Poem, title: Exposé
sometimes,
in your weak and limp agony, you want to
claw at other people's fine clothes in impotent desperation,
to beg,
"please, please tell me where i'm wrong.
"please, be specific, be personal, be cruel, please take off your mask and don't leave me the only one naked,
"please, cry, break down, be weak, i promise i'll try to be a safe shoulder,
"please, please for the love of god,
"please tell me when i hurt you, when i'm being dismissive, when i'm ignorant, when my argument is weak,
"please notice, please speculate on why i do the things i do,
"please give me hints, please, please, please, i want nothing more,
"nothing more than to improve, to be as good-"
and you feel like all you're doing is getting your mud all over their silks.
(if you were any braver, you would rip those stupid shimmering guises to shreds.)

Um, what the actual fuck is this shit? Certainly not the first time I've received creepy offers of someone wanting to be my sugar daddy, but it is a first for it happening on tumblr. To anyone who might possibly wonder why I'm not into/don't write certain kinks, here's is a pretty good example of why. It is too early in the morning for my gag reflex to be triggered by anything that isn't attached to a Josh Hartnett character ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wanted to write a post about my feelings regarding the transition from being a system that allowed ourselves to be very visible as multiple to one that rebounded to a place where we, for all intents and purposes, function almost like a singlet with internal support.  Even to friends we met through the system community here or singlets who we told, we just don't talk about it anymore. Even to my lovely partner of nearly 6 years, we just don’t outwardly express ourselves as a system much, despite still obviously having DID and being multiple.  It is something that just happened over time with healing and integration, where we were left with less social fronters and ended up here.
Part of that is because it is easier, for all of us, to be this way at this point.  Because I handle the outside world, there’s no pressure on anyone internally to have to be social or feel the need to pretend to be me with those who don’t know we’re a system.  But then there are no social outlets for anyone else because we’ve got into a corner where it feels weird doing more than what’s helpful.  No one really has ties to the outside world anymore, and isn’t really sure how to make them in a way that fits in with how we have been living.
There’s freedom in openly interacting with the outside world as a system so that Scully, Maria, or even Will can have their own friends and connections.  But there then feels like there’s pressure to be more available, to switch more, to uproot the life we’ve set up more.  Part of it I think goes back to missing people from our past that we were close to, who have just naturally disappeared with time as life changes and social media becomes less prominent.  We’re MUCH happier without feeling constantly tied to sysblr where there does feel like a bit of pressure to perform.  We’re in a much more stable, comfortable place in our life living this way.  And there was a lot of trauma and hurt that came from almost forcing ourselves to be very visibly and openly a system in the way that it felt like the online community expects.  But there are still times that we miss feeling free to be more openly us.
It’s a complex relationship between what is currently healthy and safe for us overall as a system while navigating a balance

"The Jedi Code is like an itch. They cannot help it."
The best thing about The Acolyte is how the Jedi were murdered. Indara dies because her compassion is used against her, when Mae threatens an innocent bystander, Indara focuses on saving them, instead of watching Mae. Torbin dies because his heart breaks for whatever happened with Mae in the past, 16 years ago. She can't touch him until she weaponizes his heart against him. Sure, you can kill Jedi with overwhelming numbers against them, but if you don't have numbers, how do you get under a Jedi's defense? Use their compassion, use their care for others, use their connections to wanting to help others against them. These Jedi died because they cared.

