than a hero. He’s an inspiration, a keystore for the hero society. And that’s why no one will ever take his spot.
Someone like Bakugo could probably only do that in their dreams. He’s got the passion though, Chizu could give him that.
But he should watch out, otherwise someone like Shoto Todoroki might make him freeze up when the time comes.
Chizu couldn’t help but let her mind drift to him. She just couldn’t tell what he was thinking behind his expressions towards her. He was trying to silently tell her something. Was he jealous or something? But how could he be? He literally placed above her in the quirk test results. If anything, Chizu should be jealous but she only feels confused and slightly paranoid. He was very quiet and very observant from the way he was looking at her. Whatever it was, she couldn’t let him get to her...
She couldn’t afford a repeat of middle school. More importantly, her father couldn’t afford it. She wanted to show him that she could attend a national high school where she would achieve her goals of becoming the best hero she could be.
Chizu returned to the classroom to grab her bag, observing the empty desk next to her. Todoroki must’ve already left for the day. Alone, most likely.
And it looks like she would be leaving alone too, most of the other desks empty as well.
As she walked towards the entrance of the school, she contemplated talking to Todoroki. But what would she even say to him? ‘Hey why do you keep looking at me like that?’
No, she needed to remain calm and unbothered. She took a deep breath, exhaling as she exited through the front doors of the school.
“Oh, Ryuzaki!”
She turned to see Yaoyorozu coming over to her with Jiro, Tsu and Ashido in tow.
“We thought we missed you! Would you like to walk with us?” she proposed, her voice as sweet as when she first spoke to Chizu earlier that day.
Chizu grinned at her. Looks like she wasn’t going to be alone. Funny how things can turn around like that.
“Sure, thanks.”
She joined the rest of the girls and they began walking down the long path that led to the school.
“You guys can call me Chizu, by the way, I really don’t mind it,” she offered, never having been one for formalities. “Where’s Uraraka?”
“She’s waiting with Iida until Midoriya’s finger is healed,” Tsu replied.
Chizu nodded, not needing to ask any further. Although Ashido had no problem carrying a conversation.
“Ohmygosh, did you guys see how Mr. Aizawa was talking to him earlier? Super harsh!”
The rest of the group agreed, including Chizu. Yaoyorozu agreed as well, but continued with a qualifying explanation.
“Yes, it was indeed very unsettling and rather unnecessary to do in front of the whole class. However, one must accept their flaws before they can improve. We all have our shortcomings, and accepting them is only the first step to becoming the heroes we want to be.”
And that’s why she’s currently number one in the class.
The girls continued to chat amongst themselves as they walked, mostly about how they felt about the first day and what they expected for the rest of the year. They neared the end of the road to the school, an intersection coming up ahead. There was another student sitting on a bench on the side who looked all too familiar to Chizu.
“Ohhhhh guys, shhh,” Ashido spoke in a hushed tone. “He’s so cute, I love his hair!”
“His quirk’s pretty impressive as well,” Tsu commented.
“You should’ve seen him at the special entrance exam. He seems to have a very admirable drive,” Yaoyoruzu agreed.
Chizu stood on the side for this topic as they continued to quietly talk about him. They quieted completely once they began to pass by him, but Chizu couldn’t be more aware of his presence, turning her full attention towards him.
Todoroki sat as silent as ever, looking down at the screen of his phone. Chizu couldn’t help but keep her eyes on him as they got as close as possible to him. She wasn’t very discreet about it, but then again, he hadn’t been very stealthy about looking at her either.
So of course he looked up from his phone to find her eyes on him.
She felt a pang to her heart upon catching his eyes, one gray and one teal, scar and all. But she couldn’t look away. There was something different about his expression. Compared to earlier today, his eyes were soft but... sad? She tried to spare him a small, apologetic grin before turning her attention back to walk with the other girls.
Little did she know, his eyes followed the group as they walked away.
Ashido went nuts over what had transpired, shaking Chizu by the shoulder, with excited declarations of his liking to her. Chizu merely brushed it off in saying that she should’ve left him alone. But really, she was more confused about this guy than before. His emotions were all stored in his eyes, but why did he seem so sullen? She wasn’t about to pry into his personal affairs but she had to admit her intrigue.
Who are you, Shoto Todoroki?

Ryuzaki had gone missing. Well, perhaps that’s overstating things. He hadn’t been seen in the taskforce headquarters the whole day, which was unusual for him, to say the least. Still, he was a grown adult and could take care of himself….right?
That’s what Light had said to everyone to try and ease their concerns, but he wasn’t so sure of it himself. He wasn’t worried about Ryuzaki’s safety. Far from it, in fact, and he was sure the others weren’t either. All they cared about was solving the Kira case.
Having recently regained his memories, Light was actually surprised at how smoothly his plan had worked up until now. But he needed to keep his guard up if he wanted it to keep succeeding, and not knowing Ryuzaki’s whereabouts made him very uneasy.
To cause Light this discomfort hadn’t been Ryuzaki’s intention when he had left the building without telling anyone, but it was a very welcome by-product indeed. He wasn’t complaining. Even now, as he walked the streets of Tokyo, he wasn’t sure why he had come out or where he was going. It was so unlike him. Yet, all he knew was that he had suddenly felt that he needed to get out of there. The walls of the building, despite how big it was, seemed to close in on him from all sides, and even the presence of the people inside felt suffocating.
He hadn’t realized how long he had been wandering around aimlessly like that, hands shoved into his pockets, but presently, he found himself in a park. It was evening now, and he frowned when he realized that he didn’t remember actually walking here.
Something very soft brushed across his ankles and if he hadn’t been so deep in his thoughts, Ryuzaki might have actually jumped from surprise. Looking down, however, he soon realized it was just a harmless cat. He smiled and bent down to pet it. The cat readily bumped its head into his hand.
“You don’t seem to be a stray.” He murmured, looking around for any signs of its potential owner, but there wasn’t anyone in the immediate vicinity.
He got up and sighed, before sitting down on a nearby bench. It wasn’t ideal, but he was tired. The cat, seemingly having taken a liking to him, jumped up to sit in his lap. The cat was completely white, with blue eyes and a fluffy tail. Ryuzaki sighed, absentmindedly petting its head.
“I’m right, I know I am. Light is Kira, there’s no two ways about it.’ He muttered, then looked down at the purring feline in his lap, “What do you think?”
The cat meowed loudly and he nodded in agreement, “Right? I know.”
Just then, he heard a voice calling a name from somewhere in the distance. “Atticus? Atticus!”
…what? The calls continued, before the person finally spotted him on the bench, “Ah, there you are!”
It was a girl who hurried up to them, skidding to a stop in front of the bench as she tried to catch her breath. The cat in his lap, who was probably named Atticus, he realized, meowed loudly as it jumped down from his lap and went to rub against her ankles.
“I hope he didn’t bother you too much!” she said apologetically, “He has a habit of running off…”
“Not at all.” He shook his head, then raised an eyebrow, “Atticus?”
The girl laughed as she took a seat beside him, hauling Atticus up into her lap, “Yeah…I didn’t want to go with the generic Snowball or something, you know?”
He nodded, then laughed to himself a little as he saw the myriad of bewildered expressions crossing her face as she took a better look at him. Was it the way he slouched? Or the way he was dressed? Either way, it was always amusing for him to watch strangers try to make head or tail of it, of him, and fail miserably.
Still, at least she was polite enough to not stare or comment. Instead, she asked him what his name was.
“Just call me Ryuzaki.” He replied, not even bothering to hide the obviousness of the lie.
She laughed, “Alright then, Ryuzaki. What are you doing here?”
“What do you mean?
She shrugged, “You don’t seem like the kind of guy who would want to spend his evenings strolling in the park.”
“Is that so?” he smiled, “Then what kind of guy do I seem to be?”
She took that as an opportunity really look at him, her gaze taking in all of him. She did this for a long minute, before letting out a sigh, “I…really can’t tell much, to be honest. Except that you look conflicted about something, maybe.”
He didn’t answer her for a while, instead absentmindedly petting Atticus, who had jumped back into his lap in the meantime. “…How far is one justified to go to prove they’re right?”
He had said what came to mind, but he hadn’t really expected her to answer. At worst, he had thought she would call him a weirdo and walk away with Atticus, and at best she’d just laugh and ignore him. She did neither.
“Well, it depends on what exactly one is trying to prove themselves right about.” She said thoughtfully, “What are the stakes?”
“People’s lives.”
She looked taken aback at that, but recomposed herself quicker than he expected, looking at him as if to gauge whether he was being serious or not. After a while, she nodded, “In that case, one should definitely go as far as he can.”
“Even if it causes a lot of collateral damage?”
“Well, are you sure you’re right?”
“I am.”
“And are you sure there’s no other way to go about this?”
“I…” he hesitated for a while, then sighed, “It’s all I know.”
“Then you should keep doing what you’re doing.” She said with a smile, “Nothing comes for free, you know. And this may sound like bad advice, but when the stakes are this high, you don’t have time to dwell on your regrets.”
He blinked and looked up at her, surprised at the determination in her voice. He hadn’t noticed when she had shifted from using ‘one’ to using ‘you’ in the conversation, but for someone who knew as little as she did about the true nature of what they were talking about, her words made a lot of sense to him.
“Oh, would you look at that?” she said suddenly, looking up at the sky, “It looks like a storm’s gathering.”
He followed her gaze and sure enough, the sky was overcast with grey clouds, threatening to spill over any moment. She got up to leave and looked at him apologetically,
“I had such a nice time talking to you, Ryuzaki.”
He got up, handing Atticus back to her and shooting her a rare smile, “Likewise, miss…”
“Right.” She laughed, “Maybe I’ll tell you my name the next time we run into each other.”
He shoved his hands back into his pockets, “What makes you so sure that will happen?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Just a feeling.”
With that she turned to leave, waving to him once as he watched her retreating figure. Soon enough, she had disappeared from his sight. He sighed. Despite what she had said, he wasn’t sure whether they’d ever see each other again. For a few days now, he had had this feeling of impending doom looming over his bed, almost sounding like faint church bells in the distance….
