If I had to guess, alot of the more recent season finales have been delving into or addressing in someway the hold ups/flaws in each of the characters and showing genuine moments of their humanity and that started happening in season 11:

The gang all together and facing death and each character having their hubris and general sins addressed. (This is also the first kinda major shift in group dynamic when Mac actually addresses his gayness as an actual element of his character and not the general homoerotic nature that follows all the characters for comedic effect. Ie Jesus everything about Dennis or charlie and franks shit ect ect.)

Okay hear me out but gang tends the bar and Dennis' double life are actually immediately relevant to each other in that we learn for the first time with genuine confirmation that Dennis has actual feelings and attachments to people. (At least in a way that Dennis seems to genuinely admit to) Also: Mac is openly gay now-> essentially confesses his love to Dennis with the rpg-> Dennis has a child and says that he's emotionally involved with Mac (this is played as a joke but like logistically this has been true for years and is one of the dynamic pillars in the show) Dennis seems to have a genuine moment of parental love and decides to try parenthood/(possibly run away from his feelings for Mac)

Dennis comes back says literally nothing about why or what happened and has seemingly "lost" all of the progression he had been making with his deteriorating mental state and his "big feelings". He is also seemingly actively rejecting Mac the homoromantic tension is gone in their relationship. Mac still dealing with his catholic guilt and likely dissatisfied with being gay in the face of Dennis rejection (like bro he comes out, confesses his love to a guy he's basically been dating and in love with for decades and the dude ghosts him for a year comes back and then both rejects him and their decades long friendship) It's pride month and Mac is soul searching and I find it really important to note that Dennis is literally not there. Like not *in* the episode. The reason they give is because he's claustrophobic and has some kinda breakdown we don't see and doesn't want to drive the float. (it's also very possible this is the first time we are verbally told that Dennis is "straight" as well. Despite several instances of Dennis definitely not being straight within the show it's possible that Dennis is also actually in the closet.) Anyway Mac does his dance and comes out to his dad but this ultimately has nothing to do with Mac or Dennis as this is ACTUALLY a Frank episode and is the first step in the "frank becomes gang dad arc" he's been going through.

((Uhh I actually realized I hadn't finished season 14 here because Ive been watching with roomates I'll get back to you on this one lol))

Fuck god damn Charlie fuck. Also this is more of the frank arc I was talking about frank actually has to define his relationship with Charlie as parental when faced with Charlie's actual father and also possibly has to address he was Dennis father and Dennis also sorta addresses frank is his dad (thanking him for making him a sociopath lol) Mac is still dissatisfied and I think Dennis is starting to mentally slip again and possibly distancing himself from the group again. But Ultimately this is addressing Charlie's trauma.

I will expect a Dee season finale soon.

I think Dennis will have another breakdown and we'll actually find out what happened in Dakota.

I think either Dennis and Mac will get closure In their relationship in that episode and either move on as a couple for the finale season or left ambiguous for the next season.

Finale season I think Dennis and Mac will get together or tragically break up entirely I also think the finale finale of the show will involve the gang loosing paddy's for good and them as a group having to actually face what they mean to each other outside of that safe space. Either horribly tragic and the gang dissolves or they find that their love for each other was what made paddy's pub safe all along and it's bittersweet semi hopeful.

There needs to be a joke regardless of circumstances where Dennis and Mac hug for an uncomfortably and inappropriately long period of time.

last night i watched an hour long chronological order macdennis scene pack thing that people use for edits (because of brainrot reasons) and the shift in dennis’s attitude toward mac in the later seasons was way more sudden and drastic than i thought??? I got used to assuming it was just bad writing that sidelined dennis’s character motivations to make room for mac’s coming out arc and the fandom just filled in all the gaps to cope BUT NOW i feel like there’s no way that wasn’t intentional. you could argue they’re not planning on going in that direction anymore but between seasons 11-14 they were absolutely setting up something between them. i feel insane
