People in the Buffy fandom love to rail against the idea that a vampire's personality has nothing to do with who they were as a human being. I've lost track of how many times I've seen a post on here pointing out how hard this stance is to justify and how ridiculous it is that the writers in general and Giles in particular keeps claiming it to be true. Which is interesting, since what I've just described is a position that both Giles and the show more broadly never actually takes.

The one time Buffy suggests this might be true -- when she tells Willow that "a vampire's personality has nothing to do with the person it was" in Season 3's Doppelgangland -- she is clearly meant to be wrong! Angel very obviously is about to correct her when he chimes in with "well, actually...", and she knows he is about to disagree with her which is why she glares at him to make him stop. What's more, what Buffy is telling Willow in this scene has no bearing on anything the show has said or shown before. We are not meant to think Buffy is accurately descibing the show's position. We're not even meant to think it's something Buffy herself believes. She's very obviously just saying it to try to make Willow feel better. This is not subtle!

The very first human we see on the show who gets turned into a vampire is Season 1's Jesse in the opening two-parter Welcome to the Hellmouth / The Harvest. Human!Jesse is, not to be too charitable, an unpleasant creep who is weirdly obsessed with Cordelia Chase. Vampire!Jesse is ... also an unpleasant creep who is weirdly obsessed with Cordelia Chase. Don't you think this is an odd creative choice if the show wanted you to really think that a vampire's personality was nothing like the human they used to be?

This trend of linking a vampire's personality to that of their former human life continues throughout the first season. Why would Giles warn Buffy (in Never Kill A Boy On The First Date) that the human Andrew Borba, who they suspect has been sired as the Anointed One, was wanted by the police for "questioning in a double murder" if a human's personality had no bearing on the vampire they would become? And indeed, a couple of episodes later, in the same season's Angel, Giles will explicitly tell Buffy that "a vampire [...] may have the movements, the memories, even the personality of the person that it took over."

Having established this back in its first season, it remains a part of the show's lore in every future season. It's one of the elements of the show's often mutable world-building that remains the most consistent. Angel and Spike will both talk about things that "they" did as humans. Giles will continue to warn Buffy that the current vampire of the week was a horrible murderer before becoming a vampire [see: the Gorch brothers in Season 2's Bad Eggs, or Zachary Kralik in Season 3's Helpless], which only makes sense for him to do if he thinks that has a bearing on how dangerous they are as a vampire. Drusilla, as a vampire, is shown to be insane because of pyschological torture she was subjected to by Angelus while she was a human. (If a vampire's personality was entirely separate from that of the original human, how would this work?) Buffy admits to Ford in Season 2's Lie To Me that a vampire "walks and talks and [...] remembers [it's former] life". And so on, and so on.

And yet, without fail, every couple of months, somebody will announce that a vampire's personality in Buffy very often mirrors the personality of the human who died to become that vampire, as if this is somehow a radical and subversive reading of the text. Well, yeah, no shit. That's explicitly how it's always worked.

What's next: a post bravely insisting that -- no matter what Joss Whedon might want you to think -- vampires on the show really do hate sunlight and crosses and holy water? That maybe being a Slayer might be a metaphor for something? That there are subtle clues and hints scattered throughout the show's final seasons that suggest that maybe Marti Noxon and Doug Petrie are wrong, and that Willow might not be straight?

Smells and Scent Glands

Every single dynamic has their own unique scent that tells a person apart from others. It is used as an identifier and a mean of speech, as emotional state of an individual influences their overall scent, which makes reading people an easier affair. There are characteristics that are shared by all dynamics and some that are exclusive to only one or two.

Note for all dynamics:

Scent comes from scent glands

Scent glands are situated all across our bodies, but there are known spaces where scent glands are highly compacted and with heightened scent production. All compacted scent gland places are more sensitive to outside touches.

The scent of an individual is made of few components : Base scent, dynamic scent, emotional state, and biological state.

Base scent is the individual scent person develops that is solely unique to the person,when they are old enough to develop one

Base scent will always be present but may be changed in some time of way due to emotional state or biological state

Dynamic scent is as name descibes- the scent that describes someone's secondary gender. It is an undertone that will remain present from person's presenting onward

Biological state can temporarily change or add to person's overall scent, for example Alphas in rut produce domineering scent and pregnant omega's scent may change into sweet,milky undertones.

Some ,,taste'' of scents may be present in more than one dynamic

for example betas can omegas can both smell like Orchids even if the scent is slightly different

No person will have the same exact scent as someone else. They may be similiar tho

Person may ,,scent'' things to proclaim them as their own or mark their territory

Scents may be released to influence other people, for example to soothe them,warn them or express themselves

Fear smells sour

Negative emotions smell bitter

Positive emotions smell warm and sweet

Sadness smells dull

Children will develop their own scent at the age of 8, before that age they smell exactly like their parents, so they are easier to identify

Families tend to have similiar scent elements

Alphas

The strongest and longest holding scent of all dynamics

Their scent are full and heavy, very easy to pick up on from distances

They have the highest number of scent glands of all dynamics

The downside to this is that alphas may accidentaly scent someone, by brushing against someone or even shaking their hands.

Alphas because of this have the highest control of their scent glands.

Alphas may infuse their scent with commands to influence other people of ,,lower" dynamics. Doing this too other alphas will often end in confrontation and fights.

Betas

They have the weakest scent glands of all dynamics

Their scents are fresh and not ,,in the front"

It makes them easier to be around and overall more pleasing

Their scent gland produce the least amount of scent and the glands are not sensitive at all

Female beta's scent glands on their breast may enlarge during their pregnancy and postpartum but will return to normal after some time

Omegas

They have the most reactive and sensitive scent glands of all dynamics

They are the most affected by scent changes and may more quickly react to smells, making them the best at reading people

Their scent are welcoming and calming

Omega's scent glands may automatically respond to situation changes before they even proccess them. For example producing calming pheromones when someone nearby is injured

Scent glands on stomach and breast will start to develop during pregnancy and while stomach one will fade after time, the breast ones will not.