The early November air felt especially biting through his thin shirt, and he shivered a little. Taking one last look up at the sky, he turned to walk back the way he had come.

#50 from Fluff/Romance/General-- You're a terrible liar. Any pairing 👀 (Stay safe!!)
Fluff #50 -- “You’re a terrible liar.” Wrote RyoSaku for y’all (also kinda a future fic, but not too far into the future.)
“Game and match, Seigaku’s Echizen! 6-3.”
From the sidelines, Sakuno cheered for her boyfriend as he shook hands with the Yamabuki 3rd year. It was the first game of the season, the first one since he’d been appointed captain, and he had already led Seigaku to a decisive victory. She beamed with pride.
“Amazing,” a reporter muttered from next to her, snapping pictures rapidly.  “We’re probably going to see Echizen on the challenger circuits this year, won’t we?”
“Yeah, it would be a waste of his talents if he just stuck to playing in high school,” another reporter agreed. “It’s the perfect time for him to start playing outside Japan.”
At this, Sakuno’s eyes suddenly widened. ‘That’s right…’ she thought to herself in realization. ‘Ryoma’s probably leaving soon…’ She always knew that he had to take his talents elsewhere… but she didn’t think that it’d be so soon. Especially since after crushing hard on him for five years, they’d finally, finally begun dating.
She quietly excused herself from the group to be alone with her thoughts. It was a particularly hot day. After strolling through the grounds for a couple minutes, Sakuno leaned up against a tree trunk, taking refuge in the cooler shade.
Before long, a shadow appeared in front of her. “There you are. I was looking for you, where’d you go?”
She smiled halfheartedly. “Ah, just for a walk.”
He peered down at her. “What’s wrong?”
“N-nothing’s wrong.” She forced a cheerful tone in her voice. “You played amazing today, Ryoma-kun.”
He lifted his cap slightly, to get a better read on her face. “You’re a terrible liar, Ryuzaki.”
“I… what?”
He knelt down on the grass. “Talk to me,” he said, his voice surprisingly gentle.
Her breath caught, and it took her two tries to get the words out. “I mean… You’re leaving soon, aren’t you?” she finally said, fiddling with the bottom of her skirt. To her horror, tears pricked the corners of her eyes. “To achieve your dreams? You can’t do that here.” You can’t do that if you’re stuck here.
He flopped down next to her, resting his head on her thigh. “What do you know about my dreams?” he said, looking up at her face.
His golden gaze held hers, intense and unwavering, and Sakuno felt her face heat up. “Um… to be the best tennis player in the world, right?”
“That’s true…” He hummed, low in his throat, and she felt her heart drop slightly. “But I have a lot of dreams,” he said. He shot her a look, his expression unreadable, before pulling his cap down over his face.
She thought about asking him what that meant, but fear took over and her words died on her lips. Instead, she ran her fingers through his hair and watched the steady rise and fall of his chest.
A few minutes later, she checked her watch and nearly yelped. “Ryoma-kun, we’re going to be late for the closing ceremony.” She attempted to move her leg, jostling the cap from his face. “Come on, we have to go.”
“Just a little longer,” he mumbled, without opening his eyes. “Just stay with me a little longer.”
Sakuno sighed exasperatedly. They were going to be reprimanded again. He was always getting her in trouble, into some sort of mischief. As responsible as she liked to think she was, he could probably get her to do almost anything.
The thought was both treacherous and hopeful. For him, she’d do almost anything.
“Okay,” she said softly. “Just a little longer.”

⁂ Falling Harder (Shinji Ibu)
Tumblr media
Genre: Friendship, Slice of Life, Fluff, Comedy ☁
Word Count: 3,520 ☁
Pairing: Reader x Shinji ☁
World: Prince of Tennis ☁
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
“Hurry up you two!” Momoshiro called from up ahead. He was making you come along to the street tennis courts with him, even though you and Ryoma didn’t want to go.
“Shut up, Momo!” You both chorused back.
He rolled his eyes and ran up the stairs with the two of you a few minutes behind.
When you finally climbed the stairs, you found Hajime Mizuki, Shinji Ibu, Akira Kamio, and Yuuta Fuji there. They were having a doubles match; Mizuki and Yuuta vs. Shinji and Kamio. You and Momo sat on the bench and watched the match while Ryoma leaned against a tree.
The match ended with Shinji and Kamio as the winners, and the four of them walked over. Kamio glared at Momo, “What are you doing here?”
“An invited us,” he glared back.
“She invited you, not us.” You pointed to yourself and then to Ryoma.
Ryoma nodded, “You made us come.”
“I don’t mind you two,” Kamio muttered.
“What?!” Momo yelled, jumping up and pointing an accusing finger at him, “What makes them so special!?”
The two of them started to argue back and forth, first about An and spiraling into random events that happened before they even met.
Mizuki grabbed your arm, sitting down on your right, “Do they always do this?”
“Yup,” you quipped, watching the two yelling at each other.
“They’re being too loud,” Shinji muttered quietly, nearly making you jump; you hadn’t even noticed him sitting there.
You glanced at him, “That’s nothing new either. Those two only have two settings – loud and louder.”
“Like you’re better than I am!?” Momo screamed, getting into Kamio’s face.
“You’re damn right I am!” Akira screamed back.
The sound of giggling broke your attention away from their bickering and you turned around to see a girl about the same size as Ryoma. She had deep green hair and blue eyes. She was giggling and staring at Shinji who tensed as soon as he saw her.
“Hii~ Shinji!” she giggled again, holding her folded hands to her chest.
“Hello,” he answered, his voice emotionless as he turned back around, giving the two quarreling boys his full attention.
The girl smiled and ran over, sitting next to him, much closer than she should have. In response, Shinji moved closer to you, trying to escape the girl as she scooted closer and closer until she was practically in his lap.
He closed his eyes as she grabbed his arm, hugging it tightly to her chest.
“I didn’t know you swung that way.” Mizuki chuckled.
Shinji didn’t even acknowledge him, so you hit Mizuki in the back of the head in his place.
“What was that for?!” he cried in surprise, glaring at you. “Why do you have to be so mean?”
“Don’t be a jerk, Hajime.” you hissed.
He scowled at the use of his first name and Yuuta chuckled from beside him.
“What are you up to this weekend, Shinji baby?” the small girl giggled.
He shook slightly, his eyes staying closed. A couple minutes later, he lifted his free arm and put it around your shoulder, pulling you closer to his side. “I’ll be spending it with my partner.”
You raised an eyebrow in question but said nothing. Mizuki jumped up and sent you an accusing glare, “When the hell did that happen?”
Both Akira and Momo stopped yelling at each other, having been drowned out by Mizuki’s outcry. Putting on a fake smile, you stomped on his foot before sending him a warning look, telling him to shut his trap. He scowled again, plopping back down onto the bench and rubbing his sore foot.
“You never said anything about dating Y/N.” Akira murmured to Shinji, sending him a suspicious look.
“Neither have you,” Momo stared at you with the same look.
The small girl removed herself from beside him to stand in front of the group, her eyes watering, “I t-thought we had s-something s-s-special!” And with that dramatic act, she ran away.
Shinji made no movement as his eyes slowly slid open. Everyone stood around the two of you, waiting for some sort of answer. Silence settled over the group before he finally spoke up, removing his arm and putting some distance between the two of you.
“She has been stalking me for two months,” he muttered, so soft that the other boys had to lean closer to hear him properly. “She does this every time I try to tell her there is nothing between us. She always comes back.”
“I get it,” Yuuta snapped his fingers. “You told her that Y/N was your partner in hopes that she’d leave you alone.”
Shinji slowly nodded, “Sorry.”
“It’s fine, I understand.” you offered him a smile.
“I won’t allow it! Mizuki jumped up, stomping his foot on the ground much like a child would. “I won’t allow my little sibling to be used like this.”
You rolled your eyes and stood, kicking Mizuki hard in the face with the bottom of your sneaker. “Will you shut up, I’m not even related to you.”
He twitched slightly before stepping backward, holding his nose. “How can you be okay with this? He’s using you!”
“It’s not even a big deal,” you responded, smacking his hands away when he tried to grab you. “It’s not like it’s real or anything.”
He blinked a few times before sighing, “Fine. But I’m not happy about this!”
You rolled your eyes as he stomped his foot again and then you sat back down next to Shinji who hadn’t moved an inch. You took his hand and held it in both of your own, “Don’t worry, Shinji. I’ll play along.”
He blinked slowly, his navy eyes set on your hands. “Thank you.”
You nodded, “Happy to be able to help!”
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
It’s been about a month and a half since you became Shinji’s partner. Honestly, it wasn’t as much work as you thought it would have been. You hung out with each other like you normally did, with the exception of holding hands and hugging, and you were spending a lot more time with Fudomine, as well. Mizuki and Momo liked to tag along, both for different reasons; Momo had nothing better to do and Mizuki was being an idiot. Even Ryoma came quite a few times, as well. Against his will, of course, but that’s just minor details.
The little girl, who you soon found out went by the name Gracie, had started to come around less and less, instead choosing to hide in the shadows, going after Shinji when you weren’t around. Apparently, she hated and felt threatened by you all at the same time.
You were sitting inside the burger joint with Shinji at your side, hand clasped within your own. Ryoma sat to your right, stuffing his face while simultaneously glaring at Momo who was glaring back and also stuffing his face. Eiji was trying to contain his laughter as he watched the two of them. Eiji, Shinji, and yourself had already finished eating and were just waiting on the two boys to finish their eating contest. Honestly, though, it didn’t look like there was an end in sight anytime soon.
Your phone started to vibrate in your pocket so you stood up and stretched before bringing it to your ear, “Yeah?”
“Hey, Y/N-chan.” It was Taka.
You smiled at the group before excusing yourself to walk outside where you leaned against the brick wall of the building, “What’s up, Taka?”
“Oishi asked me to call you,” he answered softly.
“What’s he got planned now?”
“Bowling,”
“Please tell me Inui isn’t going!”
