okay okay okay thoughts/excited ramblings about the wicked movie under the cut bc i've seen it and now i'm insane about it again

let's be real it's kinda hard to fumble the opening number of a musical especially when that opening number is no one mourns the wicked and yet i was still absolutely blown away it was SO GOOD

the lil munchkins running, the singing in the streets, the posters of the witch (side note all the artwork was insanely good and just added so much to the style of oz i feel like) it was all so awesome

NOMTW becomes so sinister and they nailed it

before i left for the theater i was like 'take your bets on if i'll cry' and my roommate and i agreed that yeah obviously i would. but what i didn't expect is for ariana's sad face to knock me out in five minutes flat. i was done for

the effigy. holy shit. and handing the torch to glinda. i want to go see the whole thing again just so i can rewatch that scene. my heart still hurts

SHIZ okay shiz honestly shiz was the thing i was most excited for bc c'mon, we don't write about our gothic magic school all the time in fic for nothing. and honestly it was so good. the shots of the whole castle! the library design! the balcony moments and the stairways and just like the layers of architecture and the way morrible could kind of be anywhere at any time. the way it felt so grand and yet so small at the same time. idk man the vibes were good and the set was beautiful

the way everything dillamond had was tailored to him was fantastic it was so good

actually i want to shout out the library set design again and how it tied into the clockwork theme that never gets fully called out even in the musical but it's still so good

also back up the scene where elphaba loses her temper in the courtyard--when she breaks the relief of the wizard, there's old artwork of Animals behind it and i gasped out loud when i saw it

and that was the first moment i thought 'this is brilliant but i still want an hbo dark fantasy political drama tv show based on the book'

speaking of the dark fantasy political drama tv shows, the Animal meeting!! i'm so glad they put more stuff like that in there

actually as a whole the movie felt more grounded and less comedic than the musical. i think they did a fantastic job of keeping the magic and silliness and charm and wonder of the show while still adding those extra bits of drama and dire circumstances

anyway gelphie fic prank wars trope is officially canon great work everybody handshakes all around. i was cackling (silently. i promise i'm a respectful moviegoer)

the ozdust ballroom being illegal makes so much sense. it being underwater was fucking cool. boq and nessa were actually really great and i usually don't care about them at all during this scene

also i love love love nessa and i cannot wait to see more of her. but showing her multiple times on the sidelines when elphie was being humiliated was such a good choice. the tension between nessa obviously caring for her sister yet always caring for herself more is so delicious and i always want to see it fleshed out more, and i think they did such a good job with her? her and elphaba have sweet moments which i love, and her wanting to be independent and only elphaba really understanding that is so so good. and having her just watching elphaba for so long before finally saying she can't watch. god i can't wait to see her be desperate and selfish and cold in act 2, it's gonna be so good

side note boq also looking upset by elphie being bullied. i miss my brotp man

but let's talk about what's most important: the gelphie dance. because oh my god i started crying all over again. so did elphaba. and glinda wiping her tears i'm dying i've died oh my god

i always get a little bit surprised when glinda seems more head over heels than elphaba. idk why. but ariana's glinda is absolutely more head over heels than cynthia's elphaba and i loved it

(they just. freaking LEFT the party. just zipped out of there as soon as they hugged. glinda was like hmmm i just realized some things and grabbed elphaba's hand and ran off while the night was young. and fiyero stared after them knowing that he stood no chance whatsoever)

also i'm like 72% sure the guys sitting next to me were a couple? and they both cried during the gelphie dance too and it was a very unexpected but very funny moment of solidarity

i say ariana's glinda is more head over heels and i stand by it but elphaba's fond little smile when glinda was pouting about sharing secrets almost made me start sobbing again they're so GOOD they're so CUTE and she is SO heart eyes for glinda immediately!!!

