i was inspired by many creators talking about this but here are some of my formal criticisms of l&ds because no matter how much i love this game and find it near-perfect, there are still flaws!

zayne's english voice lines. while it didn't bother me on the level that it did most in the past, i do think infold could do a great service of rerecording the interaction lines. they finally found the right footing for his tone and how to capture his character with the later affinity content and the recent events / main story chapter. please! i beg! (i'm already aware the localization isn't top tier but i feel this is a somewhat doable fix, though tedious.)

the timing of banners. in this economy? insane. also i'm gonna be real, i'm unemployed right now (it was an unfortunate circumstance) and my means of finding a proper job is honestly difficult with my full load of classes. it's hard being a f2p player especially when the rewards for grinding isn't as hefty as i'd like it to be. i think it's decent for what it is right now, but it could be better. also... they need to space this shit out. LMAO. i've played my fair share of gacha and otome games, yes, but with how fast-paced the updates for this game is, infold could at least offer some more in-game benefits or rewards. (ex. giving out free 10 pulls... if you're going to do a quad banner, i wouldn't mind 40 free pulls as i could just grind the rest during the duration of that event.)

increasing rewards for daily tasks/challenges/etc. because what am i gonna do with 30-50 gens per card upgrade, and so on and so forth. i also would like a new update to the abyssal chaos deductions. maybe upgrade the rewards cap since so many of us (i assume) have already maxed it out. unfortunately as a girlie who fucking loves hack and slash games, abyssal chaos is my favorite game mode and it doesn't stress me out. (a bitch is STRUGGLING with her protocore levels right now.)

infold's stance on lgbtq+ fan content. i already wrote a post here somewhat related to this. while i'm talking fans specifically, infold's stance is what i feel significantly influences the homophobic behavior. yes, we know it's an otome game. yes, we know what otome means. but i just call it what it is and i think the love interests are not confined to strict heterosexuality and the norms of it.

the characterization and treatment of the LIs. i'll be honest one of the huge turn offs for me for rafayel is the way the mc's responses are programmed towards him. while i don't mind banter in the way that it's done for zayne/sylus, i don't like how snarky it is on the player's end for rafayel. also, i know i'm a pervert on the main but i do think infold could chill a bit on the hypersexualization in certain instances (sylus). because there's no way you're gonna give me 50% and then not fulfill the rest. this is the worst kind of foreplay.

i've seen a few instances of people from cn explaining that there's setbacks due to cultural norms, etc. that would prevent something like a card with fully explicit sex being made. that's why there's only sexually implicit content. (if anyone could provide context on this or confirm, do add!) ((yes, i've seen the car sex card from mqlc... need that with zayne actually.))

every day i'm thankful for the misty invasions event, but i still have hope for more. i guess what i'm trying to say is that infold is already on a good run with making this game as to appeal to a more mature audience, yet... THERE COULD BE MORE. idk.

Sure! It was mostly my own idiocy that led to it, haha.

I was studying abroad on a music program in college, and our practice rooms were located on the second floor above a winery. The owners of the winery lived in the back half of the building, which was in a kind of L-shape. It also backed up against a hill that was overgrown with trees and shrubs, impossible to navigate. Our program director gave us a key to unlock the iron gate at the front and another to unlock the ground floor door which led directly into a stairwell to the second floor. Now, I should note that up to this point, I had not made the mistake of leaving the communal key behind.

I recently visited my sister in Europe and we spent some time in Heidelberg, so I actually have pictures of the building. The door we entered was in the back corner, beneath the carport overhang.

It was a seven minute bike ride from our hostel to the music building, and when I arrived, the iron gate that usually closed off the little courtyard and driveway where we locked our bikes was open. Further, a small group of elementary students would also sometimes use the building for classes, so when I checked the door, it was unlocked. The point being, I did not at any point check my pockets to see if I had the keys on me because I did not need them.

I spent a few hours practicing piano, even heard the cleaning lady come and go. But I liked practicing in the music building most when it was empty and quiet. Then I noticed it was getting dark out. We had some sort of event going on that night, and I was already running late since I’d lost track of time. Figured it was time to go.

I opened the door at the top of the stairs, walked down the steps, and tried to open the ground floor door. Locked.

Strange. In America, you would normally still be able to open a locked door from inside the building. No problem, though, right? Just get the key out and unlock it. Except my pockets were empty. I checked them and my music bag twice for good measure. It’s at this point that I realize I’ve left them behind.

