I’m not saying that a lot of Regulus fans are only interested in him because they picture him as a Timothee Chalamet insert and wouldn’t give half a fuck about the character if that fancast didn’t exist but… oh wait that is what I’m saying.

yeah i mean. i definitely think there's something in that lol honestly. as ive said before i never really got the interest in regulus i just couldnt care less about the guy he genuinely has zero canon character but. simultaneously i can see how the little that we do know about him makes him an interesting character and i can see why people enjoy the idea of him as a blank slate that you can superimpose nearly any traits you want on to--treating regulus as essentially an oc gives you lots of room for creation. its for these exact reasons that he is of no interest to me personally, and i really don't like the common conceptualisation of him that has emerged from popular headcanon consensus (especially when it involves stripping his character of all agency and half the things that could arguably make him compelling in order to gloss over the fact that he was a death eater) but thats a matter of opinion i suppose. thats a me problem. its just not my cup of tea.

the timothee chalamet thing irritates me for the same reason the ridiculous instagram model/influencer/celebrity fancasts for most characters irritate me, because one of the ONLY things we know about regulus is that he is 'less handsome than sirius'. like ok why not work with that. especially with a character like him where there is virtually nothing to work with. like please explain to me why you refuse to accept that im genuinely curious. why is that the aspect of his character you are so firmly refuting lol.

all in all, if the character is only likeable or interesting or a convincing love interest if you have to pretend they were actually super conventionally attractive, maybe they're just not that likeable or interesting or well-suited to the character you're trying to pair them off with. its a personal thing again i am just not interested in reading/writing about a cast of characters who are all meticulously tailored to conform to beauty standards i do not respect. the minute u try to convince me all your characters are super hot n yassified it all feels less real to me sorry i care less about them. im bored of hot characters i think all fictional characters should be made to look like normal everyday people and i think everyone should be less afraid of so-called ugliness i triple dog dare u

I'm back after a loooooooooooooooooong ass time at work so without further ado LET'S GOO!!!!

1. Fave au for buddie

My fav AU changes by the week, but a few favorites that will always pickle my cucumbers are: arranged marriage, royalty AU (especially if one is royal and one is not), ABO, shapeshifter, anything bodice-ripper style, and last but not least: although these aren't usually my preferred AUs this fandom delivers hardcore with some incredible works in the white house AU and singer au (Looking at you, whoever wrote that first one and @princessfbi you inspirational motherfuckers <3)

2. Fave fanfic trope for them

As far as tropes, ANYTHING AT ALL that is buddipher/ Buckley-Diaz family related makes me melt like butter in the summer sun, just a big ol' puddle, reaching shaky hands for the reblog button. Also anything hurt/comfort, whump, and fluff is really doing it for me. I'm also not averse to some kink (MAKE THAT A LOT OF KINK HOLY SHIT DID I FALL DOWN THAT RABBIT HOLE AS SOON AS I DISCOVERED IT ), any fic of Everyone Sees It But Them, and I think some salty folk might come after me for this but I prefer (continued under the cut to save your dash)

As I was saying, I prefer Top!Eddie and Bottom!Buck fics, it's just nice to see the physically bigger guy get taken care of every once in a while, since that's far more rare, that's my take. This isn't exclusive, mind you, but I read it in their interactions as their main dynamic. I also see it in the way they've so far interacted with their various het!partners: Eddie loves to take control and Buck loves when his partner takes control. (And those who are screaming that this is a heteronormative way of looking at buddie are simply incorrect--in every relationship, no matter the gender of the partners or how many partners, the partners choose the dynamic that works for them, always subject to change of course, and if the partners choose to switch back and forth all day every day or have a more fluid dynamic that is valid. And if they choose for one partner to be "more dominant" (in whatever form that takes) and one partner to be "more submissive" (in whatever form that takes) that is valid too. Accept no shame, take no prisoners <3)

Side note re: my fav tropes, you can spot my favs in my reblog habits: all fanart and most other fanworks get likes (I like a robust fandom with lots of loving support and open discussion, even if it isn't all my cup of tea) unless I SERIOUSLY disagree or dislike but shit that matches my tropes, butters my bread and ketchups my burgers, gets reblogs sometimes multiple reblogs--I believe in making the change I want to see in the world, and this is the tiny way I work to make it happen.