“He is,”
You sighed deeply, knowing what was in store. “Can I at least bring some friends with me?”
“Of course you can. Will you let Momoshiro, Eiji and Echizen know, please?”
You could hear the smile in his voice before the line went dead. Taking a deep breath, you walked back inside and stopped beside the table, giving Eiji a look.
He cocked his head to the side, curious. “Who was that?”
“Taka,”
“What’d he want?”
“Oishi asked him to call me.” You sighed deeply. “He asked me to inform your guys… we’re going bowling again.”
“No!” Eiji cried, letting his head fall onto the table. “I don’t wanna!”
You patted him on the back, “The good news is that Inui’s going to have more victims. I’m inviting Mizuki, Shinya, and Yuuta.”
“Well, at least we won’t be suffering alone… right?” He pouted at you, trying to look less traumatized.
“Hey, Shinji. Invite Kamio, too.” Momo muttered through a mouthful of food.
“Shinji isn’t going,” you declared, folding your arms over your chest.
The bluenette looked at you with a mostly blank face, his navy eyes lit up with curiosity. He didn’t voice this, though.
“Eh? But you have to bring him along!” Eiji protested.
Ryoma swallowed his food, took a sip of his drink, and stared up at you. “If you leave him alone too long, senpai, that girl will probably take advantage.”
Your eye twitched, ‘Damn that brat, he has a good point!’ With a frustrated sigh, you said, “Fine, but bring Tetsu with you!”
Shinji slowly nodded.
“Maybe this won’t be so bad, after all!” Eiji chirped, offering the group a grin.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
“Will you hurry up?” Mizuki sighed as the group walked down the street.
You muttered incoherently under your breath, walking very slowly behind the two boys.
“Hey, guys!” Yuuta waved before crossing the street. “What’s wrong with Y/N?”
Shinya chuckled, covering his mouth. “Y/N’s not much of a morning person,”
You scoffed, leaning on Shinya when he put your arm around his shoulder to help support your slouching frame. “We weren’t even supposed to leave yet. This fool woke me up too early!”
“There’s no harm in being there early.” Mizuki glared at you over his shoulder before huffing.
“No harm my left buttcheek,” you muttered darkly, glaring daggers at the male’s back.
“Why your left cheek?” Shinya wondered, making you shrug.
“You’re so weird,” Yuuta shook his head.
When your group finally arrived at the bowling alley, it was about 8:45 in the morning. Oishi, Eiji, Kaidoh, Inui, Tetsu, Shinji, coach Ryuzaki, and Kamio had already arrived. You pulled away from Shinya and sat down against the side of the building.
Once everyone had arrived – a large group of students from several different schools -, the group filed inside and got ready to bowl. You weren’t sure how, but coach Ryuzaki was able to book the entire building for the event, meaning there were no other people to interrupt.
“Alright everyone, listen up.” Coach Ryuzaki called out and the room slowly quieted down.
Oishi stood beside her with Inui on his other side. “Here’s the deal. You’ll be put into teams of two. If you drop out, refuse to play or get a gutterball, you’ll be drinking a shot of Inui’s Aozu drink.”
Inui grinned evily, holding up a small shot glass full of thick blue-green liquid. The Seigaku team shifted uncomfortably.
“If you lose, you drink an entire pitcher.” Inui held up the pitcher and Seigaku took a step back, leaving the others looking around confused. “If you win, you will not be required to drink Aozu.”
You moved to stand next to Fuji, giving him a weary look. “Hey, Shusuke?”
He nodded knowingly. “Yes, I know.”
“Alright, I’ll announce the teams.” Coach Ryuzaki stepped forward with a sheet of paper in her hand. “Inui-Kaidoh. Kawamura-Horio. Eiji-Fuji. Kachiro-Mizuno. Echizen-Momo. Mizuki-Mori. Jen-Choutarou. Shinji-Kamio. Shinya-Yuuta. Myself-Oishi. Everyone clear?”
Everyone nodded and found their respective partners.
“Quite the turn out, hmm?” Fuji murmered from beside you.
“They have no clue what they’re in for,” you muttered apologetically.
Eiji nodded in agreement, clutching your arm tightly. “Do you think Ryuzaki-sensei and Oishi will cheat again?”
“Probably,” you and Fuji chorused.
“Inui-Kaidoh pair. You’re up first.” Ryuzaki grinned.
Both boys glanced at each other before moving forward. Inui managed to knock down one pin in the corner, while Kaidoh knocked down five.
Taka and Horio went next. Taka was about to throw the ball when Horio stopped him. “Here, Kawamura-senpai!” he handed Taka his racket, making him go into burning mode and get a strike.
“That’s cheating!” you and Eiji chorused, angrily.
“Not-uh!” Horio stuck his tongue out at you.
Eiji and Fuji were next. Fuji grabbed the ball in his hands and threw it. The ball ended up going into the gutter. “Still haven’t gotten much better.” he murmured, thoughtfully.
Inui grinned evily again, appearing behing Fuji who sweatdropped. Everyone else froze, watching on in horror as he drank the blue-green liquid. He only took a couple sips before his body hit the ground.
“Fuji!” Taka ran to his side and shook him, to no avail.
Eiji ran over, as well, whining about that drink being murderous.
“Honestly, if Fuji can’t even stomach it, the rest of us are really in for it.” you announced, sitting next to Choutarou. He looked frightened. Then again, so did the others.
Eiji swallowed hard as he threw the ball. He hit a strike and jumped for joy, happy not to have to drink the demonic liquid.
Kachiro and Mizuno were next. Kachiro managed to get a strike on the first try.
Ryoma and Momo were after them. Momo managed to knock down all but two pins. Ryoma tried to get them both, but still only managed to get one.
Mizuki and Mori were up next. Of course, Mizuki had to be a show off and get a strike. He turned toward the group with a chuckle, twirling his hair around his finger. “Of course I got a strike, it’s all about the numbers.”
“Showoff,” you muttered as the two boys walked by. Mizuki stuck his tongue out at you and Mori only grinned.
Then it was time for you and Choutarou.
“I’m counting on you, Chou-chan.” you told him, resting you hand on his shoulder. “No pressure, though!”
He nodded, glancing down at you. “Don’t worry. I’ve got it.”
You grinned, taking a step back to give him room. He grabbed one of the balls and took a deep breath, throwing it down the lane. You instinctively grabbed onto the back of his shirt, praying to every god and deity you could think of. Your prayers were answered – he made it! A strike, he got a strike!
Letting out a relieved breath, he turned around just in time to catch you as you launched a hug at him.
“Way to go Choutarou!”
Shinji and Akira were up after you. Shinji was staring at the ball and muttering, so Akira tried to grab it. The two fought for the ball until Akira accidentally dropped it. He gulped, staring at the ball as it landed in the gutter.
Inui appeared behind him, grinning like a psychopath as he held the shot glass out to Kamio. He took it from his hand, gulping again before guzzling it down. Two seconds later, he collapsed.
Two drop out; Shusuke Fuji and Akira Kamio.
Shinya and Yuuta were the next ones to take their turn.
“Let me,” Shinya said, grabbing the bowling ball from Yuuta. He managed to hit a strike, making Yuuta let out a sigh of relief.
Last to go was Oishi and Ryuzaki-sensei. They both grinned and went over to their bags, getting out their bowling gloves.
Eiji gulped from your left, “We are so~ doomed.”
“Yup,” you nodded, watching as Oishi grabbed his ball and stepped forward. Of course he got a strike.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
The battle continued on for a while and you had to admit, it was pretty fierce. Just like the last time, Oishi and Ryuzaki were cheating, catching people off guard just as they were throwing their balls. It wasn’t going well for the others.
After twenty minutes, almost everyone had dropped.
Ten Drop Out; Shusuke Fuji. Akira Kamio. Kaoru Kaidoh. Tatsunori Mori. Eiji Kikumaru. Yuuta Fuji. Inui Sadaharu. Takashi Kawamura. Shinya Yanagizawa. Satoshi Horio.
“Hey, Y/N?” Choutarou whispered, grabbing tightly onto your arm.
“Hmm?”
“We’re not that far behind. If Momo and Ryoma can ace this shot, their score will be above ours, but we can easily get our place back. It’s those seventh graders we have to look out for.”
“I know. Do you think you can take it?” you glanced at him curiously.
He nodded, giving you a determined look. “Definately.”
“I’ll take care of Momo and Ryoma, then.”
He nodded again, pulling away from you and grabbing one of the balls. He got another strike. Who would have thought that he was so good at bowling? You almost couldn’t believe that he’s never played before, but you were thankful that he was on your side.
You glared at coach Ryuzaki as she tricked Mizuki into getting a gutter ball. If she can play dirty, then so can you! Just as Momo went to throw the ball, you grinned and yelled out, “Momo, watch out for that puddle!”
“Huh?” He tripped over his own feet, the ball flying from his hands and into the gutter. It took him a moment to realize what had happened and then he turned around, glaring at you. “Cheater!”
“Like I’m the only one doing it?” you retorted, sitting back down next to Choutarou.
Momoshiro gulped as Ryuzaki held the shot glass in his face. He frowned, downing it and passing out before he got halfway through the drink.
Twelve Drop Out; Shusuke Fuji. Akira Kamio. Kaoru Kaidoh. Tatsunori Mori. Eiji Kikumaru. Yuuta Fuji. Inui Sadaharu. Takashi Kawamura. Shinya Yanagizawa. Satoshi Horio. Hajime Mizuki. Takeshi Momoshiro.
Choutarou picked up the ball and approached the line. He faked a throw, the corner of his mouth twitching up when Ryuzaki screamed, trying to distract him – he had anticipated it. You sent her a glare and she shrugged.
“I saw a roach,”
You glanced around the room, from the pile of bodies near the door to the eight people left standing. Kachiro squeaked when his foot slipped and he fell onto his behind, the ball landing in the next lane over. Your eyes narrowed at the small puddle of water near the line before snapping to Ryuzaki who was whistling innocently.
