coming from one of those "born in mid 2000s and is now suddenly an adult, making everyone feel old," people, do you have any resources to learn how to bullshit your way through getting a job with zero experience. cause i cant even put like "babysitting" or anything since covid prevented literally any teenage-typical jobs and i kinda dont know what to put on a resume beyond the university im currently attending and the high school i graduated from. and they still dont teach you this in school even though we've complained for years 😭

Okay my chilluns, listen up. This is how to bullshit your way into a basic 1-page resume even if you think you have absolutely dum-dum-diddlysquat to put on it. I completely feel you, as it's hard as hell to get a job even in the ordinary course of things, and especially when everything seems to want 10 years of experience and a bachelor's degree (and still pays like shit). But you gotta be persistent anyway. So here follows the step-by-step guide of How To Resume:

Open a new Word (or other word-processing software of your choice) document.

Pick a nice, professional-looking font (for the love of God, no Comic Sans). Times New Roman is fine; you don't have to overthink it. My own CV is currently in Perpetua, because it's a nice serif that looks crisp and a little different, but it is still clean and readable. Garamond or Cambria or other starter typefaces are fine too. Make sure it is the right size, usually around 12pt.

Put your full name at the top, centered, in BOLD CAPITALS. Increase the typeface size a few more points on this, to make it stand out and to make it take up space.

Underneath this, in regular-sized text, put your contact information: mailing address if you're comfortable sharing it, or if not, at least your phone number and email address. Use a school email if you have it, and not some weird/in-jokey personal email.

Start a new paragraph. In a slightly smaller font (italic if you want to make it look classy) write a few words about yourself. This should be something like I am a [Major] student at [University] looking for a part-time, entry-level position in [sales, retail, office, etc]. A [year] graduate of [High School] in [City, State], I am [prompt, reliable, detail-oriented, mature, friendly, etc] and a hard worker who is eager to gain experience and positively contribute to your business.

Start a new paragraph. Change the alignment from Center to Left. Create a new heading in bold underline labeled Education.

Under this, fill in your education (college first, followed by high school). Include the institution name, city, and state, the year you graduated or expect to graduate, any honors or awards, any extracurriculars, any grade-point averages if they're good (i.e. 3.0 and above), and your expected major in college.

Start a new paragraph. Create another heading: Experience.

This is where you put absolutely anything you can think of (in chronological order, most recent first and counting backward). Did you volunteer for something ever in your life? Put it down! (Title of work, dates, location, brief description of work). Did you do yard work for someone for a weekend? Put it down! Were you (or are you) part of a student club or organization in high school or university? Have you organized or taken part in any local initiatives in your community or neighborhood? Put it down! Basically, absolutely any kind of work, paid or unpaid, that might be relevant, regardless of how long it was or when it took place.

Under that, put the new heading/paragraph Skills and Interests.

Have you worked with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe, Photoshop? Put it down! People love that shit! Do you use social media and/or know how to work it better than the average grandma? Put 'er down! You get the idea. Think of anything in your daily life that can be put in Job Language and then see if you can do that. You are in university; do you have any projects, papers, or other things that you're proud of? Have you successfully managed a (gasp) group project? Do you make any kind of art? Are you a registered voter who has taken part in civic/political organizations, drives, or events? (If not, REGISTER TO VOTE! This is your angry grandmother speaking). All of that can go down. Even if it's not job experience per se, it's life experience and shows that you are someone who is engaged with the world and working to gain more.

Last paragraph and heading: References. Ask a few trusted adults who know you well and aren't related to you, such as a favorite high school teacher or a university faculty member/degree advisor, if they'd be willing to serve as referees. Put down their full names, titles/place of work, email addresses, and phone numbers.

Voila! You have a full page resume, probably even a little more if you're lucky. Proofread, make sure the spacing is even and the alignment is right, it doesn't look weird, the text is a consistent size, it's all the same color, there are no glaring typos or grammatical errors, etc. etc. Save it as a PDF.

Boom. Done. You are now a Job Hunting Maestro.

If you get an interview, you don't need to pretend that you have tons of experience or that you're something you're not, but you can present what you ARE in a positive light anyway. Don't apologize for yourself or play yourself down pre-emptively; be confident about yourself and what you can offer. You're a college kid looking for your first part-time job, COVID prevented you from a lot of normal teenage work experience, you're willing to work hard and learn new things. Here's your resume. What would be a good time to talk again.

a (long)vent about writing, motivation, comments and loliness (and the depression)

Writing fic is one of the few ways I've found to help me deal with stressful times. When I was in college, and under a *lot* of stress, writing fic was the only thing that helped me to not lose it ok. But now that I'm out of college I've been struggling to write because I no longer have an outside stressor to keep me motivated. In fact, I have almost nothing to keep me motivated on fic.

Despite my shitty social skills and social anxiety, I'm someone who desperatly craves community and connection. Even if my social battery can get very low very quickly, I like talking to people. I especially like talking about something I've done, like when I participate in plays, I like talking about the process and all that sort of stuff.

So I love receiving comments. I like knowing someone read my stuff and I like talking to them about it, even if I can't always find the right words to express that. Which is also why I love leaving comments too. I know how hard it is to write fic, and idk, it makes me feel good to know someone will wake up to an email that someone read their fic and enjoyed it.

On a personal note, reading comments people left on the stuff I wrote helps me a lot. I've spoken here before about struggling with self esteem issues and I have an inner demon on the back of my head that tells me that everything I do is shit and I shouldn't post it. SO when I do post it, it's my way of trying to fight it back, right. It's why sometimes it takes me so long to write stuff, because i'm just constantly being told it's not good enough, and yeah, comments help me drown that voice out better than any meds i'll ever take. And sure, we could talk about how it's not really great to rely this much on external validation but that's not the point ok.

The point is, writing, even if it's really helpful for me, can be a struggle. And right now, it's being a big struggle. And one triggered this post is that I looked at my works on AO3 and I just...got really upset.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate every kudos and bookmark and comments (even if half of those 8 are my replies). What makes me upset is that feeling of putting so much effort into something and feeling like gaining so little in return. And this is not something of today. All fics that I've abandoned have been due to lack of engagement, because it is extremely hard for me to keep up doing something that I don't feel motivated about.

And look, it is EXTREMELY frustrating when I vent about this and I get hit with "but you should be writing for yourself." I do write for myself, because I wouldn't write it if I didn't want to. But, if I didn't want other people to read it, I wouldn't post it. And I have done that, I have a notebook filled with fic that I don't intend on writing on a computer and posting cause I don't want others to see it. But if I'm posting it, it's because I want to share with others. I want to talk about it, I want to hear what people thought. I come from a theater background, telling your fellow actors what you thought of their performance is what's normal to me.

And look, I've long given up on receiving comments ok. I content myself with a single kudos email nowadays but it IS disheartning when I see that a 10k thing I wrote got no kudos. It SUCKS when I dedicate myself to a chapter, excited to hear what people thought of it, and crickets instead.

And for the love of god, do not take this post as me begging for attention or go read my fics out of pity, i don't want either of that. I just want to vent. I want to vent because I feel very lonely in fandom spaces, because I feel extremely unmotivated no matter what I do and it hurts me, because I can't bring this up to my therapist because I don't want to explain all of this to her because she's a 40 year old brazilian woman who doesn't know what fan fiction is.

So I need to put the feelings somwhere ok, and im putting it here. I just...i just don't want to feel like this. I don't want this loliness, I don't want this feeling of nothing I do matters.

But i'm just tired. I want to write but I can't. I have the ideas but not the strenght to actually write them. And it's hard. I'll keep trying and I'll keep writing but it just sucks a lot and i feel like almost no one ever really gets it.

And I don't even want to get into the feelings of...not jealousy, because I don't wish ill, but that feeling of seeing fellow writers get so much more praise and engagement on their blogs and on their fics and then not getting that for mine. It just sucks and I don't want to talk about it.

Lastly, I want to leave on a quote that I think summarizes what I believe in. This is from the song 'Beautiful', the last song in the musical Ordinary Days. The characters are talking about works of art but I think it can apply to other things (emphasis is mine)

thoughts on the bucks relationship with hangman vs their relationship with kenny? and/or hangman's relationship with the bucks vs his rleationship with kenny?

sorry for the delay, i had to talk to a friend about this because some of the relationships i'm a bit biased about, and also this got a little long

so when it comes to hangman's relationship with kenny, i honestly believe that it was out of necessity. they both stood to gain something from the relationship - titles, and in this, a sense of self worth (and for kenny, a little something else). in the context of aew, they have always been foils for each other. they've followed roughly the same paths. when they started in aew, they both lost to pac. they both lost to a former wwe star, and they both fell into a pit of depression. the difference between hangman and kenny at this particular point, was the bucks.

the bucks checked up on them both, at the beginning, but they outwardly showed more concern for kenny. i choose to believe it was because kenny was a more melodramatic person when it came to isolating himself, as opposed to hangman who played it off like it was nothing. the bucks, observing the both of them, likely believed kenny was the one more likely to go off the deep end. and it's this mistake that caused hangman to fall further away from them, to feel less than and unseen, and ultimately leave the elite (i do think if he had just communicated his needs a little more confidently that maybe they might have listened though, because later on it's proven that when he stands his ground with them, they do end up listening).

hangman's relationship with the bucks, and in particular matt, is a stronger bond than the one he has with kenny because matt's opinion of him matters so much. he sees kenny as the prime object of the bucks' affection, which has always caused a rift between himself and kenny. but it's because of how much power he gives matt's opinion. the bucks were the ones who brought him into the fold in ROH, they were the ones who gave him a chance, they were the ones he had tagged with as the hungbucks and won belts.

with kenny, there will always be jealousy. there will always be this sense of 'the love they give you is what i want to take from you'. though he may have witnessed it finally in november, and again the week that matt and nick came to apologise, he's never felt like their (the bucks') love could be shared between the both of them, and it's partly also because kenny is just larger than life. he does command a room (the fuckin. nerdy ass piece of shit), he commands attention in the ring. he's the kind of wrestler people strive to be.

kenny and the bucks though. they were the OGs of the elite. they've always been tight. im not very familiar with the golden lovers era, but i want to say that that was the most confusing time for the three of them because kota commanded kenny's attention. the bucks probably felt like the third wheel. though i think in the end of all that, the bucks ended up accepting kota and accepting their position in kenny's heart.

during his run with hangman, it felt like kenny was trying to re-live something. like he was trying to duplicate something he had felt before (this is the Something Else i mentioned at the beginning). but the problem with that was that in this relationship, he wasn't the one striving to be like his partner. it was the other way around. and i think kenny works best when he feels like the underdog. he strives under the pressure, but perhaps in this relationship it felt like he was the one pulling somebody else up, and he couldn't actually bear that weight.

often in this aew run, kenny has chosen the bucks. i want to say if kota was here, it wouldn't be the case. but right now, as it stands, he has always chosen them. he said as much. and oddly enough, it feels like nearly every moment that they have a chance, they do not do the same. i recently skimmed through BTE from the 2020 year of aew, and i noticed something that happened again in august. when matt (and by extension nick) gets rejected by hangman, they double down on their hatred and they choose kenny. but only after being rejected by hangman. that entire bit where they were slow heel turning, after refusing to when kenny asked it of them, matt got that 'fuck you dont ever talk to me again' text from hangman's phone (sent by matt hardy) and immediately turned into a fucking asshole and broke more shit. when hangman refused their hungbucks reunion this august, matt immediately turned rude to brandon again. matt's emotional journey, like hangman's at the beginning, is affected by someone else's acceptance or rejection.

i want to say something about nick. but i'm not sure what to say. all i can say is that, from the beginning of the aew run, it felt like nick was the closer buck to hangman. when nick got injured, hangman asked about him. nick is the only one in hangman's phone contacts that has a picture WITH hangman also in it. in the match this past All Out, he was the first to wrestle hangman and they fist bumped each other like they were just. Cool. it's an easy going relationship. it's also, i think, why hangman found it so easy to screw him over in particular during that gauntlet match. it's always easy to take advantage of the people closest to you. in the back of his head, maybe he believed it would be easier for nick to forgive him.

i don't know where i'm going with this, i don't have a definitive closing statement to it at all ksdjhfdsjhgj i hope this is kind of what you were asking for, anon??

