Garrett stood dumbfounded and yet relieved as the blazing flames vanquished within seconds of covering his body. Gasping, he held his shaking hands out to see not one ounce of burned or boiled skin, nor had his clothing even been the least bit singed. He then, in panic, began patting his face and hair, finding it all in tact.
"What in the jinky... ass....fuck!!!" he shouted and kicked the gas can like a football with his vampire force, hurling it far into the woods.
"AMARA!!" Garrett howled into the broad open countryside to the Seelie Queen. "Get your short faerie ass out here! That's right. I called you short! What are you going to do about it, because you certainly cannot KILL ME! You know how I know, besides the obvious fact that I'm not a burnt gooey marshmallow right now? because last night I had my usual evil man tv dinner for my last meal and then I drank his blood after he died...and guess fucking what?? Ding ding ding! Heeeeere's GARRETT! I'm still a dead man walking! I know you can hear me Annabelle wannabe because your stupid little birds, bugs and the trees will nark on me!" he continued on his mocking rant with his arms stretched out wide, furrowed brows, fire engine red eyes and a grimace as he turned in circles.
There was nothing but silence for miles that his keen vampire ears could pick up.
"What are you waiting for huh??? I know what you did last summer! ok..well, this winter! with your little protection mark you put on me!"
Still, the silence was deafening and it enraged him even more.
"Fuck me...I've watched too many horror flicks." he snarled and stomped back into the cabin, damn near breaking the wooden steps with his angered strength.
Garrett stormed about the cabin, the old floor creaking beneath him as he guzzled one of the two bottles of whiskey he took from the dead man. He wasn't sure why because he certainly could not drink himself to death....but he could get shit faced and that was now his new plan.
After a night of drinking and plotting other ways to off himself, Garrett gave up as the twilight hours were leaving and breaking dawn was slowly on the rise. He plopped down on the antique couch, feeling depressed as he held an almost empty bottle in his hand. A vast cloud of dust puffed into the air upon his powerful impact which snapped one of the hand crafted legs off and it went spinning across the floor.
"Ruh Roh Raggy." he jested in his best Scooby voice and laughed so hard that he tipped over on his side in his inebriated state due to the now slanted couch.
Garrett was now face to face with his faithful guitar resting against the coffee table. He clumsily swiped it up and sat in silence to think of what he was going to play...or attempt to play, for he knew it was going to make the wolves howl in agony and also break his heart. It would be about you. It was always about you.
And of course, he chose a Bon Jovi song as he began to play, changing up a few words here and there in his poetic maudlin.
"This Romeo is bleeding but you can't see his blood. It's nothing but some feelings that this old vampire kicked up. It's been raining since I left you, now I'm drowning in your blood. You see, I've always been a fighter but without you, I give up. I can't sing a love song like the way it's meant to be. Well, I guess I'm not that good anymore but baby, that's just me. And I will love you, baby, always. And I'll be there forever and a day, always. I'll be there 'til the stars don't shine, 'til the heavens burst and the words don't rhyme and I know when I die, you'll be on my mind and I'll love you, always. Now your haunting face that you left behind are just memories of a different life. Some that made us laugh, some that made us cry, one that made me have to say goodbye. What I'd give to run my fingers through your hair, to touch your lips, to hold you near. When you say your prayers, try to understand, I've made mistakes, I'm just a man. When Narcisse holds you close, when he pulls you near, when he says the words you've been needing to hear, I wish I was him with these words of mine to say to you 'til the end of time that I will love you baby, always and I'll be there forever and a day, always. If you told me to cry for you, I could. If you told me to die for you, I would. Take a look at my face, there's no price I won't pay to say these words to you. Well, there ain't no luck in these loaded dice, but baby if you give me just one more try, we can pack up our old dreams and our old lives. We'll find a place where the sun still shines. And I will love you, baby, always........"
"Just say the word baby." he muttered and he closed his eyes, tears streaming down his cheeks as he set the guitar down, remembering your secret code to take you away.
How he had hoped you and him really could go away together someday and just be happy, Leean too. But he knew you wouldn't want her in a vampire world and he couldn't blame you, for he didn't even like it or himself even. He just couldn't get over you seeing him like you did that night, his true form, although your sexy spitfire self would argue and tell him his true form was the man sitting there right on that broken couch, just as he was broken.
Garrett smiled and pictured your face as he laid his head back on the lopsided couch and spoke to you in a fading voice before drifting off into much needed sleep and sobering up.
"I'm your Tommy and you're my Gina, but all I am doing now is living on a prayer.
Garrett's singing traveled through your dream again and then you heard him speak, startling you awake.
"Garrett???" you gasped as you swiftly sat up to see Lola feeding Leean the magical Mirkwood water and the sun shining in the windows.
"Josie? Another dream?"
"I...I...how did...I don't remember falling asleep and..."
Your hands went to cover your face as you began crying, remembering what happened.
"It's not true...it can't be true.." you sobbed. Once again you were mourning someone you loved and you didn't know if you could live through it again, for you were still in mourning over Thranduil and it was all just too much.
Lola brought Leean to you as she sat beside you. "Maybe your visions are just like your dreams sometimes? Maybe they aren't what they appear to be?"
You took Leean and cuddled her so tight. Her little heart shaped lips curled into a smile at the vision of your face and her father's moonstone eyes danced in yours as she squealed in delight.
"Oh my little one, momma loves you so much." you told her and kissed her tiny perfect nose, trying to hold back any more tears after you realized what you had just called her.
You began to breast feed her and tried to focus on her face and not the haunting flashbacks of Garrett burning to death. You called to him over and over in your mind, but as usual, there was silence. How did you just hear him singing again? Was it solely just a dream and not him coming through? Something didn't feel right.
Your eyes caught sight of the Bon Jovi album on the desk that had felt like fire last night when you picked it up. You carried Leean with you and went back to it, hesitantly reaching out to touch it again. As you did, it was now cool to the touch and it surprisingly had not been damaged, just like when you had thrown it.
You placed your palm over it and closed your eyes, hoping to see another vision, hoping to see him alive....but again...there was nothing....although you faintly could hear the song again...you knew it too, but it wasn't on this album.
"Lola...can you change her and lay her down please?"
Lola did as you asked and you went to your cloak, pulling out the letter Garrett had given Selene to give to you. God, if you could only find Selene and talk to her. Surely she would know something by now.
Your eyes stung as you read it again, hoping you could find some clue in it that you missed before. A clue...it made you think of Daphne from Scooby Doo and you lightly giggled, thinking of how he always told you that she reminded him of you and always had to add that you were much hotter though.
"This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I am leaving Devil's Island. You will not see me again. You know you and I could never be and I cannot bear to look you in the eyes again after you saw the real me. I would rather be truly dead than to feel this kind of pain. Hopefully I can make that happen. The dumbest thing I ever did was fall in love with you but it's the happiest I have ever felt. I will carry the memories of you with me until my last breath. I am so sorry I have ever hurt you. I love you. Forever. Goodbye my little one....- Roman"
Jesus, how did you not see it before? Well, you did, but...you didn't really believe he would try to end his life. Then there was the fact that he signed his real name, for it was not Garrett writing those words.
You began to feel hot and nauseated. Were you feeling what he felt by touching his letter?? It couldn't be...it just couldn't be true! But then again, you had thought the same about Thranduil too...and it was. It was very true.
You sat down, feeling as if you were going to pass out.
"Josie?? Do you want me to get Haldir?" Lola asked in quick concern.
You remembered Haldir's words last night. That he was truly sorry. Like hell he was. He was probably down in the cellar, indulging in the wicked ale in celebration. Narcisse was probably with him too, sharing a toast and then they would head out to the archery and shoot arrows at a bullseye of Garrett's face. The thought made you roll your eyes.
"No...he does not care that Garrett is.....no damn it. I won't say it. I am going to go find out for myself...somehow."
"What? Go where Josie?? You mustn't leave or even go outside with Harker bei...."
"Fuck Harker. Something is wrong and Garrett needs me. I should have known it before." you proclaimed and began quickly dressing.
"At least tell me where you are going so..."
"So you can tell Narcisse and Haldir? They don't give a shit about him Lola."
"But they give s shit about you! and so do I! and so does Leean!" she snapped, shocking you.
You quickly hugged her. "I...I'm sorry. I know you do and I love you Lola. I just need to try and somehow find Selene, or Amara even. I feel that Garrett is why I saw the Seelie here yesterday. You know, my intuition and all."
"But...the Seelie Queen...her portal is in the dark forest...Josie, you cannot do this!"
"Lola...have you no faith in my powers? Did you forget I took Harker on all by myself yesterday?"
"And you only got away because you had help, which had scared him off."
"I could have taken him. The big bad wolf is no match for the rage that lives inside of little red riding hood."
"Josie...if you go...I will have no choice but to inform the others, even if it makes you angry with me."
"Then so be it...tell them. Garrett has saved my life more times than I can count...and your Legolas too!! I have to help him. He has no one but me."
"But... what if he really is dead?"
"No, no no..." you huffed and walked away, continuing on as you sat to tug your boots on. "But he will try again. I think Amara's mark protected him. I will not sit by and let the people I love be hurt. I was given my gifts for a reason Lola and it's damn time I use them and be who I'm meant to be, just like Sarah said. I will fight just as my King would fight for what he loves."
You then stopped to look in the mirror on your way out, speaking to yourself.
"To the gypsy that remains, she faces freedom with a little fear. Well, I have no fear. Thranduil my love...you see your gypsy...I still see your bright eyes...give me your strength."
Thranduil mumbled strange words in his sleep before opening his eyes to find himself in his bed with a splitting headache and no memory of how he got there or what happened.
"She is dancing away from you now. She was just a wish. Her memory is all that is left for you now. I see my gypsy."
The wicked wine made a sensible answer to him as he glanced at the three empty carafes.
He arose for the new day, not realizing the words he just spoke, and took his morning swim, accompanied by a tall glass of wine from a reserved carafe to ease his throbbing mind.
"Legolas. Are you there my son?"
The Prince was just packing up the boats after the night's rest when his father's voice rang through his mind loud and clear.
"I am here Adar. Is all well?"
"All will be well when you have fulfilled my request of returning my wife and child to their rightful places. Where are you now?"
"We are preparing to depart on the River Running. I estimate our arrival in Dorwinion by the next day's end."
"Very well. Do not fail the task my son. I expect what belongs to me to be in my sight and reach by the next week's end."
"Task? Is that what your wife and child are to you? You speak as if they are material belongings."
"Is that not what they are? Just as you are."
"They are not property, nor am I."
"I do not time for this Legolas or your weak sentimental heart. Do as you have been commanded. Insubordination will not be tolerated."
"You may be my father and my King, but you do not control my heart." Legolas fumed and shut Thranduil off.
"Legolas. Is everything alright?" Aragorn asked, noticing the elf's turmoil.
The prince was lost in thought for a moment to answer, for his father's behavior was still not sitting right with him, even after Thranduil had claimed he was healed.
"I am uncertain, for I am uncertain if I am doing what is right."