You know what? It is time to realise that the original fairy tale princesses are not the damsel in distresses they are always accused to be!

As a big fairytale fan that BUGS me!!!! All the time I hear that princesses are bad role models for girls because they teach them jsut to be pretty and wait for big manly prince to rescue them and that....is not true?????

Even for Disney Princesses that is hardly accuarate, for the original fairy tale princesses, not at all.

In Disney I think we only have two princesses where this description fits. Aurora and Snow White. They are indeed mostly passive (especially Aurora who quickly dozes off) and get rescued by true love's kiss.

Cinderella- no. Sorry, no way I agree that she gets rescued by a prince.

Like let's have a look at another fairy tale. Puss in boots. The youngest son of the miller inherits a cat, cat takes him on adventures, vanquishes a wizard and as reward the miller's son gets to marry the princess and inherit half the kingdom.

Now usually say the princess is the boy's reward, a literal trophy wife. However I argue if we declare her a trophy wife the prince in Cinderella is a trophy husband. And the other way round, if we agree Cinderella's prince saved her, then the princess saved the miller's son!

Cinderella was not saved. She got a bit lucky that is all. She was an abused girl who just wanted to have a few nights out and have some fu dancing. All that happened then was not someone rescuing her, but because she was a lovely person. The one thing her stepmother and sisters could not rob her of, was her personality. She is sweet, kind and loving and not matter how mean they were, she was radical in remaning kind. That the prince fell in love with her was not to rescue her but becasue he fell in love with a girl who was nice, beautiful and kind.

And then there are so many other "princesses" who never got their own movies and are nto as well known but who actually have way mroe agency than the men in the fairytales whic I always find interestin. (Probably because many of those tales were probably mostly told by women)

Like Rose Red and Snow White? Save the prince eventually. Receive ech a prince as reward which is neat (they liked one of those anyway), but were doing fine anyway.

The seven swans. Princess saves not one but seven princes (her brothers) through great personal sacrifice. King falls in love with her and after being deceived in believing she was a witch apologises to her.

Seven Ravens, again sister saving her birdified brothers yet a very different adventure. She travels to sun and moon and rescues them.

Not an old fairy tale but in the Snow Queen the boy is saved not by a lover (it is more descibed as an innocent love between children) but his dearest playmate Gerda. She ravels through adversities to the Snow Queens realm and saves him.

Heck even Sleepign Beauty didn't really get saved by a prince in the Grimm version! This prince just was lucky to walk by when the 100 years were up and the curse had expired.

Fairy tales are full of interesting and energetic women who take fate in their own hands and save the day, even if someone come to argue that there might be other older version I am not aware of that may well be, but the Grimms versions are told this way for over 200 years now (and were written dwon that way at a time we generally wold not consider the height of the emancipation movement).

Acting as if independetn and energetic women are an invention of the 20th century is not only erasign women's contribution to history but also sets the scene for a dangerous argument that it is " unnatural" or a "trend" for women to be so.

So yeah, I will stilly love my princesses and really recommend everyone to also read some of the less well known works of Grimm.

(btw also nothing wrong with some of ther heroines who needed help, there is something beautiful about people being able to ask for help when at their wits end and receiving it (e.g. the girl in Bluebeard).

Nature is freedom

I just read a beautiful post about the way KinnPorsche uses nature as a contrast to industrialization and especially to the mafia life. It inspired me to dig even a bit deeper into it and kind of complete my post "destroying a fairytale".

Episode 6 is refreshing because we see both Porsche and Kinn in a different light. They are so relaxed when far away from other people. They aren't seen by anyone they know and can be themselves in the peaceful arms of nature. It's really symbolic that nature lets them be their true selves and be "more natural".

But nature is not only used in this episode. Since episode 2 and basically since Porsche is involved in Kinn's life, we partly see natural places whenever true colors show. First, it's just Porsche seeking nature because Kinn only loosens up now.

When Porsche starts working for Kinn, he is lost and overwhelmed of all the rules. No one seems to be really trustworthy or takes care of him. It's like they're all running whilst he can just walk, so we see him spend some time in the garden, smoking and calming down. Nature has a calming effect when stressed and whenever Porsche is overwhelmed, feels bad or is stressed, he smokes. It's just him in the garden, alone, and the purity of existence surrounds him in a quiet atmosphere. He can be who he wants to be and do things he likes. Vegas is an important factor here because he talks nicely to Porsche, so Porsche continues the conversation, because in the garden, he's free. Kinn only lectures him afterwards but when he's outside, things just are, without reason or second-guessing. The garden is Porsche's place where he can be himself, free from other's stares and judgement.

We never saw Kinn in the same light we do in this sixth episode. He shows a very different side of him and it's because they are surrounded by pure nature. Things happen naturally and he can just chill for a second. This adventure here stands in contrast to his usual life and he more and more feels like his life is a burden because nature makes it look so easy to just stay. Nature was Porsche's freedom but Kinn discovers his own freedom in it right there and is obviously relieved now. Society doesn't exist where they are and there are no rules to obey because none of them judges the other. Nature is understood as two different kinds of freedom by these two. For Porsche, he just relaxes but is still the same person. He was always a free spirit, just rolling with it. For Kinn, it's something too good to be true and has a bitter taste because it will end far too soon. But he tries to live in the moment and it works for quite some time. Just enjoying the fact that he is alone.

Another intersting thing I always point out when I find it, is the motive of "inside vs outside". It's about the protagonists having different personalities depending on who they're surrounded with. In Lovely Writer, it was them staying at home in contrast to going outside. Here it is the mafia vs nature. Both descibe different personalities and in Kinn's case his personalities are very far apart because he puts up high walls of social filter and is very careful to whom he talks to. The mafia life weights heavy on both of them, so nature feels like freedom and their true colors show. It's not really "inside vs outside" but they exist in two different situations now and that changes their whole dynamic. Because the moment you see a different side of someone, they let you in, they invite you to know them better than others, so even when coming back there's still a spark left and the knowledge of secrets. Their behavior changed and I don't think it will be left unnoted.