Now, maybe I can call someone. I got the ability to make international calls shortly after arriving in Germany, so I should be able to call one of my program mates and explain the whole embarrassing situation to them.

No cell service. I try every inch of the building. Even standing on the counter in the bathroom and holding my phone out the window. I can’t get a single call or text to go through. I’m in a complete dead zone.

At this point I sit on the bathroom floor and cry. I’m gonna be stuck here until morning. I missed dinner and I’m already hungry. I’m at the whims of the next person to enter this building. Will anyone miss me? Surely they won’t assume that I just decided to ditch the event. Will they even notice I’m gone? I’m the only one of us staying in a room alone, after all.

Another important note about my time abroad, however. There were only seven of us total, a very small program, and when I first arrived in Frankfurt, an hour outside of Heidelberg—the town where I’d be staying—I was the only one coming in on a different plane since I didn’t live in California. Through various mishaps, I got left behind at the airport (a story for another time perhaps). The experience of being a young twenty-year-old, alone in a foreign country where I didn’t speak the language, stuck navigating on my own dime and by my own wits to an unfamiliar city, I think, understandably, left me distraught. My RA, however—another one of the program students—did not agree. He wanted to send me home before the program even began. Didn’t believe I had what it took to study abroad. That I lacked emotional fortitude.

The thought of proving him right gave me the courage to dust myself off and try to solve this problem on my own.

So first thing, I check my options. Are there any fire escapes? Other doors I might’ve missed? None that I can see. There is a high wall separating the building from the back of the adjoining property, probably 10-15 feet tall. It passes under the bathroom window, but that window is too high up and its opening too small for me to fit through. I try going up to the third floor, as if going up would actually help, but the door to the third floor is locked anyways.

Next, I check the windows in each practice room. There are six rooms in total, five that line the right side of the building and look down into the courtyard, and one large room at the end of the hall where we have our conducting classes, with windows that look down onto the street. These windows are in a German style where they open either upwards or inwards like doors, no screens on them, giving me a large enough opening to pass through.

Now the classroom’s windows that overlook the street only have a sheer drop down the side of the building. I could try reaching the drain pipe and shimmying down it, but there’s no guarantee it would hold my weight or that I could reach it from the corner window. Same deal with the windows over the awning, it doesn’t look strong enough to support my weight. I may have only weighed 105 lbs in college, but that was still more than I imagined these non-load-bearing structures were used to.

The first two practice rooms have a view over the carport cover these days, but ten years ago that wasn’t there.

Finally, I come to the very back corner window in the very first practice room. From here, I can see the living quarters of the winery owners. They have a little balcony with a wrought iron-iron railing around it. I could probably make that jump, right?

Granted, it takes me a bit to psych myself up. What if they see me and think I’m some kind of burglar? The curtains are drawn, so hopefully they won’t even notice. It’s probably only a five-foot gap in total, but it feels so much further when you’re standing on a window ledge.

From where I stood, I didn’t know there was a staircase down to the courtyard that led from the balcony, so I thought I’d have to run down the conveyor belt they used for the wine.

I start by tossing my music bag onto the balcony. When it lands safely without scattering my sheet music everywhere, I breathe a sigh of relief. The next part requires me to make the jump, however.

I hold the sides of the window for support, then launch myself at an angle, catching the railing of the balcony and pulling myself over to safety. I sure did wish I’d noticed the massive spiderweb covering the entire window before I’d jumped straight through it, though.

From there, I discovered the staircase and ended up in the courtyard. I did almost immediately go back up the stairs and round the building to the back, hoping to ford through the foliage up the hill rather than jump the iron fence like some sort of criminal, in view of a well-trafficked street. I puttered around the 15-foot wall for awhile, wondering if I could escape through the backs of the other buildings. But finally, I gave in and jumped the fence, trying to time it for when the fewest possible people lined the street (not hard since it was late at night by this point).

The rest of the saga involves walking twenty minutes to the hostel to retrieve the keys, then walking another twenty back to the practice building so I could a) go upstairs and close the window I’d left open and b) retrieve my bike, which in no way would have made it over the fence if I’d tried throwing it.

I had to explain to the RA why I’d missed the event, and he was none too pleased. I double- checked that the key was on me every time after that, scared I’d get reprimanded for my thoughtlessness if it ever happened again.

So, not so much a tale of daring as a comedy of errors. It was unpleasant at the time to go through, but makes for a great story now at least!

