2023 🎉🎉🎉
Ok new year and I thought since this blog is basically an archive of my fandom art, I'd also archive some "milestone" art and archive my reflection for the last year. Basically, I love art and I've always wanted to one day publish my own original comic/graphic novel and I've had this dream art school that I've always wanted to go to and then senior year rolled around and... I didnt submit my portfolio. Partially due to financial reasons, but mostly because I just hated my art (like most artist) and so I decided to take a "gap year" to take online courses and "fix" my art, but then I just didnt have enough money to even finish the courses so i just really gave up yk. I got very demoralized about school in general and thought art would just be a hobby and I should consider getting a "real job" as many of my family members would say, it didnt help that all of my friends were leaving for college and I was stuck at home. And so in my loneliness, I then created this blog because I still wanted someway to do art and be creative and share stupid ideas about my favorite characters and honestly I really really really enjoyed making fandom art. And after getting out of my slump and getting much encouragement from my friends/dad and lots of nights staying up with my anxiety as company, I decided I really should just do it and submit the portfolio and if I get in I get in and I should not be afraid to get loans and not let my financial problems get in the way of my happiness and wants. So I talked to the admission counselor and finally submitted my Illustration (Entertainment Arts Track) portfolio to ✨Art Center: College of Design✨ and a couple months later I actually got accepted woooo
So I'm sharing my accepted ACCD portfolio to by no means flex my art, I mean the anatomy and perspective still needs a lot of work and my traditional art in general isnt the cleanest, but when talking to the admission counselor, she definitely did see my faults but she also pointed out how even if my technical work isn't as polished, thats exactly what school is for: to learn and get better! And to be surrounded by likeminded people who also have a passion for art (and make those industry connections!) And something more eye opening I learned from her was that art isnt suppose to be perfect and "realistic," especially in the entertainment arts industry, what matters more is telling the story and making compelling characters. While knowing every muscle of the human anatomy is useful, as long as you get the message and purpose across, its good! (I mean look at the origins of one punch man).
Corny message aside, for as much as I was stressed during the beginning of this year, I ended up really enjoying it after all. I'm still improving my art and I still have to worry about my financial issues and college, but overall I spent these last couple days with family/friends and doing personal art projects and I'm relatively happy with my art and my OCs. My SumRec comic will probably be postponed by like a week maybe cause I've been busy with family and friends and obviously I haven't been posting a lot of my fandom art due to RL stuff, but when I actually have alone time to work on it and im satisfied, then it will be posted !! So for anyone who read through this post, I hope you maybe get some enjoyment from my art portfolio and also enjoyed last year and I hope this new year will be even better !! (And if your an artist, keep going and creating !!) 🎉
Bonus: Not part of my portfolio, but during my junior year of high school, I wanted to actually complete an animation instead of a bunch of animatics, so I did! Its incredibly rushed and my old art is cringe, but it was my first completed animation of some very old OCs and their potential intro sequence if they had a TV showヽ(✿゚▽゚)ノ:
#new years#accd#art center college of design#art center#accepted art portfolio#animation#thank you guys btw for the art support#you guys actually make tumblr quite comfy#have a good year!!

hi im clockworkSlick, a weird artist guy. i make cool shit and talk about stuff i like, so thats what you'll find here. links to my other stuff below, under the cut is some more info about specific things im doing right now (i edit this post occasionally to keep up with the times, if i stop assume im dead.)
TWT - INSTA - WEBCOMIC - COMMISIONS - PORTFOLIO - ART TAG
BIO
im a 21 yr old college student obsessed with digital art, tv shows, and ive been writing a webcomic called providence to channel all of it. outside of providence i like to try and merge geometric design ideas with more traditionally inspired drawing practices (traditional as in using ink on paper, not as in praying to an ancient god to smite my enemies and fertilize my fields.) in practice this usually just comes off as me obsessing over a character or something, which is because that's exactly what it is.