‘Isn’t she supposed to be teaching us sportsmanship? Jeez,’
Inui’s shadow covered the small boy like a menacing creature from the darkest depths of hell. Before the drink could even be offered, the boy flopped backward, unconscious. Mizuno, his partner, gulped in fear.
Shinji stood up and made a move toward the ball rack, but you stopped him, resting your hand over his. His eyes met yours and the concern touched his heart, bringing pink to his cheeks.
“Take your time and don’t let coach Ryuzaki distract you,” you told him softly, keeping your voice low.
He nodded, seeming to hesitate for a moment before leaning down and pecking your cheek. He mumbled something, but it was too low for you to hear it and he didn’t give you time to question it before he was approaching the line.
His form looked good and you were sure that the ball was at least going to hit, but it only just clipped the side pin before hitting the gutter. The pin in question wobbled a bit and you held your breath. The pin stilled.
Inui pounced, grabbing Shinji’s shoulder and nearly smacking the bluenette in the face with the cup. “Drink up, and enjoy~”
“No, wait!” You rushed forward, snatching the cup from his hand. The liquid felt slimey on your hand when it slipping over the rim. “I’ll drink it instead,”
“Senpai, no!” Choutarou grabbed your free hand, his brown eyes filled with worry.
“I have to do this,” you shook your head, pulling away from him. “Shinji… I really like you!” Before anyone could stop you, you tilted your head back and downed the contents of the cup. Those that were still conscious cried out in surprise and terror.
And then everything went quiet.
You blinked a few times, staring at the small drops in the bottom of the cup. Your head felt foggy.
“Senpai?” Choutarou whispered, scared that if he raised his voice, you might break.
Shinji approached, carefully taking the cup from your hand. “Are you okay?”
You wrinkled your nose and smacked your lips a few times. “Taste like lemon,”
Everyone fell to the floor dramatically aside from Ryuzaki, who just stared at you as if you had grown an extra head.
“What? Why are you lookin’ at me like that?”
“Oh look at the time, I have to go pick up Sakuno. Bye!” Ryuzaki turned tail and all but ran from the building.
“Isn’t Sakuno at home?” you wondered, bringing your attention back to Shinji when he took your hand. “Shinji, what -”
His lips met yours, silencing you. “I really like you, too.”
Oishi sighed deeply from his place on the ground, running his hand across his face. “What a strange world we live in,”
You grinned at the comment, wrapping your arms around Shinji’s waist.

The Cast of Yu-Gi-Oh...Sorted!
Hey guys! I’ve done several other posts like this for other fandoms and I’ve even Sorted some of these characters in other Sorting Hat asks in the past, but...well, I just decided, why not compile all of those thoughts in one big post to answer the question: where would the main cast of characters from Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters be Sorted, if they attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yugi Mutou ~ Hufflepuff!
I’ve seen a lot of fictional Sortings favor putting “the hero” in Gryffindor with his “best friend” types all being in Hufflepuff, but Yugi, in my opinion, is a perfect example of how heroic Hufflepuff values can be. Whereas Atem uses clever strategies to outwit his opponents and save the day, Yugi’s greatest strength and magic is his compassion. It’s what transformed a bully like Jounouchi into a loyal comrade, what opened up fiery, distrustful Rebecca to friendship, what strengthened the bonds between the many different friends he’s made, and what moved the ruthless spirit of darkness inhabiting his body so much that that spirit saw him as his partner and equal. Like many Hufflepuffs I know, Yugi always puts his friends first, putting their safety and well-being over his own every time -- self-sacrifice is a tenant of Hufflepuff house, and Yugi has that in spades. Still, Yugi is just and noble enough to also protect those who might not necessarily “deserve” his help: he values all life, regardless of whose it is or how terrible that person has been to him. Yugi is warm, dedicated, loyal, and modest, and being a connoisseur of games, he also esteems fair play, hence why he reacts so bitterly to Insector Haga throwing his grandfather’s Exodia cards off the boat in an underhanded way to keep Yugi from using them to win any more duels.
Tumblr media
Yami Yugi / Pharaoh Atem ~ Slytherin!
Atem is the yin to Yugi’s yang, the darkness to his light, and therefore the Slytherin to his Hufflepuff. Whereas Yugi’s soul room is light, airy, and open, Atem’s is a dark labyrinth of endless tunnels and traps -- and yeah, Hufflepuff’s and Slytherin’s commonrooms, despite both being underground, have that same dichotomy, with Hufflepuff’s being sunny and cheerful with a location next to the kitchens and Slytherin’s being dark and dungeon-like by the underground lake. Atem’s eternal goal is to win every game he plays, regardless of whether or not he initiates the game or not, and he will do anything to win, even if it ends up compromising his morals. (See his duel with Kaiba during Duelist Kingdom or the Orikalkos duel with Raphael for evidence of this.) When he or his friends are threatened, Atem also retaliates ruthlessly and mercilously, as Insector Haga or any of his Shadow Game victims from the early manga or season 0 can tell you. Fortunately, despite his intense drive to win at all costs, Atem does always follow the rules of whatever game he’s in and he almost always wins because he’s both clever and resourceful enough to outwit his opponents. Appropriate to Slytherins as well, he has a great desire and focus on his past, wanting to learn more about it so as to better understand who he is, what he’s supposed to do, and how he can approach the future. If Yugi showcases Hufflepuff heroism with mercy and kindness, then Atem showcases Slytherin heroism with brilliance and passion.
Tumblr media
Katsuya Jounouchi ~ Gryffindor!
Admittedly Jounouchi does fit the hot-tempered, aggressive, yet noble stereotype of Gryffindor pretty well off-the-bat, but there’s more to it than that for me. Jounouchi is a very active person, ready to jump in to protect his friends from whatever slight is thrown their way -- all of the Gryffindors I know have a very “knight”-like affect to them where they just can’t sit back and do nothing when people are being mistreated. I would also argue that in the series, Jounouchi is motivated to become a stronger duelist not just because of him wanting to help his sister (which is why he entered Duelist Kingdom), but because he wants to improve himself. As he tells Kaiba at one point at the end of Battle City, even after he lost to Marik on a technicality (JOUNOUCHI SHOULD’VE WON THAT DUEL AND BECOME THE OWNER OF THE WINGED DRAGON OF RA AND I WILL SCREAM THAT ‘TIL THE DAY I DIE), “his Battle City isn’t over,” because he hasn’t yet earned his Red Eyes back from Yugi in the duel they promised to have after the tournament was over. And honestly, I’d say Jounouchi’s “Battle City” will probably never be over for him, because every duel he fights only makes him love the game more and makes him push himself to become even better. Jounouchi’s nobility also shines through multiple times in the show, whether it’s promising to save Ryuzaki’s soul from Dartz after he defeats him in their duel, ordering his Red Eyes Black Dragon to protect Mokuba from a blast from the Five-Headed Dragon even if it meant dooming himself, or getting Yugi the last piece of the Millennium Puzzle back after he threw it into a pond.
Tumblr media
Hiroto Honda ~ Hufflepuff!
Honestly, thanks to his lack of character development in the Duel Monsters anime and the shifts in his limited characterization between his manga, season 0, and anime selves, this Sorting is really tricky. In season 0 exclusively, Honda is portrayed as more of a rule-keeper and is the head of the “beautification department” (which I guess is sort of like a janitorial thing, but for students?). It hints to a love of order that seems very Ravenclaw-esque and could’ve been an interesting twist to set him apart from Jounouchi and the others, but alas, it’s something that really isn’t reflected that much in either manga!Honda or DM!Honda’s characterization. In all three mediums, though, even though he’s depicted as having been Jounouchi’s friend long before he met Yugi and Anzu, Honda still comes off as more level-headed and cautious than Jounouchi. If Jounouchi is a raging hothead, Honda is the down-to-earth voice of reason. We also see in all three mediums that Honda has a romantic side, whether it’s with classmate Miho Nosaka or Jounouchi’s little sister Shizuka, and really, it’s in that capacity that we see that Honda can be pretty darn stupid too. (Not trying to bash Honda, truly, but this guy does not know how to play the game of love at all.) In the end, no matter which series we see him in, Honda’s main motivation is sticking by his buddies. He’s no duelist and he has little interest in being so, but he deeply cares about his friends’ safety and will always be right there to protect them and cheer them on however he can. So as much as I lament that I don’t have more to work with when it comes to Honda, his loyalty and down-to-earth demeanor do seem very consistent with Hufflepuff.
Tumblr media
Anzu Mazaki ~ Gryffindor!
Anzu is another character whose characterization fluctuates between the manga and the two anime series. In all three mediums, she’s a dedicated, romantic person who although not being talented in Duel Monsters herself is always there to cheer her friends on in their struggles. In the manga, she’s depicted as a little more flighty and girly, using love charms and getting her romantic fortune told, and at one point even recklessly putting herself in danger in the hopes that “the other Yugi” will appear and rescue her. In season 0, we see her being braver and more vocal in standing up to people -- she tries to protect a girl from punishment after she gets caught trying to confess her feelings to Jounouchi in a love letter; she helps catch a criminal hiding out in the fast food restaurant she works in by lying about what ingredients are used in their burgers; and she resolutely decides to have her soul transferred into a doll alongside Yugi and her friends when Yami Bakura challenges them to a Monster World Shadow Game. In the Duel Monsters anime, some of that courage is shaved off of Anzu and she’s depicted as less reckless and more grounded, but there are still points where her nobility can shine through, like when she decides to fight in Yugi’s place to win Mai’s star chips or she stops Atem from attacking Insector Haga over and over again after he’s already won. Although I could very easily see Anzu fitting into Hufflepuff as well (especially in the Duel Monsters anime), upon a lot of reflection, I think that, since I would put two out of the three versions of her in this house and even the third version could still work there, Gryffindor is her ultimate best place.
Tumblr media
Seto Kaiba ~ Slytherin!