- doc was a former high ranking employee of concorp before he volunteered for an experiment and it went horribly wrong. since then, the company has tried to erase any evidence of his existence. doc is now seeking revenge for all that the company did to him and is determined to tear it apart

- HI ok follow up asks will be sent later when my thoughts are coherent but concept: cleo has like super messed up healing powers where she can make healing go Too Far. also i pin her as unbound, considering, like, everything - shovel-shuffle

- So, his power was meant to be super-regen, right? except things don't always quite go to plan. Someone volunteered for the powers surgeries and is arguably dead. Etho is a name shared by the many many clones that developed themselves out of the leftovers. They're not quite individuals, not quite a hivemind. Any one of them has no fear of death because the others will continue, but they all act independently around their overarching goal. (which I won't snitch about) - DragonKay

- Bdubs was a hero. Key word? Was. He climbed the ranks through the government, he was a loyal and dutiful member of society, and he used his plant manipulation powers to subdue evil-doers without hurting them. But he’s always been a friendly guy, and he couldn’t help himself—talking to the Unrestrained, especially those in custody, was interesting! ...but it’s a slippery slope to walk, being friendly with the enemy and not sympathizing to their cause. Nobody knows where he is now, but there are rumours of a vigilante with similar abilities, and his three compatriots, two of whom he helped escape from ConCorp... They call themselves the nHo. - slimetek [Bdubs deserted Concorp while helping Doc escape after his experiment went wrong]

- Concorp managed to make a device that allows animals to speak or translate their thoughts into writing. This means that the good old mayor Scar has a certain cat giving some advice on how to run the city.

- Iskall is an assasin/mercenary against their own volition. An accident they'd rather forget almost killed them, and in exchange for their freedom and free will they got to live as a cyborg. Though its hard to forget with the implant that covers their eye and the limb of cool metal hanging at their side - @ghastly-ghostie [Iskall works for Concorp off-books, bound by the debt owed to them for the life saving experimental modifications]

- so I think grians original powers could be like cloning, but something goes wrong and the clones are different people. as a result of the duplication process, some funky magic rocks are made. the clones decide to take most of the funky rocks and run off, leaving grian with one rock that gives him some new abilities and the clones' rocks give him others. also uhh mechanical wings bc yes. so grians plot is him trying to find them while also causing problems on purpose. infinity stones. update to my grian ask from earlier, I had better ideas: the rocks are old like magic things that grian finds before the cloning and ends up collecting, but his clones snatch them - simplyskipper [some of the alternate Grians are aligned with different factions in Hermitopia, while the locations of others are farther or unknown]

- Hermitopia- Impulse has solid-light powers. He has golden crystals implanted in his hands, which he can reflect light through to solidify it into all sorts of shapes. This can be used to make barriers, projectiles, and much more, though more detailed constructs take more time.- @mleemwyvern

- Hermitopia AU Poultry man is a well-known chaotic neutral leaning towards good, as a one of the unrestrained.

- I think Team ZIT should be a little be wild card-y, that's how they act after all! [they are employed by the government for standard crimefighting, but they don't always take Scar's word at its intended meaning and often play a bit on the chaotic side when given instructions]

- [Hermitopia AU] False is an antihero/vigilante type who's specialty is not defined by powers or the such, but just... the absolute skill of being able to dual wield two (more sci-fi era) short swords. Maybe someone upgrades them to be "enchanted" (electrical, fire, etc. something that tech could do well probably). She's willing to be paid-for-hire, but if you go past her moral line she's also willin' to backstab you. -- @cheshire-vex [she's a free agent who sort of drifts between Concorp, the government, and whoever else will pay her on a job-by-job basis]

- Hermitopia impulse has more connections then one may think. He has ties to people pretty much everywhere, for reasons unknown. There is a 100% someone will come and greet him wherever he goes. [the greetings are usually friendly]

- Hermitopia Au! Keralis is a hero who most people wouldn't expect to be too skilled at fighting. His power is similar to hypnosis so he has no need to get very physical. Yeah, that changed when some bastard villain decided to attack his friends shop. [that incident caused his employer Scar to realize his untapped potential for protecting people and assign him to a few more high-stakes jobs]

- Hermittopia!TFC was one of ConCorp’s first experiments and as such his powers are a bit less...refined then the others. He has geokinetic powers, allowing him to psychically control rocks and other earthen materials. He used to be one of the VEX programs top graduates, but has since parted ways with them for unknown reasons and now operates his own plans of keep crime in Hermitopia under control. -lechairpourriedegrianri [he is considered Unaffiliated and both Concorp and the government largely leave him to his own devices, since he is helping to keep the city together]

-Wels doesn't have powers. He does have a super-suit made of fire and heat resistant carbon fibre (like the material used for the space shuttle) and has a built in hologram projector. One time, he used the hologram projector to project an image of himself, which everyone thought was a clone. He didn't have the heart to tell them otherwise. (AKA everyone thinks Wels has powers but he doesn't) -Silverwolf53 [he got the suit in Project VEX]

- To follow up on the Impulse ask- Team ZIT are a space-themed superhero team. Government-aligned, at least for now.Tango has meteor-like powers, he can shoot fire from his hands and feet and often uses this to propel himself at high speeds. Zed has gravity powers! He can increase or decrease the density of any object, to the point of making small black holes. They all have space-themed costumes, and it was probably Zed's idea. - @mleemwyvern

- TFC was the first participant in project VEX

- Grian was an attempted success. It fixed some problems with Etho's unintended cloning, but at the same time created some problems of its own, seeing as the clones appeared to have a life of their own.It's fine, though. It's probably fine

- Xisuma is a civilian- he has hero friends, but despite all their teasing he’s never wanted to go through VEX training. But in the night, the unrestrained Void walks the streets [Void is a symbiotic creature made of nothingness that uses Xisuma's body as a substitute physical form]

- Bdubs was such a good man... he could be trusted to look after Doc, couldn’t he? Somebody had to oversee him, somebody who was reliable and would never, ever consider betraying the mayor and ConCorp...They let their guard down, and Bdubs got curious. - The hels hermits are considered evil by default. How do you spot these clones, how could you protect yourself? Well in the past it was a lot easier, just look for their red eyesNowadays contacts exist but that doesn't stop people trying to call the police on tango, calling him a hels. Hes netherian, they have unnatural eye colours and their iris fills the entire eye, hes not evil but if people keep doing this hes gonna be!

- Beef woke up from his brain surgery to receive telepathy powers, took one look into the mind of the overseer, and noped put of there as fast as he could go.He's on very public record. After all, the mind control he may be capable of is a very convenient explanation for anyone who turns against concorp... ~DragonKay

- Hypno can’t control minds.They say he does. It’s why he’s named Hypno, after all.In reality, he can’t control people like that... but he can control what they see.Your best friend might look like your greatest enemy. A pit of lava might look like solid ground. A 100-foot drop might look like a step down.It’s a good thing he’s a hero, and a good thing he keeps his true powers hidden beneath a guise of low-level hypnotism. There’s no telling what he could do if they let him go. [he works for Concorp, helping to protect VEX trainees from people trying to harm them before they get a chance to finish the program, as well as keeping other resources safe]

- The 9th Street Incident [referring to an earlier Impulse comment] was a friendly greeting. That particular version of Etho just thought that drawing weapons would be a friendly greeting for Impulse, but Tango and Zed seem to disagree

- They still don’t trust Bdubs. He was with the government for a long time, and things are hard out there on the run. Besides, they don’t know what he got up to there. ConCorp could have any sort of information on him, something that might scare him back.Bdubs understands this. He doesn’t want to go back. He’d hate to go back....but they think he will, and maybe there’s something he’s not telling them. An ace that ConCorp has yet to play.- Slimetek

- Mumbo works for concorp as an engineer specialising in robotics, most recently taking on the task of maintaining Iskall's cybernetics that somehow they just keep damaging. Iskall assures him they're just.. very clumsy. So far Mumbo hasn't caught on.

- Ren's power is that hes a werewolf, but he only found out when he was in his late teens with his childhood friend Iskall. He still feels guilty about it, he did kill his best friend afterall. Or so he thinks.He's lived off grid ever since, too overwhelmed with grief and guilt to rejoin society. Most assume he's dead too - @ghastly-ghostie [Ren dropped Iskall off to Concorp as a last ditch effort, running away before he could see whether they took his friend in or not. They did, starting Iskall's plotline. Iskall told Concorp about Ren's abilities, triggering a panic in the Concorp ranks at the fact that Ren is a superhuman being created by some force other than their own project]

- Where does Void come from? The same place all powers come from.Little did they know, something survived the crash and has taken a human host. Maybe it's not the only one...No, that place is not Concorp. Concorp's original goal was to develop technology by reverse-engineering from a crashed alien spaceship. These aliens did gene-editing the way some people do nose jobs, so they adapted that technology, too.~DragonKay

- i've already said a bit about it in the discord but i have hermitopia cleo brainrot. joe being there was able to save her by giving her the regen powers along with her puppeteering telekinesis power. anyways cleo is presumed dead, sent by concorp into a mission as fodder basically until zit could arrive. but now there's is one (1) bitter undead vigilante against concorp that is presumed dead

- Stress’s name has a few meanings in relation to her. Whenever she gets too angry or /stressed/, she transforms into the StressMonster, a monster that feeds off of other people’s stress to become more powerful. Luckily, the monster is rarely seen, but does terrible things when she is. She’s one of the most feared creatures in Hermitopia. Stress hates her and tries her best to hide her from her friends, but it can backfire sometimes. - @guster-animations

ConCorp figured it was best to cut their losses and not try to send anyone in to rescue him -- it would be a pointless mission. so they abandoned him, quietly announced that he had died in the line of duty, and put the affected area under high security clearance in order to prevent any future accidents. they figured he was already dead. and Joe figures, given that they up and abandoned him, maybe it's for the best that they continue to figure just that. he changed his last name to "Hills" -- a joke about the biome containing the time anomaly -- and otherwise proceeded to stay under the radar. he still uses the time dilation area as a base of operations, sometimes; it's very useful to have a hideout that people physically cannot get into/out of without his direct assistance. is he nursing a grudge, coming up with some convoluted scheme to get back at the paramilitary group for abandoning him? or does he just want to live a relatively normal life off the grid? who knows. that's the Joe [REDACTED] Hills difference. -@betweenlands

- False has some big scary power that is almost Eldritch she just happens to prefer a sword and doesn’t really care for who she works for as long as they’re paying... (they don’t need to know of the power that had harmed the ones she loves the most)

- Keralis once encountered Void sulking around where Xisuma worked. So fearful for his friend’s safety, he used his power on Void and told him to go away. Apparently the charm is still active, because if Void spots Keralis anywhere, he’ll turn tail and run. No, it’s not because he’s scared. Absolutely not.