Providence
this is what i spend most of my time on. if you want to read a scifi fantasy comic about college students doing a healthy mix of standing around talking and fighting monsters, then please give it a read. its inspired by everything ive seen, sitcoms like community, seinfeld, iasip, 30 rock, and also more serious media like the x files, parts of rvb, and plenty of influences that ive absorbed into my brain over time.
the format is based on ms paint adventures, known for homestuck and problem slueth, but isnt that close in terms of stuff like art style and pretending to be a video game. its mostly a normal comic, just presented in the format that i was obsessed with for all of middle school, some of high school, and a worryingly high amount of right now.
making a webcomic is one of the hardest, least rewarding things i have ever done, and yet i just cannot stop. writing bad jokes, coming up with story lines and character arcs, articulating my problems in a way that makes sense, its like crack.
you can read it at either of the links below:

Is it smart to get into real estate? More so of the investing side? I'm a black woman starting from square one with no help.I really want to go for it but I'm so damn nervous.I only have $10,000 to my name and kind of want to risk it all. What would you suggest?
Good morning! Im not an expert but I would definitely suggest you speak w one. Consultations are usually free.
tbqh depending on where you are and property taxes 10k isnt a lot. Since I live in Southern California and I make about 50k annually, I would try a foreclosure auction fixer upper before traditional real estate. But, that's just me.
Ive been taught that investments should only be 20% at a time of your overall portfolio. A financial strategist or partnering w a professional who believes in your goals and plans would be a great start to investing.
Proud you, Anon! Let us know how it goes!

see i get what ur saying avout the ai art thing and tbh a lot of people are being cringe about it. but imo its not like the difference btwn digital/traditional art bc its not really about 'suffering' etc? its really more about stealing like the program isnt doing any work st ALL, all its doing is squishing pre-existing art together. its less like digital art and more like a collage of other people's art, so do get while people are testy about it winning awards and the like. bc its not actually creatingin ANY way
see i totally understand where you’re coming from here (and i’m not even really talking about the award thing, it reminded me of it but that’s not entirely what i have in mind while i’m talking about this. that’s a unique situation of its own and to be frank i don’t think a screenshot of a headline provides enough context to make judgement on it)
HOWEVER it’s also like. is that not how human beings ALSO learn to draw? i don’t mean in a ‘copying someone’s art style’ way, but like, the best way to actually learn how to do art and develop a ‘style’ that works for you is by…. looking at examples, thinking about the aspects you like and don’t like, and figuring out how to create that way yourself. like, conscious or not, everyone takes inspiration from SOMETHING.
granted, ai stuff isn’t my personal forte, i don’t know everything about how these things work, but i don’t think it’s as simple as cutting and pasting direct aspects from different pictures - from what i understand, it studies images it pulls from a database thay match the given prompt, takes notes of similarities between all results, and makes a new image based entirely on what it’s ‘learned’ from the data it’s looked at. if i generated ‘a pickle wearing a cowboy hat’, it’d look at pictures of pickles, and pictures of cowboy hats, and then would have to derive from those images what a pickle is supposed to look like, and what a cowboy hat is supposed to look like, and then go from there to blindly assemble the pieces together until the results look like a pickle wearing a cowboy hat. it doesn’t trawl the internet for drawings that someone else has ALREADY MADE of pickles wearing hats and copy their art directly or purposefully - but if there was an artist out there whose portfolio was almost entirely paintings of pickles wearing cowboy hats, the volume of art they’ve produced that matches the prompt would probably skew the ai’s results towards pictures that resemble their art. it’s the same reason all ai image generators have disclaimers about how there’s inherent bias due to the way image searching works.
