My biggest frustration as a Preston fan in the Fallout 4 fandom is not actually the people who make hate content (that’s annoying and awful but my block button is a pretty great balm for that); no, it’s actually the multitude of people who “would like him if…” “would have been more willing to spend time with him if…”

Call me crazy, but aside from the annoying radiant quest mechanic (which can be circumvented if you 1. Listen to Radio Freedom everyone once and a while, 2. Don’t do the quests you’re assigned bc you’ll only get a couple at a time before it stops, and 3. Make sure your settlements are in good shape. You have so much less to do if you settlements are taken care of on the front end. If they have a high enough defense and they’re under attack? THEY DEFEND THEMSELVES. Imagine that. Anyway) I actually LIKE how the game handles Preston and the MM.

Maybe it’s just me coming from Dragon Age fandom, where in the very first game, my fresh out-out-of-orientation Grey Warden is asked to take the lead by someone with more seniority because the more senior person is riddled with grief, survivor’s guilt, and insecurity that they’d be able to do a good job… sound familiar? Preston asks you to be the General because after everything he has been through, he’s not ready to fill that role. He can’t stomach the responsibility because he is afraid he’ll mess it up, that he’ll let people down.

But the thing is, he still does the General Stuff. He is the one organizing, communicating with settlements, strategizing, expanding, recruiting, giving orders, etcetera, etcetera. The sole who agrees to be the General is honestly just a figurehead for the settlers and a sounding board for Preston’s ideas. At the end of the day it is not the Sole Survivor who settlers run to, excited to thank them for all their help and make donations. It’s not the Sole Survivor who is viewed as the face of the MM. It’s Preston.

Do I wish the game came full circle and acknowledged that? Oh yeah I do, which is why I’m writing fanfic. I think that Preston deserved a personal quest where you retake Quincy from the Gunners and get revenge on Clint. I think the end of his story should be the Sole Survivor acknowledging that he’s been the General the entire time and bequeathing that title back to him now that he is recovering and ready for it. That’s really all I would have needed to feel like his story was complete.

As is, I enjoy traveling with Preston in game. He is refreshing. He has a lot of hopeful commentary about the Commonwealth, a lot of sarcasm and dry humor, and it’s great. He actually gives you less quests when he’s traveling with you as a companion, too.

His romance is lovely. It is the only one with some additional dialogue if you do the flirts, successfully initiate, then back out when he asks if you’re sure. He will come back later and say “listen, I know last time we talked, you said you weren’t ready to move on, but it’s been a while now and I still feel the same about you. I was wondering if you thought you might feel the same about me.” He also is genuinely so happy and excited to be with you. He gets a little more flirtatious. talking about MM regulations not covering your little situation (little eyebrow wiggle included). He calls you babe and tells you to be careful. It’s just as rich of a romance as literally any of the others.

I’m not sure where I’m going with this, but I’ve been seeing a number of new posts in this vein lately and I guess I wanted to add my thoughts. 😌

I love all the characters (esp the paladins) to death, but I honestly think s7 and s8 should’ve had Lotor rise from the dead, come back and kill everyone, and rule the universe by himself like the true defender he is. And in all honesty… I think the show only destroyed Lotor and (most likely) edited him out of season 8 bc the producers realized too late that Lotor was the true defender of the show (he literally killed Zarkon and him and Allura made more progress trying to save the universe in s5 and s6 than Voltron had in literally 5 seasons). So they made him “irredeemable” so that they could make the paladins the “heroes” of the show again. *sighs*

it’s been 5 years and I’m still upset. Lotor was too good for that show loll.

He’ll honestly just always be my number one favorite, I love him so much 💜💜

And yes, I still believe even after all this time that they accidentally made him the best character and the one who was always doing the most good, and when they realized too late what they’d done, they had to come up with some wild ridiculous theory to undo their mistake so Lotor wasn’t the better hero. With VLD leaving Netflix soon, I’ve been seeing some of the old fans rise up again, and this includes all their shitty takes and straight up delusions that they all seemed to mass hallucinate, so it’s been quite annoying to see, but also makes me remember how wonderful he was and FAR more of a hero than anyone in that show 😊