"You speak of King Thranduil's orders to bring the Queen and child back to Mirkwood?"
"Yes. Also, I am wary to even inform her of his survival. Something is amiss. I can feel it. I do not want to cause her more harm, for if my father is still under Jareth's mind conditioning, it will do just that."
Aragorn placed his hand on Legolas's shoulder and spoke to him with all sincerity.
"You must make a choice my friend and trust your heart, for as you just told your father, he does not control that part of you."
Legolas looked upon the kingly ranger with great trust of his wise words.
Their bonding moment was interrupted by Boromir appearing from the forest in a fraught.
"Orcs...orcs are upon us!"
"Well in that case, let us go hunt some orcs." Aragorn grinned, as did Gimli and Legolas, then all ran off to eliminate the tracking threat.
As Thranduil exited his pool, exasperated over his son cutting him off, he quickly selected his garments and groomed himself to go verify that all was being attended to by Tauriel regarding Raven.
His attention was caught by the gems laying upon the desk, yours and Jareth's, which suddenly sparked his memory of seeing you kissing Narcisse. There was no anger and jealousy this time, only a stronger desire to see you suffer as he locked your gem in a box and stuffed it away... out of sight, out of mind. The citrine, he then slipped upon his finger for it to get used to it's new owner.
The King made his way through his halls feeling quite unstoppable today, he heard Raven's squabbles with Tauriel as he neared the she elf's chamber. Upon entry, the vision of the dhampir tethered to the bed by all fours in iron shackles was quite the pleasureful image. Tauriel had chained her up after Raven had passed out the night prior, for she knew there was no other way to rid of the foul fetus when Raven had power.
"Well done Tauriel. Putrid as a dhampir is, powerless as she should be. Tell me, how did you come about the citrine and why were you concealing it from me?"
Raven saw the ring sparkle on his finger and the difference in his eyes, that being of Jareth's evil.
"Take it off!! You must take it off!! It will make you crazy like Jareth because your heart has been blackened by him!" Raven pleaded with eyes of fright as she hopelessly struggled, weakening by the minute from the iron.
Even Tauriel's eyes were of concern as she noticed the ring and changed demeanor of the Elvenking, which was not for the better. It was even in the way he held himself and moved about...like a slithering snake.
"It is futile to squirm and squawk. The deed will soon be done and then I will reclaim you at my side. Tauriel...finish it. I will then expect your presence at my throne for the meeting, for many changes are in need of addressing."
"Y..yes my lord..." she replied with a shaky tone, which Thranduil instantly noticed as he snapped his head towards her.
"Your resistance is one of them! Do you take me for a fool? My orders stand and they will be fulfilled, or I will fulfill your new destiny of eternity in my dungeons to rot."
Tauriel lightly gasped and gulped as tears stung her eyes, for she now knew the King had been fully taken over by Jareth's evil.
She stood firm and swallowed her tears. "Yes my lord Thranduil. Thy will be done."
"Nooo!! Are you both insane?? Do you not see what has happened?? Jareth has complete control of you now with that ring on your finger! It is his plan!! You destroyed his kingdom, now he will destroy yours! He has you trapped!"
"The only one that is trapped my dear dhampir, is...you." Thranduil smirked with a snicker as he confidently left the room.
"Tauriel, you can't do this! Please!! It is a child! If it were yours, would you let this happen???" Raven begged after Thranduil was out of sight.
"I...I am sorry...you know as well as any other the price I will pay at the King's wrath, especially now."
"But it will be far worse if you do it because Jareth wants his child! He told me so!"
"Then why would Jareth do this?? Besides, you and I both know the life this child will have if raised by that monster. This is for the best. I am sorry. I truly am. I do not want to do this, but I must."
"You selfish bitch!! You're doing this for yourself. Karma will find you. Jareth will find you. I will find you!!! No iron bars will keep him or his army of the dead out of this realm. You are no better than the goblin king!"
"Since when do you care for a child??? After what you have done to the dozens in Lake Town??"
"Since it is MY child! I am done explaining myself for what happened. I was a child myself!"
"Your child will be a threat to all of middle earth. Jareth will claim it and it will become a monster just like him. Keep wasting your breath and strength all you like. I am going to prepare now."
"No...Nooo NOOO! Somebody help me!!!!" Raven screamed and cried until she unwillingly became faint from exhaustion.
Tauriel mixed up an array of poisonous herbs in a bowl consisting of Belladonna, Silverbane, Wolfsbane and Oleander, in which it became a crimson paste. With tears in her eyes, she spread it about Raven's stomach and began the black magic recital of ominous words. When she was finished, she sat in the chair and cried, knowing it would only be a matter of minutes before it was all over.
And then it was. Tauriel fell out of the chair to her knees, shaking with both fear and rage as she watched a pool of blood seep out of Raven's pants. Before she cold collect herself and clean up the mess, the horns of border breach sounded.
Tauriel ran to the windowless window to see hundreds of elven guard scouring the perimeters of the halls and some heading into the forest. Gasping, she ran off to assist in her duties as captain of the guard, leaving the sleeping dhampir unattended.
Raven awoke to the blurry vision of two figures and muffled male voices, feeling as if she were either drunk or dying. Someone was vigorously rubbing and wiping her stomach with a cloth while she heard the snap of her iron shackles, one by one.
The scents, she recognized. One in particular as that of an unfamiliar vampire smelling of lavender and vanilla, and the other of a warlock she knew very well.
"Raven, can you hear me?" one voice said near her face, his breath smelling of...clover... and then her vision slightly cleared enough to see the eyes of the voice. One was brown, one was blue.
Instantly, she panicked and tried to scream, believing it was Jareth, but a large hand quickly covered her mouth.
"Raven! Shhh, it's me! it's me....Jace."
Her eyes then began to focus and widened in sheer joy. He had came back for her just like he promised.
Raven's attention then drifted to the other figure, the vampire she did not know.
"Who...who is that?" she asked of the tall, dark and handsome vamp with eyes of the ocean and a very distracting stone around his neck of a blushing rose color.
"Shhhh." the one like her whispered as he stared her down, then looked at Jace. "Jace...we must go...now."
"Raven...hold onto me." Jace commanded as he slid his arm under her legs and the other under her back.
She gazed up at him with smitten and stoned eyes. "Are... you going to take me away from this awful place...my..king?"
Jace sweetly grinned. "I am no king, but I will do just that."
Raven's arms gripped the warlock's neck tight as she burrowed her face into his intoxicating neck and he then shot out of the window as the mysterious vampire followed in a flash.
A vast majority of the Mirkwood elves surrounded Thranduil's throne, Tauriel and Feren before him as he paced about it in his scarlet robe with a look of darkness and disappointment upon his face. His voice was flat and sinister as he halted before them, leering down at the two speechless elves.
"How is it that with my two greatest captains and a regiment of highly skilled elven guard allowed two simple enemies to invade my lands and enter my halls, thus taking that of which does not belong to them??"
Thranduil's eyes narrowed at their silence and lowered eyes.
"If the cat does not release one of your tongues, my twin swords will."
"M..my lord...please...the horns sounded. I had to withhold my duties and aid in..." Tauriel swiftly answered, finally finding the courage to speak.
"Your duties were to guard the dhampir! As for the rest of you, there is no way to palliate the incompetence of your simple task in guarding my kingdom!" he snapped and slowly turned to pace about once more as he gathered his temper.
"I am reminded of the orc invasion on my docks many years ago and how thirteen diminutive dwarves escaped my dungeons under the nose of my guards. How convenient that one of those putrid greedy beings was that of your lover...Kili was it? Yes, I do believe that was it. That greed of desiring a lowly elf such as yourself caught up to him in the end, much like it did my son. Your soft spot for others, including the dhampir, is not compatible to the protection of this realm. The question now is, what do I do with you? For I feel there are no persuasive words for you to tell me."
Thranduil placed his arrogant nose in the air and walked off, gracefully wielding his sword and sheathed it, waiting on her reply.
Tauriel's eyes glistened of exasperated tears with the hurtful and intentional mention of Kili. How dare he, after all the hypocritical king had done himself. A king who believed his crown made him errorless, for all he had made was mistakes in his reborn state and then placed the fault on others.
Thranduil slowly turned and crept back to her with eyes of a lion targeting it's prey, serving intimidation as he leaned down, inches from her trembling lips and softly whispered.
"Your audacious tongue is fearless in your mind, but you have seemed to have forgotten that I can hear your thoughts at will, any day, any hour. Even when you sleep. Even the impure ones you have of myself. Maybe we can come to an arrangement to make them a reality this coming night."
Tauriel closed her eyes, letting the tears escape them as she searched for the right words to save her.
"M...mm..my lord...I..I have completed the task you asked of me. Surely that must count for something?"
"Is that so? Well then...you have nothing to fear."
His tone and eyes told her that she did...that she very much indeed had everything to fear.
"Now...Feren. You have been loyal beyond measure in all of your centuries here and are proficient in the responsibilities of supervising and maintaining this kingdom at my absence, as well as my son's, all which you have done commendably, with the exception of the care of my elk. The spider infestation, although not to my standards, has been kept to a manageable minimum. You have fought faithfully at my side in many of battles and destroyed the enemies. Your discernment is why you have remained here and yet, this day, a simple warlock and vampire eludes my people, including you."
"My lord...they...fly. We...cannot."
"We cannot fly? Hmm. It must be because we are ELVES. Tell me Feren, has all of your bows with arrows tainted with dead man's blood malfunctioned?"
"Well, no? my lord. They flew...too high for our reach."
"Oh...so what you are, in layman's terms per se, explaining to me is that it is actually the highly skilled archers that have malfunctioned? If you and my vast army cannot terminate TWO filthy fiends, do tell me how Jareth and his army of the dead can be defeated when they come...and they will come!!"
"Army..of the...dead..my lord? What does that mean?"
Thranduil's eyes fell shut as he heavily sighed and gritted his teeth.
"Not only did you go blind upon my arrival here and upon this day, but now you have gone deaf as well. What good are you to me?? It means that Jareth plans to unleash a weapon so great, it will destroy all before it." Thranduil explained with an ominous tone as he descended his platform.
"I want the watch doubled at our borders, all roads and all rivers, including the top of these halls and trees for air view. Since you are aware elves cannot fly, then be aware that they can climb and jump. If anything moves...kill it. That includes Jace Wayland and Matthew De Clermont. Find the dhampir and return her to me unharmed. No one enters this kingdom...and no one leaves it."
Jareth sat in the ruins of his kingdom that Thranduil had destroyed by dragon fire, knowing what the Elvenking had done to his child. His eyes, full of vengeance, were lost in the view of the dead forest as he twirled his three crystals round and round and round in his hand, for something inside of him had snapped far beyond the evil that he already was.
A part of him knew that Thranduil's revenge was justified, taking all that he loved as he had done to the elf lord, but that did not matter. Thranduil would pay a most dear price, this he vowed, as the wheels in his brain turned like the spheres in his hand. An eye for an eye for a final eye was where it all was at now by Jareth ending the vicious cycle once and for all and destroy all of middle earth, and he would have a child to replace the one taken from him as well.