- Grumbot serves as a sentient supercomputer created by Mumbo for Grian. Grian is using Grumbot for... various activities, all of which harmless, but a certain evil clone [Helsknight] has reverse engineered the technology. Concorp would like for Mumbo to give them the tech, but mumbo stuck some eyes to the computer, got emotionally attached, and refuses to give up his baby boy.

- When Impulse hears his friend/colleague Bdubs has been "taken over" by the mind-controller [Beef], he wants to go on an off-the-books mission to rescue him! Just giving up like they were told to isn't in his nature.Of course the rest of ZIT are with him. Heroes save people! It's what they do!~DragonKay

- Ren used to be friends with Cleo too, but then she died. Strangely enough, she died on the same day that Ren killed Iskall. Ren’s lost all his friends. It’s hard living in isolation when there’s no one left that even cares about you. (Unless— no, that’s impossible.)

- I was thinking about Biffa, like you do. And Biffa would totally be some robot that was created by Project VEX in its early stages, however they realised fast that it was easier to use humans and give them powers, maybe its not their strong suit with robots. But Biff went sentient and glitched and was scrapped so hes just out there doing his thing. Hes a wildcard and plays for which side he wants at the time, sometimes he'll help or sometimes hes the one causing trouble. He looks pretty similar to a android like in Detroit:Become human but hes a bit uncanny and eerie, maybe its the eyes or the blood red armour. Powerwise, he's got more strength than a human does, mainly because he isn't limited like others are. try not to get punched by him, it'll hurt! - Beef is the perfect cover-up for Bdubs’ desertion. ConCorp doesn’t want any other employees getting bright ideas, now, do they? Nor do they want employees getting nosy and trying to figure out where Bdubs went. They don’t have to tell people what Beef’s powers are. They just release that he developed powers after brain surgery, and a rumour that he was spotted lurking around before Bdubs suddenly betrayed ConCorp... and people draw their own conclusions. -Slimetek

- xB is pretty sure he’s supposed to be evil.I mean, that’s what sentient AIs usually end up being, according to a quick internet search. And yet he’s... not. Or maybe he’s just on the wrong side. - Slimetek

- Yes impulse is friends with the nho....what he doesn't know? He's....easily susceptible to hypnosis. Very easily.......Of course, after impulse is basically a very tired n warm cuddle bug, so, cuddle piles tend to happen after all information is spilled. He must've fallen asleep at their apartment again! Whoops! But it's okay.....they take good care of him if he does! [Beef is using his mind reading ability on Impulse without his knowledge, to make sure that he hasn't spilled their location and to predict the government's next moves. He feels slightly bad about it but feels that it is necessary for the nHo's survival.]

- So far, Grian has only ever encountered two of his clones, NPC Grian and Robot Grian. Technically three, if one were to count Ariana Griande. Grian doesn't really, but some do. [Ariana Griande is a popular musician in Hermitopia who is building a career using the magical stone of voice enhancement she recieved through the cloning process]

- To handle the two Grumbot issue: the one working with Helsknight can be Jrumbot, a legion of robot drones meant to work as Grumbot’s physical form that ended up being hijacked by Helsknight and turned against ConCorp

- There...aren’t a lot of “normal” animals left in Hermittopia. ConCorp took one look at the animals populating the city and decided that, hey, they could make some improvements. Species after species, they modified their behavior, appearance, internal structure, whatever they could fix, tweak, or add. They were just improving their lives and the lives of the citizens of Hermittopia, after all, but the new animals quickly outcompeted the old for resources and habitats. And if it makes it easier for ConCorp to stick a camera in one or two of them, or set up robotic animals to keep a better eye on the city, no harm, no foul, right?(Bonus: there is one (1) singular cat left in Hermittopia, resulting in a spy movie-style heist where two teams of Hermits attempt to “rescue” the cat simultaneously. The cat keeps wandering away from both teams. Shenanigans ensue)- Adonis [the cat is Jellie, who orchestrated the competition between Team ZIT and Cleo and Joe for her own entertainment, getting away from both parties in the end]

- The Leak:Not all mutations are the result of controlled experiments! If some alien tech got away from the crash site, concorp never would have picked it up. It might have got into nature, not as refined as they made it in the labs but causing little changes here and there. Ren may have become a werewolf from being bitten by a mutant wolf~DragonKay

- Impulse is able to use his powers to create illusions or male things appear invisible! Sort of. After all, light dictates what we see. It takes a lot of focus, though, so it's not that practical. -@rayveewrites

[Since the "second organization" is an incorrect assumption believed by Concorp, Jevin was created when he came in contact with a waterway contaminated by The Leak. Concorp assumes he was created by an opposing organization and not by accident, and therefore would like to bring him in along with Ren.]

- hermitopia - mumbo and grian were friends back when cloning experiments were still happening (or . as friendly as you can be with someone who's treating you like a lab rat), but after everything went wrong and grian escaped, mumbo has his memories wiped nd thats why he's trusted w iskall's stuff? bc he inherently remembers working on high-level things without knowing where he learnt it - muscle memory, yk?anyway massive angst with grian maybe recognising mumbo, but not the other way round, and trying to rekindle their friendship? and that's where grumbot comes in? -gin [Mumbo's memory was wiped so that he would forget the deadly purpose of Iskall's cybernetics, which he was working on at the same time as the Grian project in the background. Mumbo does not remember creating Grian's mechanical wings or Iskall's arm and eye, and he has no memory of either individual previous to "meeting" Iskall as the person assigned to his repair and upkeep.]

- Etho doesn't so much have powers as he is powers. All the powers the ‘original’ had went into creating him; now he just exists, as whatever sort of being he is. Not a human one, that much is obvious. ~DragonKay [Etho has no powers beyond the hivemind and his training, due to the error in the experiment that caused the clones]

- Mumbo started the button as a joke. A nonsense social expirement to see how much people want worthless signs of status. Unfortunately things got out of hand, and violent too. But hey! It's not his fault that the five special anomalous stones were misplaced into the prize dispenser! It was just chance that they fell into the hands of the clone of the worst gremlin in the city! Don't fire him! [He was not fired, but Cub was Decidedly Unhappy with him for a good long while]

- Void mostly trashes ConCorp facilities- trying to figure out if any of his siblings survived the spaceship crash, but occasionally he’ll pilfer from a bakery, because X is a health nut and Void just wants a gods damned cookie [Void very much dislikes unseasoned chicken]

- If the Stress Monster gets too big, too dangerous, Cleo is sworn under oath to Stress to zap her with her healing powers. Cleo doesn’t like to do it, overhealing a stressed Stress makes her so calm she gets knocked out for a couple of days, but Stress can take a small comfort in the fact that at least one person out there can stop her

- Ooh with the self healing Cleo she'd be able to develop a small amount of super strength, with how the mind keeps from going full throttle because it would destroy the body once she gets over it it's hysterical strength whenever she wants [it is quite painful, but a good backup plan]

- Being a hive mind of disposable clones that can spawn new copies at will, it can sometimes be hard for the Etho Entity to remember that it is indeed a big deal for other people when they get hurt. This can make him come off as callous to those around him, placing him firmly in the "villain" category in most citizen's books, but he really doesn't intend any harm!

- Grian used to be tall, but then the cloning happened. With each clone they stole a little bit of his height making him the short man he is today. He needs to capture those clones and get his height back. [Grian isn't entirely sure how to accomplish this, but he's dead set on trying! He misses being tall!]

- While Grian was perfectly fine with Ariana Griande living her own life, he did insist on one thing.Her "older brother" getting backstage access whenever she was on tour. He's very proud and supportive of her and her music career.

- Mumbo is perfectly content working in tech, watching the other hermits get up to crazy shenanigans. Except of course, there was that one time he was out testing some new gear and accidentally saved a crowd from some villains... and there were all those times after too...But hey! It’s not his fault that people like him, and he certainly isn’t going to get caught by Concorp during his after hours activities. [Mumbo considers himself an accidental hobbyist, not thinking he has the nerve or the skill for proper hero work. Time will tell if he's right about that or not...but unfortunately, he probably is. This should be fun.]

- There’s still some people overseeing VEX, even over Cub. They’re the ones that push Cub to do certain experiments or to scrap one. They’re the ones to give Cub the decision for Iskall’s life debt. Scar was under them too for the longest time, but eventually he wanted out. Cub still wanted in. They were still in the right, right? That’s what they tell him. He’s starting to doubt it. [Cub is way too invested in everything he's built to even think about going rogue now, but he does resent and occasionally question the judgement of his superiors increasingly as his project begins to fail more and more often. He also fears that Scar's shift in career will be seen as a betrayal, rather than as a tactical attempt to gain the company influence in the government.]

- Been thinking about the impulse + nho asks and just,,, what would happen if concorp/the government found out? It cant be good with interrogation/hypnosis on both sides (incase you cant tell,, the brainrot got me as well) (apologies if this is a mess im excited) [Hypno is assigned to set up an illusionary conversation to make Impulse reveal nHo location to Concorp and government agents while thinking that he's actually talking to the nHo in a random encounter]

- The one mind Beef can't read is Etho's. Their hivemind is just too weird for him to comprehend. If he ever tries to listen in, it sounds like just a bunch of static from an old TV.

- for hermitopia au!: Out of most of the heros, the most reckless may be team zit. sure they tell themselves they'll plan out missions but it's hard when they share a braincell and tango just runs in. impulse and zed share a look everytime and have to run after him to make sure he doesn't get too hurt or overwhelmed by the enemy. in their defence its hard to plan ahead against an enemy when you dont know what they are thinking.-lucodak ["You might not have known what they were thinking, Tango, but we'd generally like you to know what you're thinking!"]

- i bet ConCorp really wants to make it out like theres some secret shady organization creating all these people with mutations, rather than their own operatives deserting and their own failure to contain dangerous chemicals... whether its malicious coverups or just ignorance to the fact they messed up, wonder what would happen if that sort of thing came to light...? [If they found out that the unintentional superhumans were a result of the poorly-contained crash site? Cub would lose his job...maybe worse. If Cub found out (and he hasn't, yet) he would do everything in his power to keep that information from his superiors.]

- (paraphrased) Impulse accidentally walks in on heroes and agents breaking down the doors of the nHo's hideout and confronting them. Scar claims that they did so on information Impulse himself provided and thanks him for his service. Impulse, feeling confused and betrayed, resists Hypno's attempts to illusion him back to Scar's side and flees the scene with the nHo, knowing very little other than the fact that he doesn't want to be manipulated by the government any more (and still not knowing that Beef has been reading his mind)

- Impulse may have been labeled a traitor. But do you really think that Impulse, secret rebel, starting to learn how dangerous and corrupted Concorp really is, wouldn't let his best friends know about the danger they might be in? I think Team ZIT is more loyal to each other than to the government. - @mleemwyvern [ Impulse's first stop after escaping with the nHo is to find a place to secretly meet Tango and Zedaph and tell them about the way he was tricked. It takes a lot of explaining and a lot of trust, but they eventually decide to believe his claims and are left with a choice: will they openly go rogue and become a target along with Impulse and the rest of the nHo, or are they better off using their established image and reputation to keep an eye on the government heros' movements from the inside?]