I’m sure a lot of you were expecting Ravenclaw, and yes, I do think Kaiba is on the cusp between Ravenclaw and Slytherin, but let me explain why Kaiba is a Snake in my mind and not an Eagle. Kaiba is a very intelligent person with a great love of achievement, yes, but his sole focus is always on getting what he wants, whether it’s defeating Yugi, winning all three Egyptian God cards and then defeating Yugi, opening up his own theme park where he can defeat Yugi -- LOL, okay, I’m partially kidding, but...yeah, Kaiba’s focus is solely on what he wants, even if it is to win at something. Ravenclaws tend to have a very “worldly” view of the world and try to find their own distinct place in it, whereas Slytherins don’t give a damn about the rest of the world as long as their inner circle is safe. Throughout the series, Kaiba consistently chooses his little brother and the well-being of his company over everything else. In fact, in the Japanese dub of the Duel Monsters anime, the reason Kaiba barely reacts to all the crazy magic stuff going on around him isn’t because he doesn’t believe it’s happening like English!Kaiba, but because he simply doesn’t care. All he cares about is beating Yugi and looking after his company and brother. Everything else going on in the background, even if it does involve unknown magics that could shake someone’s entire world view and their place in it, just isn’t that important to him. Plus Ravenclaws aren’t just known for their intelligence and love of achievement -- they’re also known for wisdom and open-mindedness, both of which are very unKaiba. Kaiba is incredibly judgmental of everyone he meets, only deigning to show respect to those very few people he deems as being on his level, and although in the Japanese dub of the Duel Monsters anime, Kaiba showed moments of deeper thought and good judgement, the only wisdom English!Kaiba showcases on a regular basis is his assortment of snarky wisecracks. But if we look at Slytherin’s values, I think they line up with Kaiba and his characterization a bit better. Ambition -- well, considering that he challenged a CEO to a game of chess just to get him and his brother adopted, forcefully took over that same CEO’s arms and weapons business, and turned the whole thing into a gaming company complete with its own gaming products, Duel Monsters tournaments, and friggin’ THEME PARK, all before he even became a legal adult, I’d say that fits. Resourcefulness -- as Kaiba brings up to both Amelda and Ziegfried, he started off with nothing and could only use his talents and smarts to outwit his stepfather, take over KaibaCorp, and make it successful. Cleverness -- Kaiba may not be the King of Games, but he’s probably the only duelist who truly stands toe-to-toe with Atem in the dueling arena without cheating. Even Bakura, another one of Atem’s most prominent rivals, has to cheat in both the manga and the anime series to try to stay ahead of him. A certain disregard for the rules -- honestly, Kaiba tends to follow the rules of whatever game he’s playing, BUUUUT he does still seem to find joy in bucking other people’s expectations and doing whatever the hell he wants because he can. I mean, this is the guy who bought an entire city to host a gaming tournament, quickly wrote a ridiculously high check to a car salesman before driving off in one of his cars without another word (does he even HAVE a driver’s license??), and who blew up his own Duel Tower on KaibaCorp island just so he and Mokuba could fly away on their Blue Eyes White Dragon jet out of the rubble. (There is a reason why in Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, his catchphrase is “screw the rules, I’ve got money” -- just sayin’.) And honestly, as much as Kaiba claims he doesn’t look back at the past, he is still clearly haunted and defined by it. The wounds of Gozaburo’s mistreatment were so deep that Kaiba felt like he had to blow up the ruined remnants of his old headquarters just to try to move on with his life. Atem defeating him affected him so much that he spent five whole seasons and an entire movie obsessing over their rivalry and how he would eventually defeat him. Hell, in DSOD, he even tried to put the Millennium Puzzle back together in a vain attempt to get Atem to come back and duel him again, and when he failed in that, he actually made a device so he could crash Atem’s friggin’ AFTER-LIFE just to try to duel him! “Bury the past,” my ass! As much as I could see Kaiba fitting pretty well in Ravenclaw too, I think part of the reason he and Atem are so at each other’s throats all the time is because of their two massive Slytherin egos constantly trying to one-up each other.

This will be in parts, this is part one and I will be posting more parts to this story later! It will probably just be a short story but I really hope you guys like it! Please leave (kind!) comments, like, write in the tags! I love it when you guys do that so yeah, feel free to give some feedback! Enjoy~
(P.s. something about writing at night makes me write in a more proper tone, making the characters speak a bit more properly so... perfect for writing for L!)
Story is under keep reading!
...
You knew L never meant to take this so far. Your relationship was never meant to last from the very start. You should have known it was merely a test, another one of his experiments.
But like the fool you were, you believed in his false love for you.
It all started when you joined the task force, the very task force assigned to help the legendary L to catch Kira. It was a shot at the top and your career as a detective was just starting to take off. You only needed one chance. That one chance would either make it or break it for you.
“Hello L, I am detective L/N. Nice to meet you, I hope we can work together to solve this case.”
L sat awkwardly as he faced you for the first time, sitting up on the balls of his feet, expertly balancing on the edge of the rolling chair. His shaggy black hair swished in front of his shifting, calculating eyes. Underneath those eyes were dark bags, suggesting that he had not slept in many months. Though everyone insisted he was a genius, his overly dilated pupils had led you to believe that the man was slightly… psychotic.
Gripping your right pointer finger between his right fore and thumb finger, he accepted your… handshake.
“A pleasure to meet you as well detective. As you know, I am L-”
“I recognize your work from the BB case,” you cut him off with a smile, eager to impress the famous detective. “Quite astonishing work sir.”
“Please, detective, call me Ryuzaki.”
From then on, you worked beside the strange man, typing away at the many computers that lined the walls. You took shifts watching the security cameras, keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity. Most of your shifts ended up being in the late hours of night into early morning. It was then that the never sleeping L was most talkative. Whether it was the quiet hours or if it was just that you were beside him, you never knew what had made him chose to talk so much at that point in time.
“You see here detective L/N, this is-”
“Y/N…”
“What?” The black-haired man questioned, seemingly for the first time, caught off guard.
“Call me Y/N,” you repeated, hugging your knees close to your chest underneath the blanket you had draped across yourself as you sat in the roller chair nearest Ryuzaki.
The man blinked at you, once, twice. “As you wish. Y/N, then, look here at this evidence. Please analyze what you are seeing here-” he continued on with the conversation then without further hesitation.
You looked over the data with a new found confidence, assured your relationship with L was growing stronger. You were glad to be learning so much from him. Though it didn’t take long for things to take a turn.
It was another long night beside L, watching the security cameras, analyzing information, and constantly being quizzed randomly by the detective. Your eyes had adjusted to the darkened room perfectly after spending four long months there. Much like L, your own eyes had grown dark bags underneath them. Though you knew you were getting much more sleep than him, not sleeping at the correct time took its toll.
The night dragged on for what seemed like years, and still it was only the beginning of your shift, 1am. Besides that it seemed to be a rather normal night, whatever that meant, besides the fact that L’s usually carefully trained eyes weren’t as focused on the documents and live security footage. Instead, his eyes kept flicking over to where you sat to the right of him.
You forced yourself to ignore it as you carefully watched a boy, Chief Yagami’s son, look directly into a hidden camera as he pulled out a stack of homework from his backpack. Accident? Coincidence? Purposely? You didn’t know, but you were determined to find out. Though the ever shifting eyes over your body was greatly distracting your train of thought.
“Is something wrong Ryuzaki?” You questioned the shifting detective who did nothing to hide the fact that he was now openly staring at you as you worked.
“Why would you think that something might be wrong Y/N?” His monotone voice caused your face to heat up. It had been at least two weeks since you had insisted he call you by your first name, yet every time he said it, a thrill ran through you.
“I don’t know… but you’re staring an awful lot you know,” your voice rang a teasing note as you playfully wagged a finger in his direction.
“It is normal to be fixated on someone who one would find abnormally attractive, is it not?” His words caught you off guard and you choked on air.
“Attractive?”
“That’s what I said.”
“You find me-?”
“Attractive, if I do say so myself,” he smirked at his statement, eyes glued to your now red face. You settled farther into your chair, allowing yourself to slouch as you pulled your arms up and crossed them over your chest, lip stuck out in a small pout.
“You do not.”
“You doubt my enchantment?”
“Yes,” you answered stubbornly. “I think you’re just trying to be funny. I’ve known you long enough. I know your tricks-”
“Is that so?” He raised a thick eyebrow with an amused expression on his face.
“I believe it is sir! While you have been observing me, I have since been observing you-”
“Ah, quiet the double tasker I see.”
“Of course, I would be nothing less. If I could not do such simple things, I would not be here right now.”
“Correct you are Y/N, but you are avoiding my advancements-”
“Advancements?!” You cried out with a laugh. “You have done nothing of the sort, the only ‘advancement’ you have is when you attempted to compliment me, though in an extremely vague way, if I might say.”
Had he moved closer all of a sudden?
“Vague? How so?”
Had he always been that close?
“Vague, as in, if you wanted to go ahead and complement me, you could have done so with more meaningful words,” your eyes followed the trace of his tongue over his lips.
Why were his lips the only thing you could think of right now?
“Ah, I think I am beginning to understand.”
His eyes were bright, had they always had this much shine to them?
“Are you?” you challenged, leaning towards him ever so slightly.
“Y/N…” he whispered. You could feel his breath fanning over your lips.
Does he taste sweet?
“You’re so beautiful,” he sighed into your mouth, leaning forward just a bit more.
His lips pressed softly to yours and your eyes fluttered shut as his lanky, yet strong, arms came to wrap around your waist, pulling you closer to himself.
He did, he did taste sweet, you concluded as his tongue snuck in through your parted lips, dancing with your own.
You pulled away for a breath, eyes opening to meet his half-lidded ones. You sat in his lap now, having transferred seats in the heat of the makeout, chest pushed together. You could feel his strong heartbeat through his chest. You were sure he could feel your wild one in yours.
Suddenly, placing a pale hand on the center of your chest at the base of your neck, L grinned. Fingering your pulse with his pointer finger, he let out a satisfied sigh.
