It's been a long time since they've been here.In fact, I've been cold to them for a long time. But recently, at my leisure, I decided to remember them, it was nice.

It's been a long time and I've been able to rethink a lot of the stories, but the main points in the story remain, and I'd like to tell them. But I strongly doubt that I have the patience to draw it all.

Shamura is still one of my favorites. I wanted to make him the most controversial character. I drew his image when there was still no crown on his head.

I remember Shawmura saying he caught his crown in a net, this prompted me to headcanon that his crown was not meant for him. I've had this headcanon for a very long time, and in the early artwork you can see that Shawarma uses a regular spear and doesn't use the crown due to the fact that he couldn't quite curb it. But it's worth saying that later on he was able to curb it like no mortal would be able to. I can say that Sharuma had very high self-esteem when he was young.

Callamar, I think he's getting unduly neglected. And I don't like that he's portrayed solely as a coward. I like that he can be very cunning and very self-loving. And I wanted to revisit one point in his story. I wrote earlier that he was relatively at ease with the role of a mortal, but now I think that's not true. To explain, Kallamar as well as Leshy and Narinder were gods from childhood, from early childhood, because of this their adaptation was the most difficult and one could say unbearable. Imagine being on top all your life and losing everything in one moment, it's very difficult and the only happy moment is that Kallamar is alive.

And I can also see that Kallamar has various hobbies that would seem strange or creepy to many people and all of them would be about bodies and their insides. Given that Kallamar personified disease he had a lot of medical knowledge, simply because his region was the most commonly affected by it, and because Kallamar was very hard to please as a god. But we should not forget that he was primarily a god of disease, not medicine. Under him, in general, it is better not to bring up these topics at all or risk repeating the experience of Tom Cardy's poor guy from Red Flags.

I love Hekat. I share those who see her as strong, independent and very responsible. The way in the game itself she was ahead of all her brothers as if taking everything upon herself after Shamura received the head grass. Also, according to her headcanon, she received her crown like Sharuma already at a conscious age and she managed to live in the settlement and was a loyal follower. This experience, as for me, made her more down to earth, even though her character was hot-tempered.

If we talk about her life before the crown, then even before that Hecate was a respected woman. She was one of the students, and her word was very important. Because of this, she was also very popular among men, although none of her marriages were successful, and not because of bad relationships. Those years were very difficult times for the gods and this also affected the followers. You can say that there were difficulties with survival.

Now, you could say she is on a well-deserved vacation, although at first she helped her brothers adapt for some time, but still, despite how difficult it was for them, they are no longer children and she is tired of dragging them by the hand everywhere.

Well, and Leshy, the youngest. I can't say anything new. Those who have seen it before know that in my universe he has a daughter from a yellow cat. I would like to devote more time to his spouse. Dark Simon Riley x Abducted reader teaser

Fucking Aldi, cheap Lidl knock off but cheap is what he is going for and the nearest Lidl is thirty minutes away and there’s no way he’s going to Sainsbury’s. But this was the best he was going to get, the safehouse round the corner but completely void of food even though John had told him differently. Simon lazily looked over the high protein ready meals, there was nothing that looked particularly good. All of them watery and speckled with condensation, none of them look appetising but he grabs a Thai green curry and a chocolate protein shake hoping he can stomach the meal once it’s hot.

He trips over himself changing direction from the self checkout area to the bread shelves when he thinks of toast for breakfast before he’s picked up by the heli. As he turns the corner, you’re there. A pallet taller than you full of bread crates, you’re on your tippy toes reaching for the top one, face going red as you almost drop it. You move quickly taking the old ones off and placing the new ones on to put the old crates on top of the new ones.

A tedious motion but part of your job so you do it without a complaint. Simon has to jerk himself back into action when he realises he’s been standing there just staring at you, basking in the silence that seems to swallow you. His life is so loud and you’re so quiet, he’s entranced with it, with how in your own head you are. He can see you’re thinking, pretty eyes moving quickly to keep up with your thoughts. You’re not the most gorgeous women he’s ever seen in his life but fuck you’re pretty. The kind of pretty that makes him wish his children take their features from their mother instead of him.