i say this jokingly but the fiyero and elphaba romance really does feel like a product of the early 2000s especially now that it's on screen rather than on stage. idk maybe that's just the lesbian in me talking though

okay look logically yes i knew idina and kristin would have cameos. but i'd been crying on and off and one short day's magic had already taken hold so they caught me completely off guard. it was great

the wizard stuff was really sweet. and while i was hoping for more time put toward shiz and stuff, i do think those moments did a great job of 1) showing how much elphaba just wants to be loved 2) foreshadowing the wizard being her father and 3) laying the groundwork for her briefly considering working with the wizard in act 2, which is a decision that never quiteee feels right in the show

i love that they put more lore into the grimmerie btw. very cool

the hot air balloon was random but fun. i wonder if it'll come up again in act 2

every time. every damn time glinda starts singing in defying gravity i just want someone to end it right there. glinda grabs the broom, it fades to black, and they both lived happily ever after

kei has a begrudging respect for tsuna. it’s almost ridiculous how tsuna gets punched, bruised, and shot at regularly, but still keeps getting back up like some kind of masochistic superhero. kei can't help but be fascinated by that kind of resilience, even if it's wrapped in a package of misfortune. he sometimes finds himself wondering if he could ever have that same strength, especially when his own luck seems to be working against him constantly. tsuna himself isn't exactly thrilled with such respect.

kei had a classic comic-level crush on bianchi. he found her irresistible, drawn in by her mysterious aura and that seemingly adult vibe she had. it was the kind of crush he knew was probably a bad idea (okay for him it’s always a bad idea), but he found himself falling for her anyway. it was like a tragicomedy, really. despite the risk of bianchi's poisonous cooking, kei was powerless to resist her charms. of course, his luck made sure he got the worst end of the stick, literally. poor guy didn't stand a chance.

My supreme OTPs (which I will order from my favorite to my least favorite): Shinichi x Kaito: I really like rivals to lovers, okay? They have two very gay songs, I don't think I need to say much.

Akako x Kaito: And I like enemies to lovers too much. She tried to kill him, but he still saved her.

Aoko x Hakuba: I have these little crumbs of Aoko x Hakuba, and I don't know, the fact that she has his phone number, it made my mind think "I think they would look cute together".

Also, the fact that their dynamic is somewhat similar to Iida x Ochako made me pay attention to them a lot.

Sonoko x Ran:

Oh yeah, I like friends to lovers too.

They have shared interests, how much they care for each other, I think they are quite cute together. There are two movies in particular that shaped my liking for them, where they both face the pirates and where Ran loses her memory.

Ships I like (but not as much as the ones above): Aoko x Akako: Aside from Kaito, Aoko is the only one who makes Akako blush. Also the fact that Akako is willing to protect her instead of hurting her.

general opinion over said character: i like him lots! i think he's super well written. throughout the game he's only eluded to as the big final boss you'll inevitably meet, and over time he goes from "scary evil king who's name is always red so you know he's serious" to just... big fuzzy pushover. he goes to school to teach kids about plants... he buys his friends teacups that look like them... the scene where you first meet him is genuinely one of my favorites in the game he makes me cry. and on the other hand "eggs husband" is the FUNNIEST deltarune scene. he's so versatile

A ship I have with said character: REGIN SUWEN/MARONE FOR THE WIN. i just think they make sense together!!! their personalities mesh really well.... marone is all headstrong and regins more passive yes but theyre also both very earnest sweet people and they balance each other perfectly <3 i also love how marones become regin's vet assistant (her love of animals too T^T her growing fond of ground dragons more after being saved by frufoo...)!! and the tsuchigumo (this little spider-looking spirit iirc from one of the otto related side stories, for those who dont know) is BASICALLY THEIR CHILD NOW.... i love their little family i hope marone and regin get happily married <33

A BROTP I have with said character: OTTO AND MARONE OF COURSE. bad luck buddies who get really headstrong <33 aaa just theyre very sweet!! and similarly to regin, otto is also. More Submissive, in a sense. so of course otto and marone balance each other nicely - and i just think marone's "number two" nickname for otto IS SO SWEET ITS SO. A random headcanon: MARONE. MAYBE GETS REGIN TO QUIT SMOKING. I DONT KNOW IF FANTASY WORLD CIGARETTES HAVE HEALTH CONSEQUENCES BUT LIKE. MY DUDE YOU ARE A DOCTOR. HAH. regin and otto out here with smoking and drinking respectively as their vices.... they need anxiety meds or something i swear.