"I will have the babe." he muttered through his teeth and then headed out to the special place where all had been prepared for the ritual to raise the evil dead by none other than his mind warped brother, Julian.
A pentagram had been displayed on the dusty floor of an old church not far from his labyrinth and the three pages from the book of the dead laid upon the altar, glowing in the candlelight.
"Time is short and it has come dear brother Julian. All will rue the day for those whom have ever crossed me. Like a thief in the night, the worst nightmares of every soul in middle earth will come true and I will take my rightful reign with my brothers and the demons of hell at my side and command. BEGIN!" Jareth howled.
"Yes bother."
Julian gathered the pages and took a seat. Flames formed over his hand as he smiled, swirling it about and then began to translate and read aloud the words of black magic, the blackest of them all.
The names of the dead were spoken and the list was quite long, but it was only a fraction of what would be released upon the world that night.
The sky darkened into a frenzy of Jareth's fellbeasts as wind, thunder and lightning consumed the dark realm in response to Julian's conjuring.
The names Julian vocalized were ones the woodland realm and beyond would personally know, for the Elvenking and all that he held dear, were the goblin king's main targets.
Those that were once evil before death, just as Jareth, would be far more diabolical than the devil himself and those that were of light would faithfully join the army of darkness in the destruction of all before them.
"Caroline, Carrie, Peter, Asher, Alfrid, Darken Rahl, Morwen, Malsha, Malsin, Maldyr, Kili, Viktor, Craven, Sally, Joliel, Kate, Orodreth, Olivia, Oropher, Carandolel, Smaug....."
A beam of fire spawned from the pentagram as a now cloaked Julian prepared to open the gates of hell.
The list from Julian's lips continued even further as he spoke into the blaze, including his four dead brothers and father Jasper, then carried on with Caroline's dead sisters and father as well.
And then....the portal to the world was opened and all of the dead were set free to wreak havoc and hell at their own will.
No dead were spared as hell on middle earth was unleashed, including Jareth's fiery wendigos, his sinister spies and killing machines.
"Go...assist in my take over. Eat drink and be merry! Kill them all! On Dasher, on Donner, on Prancer and Vixen, on Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen! Rise from the ashes!!!" Jareth commanded as he bellowed in malevolent laughter.
"There will be only one king. One king to rule them all!!!"

OK, here we go! I don’t know why anyone would be interested in what I have to say, I’m not a meta person I just like talking. I guess this is just a nice to look back on, if nothing else.
Considering how many times I’ve attempted a rewatch, only to abandon it at some point, this has to be one of my most watched Supernatural episodes. As someone who didn’t get into the show until season 8, I didn’t need the Pilot to draw me in because I was already invested. But looking at it as objectively as I can, I think this is a solid opener. If I’d stumbled across this on TV, I’d have tuned in for the next episode, for sure.
The concept is compelling, the atmosphere is dark and spooky in that specifically mid-2000s way, the characters already have a lot going for them that you know will be interesting to explore. They’ve already fridged two women which is a pretty impressive feat for the first episode of a show. Start as you mean to go on, I suppose…
I always like the ghost/spirit episodes. There’s something so vintage about it. Maybe because I watched a lot of Scooby Doo when I was a kid (not that those were ever actually ghosts but still). I think it was the perfect ‘monster’ to start this show off with.
I also love the early chemistry between Sam and Dean, it’s so juvenile and very much siblings who live to piss each other off. Also like, my blorbo radar would already be going off regarding Dean and his obvious abandonment issues. Like uh oh, I’m already compromised.
Favourite part: When Dean gets arrested and goes from flippant to cautious when the journal turns up. And then Sam doing the fake call to allow him to break him out. I just love the implications of the importance of that journal and also the fact that they’ve 100% done this song and dance before. Also Sam going full freak mode and just driving straight into a house (but poor Baby).
Least favourite part: It feels particularly male-gazey, you know they were going for a specific audience. Sorry you ended up with a bunch of queer weirdos, lads. It is interesting to compare to later seasons, though.
Quote of the episode: “Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cakehole.”
What’s compelling me to keep watching: What killed their mum and Jess? More of the dynamic between Sam and Dean and the friction between their different choices.
Random things I yelled to myself during the rewatch: “Oh my god, they’re babies” “Why does Sam ‘I hate my dad’ Winchester have a photo of his parents on the nightstand but nothing of Dean?” (I know, I know, it’s for the *reveal* but still) “DID THAT SIGN SAY CAS?? Wait no it said Gas, never mind” (the brainrot is real)
Rating: 7/10 – Feels somewhat unpolished but that's part of it's charm and it hits the ground running.
And the award goes to…🏆: All the dumb fucks who tried to burn their lead actors alive. Amazing work.
#spn20rewatch#spn 1x01#is this interesting to anyone but me? unlikely#but i'm sharing it all anyway lolll sorry not sorry

Speaking of Death Battle thoughts on the 2000000000000000000000th repeat of Goku vs Superman? Good? Bad? Or exists?
//Ok, I have a lot to say about it:
//You know how I said that Scooby Vs Courage was my favourite episode of this season?
//It is genuinely at risk of losing it's title, and it's because of Goku Vs Superman 3. Let me break it down:
//Now, I did kind of mention this when I recapped Rick Vs Doctor, but even from the beginning, I was a big defender of the match. When Ben explained why they were doing this again, he made some really great points and convinced me that they had something good in the works.
//And for the people who say that the rerun was pointless, especially since Goku lost again, I need to point out that the SECOND fight was pointless. It happened one series after the first one and seemed to just be made of scrapped notes from the first episode, which, to its credit, I still think holds up today. The controversy surrounding the second episode was a bit intense, but sort of deserved, since the really only good thing about the second fight was Brandon Yates' "Alive".
//As for what makes the most recent episode so great, the analyses for both Goku and Superman are really well done and very respectful to both characters, much unlike the second fight where Goku just got fucked over and Superman got decharacterized like a motherfucker. They do a good job at bringing out both characters best sides and this is what is translated into the fight.
//Unlike the previous two times the two fought on Death Battle, Superman actually plays along with Goku's battle hungry enthusiasm, and the two are pretty chummy throughout the fight despite how they're trying to kill each other. I love it when there's no real animosity between fighters in DB and that they're just trying to test out each other's strength. I also think this shift in motives for Superman is great, because it brings out what I believe is his best side, that being his humility. Whereas in the previous two episodes he was kind of no-nonsense, overly stern and serious and just gave Goku shit for...being Goku, Superman is really nice to Goku in this episode and respects him right until the end, even agreeing to go round 2 with him. So even though the fight ends with Goku losing again, I saw this coming, and I'm at least glad it wasn't a fuck-you death like the last two times.
//Also, what helps is that the voice acting is amazing. Michael Kovach and Xander Mobus are two guys who I respect IMMENSELY, and this episode highlights why. They break off each other well, and Michael's final Kamehameha when Goku goes Ultra Instinct is incredible.
//The animation is the best of the season, bar-none, or at least the best 3D animation. If I talked about everything I liked about it, we'd be here forever, but you can tell the animators pulled out all the stops. The one scene I will draw attention to is when Superman starts to get serious and punches so hard, reality breaks and we see alternate versions of Goku and Superman fighting, like Goku Black fighting Ultraman. I think that was really cool and really clever and paid good attention to the legacy of both the characters.
//Lastly, the post-analysis was very well done. It seems to me that Death Battle really wanted to explain why Superman wins this time instead of just saying, "ugh, he's fucking strong and goku sucks" so they broke it down into categories, and Goku even outmatched Superman in skill. I liked that the fight wasn't a complete and total one-sided beatdown since Goku had a few edges, and that's enough for me.
//If I had to say there were any disappointments with the episode, I have two, and they are extremely minor. For one, I was really hoping that the battle track would be a remaster of Alive from the second fight, but upon reflection, Alive was more of a nitty and gritty and edgy track that suited the more savage mood of the second episode, whereas in this one it's more upbeat and powerful to show just how fun the two were having. So while my expectations were subverted, they were succeeded.
//The other thing I didn't like was how the episode ended. Wiz starts going on a panic and questioning what they're doing before Boomstick snaps him out of it. And the reason this makes me sad is because it feels like Death Battle is trying to justify it's reason for existing to it's audience, which...it shouldn't HAVE to do that. Death Battle exists to paint and show a picture of what would happen if the characters you love were to fight to the death using every ability they have in their arsenal, and use math, science and research to decide who. The people who right the show, in spite of what many people will tell you, are not biased against anybody, and even though they rely on facts to reach their verdicts, it's all about having fun and seeing these crossover fights with two powerful combatants duking it out. That's all there is to it and that's all there needs to be, and it makes me sad and angry to think about how these guys are getting chronic hate for their verdicts from toxic people, since it DOESN'T MATTER who wins! Oh, your fav lost? How sad! MOVE ON! You've got a life to live and if it pisses you off, watch a different series. It just made me sad, that's all.
//Anyway, in summary, top tier episode. 10/10.
//And for those who are curious, here's my current ranking of the Season 10 episodes from best to worst, not including Galactus Vs Unicron (which by the way, I have no say in, I'm not particularly invested in either character, so I don't really care who wins. Subtly rooting for Galactus though.) This season has been absolute fire from start to finish and I love every single episode so far though:
Scooby Vs Courage
Goku Vs Superman
Frieza Vs Megatron
Rick Vs the Doctor
Cole Vs Alex
Bill Vs Discord
Guts Vs Dimitri
Ant-Man Vs Atom
Gojo Vs Makima
Skyrim Vs Dark Souls
Phoenix Vs Raven
Martian Manhunter Vs Silver Surfer
Vader Vs Obito
Stitch Vs Rocket
Killua Vs Misaka.

ok I’m taking a small break from raving about Catradora for a bit to talk about Velma (the new HBOmax show) cause I’ve seen Several videos on my socials (most specifically tiktok) talking about the how's and whys this show doesn’t work and why its currently sitting at a measly 8% on RT with audiences (I know that RT is something to be taken with a grain of salt but when talking about this show I think we can take this rating at face value.)
Now one of the reasons I think this show is failing so hard is cause it tried to “Harley Quinn” the Mystery Gang is the best way to put it. however, the reason why upping the comedy and adult humor was well received with the Harley Quinn show is because these characters (while being ridiculous and over the top) are still recognizable as these characters. Harley Quinn is still a villain turning antihero who's dealing with the fallout of hers and the jokers relationship. Poison Ivy hates people but makes exceptions for those in her life that matter to her. all in all, if you showed me the HBO max show and compared it to the DCEU I’d still be able to recognize that character as Harley Quinn (also I think it came out fundamentally at a time when Harley Quinn content was at an all time high demand (especially after what we received with the first Suicide Squad back in 2016). season 1 of the show came out in 2019 with Birds of Prey and the new Suicide Squad quickly following suit in 2020 and 2021; one of those main movies focuses being About Harley Quinn’s breakup with the joker)
The problem with Velma is that the characters don’t really feel like the same characters that we’ve grown to know and love over the years. it doesn’t feel like they’ve taken existing characteristics of these characters and ampt them up for comedy it feels like they slapped new characteristics onto these characters that don’t fit these characters at all. And we really haven’t had all that much Scooby Doo content come out in recent years (that I’ve noticed) (the most recent from memory that I can recall being the crossover episode with Supernatural which does a much better job at sticking to the characters while being in a more adult show) the big bust for Scooby Doo content I’d argue would be the 2000′s-2010′s when shows like Mystery Incorporated or A Pup Named Scooby Doo were airing (as well as the theatrical releases however I’m not the biggest fan of those, if you like them more power to you but that’s not the point of this) maybe the show would work if they took something like Mystery Incorporated and upped the antics so that it works for a more mature audience and the show Just came out and all but i really don’t see it getting all that much better.