The Oval Portrait - Edgar A. Poe

He had been wounded. He has broken into a tiny apartment, taking residence there for the night. The night is filled with luscious sleep, walls draped over in antique tapestries and shields, and quite modern paintings that decorated the walls in a mesmerising, eye-catching way. Before the narrator and his servant take slumber, he took interest to a particular painting. There is a booklet on the bed in this space, containing descriptions of these art pieces. As his acquaintance Pedro falls asleep on the bed, the narrator takes his time to open the booklet with descriptions of the paintings, with his gaze being caught by an oval portrait in a corner. He then concludes courtesy of the books information, that, indeed, it was the painters/writers wife as the subject of the masterpiece. The story was quite upsetting; the painter had an affection for art, seemingly he cared more for art than his own wife. Therefore, she had come to resent the whole art of painting alltogether. Though, she had agreed to pose for her husbands newest work. The room was lit only from above, giving the wife an angelic aesthetic, light dripping off her skin and making her glow in the tiny room. The painter spends multiple, dreadful weeks working on the artwork, without noticing his wife loosing her strength, completely exhausted, as he had looked at the canvas more than his own lover. Eventually, he had finished his artwork, exclaiming; ''this indeed is life itself!'', before noticing that, the subject of the masterpiece, his own wife he had failed to care for, had died.

Now, i think this is quite a vivid and warm poem. As in, Edgar writes this story to come off very haunting, yet describes the room in this eery, yet warm way. The small apartment signifies, in my opinion, how trapped the wife felt, as she loved her husband yet felt like he loved art more than her. The tapestries and shields showed her beauty, how shes a work of art, sort of introducing her to the person who would enter this apartment. They can mean multiple things, however this one sticks out to me the most. It makes the story seem sadder than it already is portrayed as. The painter being obsessed with art occurs to me as perhaps him being so invested in his wifes beauty that he forgets all things that are real, like his wife, and imagines everything as purely imaginary. This is actually proved by two paragraphs that were removed by the first newsletter that published this story, they descibe how the narrator got injured and that he used opium to relieve the pain. These were most likely removed, due to Edgar not wanting the whole ordeal to seem like a hallucination. I think this makes it a lot more interesting, as well.

I would, however, like to focus on one thing in particular. The way Edgar portrays the differences between art and life, just within few pages. His choice of wording, which is always exquisite, just shines in this story. This story would require quite a detailed analysis and summary for all the details he gives out to link together, but it was possible to collect up the main parts of his astonishing storytelling. It is written in narrative form, the narrator sharing a story found in a chateau. Edgar writes in such a way, that you are given a central idea which is explored and detailed, though the way what the difference between the link in life and art is so difficult to analyse. Its almost like its written as a warning not to indulge yourself in something fake. The painter had grown so obsessed with the painting of his own magnificent wife, that he just completely forgot her and eventually, she had died due to his carelessness and lack of love towards her. You could say it is sort of depicted as a 'moralising' story, told by just a passerby, and it is just so agonising that it aches the heart because of the painters grave error of wrapping himself up in fake idealogy that was actually right in front of him the whole time.

Welcome to “Natives Your” a series where I struggle to find native representation in media so I have decided to learn about my culture and apply it to media I enjoy! 

I am registered in the Kaw tribe and (Not registered but blood) Potawatomi. The Kaw tribe reservation (the kaw nation) is in  the middle northern part of of Oklahoma. The Potawatomi resveration (Called the Prairie Band) is in the South eastern portion of Kansas. Most of my information will be coming from the official Potawatomi website. They do have a bit better preserved history.

This episode of “natives your” IS HERMITCRAFT 

Stress and Iskall: They are Paissa! Which translates to “little ones”. Paissa are magical little people of the forest! Very similar to European gnomes or fairies. They are two feet tall ::) In some stories' they are just pranksters in other stories they are highly magical and are not afraid to act if provoked. 

Impusle: Impulse is a Cigwe or better known as A thunderbird, with the wings of a eagle. Cigwe are big powerful mythical birds, it is said thunder is caused by the flap of their wings. 

Cleo: Cleo is a Mnito . Mnito is snake monster is a dreadful man-eating creature that lurks in lakes and rivers and drowns unwary travelers. Mnitos have horns and armored scales and are extremely difficult to kill. The only thing Mnitos  fears is thunder. 

False: False has an Eagle come on now. You KNOW im all over this. In potatwatomi Culture Eagles are one of the most important animals as they are believed to carry messages to the creator.  I like to believe she makes eagle feather fans to give to her friends ::) She decorates them in bedding, personalizing them. She always has her aviary glove on her. She has raised many eagles from egg. 

Xisuma/Evil X: I dont care if it was only last season. Anyway in legonds, Potawatomi orgianlly lived on the coast and was told to move inwards till they reached turtle island and found a plant that lived in water. Which was interpreted as wild rice. But Turtle Island was supposedly a turtle who had given his body to be the land. And so I think Evil X was the original land and the new turtle island is Xisuma. And therefore has turtle feature ::) 

Scar: I think scar does quill work. Idk fits his theme this season. /pos 

Gem: I think Gem would be a jiggle dancer! Which is a healing dance. To be one you must dream of it, so I think she must of had one when she was younger and had help making all 365 of the cone. Probably from impulse. 

Pearl: Pearl is a Fancy shawl dancer, which is described as “Compared to butterflies, these light-footed dancers wear brightly fringed shawls over their shoulders, which complement the twirling, prancing pirouetting steps of this high spirited dance.” and “Legend says that the young ladies and their shawls represent the transition from a cocoon to a beautiful butterfly.”  

Bdubs: BDUBS DOES MEN’S GRASS DANCE!! THE REGALIA MAKES MY BRAIN.