additionally.... in pride and wrath if of course, otto becomes a debt slave. i like to think that marone becomes interested in the idea of saving other people from slavery / almost slavery like what otto did for her...... we know that otto saved her months before the start of like. arc 1 i think?? so its like. that event still happened in pride and wrath if. and we know that otto eventually dies in pride if.... im sure the suwens found out about his death somehow, especially if hes just not talked to them for a While... maybe marone could help find out what happened to otto? because im sure it is Worrying when the person in the family with notoriously bad luck has been Completely Silent for a little too long. i doubt pride/wrath otto would contact any of them - he wouldnt want them getting involved. but marone seems like the type that would get involved!!! i think shes smarter than she looks!!!!

General Opinion over said character:

SHE IS SO SWEET. I ADORE HER. SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE'D GIVE GREAT HUGS... I LOVE HER PASSION... i wish the best for her <3 and i think she should get to go insane. shes like... she seems all happy go lucky but her backstory of like :( being sold to bandits as slaves because the people in her town had to give some women over so the city wouldnt get attacked... and then she was there for a while and got saved by otto T^TT and then tsuchigumo stuff happens and she literally just goes "let me tell you about my (totally not tragic) anime backstory to lighten the mood!! :DDD" and then EVERYONE thinks shes bad luck after that.... poor girl :(( but also she is SO STRONG for still being so determined and passionate!! like she KNOWS otto saying he killed bandits on accident is complete and total bullshit. she knows he gave her his own money and not "bounty money". AND THEN SHE LITERALLY SAYS THAT SHES TIRED OF HIDING AWAY AND WAITING AROUND AND TAKING THE WEIGHT OF CRIMES SHE DIDNT COMMIT AND HOW "That frail lady logic isnt my thing at all!" shes so. there may not be too much to her because shes like. a Pretty Minor character. but whats there is so good with the small amount of screentime she has. she eats up every scene shes in. her like Surprising sharpness with how shes fed up with Bullshit (ottos bullshit... and going out to go and do something about the tsuchigumo situation...) is such a neat contrast to her softness too (and makes her a great character to balance out, say, regin or otto)!! shes so cool. i admire her always.

Sexuality Headcanon: the fact that the fandom *unanimously* agrees he’s not straight is hilarious. I could see him being Bi, Pan or Gay.

Gender Headcanon: Cis-dudebro but I think this is more a reflection of my own experience with gender (I say this as it pertains to all the characters you mentioned below) because whenever I see someone's trans Bakugo, I eat that up too. Specifically @peterokii's T4T KiriBaku, all their art, which includes keychains, stickers, prints, comics and pfps, is beautiful and has a lot of SeroRoki and wholesome Todofam. A NOTP I have with said character: N/A, tbh I love all Bakugo ships (barring the odd student x teacher ships though I've mainly seen those for Midoriya).

A random headcanon: Bakugo's room is in pristine condition, obviously, with demure nods to his love for All Might. But I also think he has a picture of kid-Bakugo and Kid-Zuku on his desk. I think Deku has a twin picture in his room and that's what he hides before everyone walks into his embarrassing fanboy dorm.

General Opinion over said character: Polarizing but there's a reason he's been number 1 in the popularity polls 9 years straight. For this reason, he's frequently misinterpreted in fandom, but I think the complexity of his character is precisely why I like him and it's definitely something that's being brought into the light now in the manga which I love. I recall Horikoshi saying something along the lines of whether you love or hate Bakugo, the end of his character arc will please you which, at the time, was a little concerning. But, in my opinion, he's executing this last arc beautifully. I still don't know what that'll mean for Bakugo, completely, but he's had some big, beautiful moments.

A random headcanon: Gojo, with his luxury wardrobe, furnishings, and all his brilliance... still has the same flip phone he's had since high school. It's got all his pics, all his memories but also, lowkey? He's just not tech savvy. He finds his smartphone overstimulating and is regularly engaging Megumi on tech support for random stuff and nothing beats the satisfaction of an "I don't get email on this phone" punctuated by the clap of his phone closing whenever Ijichi reaches out requesting paperwork or reports post-mission.