- (two asks combined, paraphrased) Ren runs out of supplies and decides to head back into the city, confident in his ability to stay off the grid after so many years of experience and such a long time away. Once there, he runs into Doc, and they hit it off quite quickly. However, the more Ren talks the more Doc realizes - with his ex-Concorp knowledge - that Ren matches the description of Iskall's main target exactly. He warns Ren, who is then faced with the knowledge that Iskall is alive and assigned to kill him...so many questions and so many tears to follow...

- Why did Hermitopia start needing heroes? When the Unrestrained started to appear, if course. Why did the Unrestrained start to appear? A question asked a little less. When did the VEX program start? When did they start taking more risks? When did they stop caring about certainty and safety and shift towards trying to push boundaries they weren't ready to? People can be so enamoured with the concept of superhuman abilities, something bright and glorious and good- and perhaps they could have that too- they don't ask all the right questions. It's all an elaborate game of damage control, don't let the flashy heroics fool you, they've made mistakes, terrible, terrible mistakes, and now there are villains running loose with powers they fooled ConCorp into giving them. Are they villains? Are they victims? Does it matter? They're causing problems. [Project VEX has developed into a solution to its own problems, a self perpetuating cycle...one that Cub, as a businessman, is very familiar with. It's what keeps the wheels of industry turning. It's what keeps innovation creeping forward. It wasn't intentional, not this time...but if it keeps his project alive, he'll take it.]

- One time, Jevin had narrowly dodged being captured by Concorp. He was laying low in the forest out of town, when he had a run-in with some sort of wolf creature. Thankfully, claws and teeth couldn't exactly hurt him anymore, so he just played dead until it gave up.When the moon set, the wolf-thing slowly transformed into a human being. Ren was horrified at the thought he'd lost control and hurt someone- again- but Jevin assured him he was fine. Jevin got the feeling that the werewolf needed a friend, and Jevin himself needed a place to stay for a while... -RayveeWrites [Ren and Jevin are not currently in the same location, but they each have a means of contacting each other for help if needed]

- Worm Man wasn't a well- known super, but plenty of people have noticed that he seemed to vanish at the same time Team ZIT first started active duty. - A common misconception is that Bdubs conjures up his vines from nowhere. He can't.Like any plant, his vines grow from seeds. They grow unnaturally fast, when Bdubs wills it, but they have to come from seeds. Where do these seeds come from, you may ask?Well, a long time ago, Bdubs ingested some strange fruits. Somehow, in wild defiance of human biology, the seeds contained in those fruits worked their way into his muscles and germinated. Some of the roots worked their way into his brain and fused into it; the rest spread through his muscles, grew beneath his skin, coiled around his bones. Thanks to the way the vines connected to his brain, Bdubs is able to command the vines, and their magic, at will.The vines produce seeds; some stay in his body to replace the old ones when they die, and most work their way into a pair of 'seed pods' in his wrists. Bdubs provides the nutrients, the energy; the vines provide the seeds, the magic. As an extra bonus: if the vines were to be totally removed from Bdubs' body, he would be at best extremely weak, and at worst dead. The vines have grown into his muscles, to the point where they've essentially replaced them in some areas. - Iskall has exactly one (1) failed assignment. That assignment? The kill or capture of Stress. Stress and Iskall have been, or should it be were now, friends for a very long time, since before Iskall even met Ren. So one can imagine the stress this causes Iskall, to be told to kill his one remaining friend that he knows is alive. Of course, this stress is quite enough to to Stress's Stress Monster into one it's strongest yet seen forms, allowing for Stress to then get away. (1/2)(2/2) Of course, Con Corp doesn't- and can never- know the true reason that Iskall cannot kill or capture Stress. If they knew, if they subjected Stress to the same hell he's in- no, that cannot happen. So Iskall hires False to protect Stress, to interfere whenever they send him on a mission for her. Luckily, False is good at keeping secrets when she wants to, and this one she'll keep. But as far as Con Corp knows, Iskall has severe stress and trauma from being a cyborg, and that's why he fails. [This all adds up to a monumental waste of Concorp's time and money, which also results in False getting payed, so all parties involved are happy except for Concorp >:)]

- Impulse would take a bullet for his teammates, and he knows they might be about to take one for him, keeping him updated on what's going on government side of this... slander. Still, Tango and Zed are great actors, and if he didn't know better, he might be a little worried they would *actually* be hunting him down in the name of justice [Tango and Zed are now being sent on missions to retrieve Impulse, which they must pretend to lose believably. They occasionally overestimate their friend's abilities and give him a few more close calls than he'd like, but overall the ruse is holding up.]

—  its just her and her dad, and has been for as long as she can recall !! everything she knows about her mum could fit on the back of the weathered passport photo she keeps in her wallet of a stranger who shares her face - her name’s melody, or at least tht was name she used when working as a dancer, she’s from argentina and dropped mag’s dad as soon as someone w more money came along.

—  margo’s father is a beekeeper with his own organic honey company. margo and her dad moved to irving in the early 00s, the summer between grade school and middle school, because her dad had heard about the communal living in abernathy creek and wanted to lend his skills there and live off the fatta the land in a very lenny from of mice and men kinda way.

—  for a few years of middle school margo was bullied for living with the ‘freaks from the creek’, but when they realised how chill her dad was with underage drinking, margo ‘keg-bringer’ colby soon gained popularity among the more renegade students. every so often, the high school parties would happen at her end of town, occasionally with members of the commune even offering the high schoolers a spiritual experience they’d never forget (often in the form of mushrooms) which meant people tried to stay on her good side. to get an invite to a margo colby party handed you a free pass to make up the most ridiculous shit about the commune you liked and nobody else could say anything, because they’d never been to the creek.

—  at school, margo had a lot of ‘behvioural issues’ bcos of undiagnosed adhd, she found it difficult to sit still for hours n write down huge chunks of information n her restlessness was seen as laziness. she was encouraged to do sports, as were most of the kids who weren’t that academically inclined, but she turned out to be pretty hot shit at sprinting, because she grew up surrounded by bee houses and he who runs slowest gets stung, baybeyy!! so yea, in school sports became her LIFE. she was gonna get a sports scholarship to college but ended up dropping out of school in senior year n becoming one of those kids who could have had it all but lost it.

—  she had sex with sutter at a house party when she wasnt really ready because it felt like the right thing to do at the time and everybody else was doing it. she’d attended health class, she’d seen the corny videos. she knew about all the statistics, but she also knew that it had never happened to anyone she knew and the pull out method was basically safer than the morning after pill and way less expensive.

—  a teenage pregnancy knocked her out of the runnings for prom queen and meant she had to leave school early. she didn’t go to college when her friends did, instead she spent the time interviewing potential foster candidates and eating her weight in lindt chocolate while marathoning love island in her room.  

—  she had a son, who she passed off to someone else a couple of towns away.  it was a closed adoption which seemed like the best idea at the time, but she now wishes she had access to his life.

—  after peaking in high school and jumping between jobs for a few years, she got a more permanent role at scuba which she loves with all of her heart and soul, but unfortunately a bar job doesn’t pay the rent.  

—  she works at summer camps coaching  junior soccer and netball on the side. she’s extremely competitive and takes it very personally if her team lose. the kids all call her, coach colby n write her longwinded letters about how they’ll never forget this summer camp before they go back to their suburban picket fence houses n she keeps all the letters in a drawer n takes them out to read when she’s feelin depressed.

—  enjoys surfing and worked for a number of years on resorts like mila kunis’ job in forgetting sarah marshall. she went on to work 18-hour days as a stewardess on luxury yachts which is a part of her backstory i added after watching season one of below deck because i guess i really am that fucking impressionable. met most of her surf friends doing tht but said she’d never in her life do it again bcos it was mostly just picking up after rich white ppl for shit pay. she came back to irving n thats when she started doing the summer camp jobs so she could move out of the creek n get her own apartment. 

—  she never actually finished senior year so she’s currently going to night school at the community college to get through her exams and is trying to save to go to college or open university. she wants to major in criminology. she’s super ambitious but also super adhd so she fluctuates between thinking she can achieve anything to just feeling like a failure n thinkin whats the point

It was too late. The damage had been done; the collateral had been collected by you. For the first time in his life, Jaebum saw the consequence for how he treated those around him. As he travelled up to his office, he looked at the faces surrounding him. Did he even know anything about the people who walked in and out of this building each day? Aside from their strengths and weaknesses, what made them tick? What did they go home to each day? A family or a parent? Did they tell them anything about their work day? Was he ever mentioned?

Did they think their CEO was a fair man?

Somewhere along the line, Jaebum had royally messed up. The figures no longer added up, and he could tell he had been in a deficit for too long. You had masked all his weaknesses, accepting him as he came and not once arguing with his bad choices.

He couldn’t blame you. You had believed he would always keep you at the top.

Still, it had made him arrogant. To covet what he wanted, to have no opposition until now had spoiled him. He had grown too fast too soon, greed compelling him forward at each turn. It didn’t matter what he needed or what he did for himself. Jaebum only needed to be on top of everything.

He had been afraid to look back at the path beyond the woman he had placed there to keep himself from wandering astray. Now that he was all alone, he was a lost cause. There was no pathway opened in front, each door locked down by you.

By himself.

His focus faltered in meetings, his indecisiveness plagued him at every turn. Your soothing words no longer there to help seal the deal whenever he doubted himself.

Jaebum felt incapable.

This led to him taking the first break of his career. It surprised him when he realised the only time he had gotten on a plane in the last seven years was to meet with clients and investors. He felt anxious as he buckled himself in, chiding himself for being so foolish. Glancing at the empty seat beside him, Jaebum sighed. Perhaps he was nervous because he was alone.

Swallowing back his emotions, he placed in his earbuds and closed his eyes.

He needed to rediscover who he was.

Jaebum slept away the first three days of his stay. When he groggily pulled himself out of the bed on the fourth morning, he was surprised by how much he needed that rest. He was always on the go, forfeiting sleep for work. Now he felt entirely overdone with lying in a bed and wanted to stretch his legs.

He had opted to stay at a beach resort, hoping the salty air and boasted relaxation would soothe his soul. Admittedly, it had been the one you had recommended you head to after the contract had been signed for the deal that fell through.

That led to your disappearance from his life.

Still, he held on to what little remained. He had never told you how he felt about you unless it was when you were entangled in his arms. The confessions you deserved had never once been spoken further than upon your skin. Foolishly believing you knew all there was to how his mind and heart worked.

Jaebum realised he knew very little of yours.

It was early enough to catch the communal breakfast at the main hall and once casually dressed, Jaebum took the winding pathway towards the main building. It was already shaping up to be a cloudless day, the sun letting him know the light sweater he had over his polo would be soon unneeded.

Just as he went to step into the building, he stopped when he realised someone else was trying to do the same. Pocketing a hand, he smiled lightly as he gestured for them to go first instead.

And when they moved inside, he saw you.

Blinking once, he refocused on your face, searching it hungrily. His body lurched and he took an unsteady step forward, hopeful that his desperation to see you wasn’t causing him to hallucinate.

You stepped back and his mouth fell ajar. “Y-Y/N.”

“Jaebum.”