“Beautiful~”

*renewed and less angry* Opinion on the Ryuzaki Persona Theory
Disclaimer) Okay, reading my old journal entry about this topic. . . I was apparently just really angry about something when I wrote it?? And I honestly think that's hilarious bc yeah, I was mad about the theory but I just had no chill whenever I was writing it as a coping method. So this is my new level-headed, experienced-DN-theorist opinion on it.
Also, I don’t have a Death Note blog so this is going on my Sherlock blog / Fandom blog instead of one-shots that I need to actually be writing. Deal with it.
So, the RPT is basically the theory that whenever L introduces himself as “Ryuzaki” to the Task Force, he is not acting like himself at all, and he actually just stole the entire Ryuzaki personality from Beyond Birthday after solving his case in the same way he allegedly stole the identities of detectives Coil and Deneuve.
So, I agree with most of this, and I’ll explain further later. This part never really bothered me, but the disagreement comes whenever the fandom tries and debates what the Real L (Or First!L) is actually like.
A lot of the theory fandom that I saw at the time basically said that L was nothing like Ryuzaki. British, suave, completely healthy...? Lmao, what?
So, might as well get this started by answering the main question.
Q) Do I think Ryuzaki is a persona?
A) Yes, to an extent.
I don’t think Ryuzaki is vastly different from L. But, L has a pattern of stealing the identities (Particularly names, which is really fitting considering that Names are given a lot of power in the Death Note fandom.) So, I don’t think it’s unlikely that he took the Ryuzaki persona from Beyond Birthday.
And I’d have no trouble subscribing to this part of the theory 100% if it weren't’ for the fact that it is said in LABB that BB took the persona from L first as an attempt to imitate him.
So, my guess is that BB took traits from L to create Ryuzaki, confirming that L is at least similar to Ryuzaki, and Beyond was probably exaggerating a couple of the iconic Ryuzaki traits.  And then after being beaten, the persona was returned to L. But by then, my guess was that it had been modified by Beyond, even if he hadn’t noticed it.
Basically what I’m saying is that while the theory is usually about saying that someone stole a persona from somebody else, my point of view is that basically the Ryuzaki Persona was passed back and forth like some weird game of telephone where it got slightly edited each time.
So, because I don’t know how else to organize this, I’m going to list the traits I think belong to First L and which ones are just Ryuzaki.
L
1. Intelligence) This goes without saying, right? L is incredibly intelligent, and so is Ryuzaki.
2. Weird Mannerisms) Now, this is part of where the theory gets unclear because a lot of “First!L” theories disagree on what belongs to L and what belongs to the Ryuzaki persona. And basically, I think L did inherit some of his weird mannerisms from Beyond’s version of Ryuzaki, I don’t think he’s entirely normal underneath the person he presents. Especially since his weirdness continues into his Ryuga persona and basically throughout all we’ve seen of him in the show. Not to mention that literally every Wammy Kid is shown to have quirks that resemble the ones that L / B / Ryuzaki have. I don’t know what mannerisms came from who
3. Accent / speaking) For some reason there’s a theory that First!L actually has a British accent due to being raised in the UK. Accept his voice is literally consistent throughout the show, and none of the other Wammy Kids are shown to have an accent. I also don’t think that his manner of speaking would drastically change because of the persona.
Ryuzaki)
1. Autism / Aspergers) So it’s nothing new that there’s a fandom discourse about whether or not L actually is on the spectrum. At the time of my original post, I assumed that he was not faking it. But after conversing with LuckyKitty some more about this topic, she has convinced me that this is actually a part of the Ryuzaki persona. I don’t know if he’s purposely faking it or if his mannerisms just cause the appearance of Aspergers, but either way, I don’t think L or any of his personas actually find themselves on any part of the spectrum.
2. Strawberries) This is a weird one, but hear me out. He acquired this from Beyond’s part of the persona because I promise you strawberries are not that sweet and L’s food love is for sweet stuff and the fact that he doesn’t just throw the strawberries off of his food is Ryuzaki’s doing, not L’s.
Final thoughts
Would I say I subscribe to the Ryuzaki Persona theory? No, not really. Frankly, I actually dislike a lot of things about the theory itself. I think it feels like a fandom trying to make a character “Normal” and more “likeable” while taking them completely out of character out of the process. I think a lot of theories about “First L” take away huge chunks of L / Ryuzaki’s complex character.
I think my overall thoughts about this are basically that Ryuzaki and L are still the same people. Ryuzaki is a name given to the Task Force, and it brings along with some amplified traits of L’s real personality. Maybe the name was a way to pay respect to Beyond’s death, which I believe happened right before L started on the Kira Investigation? (It would be really interesting if that’s actually what drove him to investigate Kira but that’s a discussion for a different time).
Basically, because I’m garbage at summarizing my thoughts, I’m going to use a quote from Irene Adler in Sherlock. “Every disguise, no matter how hard you try, is a self-portrait.” Honestly, I think that’s what Ryuzaki is. A way that Ryuzaki acts around certain people. Are you telling me you don’t act differently around different people?
So yes, I think Ryuzaki can be a considered a persona, and it was traded between B and L. But I don’t think there’s some hard difference between L and Ryuzaki’s personality. Ryuzaki, in my opinion, was an extension of L, as was Ryuga, Coil, and all of L’s other personas or identities or whatever you want to call them. So I can’t know L” ends and “Ryuzaki” begins or whatever. The best I can do is a Sherlock quote, apparently.
Yeah, so that’s my calmer analysis of this theory. I think my problem isn’t so much with the “Ryuzaki Persona” theory but rather with the “First!L” theory.
I hope this makes more sense than the last opinion I posted on this. And I really hope to god it comes across calmer because I’m really laughing out loud for not remembering what I was so mad at in real life for me to sound that angry while trying to write.
So yeah, that’s my TedTalk.

Who Said Death Was Easy? [Death Note] Chapter Forty-five
Chapter Forty-five: Frenzy
Keiko’s POV:
“Ryuzaki-san,” Light started, glancing over at the raven haired detective. “I must say, I never knew that you could pilot a helicopter. That’s incredible.”
At this, Keiko cracked a small smile as she glanced over at L. Even though he’s a bit of a jerk at times, he is rather impressive...I wonder what else he’s capable of doing…there’s a lot about him that I don’t know…
“Wait a second,” Light muttered. “Higuchi isn’t heading towards Sakura T.V….he’s going the other direction.”
Keiko glanced at the map sitting out in front of them, “hmm...could he be heading towards Yotsuba’s main office?”
L nodded. “Yes. I’d say that’s likely where he’s headed.” He pressed a button on the computer, “Wedy...everything related to Matsuda at Yotsuba’s main office has been destroyed, right?”
“Yes. Why? Is he headed there now?”
“Yes.”
“How convenient. That should give me enough time to go ahead and meet up with Yagami-san to set up the ambush.”
“Perfect.”
With that, L hung up. According to Higuchi’s tracker, he was currently heading towards the inside of the Yotsuba building.
“How much longer until the announcement?” L questioned.
“About fifteen or so minutes,” Light responded, checking the channel.
“Yes. That should be enough time,” the detective murmured. “It looks like Higuchi’s realized that there’s no longer any files or tapes on Matsuda in the Yotsuba building...which means...now he should be headed towards the Sakura T.V. station...Light-kun, can you call your father?”
“Already on it.” Light replied, dialing the number.
Keiko studied him as he talked to his father. His gaze was fixed on Higuchi’s car down below, and Keiko could hear the determination in his voice. It was clear that he wanted to catch Kira just as much as she did.
If he was Kira, then he really doesn’t have any recollection of it...and, when we catch Higuchi, will he go back to being Kira immediately? Or does Higuchi have to give up his powers or something? If we can somehow still figure out how Kira kills, then perhaps it’ll become more clear how Kira’s power is passed along among individuals...it looks like I’ll have to keep a watchful eye on Light when we capture Higuchi…
Down below Higuchi’s car slowed to a stop in front of the Sakura T.V. building. He rushed out of the car, running towards the entrance, a briefcase in his arms. About thirty seconds later, Mogi and Aiber also arrived.
“We’re here at Sakura T.V. and we’re moving into position!”
“Yes, good. Go on.”
“Now we wait,” Light muttered.
It’s only been a couple minutes since Higuchi went inside the building, but it feels like an eternity! If he has the same powers as the Second Kira, and can kill with only a face then it could be dangerous! I know everyone’s wearing a helmet, just in case, but if something were to happen and someone’s helmet came off…
“Please, try and remain calm, Kagami-san,” L’s voice broke through her thoughts and she glanced over at the detective. His eyes met eyes, and he continued on, “the best thing you can do right now is try and keep a clear mind. If something happens, I’m sure we’ll be equipped to handle it.”
Try and stay calm...right. Keiko nodded. Easier said than done. Especially because, even if things go as planned and we capture Higuchi...there’s still a chance that Light could end up becoming Kira again.
“Ryuzaki-san!” Mogi’s voice came through the speakers, “Higuchi has a gun! The chief’s been shot. Higuchi’s escaping!”
“I’ll be alright, don’t worry,” the chief added. “I’m sorry, Ryuzaki-san...if we pursue him right now, we can still catch up to him! Let’s hurry!”
“This is bad…” Light whispered under his breath. “He’s escaping from Sakura T.V.! He’s getting away in his car right now!”
“Don’t worry,” L interjected. “Well…I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this, but this leaves us no choice. We’ll have to move in and apprehend him. Watari-san, are you ready?”
“Yes.”
Beside Keiko, Watari had moved into position. He had opened the side door to the helicopter, a long-range gun aimed and ready in his hands.
A gun?
“Light-kun,” L produced a handgun from a compartment. “You should hold onto this for self defense. After all, this is Kira we’re after.”
I’m not sure how I feel about these weapons...even if it is Kira we’re going after...surely, it won’t come to this, right? Keiko glanced at the weapon that the detective was holding.
“No.” Light’s voice was firm. “Firearms aren’t allowed in Japan and I’m not a policeman.”
“You know, I’m sure your father would have said the same thing,” L replied, placing the gun back into the compartment.