#velma 2023#velma#mystery incorporated#harley quinn#harley quinn show#hbo max#adult show#why doesn't this work#talking about something new#comedy#sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt#this isn't working#why is that

It was against my wishes that I was made to watch the Andor series. I have thoughts.
I'm finding it very hard to discuss because with the entire franchise I feel like it's some sort of topsy turvy alice in wonderland world where we are expected to take very seriously this media that is so simplistic and so devoid of difficulty or nuance or the quintessential greyness and relativity of morals that calling it a series for children is insulting to at least some options of children's media.
I feel bizzare when star wars films (as well as marvel for that matter) are treated and reviewed and discussed as if these stories aren't an equivalent of mass produced plastic mcdonalds toy: utterly generic, simple, inoffensive and lacking any kind of storytelling mastery.
And yet we're at a point when those are not flicks, not something we can agree is fast food of cinema, instead it is treated like something grown adult humans should sit down and discuss as important cultural event of our times. (Not Andor specifically yet, but star wars in general at the very least).
To me, all of this is peppa pig. I cannot take this seriously. I cannot look at those movies and series that are milking themselves for money and are offering the same primitive story over and over and over again and be part of this pretense that this is cinema, that this is for adults. I will not sit with a group of adults and discuss the story and character development in peppa pig. That is not to say peppa pig is inherently worthless! No, I want children of target age to sit down and discuss those things. Learn appropriate level of media comprehension and analysis through appropriate works at appropriate age. Just like I feel star wars franchise in general is meant for pre-teen children, I guess.
And it's bizzare to me not only that the same story and same characters are regurgitated over and over, all of it also has this veneer of seriousness, thoughtfulness, with a pretense of being adult choice of storytelling (and story-listening!). That's the milquetoast liberal message aside even. It's literally the same to me as children's shows getting those grimdark remakes with drugs and sex and incest and rape and murder and abuse added in while it remains a flat, unseasoned, unnuanced story that we are for some fucking reason supposed to sit down and discuss at our lunch breaks because that's apparently what adults consume and discuss.
This is a continuation of that recent tiktok thing about 'not reading a 700 page Russian novel', the battle of anti-intellectualism and snobbism versus lack of curiosity towards anything more challenging than disney. It's disney. It's quintessential disney writing which is not to say the story is necessarily bad: again, for the target audience (which for star wars in its entirety should be in my opinion up to 13 years old) it can be ok. But it's not for adults.
Stat Wars is not for adults. Disney is not for adults. Marvel is not for adults. It doesn't mean it's bad. Graphics are good, yadi yada, spaceahip goes brrrr, it's fine. But I have as much desire as an almost 30 year old to watch or discuss it seriously as I have to watch and discuss peppa pig or spongebob or scooby doo or barbie mariposa.
I'm not even saying it's bad for adults to like children's or teen or young adults' media, keep an eye on it, check it out when it comes out, notice good and bad things about individual pieces, analyze them, admire the art etc etc etc. But the genre and the target of that art should be kept in mind. It should be called what it is: pre-teen sci fi. It should be placed in that category in media libraries, it should be prefaced as such in conversation and when the conversation is about adult fiction, Andor or Star wars (or marvel or disney) should not really take much space in that conversation.
And I'm tired of how much space that primitive writing, those mass produced plastic mcdonalds movies with basic barely liberal messages take up nowadays. I hate that I cannot just say that I don't really check out children's media this days and be understood as someone who doesn't watch marvel or star wars stuff (which is all the same whale anyway).
There's nothing to discuss. Writing is poor, pacing is poor, dialogue is dry, acting is okay (there's not much to act out, everyone had the same expression for the first five episodes), graphics clearly the main point of the whole thing and yeah, I guess, spaceships flying look good.
#the entire franchise is meh#yes the original trilogy as well#it survived solely on the memes#on the delightfull whackiness that has been grimdarked out of it#and I'm fucking hungry to discuss babylon 5 with someone#now that's sci fi#andor#no I'm not tagging it anti-andor#it's my blog#long post

(re)watching Famous 5: on the case
now this is, i believe, a show i saw as a kid when it was on tv. if it is the correct one then i saw it dubbed. this is a show that i have memories from. 4 kids and their dog investigating stuff. if that sounds like scooby doo then you're probably correct. both are stupid old, don't know which on is older though i'm guessing the famous 5 books.
ep 1 The Case Of The Fudgie Fry Pirates
oh fuck yea this is the show i remember. fuck that intro hit like crazy. in part because the audio was too loud. mostly because i remember this song, even if i didn't understand it back in those days. pre good English apparently.
ok, that is NOT the voice i expected. finding some of the dutch dub quickly is harder then i can be bothered to, but i'm guessing the dark haired lady had a lower voice in the dutch dub. this'll take some getting used to. in part also weird as i'm pretty sure i had a massive crush on her. (because cool sporty girl and i've apparently always been an incredibly stereotypical lesbian)
so we have down to earth Jo, rich(?) Eli(?), video and probably tech guy and sports conspiracy guy.
it's the weirdest things that really trigger memories, like the jingle at a scene change. also the aunt is really and i completely forgot her.
vague memories of the enemy, but man do i think it's way better in the origional dub with a strong bri'ish accent (:
"they're pirating movies!!!!" yea... whatever villain would do such a thing?.. me, the answer is me, or at least i watch all this stuff without paying because i don't have an income and the who would be getting my money wouldn't need any more on top of their millions.
little pinset to break out. i was afraid they were going to lock pick the door, but no, it's to take the lock of the door. it would take more time then that, but depending on the door and lock style way more reasonable.
ep2 The Case Of The Plant That Could Eat Your House
rich girl knows how to pick a lock? ...i mean ok i'm trying to learn how to pick a lock but that's not for trying to break out of/into anything. that's just to fuck around with locks... yea no one will believe that will they.
ominous bamboo. i mean yea it can grow stupid quick, but ominous isn't quite what i'd call it. extremely fast growing plant to quickly regrow damaged area... sounds neat, but unless it's easy to overtake for other plants it would just take over.
oh yea the police lady was fun. the fun combo of awesome and delightful.
oh long lost memories: these two snobby kids managed to stick in somewhere. our memory truly is a weird thing. my memory is shit, but i remember so much from this show that wasn't on tv for very long and while i wasn't that big into tv.
only now truly picking up on that they made Jo interracial. as kid you don't notice such things, just that people look different. but it makes people looking different normal which is obviously a really good thing.
the show also has a big part of ladies can be ladies but they can also be badass at the same time. my example will be really showing but think mlp Rarity. yea, girls can love makeup and stuff like that, doesn't stop them from standing up for themselves or being good at sports.
well, that ending made no sense, but about what i'd expect. too many plots do to them all well. also i clearly hear the gesundheit, but i swear i hear something else as well. are they using different versions of bless you after sneezing? if so, neat, if not... why go with the german version? i mean i prefer it as it's just "good health" and means "i wish you good health while acknowledging that you made a loud noise that could even indicate sickness" (just like in dutch) over the english "i speak a magic spell of christianity over you because in the origins of the religion when you sneeze your soul leaves your body and it has to be warded from evil spirits that would take it's place". it's silly when you believe the religion, it's even weirder if you don't. yea, i may start using gesundheit instead in english. less silly that way.
also the dude talking between shows on the English channel this was (i assume) taken from is always so weird. like i know it from the BBC, but i only really know it from after watching gardeners world with my mother which it's linked to in my mind, so having it after a kid show just feels weird.
ep6 The Case Of The Thief Who Drinks From The Toilet
i do appreciate the verities of hobbies they partake in.
"do you have furniture misses X?" "of course." "then i'm afraid you've been robbed." the show has some fun lines like these.
making the vet the villain is a choice. i mean it's not exactly a person a child has to directly deal with. but making the person that chips your pet the villain definitely won't help with the "vaccines are just evil doctors putting microchips in you", though i don't know if morons like them were as vocally around back then. ok, they didn't make the chip bad, which i think was a smart choice, and with that also kept things way more realistic (other then the range trough)
ep7 The Case Of The Hot-Air Ba-Boom!
the weird discomfort of hearing fabric tear and knowing it'll never be repaired. truly yet weirdly sad in my mind. i fear it's just a very me thing trough with a deep fear of permanent damage. if it's not just me please let me know.
damn, the biggest villain discovered trough myriad knowledge.
don't try to hide from a tiger in a tree, they are better climbers then you are.
"i'll send you the bill" "and i will tear it up." still many good lines.
less a fan of the subplot. you can be yourself plots often end up with character becoming a characature of themselves. sure, she's into makeup and stuff, but in other episodes it didn't stop her from being badass, while here they're set opposing one another.
ep8 The Case Of The Stinky Smell
guy asks for hairband. girl does not make comment on how that's not very manly, does make comment on that she doesn't have a good colour for him. you see this i appreciate.
a not very (at all) subtle empower women message while not delving into it as it's not interesting for kids. just "i learn a lot of stuff from you, like being empowered, whatever that is.". just adding it to the things that are normal and good. this show honestly has more too it then i'd expect. guess that's parts of why it stuck so much that i wanted to revisit it compared to many other shows from my childhood.
ok, i think first time the show got me laughing out loud. "remember last year when we painted the barn?" "i was so full of red spots i looked like a spotted leopard" "which is odd as we painted the barn green". just such a beautiful nonsensical conclusion.
ep3 The Case Of The Impolite, Snarly Thing
the show really has the nonsensical humour down. "it's 2 hours by train. or, and i don't know why you'd want to do this, 18 hours by pogo stick." i don't know if it's British humour or just this show but it keeps just cracking me up. "it's been around longer then prince Philip"
seems like the show is going a true scooby doo story with someone pretending to be a monster for selfish gain.
ok, i seriously can't stop laughing. 4 minutes 20 in, if you're good enough at English give it a watch, you won't be disappointed.
bringing up how companies paid with fake money for a second... why? "sweat deal for the company" i mean to me that sounds like something as evil as is appropriate for a town paying you with fake money so you can never leave their town, but i don't know if most kids would be able to get that.
oh gods this is from the time when cell phones were primarily and really just phones. not the (to me at least) weaker computer you always have with you. sometimes it takes media from a bit but not too long ago to remember how fast tech has moved.