“Wha—what are you doing here and-”

You breezed by him, leaving him stunned for a second, scrambling into the building behind you. He followed you into the breakfast buffet, staring relentlessly at your back profile as if it would give him the answers he craved.

Why were you here?

Did you remember the plan to come here too?

Did you miss him as much as he missed you?

Blindly grabbing some of the food before him, Jaebum didn’t miss a step to keep up with you, sliding into the seat across from yours when you sat down. You gave him a pointed look despite how flustered you were.

He couldn’t hide the smile that formed on his lips; he had always loved when you looked like that. And with your hair down and sans your tailored outfit, Jaebum found himself falling in love with you all over again.

He blinked rapidly; it felt too raw to think of the word love right now.

“What are you doing?”

“You didn’t answer me.”

You cocked your head to the side. “I don’t have to any more. In case you’ve forgotten, I’m no longer working for you.”

“I know.”

“Then, would you like to leave the table first or shall I?” you asked bitterly and he stopped adding maple syrup to his pancakes to look up at you. Your expression softened and he watched as you wrestled with the old you. The one who reacted to every look he gave you.

Diverting his eyes to the plates on the table, he went to leave when he noticed you mindlessly pulling your fork up to your mouth, lurching over to grab your wrist before you could eat. You shook under his touch and he pushed back his feelings to focus on why he stopped you. Reaching for the piece of fruit you had come dangerously close to eating, he popped it in his mouth.

“Did you forget you’re allergic to pineapple?” he murmured, taking the three other pieces from your dish before scraping back his chair, getting up and leaving you reeling after his departure.

Now that Jaebum had seen you once, it felt as if all day he was running into you somehow. You were at the pool when he turned up for a swim, you crossed paths with him on the beach and you even ended up attending the same night festival the resort had put on. It was killing Jaebum to keep stepping away from you when all he wanted to do was grab a hold of you and apologise for how he had been over the years.

Even though he knew that a simple apology wouldn’t solve anything.

Equally, thoughts of you never left him. You looked even more breathtaking than he remembered in your swimsuit, your legs lighting up the flames of arousal within him. Further than your physical attributes, he craved even fifteen minutes of conversation with you. His attraction to you had started all from a debate you had both held in a business management class and he couldn’t get over how much he missed just hearing what you had to say.

It made him wonder, had he even heard your real thoughts over the past four years when you had worked together? Now that he had all the time in the world, he wanted to spend it on rediscovering you.

Jaebum was too much of a coward to approach you though, your cold barrier earlier in the morning and the memory of that night reminding him of his place.

You had stepped out of his life with no intention to return.

The following morning he decided to go for a run along the beach, hoping to burn off some of his frustrations. He hadn’t slept nearly as well as the first three nights, merely staring up at the ceiling of his room thinking of you. Of what he liked about you, the things he disliked too. The way you felt in his arms, and the way you always fell asleep on him after the night ending with avid moans of euphoria.

The bed had felt far too cold for Jaebum to gain any successful rest.

He had already run the length of the beach to the cove at the end before turning around to head back for a shower before breakfast. Jaebum was satisfied with the burn in his lungs and the blood pumping in his veins. It empowered him enough to face the day, hoping that he would at least remain in control of his emotions if he happened to see you.

And it was seeing you that sent him hurtling into the damp sand suddenly, unprepared to cross paths with you so soon. Groaning after his less than stellar dismount from empowerment and hitting the ground running literally, Jaebum hoped that you hadn’t seen him.

But you had and he was red-faced when you dropped to your knees at his side. “Oh my God, are you okay?!”

“No,” he admitted and he attempted a laugh. Looking up at your stricken expression, he laughed harder. “No, I haven’t been alright for months now.”

You pursed your lips, seemingly wanting to say something more but your judgement ruled it out. He sighed, wishing you had just said whatever it was. Hauling himself up into a seated position, Jaebum waved you off. “You don’t have to worry about me.”

“Okay then, I won’t,” you answered curtly, getting back to your feet when his hand reached out to take a hold of yours.

Jaebum lowered his head. “Could you though? Is there a chance you could worry about me again?”

You stared down at his feeble request, uncertain.

It’s Vegas, Baby - Chapter II

Summary: Nesta goes out to the store and so does Cassian. Classic Nesta, she thinks he’s stalking her. Trust me it’s more interesting than it sounds lol(I hope)

"I'm home!" Nesta calls out to Feyre. She can smell pizza and instantly strides towards the kitchen, where she finds Feyre with a large cheese pizza still in the box, half-eaten.

"Finally! I was beginning to wonder if you and Cassian finally acknowledged the sexual tension between yourselves and fucked."

"Feyre! That is not appropriate to say at all! Cassian and I are barely colleagues, we will never be anything so stop with your meddling!" Nesta replied, trying to will down a bright red blush. Feyre and her boyfriend, Rhys, had this insane idea that she and Cassian were made for each other, it didn't help that Cassian was constantly flirting with her either.

"We're back!" Mor and Amren had just gotten home from some party, with Mor holding Duchess, their shared Chinese Crested Dog. When the four of them bought a penthouse together Feyre and Mor wanted a dog, and Nesta and Amren didn't. After begging and pleading with her sister and friend to please give him away after they adopted him they finally decided to just lock her, Amren, and Duchess in a room together. They all became friends, and they found out that Duchess was, in fact, a boy. They had been calling him Duchess for too long, though, so when they called him Duke he wouldn't reply so the name just stuck. When the rest of their inner circle found out-"the rest" being Cassian, Azriel, and Rhys- they didn't stop teasing them for days. In their defense, he had a very small you-know-what and he was a very ladylike boy.

"Bring my baby boy to me! Oh I wove you so much you wittle cutie pie!" Feyre was letting Duchess lick her face, making Nesta gag. Sure she loved the dog, but seriously, he licks his butt.

"Ugh, Mor, your cousin is working me to the bone! And he won't stop trying to push me and Cassian together! He thinks he can push us together just cause we “have hella sexual tension”! Also, I was thinking about this last night, Rhys is dating Feyre and if I'm Feyres sister and he's Cassians brother, that's literally incest!"

"You know they aren't actually brothers, right? They're just best friends." Mor replied, trying not to laugh at Nesta's flustered expression. She put down Duchess and reached for a slice of pizza. Everyone knew that it was just a matter of time before Nesta and Cassian got together. Nesta and Mor were the only single people in the house, not including Duchess. And Mor was just recently dumped so she was in a big love life meddling mood. Amren was dating some guy named Varian, and Feyre... Well, let's just say that it's a miracle that she's here right now and not out getting nailed by Rhys.

"I know that, but still. They refer to themselves as brothers."  

"So you're saying that if they didn't call themselves brothers you would have sex with Cassian! I knew it!"

"No, Feyre, I am not saying that! Besides, he flirts with everyone so even if I was into him- which I am not - we probably wouldn't become a thing."

"Keyword being probably." Mor says with a smirk.

"Enough of all this bickering, I'm hungry and bored so someone turn on the T.V. while I make some popcorn." Amren quickly breaks them up before Nesta tears off someone's head.

Cassian pulled up at the townhouse he shared with his brothers. All the lights were turned off which meant that Az was sleeping, or not home. The former was more likely because Az usually got pizza on his rest nights and there were three cold slices of meat lovers pizza left. Cassian was so hungry, he ended up eating them cold. He fought back a moan at how delicious the pizza was. He would never understand how Nesta was able to be a vegetarian. Shit. He had been such a dick to Nesta earlier. She was genuinely concerned about him and he had just pushed her away.

Cassian pulled out his phone and checked instagram. Mor had posted a photo of her and Amren with their dog, Duchess, at a party. He didn’t know if he should laugh or cry at the fact that a misgendered dog had a better social life than he did.

“Ugh, Feyre, Tomas and his little gang showed up at work last night.” Nesta and Feyre were chilling in the kitchen, the latter making a breakfast spread that would put Disney Channel moms to shame. Amren and Mor were nursing killer hangovers, so Feyre made sure to bang around a ton in the kitchen.

“Again? A-fucking-gain? Nuthin new, nuthin changed? Same old shit. Same old fuckin shit.” Feyre replied, forgetting that Nesta had no idea what that reference meant.

“I told them to leave and that I almost had the money to pay them back, but Tomas just slapped my ass and said ‘sEe YoU oN yOuR nExT sHiFt’ then he got up and left.”

“You do realize that we could end all of this by just telling Rhys? I know you have this whole thing about your pride and shit, but we could tell Rhys and he could pay off all your debts to him.”

“Feyre, I appreciate it, but I need to fight my own battles. I got myself into this mess, so I sure as hell can get myself out of it. Plus, I don’t like the idea of feeling like I owe my current employer money.”

“Nesta, sweetie, I love you… BUT YOU NEED TO PUT YOUR DAMN PRIDE TO THE SIDE FOR LIKE, TWO SECONDS AND ACCEPT HELP!”

“FEYRE-”

“Okay, can we yell about Nesta's issues at some time other than 6am? Also, is that bacon I smell?” Mor walked in holding her head and wearing one of Nesta's sweatshirts with some leggings.

“Yes, fattie. And it’s like, 10:30.” Feyre slapped Mor's hand away from a stack of pancakes cooling on the countertop.

“And I do not have any issues, Mor. I’m not the one that went partying with a dog last night.”

“Nesta, that is exactly the reason why you have issues. If you went partying with Duchess, maybe you would loosen up a bit. God knows you need it.”

“Brat.” Nesta threw a piece of toast at Mor's head.

“Thanks! Hey, Feyre, pass the butter.” Feyre slid the butter across the counter and cursed loudly when it just slid on the floor at Mor's feet. Facedown.

“Really, Feyre?” Nesta said in an exasperated tone.

“I’m sorry! I thought she would catch it!”

“That was our last stick of butter, you absolute dingbat!” Nesta sighed and picked up the keys to her car.

“Where are you going?” Mor asked, ever the worried friend thinking she had caused a family feud.

“To the store. We need more milk and eggs anyways. Tell me if you guys are gonna go out while I’m gone.” Nesta walked out the door of their spacious apartment and made her way over to the elevator, pressing the ground level button. She stormed over to her car, got in, and slammed the door shut. On her way to the store, she noticed that one of the local book stores was having a sale. She tried to ignore the voice in her head telling her that she had piles of unread books in her room, and all over the other communal areas of the apartment. She would just pop in after picking up the groceries. No big deal. She could restrain herself. Maybe.

Cassian woke up and made his way down the stairs towards the kitchen at 10am.

“Unbelievable.” Cassian sighed and picked up the piece of paper attached to Azriel's little note and crumpled it up. Then he uncrumpled it because he remembered he needed to see what it said. Cassian walked up to his room and threw on a sweatshirt, some slip-on vans, and grabbed his keys. He couldn’t remember why they decided to share groceries. He wanted to in the beginning, but now that he woke up without any food in the house because his brothers had eaten all of it he was thinking or re-evaluating that decision. Cassian slid into his car and made his way to the store.

When Nesta pulled up at the store she checked her phone and saw that Feyre had sent her a text while she was driving.

Feyby*: heyyyyyyyyy nes can you pleeeeeeeeeease get me some chocolate while you’re out :)?

Nestella*: k. anything else? im walking in now by the way

Feyby: nope! thank you love you! :)

Nestella: love you too

Nesta made her way towards the dairy aisle and picked up some 2% milk, a pack of four sticks of butter, and eggs. She quickly walked over to the candy aisle and began studying all her options, she took candy selecting very seriously.