again i’m not disagreeing with you here - i’m kinda neutral-positive about ai art as a whole. i think it’s fascinating that we’ve managed to create programs that are capable of generating images that are so complex, and that can look ‘real’ so to speak. but i’m also aware that it can be used dishonestly just like any other artistic tool. my complaint mostly comes from the people who are saying things to the effect of “these programs are allowing people who AREN’T ARTISTS to make pictures that LOOK like ‘real art’ and that’s BAD because it means artists aren’t ‘special’ anymore, and that our talents and skills are worthless now!!!!!!!!” which is just. baffling? i can’t imagine genuinely thinking that being an artist is this special elite members only club and that you have to have this much ‘talent’ (i hate the word talent btw. that’s a rant for another time tho) to ride, otherwise you can get fucked. (this isn’t hyperbole btw this is like almost word for word a complaint i saw on twitter. i know finding bad takes on twitter is like going swimming and getting mad that you got wet, but i was kinda shocked by how many people took that shit at face value and agreed)
i just think ultimately waffling about what is and isn’t ‘real art’ is useless. i’m not digging on you, because you do make a valid point, but i also think your use of the word ‘collage’ is really interesting because collage is also an art form, and one that i personally really find compelling to boot! being able to take something and cut it up and rearrange the pieces into something wholly new doesn’t sound like ‘not art’ to me.
overall i think it’s just a much more nuanced situation than people really want to see it as. there’s no real ‘this is good!’ or ‘this is bad!’ because it’s again just a tool and whether or nit its useful entirely depends on the intent of the person using it rather than being an inherent property of the tool itself, i think. that’s my take, anyway

Lol you’re the toxic one. Their last few art pieces have just been snuggling, wow so evil. Also I can’t take anyone seriously who thinks KEITH is a twink. Like the one character who being an athletically gifted was the main arc of his character you’re tripping. Just say you would rather have a self-insert and someone to protect onto than you actually appreciate Keith’s character. Byeeeeee
Not liking something doesn’t mean it’s toxic. I personally think it’s homophobic to even engage in top/bottom discourse but if you insist on doing it, tp keith isnt toxic, it’s just not your preference, you really need to learn the difference.
im assuming ur the same person lol but uh....1 im like. a mlm? but no yeah im also homophobic tho so ur right abt that. 2........ya uhhh he’s a gifted Pilot and im not disputing that he’s good at like? fighting???? but he’s not this big buff beefy man sdkgfskghsdk im also talking abt their entire art portfolio, not just their most recent pieces lol
also ive literally written top keith AGKFGNJSFKGSK i dont think it’s toxic at all i just think the way that artist does it is very steeped in traditional heteronormative attitudes/behaviors and in being that both lance and keith’s personalities are changed at a fundamental lvl bc they’re not...a traditional heteronormative couple....
but idk if you’ve even read any of my opinions fully or bothered to look at my characterization of either of them before making claims (such as me thinking tp keith is....toxic) so tbh this answer is already more of an effort than you deserve 😪
#laughing so hard at being called homophobic i-#i can make headcanons abt who likes to get fucked vs who likes to fuck#bc believe it or not. real people feel that way#but i dont think this anon has ever had sex in their life so lol#asks🌟

Small Dogs Have a Bigger Bite
It’s the start of 2017, and everybody is looking for that foolproof system to help them outperform the market in the new year. While we all know there isn’t a foolproof system for investing, many analysts play to this idea by offering predictions and suggesting that one sector or another will outperform the rest. I don’t prefer to take that approach, but I realize that we all look for a simple and effective investment strategy for the new year. Well, if you want to position your portfolio today for the full year, there’s one proven strategy that is easy and profitable that is worth focusing on: the Dogs of the Dow. The Dogs of the Dow is a simple approach to investing that you implement at the beginning of each year. You simply identify the stocks within the Dow Jones Industrial Average that have the highest yield right before the end of the year, then you buy those stocks at the start of the new year and hold them until the end. By following this easy strategy, you would have outperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the past seven years. Many people believe this streak may be coming to its end with interest rates set to rise, but I’m willing to give the streak at least another year. Let me explain… Don’t Bet on a Yield Comeback With expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise its benchmark interest rates several times this year, investors are cautious on high-yielding companies and other rate-sensitive stocks. The expectation is that when interest rates rise, the appeal of buying dividend-paying stocks falls since you can easily go to your bank and take out a certificate of deposit – those offered a yield of 3% or more in the golden days. Or you can buy a U.S. Treasury note yielding 4% or 5%. But the truth is those days won’t be coming back in 2017 and likely won’t return until at least the 2020s, given the sensitive nature of the interest-rate topic. For instance, rising interest rates have the power to curb business investments and increase payments on government debt, thus slowing our economy and crippling our government. A gradual rise in rates would likely be welcomed by almost anyone at this point, but that puts us at about 1.25% on the Federal Reserve’s target rate toward the end of next year – assuming the Fed goes through with three quarter-point hikes this year… which I doubt it will. After all, we were supposed to see three rate hikes in 2016 according to the Fed at the end of 2015, and we all know how that turned out. Even if the Fed manages to push through three rate hikes this year, a 1.25% rate is a far cry from the 5% rates that supported high-yield Treasury and bank notes prior to 2008. In other words, don’t expect these traditional yield sources to come back anytime soon – you are going to have to rely on unique sources of income. The Dogs of the Dow may be one of your answers, but there’s also a variation on this strategy that’s even more promising. Let’s Get Small Sure, the Dogs of the Dow strategy has outperformed the Dow in seven of the past 10 years. But, by making a slight tweak to the strategy, you could have averaged an annual gain of more than 20% since 1973. What’s more, this modification to the strategy is up 10.1% since 2000, compared to a 7.9% gain for the regular Dogs of the Dow and a 6.3% gain for the Dow during the same time frame. It’s known as the Small Dogs of the Dow. Instead of buying the 10 largest dividend-yielding stocks, you take that same list but buy only those five stocks that have the lowest stock price. For example, you wouldn’t buy IBM stock since it’s priced at more than $130 per share, but you would buy Cisco Systems for under $30. To outperform the Dow this year, this is your easiest bet… assuming the seven-year win streak holds true.

How did you get to where you are now in life? Like, how did you wind up with your job, meet these people, And do you have an autobiography I can read cause I want to know what I’ve gotta do to get a job like yours
i dont have an autobiography because my life isnt all that exciting, honestly! to get a job like mine though? i made a reference to it in a post about drawing advice a bit ago, but it boiled down simply to getting my work out there. i hadn’t done too much professional illustration, just some local stuff and self-published comics, but i was posting most of my stuff here and on twitter. when the Paradox Space site launched, i was enamored with the idea of homestuck comics in a more traditional format. i spent an afternoon sketching out a story and posting the roughs on tumblr since i wasnt sure if i was going to finish it or not. the editor at the time happened to see the post and recommended i send over a portfolio. sometimes i was asked to submit scripts, so i wrote a lot, and if they needed a script or a page on a quick turnaround, i did my best to help out. eventually it went from ‘hey we need a script’ to ‘hey we need some art cleanup for hiveswap’ to ‘hey we need animation for collide’ to ‘hey work on hiveswap fulltime’. it doesnt just “happen”, you just put your work out there, be easy to work with and highly dependable, and people will remember it. there’ll be jobs you get passed over for (good lord i was passed over and rejected from jobs and publishers for years) but don’t get discouraged and keep at it and eventually, hopefully, you will find what youre looking for.

hey, you said you major in graphic design...? do you like it? what do you do in it? also did you submit a portfolio to get it, and do you tips? THANKS :D
hi! i actually haven’t started any GD classes yet! i go to MassArt and our freshman year is called foundation year (which is like exploratory at voc-tech schools like i also went to) where we take basic art classes to get every1 on the same page/for ppl who dont know what they want yet. for a majority of art programs you will need to submit a portfolio of your work, there’ll likely be a required number of traditional drawings and then art pertaining to the field you want to go into. it differs for every school/program.
even though i havent start classes yet for GD, i can already say i love it. the department is super helpful and nice. i know a few ppl who have graduated from it and they all loved it. some tips from what i’ve experienced:
ok this got super long so i put it under a read more.