one thing, though, that like, the fic didn’t have room for was what exactly Bakugou was getting up to, after Reader treks back through the scrub to Grandma’s house. Because Bakugou is first and foremost a warrior, right? like the whole reason they end up meeting is because he’s like, curled away licking at his wounds and fish-cursing lmao. and i’ve always thought that if he had people out there, in the ocean, that they wouldn’t…. stay in one place. humans are everywhere! we have eyes everywhere!! even in like, the waters around their island—it’s not really theirs. and especially not with whatever is polluting it, during the fic. so i think if there were others like Bakugou out there, they’d eventually inch further and further away, hide away on some abandoned stretch of shore along a island too tiny and too important for humans to have cameras or eyes on it. Leaving Bakugou—essentially the vanguard, out on a mission!!! so what i think Reader doesn’t realise, when she’s kicking off her sandals at Grandma’s door and brushing the sand off and getting dinner ready while the TV blares out behind her is that—Bakugou doesn’t just go back to some nice charming little seacave filled with like, seaglass that reflects watercolour lights on the walls. He doesn’t get to go to sleep on a bed of seaweed when Reader’s curling into her pillow, with the window open behind her. He’s out there in the dark, keeping watch for something in the water that shouldn’t be there. Maybe there’s a handful of others with him, all of them spread out. But the point is that he is very much embroiled in something beyond us, and that those like… golden, in-between hours we have with him are stolen, on both our parts. 🌅🌾

tbh, i haven’t given much thought to a reversal situation. 🧐 have you read @/smashboxgirl26’s hidden in the sand? i was thinking about it, after you sent your ask, and did the following doodle for it but like—i think she pulls off quite well the problem that i struggle with, in regards to making Reader the mermaid? like in Smashie’s fic, Bakugou’s returned to an island where he used to holiday as a kid—but it’s different now. He’s a pro hero for starters, and the summer-hours friend he had (you) is missing—gone. writing it from Bakugou’s POV is such a clever way of getting around the question of like, how do you have a mermaid reader-insert where you don’t have to like, write convincingly about them living in the ocean. because!!! idk about the rest of u but it seems like living in the ocean 24/7 would be very scary. and dark. dark!!! anyways my point is i admire how smashie does it. 😌 so highly recommend.

Yeah, unfortunately at the moment same sex couples in Japan can’t get married, there are only partnership certificates in some prefectures that aren’t really legally recognized anywhere tho, even if it seems that topic is at least discussed, so maybe in future same sex marriages will be recognized ,hopefully.

Anyway let’s assume they somehow manage to organize a wedding.

As you said, they could opt for a celebration oversea, (I have no idea how bureaucracy works in that sense, but let’s say it’s possibile/they find a way lol)

In the final TL I guess it could be relatively easy to organize a party abroad, (they rich af lol) so I guess it would be a nice party in a beautiful location, maybe the same place where they plan to spend the honeymoon. Of course they offer the trip to their close friends/families and to some important business partner.

Koko is still somehow reckless with money but Inupi would supervise everything lol, so they organize a beautiful party, but not exaggerate nor tacky.

They could also decide to celebrate in Japan their same sex partnership, so it would be easier for everyone to partecipate and then gettin married abroad with only the legal part of the thing, having already celebrated together with friends/family/business partners in Japan

If they celebrate in Japan, I like to think Akane would be very involved in the organization (she could be a wedding planner, for what we know 😌) so of course she’d be happy to help Seishu and Hajime for their wedding 💒

They’ve been together their all life, no one, neither friends nor family was really surprised when they came out, and celebrating their live is a natural consequence of their relationship. (I have conflicting headcanons about work, especially for Koko, bc Shin would of course be happy and supportive of Seishu, but while it’s true Koko is the owner of his company so of course he can do as he pleases, he has to deal with people external to the company, that may not be so open minded. Also Japanese people tend private about their personal life, from what I understand, so idk if he’d be out to everyone, not hiding but not really talking about it, or if he’d use his privileged position to be more inclusive, starting from his own company)

In Mabu timeline, I headcanon they manage D&D together and that in time they open other shops around the city and business goes well, so even in this case they are very successful and can afford a nice “wedding”.

Of course in this TL, after their past, separation for 2 and a half years after Tenjiku, and their reunion after the fight with Kanto Manji gang, I feel like a wedding would have more “emotional value” to them. It would be a sort of recognition that, even after everything they went through, they still manage to find each other, to work together everyday to solve their problems and incomprehensions.