“Nes?”

Cassian walked into the store and quickly picked up all the stuff on the list. Once he got to the last few items written he realized he wanted ice-cream for a movie night with the boys. He walked over to the dairy aisle and picked up a tub of cookies n’ cream right when Nesta Archeron stormed past him towards the candy aisle. He followed her because, well, he wanted to talk to her. But he needed to act like he wasn't stalking her cause she might yell at him.

“Nes?”

“Mother Above, Cassian! You scared the shit out of me don’t you dare do that ever again!”

Oh well.

“How did you not hear me coming? Are you really that focused on chocolate?”

“I’m selecting some chocolate for Feyre, and she is very picky so I was focused on reading what the ingredients were in each bar.” She seemed to have recovered from the scare because she just grabbed a random chocolate bar and stormed past him.

“Obviously you don’t care that much if you’re willing to just grab a random bar and walk away!” Cassian yelled at Nesta. Some other shoppers began to stare at him so he quickly said “Don’t worry, we work together. I know her, I’m not some random creep haha.” That just got him more strange looks though so he just made his way towards self-checkout and paid for the items and skirted outta there.

Nesta was so embarrassed while walking away from Cassian. People were staring at her! Ugh, Cassian needs to learn to not yell in public places. She walked over to her car after checking out and loaded her groceries into the boot. She needed a black iced coffee stat. Nesta began the quick drive to one of the local coffee shops and once she arrived she quickly sent the girls a text letting them know where she was.

Nestella: hey bitches im getting coffee you hoes want anything

Feyby: i want a mocha frappe pleeease              

Tiny Ancient One*: just get me a black americano girl

Mor Boobiez Plz*: i wanna iced coffee with whipped cream and caramel

Nestella: okay for everyone except Mor cause wtf that's not even an item on the menu

Mor Boobiez Plz: it is i swear! just ask them for it they did it when i asked!

Nestella: fine

“What can I get for you?” The guy working the register asked in a very monotone voice.

“One black iced coffee, one black americano, one mocha frappe, and one iced coffee with whipped cream and caramel sauce.”

“We don’t do that last one-” Nesta gave him a withering glare and he immediately changed his mind on what he was about to say.

“Those will be ready soon ma’am. Can I get a name for the order?”

“Nesta. Thank you.” Nesta walked over to the opposite side of the counter to wait while their coffee was being prepared.

“That was quite impressive the way you scared him into doing what you wanted him to, Sweetheart.”

“Cassian! Are you stalking me? Go away.”

“I’m not stalking you, I’m just here to get some coffee.” He smirked at her and picked up a latte that was set down beside him. He took a sip and looked Nesta up and down before smirking and saying “Hot.” he winked at her and left before she could yell at him. If he was being honest the coffee was actually the perfect temperature, but he just loved getting under Nesta Archerons skin.

OK so im gonna actually yell abt this au now the mphfpc!au is based on miss peregrines home for peculiar chufywguwihoejli but with a few differences based on my own headcanons for the books (e.g if u spend a lot of time around an individual peculiar u gain a bit of their power; not enuff to like Be Them but like. basics.) we’ll also be completely ignoring the “only women can be ymbrynes” bullshit bc i have other plans 4 the ladies also seasons r basically loops so u can travel back to them. technically canon bc of the one time xisuma took scar and cub to an earlier season once but this time every season is plagued with monsters rip.

so i have a planned list of peculiarities and other random junk below; read if you’d like:

xisuma: hes an ymbryne! he becomes a snowy owl at will. ymbrynes arent like caretakers in this au like they are in the books and instead are leaders? like the leader of a gang but less murdery/druggy/you get the picture.

biffa: also an ymbryne! he’s a crowned eagle, one of the most violent birds of prey. he vanished earlier in the season and x doesn’t exactly like talking about him very much.

joe: his peculiarity is more mild but he has enhanced empathy! he can sense others’ emotions and knows exactly how they feel. it often reflects on him as well. he’s also got an advanced form of synthesia which helps him write. he used to be able to jump forward in time itself, thus making him the most powerful hermit there, but after an encounter with ex a long time ago that ability has since been taken away. x seems to be a lot less on edge around joe now. in fact, a lot of the hermits do.

cleo: shes a redstone-powered zombie. she was killed by hollows in a previous season, but revived by doc so shes basically a robot in human flesh. however, due to injury, she’s completely mute. joe has like entire stacks of books from her writing in them, and if it weren’t for communicators he’d have many, many more.

grian: used to have wings; no longer has wings. his wings couldn’t be saved after an encounter with a hollow. unlike the other hermits who need rockets to propel them, grian is light as a sparrow, allowing him to fly without them. hes not an ymbryne though; ymbrynes have much deeper, more secret powers than just being birds. now that i think about it, hollows (and evil x) really do suck at killing people. it’s also been said that grian spectates another world in his dreams (he will not be quiet in his sleep. at all.). most of the hermits (except x and joe and grian himself) just blow it off as a myth though.

mumbo: controls redstone with his mind. basically a living lever. its incredibly draining, though, and redstone contraptions immediately shut down once hes not controlling them. he prefers doing traditional redstone. theoretically he could fully control cleo. but thats mean so he doesnt.

iskall: controls iskallium. he and jevin claim there is a difference between their abilities, but everyone else just has a chuckle out of it. he’s also started to notice that whenever he walks, the ground around him drops a few degrees.

stress: full ice and snow manipulation. she mainly uses this to make ice sculptures around her base, rather than anything actually important. shes also immune to the cold. iskall’s best friend.

ren: he was able to communicate fluidly with animals. however, he was also tragically obstinate which caused him to meet an equally tragic end. i might still have plans for him.

false: uncanny fighting skills. almost cannot be beat in battle. her pain tolerance is also extremely high. she’s become a lot more distant and snappish since ren died, and whenever she isnt busy she can be found by any of ren’s builds. she’s incredibly bitter about cleo.

doc: he can raise the dead with redstone! nobody knows how, since the other redstoners like tango and mumbo can’t do the same thing. it might just be a doc thing.

tango: f i r e. he can manipulate fire, much like how stress can manipulate ice. his horns also glow when he’s happy! they also glow at night, though less intensely. zed tried to touch tango’s horns once. zed also had to go see stress for minor burns 5 minutes later.

zed: his is a little hard to describe? he’s got a power similar to dragon’s breath, as he is affiliated with the end. admittedly this is just an advanced form of my normal zed headcanon. hes also the only hermit capable of exploring the void without dying. he describes it as, “very voidy”. as of late he’s been seeing shadows in shopping district or far corners of hermits’ bases, but tango and impulse tell him not to worry about it too much. impulse: he can manipulate darkness & shadows. tango’s joked that his shirt is made out of shadow and thats why its black. i know some people here wished that was true.

tfc: part wight. because of this, he can see wights and hollows. x was incredibly skeptical about him at first, thinking he’d betray the hermits, but after several seasons of fighting hollows with and living alongside tfc, he’s finally warmed up to the older hermit. 

scar: vex magic! he and cub have always had vex magic, and this shared ability allowed them to bond. scar has a bit more trouble controlling it, however, and relies on cub for comfort. this has resulted in far less accidents than the hermits had anticipated, fortunately. he can also see hollows, but theyre scary so if he sees them he freezes up rather than fighting them. fortunately, other hermits do help him out of these situations.

cub: also has vex magic! vex magic happens to be incredibly potent against hollows, but he can’t see them and scar goes into a cold sweat when he sees them so neither of them can exactly fight very well against them.

jevin: controls slime! hangs out with iskall on a fairly regular basis. he also claims there’s a difference between he and iskall’s abilities. theoretically he could chuck his entire head at you if he wanted to. 

keralis: sonic screams. he can shatter glass and your ears with this ability. surprisingly he still has a very nice voice.

python: controls plants! he takes advantage of this in combat a lot. however, he also enjoys just having a cute little flower garden somewhere. deserts are pretty much hell for him. 

wels: metallokinesis! he forged his own armor w this, and is a reliable blacksmith. additionally, he’s a decent fighter as well. he and py are often the go-to hermits when fighting needs to be done, especially since false is MIA most of the time and biffa is MIA all of the time.

evil xisuma: hes a ymbryne gone rogue; he’s sided with the wights. he’s the og, having created hollows and wights on purpose to get revenge on xisuma. he can become a crow at will, but he prefers the human form.