Every month, our employer issues a "system news" document which we're supposed to read from start to finish. That's how we discovered an odd item: a mysterious training scheduled to take place at our branch. No title, no topic, no named presenter. A total brick wall.

Our supervisors could tell us very little other than that attendance was mandatory. The lack of further information made them uneasy. It's one thing to withhold confidential details from the rank-and-file. But from management? Unheard-of.

To thicken the plot, something extraordinary was taking place within the branch calendar. To make room for the Unknown Seminar, every program, meeting, and class booked for that date had been hastily canceled. Events that had been months in the making, speaker's fees already processed, budgets already spent... poof. All for a single training, and not even a full-day one at that.

And ultimately, that was what gave the game away.

According to the plan approved by the commission, our branch would open for a few hours, then close to the public and remain closed through the afternoon, and then open again for the last few hours of the business day. Now, while we might have early closings, late openings, or even full-day/full-system closures for (planned) staff symposiums or (unplanned) weather events, the only reason to close ONE branch during the MIDDLE of the day is for an emergency evacuation.

Holy shit, I thought. I bet it’s an active shooter simulation.

Here I need to stop and say this. I think that our administrative team means well. But they work within a literal security enclosure, and that definitely influences how we customer service employees view their safety as opposed to ours. We're out on the floor, fully accessible to a public which often presents us with disruptive, illicit, abusive, combative, menacing, and occasionally violent behavior. At every crisis-situation training we take, we are told "Run, hide or fight". The implicit message is "You're on your own." We try our best to keep it together and provide excellent service. But our workplace is filled with employees struggling with massive anxiety, trauma, job burnout, and chronic stress-induced illness. Do we really need a live drill on top of that, complete with local cops tricked out in riot gear wandering around our workplace?

All of this is precisely what I told my department head. I asked her to please, PLEASE advocate on our behalf and impress it upon administration that such a drill would NOT be in their staff's best interest-- in fact, it would be a cruel breach of trust.

It already was. Upper management began to circulate a new version of the plan which I learned from a good friend who happens to also be a supervisor. One day, she openly agreed with my suspicions. The next day, she flagged me down and told me the following. I need you to know that a county agency that I am not allowed to name has requested our facility for their own training. During that time, all staff will stay in the building and work at their desks. They will not be participating in this training in any way. That is all I can say about it. But while saying all this (in a weirdly stilted manner, as if reading off an index card), she stared at me pointedly as if to say, You and I know this is bullshit, but play along, okay?

As it turns out, it WAS bullshit, and EVERYONE knew it. Eventually HR sent out a sheepish email admitting that the county agency booked to use the facilities was in fact the SWAT Team, and they would be enacting live exercises that might be potentially "triggering". As a result, ALL staff would be sent home-- but if you thought you could handle it, SWAT could use some civilian volunteers to take part in the drills...

So there it is. We called shenanigans. Our supervisors did the right thing and took our (and their) concerns up the ladder. Upper management reconsidered and modified the plan. But I do not feel better. Knowing that they were willing to lie - and to direct others to lie - to keep a lid on their real purpose is flat-out disturbing.

The benefit and curse of being an AuDHDer is that we are obsessive sleuths who fixate on details, clues, inconsistencies, holes in the narrative, plot points out of place. We are hellbent on uncovering the truth even when it only attracts odd “hmphs” and rolled eyes. Yes, I nailed it. Go me. But now my alarm bells are on a hair trigger. My sense of trust is shaky. My perseverative brain has been in fourth gear for weeks. I'm not sleeping, and I can't focus for shit; I feel like my entire quota of willpower has been used up on this wild hunt. “And third, the Royal Minister of Finance will begin conducting an annual review of all crown dispensations to members of the royal family. For generations, the monarchy has financially supported disparate branches of the royal family. As we continue to modernize the monarchy, it is important that these branches build independent means of supporting family members without assistance or stipend from the crown, and we shall work closely with them toward that goal.

“Some of these programs, of course, will require parliamentary support and approval. For example, some restrictions on outside investments must be lifted for more distant members of the royal family to allow them to develop alternative revenue streams that can replace current crown stipends. I will work closely with my government to ensure that these approvals are obtained as we move forward into a new and more modern era of monarchy in Corwyn.

“Today, we begin a new chapter of our nation’s story. One that will ensure that, while Corwyn continues to grow and prosper, we also can bring with us all of the traditions and values that have served us so well for so long.