What was the meaning of that? Was that another test for Light? Does he think, if Light were to go back to being Kira, that he’d kill by using any means necessary? Or what…? Keiko let out a sigh, keeping an eye on the scene below. Higuchi’s car was speeding forward, behind him were the others chasing after him. However, up ahead there was also about a dozen police cars blocking off the road. Their lights were bright and even though they were high up in the helicopter, Keiko could still faintly hear the sirens as they went off.
“What is this?” Watari questioned. “I told the police not to make any sudden moves without your okay...the only one who would have the power to do this is-”
“Yes, you’re right…” L interjected, “It must be Aizawa-san.”
Aizawa? I have to admit, I’m not that surprised...so he did all this on his own? Amazing.
Down below, Higuchi’s car came to a halt, stopping in front of the police block. L maneuvered the helicopter, and they slowly descended until they were floating closer to the ground. It looked as though Higuchi was about to turn the car around when the sound of a gun firing filtered through the air. Moments later, Keiko realized that Watari had aimed for his tires, ensuring that he would be unable to escape. Higuchi’s car skid upon impact, hitting the side railing, his windshield shattering.
“It’s over. Give it up, Higuchi.” Light muttered quietly as the cop cars surrounded his, now crashed, car.
“Ryuzaki-san,” the chief’s voice came in, “please. Let me go and make the arrest.”
“Chief, I’ll go, too,” Mogi added, “if that’s alright.”
“Go ahead,” the detective looked at the scene below, “but keep in mind that this is Kira you’re dealing with. Be careful when arresting him. Be sure not to let him see your face. And, Watari-san, if Higuchi makes even the slightest move…”
“Yes. I know what to do. I will shoot to stop him, not to kill him.”
Below, the chief and Mogi walked over to where Aizawa’s car is, helmets covering both of their faces. After a moment, the three of them, and a few other officers in helmets, walked over to where Higuchi was sitting in his car.
“Higuchi!” the chief was saying. “Put your hands up and get out of the car immediately! You’ve been caught!”
A few moments later, Higuchi popped out of the car, slowly raising his hands. Before he could do anything else, he was approached by the three policemen, who made sure to handcuff and blindfold him.
“Mogi-san, as planned, give Higuchi a headset please.”
“Roger that.”
“Higuchi,” L started as soon as the headset was in place, “how do you kill people? ...tell me! Please know that I will use whatever means necessary to make you speak.”
Higuchi dipped his head, seemingly hesitant, but he responded anyway. “The...notebook.”
Keiko let out a small gasp, is he serious?!
“The notebook?” L repeated.
“Yes. You probably won’t believe me, but there’s this special notebook I have. If I write someone’s name in it while thinking of their face, that person dies.”
Wait! That means...when he was writing down Matsuda’s alias in the Yoshida Productions building, that was his attempt to get rid of him! Which means he wasn’t just making a note of the name, or keeping track of the people he’s killed! That is the method of killing! That’s...that’s...I can’t believe it!
“Yagami-san,” the detective started, but before he could finish, the chief cut him off.
“Yeah, we found the notebook. It was in his briefcase. There are names written in it, but it looks like any other ordinary noteboo-aaAH!” The chief let out a scream as he looked up, suddenly dropping the notebook.
“Dad, what’s wrong?!” Light questioned.
“I-it’s a monster!”
A monster?!
“Yagami-san, please calm down. Don’t panic...remember,” L watched as the chief instinctively reached inside his coat pocket, “you don’t have a gun on you right now.”
“Oh...yeah...of course.” The chief replied.
“Are you alright?” Mogi questioned. Keiko watched as the man leaned forward, a concerned look on his face.
“Can’t you see that?!” The chief questioned.
“The chief’s probably just tired, Ryuzaki-san. I’ll take the notebook for him,” Mogi responded. He bent down, picking up the notebook that Light’s father had dropped. When he looked up, he also let out a shocked yell.
“Mogi-san!” Light’s voice was sharp, “what’s going on?!”
Mogi pointed up in front of him, but there was seemingly nothing there. “I-I...it seems that only people who’ve touched this notebook can see this...the chief was right, it does look like a monster.”
It seems impossible...but...then again, this whole investigation has been that way. Could there really be a monster? No wait...perhaps, could this monster they’re referring to be…a shinigami? Earlier...when it appeared that Higuchi was talking to himself...that Rem Higuchi mentioned...could this be them? This means that...shinigami...exist...this notebook with the power to kill people...exists. Keiko’s mind raced, so much for keeping a clear head...there’s far too much going on for that, far too much at risk...
“Please bring the notebook over to the helicopter.”
Keiko noticed that the detective glanced over at Light as he said this.
Wait a moment...does L think that Light will regain his memories of being Kira if he touches this notebook? She shivered at the thought, unfortunately, if he was Kira then it’s possible. If this notebook truly holds the power of Kira, then...it’s dangerous if this falls into the wrong hands...and if Light regains the powers of Kira once more, then…
Keiko didn’t even want to finish that thought. She watched as Mogi walked towards the helicopter, notebook in hand.
“Here it is, Ryuzaki-san,” Mogi held out the notebook for the detective to take. Keiko watched as L leaned forward, pinching the notebook in between two fingers. He then looked towards where the chief and Aizawa were standing, his eyes widening slightly.
“It really is...a shinigami,” the detective whispered quietly. “So they really do exist.”
“Ryuzaki-san,” Light started, “you need to let Keiko-chan and I see it as well. Come on.”
With that, Light reached forward, grabbing the notebook out of L’s fingers. Keiko watched Light carefully as he held onto the notebook. While he was silent, his face said it all. His eyes were wide, his mouth open in disbelief.
His reaction...is it just me or is he more shocked than L was? I know shinigamis are supposedly not supposed to exist but...is it more than just seeing a shinigami? Does he perhaps...have his memories back?
Out of the corner of her eye she noticed that L was also watching Light like a hawk. She gave a quick glance at the detective, attempting to gauge his reaction to Light.
He does look rather suspicious...that means he must be on his guard.
Keiko was disrupted from her thoughts when Light let out a sudden, ragged breath. It almost sounded as though he was in pain.
“Light-kun, are you okay?” Keiko questioned, slowly taking the notebook from his hands.
“Y-yeah,” Light managed to get out, letting Keiko take the notebook. “Anyone would be surprised by that monster. When you’re done with the notebook, is it okay if you hand it back over to me? I’d like to match the names written in the notebook with the names of the victims recorded on the computer, if that’s alright…”
Hand the notebook back over? He’s being suspicious! I know he wants to check the names of the victims in the notebook, but if he’s Kira and he’s just gotten his memories back, then that’s almost too convenient. There’s no telling what he can do if he takes hold of the notebook. But what can I do? If I say no, I’ll look suspicious myself.
“Sure,” Keiko replied, grabbing hold of the notebook. She closed her eyes a moment, mentally preparing herself to see the shinigami with her own eyes. When she opened her eyes, she let out a gasp. The shinigami was standing in front of the chief. They had a white, skeletal appearance, markings on their face, and one eye appeared to be covered.
So shinigamis really are real! This must be the Rem that Higuchi was talking to…
Keiko swallowed, flipping through the notebooks pages. She wanted to take a quick look before handing the notebook back to Light.
I suppose if Light were Kira he wouldn’t leave any evidence in this notebook, but still. It’s worth a shot to take a peek! Keiko peeled through the pages, attempting to quickly scan their contents. She was both disappointed and relieved when she did not find anything.
This doesn’t mean he’s innocent, this just means that, if he was Kira, nothing written in this notebook can prove that...so that means he doesn’t want the notebook back to cover anything up...meaning that he really must be only checking the names written in his notebook to the names in our database...
After a moment, Keiko reached forward, passing the notebook back over to Light. When Light grabbed the notebook, she noticed that the bottom of one of the pages had been slightly ripped.
What the-?
Before she could get a good look, the notebook was gone, back into Light’s hands. Keiko leaned forward, looking back and forth between the detective and her ex-boyfriend.
Light didn’t rip the page before handing it to me, did he? No, no, you were watching. There’s no way he could have done that. Therefore, it must’ve been there before we got a hold of the notebook. However, the notebook is still back in Light’s possession...which, if he’s Kira, isn’t a good thing...wait a moment...if Light’s Kira, and Misa’s the Second Kira, then that must mean...there’s two notebooks! That has to be the case...meaning that there’s another notebook with this killing power. And it’s possible that Misa could get a hold of that other notebook...if that happens then...then they’d be unstoppable! Especially if Misa has the power to kill someone with only a face! Which would mean that, Keiko glanced over at the raven haired detective, her heart aching, I was right. It would mean that L’s life is in danger. While this is still all hypothetical, it’s a very real danger, one that I can’t take lightly.
L must have sensed that Keiko was watching him, because he looked over at her. As usual, she couldn’t quite read him, but she could sense the softness in his gaze. It wasn’t a usual expression, this one wasn’t meant to tease or frustrate her. While Keiko couldn’t quite be sure, it looked as though there was almost a sadness to it.
He must realize the danger he’s in as well…
Keiko swallowed hard, suddenly looking away. She couldn’t bear to face him any longer, she couldn’t bear to see his nearly-vulnerable expression.
No matter what, I can’t let Kira kill him...I can’t lose him. There has to be some sort of way…
“Yagami-san,” Keiko heard L saying a moment later, “please take Higuchi to the car.”
“Alright, Ryuzaki-san.”
“You know, about this notebook…” Light started, “I wonder what we’d find if we had it forensically analyzed.”
“Hmm, that’s not like you, Light-kun,” the detective responded. Keiko looked over at him once more, seeing his narrowed eyes. “It’s quite obvious at this point that this thing is beyond science.”
At this, Light let out a soft chuckle, “you’re right, Ryuzaki-san...it was just a thought.”
In front of them, Higuchi was almost to the police car when suddenly he started to convulse. He shook and started to appear to gasp for air.
“What the hell?!” Light’s eyes widened, “what’s happening! We can’t lose Higuchi, not now!”
