Bit of a long one, I won't apoligise

I was going to do Come On, Come Over for this but I couldn't resist doing this piece instead because it is probably my favourite off this whole, amazing album.

It starts with a very cool conjunct rising quaver line on the strings, which ends abruptly. The rhythm section takes over with some fun percussion and, obviously, a very funky bassline from Jaco. This section continues with a very disjunct and rhythmically interesting piano solo and an impressive conga? bongo? solo, punctuated by lines on the strings, which is occasionally joined by Jaco. The piano solos again, this time with less silences.

The second section is in half time, transitioned to with a unison line and crescendo, which drops down to just strings, minimal percussion, and features some great bass playing (read: cool bends). The string part feels reminiscent of Willy Wonka to me, and has some lovely uses of chromaticism and chord building throughout the parts. The texture of this part is really cool.

What could be called a third section continues the pianists very talented soloing, adds Jaco's too, but with the strings on the background playing a stripped down version of what was being played before. There's some really interesting rhythmic moments with the percussion and very fun melodic moments when the bass, piano, and strings all together form some weird chords. There is a moment of unison, the strings swell again and the piano drops out, leading to...

The first section again!! The original tempo is back, funky bassline is back, the piano is back, that cool string line is back... but wait...

It's in half time again!! There's another unison part to lead into a more chilled piano/bass solo. No strings this time, but a more solid drum beat/percussion than the last time we were in half time. Jaco's soloing as always is on point, including very well placed and weird bends, harmonics and a incredible use of rhythm to build and realise tension with the pianist. (we are now a little over half way, the length of this piece is why I wasn't going to do it originally)

And just like that we're in the original tempo again, with what is essentially the head. After the string line the drums do something weird but cool, it feels like two triplets or maybe a quintuplet?? I can't tell.

Another, different unison line leads us back into half time, where the strings are a part once again and Jaco plays a harmonic for the sake of it. It's the Willy Wonka part again (yessssssss). The drummer continues to play some more crazy interesting -tuplets (or something, honestly it just sounds like they're doing whatever they want, and doing it very well).

Aaaaaaand back to the head!!! No strings though, just a very intense piano solo. I love how this piece gets more and more frantic everytime it returns to the head, it really shows the contrast between the slow and fast parts. The piano continues to solo, Jaco and the percussionists continue to play whatever they want pretty fast as the quaver line on the violin is played over and over, slowly crescendoing until it is the only part. It plays a once more and then ends abruptly, ending as it started.

I love this piece because of the incredible musicianship on display, and how well-composed it is on Jaco's part. The contrast between the tempos and the instruments is really interesting choice, and executed very well. Jaco is well-beloved for a reason!

Couldn’t stop thinking about Dust being able to pass as Classic. So I had an idea where Dust replaces Classic in a timeline and steals(?) his partner.

He gets conflicted when he starts actually caring about you… But denial is an easy road to take when there’s seemingly no consequences to your actions.

The reveal i guess. Most normal reaction to learning your partners been replaced for god knows how long and you have no clue where he is.

Now that I think about it I might’ve gotten some inspiration from that one chapter of IJAG by @htsan (iykyk) only a lil bit tho

I learned a while ago via a Merlin fanfic (and a couple google search results afterwards) that medieval peasants would break a coin in half and exchange it with their betrothed instead of exchanging rings for marriage.

Merlin and Arthur are constantly referred to as two sides of the same coin.

What kind of sound are Theo's... noises... intended to be? Snorts? Mouth sounds? Choking sounds? Stuffy nose sounds? I feel like I imagine them as a different thing every time I read them lol

Almost all of the above, really! Nasally grunts, snorts, whines, growls, guttural noises that sound like he's clearing his throat or choking on his own air... Theo makes all manner of noises. Not on purpose.

His "noises" are unconscious vocalizations most of the time. They're akin to vocal tics. The utterances are louder, more pronounced and more frequent the more stressed he is. It takes quite a bit of effort and discomfort to suppress his noises once he feels the urge brewing (if he even catches it in time, because most of the time he isn't even fully aware that he's doing it). He does his utmost to keep them choked down, but to his embarrassment, some grunts and gags always slip through.

Also, often his laugh can sound like "a noise" since it can be more of a gargling wheeze than a proper expression of mirth. His smoking habit hasn't helped the, er, phlegminess of its sound.