"i bet your cellphone can't do that", that being point north. give is a couple years and you don't just have a compass but your position on the worlds map at all time... not sure if it would work underground though.
athletic old lady... neat!
ep4 The Case Of The Sticks And Their Tricks
oh, recurring villain? maybe not and they just look similar with a somewhat similar voice. also poisoning a tree would take long. like lets say it kills it in a day... then it's a dead tree, wood, the stuff we make houses out of. a tree dying means leaves will fall of, but the rest will stay up right for quite some time. ok, actually addressed in the show. it keeps being more realistic then i'm anticipating.
ep5 The Case Of The Plot To Pull The Plug
"on second though i'll be throwing up first" honestly fair
British person threatening more British person for sounding daft, so fun as an outsider... how the fuck did they do this one in the dutch dub? just have the twat speak oldtimy?
pretty good plot too, probably one of the best episodes so far.
ep9 The Case Of The Defective Detective
is it bad when i hear person that goes on adventures then turns those into books that my first reference is daring do from mlpfim?
"if you're going to cross this field you better be able to do it in 7 second, because our bull can do it in 8".
fuck i do still want to try a corset. anyone happen to know where you can buy a nice one?
pretty neat twist, and i do appreciate the diversity. also pretty neat bluff at the end.
ep10 The Case Of Allies Really Very Bad Singing
these episodes really are more "how do they catch them" instead of "who done it", who did it is generally revealed to the viewer a couple minutes in, while the crew tends to figure it out half or 3/4 of the way trough. it's pretty neat. kind of collumbo but always ending with a chase of some sort in which they get pretty inventive.
ah, those times when saying "i stored is all in my usb drive" wasn't insane yet... maybe it isn't insane still if you don't save hours of videos, many video games and thousands of images, i wouldn't know, those are my baseline.
really clever conclusions.
ep11 The Case Of The Medieval Meathead
oh i remember this episode bigtime. i think the mystery wasn't the set up mystery but that it was being solved along the way. i think the person that fake gets murdered did it. really i just remember the dark skinned king. it really is the diversity that truly stuck with me over the years.
medieval-ly talk on a strong British accent with some serious compression. damn now we're getting to the edge of what i can understand.
also Jo stays such a fucking mood. i think she really just was gender envy personified to me.
also got to love the coplady who's very much a woman, but makes sure to also be buff af.
pretty brutal. i mean the villains have been pretty brutal before, but this is drowning. a painful death.
mostly a good episode, really big fan of the diversity especially in this one. also i really need to get myself a witchy outfit one day too. fuck that's the second clothing wish list reminder this show gave.
ep13 The Case Of The Guy Who Makes You Act Like A Chicken
the circus are the badguys? that has some... unfortunate roots.
first time we see Jo's dad's face. i didn't remember the running joke, i didn't remember it ended. also the scheme is pretty fun, but damn does this episode feel the most aged. like the theme has often been that the new person is the culprit, other wise you get cabbot cove where somehow everyone is an eccentric killer yet no one seems to notice the trend, but that it's the circus makes it feel worse.
at least the villain was the most regular white dude out of the lot of them, but still, not the best feeling episode. at least not the one they ended on, that one is
ep12 The Case Of The Messy Mucked Up Masterpiece
oh, brittish show does an american. fun :D
oh, a man pretending to be a woman. this will either be a meh joke or extremely transphobic. it was meh, thank the gods. nevermind. sigh.
ending on a pretty standard good episode with but one not great moment, but it could be a lot worse.
overall rather good show that definitely left quite an impression. maybe give it a watch as the jokes do still really work and are rather outlandish in a very fun way to probably most people.
found this piece of critsism on wikipedia: "and my concern is that modern kids who watch this will think that the Famous Five is all about gadgets and multi-culturalism.", gadgets are not a real thing in the show at all, and the multi-culturalism and Jo are the reasons i at least remember it. them missing from the one famous 5 book i read after this show got me interested is why i never read another one of those books.
also oh shit that wasn't the final episode, i'll have to scour the internet for the other 13. the site i was watching on didn't have the rest. that's also why the order of episodes is fucked a bit.

long before velma hbo max original came out me and my scooby doo superfan friend made our own ideal version of a slightly-edgier scooby doo animated series remake starring velma as The main character.
the gang start the series as high school seniors. velma is The New Kid in school (she has a single mother who moves around a lot for quirky artist reasons). she's had a lot of bad experiences at previous schools (that's what happens when you're a mildly autistic fat black girl) so she's not exactly trying to make new friends but she's not really being misanthropic either
daphne spots velma reading a poetry book in between classes and is like. omgggg i love that author. and velmas like. um ok. and daphne just Latches on to her (daphne just went through a break-up and is realizing that she doesn't have any close female friends and wants to make some, STAT. #girlpower). they hang out after school one day and velma actually finds out they have a lot in common even though daphne is a Popular Girl (it's cliche. but live with it). they become friends
btw the first 2-3 episodes are almost exclusively about velma and daphne. their friendship should be THE emotional core of the series. they are ride-or-die for each other and we need to establish that IMMEDIATELY.
velma shares the weird shit (vaguely paranormal) that happened in her previous schools with daphne. and daphne's like. omg girl i believe you. we'll tackle this together. #girlboss
shaggy is type-1 diabetic (he eats scooby snacks because he doesn't have to track carbs for them. he binge-eats whenever he gets low BG cuz he sucks at managing his t1d) and scooby is his diabetic alert dog (which is why he never leaves shaggy's side, even at school). he meets velma bc they get paired up as lab partners
fred doesn't even come in as a major caracter until like ep 5. he's one of daphne's exes and they mostly only start hanging out with him because he has a nice van and they need to go places.
this is the plan for the first like 6 episodes. thanks for listening

Why the Zombies from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island are Still the Only Zombies I Like
When I was smol I felt I couldn't go fucking anywhere without finding out a new zombie movie or show or video game was coming out. This was the time when I felt no one would stop fucking talking about The Walking Dead, Zombieland, World War Z, The Last of Us, Warm Bodies. It didn't help that my parents were all into it. Being that young I had no sense of the appeal which people had facing an intense disaster dismantling the world as they knew it while shedding those integral parts of their humanity to be willing to shoot people who once were their friends and loved ones. Despite the fact that making the zombie condition caused by a science fiction based virus zaps away any humanity left in the zombie unlike a supernaturally caused curse which I'm going to get into later. I couldn't even appreciate it in any shallow basis being someone of my age at the time might have leaned into. To me, zombies were the weenies of the horror monster ensemble. Ugly shambling corpses who'd fall apart if you pushed them too far, nothing but the foot soldiers of greater monsters who'd throw sheer numbers to deal with a problem. Not even having the magically endowed abilities of an ancient curse that mummies were given. I had a rigid view of zombies too and felt fast-moving zombies of 28 Days Later didn't count because they were breaking their own rules. Similar principal to The Last of Us, those weren't zombies to me they were different flavors of mutant monsters. It was my bugbear with the Twilight series, smol me found out their vampires didn't die in the sun and from then on I wasn't having it.
Then I remembered the first movie with zombies in it I actually watched was Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and I realized. Wait. I actually still like those.
Ok, let's start with a basic principle. Look at this shot of zombies from The Walking Dead.
Now look at the ones from World War Z
Now try to answer me a basic question. What can you tell me about these zombies from when they were alive? Basic shit you have to make big leaps even then, huh? The World War Z zombies are literally just pieces of a mound meant for getting over a wall.
Now consider the zombies of Scooby-Doo from Zombie Island.
You can tell exactly who were pirates, who were Confederate soldiers, who were tourists, and such. I've seen big zombie fans make a big deal about the need to shed off humanity that comes about when killing zombies but what humanity is left exactly in these zombie works of fiction when you can barely note their humanity in the first place? They might as well just be monstrous ghouls wanting to eat the living. They just make all the zombies a big mosh pit of gray bodies and remove them of the humanity before any of the main characters even need to. With Zombie Island you get a glimpse of exactly who the person used to be and illustrates the different times and walks of life these people were turned from.
Even that inferior cash grab I refuse to acknowledge as a sequel falls into the same trap of not bothering to show some passion making the zombies people who had a life and had that taken from them.
Monsters don't need to be sympathetic, most of the time they just need to horrify you and make you absolutely scared but in the case of Zombie Island anyone who has seen that movie knows that only the pirates really deserved being turned into zombies for what they did to Simone and Lena and their people. Well also the Confederates, cause fuck 'em for obvious reasons. Works like The Walking Dead are so nihilistic in the way a virus makes these zombies nothing more but decaying animals and dehumanizes beings that used to be people and insist characters must toughen up to kill them indiscriminately, especially former loved ones who bear a mere superficial resemblance to themselves when they turn. Zombie Island zombies still have a semblance of a tortured soul within them struggling to warn others of their fate despite their monstrous appearances and their inability to speak to the living coherently. Then finally allows them peace at the end of the movie, a luxury I haven't seen zombies in these other works get.
I have never seen the appeal in monsters who aren't treated as proper characters by the work they're included in. Zombies are humans forced to die but not allowed to rest forced to walk until they rot with an insatiable hunger often lethal to them, but works like The Walking Dead and the like treat them as a natural disaster hardly worth feeling sorry for.

ok something about super buffy in primeval having yellow eyes just like vampires. something about super buffy at her most complete state, her heart mind and spirit fully integrated in her body, is when she mirrors the creatures she's destined to kill. something about fool for love "how many of my kind reckon you've done?" / "not enough" / "and we just keep coming. but you can kill a hundred, a thousand, a thousand thousand and the enemies of Hell besides and all we need is for one of us...". something about "you think we're dancing?"/ "that's all we've ever done" something about buffy and vampires being locked in an endless step with each other. she is the vampire slayer. definitionally, she needs their existence for hers. if she were to kill every last vampire, she would cease to be a slayer. it's the dance.
it's restless, which comes off the heels of primeval, the dream state that primeval unlocks -- primeval holding for one second, complete wholeness, which is a state we're not meant to exist within ("we are forever"), and so to come out of that wholeness, that total union with one's family/community/no loneliness within the body, is to open yourself up to see exactly where you're fractured. you return to your body, no longer entwined, and suddenly you're aware of how your body is lonely, of where your aches are, in a way you weren't, a second ago when you were whole, and in a way that maybe you never were before. it's restless containing "we're not demons" / "is that a fact?" and it's restless' sister episode, buffy vs. dracula, containing buffy's hunger for the darkness. it's get it done confirming, that the slayer is made from demons.
it's, if we want to go there because i'm always going there, it's buffy coming back into the room with the scoobies in it, riley in tow, who she had already encountered before the spell began, but then oh boy spike is there, his presence unexpected and confusing, registered with a brief baffled eye. it's the scooby ritual space--the camera swiveling around them, enclosing a magic circle, being literally interrupted by spike barging into the room, with a demon, killing a demon. the wholeness of the spell disrupted, shattered, by the presence of the shadow. by the mirror of buffy's mission -- a vampire, the thing buffy's existence depends upon, performing the action that defines said existence, killing a demon. carrying that punctuation reminder of, in 5x01 terms, "[her] true nature. wanna taste?". reconciliation with the found family established, we now re-break the world, start over the cycle, to find a new brokenness -- the shadow, unreconciled. barely looked at. the loneliness inherent in the shadow itself (this post from @impalementation comes to mind).
we come back into the body, we arrive back at the brokeness of life after the fullness of song ("life's not a song. life isn't bliss, life is just this, it's living. you'll get along. the pain that you feel, it only can heal, by living. you have to go on living. so one of us is living"). ready to inch towards the next fullness. the next reconciliation, wholeness, completion.
which we do. which buffy does. it's buffy's full reconciliation with her shadow. the yellow light of flame reflecting in both their eyes. their hands clasped, united in total wholeness for one moment.
only for the hands to break. we return from wholeness, again, into the world, again, on to find the next brokenness. it's the repetition of cycles. it's how you finally arrive at the ending, the exaltation, the completeness, of the world, only for the cycle to restart. to become the fool again. back to zero.
all things looping back on themselves. the closed fist a kind of the ouroboros. the flames eat at the skin of the hands but the system remains closed, nothing destroyed, nothing created, but everything constantly being eaten.
in short, it's you think we're dancing? that's all we've ever done.