General Opinion over said character: Gojo is another character, like Bakugo, who is like willfully and regularly mischaracterized by fans (both those who love and those who hate him, tbh). It's hard to remember he's just a side character because, even being removed for more of the story than he's in, the brain rot that he and what we've seen of his backstory inspires is debilitating.

A random headcanon: Ash seems like the type who would mother and tut to the younger kids while also not being completely capable of taking care of himself. Like chastising Kong and Bones for their 3 and 1 body wash meal but being completely incapable of preparing a meal that isn't microwaved. Tutting Skip for having his elbows on the bar while they eat and drink but his firearm resting on the lip of the bar is totally fine. He ruled with an iron fist, yes, but the line everyone toed was out of respect not fear per se... unless they had to wake him up, of course. Similar to how waking him is like waking the dead, I just know he turns into a big ole baby when he's sick. He used to grit and bear it but with Eiji's introduction, he milks it.

General Opinion over said character: Ash Lynx deserved better. How can you not love and want to protect this kid? I also appreciate that under all that grit, that violence was a person who did what he needed to to take care of his brother; to watch out for younger kids in the only way he could/knew how; to still open his heart and trust to a total stranger who found himself in a new country.

A random headcanon: I don't think Hermione ever stopped championing the underdog. She might have gotten a job at the Ministry of Magic 👀 but homegirl spent her time outside of work rallying protests, attending marches (both in muggle and magical spaces) for causes that she felt could positively shape the world in better ways than the confines of her previously tyrannical 9-5. Also, did her working there after not sit right with others? Again, something I probably more appreciate as an adult than a child.

General Opinion over said character: The Author is Dead but also, as an adult thinking about Hermione in this story, it's crazy to have given What's Her Name so much credit for writing such a whip smart and proactive heroine when she ultimately used her to also be pejorative about social justice issues when it came to advocating for the house elves. That disconnect is so ironic from someone who *thinks* they're a feminist (author's note, you cannot be a transphobe and a feminist. Okay, I am gonna ask on the Beifong sisters. Suyin und Lin!

Oooh, the Beifong sisters! I would totally watch a spin-off with nothing but Beifong drama. That's how much I love this family, warts and all precisely because in their imperfections they're so fascinating. @mikaharuka also wanted to know about them so let's begin with the elder, dutiful sister, the one and only Chief Lin "that lady is my hero" Beifong and I'll get to Su in a separate post.

Besides being a workaholic and married to her job, I believe Lin is queer (undefined but definitely not straight) and demiromantic.

OTP for Lin? Lin/happiness. Although I enjoy Kyalin, I don’t really have a strong OTP for her but I want her to live her best life with whoever she chooses. I’ve seen her shipped with a lot of characters and it’s funny how she’s been paired with both of Tenzin’s siblings. One ship I admit I find intriguing is one that I stumbled upon through a fanart and it’s Lin/Iroh II and honestly, I can see it work. Yeah, she’s older than him but it’s about the same age difference as the canonical Tenzin/Pema. Besides. Lin is hot and she definitely doesn’t move or look like a woman in her fifties so age ain’t nothing but a number here. I can get behind cougar Lin 😉

Mako. Although she still has a good relationship with her old flame Tenzin, I believe Mako is the closest to a BROTP for her. I’ve seen Lin romantically paired with Mako but personally, I prefer the “momboss and detectiveson” dynamic for them. They just understand each other well since they’re both the oldest children and they had to carry the burden of responsibility early in their lives.  I also like to think that she could be a great mentor and friend to Kuvira and I love the idea of the two of them sharing drinks while spilling the beans about Suyin.

The reason Lin and Tenzin spent a lot of time together growing up is Aang, since he was for all intents and purposes, Lin and Su’s main father figure. Like Tenzin once noted, “my father and Lin got along famously.” After training with Tenzin, he would take some time to practice earthbending with the Beifong girls and Lin admitted that Aang made learning more fun that her mom. It took her a long time to recover from Aang’s demise so part of her initial skepticism toward Korra is the fact that it reminded her that Aang was gone and this chaotic energetic girl was his successor.