“I-it’s impossible!” there was disbelief in the chief’s voice, “there’s nothing I can do! H-he’s already…”
There was no need for Light’s father to finish his sentence. It was quite clear that Higuchi was now already dead.
N-no! T-that can’t be! Keiko bit her lip, her eyes widening once more as she glanced at her ex-boyfriend, looking over at the notebook in his hands. I-I knew it was possible that Light was Kira, but this...Higuchi dying right as Light takes possession of this notebook...that really can’t be a coincidence, can it? He was also acting a little suspicious as soon as he took hold of the notebook...if he’s Kira then that has to mean that his memories are back! That means...Light Yagami...really must have been Kira…
It was only when Keiko started to taste blood that she realized how hard she had bitten her lip. She ignored the stinging sensation, still focusing solely on her ex-boyfriend. Keiko continued to keep a close eye on him on the ride back to headquarters.
If he’s Kira again, then it’s only a matter of time before he’ll try to strike…
/timeskip/
Keiko’s POV:
“‘How to use it’...” Aizawa read, the notebook in his hands, “it says here, ‘the human whose name is written in this notebook...shall die!...this notebook will not take effect unless the writer has the person’s face in their mind when writing their name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected. If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person’s name, it will happen. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.’”
Aizawa paused a moment before continuing on, “‘After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written within the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds’. Additionally, on the back, there are two more rules. The first one is, ‘if you make this notebook unusable by tearing it up or burning it, all the humans who have touched the notebook until then will die.’”
Matsuda let out a gasp, his face full of anguish, “what?! Is that true, Aizawa-san?”
Aizawa nodded. “Yeah, that’s what’s written.”
“No way!” Matsuda groaned, “why didn’t anyone tell me before I touched it?!”
“How was I supposed to know?!” Aizawa shot back.
“Just think,” the chief started, “if you hadn’t touched it, then you would be the only one out of the loop in this investigation. Would you be okay with that?”
Matsuda quickly shook his head, “no! I want to work on the same terms as everyone else.”
Wait a second...if that’s really the case...then, what about that rip at the bottom of one of the pages? Wouldn’t that count as tearing it up?
“Anyway,” Aizawa interjected. “I’d like to continue on, Matsuda-san.”
“R-right, go ahead, Aizawa-san.”
“The final rule is as follows, ‘if the person using the notebook fails to consecutively write names of people to be killed within 13 days of each other, then the user…’” Aizawa trailed off a moment, but then continued on, “‘then the user...will die.’”
What?! Keiko glanced at her ex-boyfriend, if that’s the case then-
“If that’s true then that means Light-kun and Misa Misa are completely cleared!” Matsuda pumped a fist in the air, “right, chief?!”
“Yeah, now that you mention it, Light and Amane-san were detained for quite a while...much longer than 13 days...and they’re still under surveillance. There’s no way they’d still be alive if they’re both Kira,” Aizawa commented.
Matsuda grinned. “Wow, that’s great news, isn’t it chief?!”
Light’s father nodded, “yeah. That means I can breathe a sigh of relief.”
While it looked like a few of the others were celebrating, Keiko wasn’t too sure what to make of the whole situation, while I’d also love to celebrate, I’m afraid these that these rules don’t make any sense! And anyway, it’s almost too convenient! The evidence against both Light and Misa is pretty high! I’ve already basically accepted that Light’s Kira based off of his behavior earlier! And what about that torn page at the bottom of the notebook?! Hmm… Aizawa mentioned that these two rules are in the back of the notebook, not the front with the rest of them. Why are these rules listed at the back? Why aren’t they at the front? It doesn’t make sense to me...could it be...could these rules be...fake?
The sound of the detective’s voice broke through her thoughts. “Rem. That’s your name, isn’t it, shinigami?”
“What do you want?” The shinigami, Rem, responded.
“There are other notebooks in the human world, aren’t there?”
As expected, he also realized that there has to be more than one notebook! ...does he also suspect that the last two rules might be fake?
Keiko looked over at the shinigami as they replied, “who knows. There may be and there may not be.”
“If there are other notebooks, are all of their rules the same?” The detective questioned further, seemingly unaffected by Rem’s lack of a real response to his previous question.
“Yes, they are all the same. There are many notebooks in the shinigami realm but they all have the same rules.”
“Ryuzaki-san!” Aizawa took a step forward, “Light-kun and Amane-san have both been cleared of suspicion. That being said, they shouldn’t be under surveillance any longer…”
“I suppose you’re right,” L replied. Keiko could sense the reluctance in his tone. “I understand...please, accept my apologies about everything that’s happened until now.”
Keiko watched as the chief stepped forward, placing his hand on Light’s shoulder, “thank goodness…”
“Yeah, but we still can’t say that we’ve solved the case yet…” Light started. He stood up, looking over at the raven haired detective, “Ryuzaki-san, would it be alright if the handcuffs were removed? I still want to investigate with you, but given the current situation, I think it’d be best if the handcuffs came off. And, seeing as Misa-chan is no longer a suspect, she should be released from surveillance as well…”
“Yes,” was the detective’s short reply. “I understand.”
This really isn’t good! If Light really is Kira and if Misa is the Second Kira, then letting them get released from surveillance is the worst possible decision! But there’s nothing I can do about it, not with those rules standing in the way! At this point, in order to save L’s life, I have to assume that Light is Kira and that he’ll start working with Misa again as soon as she’s released...but still, what can I do to stop them? It’s me up against the power of two killer notebooks...this can’t end well!

1. Casimir x  Shirogane Satsuki
So, typically, Casimir gets along well other people, but Shirogane is a bad combination for him (it’s more so I think Shirogane wouldn’t tolerate him rather than the other way around). Casimir is very meek and submissive, and, from what I recall when we spoke, Shirogane is pretty blunt and can be pretty in your face at times and Casimir would just kind of give in and slink away from him because he pretty much has no backbone whatsoever. So, even though he would be compliant to Shirogane, I just think how fearful and skittish Casimir can be would get on Shirogane’s nerves. Plus, Casimir both brought Aeron into this world and continues to keep him alive and given that Aeron is violent and has murdered people in the past just for the fun of it, and Shirogane has a very black and white view of justice, I think he’d probably view Casimir in the same light as Aeron, if not worse and they wouldn’t be able to come to an agreement with one another about his existence. So, if you want someone for your muse to bully, I guess he works? haha. Otherwise, they’re not a good combo.

2. Therion x  Jaehwa Lee
I can only judge what’s on her profile, so I don’t have a good grasp on her personality, but Therion’s a criminal so that probably doesn’t bode well for him. Sure, he’s just a thief, and she seems to deal with more high profile criminals than him (though he is a very famous thief). I also feel like neither one is the type to actively seek interaction with another human being/both strike me as loner types, which usually makes interactions difficult, especially with Therion because he dismisses people very quickly, and I get the impressive she wouldn’t put up with his crap, which is normally a good thing. So, it would depend on if we could come up with a decent reason for them to interact and keep interacting, and her values/opinions when it comes to criminals as whole (because if she views them all poorly, then, well, she’s likely to view him in that light as well).

3. Chuuya x Jaesung "Jason" Lee
(Thus far this is the least awful of my rolls because boy do I have a lot of criminals on this blog, Chuuya included haha). Judging from his bio once again, so I could be wrong about a few things: Since Jason gets himself involved in anti-government movements and is actively investigating the military/government, it’s probably not a stretch to assume his research and investigation could either A. attract the attention of the mafia, or B. lead him to getting involved with them, if only vaguely by doing hacking jobs and whatnot. In the case of the latter, it’s entirely possible Jason attracts the attention of some big bad and Chuuya, being both a high-ranking member of the mafia and also a heck of lot of brute force, could be assigned to protecting him, or even just managing him in general. In the case of the former, Chuuya is, sometimes, sent out to investigate people/claims so it’s also entirely possible for him to look into Jason if the mafia catches him. So, getting them to meet seems fairly easy to me. Plus, heck even the experiments that were done on him could attract the mafia.
As for how they’d get along. That depends. Chuuya would definitely get on Jason’s case for thinking himself incapable and Chuuya’s a pretty forward/explosive person so it’s either going to result in a lot of arguing or ducking heads, depending the type of person Jason is. That being said, Chuuya can easily fall into the ‘villain’ with a heart of gold trope, and he does value human life, so he wouldn’t really be bullying Jason because he hates him just more so because he’s looking out for him (Chuuya does have a somewhat short fuse though). So, a lot of depends on if Jason would push back or not. Chuuya would probably be more attracted to him if he’s willing to push back a bit, or at least give himself a bit more credit, but if he’s the type to shove his head into the sand than Chuuya’s probably going to be pretty ruthless. But, yeah, they could possibly work, be it as friends, ‘coworkers’, or something more!

4. Yama x Suzaku 'Caesar' Ryuzaki
This is a terrible and weird combination. If you want muses who aren’t going to click well, this could be it haha. Yama is obnoxious, I’m not going to lie, so I feel like, when they first meet, Suzaku might humor his personality for a bit, but Yama is a lot to deal with and I don’t think that would last very long. And it’s just a bad time for Yama, to be honest haha. He comes off as very confident, but is very insecure, and he’s just a bad fit with him unless you want to destroy Yama haha, which I mean, I’m fine with Yama getting bullied, but if you’re looking for something nice this isn’t it.
Tumblr media
5. Ambrose x Huan Cheung Washuu
Whenever I do this meme and Amy comes up, everyone pretty much gets the generic answer of, he gets along with everyone, even people who are actively trying to murder him or who openly express their hatred towards him. Huan also seems likely a fairly agreeable person, so they’re more or less bound to get along/be friendly towards one another (at least for the sake of being polite). However, being around Amy would probably murder the poor guy. Amy’s basically a plant. He has flowers growing out of his body, and I can only imagine the havoc him being anywhere near Huan would do to the poor man’s body. So, while I think they’d get along just fine, Amy’s presence would be awful for him (Amy’s basically mother nature, and mother nature that can walk and follow him around sounds like his worst nightmare haha), so I don’t know if it would be possible for them to interact without poor Huan kicking the bucket.