So yeah, in this TL, I think everyone from friends, to customers, suppliers etc would be like “oh sure, the D&D husbands” even before getting their certificate lol

I think in this TL they’d be a little more “radical” in the sense that, they love each other, they’ve been through hell before being able to talk about their feelings peacefully so, if people are cool with that, they’ll be happy to have them as customers/business partners etc, otherwise they can go elsewhere.

In this TL I think the ceremony would still be very classy, but a thousand time more emotional due to everything they went through. And the party after the ceremony would be super fun to compensate the emotional part where everyone is basically in tears 🤣

While they know in Japan what they have isn’t really recognized, they still want to celebrate with others in both TL

I don’t really consider the TL where they’re criminals because, of course, they don’t care about the law 🤣

and here I also have contrasting headcanons;

depending on the circumstances, even if it’s an open secret, they probably wouldn’t be really open about their relationship-even if everybody knows- so yeah, again, maybe they get the papers somewhere abroad;

instead if we consider the thing from another prospective, since they’re so rich and powerful, no one could create problems to them even if they’re out, so they’d probably have a huge, vey elite party, just to show everyone how powerful they are -also to have fun, but I guess in that environment people don’t really have friends, they have allies, business partners and enemies lol-

It was so slay to meet Claire @rhythmthlef Eiffel @thedevotionaltour and Sarah @ron-do-i-get-to-sing-my-way and to ofc be with my bff Alissa @taintmansion . Everyone looked so yass and slay and our group pic got on the insta story!

Also shoutout to @churippu who was so sweet and gave us the grooviest stickers in the merch line! I can’t wait to find a place for my sparkly suit Russell.

I NEVER go crazy at merch tables and have spent months not going to the movies, buying records, or eating out, so I got… 3 t-shirts, a tote bag, socks, and the pin set 💪 I love all my swag!

ofc last year in Chicago (same venue) was a bit more subdued all around energy wise bc it was still during COVID but the crowd was great this time. I wish we’d stood earlier (seated venues are like that sometimes) but the people in the front row were up dancing like crazy the whole time and other people were dancing in the aisles!

Those first few opening songs obviously went hard but I was LIVINGGGGGG during Beaver and Ron’s piano/Stevie’s drums in Nothing Is As Good As They Say It Is were fire. And Russell’s vocals in general jesus! How do u do that dude!!!

We actually chatted after and she said she was considering going to Milwaukee last minute. Girl do it!!!! And when I got to merch and said “okay let’s start with the tote bag bc i’m gonna go a little crazy” the person in the left half of the line laughed and was encouraging lol.

Alissa and I waited outside for about half an hour and I guess the guys had been whisked away long beforehand 😅 but we said hi to Evan and Max and they were super nice!

One of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Once of the most meaningful and profound. So glad I have a favorite band. So glad I have great friends to do it all with. Gee That Was Fun (real)

So since I’m done with angst here come some analysis. This is going to be completely biased because I have my favourites yk😌

So I imagine that they’d have their personal favourites. They LIKE everyone but with some there’s some deeper connection if u know what I mean.

And it would be with of course Lando and Oscar but they kinda don’t count right. So after them it’s Carlos because duh. I think Rex prefers to find ways to relax in his off time. Lots of sleep, watching holovids to learn random things doesn’t matter what it is. And of course hanging out with his hot gf Mari

Wolffe boxes in his free time and he’s fucking good at it. I think Cody writes and paints. Fives and Echo like to party and talk to people (fives more than echo but he drags his brother along). Jesse learns about every sport in the SW universe and is a really decent bet (if he actually had money lol).

They shared a breath, and then their moment was over, Buck pretending to push him back, Eddie sliding the chair back himself, just as they’d rehearsed. Buck dropped down into Eddie’s lap then, placing one hand to Eddie’s chest to steady himself. Eddie brought a hand to Buck’s hip, reeling him in close.

Using his free arm, Buck moved it over Eddie’s head, shifting his weight at the same time. Swiveling his hips, Buck threw his head back, hands wrapping around Eddie’s neck. I see John being fairly humble with rings. Especially because this is the mid 1800s during the gold rush and he's kind of broke, I imagine? Like even when he and Warm establish their little Texan utopia, I picture him living pretty small and not really wanting decadence.

I think this man would be going to the local blacksmith behind your back, getting these two, simple bands forged. The key word is simple. Marriage is almost a formality for him, but it's meaningful enough just knowing that you'd want to tether yourself to him in such a permanent way.