He’s so awkward when he slips past you to grab a loaf of half and half, not so subtly taking a deep breath of your scent in, closing his eyes for a moment. And in that second he doesn’t see that it’s wrong, doesn’t see that even if it’s not wrong, it’s weird. It looks weird to your colleague who comes over and says you’ll be on the self checkout for the next half an hour while she takes her break. You just nod and put the bread pallet away before making your way to the self checkout. Fob keys in hand and a bright yellow gilet on that makes you look washed out.

There’s something in him that festers when he thinks about you later that night as he stares up at the crumbly ceiling. How unhappy you looked. The slump of your body showing how exhausted you really were even when you painted that fake smile on your face for the whiny customers. Like how a clown paints his face for his performance so he’s always smiling even when he’s crying.

No sparkle in your eyes, nothing twinkling there, no life gleaming behind those pretty coloured orbes of yours. You just looked so miserable. He couldn’t stand it. It caused a pain in his chest to grow in a way he doesn’t understand. A pain that ferments and rots his insides so much so that he returns to the supermarket once more.

Maria Robotnik VS Sonic 3

So I watched Sonic 3 last december and I can’t stop thinking abt it. Especially what they did with the Shadow and Maria story, so now Ive come here to speak my mind and go through just how GOOD of an adaption they are in the movie. Holy shit. That was wild.

Ill be comparing Game!Maria and Movie!Maria and how their characters work in the story. Im sure there are hundreds of analyzis out there of them that might be saying the same things I will. Idk I havent watched any, but these are my own thoughts Ive gathered from watching the movies and the games. So I hope they make as much sense to you as they do to me lmao.

Because, good lord, it must have been difficult for the writers to handle the question “how do you adapt the story of a hedgehog made by the blood of space alien colonizers all in favour of saving sick child from dying?“

What did the writers do? Well lets see.

To understand the difference between Movie!Maria and Game!Maria we need to understand what Maria as a character does to the story. So lets start there.

Game!Maria

Maria robotnik in the games serves a special roll that promotes her to something more than just a character. Game Maria is a symbol. Her story is set from the moment we learn of her, and her character is more there for plot reasons rather than being an independent veichle in her story. The Maria we meet is soft spoken, compassionate, a fanatic and an inspiration for Shadow. She’s dressed in blue with golden hair and with a leap in her step. There is little fault to be found in her because thats not what she’s ment to be. Maria is a representation of innocence.

She’s a sick child who wishes for everyone on earth to be happy, and all of this is ment to lead you to the horrors of her then being killed. But the point is, Maria in the games is stagnant. She represents the life that Shadow had on the ARK, but more importantly, she represents SHADOWS innocence. Maria as a character is not her own story but rather a subpart of Shadows, and that is where we find the biggest difference with the Games and the movie. Dont even get me started on the almost religious imagery that follows her around. I mean, her names MARIA. Her roll is to be the center of love in Shadow’s life. Shes a sister, a best friend and even motherly at times. And while Shadow generations definetly gives us more of a laid back version of her, we can still see her maintain that untouchable rightousness that makes her character almost age-less. In a sense. She’s a child to highlight her innocence, yet in all other terms she really isn’t. Game Maria is an idea.

So what does the movies do then?

Movie!Maria

Sonic 3 saw all this and decided to do smth a bit different. To introduce such a compex narrative in a movie for children would definetly have been... Difficult, so instead they tone down the version a bit and make it their own thing. Who does Maria become? She becomes a CHARACTER.

Movie Maria is a child who is going to be living at a base filled with adults and scientists. She walks into the first scene with caution and nervousness, and yet as she meets Shadow, she finds a kin. And who we meet is a Maria that is goofy, mischevous, gleeful and daring. She’s a child here. She builds blanket forts, throws pop-corn at her brother, makes him driver her around on roller-skates and plays the guitar. Movie Maria is not ment to represent more than what she is, and still, it works. Movie Maria is innocent but she’s not the definition of it. She’s a person that shadow lost rather than an idea that he lost. The Maria we meet in the movie is a moving character that was abruptly stopped by external forces. She was always ment to have a future and a story, and yet she lost that. Movie Maria’s tragedy lies in her lost potential while Game Maria’s tragedy lies in her inevitable outcome. This also creates a difference in what they do to Shadows own personal journey, which ill get into more later.