Zedaph: I feel like Zed would do men’s fancy dance ::) It is descibed as “Known for their stamina, high jumps, and quick footwork, fancy dancers dazzle.” along with, “Their outfits are constructed of two multi-colored bustles (worn around the neck and back), matching bead work, and whips which are held to emphasize the elaborate gestures of these spirited dancers.” I feel like he has the energy to match.

Hi! I just saw this and want to address this directly for full transparency.

Yes, I fully admit that I have been struggling to complete quite a few commissions since 2022. It's been the most difficult period of my life, and I can go into much detail on everything that I've been stuggling with in my personal life for these past few years, but at the end of the day, none of it is an excuse (maybe an explanation at best). (If anyone wants to hear the full story, feel free to dm me).

I have always, always provided refunds for cancelled commissions when requested. If you emailed me requesting a refund, and I haven't replied yet, I'm truly sorry. Staying on top of communication is another thing that I've been immensely struggling with for the past year in particular, due to severe burn out and constant feeling of being overwhelmed, particularly in between several international relocations that depleted my financial and mental resources in the span of two years. I won't even touch on the topic of my deteriarating mental health because it just feels like another excuse. And I'm not trying to make excuses, but that's the truth. It has never, ever, been my intention to not either deliver on my obligations, or provide a refund and/or compensation to the best of my ability. My capacity to do so has just been severely depleted for over a year, and for making it anyone else's problem, I can only sincerely apologize and promise to do what's in my power to make up for it.

Re: not answering emails, I've had an overflowing inbox of emails that have been piling up while I got tied up with one thing or another to contain the chaos of my personal life during the past couple of years. I'm trying to work my way through them whenever I physically have the time and energy to so. It's the same reason I haven't been active on socials, particulary twitter, for the past couple of months, it's not that I'm choosing to ignore anyone, I simply don't have the capacity to deal with it at the moment. If I haven't answered your email, it's not because I'm choosing to ignore you, it's because I failed to get on top of it for now, most likely not seeing it in the ocean of things I need to take care of until I go sorting through my inbox. And that is absolutely 100% my failure that I fully own up to, and I'm so so sorry. I have recently moved again, and I spent the past month just trying to get settled and breath through the anxiety and tackle the mountain of things that I need to sort out to get back to everyone who's been patiently waiting for my reply, either about a commission, or a shop order, and get back to shipping orders in a reliable way.

If I haven't replied to your email yet, please allow me the next week to do so, and feel free to follow up if I don't (sometimes emails simply get lost, it's happened before). I hope it's not too much to ask at this point. I sincerely apologize for all the grief and concern I might've caused, and if there's anything I can do/offer to convince you all of my dedication to make things right, please let me know. There is a lot of stuff I'm juggling in relation to that, and I admit I have dropped the ball on communicating clearly and openly about the status of certain products/orders for the past year. Mostly because there is just too much chaos and uncertainty in my life to the point where I can't predict what I'll be dealing with tomorrow. Every time I think I do, I end up facing a dead end and I have to adjust. In the past few years, I've had to deal with international customs bouncing stocks of product, lost shipments, mail services fucking me over by not processing the shipments correctly, etc which lead to loss of hundreds of dollars every time something was fumbled. Looking back, I know I should've given an update on each issue, but with how much there has been going on in my life in terms of such roadblocks constantly, for the past 3 years, I simply didn't have the energy to slow down and do so. Every time there was a dead end, I was frantically working on finding a solution so I could move forward. I just never expected or calculated that each problem would take so freaking long to deal with, with a potential next roadblock waiting just ahead. In short, I have been really too overwhemed to stop and reasess. A bunch of shipments I mailed out last year ended up lost in the mail, and since I didn't track them (my bad, I was still new to how unreliable things were when it came to post in the country I relocated to last Summer), I wasn't aware of it unless the person I shipped them to contacted me directly. I did my best to reply, but if I missed or didn't get to your message yet, I apologize. I will provide a refund, or a replacement, for all undelivered orders, that has always been my intention. I am truly sincerely sorry for making concerned that I wouldn't. Now, I can go on and on about each individual batch of delayed or lost order that I've had to deal with in the past year+, but that would take too long. If you have a question regarding any specific order or product that wasn't delivered, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to answer asap. Please keep in mind that it might take me a few days to do so. Just saw your post about cyareclones. Such a bummer. I haven’t bought anything from them but me and some friends are having a similar experience with Lornaka. We bought some art months ago and haven’t gotten anything and she hasn’t answered any of our emails. After asking around we found out this is pretty standard for her. Hopefully we get our art soon and I hope things resolve for you too!

I go by pronouns she/they and I'm a scorpio. If people I met have to describe me, they would probably say that I'm a quiet person (no honey, I'm not quiet, I'm just socially awkward). I would descibe myself as a very stubborn and direct person, I'm surely not afraid of speaking my mind but I'm not the most honest person around. While I tend to be loud around people I know, my social bettery drain itself quite quickly, so I have the tendency to isolate myself sometimes.

Some of my interests are music (singing and listening to music), reading, writing (usually something comic, but occasionally romance) and drawing (short comics and stuff like that).

I don't really care about how my partner looks like, but I'd love someone understanding (not only towards me but to others too) but able to stand their ground. Someone who's not afraid to show me their affection also sound quiet atttactive to me. I wouldn't mind a shyer partner as long as they'll show me that they care.

A big no-no for me is someone who think they're always right, my stubborness wouldn't be able to deal with them (and them wouldn't be able to deal with me probably), and also someone who can't take a no. I probably wouldn't want to deal with someone shallow.