(I do make an exception though for artists (of all kinds of art--drawn, written, HCs, incorrect quotes, literally anything) who I think are sliding under the radar. Even If their works aren't 100% in my ball park I'll give a reblog so that they can be noticed by the fans who want exactly what they have to offer and otherwise might not find them)

This one is SO HARD!! Like Tim said (yes, I also can't believe I am quoting the man, he is the devil but also he knows how to run a damn good show, smh) the amount of ideas for big events in LA is running low, HOWEVER having said that, I would love if there was an episode where the 118 was visiting Hawaii or something and had to deal with a live volcano or down in Florida dealing with a hurricane--the coping mechanisms would be two-fold: dealing with the disaster at hand as well as dealing with being in unfamiliar territory and I'd love to see them make it work and save lives, etc.

@saphire-dance that's half of a point. It is canon in some comics, although mostly in animated series. Just like everything on this poll is canon (or was) to some extent, somewhere. Just like most of the polls I've seen on horrors of the fanon, or long rants, supposed-to-be-meta posts.

Like, when you read "fanon is bad, actually" takes, you gotta think hard, are they talking about offensive fanons (rooted in racism, ableism, sexism, classism, etc); or are they talking about something totally innocuous but just not their cup of tea; or are they talking about something that is canon, actually, or was at some point, but they didn't read it or accept it as canon; or are they talking about something that doesn't even exist in fandom - or not to the extent it does; or are they ignoring some of their takes that are by their nature fanon too, etc, etc.

I don't know about you guys, but it feels pretty dismissive and deprecating to the fandom as a whole. And yeah, I am biased. Comics weren't what brought me into the fandom - they weren't a thing when I was growing up where I was growing up. They cost arm and leg and were scarcely available, and only the titles I doubt I would ever have the urge to check out when I started earning my own money. It's slightly better now, although some years after I already am in DC fandom. And I still can't get books on my favorite characters in the shops in my city. So no, canon wasn't what brought me here. Fandom was.

And it was writers I followed who started writing on DC movies, actually. Then I got to the Batman - All media types tag, and from there to Batman (comics). And I already read all my favorite authors, so I went and sorted all the fics by Kudos. And like. Most of them were fanon Batfam fics. And - I just checked - they still are on top. On page 1, there are 20 fics, and all of them if not based on fanon, then contain some element of it (not necessarily the ones I mention in the poll). Most popular is, unsurprisingly, Batfam as a family. Which is true, I'm sure, to some extent, in some comics, for a certain definition of Batfam, and, most importantly, to some fans.

While knowing canon does enrich your understanding of the characters and stories, and what you yourself are able to create, fandom nonetheless is alive and as popular as it is thanks to fanon.

Don't get me wrong. DC comics would probably sell just as well without fandom (there are some successful media without fandom after all). But I am talking about fandom around it, with fics, and art, and fanvids, and incorrect quotes, and video essays, and sketches, and yeah, meta posts. All what we share among each other and enjoy.

So it really bothers me to see some kind of crusade against fanon. I want, among other things, to bring attention to the fact that there is good in fanon, that it's mostly rooted in canon, that some things of fanon can expand the canon, bring more depth to it, or make it more fun, make it make more sense, in the end.

Fanon is not bad by itself. It could be - it's just. Should be considered on a case-to-case basis, the whys of its existence, the implications it has, and is it really a problem, or is someone not liking your fav as much as you do or in the exact same way you do?

And it's a question you gotta ask yourself first and foremost.