A counterpoint to his common stress-sounds is his habit of making quiet humming noises when he's feeling contented and relaxed. He only does it when in exceedingly good spirits - so as you might imagine, he hasn't had much cause to hum in many years.

I know we’ve all been calling Eddie‘s moustache, his gay moustache and I’m as guilty of it as the next person, but the reality is moustache he’s gave far more symbolism than being gay - in fact the gay moustache is actually a very recent thing (the 1970’s!) and an intentional movement by the gay community to subvert cultural stereotypes.

You see the moustache has been symbolic throughout history. They have been symbols of wisdom (think long Chinese moustaches), status (in parts of rajput India, historically only those of an upper caste could wear a moustache so it was associated with being ‘higher born’) and in Europe and America it was a symbol of masculinity and male virility. Indeed many European armies required officers and often enlisted men to wear moustaches. So its association with the military is long founded (apart from the equipment only allowing moustaches, it’s also a part of the reason firefighter swear them - because it is a male dominated career and therefore the moustache is a symbol of masculinity) and predates the moustache as a symbol of queerness.

All of this combined with Eddie diaz having one at this point in time is so interesting, especially because we now know that he’s going to symbolically shave it off on screen as a part of his emotional arc.

Eddie growing a moustache in the aftermath of the Shannon/Kim of it all - the fact Eddie has clearly not dealt with loosing Shannon or his grief, and there is a lot of other emotions and things tied up in dealing with that grief is super important. Eddie growing a moustache is him expressing his masculinity - tying himself to his heteronormative relationship and his military past.

To Eddie right now - his military past is when he had Shannon - it’s when he had a ‘complete family’. He isn’t seeing the cracks in the walls or the fact the foundation is made of quicksand. He isn’t able to see that his In his mind that is when he was happy and that is why he can’t grieve. Which is why he’s grown a moustache - because he’s clinging to his masculinity and the time when he felt he had control over his life.

It is essentially Eddie breakdown 2.0 and in the same way breakdown 1.0 came with a new haircut, but ultimately allowed him to process and deal with part of his trauma, breakdown 2.0 is likely to be the same thing. This time, likely dealing with Shannon and very likely the fact that she was essentially a ‘beard’ for him (even if he wasn’t fully cognisant of it at the time - I genuinely believe he loves(d) Shannon - but I also believe she enabled him to not have to look at himself too closely and keep himself in the closet) so shaving off that moustache is symbolic of shedding his beard (because he’s a firefighter and cannot have a full beard) and embracing his true authentic self.

So Eddie’s moustache is a symbol of his queerness - but only when he shaves it off.

I cannot stop thinking about this story and the effects it probably had on him honestly. Do you think it's made him nervous in crowds, do you think it made him trust others just that bit less. How long do you think he was being attacked before he was found, the scene had cleared. "I've gotta do what I can to help, even if it kills me!",,,,

Just the concept itself! I don't know about you guys but being attacked and grabbed and trampled into unconsciousness sounds absolutely terrifying! Did he black out, still getting hit, thinking he was going to die? Knowing he couldn't defend himself as his injuries to took their toll? At their complete mercy?

there are times where he wants you laying on top of him and he’s insistent on making it happen. you can tell him 193739370272 times that you’re too heavy for him and to that… he’d just give the dumbest grin because you both know how strong he is. he loves wrapping his arms around you while also comforting you that he is alright. something about seeing you look up at him with your chubby cheeks has him head over heels, wanting to caress them but the thought embarrasses him so much that he fails to so his hand is just awkwardly in the air (we love a boyfailure)

OH I THINK HE’D LOVE LAYING HIS HEAD ON YOUR LAP/THIGHS !! they’re the perfect pillows and especially after a long day…. he’s a simple man, all he needs is to lay on your lap, have your fingers in his hair while he not so secretly gazes into your eyes behind his sunglasses. a sigh escapes his lips, what a perfect way to end the day.

and if ANYONE makes any negative comments about your looks, he’s already challenging them to a fight. as he said, “an issue that can be solved by fists is no issue at all” and he stands by that. especially about his beloved, no one is allowed to throw insults at you or at him and if they do…. well we’ll see if they can rise from the ashes.