Celrond <3 (closely currently followed by Brimbrond (Celebrimbor x Elrond) -- but that's on a VERY close tier with QPR!Gilrond and Celrondir)

Tie between Elrond & Erestor and Elrond & Celeborn right now, but this question always fluctuates for me. I've really been in a second age Elrond mood thanks to Rings of Power lately and have been thinking a LOT about what it must have been like to have been him at that period in his life when he was so utterly immersed in a purely Elvish and presumably overwhelmingly Noldorin court. Did anybody understand his sense of temperature? His need for sleep? His sense of time? His ability to get ill? Did he accept those things about himself and stand up for himself to get his needs met or did he try and keep up with everyone else (hint: in my head it's the latter). How lonely must his existence at Gil's court truly have been in the early half of the second age? Anyway -- I headcannon Erestor as Peredhel, and headcannon that Elrond met him sometime around this time and that it was somewhat of a revelation for him to discover that a) there are other people like him and b) that maybe some of the things that make him 'faulty' or 'eccentric' by Elvish standards are really just human (or maia) traits and actually are just fine & he shouldn't be suppressing them.

And then there's Celeborn, who I headcannon has a strong vested interest in helping Elrond come to terms with his Sindarin heritage, which largely goes ignored (but that Elrond seems to overwhelmingly align himself with in the books). If we're going with a kidnap fam timeline, then Elrond was probably raised to be ragingly culturally Noldorin, and then Gil's court as previously stated is super Noldorin as well and I headcannon that most people there tend to think of him in terms of "Earendillion" -- thus again, stamping him "Noldorin". I think a lot about the fact that he probably had a Sindarin/Doriathrim accent/subdialect prior to the Sack of Sirion, and probably developed either a Feanorian accent or at the very least a strong Noldorin accent by the time he would have met Celeborn. He's got a mixed heritage and possibly doesn't know very much about the Sindarin half early on in his life, and so I think Celeborn really took him under his wing at that point and had a vested interest in helping him learn about Doriath, and Elwing, and Melian & Luthien and Sindarin cultural in general.

4: notp

I'm extremely fond of Elrond in all sorts of relationships and various constellations and polycules because he has so much love to give! But in terms of relationships I think I actively avoid/dislike, it's Gilrond in any dynamic which is romantic (because I headcannon Gil as ragingly aro), and tbh just...most Gilrond portrayals, because most often the power disparity is either romanticised or sexualised and I that's just...a personal squick for me. Ignored is less squicky but I still just don't really like reading their dynamic unless the author has taken some form of effort to reconcile the power disparity. Gil's the high king & Elrond is his herald. Gil could literally ruin his life and there are clear issues of consent in a dynamic like that. It's extremely easy for that to turn into something super unhealthy or dangerous so fucking fast and it always makes me a bit squeamish about the ship. There are ways around it and ways to resolve it in a healthy way, but that does take a lot of work and forethought. Most Gilrond fics tend to gloss over the potential issues of consent and just sexualize the power disparity and that's so gross to me sorryyyy.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

He deals with really bad sleep paralysis because he's subject to a weird combo of elf-sleep (walking the paths of memory) and true-sleep (actual dream-states), on top of the curse gift of foresight which results in some wack ass visions.

6: favorite line from this character

Books it's a tie between: "Elrond laughed" and “Such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere.” and "“Elrond’s house was perfect, whether you liked food or sleep or story-telling or singing (or reading), or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness. … Evil things did not come into the secret valley of Rivendell." (none of these are strictly lines and this last one is not strictly from the character but shhhhh)

In the films: "You should have stayed dead" (From PJ's hobbit. That scene is so self-indulgent for me asdlkghjkl)

In Rings of Power: "I swore an oath to Durin. To some, that may now hold little weight. But in my esteem, it is by such things our very souls are bound." (meanwhile me screaming at the screen NO OATHS!! NO OATHS!! YOU DUMB BITCH!!!! but this line still hits me so hard)

@the-commonplace-book pointed out the other day that a lot of my headcannons surrounding Elrond's differences due to his peredhel heritage and how he (and others) responds to it and struggles to accept his own limits are a rather good metaphor for chronic illness and disability and I haven't been the same since & feel very Seen (derogatory).