He was one of the key components of the first order, and if it came to light that you had been there when the resistance had killed or tortured him, your head would be on the line. But there was another risk. hux would have access to all undercover agents. Even if he himself never personally looked through them and saw the pictures (in case an agent was accidently caught by the order, it meant they would be able to cover themselves), it would put the others in several danger. “3 years down the drain.” You hissed to yourself as you angrily punched in the numbers to let yourself into your room. Grabbing everything you would need for a fight and anything you needed for yourself. You tried to think how you were going to do this. you highly doubted the general would come quietly. He didn’t trust people in his inner circle, why would he trust a resistance worker. No, you would need to gain his trust, at least enough to get him to let you lead him out of here. Stepping inside, you saw the General of the side you were fighting on for the first time in person. He glared at you, much like Phasma had described before. His thick, first order coat that had his strips that showed his ranking was discarded on a chair to the side. The general himself was restrained in a chair. Hux stood as you moved to his coat and threw it at him. Hux grabbed it and threw it over his shoulders. “in that corner.” You ordered the men into the corner on the opposite side of the room. They huddled up like children just as your phone started to buzz. you pulled it out and saw the name ‘Sally Dawson’. Quickly, you answered it. “Hi Phasma.” You greet cheerfully. “[y/n], we have a big problem-“ She starts to say but you cut her off. “Waaay ahead of you. I’ll be back in about 2 hours.” You tell her. She lets out a very faint chuckle, since you were one of her favourites to deal with and she had a great respect for you. some might even call it some warped kind of friendship. “did you blow you cover?” She asks. “Oh right out of the water.” You nod, chuckling a little yourself. You couldn’t wait to tell her she had phoned you while you were holding some of the top security hostage. “just get Hux back to the base. We can deal with a new position for you later.” She tells you. “Okay, but I want a raise.” You call over the phone and she chuckles yet again. You were sure by the look of Hux’s face that he had never heard anyone speak with Phasma on such a friendly basis. “I’ll see what I can do.” She returns to professionalism and the line goes dead. “Right, General, you might want this.” You reach down and hold out one of the fallen guns to him, which he takes with a nod. “We wont forget this.” Manford growls at you. “im quite sure you wont.” You nod as you go to the door and look out. When you saw there was no one in the hallway, you gestured for Hux to step out of the room. He was quick and quiet, only keeping a suspicious eye on you as he did so. Once outside, you closed the door over and locked it from the outside. The only good thing about the interrogation taking place in a cell. Picking up your bag, you walk quickly down the hallway towards the bay where your ship was. “So, if anyone comes across us, you’re holding me hostage. They wont shook. They think im too valuable.” You tell him as he struggles to keep up with you. he had a had limp. So you fall back a little, walking in line with the general. Hux gives a sharp nod as his eyes watch for any movement. But thankfully, you didn’t run into anyone. You had to do some sneaking to get past some of the guards on the loading bays but you were able to get to your ship with no issues. At least that was one thing to be grateful for. Once inside and safe, you rushed to your seat and quickly started up your ship. “You might want to strap yourself in.” You nod to the seat beside you intended for a second pilot but it was pushed back so could be sat in for leisure. “Do you not know how to fly?” Hux finally spoke, sounding like he was snapping a little at you but you supposed he wasn’t use to getting bossed about. “I know how to fly, but I don’t know how long before they start trying to target us. You have a limp, so you’re obviously a little unsteady on your feet. I aint facing Phasmas writhe all because you insisted you stand and end up knocking yourself out because he got hit.” You snap back a little as you flicked some switches to make sure everything was fine. Hux took the seat without any further questions as your ship rose up off the ground and headed for the exit. You were just thankful that this particular base was on a small planet, meaning you didn’t have to worry about getting permission to leave from command. But it would seem you had little to worry about. You made it off the planet and into space without incident. You quickly set the coordinates for the starkiller base and allowed your ship to do the rest. It was very up to date and you were able to set an auto pilot feature when there was a straight shot. Getting out of your seat, you went to the back of your small craft and grabbed a med kit out of the compartment. Returning to hux, you placed the med kit open on your seat as you kneeled beside him. His hands looked like a good place to start, with cuts on his knuckles and fingers. you grabbed some cotton buds and anti-septic from the kit and took his hand gently in your own so you could dap the areas. He flinched a little with pain, to which you quickly apologised. “how long were you under cover?” Hux asked, seeming to not like the silence. Or just looking for any reason to break it. “3 years.” You tell him. “then I did some work in other places for a couple of years before that.” “Captain Phasma, she sounds like she trusts you.” Hux stated rather than asked. “I think so. Ive never given her a reason not to.” You shrug, placing his right hand on his lap and reaching for his left. “Our system. You got in –“ Hux started but you cut him off. “Really quickly? I should hope so. I helped design it. I should know how it works.” You chuckle a little, nodding your head. You were sure he had other cuts that should be dealt with other than the ones you could see, but you didn’t think he would remove his shirt for you (no matter how much you wanted him to) so you move to his face. you work quickly and Hux allows you. in truth, he is enchanted with you. your gentle touch and soft smile made his heart flutter unlike anything it had ever done in his life. He had been seen by nurses before, but this just felt a little more intimate for him. Maybe because you didn’t have to do this. He would have been fine to wait till you got back to the base. But you went out of your way to make sure he was okay. He’d always like women who gave off a strong aura. He knew his future wife (if he had one) would have to have a level head and be able to handle the stress that came with his name. you did so with both grace and wit. he liked it. “im afraid I don’t have anything for your eye.” You bit your lower lip and look to the box. “you have done quite enough, I assure you.” hux gives you a small chuckle which takes you off guard. From what you had heard, he was a stern and strict man. Perhaps you had gained a little more trust from him than intended. Not that you minded. “Do you know what you will do next?” Hux asks you as you close over the medical box and return it to its original place. “umm…” you return to your seat, thinking it over. “I really don’t know. Maybe I’ll try get one of those cosy office jobs that pay well.” “Are you still looking for a raise?” Hux raises an eyebrow at you and immediately sees a twinkle in your eye. “I should hope so. From what ive seen, you have quite the bounty on your head. I think that’s worth at least a 10% raise and a week extra holidays.” You laugh and Hux chuckles at your remark. “I have a proposition for you.” Hux turns more towards you. “im listening.” You were suddenly a lot more invested in this conversation. “im looking for an assistant. Someone who can deal with paper work and such but still understands the inner working of the first order. Subject to speaking with Phasma and the supreme leader, would you take that job offer?” Hux asks you and you stare with wide eyes at him. “I would certainly consider it very seriously.” You nod, not wanting to sound overly eager. “But why me? Im sure you have thousands of officers who would be perfect for the role who haven’t been away for years.” “It would need to be someone I could tolerate. And you are unlike any officer in my command. It would be refreshing.” He sits back a little, his eyes locked with your own. you didn’t know when you woke up that morning that you would have to do any of this. Abandon your post to save the general and flee the rebels base. Let alone find some kind of kinship with said general. “I would still get a raise?” you ask with a smirk which he quickly returns. “One I guarantee you wont be able to refuse.” Hux nods. “well then, General, I suppose you have yourself an assistant.” You extend your hand to him. His lips twitches to a smile as he reaches out and shakes your hand.

When the divorce happened, you watched your mother pack his things from the corner. When she leaned in to tell you goodbye, you flinched. You told her you hated her. But that was only because you were afraid.

You see, being a monster is easy. And admitting you care is hard.

You were never good. No, that’s for certain. You’ve said too many bad things. You’ve slammed too many doors. You’ve thrown too many fits.

But oh, how you’ve always wished you were.

kiet anh pham (nicknamed kit) was born to parents who, he was mostly certain, never loved him.

it’s not like they were incapable of it. they tried their hardest. even as their own marriage fell apart, there was still love there. at least for his younger sister, mailan, for for his other siblings.

but that was easy. everyone loved mailan. she was cute and soft and she did all the right things. kit- was-, well, kit. he had never really made it easy for them.

he was the only son of a high-society pureblooded family and he acted like it: rich and spoiled, he grew up a little monstrous and more than a little disrespectful. he would do things without really thinking of the consequences and make more trouble than he really meant to.

looking back, he was probably just acting out because he knew what was coming. he knew his parents were going to leave each other. and he, well, all he ever knew was the only time they ever did anything together was when they yelled at him.

in retrospect, all that did was probably make the divorce happen faster. 

but he didn’t know.

he just wanted them- to tell him no. 

he didn’t think they would really leave.

honestly, for kit, the only thing good that came out of his parent’s divorce is- z. 

while the two of them had known of each other before and might have even considered each other friends, when he gained a new brother, kit saw a light at the end of a tunnel. 

it was all fun and games at first. they shared a bunk bed and a room. z taught him about pokemon and beyblades and kit did his best to pretend not to be interested. they played aurors and robbers. they got up to tons of mischief, stayed up way too late, talked way too much. so, though kit didn’t stop being trouble, it was- the best thing in the world to have someone all too willing to share the blame and laugh. he had always liked being a brother, but, with z, he found that he loved– having one.

tw abuse mention and then, i guess, bc all good things come to an end.  he got old enough to understand what had happened to z and his mother. and, filled with deep-rooted hatred for the muggles that raised z, unable to reconcile that anger into anything else but broad generalizations, he ended up joining the death eaters. 

it was actually a targeted recruitment (wanted connection here, i suppose). the phams and diggorys were well-connected and well-off, but not de-aligned. someone offered kit guidance and purpose and preyed upon his already existent hatred for muggles and voila! he signed up— and (unbeknownst to him at the time) signed away z’s, mailan’s and his own futures.

i think right now– to put it in the most concise terms. kit is having– growing pains. z has withdrawn from the family, doing work for the de higher ups that he clearly doesn’t care to tell kit about. mailan is working as a double agent for the de, in direct contact with the student leaders, and there’s so much that she has to hide. safe to say, they’re both doing- better than he is. 

so what if he’s jealous? that he joined up first and everyone else in his family is doing bigger things than he is. so what if he’s sad? he no longer has the confidante and friend he used to have. he’s the oldest brother and none of his siblings even need him anymore. and so what if he’s scared? that all of them are in over their heads. that he got them into a bad decision. that—  mailan and z going to do what his mother did and leave him the second they find out what the world is like without him.

he’s never made it easy to be loved, he knows, but that’s never made it hurt any less.

this time, kit is thinking things through. he’s taking precautions. before his mother left, kit begged for him to stay. he lashed out. he threw a tantrum. he cried. he ended up saying some things that can never be taken back. that was pathetic. this time, he won’t do any of that.

so what if z wants to be distant? go. kit doesn’t care. 

so what if mailan is risking her life every single day? that’s all fine. kit won’t worry.

so what if the death eaters don’t want him in their uber-secret and top-level ranks? okay. kit has other things to do.

within the last year, kit has proclaimed his lifelong goal is to photosynthesize, a concept, he entirely doesn’t grasp but has heard of through his vague understanding of muggle science. “drink, soak in the sun and breathe good? sounds okay to me.” 

he’s very purposely going to not care about things. he’s going to do nothing that doesn’t benefit him directly. he’s not going to care at all. he was never good at being loved, never good at being good— so now he won’t even try. 

it’s a good plan. after all, in this world, you can really only be certain of one thing: people leave. you have to look out for yourself.

to break things down in the most concise way, I think I need to talk about the connections and difference between Kit’s actions and his feelings. i think that kit has big feelings and just no way of communicating them. he’s afraid of looking weak, of being vulnerable. he’s afraid that he’ll give them something else not to love.

even tho mailan and z are the MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE In THE WORLD TO HIM, he has absolutely put them down publicly, sometimes (recently) even to their face. it’s his way of saying im insecure and i don’t care that u guys are leaving me and being much more accomplished than me

probably most like cress— in that they’re both opinionated, misguided and committed to the de. They’re just… misguided in different ways. Cress doesn’t really lie about the way he feels. Cress genuinely thinks what he is doing is right. He thinks the sacrifices he has made are worth it. Cress has some level of altruism (even tho…he is selfish too). Cress is smart and calculated and, well, frankly impressive. Kit is the opposite of all of that. He’s reactionary, impulsive, selfish and… inadequate in so many ways.

one thing of note is that he can’t talk himself out of situations like Cress can. Kit makes mistakes— and has to live with them. Cress doesn’t blame himself but will “accept responsibility”. Kit blames himself.

kit is also way less behaved that cress. cress will make a bad prank and laugh if he stands by it and then, say sorry after a little bit. kit will do something absolutely awful and feel awful and still laugh while hating himself wildly. kit will also never apologize.

like rose, he’s having a truly rough time with growing up. he wishes things could go back to the way they were. but unlike rose, he refuses to cling to his childhood innocence. he’s pushing himself to grow up way faster than he’s actually comfortable with and that’s really causing intense angst. kit is exactly the kind of person who has and will make fun of rose for things that even he himself are guilty of. 

apparently I also have a thing for older siblings bc … rose, jasper and kit are all really protective of their siblings. But while rose and jasper mainly manifest this in healthy ways (if anything, probably … a little too overprotective), kit is a tiny lil shitball full of irrationality. bursts of being way too controlling and, when that’s not received well, sulking in a corner.

lowkey… he’s awful, but, because he’s motivated purely out of irrationality and spite and not logic, he’s my de character with the most chance for redemption.he’s … awful. he acts awful. he thinks muggles n muggleborns r backwards n dont deserve rights. he’s half cocky quips and half … just like offensive comments. gross. when ur a pureblood rich boy, u can care about literally nothing and say whatever u want get away with it. the only problem is… he does care. he cares so much. he’s worried about his bb sister and his step bro, but doesn’t have the emotional strength to show it. he worries about the future n what he’s going to do. but most of all, he worries that if people know that he cares… that they’ll think he’s weak (which tbh he is).

stop being jealous and bitter!

Now i know you cant outright just throw away your jealousy in the art community. You see a really cool popular artist or just someone with absolutely amzing art and you think “wow holy shit their art is so good i wish that was me and that i could do that....” I understand that spite can be a good thing sometimes; it can be what motivates you to improve and do well, especially if the artist is well... not the best person in terms of personality. Great, that’s even more motivation to do well right!? 