I know a lot of people won't like me speculating about this and call it disrespectful, but I don't care, I'm going to say it anyway: Regarding people constantly saying how Cam and L are always so blant and not too romantic or whatever as a couple, the lack of 'couple vibes' and shit... and while I acknowledge that there's couples that keep very private or just aren't into being too openly affectionate or whatever and I think this is possible here too, sure, the thing with these two is, they have always seemed just so... especially odd... with the way they're presenting each other, even for a private or not too in love couple this seems rather weird and unusual, like many of you said before... And I know most of you seem to have decided now that likely the reason for this is cause Cam just wanted to settle for someone finally and well, there she was, willing to do this with him cause she thinks he's cute or something and developed a massive crush on him, but honestly... like you said recently, a good way to descibe them as a couple is that they're just 'there'... which makes me think: why are we even completely ruling out this not even being real love at all, but nothing but a rather poorly executed publicity stunt? I know many will call me saying that disrespectful towards Cam and his love life, but honestly, hear me out: just look at how they keep taking pictures of each other in a way that you really gotta call it a pattern by now: Like they regularly go on trips together, sure, but whenever they do, they share pics where in most of them, you don't even see them in a picture together, it's mainly only pics of each other seperately, and in those they're often just 'there' in them, you just see one of them randomly standing around somewhere or something, not even acknowledging the other person taking their picture, mean to say, they're very reminiscent of those pics you take of others on trips to later say 'oh btw, that person also happened to be there', because you're just supposed to acknowledge other people on a trip with you if you didn't go alone. And whenever they do take a picture together when they go out for something private, it's starting to be the same type of picture almost every time: they take a selfie together in front of a mirror, but one where they're simply just standing next to each other, period. Almost as if they needed to serve up prove that they went somewhere together, but that was that, kinda like 'well, we gotta do this, so let's just do it like this real quick to get it over with'. Or look at when they do public events together, happened not too often so far, but whenever they did, they usually either do some kind of posing, but in a way that's usually not couple-like at all, or they do stand there with they're arms around each other, but never in a couple-way either, it's always looks just like the mandatory arms around each other you tend to do whenever you have to take a picture with someone and you're supposed to add a friendly/familiar vibe to it, the whole you-do-it-cause-you-gotta-thing again. And that's all they usually do, there's never any hand holding, loving glances to each other, or even a quick kiss on the cheek for the photographers or whatever like famous couples tend to do at public events, they don't seem to do that ever. Also, a lot of their 'private pictures' just have such an almost overly staged vibe too it, so really, who says that this is not what this always was, staged? A lot of times it really just seems like they wanted to serve up proof that they were hanging out together again, and honestly, maybe these two really are in love in some way and it just presents itself in a rather weird way, and if that's really what it is and they do get married someday or something, I'm happily willing to apologize to the two and wish them well, but this not even being a real relationship in the first place could also explain why Cam never really seemed too in love with L at any point, not even after almost two years with her now, because maybe he really just isn't and never was at

any point. It could also explain why L usually seems more into it than him, like who says Cam wasn't hired to date her to up her profile for example, and maybe she just puts way more effort into it than him cause she gets more out of it cause he's the already very famous one and she still needs to get there. Besides, look at what she's like in all of her other social media footage that doesn't include Cam, be it her with friends, her sisters, and also in the majority of her modeling pics and videos: L's always shown in a very good, highly cheerful, super smiley, happy mood, practically every time she does anything she's like this, so that very much seems to be her angle, how she sells herself in public as a model, she's the always happy, brightly smiling, hot and sweet little girl, one of those classic model stereotypes that's not only very popular, but very easily sells with the male audience, and also with many girls who look up to/want to be models. So maybe the reason why L always seems way more into it whenever she's hanging out with Cam is cause that's just how she's always acting, it's her public image, maybe it's her job to show herself like this, no matter what. And now I know you will say, well if this is a publicity stunt, why doesn't Cam put a lot more effort into it, and he's a very good actor after all, wouldn't this look way more convincingly romantic then? But, if he was just hired to be with her or something for her sake, maybe he just doesn't put too much effort into this cause he can't be bothered to do more, and maybe the way he's acting when he's around her is all that's expected of him, so that's what he's rolling with, he puts a smile on at times, but other than that, he's just there because well, he's gotta be with her, so what choice does he have, and maybe he's just a little too obvious about it at times.

Creatures from Folklore: Slavic Region A-D

You ever need different creatures to base things off of, or just want some legends for a setting? Or heck, you ever just want to chuck a creature at someone and say you’ll figure it out? Well, do I have the posts for you. This one will focus on the Slavic Region but I’ll make more at a later date

Ala are considered to be demons of bad weather in several folklore, including that of Bulgarians, Macedonians, and Serbs. Their main purpose is to lead thunderclouds that produce hail towards fields, vineyards, or orchards to either destroy the crops or to loot and take them. They are very voracious and really like to eat children. Though one shouldn’t assume they limit their tastes to Earth, no. They sometimes try to devour the sun and moon which lead to eclipses and if they succeed it means the end of the world. People who encounter one may find their mental and physical health as well as their lives at risk. It is, however, possibly to gain her favor by approaching with trust and respect. These good relationships can be very beneficial since she (the ala) can make those with her favor wealthy and save their lives if they are in danger. Ala can take on many different forms: black wind, giant creatures with no distinct form, a monster either humanlike or snake like witha  huge mouth, a female dragon, a raven, various human and animal shapes. Ala can also possess people’s bodies. They live in the clouds or in lakes, springs, hidden remote places as well as caves, inhospitable mountains, forests, or even a huge tree. Usually hostile towards humans, they have powerful enemies capable of defeating them like the dragons.

Alkanost have an incredible voice, capable of making anyone who hears her song might forget everything in their search for paradise. A creature of good who resides in the garden of the gods or whatever version of heaven required, the alkanost has the head and bust of a woman and the rest of the body is that of a bird. Sometimes this creature lays eggs which assist in the changing of winter to spring. Basically she wouldn’t sit on her eggs just dump them into the Ocean-Sea and when they reached the bottom the weather would turn fair. Though i think that takes her out of the running for parenting awards.

Anchutka is a small malevolent spirit, residing most often in water or a swamp. Even without wings, it is capable of flight. One of its nicknames is the one without heels. This is a common theme to look for, as oftentimes evil forces have a limp. Though in some storied this spirit has lost their heels because they got bitten off by a wolf. This spirit is often a sidekick to a water spirit called Vodyanoy, and as such you should never say its name aloud since it will always show up.