art school is way harder than u think. i went in from a media-related shop in high school with a lot of prior knowledge to programs and techniques and basic art skills. in some classes i was advanced and flew thru the work. in other classes i struggled and didnt know jack shit. i worked in front of a computer in adobe programs for 4 years i dont know how to mix plaster. i failed 1 class and dropped another. i failed form study which is pretty much just 3d sculptures and stuff. there’s gonna be ppl that are way better than you at stuff, and you cant get discouraged by it. especially in gd, where u use a little bit of everything. just keep trying to make u the best u can be.
art stuff is fucking expensive. my tip for this is save up and scour for coupons. blick is simultaneously the best and worst place in the world for artists bc: it has everything (like 98% of the time) u would ever need but ur not walking out without spending at least $80. they have sales and stuff constantly and they’re rewards program is bomb but art supplies are just generaly fucking expensive. the class i dropped was a painting elective 1st semester, the prof told us we weren’t allowed to buy the store brand paint we had to get a specific brand and we needed like 20 colors. the paints were like $15 each. thats $300 for paints that i will only use for that specific class and probably never touch. it literally wasnt worth it.(i hate painting) my orientation group leader literally told us to just steal pens and pencils where there arent cameras…shit’s rough
graphic design is hella complicated, it isnt just fuckin around in photoshop. some upperclassmen said that we might not even be allowed to use a computer our first year in the major. (that got me lil nervous ngl). there’s a lot of traditional art/different medias involved like drawing, painting (ugh), and 3d work (uGH), and photography. again, i havent even started and GD classes so i cant really say what its like bc its different for everyone and the field is so big that there’s tons of different things you can hone in on. from what it looks like to me is there’s a little bit of everything.
x-acto knives are ur best friends. this is dead serious you literally need them for e v e r y t h i n g. and then u get like, addicted to using them for trivial things like opening a bag of chips or cutting strings off clothes
this may not have been the most organized thing in the world but i hope it helped a bit. feel free to ask me about GD and what im doing once classes start again/after the 1st semester. or even just ask me about art school in general! i literally fucking love it and i love talking about it so humor me. i move back in sept 3 and im super excited :)

Is it okay if i ask about the talent test you had to take? It would really help me get insight! :^)
TALENT TEST OMG!!!! Its so funny because I just came home from school! I took the talent test for visual communications. I didnt pass the UPCAT so my talent test was different from UPCAT passers. And I’ll admit, its a lot more work. I had to submit a portfolio with 20 of my best works, take an interview, and lastly take the actual talent test.
For your portfolio, its good to include process sketches as well. It gives them a glimpse of how you work as an artist which can help a lot. Show how diverse you are as an artist!! Show works with different art styles and mediums. Give a good mix of traditional, digital, professional work (if any), and any other art forms you’re into.
For the interview, the questions are always different so the best thing is for you to stay composed and confident so you can answer the prof’s questions with ease.
The actual talent determination test is different every year but you can expect to have to draw something in a realistic style as well as creating a composition of your own.
PRO TIPS : PRACTICE DRAWING EVERY DAY UNTIL THE TALENT TEST it doesnt have to be a big big drawing every day but one simple realism study can really go a long way. It’ll help you become more confident for the test and you’ll be warmed up for the big day.
TRY NOT TO USE WATER COLORS the papers they give during the test do not absorb water well at all ( i would know i tried). If its your best medium though, it doesnt hurt to try as long as you’re confident.
UP ISNT JUST LOOKING FOR TECHNICAL SKILL, THEYRE ALSO LOOKING FOR ORIGINALITY try to show your unique style in your compositions. what’s the point of a good drawing if it doesnt have any heart and soul in it?
Well those are all the tips I can give. I really really really hope with all my heart that things go well for you. always believe in your abilities and be consistent with your practice!! come off anon if ever you wanna know more about what I did and how I prepared. Honestly, UP Fine Arts is making my heart so full and happy. I’ve only been here for a week and I’m already pretty in love with everything. Good luck hunbun~