So before that one more thing I love that they do with Movie Maria is that they still let her keep that inspirational part. She’s the one to inteoduce the line “the light shines even though the star is gone“ to Shadow and unknowingly ends up helping Shadow in his grief. While Game Maria is activly trying to bring positive change to Shadow’s life, Movie Maria uninentionally does that simply by showing kindness and love. She is still Shadows sister who was always there for him and loved him, just in a different light. She is still his moral compass. Shadow can be a good person because of her impact on his life, and in my opinion, as long as she fits the afformentioned categories then Maria can be whatever the writers want her to be.

So last but not least, lets talk abt her sickness.

Maria’s Sickness

Game Maria is deathly sick. Her days are numbered until a cure can be found, and the only hope left for her is Shadow. This creates a dependency between the two because suddenly, Shadow’s life isnt his own. He is alive for and because of Maria. She’s a part of his identity, so what happens when he loses that part of himself? This internal conflict directly influences Shadow’s self worth. Shadow is as much angry for losing her as he’s angry for losing himself. The very reason to why he says “goodbye shadow the hedgehog“ in Shadow 05 is because he can no longer be the same person after losing Maria. His goals and his dreams are haltered when the ARK gets invaded, ans it all leads back to Maria’s sickness.

Which is why... Well... The fact that the movie removes this part of Maria sure is... A choice.

And while I understand that showing a sick child who is then killed by the military would probbaly raise a few eyebrows from adults, that still doesnt change the fact that a very unique and important part of Shadows story was removed.

Movie Maria is there more or less on her own ackord. She has a future ahead of her. Her and Shadows relationship isn’t built on mutual depenency but rather as a circumstantional one. Which still works, dont get me wrong, but it does make the story just a tad more generic. Shadow is no longer angry for losing such a big part of his identity, he’s just doing the former part now. Grieving the most important person in his life, as well as his home.

This hardly ruins the story ofc, its just a different take on the story that, in all fairness, fits the vibe of the movie better. Bringing in terminal illness and conversations around that would definetly be a tough one. And because of them making Maria more of a character now it still works. She’s already an innocent and tragic character. She’s not ment to be innocence and tragedy incarnate like she is in the games. You get the point.

All in all. Almost perfect adaption of Maria in my opinion. I love movie Maria and it was such a clever way to go with the character. She and Shadow will always have a special place in my heart.

Actually, I don't think it's militarism at all. I think it's something slightly more insidious actually.

The Rainer/Blackwall story line never sat well with me. First, it's unclear whether Thom actually knew innocent civilians (women and children) were in the carriage when he gave the orders. There's some dialogues that suggest he's aware, some that he is not.

Either way, his MEN were aware. They could have not gone through with it. "I was just following orders" has not been an acceptable excuse for war crimes in the real world since World War II. I know this is Dragon Age and supposedly it doesn't follow our modern morals, except that... it does. In lots of other ways.

And further, if Blackwall DIDN'T know, then he couldn't have stopped his soldiers. His soldiers should have been smart enough to just... not kill unarmed women and children. Right?

But regardless, we end up with this LEADER - a warrior - being a good guy and being forgiven for having his men kill a few innocents, even though it was arguably NOT for the greater good. And he redeems himself by absolving them of the actual murders and taking ALL the punishment himself.

Meanwhile, Solas... who was a soldier... in a war... is ordered by his leader (Mythal) to create a dagger that can be used to severe a being from its mind/dreams, and the dagger is used... and the narrative places the blame 100% on the soldier. Not on Mythal who gave the orders. Not on the Evanuris who started the war. It is SOLAS' fault. He should have said no. Because "I was just following orders" isn't an excuse. Or at least, not an excuse for Solas.

In the same way, after 10 years of begging for peaceful solutions, Anders using an explosion to stop the Final Solution to the Mage Problem (literally named after the Nazi plan for the Holocaust, if you're not aware), is framed as a bad thing. It's HIS fault that this happened. He shouldn't have killed those innocent people (which were retconned to be a lot more than implied in the game originally).

And what to Anders and Solas have in common? They are mages.