Aspid, a type of dragon with a beak and other birdlike elements, resides primarily in the mountains, preferring solitude. When it invades a region, nearly always it caused universal devastation.

Baba Yaga: I’m pretty sure a lot of people know about Baba Yaga, the witch who lives in a hut with chicken legs and goes around in a mortar and pestle. She does carry a broom though, but she only uses it to sweep away her tracks.

Bannik is a spirit who rarely does any good for anyone. A mischievous spirit that has the appearance of an old man with long claws, he’s a spirit that inhabits the banya (steamhouse). Whenever people bathed in the banya, they would always leave on the third or fourth session to let Bannik have his privacy. They would leave him offerings of soup and regularly thank him. Bannik had the power to tell the future and if asked a question he would softly touch the askers back if it was a good future or flay it if it was a not so good future. Oh and Bannik, when angry, would claw off the skin of those who annoyed him. The banya was also the place of Russian childbirth, so there were measures taken to keep him from interfering. Part of the midwife’s job was to keep him away. And with good reason. Legends say that he ate or flayed children. So therefore the midwife would dip stones in the water and throw them in the corner to distract the steamhouse spirit.

Bauk hide in dark places and holes and abandoned houses. There they wait to grab, take away, and devour their victims. They have a clumsy gait and can be scared away by light and noise.

Babay, possibly the same thing as the bubak, isn’t often described so children will come up with what is most terrible for them. But despite this, Baby has been described as a black and crooked old man. When he is descibed he tends to have some traits such as muteness, lacking arms, or walking with a limp. He carries with him a bag and a cane. Baby lives in a forest or a swamp or a garden only to come out at night to walk the streets and scoop up the children he meets. He will walk close to windows and watched the children sleep. If they aren’t he’ll scare them with noises. Or sometimes he even hides under kids beds to take them away if they get up.

Błędnica is a forest demoness, who leads people astray before leaving her victims alone in the midst of the forest to die of starvation or be eaten by animals. She is usually described as a young and pretty girl. The only way to chase her away is to use strong spells or to sacrifice something at home or during your hunt.

Blud is a fairy in Slavic mythology. An evil deity who causes disorientation and leads a person around and around aimlessly.

Bukavac lives in lakes and pools, coming out at night to make a loud noise. A six-legged monster with gnarled horns, it would jump people and animals and strangle them.

Bubak is often represented as a scarecrow with a skeleton as frame, which is connected with darkness, it is a type of boogeymen used to scare children. The skeleton often is describes as wearing a heavy black coat where it hides the children it steals.

Cikavac, a mythical creature from Serbian mythology and it kinda feels like a basilisk but way weirder. This thing is a bird that has a long beak and a pelican-like sack. You can acquire one at the low low price of your sanity and clear face. For you see, in order to get one, you need to take an egg from a black hen which a woman now needs to carry under her armpit for 40 days ( is now a good time to note that chicken eggs hatch after 21 days or so) and one cannot confess, cut nails, wash their face, or pray. After that the cikavac would suck the honey from other people’s beehives and suck milk from other peoples cows and then bring it back to their owner. It would fulfill its owner’s wishes and it would allow its owner to understand the animal language.

Chort, a demon or a humanlike spirit in Slavic folk tradition.  They are not exactly evil characters. Yes they try to trick people into selling them their souls in exchange for useless gifts. Yes those people are carried off into hell. But they are sometimes tricked into doing such things as building castle walls in a day. Sometimes is depicted as trying to bring evil characters to hell. A small, hairy man with a tail, horns, and one or two hooves. But due to shapeshifting abilities, the chort is able to appear in nicer forms and tries to trick people while in them. Though these transformations aren’t and can’t be complete, so there’s a way to know if one is dealing with a chort whether it be by small horns in curly black hair or a hoofed leg hidden within high boots. Though they share similarities, a chort is not the devil.

Čuma, aka kuga, is a personification of the plague in Serbo-Croation myths. Typically appears as an old woman wearing white, though in some cases has been depicted as a young woman. Direct mention of them were avoided and were usually referred to by godmother or aunty. According to belief, they lived in a far away land where they came from to infect people. Due to their hatred of dirtiness, if they found a dirty household they would be eager to infect it. Due to this, if a plague appeared,every house and its occupants must be thoroughly cleansed. In addition one could make offerings to of food, clean water, basil, and a comb.

Domovoi are household protectors, generally seen as kind spirits though they would harass the family they protect if said family was rude or unclean. This usually took the form of pulling small pranks until the family corrected their behavior. While domovoi are shape shifters, most depictions show them as small, bearded masculine creatures which are reminiscent of hobgoblins. In order to complete his chores and to fulfill his duty of protecting the house, the domovoi would assume the shape of the head of the household, sometimes working in the yard while the real head of household was asleep. (Guess spirits don’t have to worry about identity theft charges). They were also capable of turning into animals, rarely taking the form of a dog or a cat. Another facet of the domovoi was their ability to act as an oracle. Predictions are as follows

Dancing and laughing= Good fortune would come

Rubbed the bristles of a comb= a wedding would happen soon

Extinguished candles= Misfortune would fall upon the household.

Dziwożona, a type of female swamp demon from Slavic mythology, sometimes called Mamuna or Bognika, who lived in the thickets near rivers and streams and lakes. Thought to appear with foul weather around trees and swamps, they are known for being malicious and dangerous, and usually were previously living humans. Several types of people would be at risk of turning into one after death, such as: midwives, old maids, unmarried mothers, pregnant women who die before giving birth, and abandoned children who were born out of wedlock. Some depictions include an ugly, old woman who had a hairy body, long straight hair, and I quote “breasts so huge she uses them to wash her clothes”. I don’t know what that actually means and I don’t want to find out. She also wore a red hat with a fern twig attached. In case she wasn’t weird enough, she’d watch women with their little children.  Just chilling around making the kid sick and making schemes to get the mother away from the kid when she’d replace the kid with one of her own, a foundling/changeling.