Make Puerto Rico a state already, don't like having second class Americans, and that's how I'd describe it when they're out there paying taxes, contributing to the good of the country, but they don't even get representation via things like a senator
Like I'm sat here thinking about it and... do Puerto Ricans living in Puerto Rico even get to vote for president? Cause... that's never listed in the electoral college vote count, so I'm gonna guess no
Seem to remember hearing somewhere something about "no taxation without representation", sounded pretty good I thought
Make Puerto Rico a state, make them a state. Every year I get more and more pissed off as I think about how fellow Americans are treated like this. I'm extremely pro Puerto Rico, they're clearly a part of the union... you either make them a state or make them their own country, you don't keep people trapped in this limbo state where they've got less rights than I do
#people bring up how the electoral college is there to avoid tyranny of the masses; and fair enough#(though I think it's a real broken system; and I'm not real keen on tyranny of the swing states either)#(like maybe if the electoral college was at least less winner takes all so people who don't vote like their state stood a chance)#(...I'm not gonna invent a substitution when no one's gonna implement it; but this system ain't great either)#but to the point; we don't want tyranny of the masses; right?#well here we are with Puerto Ricans not getting any say what so ever; unless I'm much mistaken... which everything I find says no#and listen... I'll be blunt; population isn't a number that ever means that much to me or sticks with me#I can't actually tell you the population of anywhere in the world cause... I tend to more just get a feel of how many people are there#like a lot; a little... like I know Nigeria has one of the highest populations; but I couldn't tell you the number#my point being; I don't know how many Puerto Ricans their are living in Puerto Rico; but it seems like a meaningful amount#it feels like they... gotta have more than like Wyoming; so it feels a little unfair if Wyoming gets a say and they don't; you know?#like no one would saying Wyoming doesn't deserve to have senators and representation in the house; and a vote for president#so why don't... I want to say millions of Americans; again; not great with the numbers side; but I feel like Puerto Rico probably has 2+ mi#I want Puerto Rican statehood; you search (and tumblr cooperates) you'll see I've been saying it for some time#also say I think DC should be a state too; and that Hawaii should be given a choice if they want to stay or not#like I like having em in the US; but they should have the right to choose#but those two I know are more radical ideas and less likely to be implemented#but Puerto Rican statehood... hands down it's a disgrace they aren't already and it goes against fundamental principles of the US#it's not like I personally know any Puerto Ricans (unless one of you is... I just don't know many people in general)#(like I don't think I know anyone from Maine either for example... lots of Arizonans though; but mostly people from my state)#anyway; I've got zero personal stake in this; it's just about what's right#Puerto Ricans are Americans; and they deserve a seat at the table... in this case a literal one; two senate seats and however many house#(I couldn't tell you what the breakdown is of population to house seats; and I'm not sure if we'd make new ones or shift from like Cali)#I don't see this happening in the next 4 years whoever wins (though... maybe have a feeling who would be more for it)#but I'll still keep saying it... I'll say it till they're given statehood

music commentary #5 and #6: autobiography thief and a mockery of science
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing the commentary for these two songs together since they have a few things in common!
so these two songs... what they have in common is that they're pretty sample-heavy, their samples come from the same (general) source, they were both made last night, and i created them out of the desire to get more experience with using samples
i don't use samples this heavily very much at all because incorporating samples at all in my music is kind of difficult... the fastest way for me to do it is to use audacity and manually line up the samples with the beat. i could put the individual samples into individual files so i could use them in ultrabox or lmms (and sync them to the beat easier) but that feels like too much work honestly... i should probably start being more organized about them at some point though, because it'd make it easier to re-use samples if i wanted to
making these songs made me realize that i sample minecraft youtubers A Lot. Like a lot of the time when I use a sample it comes from a minecraft youtuber. i guess it makes sense because that's the form of media i've consumed the most consistently over my life, and as such i probably feel more of a "connection" to those samples than i do with others?