#THIS WAS GOING TO BE A TWO LINE TWEET AND THEN I GOT OVERWHELMED#this got way more pretentious than i meant for it too but i'd just like everyone to know that im NOT sorry and i hope next time im even#MORE pretentious hehe#<3#btvs meta#long post.

can we get spike being victorian headcannons or cannons? and giles being like "wow victorian much?" or whatever
Um yes you can oh my goodness Spike being a Victorian is one of my favorite things
-so Victorian Courting went about like this: first two people just started talking, conversating and such, then they would go on Walks, usually with a chaperone, then they would attend social functions together, they would spend time at each other's homes with their families, then they would become engaged. Spike ticks all these boxes with Buffy, specifically in season 5: they talk, a lot- it might just be her busting into his crypt for information, or him popping up to make a comment during patrol, but it counts to him. They go on walks- they patrol together (well, he shows up when she's on patrol and then he walks next to her while annoying her but again, he counts that), they look for Dawn together. They go to social events together, mostly at the bronze- I'm thinking the Fool For Love date interrogation during which they play pool, I'm thinking him dressing in drag in Crush, they both are at that spring break party in I Was Made to Love You (again, he thinks them just both being there counts, regardless of whether or not he showed up specifically to seek her out). He spends time with her family (Lover's Walk, Crush, in Checkpoint she leaves them with him to protect). So like, in his own vampirey way, he is courting her like the lovelorn Victorian he is.
-apparently the concept of love at first sight originated in the Victorian Era and while I don't think it was love at first sight (side note my phone autocorrected sight to fight lmao that might be more accurate tbh) I do think the notion is something William would've yearned for and dreamed about and wrote about
-also something that gained popularity in England in this era was "companionate marriage" which is pretty much marrying for love, rather than strategically for social and economic reasons. I feel like this is touched on in flashbacks but that's absolutely what William wanted, he wanted love, and a partnership, a companionship, in that love
-we know he stands up for her in The I in Team so (@disco-tea voice) what if he just Does that all the time, she enters a room, he stands up. At first she's like "what the fuck are you doing you freak" but eventually she gets used to it and it's just another Spike thing that she grows to love. (The scoobies still think he's a freak but that's nothing new)
-when Buffy uses his first name his brain shuts off (I am citing my sources)
-he opens doors for Buffy, which we see in Crush, but once they are Together he does it all the time without even thinking about it, it's just what he does, he and Buffy are walking through a door, Buffy's getting out of a car, he opens the door for her
-he is obsessed with Buffy's hair and part of that is Buffy and part of that is because Victorian women didn't leave their hair down in public unless they were children or prostitutes or maybe respected spinsters so seeing long hair flowing in the breeze is like "WEEWOOWEEWOO AOOOGA"
-this is kind of Victorian adjacent but he has no idea who the queen is. Last he checked it was Victoria and he hasn't cared since. Dawn asks him for a history assignment and he says Victoria and she's like "ok I know for a fact that that's not true" and he's like "??? Really? Huh. Well definitely one of her kids. Or grandkids. Probably."
-so nipple piercings were a big thing for like two years around 1890 and I don't think the whirlwind would've been in England still/again so I think he would've missed that trend. However. Dawn being the nerd she is learns about it and mercilessly teases Spike about it and insists he must've had them (because he is a freaky victorian vampire and nipple piercings just make Sense). Eventually he one ups her and actually gets his nipples pierced to Win. Dawn laughs for a solid ten minutes and Buffy doesn't know what to do with herself (she figures it out eventually :))
-he still writes like a victorian, all cursive and fancy, and half the time no one can read his writing bc yes it looks nice but no one uses cursive anymore and also he writes fast bc his brain also works fast so it comes out sloppy (Buffy also has this disease. Dawn is Suffering with her lovely and easy to decipher font-like handwriting.)
-also this comment
#anon im sorry these dont circle back to giles being like 👀 i forgot to refer to the prompt my ap english teacher would be so disappointed#but anything he does that is undeniably gentlemanly giles clocks bc hes a Father and also british#and maybe he does mock spike once he learns hes a victorian. it's his right as his father in law.#ask

Omg I love your gif set for the 25th anniversary! Can you explain why you picked each shot for each character? I'd love an in-depth analysis 😍
Hi, thank you so much! ❤️ Of course, I'd love to talk about my thought process, because I really did put A LOT of thought into the shots I chose. I'm gonna break this down per character, but first I want to state that each mini gifset for each character (if it isn't obvious) is supposed to comprise of shots that represent the character in some shape or form. The large top gif is meant to represent which dynamic *I* find to be the most important to each character. Ok, now I'm gonna start! (for those curious, this is the set she’s referring to!)
Buffy:
This was simultaneously the easiest and most challenging one to make. How does one begin to describe such a complexly layered and brilliant character like Buffy Anne Summers? So, I started with her most obvious identifier: The Slayer.
For this, I chose the iconic Vampyr book shot, and the cross that Angel gives her. The cross shot is particularly significant, IMO, because I think the interaction between the two of them is what makes Buffy start to take what's happening pretty seriously. Yes, she was reluctant with Giles but then later asked him to prepare her, but at the time, the preparing her for "what" was nameless, formless, just an IDEA. Now, Angel tells her SPECIFICALLY what she has to face, which is The Harvest. I think this is the most where it all becomes very real to her.
I chose Buffy's grave to symbolize her sacrifice in "The Gift." One of Buffy's biggest defining traits is her selflessness and her compassion, and that's beautifully represented in her choosing to die so that her sister may get the chance to finally begin living.
The iconic shot of Buffy's scraped and bloody back! This represents the fact that she's a warrior and her willingness to keep fighting even after she’s been knocked down. But this scene also represents the burden of being a Slayer, and her speech about how she is the law is such a powerful moment because, finally, she understands what Faith was going on about in season three (although Faith was a bit misguided, she planted the seed.)
And, of course, Dawn and Buffy, which is Buffy's most significant relationship in the series, albeit platonic. And Buffy and Angel, which is Buffy's most significant romantic relationship in the series. Angel was integral to Buffy accepting her destiny as a Slayer. He was her confidant, her partner in crime, her companion, her first love and her first heartbreak. I chose that shot of them specifically because it’s the! scene! The scene where she loses her virginity and the entire trajectory of the show is changed forever. Poor baby really went through it!
I did not choose Giles/Buffy over Dawn/Buffy because Buffy is basically Dawn's mother, in a lot of ways. So, while Giles represents her father figure, a mother will always choose her child. Dawn’s arrival also officially ends Buffy’s childhood. While Buffy was forced to grow up very fast after she was called, there were moments where she still got to be a teenager. But after Joyce’s death, she resumes the role as Dawn’s mother and as a result she loses something she can never get back.
Giles:
Jenny Calendar's grave was selected to represent Giles' greatest love and his greatest loss (after losing Buffy, of course.)
I chose the shot of him smoking a cigarette in "Band Candy" to represent his "Ripper" side. There is no Giles without the Ripper, seeing as the Ripper is always right underneath the surface.
I chose the drawings from "First Date" both because it's funny (and not the first time he has comical drawings), but also to represent his duties as a Watcher.
I chose the shot of him in the Magic Box to represent that very important and significant time in his life, as well as the Scooby's. The Magic Box became their home for awhile, and it also gave him a newfound sense of purpose after spending the entirety of season four feeling rather listless and lost.
I had to include a shot of books, because, hello! Giles! But I chose the shot in "Hush” because not only does it show him physically reaching for a book to do research, but it shows him choosing to continue helping Buffy despite the fact that he is no longer her Watcher, and he no longer has a job. Like, he stuck around in season four because of his love for Buffy and because he believed in protecting the world.
Buffy and Giles... I mean, no doubt this is one of the most important dynamics of the show. I chose to use it for Giles and not Buffy for the reasons listed earlier, but also because Buffy is Giles’ entire reason for being in Sunnydale, and a lot of ways, she is his life. She’s his daughter!
Willow:
Willow is the only Scooby that gets a romantic interest as the most important dynamic, but she’s not the only Scooby that gets a romantic interest represented in her set. Choosing Tara was effortless and easy. While their relationship is far from perfect, Tara helps Willow discover who she is. Tara gives Willow strength to navigate the confusing feelings she was having for her, as well as strength to believe in herself and her power. She makes her feel special and seen. I think it is very important to Willow to feel special, and she even says this about Tara to Buffy, “The only thing I had going for me ... were the moments - just moments - when Tara would look at me and I was wonderful. And that will never happen again.” Tara represents both the light and the dark within Willow. Light, for her ability to love deeply. Dark, for how dangerous that passion can be if it’s lost.
I chose the shot of the pez witch that Oz gives Willow to represent, well, Oz, and the fact that she’s a witch. While Oz is not Willow’s ~greatest~ love, he helped Willow break out of her shell, and he made her feel loved and like she mattered for the first time in her life.
I chose the shot in “Villains” to represent Willow’s darkness and ultimately her greatest flaw: her thirst for power.
I chose the computer shot to represent her skills as a hacker. Before she was a witch, she contributed to the Scooby gang by being a skilled hacker and it made her feel useful, which did wonders for her confidence.
I chose the shot of her and Tara doing the spell with the rose to represent magic (I know I already have a shot of that but it’s Willow!!) and how the show relied on “doing spells” as a metaphor for sex.
The cat shot. Well, it’s cute and very witch-y lol. Also the shot is from “Restless” which does a deep dive of Willow’s insecurities concerning inadequacy and how horrified she is of her past self. That’s why Oz and Tara are seen gossiping about her.
Xander:
No disrespect to the Xanya and Cander shippers, but Buffy and Willow will forever be Xander’s most important bond in the series. Xander was literally willing to die for Buffy only two episodes into the show. He may have his problems, he may say insensitive and selfish things at times, but when Buffy and Willow are in danger, he is the first to volunteer to save them.