Grantaire’s bar is on the floor, but Javert’s bar is at the bottom of the Seine XD. 

And yee!  To me it’s less that Javert/Valjean and Grantaire/Enjolras specifically are parallels, as much as..... they’re both part of a wider trend throughout the novel. There’s this repeated relationship dynamic where characters who consider themselves grotesque and “misérable” start worshiping another character as an ideal— and then destroy/ kill themselves in the process of that worship. 

Like Jean Valjean’s worship of Cosette: 

“Jean Valjean watched these ravages with anxiety. He who felt that he could never do anything but crawl, walk at the most, beheld wings sprouting on Cosette.”

Vs terminally Ill Fantine’s worship of Cosette:

“I have been a sinner; but when I have my child beside me, it will be a sign that God has pardoned me. While I was leading a bad life, I should not have liked to have my Cosette with me; I could not have borne her sad, astonished eyes. It was for her sake that I did evil, and that is why God pardons me. I shall feel the benediction of the good God when Cosette is here. I shall gaze at her; it will do me good to see that innocent creature. She knows nothing at all. She is an angel, you see, my sisters. At that age the wings have not fallen off.”

Vs Grantaire’s worship of Enjolras

“The toad always has his eyes fixed on heaven. Why? In order to watch the bird in its flight.

And Eponine’s strange self destructive love for Marius has shade of this— she refers to herself as “the devil,” and a “dog,” as if she’s subhuman, and obsesses over Marius as a symbol of the life she hasn’t been allowed to have.

And then there’s obviously ….whatever on earth is going on with Javert in Derailed. XD Descibing Jean Valjean as some kind of impossibly holy monster, comparing him to angels and Jesus Christ, while describing himself in these beast-like terms as  “a wolf who finds its prey, and a dog that finds its master again” and etc etc etc. 

And beside Jean Valjean glorified he beheld himself, Javert, degraded.

And this is only tangentially related but when it comes to specific character foils, I’m personally way more passionate about the parallels between Eponine and Javert's self-destructions, than between Grantaire and Javert's— and I think the Eponine/Javert parallels are far more intentional on Hugo’s part! Though I'm still not completely sure about what he was doing with it.

I know other people have talked about this before, but I ramble about it every time I have an excuse because it's like! The way Javert and Eponine "trade deaths." The way Eponine repeatedly talks about drowning herself in the Seine, and Javert is supposed to die by being shot at the barricades— but then Eponine is shot at the barricades, while Javert drowns himself in the Seine. Eponine is the quote “daughter of a wolf” who makes herself the “guard dog” of Marius, while Javert is the quote “dog son of a wolf” who ultimately becomes “a dog that has found its master again”/“the watch dog that licks the intruder’s hand”  towards Jean Valjean. Again I'm still not fully sure what Hugo was doing with that parallel (though I've rambled about it a lot) but it iS my current favorite "relationship between two Les Mis characters who almost never interact."

The point is. I guess Romantic authors really loved it when characters destroyed themselves in questionably healthy ways out of a weird combination of self-loathing and admiration

Do you prefer today's trends/styles, or ones from the past? Both have awesome stuff, there’s no need to pick. I’m really into the mom jeans of the 90s, but I also like the yellow trend that’s been going on recently.

Being too cold or too hot? I’d rather be shivering but be comforted with a thick blanket, than sweat bullets and have absolutely no way to cool myself down.

Uploading music to your iPod, or buying CDs? Depends. I used to buy the CDs of my favorite artists then just download the other music I’m not as passionate about.

I don’t know if that has happened yet.

What was the worst day of your life like?

So far my worst day was when I wasn’t accepted into my school paper in high school and I spent like 18 hours crying my eyes out. I liked writing and was accepted for my portfolio, but people thought I was too shy to fit the group’s dynamic and ended up getting booted. There are quiet writers too, assholes.

If you ever have kids one day, what you you name them?

Too early for this lol I’ve only had name picked out - Olivia.

What's one thing that will bring you out of your worst mood no matter what?

My dog. FOR SURE.

Who's the most annoying person you've ever encountered?

Jem, someone from my college who thinks she’s close with me but I really do not like her at all.

If you could grow up to be like anybody, who would it be?

I don’t believe in having role models. I just want to be the best version of myself.

If you could change something about yourself, what would it be?

My mental health could be mental healthier.

What's your favorite inspirational/famous quote? I don’t depend on these either. Describe your dream ice cream sundae (unlimited toppings): Meh, I don’t like sundaes. Just scoops would be fine with me. What comes to mind first when you think of your favorite color? I have no idea why this is what I remember, but it was the day I went shopping for school supplies and got myself a pink clipboard, pink pencil case, pink expander, and pink highlighters. I think it’s because it was that day where I had to acknowledge that pink was in fact, unironically, my favorite color HAHAHA What's something in your life that you once hated but came to like? ^ The color pink. And chicken curry. What's something in your life that you once liked but came to hate? Cooked salmon. There was one phase my mom made it almost everyday and I just got sick of it. I refuse to eat salmon to this day unless it’s sashimi or in sushi. If you could stop any chaos/problem in our world today, what would it be? This fucking pandemic. 2020 CAN’T CONTINUE BECAUSE OF YOU. What would be the best way to die, in your opinion? Peacefully, in sleep, with no pain. What would be the worst way to die? Falling off a cliff (or anywhere high) and landing on a boulder EUGH I cringe at it. Also getting impaled. AND plane crashes. If you could give your room a free makeover, what would you do to it? I’d make it look spacier by moving the bed to the wall so there’s a lot of free space in the middle. I’d also add a desk, work chair, and a lamp so I can study there. If you could have an unlimited amount of anything, what would it be? The number of years my dog would live. What's one thing that you like that would probably surprise your friends? They know I like punk rock in general but I haven’t shared any of the music with them. It would definitely surprise them. Out of everything in the world, what holds the most meaning to you? Stability.