some other songs that i've used minecraft youtuber samples in (oldest to newest) are creative world shaper, power beyond comprehension, and caretaker of the sun. honorable mention to the sky tower because the title of that song is a reference to something from a minecraft series
oh also for both of these songs I made the music first and Then created the art and story to go along with it, i think i've mentioned that i usually make music this way before, but i want to mention it again. the way i chose to manipulate the samples in the songs was without any real direction, i just applied a story to them afterwards
for autobiography thief... i think how the title relates to the samples is pretty interesting. the samples come from a bdoubleo100 video where he's talking about a mission that he gets in minecraft to build someone's face on his base. taking the phrase "build their face on your base" out of the context of minecraft... i think that sounds like something someone who steals identities might think or say. and that's how i got to the title "autobiography thief"
i don't have a lot of meaning applied to the other samples in the song but the "no, that's back down" and "it's upstairs" ones give me a mental image of the thief breaking into someone's house and trying to locate the autobiography. "oh heavens to betsy almighty" just makes me think of what they'd say upon running away/being caught
i also think the voice in the song is the actual voice of the thief (guy on the left in the song art), i think it fits him
this isn't related to the song but i really like the design of the thief so i drew him more after finishing the song
Tumblr media
for a mockery of science... all of the samples have some sort of meaning attached to them, vs autobiography thief where they were kind of random
before i talk about that though i wanna talk about the basic story of the song a little bit. it's about two scientists mocking/laughing at a test subject or experiment, who is technically the same species as them, just a little different
MOST of the samples are meant to be what the scientists are saying, but a couple of them like "i'll start over here" and "gotta make sure, i gotta make sure i—" fit the experiment's POV more, i think. i made the experiment and the scientists the same species because despite this POV change, the sampled voice does not change (hopefully what i just said there makes sense, it's a little complicated to explain i feel)
i could go into depth about what i think each of the samples means but it'd make this post very long and my hand is already aching from typing so much (don't worry i'm giving it a break now)
there's the sample talking about ice because the experiment is some kind of ice creature, anyway
What I don't like: for both of these songs, a mockery of science especially, i think the volume level of the samples needs to be tweaked. some of them are too loud or too quiet. i also wish the "dummy" sample in a mockery of science was clearer/easier to understand, because it's supposed to be a more impactful one than the others
What I like: i'm proud of both of these songs! i really like the art of autobiography thief especially. i think it was interesting to try to make songs that were much more sample-heavy than usual, and i think they were both successful for the most part. if they were anything at all, they were good experience

🚨🚨CONGRESS SECRETLY TRYING TO SNEAK IN EARN IT ACT COPYCAT INTO MUST PASS SPENDING BILL (PLEASE READ EXTREMELY IMPORTANT)
July 20, 2023 Congress is right now determining what is included in a must pass spending bill the NDAA. Often congress will sneakily add as amendments their bills that they can't pass in a normal setting.
If you remember, I made a previous post about EARN IT being reintroduced here.
The EARN IT Act and it's copycats are bipartisan bills that will greatly censor if not completely eliminate encryption and anything sexual and LGBTQ+ from the internet, globally. Anything the far-right doesn't like will be completely gone. The best way to stop them is to use https://www.badinternetbills.com/ to call your senators.
Following it's initial introduction earlier this year was massive opposition from human rights, LGBT, tech, political groups, and grassroots groups. Bc of this, the senators decided to remake the bill but give it a new name, so they can still pass Earn It without actually passing Earn It. Those bills are the Stop CSAM Act (yes really, they actually named it that), and the Cooper-Davis act.
The entire point of these bills is to mass surveil and censor everyone and I don't know why more people or senators speak out against it. There is a direct timeline from when the Attorney General Barr (under Trump) said he wanted to do this to it's initial introduction in 2019, and how the senators explicitly knew they couldn't actually say that so they lied and said it was about "stopping CSAM" or "stopping drugs" for Cooper-Davis Act.
These bills essentially do the following:
they gut encryption, the one thing actually protects you from having your data seen by anyone. Do you want republicans to know you're trans? that someone had an abortion? that they spoke out against the govt? to see your private photos you have uploaded to the cloud? to see what porn you watch? if youre a journalist, or an abuse survivor, any hacker or abuser can see your stuff and track you.
they gut parts of Section 230, the one thing that allows anyone to post online and birthed social media. Previous gutting into 230 gave us the tumblr nsfw ban and killed that site.
they create an unelected commission with some already established govt body (DOJ, FTC, etc) that will include law enforcement and people from NCOSE or other Christian conservative groups who will decide what is and isn't lawful to say. no citizen can vote who's on this commission, and the president gets to pick. it's like the supreme court, but for the internet.
lead to mass censorship and surveillance because of the above
We have until the end of the month to stop this, but this can be added literally any moment until then. It's literally code red. If this is added it goes into effect immediately. The BEST way to stop this is to drive calls and emails to the senate. https://www.badinternetbills.com/ connects you directly to your members of congress & gives you a call script.