I chose the shot of him holding an axe in “The Zeppo” to represent his willingness to fight despite having no special skills whatsoever. It’s actually insane how willing he is to fight when he has such a higher chance of being killed. Also, “The Zeppo” is just an EXCELLENT character study episode.
I chose the shot of Cordy and the necklace for two reasons. The main reason is the fact that it’s a heart necklace, and Buffy has said that Xander is her strength and he was also the heart in their spell in “Primeval.” The other reason is that Cordy is in the shot, and I think she actually did a lot for him. Even though he cheated on her, I think Xander brought out a softness in Cordelia, and she also made him feel confident. There was a genuine connection there.
The shot of Anya and Xander at the wedding represents his immaturity. He knew he was not ready to get married, and yet he did not have the courage to speak up sooner. And his reasons for not getting married go far deeper than being too young and immature. It has a lot to do with his family, his fears of becoming like them, and his insecurities. I do think it was RIGHT for him to not get married, 21 is very young, but leaving her at the altar is selfish and immature. Literally the worst way to handle that situation.
I wanted to juxtapose that Xanya shot with a shot of the greatest thing he ever does: save the world. And he saves the world through his words that are fueled by years and years of love.
And last but not least, the plans he brings of the new high school. This represents the more obvious ways he IS useful. He fixes things! He puts Buffy’s house back together. Also, his job is a huge part of his identity since he’s the only Scooby that chooses not to go to college.
I also wanted to say that I intentionally chose the two shots of women having blood on their faces to represent the subversion of the show, and I made Willow and Giles have the black and white color gif to represent how their journeys mirror themselves at times. Giles sees himself in Willow and that is why he is so skeptical and adamant about how she chooses to practice magic.
For the anniversary set, I chose to do the four core Scoobies because they are the heart of the show, and a huge part of why Buffy thrives, survives, and remains grounded as the Slayer is because of the support and help she receives from her friends.
Thanks for the ask! I’m sure you’re the only person who will read this lol 🤪

“ me excitedly telling you about my dr and how different it is from the actual series “
Anyways this is my stranger things DR, I’ve been working on it since July the 3rd, I am half way through the script.
So far I’ve moved it over to a discord server so I can better organize everything and eventually there will be a PowerPoint so yeah:3
I also have a Pinterest board for it but I’m keeping it a secret board for now but once the dr is done then it won’t be a secret board.
(What is the DR and what fandom is this DR for)
Ok so for starters it’s for Stranger Things but it’s very different from the series because it’s an alternative DR
This means that vecna, the mindflayer, demodogs, demogorgon don’t exist basically in this dr
Instead of Eleven being in the lab and associated with DR. Brenner I was thinking like hopper and his crew found out about what was going on in Hawkins Lab, and decided to break in and save the kids before anything else happened.
So technically Eleven was saved because of them, and Hopper adopted Eleven and yeah so that’s a difference as well
The kids have been aged up instead of them being in middle school there in high school there 15-16 and there sophomores in high school
I’m in Steve’s age group so everyone is 16-17 years old, and in the 11th grade and yeah:3
Eddie, Robin, Chrissy, Max, and Jason😒 exist in season 1 and Eddie and Chrissy are alive in this so yay “hope this is a comfort cause it is to me”
Nancy and Steve are already dating in this, Nancy is head of the newspaper and I also am going to script that she’s like class president/head of the student council cause she built like that purr💕
Argyle and Eden will come in season 2 if that’s what y’all were wondering
Also I’m shifting to season 1 (1983), also the reason it is an alternative DR is because I wanted something where they had like a sense of normalcy, don’t have to deal with trauma, and yeah I figured if it was an alternative then it won’t be so bad
Also like I think to make it interesting I feel like it could be some gravity falls type beat and like they solve the mysteries and scary related stuff of Hawkins, like some Scooby Do stuff lmao
So it’s stranger things + euphoria = it’s euphoria but the 80s and yeah
(So what is the dr about and how is the plot/plot structure going to go)
Well im still working it out but I have a clear idea on how the plot/plot structure is going to be.
So my dr self’s name is Jae Marie Hopper, my family and I have moved from Maryland to Hawkins, the reason that we moved is because Maryland became unsafe and my mother wanted somewhere where we all could be safe and have a fresh start.
Hence why we moved, so my parents have the house the house isn’t done yet though so, me and my younger sister “Edith” go to stay with my uncle hopper and his daughter El
While my parents go stay with my dad’s parents for the time being, and my older sister “Stevie” is off at summer camp for awhile (so Stevie and the parents won’t be important until like season 2 so yeah)
So me and my sister go to stay with my uncle and his daughter, and we get settled in and everything.
Eleven is happy to have me there because she didn’t want to spend another summer with just her friends again, she said it’s nice but she rather do summer differently this time
I don’t respond but I smile at her, while her and Edith are catching up with one another I’m just hoping that I can have a fresh start without screwing up anything
(I just want to put something out there, so my dr self was kind of having a rough time back in her old hometown it had to do with 🍃 & 💊 which was a lot for her so that’s another reason why the decision to move to Hawkins was made it was for her sake)
Anyways back to are schedule programming, I’m hoping that I don’t screw things up and that things go smoothly, given my past and how things went left I don’t want to drag that here
*my uncle already knows something up when I’m not with el and edith* so he asks me if everything is ok, I just lie and tell him that I’m alright
He’s not one to pry on or keep asking anything so he just brushes it off, and doesn’t press me about it
So El comes running back out excitedly telling me that she has to show me around the school because there having club sign ups and stuff
So I agree to come because that’s the first thing I wanted to do, so we walk to the school and I see a lot of people “mainly my age” signing up for clubs and stuff.
As we are walking around the school and everything El is just rambling and everything, I see someone stressed and storming off as newspapers are falling everywhere, El tells me that’s her boyfriend’s sister Nancy Wheeler -> I’m shocked that she has a boyfriend because like how and when.
So I ask El if they have a cheerleading squad and El is like “I am speed” and like the speed of light, she basically brings Chrissy and says that Chrissy is holding the tryouts and that I could tryout, so I ask Chrissy if I can tryout and she says yes:3 -> so after all the girls tryout I tryout and I shock them and everything especially Chrissy
Out of all the girls that tried out chrissy chooses me to join the team and I’m very much happy about it:3
After tryouts me and Chrissy are just walking side by side and just talking about anything and everything, and then she ask me if I want to go to this little concert thing that’s happening at the trailer park according to her it’s supposed to be a garage concert but she just laughs and says that it’s just a concert outside the trailer park. -> at first I’m hesitant to go but Chrissy convinced me to come when she says that cute boys will be there -> so I tell her I’ll be there and she goes to her house and I walk to my house.
(The day of the garage concert)
• anyways so the next day, I’m getting ready for the concert and of course hopper being nosy and all ask me why I’m all dressed up and everything
• I tell him that I’m going to a garage concert and that I won’t be home late, so he doesn’t press me on anything
• El took Edith to go meet her friends and hang out with her, so after I got ready I went to go and find Chrissy so maybe we could go early to the garage concert instead
• as I’m walking I see Chrissy but she’s not coming in my direction she’s going a whole other direction, so I decided to follow her cause yeah
• so I’m following her to this trailer area, and then I see her go inside so I instantly panic and I run towards the trailer park to stop anything bad from happening
• so I push the door open a little bit, and then I just kick it down which causes Chrissy to get startled and whoever else was in there to run off and hide.
• I’m yelling at Chrissy asking her what she’s doing here and why she’s buying those and that their to strong, then she’s asking me how I know about them -> I’m trying to come up with some stupid excuse but Chrissy sees right through me and asks me again -> so I tell her that I’ll make sure to explain everything to her and I just end up running away from there.
• Eddie comes out from where he was hiding and is in total disbelief and confusion, he asks if Chrissy still wants the drugs and she says that’s not the reason she came here for -> she wanted to hook me and Eddie up -> Eddie is completely against it because he doesn’t want to be involved with someone only to be the butt of someone’s joke -> Chrissy tells him that I’m not like that and that she doesn’t know me like that for me to be like every other cheerleader -> so Eddie agrees to give me a shot.
Chrissy leaves Eddie’s trailer and starts walking home, when she gets home that’s when she sees me sitting there. -> it’s awkward for a bit because of what happened earlier -> Chrissy ends up breaking the silence and asks me about how I knew what kind of drugs they were -> I end up telling her about the reasons that I’m here and my situation -> Chrissy says she didn’t know and says she’s sorry -> I end up telling her that’s it’s alright and that she’s the only person that I trust enough to tell her, I trust my uncle and Edith but I trust her the most.
Chrissy is surprised that I told her that I trust her, I tell her that we are friends and that she made me feel like I could come to her about literally anything no matter how stupid or dumb it was.
Chrissy ends up hugging me and tells me that she glad that we met and became friends, I tell her the same thing and we go in her house so that she can also get ready for the concert.
As we get to the concert, Chrissy tells me that she promises that her friend group is not weird -> I tell her that as long as they match my energy I don’t really care -> as we are talking Robin comes running up to her basically knocking her down -> Robin ask Chrissy where she has been all this time and then she introduces herself to me and recognizes me as officer hopps’s niece and was wondering if it was just me -> I tell her that I have an older sister who is at summer camp and that Edith is here with me and that she’s a total metal-head and would have love to come here.
So after Robin came up to us, Nancy comes up to us out of breathe and is scolding Robin for running off like that, and Robin apologizes to Nancy for running off like that and says that Chrissy made a new friend, and Nancy recognizes me from earlier during club sign ups and she introduces herself to me as well.
And after awhile I start meeting Chrissy’s other friends “Steve and Jonathan”, and we all end up just chatting and talking and stuff, and then Chrissy says she’s has someone else to introduce me to.
I’m confused cause I’m like I met pretty much everyone in her friend group, is there a boyfriend she has that I don’t know about.
So Chrissy ends up taking me to the side of the trailer and I end up meeting one of her childhood friends Eddie, and we kind of just stare at each other for awhile before I end up laughing (embarrassing my ass in another reality perfect)
Chrissy kind of just walks off after that and just leaves me and Eddie there basically, so Eddie compliments my rings and my outfit, and I compliments his rings and I say his hair is really cool. -> he ends up laughing at that and tells me that he’s about to go on and perform, and I tell him good luck and he winks at me “MUNSON WINKED AT ME MUNSON WINKED AT ME WIRIEUEEBEB”
So after I tell Eddie good luck I go off to Chrissy and her friends, and Eddie comes out and performs with his friends and it’s cool and shit, Robin literally screaming and cheering for him and us hoping that she doesn’t make our ears bleed with the way she’s screaming and cheering for me
After everything, me and Eddie exchange numbers and Eddie calls me the next day
(That’s literally it cause I’m still working on other things but this is how is basically will start off when I shift there)
(Plot Structure)
So for starters I’m shifting to season 1 but it’s the alternative version of it basically
It is in 1983 though so there’s that, ok so here’s how it’s structure so summer is already happening in my DR right -> and me and my family didn’t move to Hawkins until towards the end of May (I’ll have a timeline done soon cause I still have more scripting to do as I’m typing this up).