Essentially, David Gaider created an in world religion that persecuted mages. It treated them as power hungry and dangerous. Something to always be leashed and never trusted or given agency.

And the narrative, time and time again reinforces this idea. Mage following orders = bad and beyond redemption. Mage fighting back = bad and beyond redemption. Warrior Ordering Men to Kill Innocents = good if he tries hard enough.

I don't want to blame this all on Epler, but it does feel like to some extent that Epler bought into the prejudices of the Chantry, and continued to reinforce the ideas the mages will always be power hungry (the entire story of the Evanuris just reinforces this, really).

It's also not lost on me that Solas is an elf, and that Epler's character Bellara struggles quite loudly and verbally with the "original sin" of the Evanuris and constantly tries to take responsibility for their evil. As if elves are always just evil. Nothing that Rook or the other companions do to try to ease her distress really works. And it's almost as if her anxiety is subtly trying to excuse the poor treatment of elves. "Well, maybe they deserve it because the Evanuris are evil."

Any way, IDK how much of this is intentional or the devs just not thinking things through fully, but there is definitely an anti-mage and anti-elf bias that you can see in the comparison of these storylines and the treatment of these characters.

genuinely curious how the writers and larger dragon age audience would treat thom rainier if instead of being appropriately* repentant and putting himself in prison he blew up a major orlesian government building to instigate a chevalier rebellion or tried to have someone do some necromantic blood magic ritual involving uncertain danger and possible sacrifices to bring the innocent children he ordered killed back to life

(Post fall) Ancient builder x Illager toxic old man yaoi when

WIP, was planning on doing a ref for every human race but a mutual of mine practically begged me to post these two on their own so you’re probably gonna see this image again. Colors are not yet where I want them to be so I’ll definitely go over it a few more times.

I’d like to take this moment to point out that the way you summon allays in legends, where you play as an ancient builder, is pretty similar to the way evokers summon vexes.

Design / AU rant below cut, as always.

This one’s a little worse written than usual, I’m just rambling.

I practically have an infinite amount of Ancient builder designs because I draw them differently with every piece depending on how I’m feeling, but for this design I got more genuinely speculative and turned on my pattern recognition.

Steve and Alex are canonically 6’2, both of them, and all undead mobs seem to be the same height, if not taller than they are, so I made them average around 6’5. To add to that, all undead builder mobs either don’t have eyes or have solid coloured glowing ones, so I went with the latter.

Minecraft isn’t a stranger to making lifeforms appearances change drastically depending on circumstance, this render is of an Ancient builder post wither attack, around ancient city time, which meant I could adopt the idea the devs mentioned about villagers/illagers, of human skin turning desaturated if they stay out of the sun for long enough, which, if the single generation of Illagers already show signs of I bet the god knows how many decade long underground escapades of the builders probably hit ‘em hard with that trait.

I also for the longest time for some reason forgot cosmetics were very likely a thing, so they’ve got some protection spells and luck enchantments tattooed, both of them do. Doesn’t work very well, as one can probably guess. But they’re superstitious so it felt in character enough.

For the post wither attack Ancient builders I also tend to think of them as more frail, not only because they had no access to their former overworld food supplies and had to rely on the little stuff that did grow in complete lack of sunlight underground, which definitely wasn’t a lot, but also because beyond the military force that did seem to remain from the nether war (ancient city structure name: Barracks, disk 5 marching.) they definitely were no longer strong enough to properly defend themselves against the wither or the warden/mourner on their own accord.

And because they were cowards and skedaddled when the overworld was in danger AND got beat up by the piglin despite being the main kingdom in power which I just find really funny. So think tall and boney but hiding it under a lot of clothing layers to still appear strong. Definitely can’t put on armor anymore though, that back would snap like a twig.

When it comes to the robes I used some of my older armor template designs for reference, made them black and blue to fit the most well known ancient builder sprite as well as vaguely match the one of the evoker. Because, oh well, you caught me, I do believe the cargo cult theory. Got my own interpretation but I’ll leave it at that till the next bestiary entry.

I generally want the villagers to look more varied, and human, while the builders, both neo and ancient, look more unsettling, as if they’re clearly a person, but something just looks, or moves wrong. They’re too symmetrical. Too far removed from what once was flawed but sincerely their own.