But when does all the comparing go too far?

Now i’ve had people very close to me do this. I’ve been told that im ‘popular’ which im honestly not seriously. They could probably be reading this right now, but this has been bothering me for awhile so i must get this out there. Let’s step into a certain mindset for a moment:-

You hate your artwork. You hate your current skills. Sure there are artists you like. But then there are ‘THOSE’ ones. You have very specific artists you follow just because theyre so good and popular they make you feel bitter and you still check up on them regularly to fuel that bitterness. You know good and well that they make you bitter and angry and peeved but you just keep going back.

Step back for a moment and think.... why on earth am i fucking doing this???? Comparing and feeling bitter about another persons skill or popularity and letting yourself stay sad and bitter isn’t good for ANYTHING, art aside. It’s good to want to feel validated at the work you spent time on but it WILL get tiring if you keep complaining that ‘your art is bad’, ‘your art isnt good’, ‘its shit’ or ‘garbage’. Your brain is just internalizing that and hindering your work and future improvement. It’s most importantly WASTING YOUR own time, YOU the creator. And not to sound snobby here, i really truly dont intend for that, but some of you know good and well that you keep belitting you work because you only just want people to compliment your art when youre only doing the bare minimum to improve! I can only tell you as a friend or an on-looker that i love your art so many times (as much i really do love it and hope for your improvement) if you continuously decide to still turn around and say you hate your work and tell me im wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why reach for compliments then! Why continuously turn them down?

And i’m not saying you cant ever not like your art (cause it happens) or decline a compliment, but to do it every single time....it leaves a bad image for your work. You either start to believe it, or the person complimenting you will get put off from your negativity!  

It makes people feel bad, especially if theyre also artist AND also your friends. You can’t keep saying you prefer their work and still put down your own. It makes your artist friend uncomfortable. They might not know how to respond when you keep doing it. And im sure they wouldnt want you to keep making yourself feel bad. Personally, i wish all my art friends success and improvement, and i want them to love and feel proud of their work more than the times they hate it. We really need to uplift each other as artists.

What you think and say is what you become and if youre always negative and comparing youre gonna tear down both the person you admire and yourself. Ie, if youre constantly thinking ‘ill never be as good as this person’,’no ones ever gonna like my work’, ‘i cant color as well as they do’ or saying that your work is only ever garbage... newsflash asshole! your mind absorbs that negativity and makes you believe it! u fool!!!!! Because brains are stupid and can be your worst enemy at times! 

Sometimes you just need to stOP looking at certain peoples work completely if it gets you that bitter or angry or sad. Unfollow them! Block them! Delete their name from your search history if you have to! Stop hurting yourself and forget about them, it’s like trying to think about an ex thats moved on. Pointless.

Negative emotions such as sadness and anger are our brains direct ways at trying to reach out to ourselves.

You: seeing cool art Your mind: remembering you dont have some of those skills or popularity + comparing = sadness/ anger/ bitterness at not being able to be at that lvl withtin the same timeframe or less

Your brain is trying to tell you to fix this! But you know you might not have the tools to gain that much popularity or become so good at anatomy, coloring , compositions or backgrounds overnight, so the only solution for your brain is to self-sabotage.

It’s just the same as suddenly feeling sad for no reason. It’s your mind trying to work out a problem you never resolved. Maybe your friends haven’t replied in awhile and you feel ignored. Or you subconsciously remembered a bad experience without really realizing. You’ll get sad. Your mind is is saying ‘Hey asshole im sad. I know it might be out of your control but I’ll stay sad about this one thing until you resolve it somehow. ’ (whether it be blindly distracting yourself on purpose or fully wallowing in the feelings)

So we realized youre feeling intensely about this persons work vs your own...then what exactly happened there? The answer is pretty simple. Some kind of information processing happened in your brain. The result of this processing made the your mind conclude that one of your existing problems (art in this case) can never be solved; whether conscious or unconscious, and this explains why your mood might change all of a sudden without any kind of warning signs (in relation to what you saw). 

Inspired VS Jealousy When youre inspired youre working against yourself in a GOOD way. You’re feeling motivated to make something great! Youre feeling motivated to make something better than the last piece!! And honestly thats wonderful!!!  That is a lot nicer than being in art-block, comparison negativity hell.

YOU are the only one responsible for where you are as an artist. That goes towards every artist of every skill level! There’s always someone better than you and there’s always someone worse than you. People get better at art in different intervals depending on how much they take in or put into practicing. Some people just get some concepts and fundamentals a lot easier and quicker than others but that doesn’t mean they naturally had that ability from birth. They put in the work just as you should be doing instead of feeling so intensely negative! But when you’re jealous and negative all the time, that’s when it starts to go downhill. :/

Jealously is a very human emotion at its core. And im not saying its super easy to deal with and just suddenly get over, but there are things you can do to slowly help yourself do it at least a little less.

Here’s the best things you CAN do instead:- - Write down some of the things you find yourself feeling bitter over about, especially when you look at another artists work? Ask yourself why these specific things? If it’s something you yourself can work on in your own pieces then maybe uh do that?  - Find the time to practice your work. - Practice even more. - If it’s your style that you arent happy with think of the artstyles you like and set aside time to mimic the way that artist might draw something (hence adding that to YOUR style). Take a sketchbook page or two and just draw entirely in those styles. - Practice. I can’t stress this enough. I know artists say this a lot and it can kind of just be thrown around carelessly, but if you keep putting this off and saying you don’t want to practice or talking about how time is going by when you should be practicing things.... and STILL refuse to practice then???? I cant help you sorry. Time waits for no one, so sometimes you need to grab time by the horns and kick its ass for awhile. Put in that effort! - Please use references. Even better if you use it nearly EVERYTIME you draw something, especially yknow...if its a pose, body part or background that you know you have no idea how to properly express! Find a stock image or a variety of websites to use! Save poses that you like from online magazines, other artists and photographs you see anywhere online. I like to look at online magazines from other countries or photographers, and there are tons of places like pinterest or instagram and whatnot. - Stop comparing and being bitter. Ii cant say this enough it gets me so ticked off, but my stubborn taurus self refuses to fully go off until it all piles up and this post is the result lol. If you know you can’t let go hating on a certain artist (for no good reason) then dont hate-follow them! Don’t check up on their work constantly! Don’t even talk about them!!!!!!! Try to get them out of your head for goodness sakes. Majority of the time they dont even know who YOU are so why are you worried about what they’re up to. - STOP SHITTING ON YOUR OWN WORK. - STOP IT RIGHT NOW. - AS THE ARTIST SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO FORCE YOURSELF TO SAY ‘’hey, my work isn’t exactly where i want it to be at this point in time and it may never be but i can appreciate that i’ve gotten better at a lot of things and im better than where i was a few years/ a year/ a month ago/ even weeks ago.” - ”I’m proud of this piece and can’t wait to get even better.” - Art is a struggle that takes time, effort and a lot of work. There’s always going to be someone better than you and there’s always going to be someone worse than you. You can only strive to get to the level that would make you happiest, otherwise you will get irritated with it and feel absolutely miserable about everything you produce. - PUT IN THE WORK TO GET YOUR ART OUT THERE. Social media has been both a curse and a blessing to artists all around. It’s made it easier for us to share our work around and opened paths for making money online and at home and connecting with other artists, but competition grows everyday as more people post their work in the same market. (ie another reason why it can be hard to get your commissions out there) Also as artists we want that dopamine rush you get from people liking your stuff, i get that its gucci. -But if you aren’t tagging your works well, posting somewhat consistently, not really bothering to talk to people in certain art communities (even people in your fandom because hey potential friends and even partners on future projects), not adding your works to groups (a big problem i see with people on places like deviantart mostly), joining and sharing them in art group chats/aminos/discords, joining events to get yourself out there (such as zines/big bangs/gift exchanges etc), giving tips and advice or even little helpful tutorials to people then how do you expect to be noticed? How.  If youre not doing at least TWO of these things then hoW can you complain about not getting attention. :(

 Of course you dont have to do ALL of this. Im just saying ...if you arent out there advertising how will more people know about you? This leads to you thinking no one likes your art (skill level excluded because even my cringiest old art would have a few comments or encouragements to see my future improvement, and i still want to hide when people like/comment/reblog said old art to this very day). 

I understand mainly OC artists feel this way that no ones gonna like their characters, or it just doesnt get reblogged enough in general but thats understandable too. No one is ‘selling out’ if they only do fanart. No one is ‘snobby or scared to get themselves out there’ if theyre really enthusiastic about their stories and worlds. Otherwise we wouldnt have fandoms int he first place, theyre all someones work. And hell, good for you if you draw both. It’ll take some time but there IS always someone out there that likes your stuff. And sometimes you just have to be content with making work for yourself, work that makes you happy. The online art world is tough especially when youre small but once you fall into the depths of bitterness its hard to rewire your mind...

This is how yall should be looking at your/others work majority of the time: You: seeing cool art  Your mind: omg thats beautiful! i wish i could draw and paint like that. i should practice more , try out some poses and anatomy or implement what they do into my work. i wanna make a cool ass piece like this too i feel so pumped to draw and work!! 

And that’s that! Do yourself a favor and be happier you bastards! Its tiring being negative and sad all the time and i want tf out of it. Its so very tiring and annoying to be sad and bitter as shit!!!!! My goD

I can’t really think of anything else to add to this and the text may appear angry sometimes as i was very heated when i wrote this but tried to tone it down a lot hfkds. Im not some ‘art guru goddess with supreme skill uwuw’ but advice is advice! It’s always up to the person listening to take it or not.

 Well, I can’t really express anything but amazement at such an accomplishment, and to be honest I’m pretty blown away that so many of you have stuck with me since the beginning of this blog, and that so many of you enjoy Professor Oak enough to stay. I’ll forever stand by the fact that this blog was the best 'joke’ I ever made, and probably one of the most fulfilling things I’ve actively kept at. 

As much as I hope this blog has helped you find comfort and laughter, RPing Professor Oak has definitely changed me for the better, as well. It has given me an outlet to heal parts of myself and provide help to others, and also pushed me to practice positivity even when I know I get so low sometimes that I don’t even want to try. Another bonus is that I have met wonderful people here, most of you just strictly friends on the dash, but I’ve also gained relationships with people that have extended into discord and I’m sure it has made all the difference this past year and a half. 

As usual, I’m not really a fan of long-winded gushes of emotion, so I’ll keep it short, but I would really like to have it be known that my love for Professor Oak has grown tremendously, in ways I would have never reached without taking the time to thoughtfully craft his backstory and work to develop him further. I know he’s a very nostalgic character that so many of us know and respect that I’m always very careful of how I choose to build on the image without ruining what’s already there.  Out of all my many muses here, this one has seemingly ( and surprisingly ) all at once snuck its way as my primary blog; the blog I always look forward to logging into the most, where I enjoy following your activity whether it be IC or OOC, and just generally enjoy being in the presence of people so passionate about a fandom associated with my childhood. I love this little corner of a community that has welcomed me and engaged with me and unknowingly kept me going, and to look back at my experience and see that I’ve had no trouble at all makes me feel really lucky.

There will never be a way to fully and accurately express my thanks, but I will say it anyway: thank you so much, and I hope that no matter where you go, and no matter what you do, you are trying to be your best, and that you’re happy. Professor Oak will always be there to congratulate you when you reach your dreams.