Actually Jounouchi is more or less on the same page as me re: Honda being barely worth saving, as he flashes back to the ahem ACTUAL PLOT and the person who’s in danger for reasons that are not her own stupid fault...

It makes total sense that Jou is thinking about Mai and I’m glad we’re making an effort to remember her, but god, splicing in the real, actually interesting plot in the middle of the Big Five bickering about their STUPID fucking virtual reality kidnapping jape just throws into sharp relief just how low-quality this filler arc is and how it’s really just coasting on the actually interesting shit from Kaiba’s backstory.

This is pretty hilarious to me because they keep using “ooh” in the subtitles but actually the monkey noises he’s making are like “kiki” (Monkeys in Japanese are descibed as saying uki uki / ウキウキ  or kiki /  キキー)

Jounouchi draws Harpy Lady and Harpy’s Feather Duster and uses them to clear the field of the fucking entire ocean (look at how much water there is in that previous screenshot!!)

So, I’m doing the playlist-tag! I’ve been studying for so long, but I took this opportunity to procrastinate haha. Thank you so much for tagging me, @vishcount !! Your playlist is beautiful, the way you descibed your thoughts and how you relate them to Namjoon. Really touching <3 I’ve taken songs that I currently listen a lot to and that accompany me through the days and weeks. I left BTS-songs out on purpose, since it’s kinda obvious I listen to them. I described seven of my chosen songs with Bangtan’s personality, mostly going by the vibe and feeling of it, not the lyrics. The remaining three are just my personal picks. And I noticed how angsty and emo I am haha. 

one - Sunsetz by Cigarettes After Sex

Taehyung This song sounds like its name. It gives me feeling of endless dreamy summer-nights, colourful pastel skies and the blinking lights of the city. Beautiful and endless like Taehyung, nostalgic and dreamy in its soul. In my opinion it fits Taehyung less because of the lyrics, but more due to it’s calm and melodic vibe. It’s melancholic yet makes me feel less alone, allows me to breathe and close my eyes.

two - rain bird by Code Kunst (feat. Tablo and Colde)

Yoongi This reminds me of sleepless nights, a deep and aching feeling in my chest when I see the sky growing brighter in the morning despite not having gotten any rest. Yet it’s so comforting in sound, like heavy rain on a dull day. Since I relate to Yoongi on many personal levels, I could imagine him appreciating the song as much as I do, making us feel understood and less alone. Also we all know how much he loves Tablo (i’m obsessed because of you, thanks yoongs)

three - Cigarettes by OFFONOFF (feat. Tablo, MISO)

Jungkook This song feels like youth to me. Hanging around with your friends, roaming the city or just have conversations at home until the sun rises again. A feeling of belonging, dreamy and young like Jungkook himself. Not without worries, but feeling lighter when in company of those you love. Feeling a bit invincible and not giving a fuck about what happens in the morning, just enjoying the moment of forgetting the world.

four - Dear TV by Tablo

Namjoon I know there’s a lot of Tablo but pls bear with me. This song is sharp and witty like Namjoon. Strong with it’s words, piercing deep with its heavy rythm. Critical mind, accompanied by eloquent words and a sad melody that speaks of helplessness. Even when we fight back, sometimes we are lost ourselvs. It hits my heart and soul, just like some words that Namjoon has said in the past. Ans just like Yoongi, we know Joon is a Tablo-fanboy as well.

five - Take you on a Cruise by Interpol

Seokjin Everytime I hear the first notes of the guitar, my heart stops. Its strong presence sweeps me along and carries me away. I think this fits Seokjin, because it speaks of some sort of comfort. Like we could escape to a beautiful place where we can forget our worries for a few moments, travel the world. Just like him, it has a powerful vibe that captures me, taking me on a journey with ups and downs.

Jimin Just like Jimin, the melody and the voice is sweet and gentle. Yet when you look closer, you find the raw and relatable lyrics that talk about worries many people face nowadays. How everyone struggles and doubts. It reminds me of Jimin because no matter who you are, you are not alone in your confusion. Be kind and honest, even with the weight you carry. This song accompanied me through nights with people that made me feel less secluded, because we are all alone together.

seven - Shopaholic by Epik High

Hoseok Just like Hobi, the beat is strong and lively. It has a presence that captures my chest, demanding attention. Yet suddenly it changes into a sweet melody, almost dreamy and careless. It is a song with many sides, that’s why I think it fits Hoseok. It can be strong and sharp, voicing its opinion without a care, but also whimsical and uplifting. Please neither underestimate Hobi nor the song. Everytime I listen to it, I get swept away, immersed. 

eight - Bologna by Wanda

Since I live in Vienna currently, this song has a special meaning to me. After Falco, this is the only Austrian music I listen to. It reminds me of hot and dry summers by the river, on balconies when I drink with people close to me. A certain carelessness, it smells of beer and cigarettes and scented candles. It sounds like crowded bars, dim light and loud chatter. Going to bed when the sun wakes up again.

nine - NMRPM by Gazzelle

This was recommended by a dear new friend of mine, so I hold it very close to heart. Listening to this makes me long for travelling in the south, visiting the sea, try out new things and fight against heat and sun. Pastel sunsets, that burn the sky before turning soft like cottoncandy and baroque-paintings. Everything feels like eternity and also kinda sad. Yet I feel happy and comforted when I listen to it, like maybe one day I could do all those things I dream of.

ten - All Day All Night by SHINee

I guess this is the only upbeat song on my playlist, oops. Since heavy nostalgia is bound to SHINee, I always feel emotional when listening to them. Considering what happend in December, I am so proud of what they are doing now. The song feels fresh and experimental, like taking me on a journey underwater and up in the clouds. The melody has been stuck in my brain for the past few weeks, it sort off took over one entire part of my brain. It also gives me hope. Hope we all need in this time, on this world and in our life.