A lot of villager beauty standards are inspired by medieval-renaissance era Europe, like for an example having a larger visible forehead and appearing more boxy in shape being seen as more visually appealing, I think despite the illagers trying to subvert that they do still live in a society, so having grown accustomed to it as children they probably still at-least somehow adhere to the beauty standards they know, whether consciously or not.

They perform similar experiments on themselves as the builders, they’re just ever so slightly worse at it, as they haven’t been doing it for as long, so it leaves marks like scarring or visible stitching, though I believe they wear these with pride.

There’s gonna be a dedicated post about them at some point, as I said so I don’t know how much of my design I want to pick apart for now, but I’ll just leave it at that for now.

It dawns on you that it's been too long since Suguru's last reply. "Are you falling asleep on me?"

Suguru hums in response to your query, clearly enjoying the sensation of your carding your fingers through his hair. The morning is still young; the light of early dawn peeking through the blinds as if to say 'good morning, it's time to wake up!' "I'm awake," he murmurs against your chest, eyes closed and in no rush to greet the day. "I'm just painting a representation of your words in my mind."

Your smile is crooked as you take in his words, "oh really now." Another affirmative hum is his reply and you see the beginnings of a smile forming on his face. "And what kind of painting did you conjure up then?"

You halt your ministrations and Suguru opens one eye comically offended. Who said you could stop, his eyes tell you and you laugh silently before you continue the motion like you never stopped to begin with.

"Something about the girls having a more balanced breakfast," Suguru tells you proper, pleased to feel your touch again. "Don't worry, love, they'll have more than enough protein. I was painting it all clearly. Rice, eggs, fish, maybe some miso on the side…"

"I suppose you were listening," you relent, hugging Suguru closer. He returns the gesture, inhaling your scent. "You spoil them so much that I almost thought you forgot what a balanced breakfast for children was supposed to look like." Sugary cereals and bottle after bottle of syrup are near constants in your household. You giggle at the ticklish sensation of kisses being peppered across your collar bone. "You can't distract me, Suguru."

Brown eyes look at you with unbridled, playful affection, "this isn't a distraction, it's bargaining." It wouldn't be fair to suddenly present the twins with a boring breakfast, he says with dramatic regality. It's too cruel, too unjust. "And I already promised to make them pancakes this morning; you'll make me into a liar if I can't keep it."

Your lips twitch, "a liar, you say?" For someone so serious in your teen years, Suguru has an impeccable flair for theatrics. He'd have made a great actor in stage plays. Unfortunately, your lover is always quick to disagree. Denial, the first step to Acceptance. "That sounds terrible."

"Yes, it would truly be a travesty," Suguru nods, too grave and solemn for the conversation at hand. "And if it takes kissing the most beautiful and marvelous and most fantastical person in the world over and over again to allow me to fulfill that promise, I'll do anything. Anything!"

"Alright, my dear husband. You win," you snort and a warm set of lips are peck yours once, twice, before relenting. "But tomorrow I'm in charge of breakfast. No sugary cereals and no pancakes. They're going to have a healthy and delicious breakfast that isn't going to give them cavities and there won't be any bribes or bargaining."

With you swayed, Suguru gently collapses back into the mattress. Maybe the girls aren't the only ones used to being spoiled. Looking at him be sluggish yet adorable is more than enough to make you want to let him make the girls pancakes for the rest of the month. Maybe even waffles for dinner. "There can be something sweet with it, right?"

"There will be fresh fruits," you recall the blueberries, strawberries and grapes you purchased the other day. Expensive as they were, they better be sweeter than Nanako and Mimiko themselves. "And I can be kind enough to allow a reasonable amount of whipped cream. Remember the emphasis on reasonable."

Maybe there can be small allowance for a slightly more than reasonable amount. You really are one big hypocrite, you softly spurn yourself. The desire to spoil the twins comes too easy. How couldn't you when you knew the sort of lives they'd been living until recently? It was almost like something out of movie ー Suguru coming back to Jujutsu Tech on a dark and stormy night with a haggard appearance and two badly bruised kids with him.