It is ESSENTIAL to call the Senate leaders who can stop this. Here's a more precise call script you can use: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1huD5Ldd1lPTECYTEb9Gg2ZzrqW6Y9tryHT-MdjOl8kY/edit
All these people expressed concern over Earn It, so we need to press them hard to not allow it's copycats Cooper-Davis or Stop CSAM into the NDAA. This is URGENT and needs all hands on deck. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) (202) 224-6542 Maria Cantwell (D-WA) (202) 224-3441 Jon Ossof (D-GA) (202)-224-3521 Alex Padilla (D-CA) (202) 224-3553 Cory Booker (D-NJ) (202) 224-3224 Mike Lee (R-UT) (202) 224-5444
Please please please spread this message and blow up their phones.
TLDR; The Senate is trying to quietly push the Earn It Act's copycat bills into the must pass NDAA, which will lead to mass censorship and surveillance online by gutting Section 230 which is the entire reason you can even be on tumblr and why the internet exists, killing encryption which put everyone's lives in danger, and appointing far-right people to a supreme court-esque commission that the president has direct control over. They could be added in ANY DAY and we need to push hard to stop it before it gets to that point. CALL YOUR SENATORS **NOW** BY USING https://www.badinternetbills.com/ AND CALL THE SENATE LEADERSHIP AND SPREAD THE WORD!!!!

You Aren't Supposed to Win
There's a species of post on Tumblr that's not uncommon: explainers about neurotypical social interactions for the benefit of the neurodivergent. Others, in an adjacent genre, are vent-posts or bewildered people expressing exasperation and impatience with neurotypical social rituals. And these are usually fine as far as they go, but there's a sort of deficit or hole in them that I think tends to go un-addressed.
Basically, a lot of these explainers are very reasonably helping readers to navigate a system for some desired outcome (getting a job, finding a date, or other such things), but with the understanding that a failure to get the desired outcome is a failure of the system. And that's... only kind of true.
Neurotypical social interactions can be a very complex mix of collaborative and competitive enterprises. The ratio between those things can shift on a dime, it can be really hard to figure out where on the spectrum you are at any given moment, and this is the system working as intended. Or at least, as the players in the game intend, which isn't always quite the same thing.
I don't want to overstate this too much; standard social interactions aren't a fight to the death or anything. Typical examples are more like a preponderance of cooperation, but with some jockeying for a larger share of the rewards that follow from a shared project. Or, perhaps, attempts to spend the least effort in a group project, while receiving a full share of the reward.
The thing about this is, the presence of an antagonistic element within these interactions means that perfect legibility is opposed to most participants' goals for the interaction. There is a degree of confusion and uncertainty that is quite deliberate and instrumentally useful. If a particular partnership is going to pivot to 'pvp mode', it is absolutely in each participants' interest to be the first one to defect, and to mask that defection for as long as possible; perfect transparency prevents them from being able to do so, and they can and will interpret requests for perfect transparency as being hostile acts.
At the same time, admitting any of this is also a loss of strategic advantage during adversarial interactions, so it's one of the hardest things to get people to admit. It's even hard for people to notice that they're doing it, because evolution favors mentalities that keep as much of this as possible subconscious; it's easier to defect without warning if you never consciously think of yourself as defecting at all. So explicit discussions of this are quite rare. (There is, however, an entire genre of party games designed to bring them to the fore and let people show off their capacity for adversarial play among shifting alliances and uncertainty, so it's more 'open secret' than 'forbidden lore'.)
The upshot of all of this is, the desire for an explicit, legible system of social interactions that can be exploited for reliable outcomes- can often be a desire for power over others, in a way that I don't think the proponents fully realize. The fantasy of people just doing what you want is a powerful one for everybody, neurodivergent and neurotypical alike. And this isn't an unreasonable fantasy! it's really not fun to be surrounded by people pursuing their own interests at the expense of yours!
But it's important to realize that a lot of the hard work of aligning those values and making a system of interactions 'purely collaborative', such that everybody will be doing their best to help you succeed regardless of skill level or quirks of neurotype, is a really hard problem that nobody has yet been able to solve. And until we get there, a system in which you reliably get everything you want, and which you navigate with perfect confidence, is one that subordinates the people around you.