It's one thing to be a sorcerer from a family of non-sorcerers in the big city; the boonies are different entities altogether. There's nothing to protect if there's no knowledge of it to begin with. Another flaw in the secret society sorcerers are forced to embrace; another flaw the nearly broke Suguru entirely.

("I wanted to kill them," Suguru admitted, clutching your shirt, sunken into the cold floor. "I wanted to kill all of them. For a moment I thought we weren't even the same species. This isn't how I used to think," he laughed coldly. "What's wrong with me?"

Suguru's come a long way since then. A long, long way. One day, Satoru and Suguru will pave a way for a generation that are strong enough to handle any mission. You hope you'll pave one where the children can stay far from the battlefield. Perhaps there will be a day your goals converge.)

Now that you're graduates, Nanako and Mimiko are in your personal care. It isn't always easy; the girls have their bad days. You aren't sure they'll be ready to go to a school filled with non-sorcerers after the lives they've led thus far. Still you find silver linings where they're to be found. It's a relief they get along with Tsumiki, though. Step by step, the two of them will get to a point where they can see everyone the way they do Megumi's older sister.

One day, you kiss Suguru's forehead much like one blows the seeds of a dandelion to make a wish. Things can't be fixed overnight but one day. One day is good.

And this ask gives me a great reason to discuss it. I recently had to do, "racial awareness" training for my job. And listening to the instructor actually pissed me off.

Because it's the weasel words they use. They've swapped Equality and Equity as meanings. Because they are now trying to say Equality means everyone gets the same thing, which is never how I've seen it used. I've only ever seen Equity used that way to mean everyone ends up at the same place. In other words, "Forced Equal".

I've always known Equality to mean everyone has a fair shot. Not, "everyone gets the same thing". Where as Equity I've always known to mean forced to be equal. Equity in this meaning, often means taking away from others to force the equal, or to give more to others. Which is funny because they didn't really change the definition they just lied about the pretense. Because the instructor explicitly stated it's about, "being fair" and, "Not everyone starts in the same place and therefore have different needs". Which SOUNDS good on paper. Up until you realize that if you have a limited amount of food, and you give an obese people more than everyone else because they are, "still hungry" you'll likely not have enough for everyone.

And in doing this you're also saying other people DESERVE more choices or alternative choices. So we're going to give A-J vegetables because they are skinny and don't need much food, but this big guy, he's getting chicken because he "needs" it. This is how the racial training class went. In a nut shell. And when you use the ACLU as a source when they can't even be honest about left wing violence, I'm not going to take you seriously. Most people very much don't actually believe that racism is fake. They just believe the idea that the "Supply" side isn't as pervasive as these types think. Because racism and activism are too sides of a coin. If there aren't enough racists, the activists have nothing to fight.

It also pisses me off the idea that this instructor tried to tell us that white people can't suffer racism in the same way blacks can because blacks suffer "systemic" oppression because some people I'm the system are racist. Had I not been under the weather, and under orders from my boss to, "not go there", I'd have come forward with, "so you're telling me no one in the system can be racist towards whites at all" just to watch her squirm. Because the idea that a system is racist if SOME of the people in it are racist, also makes the metric the case if you agree people can be racist against white people, that they, under your own sentiment, can suffer from systemic racism. IE: Oppression.

Working circles around these people is easy if you can think critically at all. But she also stood in front of the class and said that Trump was trying to repeal civil rights law.......... And he's not. DEI is something he's trying to dismantle because it's a practice of discrimination. And she thinks it's definition is the much softer one. Hell, she thinks the BLM org are still good people rather than scam artists who've done nothing at all for black communities. While making themselves rich in the process.

It's also funny because she says stats show these classes work. Which is funny....... Because I've seen people express that studies show the opposite. That these classes actually make things worse and have opposite is the intended affect.

SO this theory has formulated with two key pieces of supporting evidence: his cane and his gauntlets / claws.

Obvi we don’t ever see him really using the cane for support or mobility, but I think that’s really easy to interpret as intentional! Second, the gauntlets: this is in part bc of how he’s portrayed in fanart, even when he’s dressed down or naked he almost always has them on. This + looking at them more closely led me to liken them to ring splints, v commonly worn by ppl with hEDS to stabilize all the little joints in their fingers! (The gold form-fitting sleeves can also be interpreted as compression sleeves for a similar purpose, if you want to look at them that way)

Just like with the cane, it’s v easy to present their presence as vanity or even self defense wrt the claws, so no one questions why he has them, but they can still serve the vital purpose of preserving his hands, which are vitally important for the finicky and precise work of creating his inventions.

To reference his parents again, they referred to him with words like whiny, needy, demanding. “Needy” has always stuck out to me. All children are needy, literally all they know how to do when they’re young is need, and we know that Gortash was sold off when he was still relatively young! So what would set him apart from other children in this regard?

The Flymms definitely wouldn’t be the first parents to not be prepared for the reality of having a disabled child, and blame the child for their disability.

Hmm, I think the more interesting thing is where he compared Silco to abusive fathers like the fathers of Beethoven and Mozart. maybe one aspect is that I think if you look at the s1 planning boards they clearly thought of Silco initially picking Powder up with the intention to use her. And only growing to care for her over time and always interlaced with the idea of pushing her and maybe they personally don't see that as very "real" fatherly? Like maybe the implication is "depends on what your definition of fatherly/daughterly is")

Personally, I'm a big believer that all media is a collaborative effort (on tv that is like writers and directors and actors). And the only thing that "counts" is what makes it in screen. So whatever his headcanon is doesn't really matter if it doesn't make in on screen.

I think one can see traces of that "like the father of a genius musician" in the scene where Silco pushes her to finish the bomb (and with the visit to the water being the gentler version of encouraging her talents and breaking her inventor version of writer's block). Imo it also rings kind of true with some of the season 2 interviews about Jinx not hearing Silco's voice and having to decide who she is in her own (again something that made it in on screen in the scenes where Jinx us in his empty office and upset that he isn't speaking to her).

I dunno, there's an interesting dynamic there with the whole father of a musician versus father of an inventor. But again Christian's headcanons and references don't matter more than what makes it on screen. And on screen we at worst saw Silco talk slightly harshly to Jinx in that regard but also sensitively. So a far cry from  "There were few days when [Ludwig] was not beaten in order to compel him to set himself at the piano", related one childhood friend of Ludwig.[9] A court councilor reported that Johann occasionally locked Ludwig in a cellar.

So I don't think we need to take it literally and I don't think he even means it literally. Speaking more of the kind of vibe that would make a father pressure his kid like that and creating a weaker version of that (personally I think it's already a charitable/colored interpretation that the fathers of Mozart and Beethoven were motivated by seeing their children's genius as opposed to hoping their kids would make them money)

So much if the "bad father" discourse has been about

- did Silco genuinely believe he was doing the right thing (did he genuinely think Vi was going to hurt Vi or did he lie in desperation because he was afraid of losing or did he lie in a calculated manner because he didn't want to lose his "asset")

- how true/necessary are his lessons (I think there they actually show some sympathy by mentioning that he lives in a harsh world. I do think it should be noted the context is the person asking the question saying "if Silco considers her a daughter why does he do such fucked up things to her")

- how much is him acting according to Jinx's genuine interest versus his own. And again I think the traces were there in s1 already made explicit in s2) that this area is at least murky. That she shares some of his views but not to the same extent

I think that despite all complaints makes the Isha storyline interesting. Because it says that if Jinx was given a choice she'd rather have a friend than be out there fighting (suggesting that Silco either ignored or did not see her wishes). But that friend also gets killed (harsh world = more Silco's domain, just because you want something doesn't mean it's a good thing or even achievable).

Btw when it comes to insensitive Christian statements, I think there more potential in what he says about not blood related families and that he almost sounds like he has some sympathy for the Beethoven fathers or at least asking yourself if happiness is more important than greatness.

I don't understand how he doesn't know if Silco sees her as his daughter when he was one of the people who wrote the episode where Silco calls Jinx his daughter while alone at Vander's statue with no reason to lie. Perhaps he isn't taking a stance to prevent further controversy considering what happened last time he said something was canon. But at least he's got the genuine care Silco has for Jinx and the way he empathizes with and feels he can trust her down.