So my desired reality is focusing on my dr self getting adjusted to her new life and hoping that her fresh start, starts off right basically.
As we may or may not already know she has had to put up with bullying back in her old hometown and got herself mixed up in 🍃 & 💊 (idk how tumblr feels about any mentions of getting high or drugs so that’s why I did that) she’s also a stoner so it’s like the one thing she’s worried that it will screw up everything again
at first I was thinking it would be titled the material girl and so and so but honestly I don’t even feel like coming up with a title for this I’ve just been calling it STRANGER THINGS DR ALT this whole time lmao
So the plot structure for the first season is a summer in Hawkins, new mysterious girl in town, hopes to have a fresh start and start off right, meets the captain of the cheerleading squad and meets her group of friends, and a fluffy haired metal head with cool hair and cool rings. (It’s basically a summary just in case someone ends up asking me about it)
She doesn’t know how the summer will end for her or how it will go down, but she hopes she’s alright and well by the end of it
That’s what I have for the plot structure and this is the only season I have scripted so far I haven’t gotten to any of the other seasons as of yet, but yeah:3
Anyways moving on:3
(Disclaimer) > just so everyone is clear and knows I’m not following the series and I’m not following the timeline, this is an alternative dr meaning that it’s not following the show and the same things that happened in the series will not be happening in my dr

Analyzing Illumi Zoldyck's Character
Chrollo Analysis | Hisoka Analysis | Killua Analysis
What’s up y’all! Sorry for being away for the last few days. I needed a break from social media because I am so tired of seeing toxic, self-righteous people on my TL. Anyway, quite a lot of you liked my posts about analyzing HxH characters and somehow comparing them to VLD characters. Today, I’ll be talking about Illumi Zoldyck and I’ll try to compare him to a Voltron character. I know many people have already analyzed this character before, but it wouldn’t hurt to add to the discussion some years later. If you want me to write about anything else, send me an ask! The formatting of this post may be different than the one I wrote about Hisoka Morrow (click his name to view that post).
HERE WE GO!
In the first season, all of the characters are contestants for the Hunter’s Exam. I say contestants because this is a contest to see who can win without any injuries and can keep up with each host. I forget what number stage they were at, but I do know they were at the stage where each opponent has to fight each other. They are declared the winner if their opponent forfeits or gives up mid-match. (Off-topic, but) I am going, to be honest; Gon was my favorite character but his flaws began to show, annoyed me, and later led to his horrific downfall (based from YouTube clips). He didn’t know when to stop and kept pushing himself over the limit. Anyway, Killua and Gittarackur are set to fight. This is when things take a turn for the worse.
Gittarackur is a form of a disguise for Illumi to mask his identity. His face is long; nearly (and reminds me of) in the shape of a Tiki. His face also reminds me of the Witch Doctor mask from Scooby-Doo and Hell-raiser. He has several pins stuck in his face to maintain the facial features of Gittarackur. On the flip side, if he removes the pins, his biological form is revealed. Once he does this, Killua is nearly paralyzed; he cannot believe his eyes and I’m sure the trauma he endured at home hit him like a sack of rocks. Illumi then tells Killua that he wants him to return home, that he cannot maintain a friendship with Gon, stated that he was going to kill Gon, but realizes that if he does so he will be disqualified and will not obtain his Hunter’s license.
I’m assuming the cops aren’t a thing in this reality and the only way for them to “destroy” under the law is by obtaining the license. What do you think? I rarely see police officers; all I see are the Mafia and every they suck compared to the Zoldyck's and the Phantom Troupe. Shit, it seems like they’re the police but have twisted motives.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a fictional character or not, first impressions matter and he bombed this one...even for a villain.
But you did this for what?
How can you hypnotize (by using Nen) your own brother into killing another opponent because he doesn’t want to become an emotionless zombie like you? At least, that’s my perception. Telling your brother to run every time he faces an opponent that he knows he cannot win against is the sickest shit I’ve ever seen. I know I’m jumping around but another thought popped into my head. As the seasons go on, Illumi expresses an odd way of loving his younger brother and to him, that means to make him suffer in the same way he had to. It seems like Illumi is jealous of Gon in a way. (I’ve seen clips on YouTube) Killua takes Alluka to the hospital to heal Gon. Illumi has stated several times to Hisoka that Killua was hiding rules from him and that he still wanted to get rid of Alluka. Although it is clearly stated why he wanted Alluka gone, I still think that Illumi was jealous of Gon simply because his younger brother preferred to be with a friend instead of him. This is why he emphasizes “You cannot have friends. Either they will betray you or you’ll betray them.”
As I read and watched as the seasons went on, I noticed something about Illumi and his family. We all know that the children were raised by their parents. Specifically, their dad is a trained assassin. I can’t remember but I think Zeno is their grandfather who is also an assassin.
I view him as a character that has suffered from abuse and trauma in order to mold him into an assassin. He is emotionless, doesn’t really care for others, has an odd relationship with Killua that he doesn’t have for his other siblings, and is a hypocrite. Killua can’t be friends with Gon but every time the show cuts to him, he’s with Hisoka? Something is fishy there. Are they more than friends? OK, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. Here's the physical analysis below.
Face
When masquerading as Gittarackur, his face has several pins in them and his hair is in a rock star form of Mohawk that is purple. I’ll give him 10/10 for uniqueness, yet it still reminded me of Hell Raiser.
I’ve noticed that when he is in public he is in costume. Why doesn’t he reveal himself in public? I’ve researched this and no one could answer this question. My guess is that he is a verified hunter and assassin. How can you carry out your missions if everyone knows what you look like? Without the pins in his face, it reverts back to his natural state. To me, his large eyes and long, shiny black hair are his distinguished features. Although he may be my least favorite character, he does have pretty eyes. Haven’t you all heard of “I got lost in his/her eyes”?
Yeah, that can be said about him. Most definitely. He rarely smiles and when he does, something BAD is going to happen. I saw him laugh crazily once Alluka began the healing process, the Nen (I guess) rose from the hospital and got on him. This scene reminds me of how Haggar reacted once the Komar’s quintessence bounced from Voltron and bounced onto her. Wow, these supernatural abilities make y’all feel that good?
Clothes
Gittarackur and Illumi wear the same clothes, which should be a clear giveaway that they are the same. Illumi wears a neural green short jacket that has yellow pins in them, a light green shirt underneath, and green pants. His shoes remind me of loafers with a heel on them, something my grandmother would wear.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say again, these bad-ass men in this show are very stylish and seem to be in shape more than I am. Although Illumi irks me, his fashion is great and this is why people prefer him to be their favorite character. Shows should always produce characters that are memorable; that is the key to a long-lasting fan base.
In conclusion, this anime (for the most part) has well-rounded characters that make the plot interesting and wanting more.
Illumi and Lotor are somewhat similar. They both grew up in abusive households and lost some sense of sensitivity, common sense, and were often “misguided” by their own selfishness. Illumi wants a better life for Killua by constantly brainwashing him into thinking that he cannot have friends and his can only find happiness through killing. Zarkon raises Lotor to be a prince that shouldn't work with planets and should destroy them. This explains why he used deceased Alteans from the colony, drained their quintessence, and didn't give them a proper burial. Lotor IS just like his father but Killua IS NOT like Illumi. Ironic, huh? As we all know by now, Lotor is the son of Honerva (Haggar) and Zarkon. After the rift accident, he became an emotionless, ruthless monster that colonized and destroyed planets just to gain their quintessence. He taught this to his son and once he was old enough to think for himself, he refused to act in such a way. Although he was exiled and said he wasn’t like Zarkon, he was; but worse. Lotor studied and gained knowledge about Altea and its people while using Allura to gain the secrets of Oriande. I say he used her because he knew from the moment he met her that he was harvesting Altean quintessence. While fighting the white lion, he yelled “Victory or Death” which is a common catchphrase the Galra use when they are in battle. In fact, the Galra have been victims of trauma from Zarkon. Zarkon’s ruthless ways of ruling had no other motive except for obtaining quintessence so he could live forever. Silva’s way of raising his children was done to mold them into assassins. Since he was taught this way he did the same thing to his children. Zarkon, Silva, and Zeno think that their ways of parenting are necessary for survive in life when it doesn’t have to be that way. Illumi and Lotor have experienced this horrific parenting and deal with it in different ways. Illumi is oddly obsessive of his younger brother and Lotor is a fucking liar.
This analysis was fun! Next, I’ll be analyzing Killua and Keith Kogane.

ok you know what i think it’s actually really vital that i talk a little bit about tea time. buckle up kiddos.
first off, a brief and relatively spoiler-free summary: the premise of the issue is very simple. the kiddos (aged up, if willow’s mention of being engaged is any indication) are hanging out in the library to help giles with research, swapping stories about what it would be like were giles a vampire. each of them, save giles, gets a chance to tell a detailed story -- xander tells two! -- and each story plays out in a way that says a lot about the scooby that’s telling it AND the way they view giles.
obviously this is a VERY character-driven issue, and it’s a really really interesting look at giles and how he is perceived as well! shit like that is my bread and butter, so this has honestly become one of my favorite things that boom has put out -- possibly my ACTUAL top favorite issue if we’re being real here.
below the cut is a spoilery dissection of every story told -- a literal summary of Every Single Thing that happens in this issue, as well as what it has to say about the scoobies and their perception of giles, so definitely keep that in mind.
as can be seen in the preview, xander’s first story is about giles rising from the grave as an ineffectual british caricature, who is easily defeated by smoldering, sexy xander harris (and xander in turn walks off with buffy and willow draped all over him, cooing about how amazing he is). it’s more of an intro to the premise than anything, but it still sets the tone pretty clearly wrt how xander handles this situation: there’s some laughter and levity, and he’s center stage. obviously a lot can be said about xander’s self-esteem issues and how he overcompensates by casting himself as the main protagonist both in canon and here. however, i wanna save my more in-depth xander analysis for his second, longer, story, so i’ll stop myself there.
willow immediately responds with skepticism: she’s of the mind that giles would be an incredibly serious big-bad level threat. the tale she spins involves giles as a dangerous vampire cleric with access to a cryptic altar, killing xander almost immediately and slaughtering buffy as a sacrifice to create eternal night. her view of giles is more clinical than anything -- and, i would argue, the most perceptive and realistic from a threat standpoint. the guy knows a fuckton of magic and he is incredibly well-read and powerful. he’d have some kind of terrifying master plan. where xander goes for comedy, willow goes straight for logistics, already looking at the battle like it’s a battle rather than laughs aplenty.
xander and buffy have a bone to pick with willow’s story (xander is indignant that he’s immediately and brutally killed, buffy is of the mind that she would easily defeat giles in hand-to-hand combat even if he IS a vampire), so (after one more teasing story where buffy lives and xander dies) willow gracefully alters her narrative to reflect her friends’ objections: after a dramatic tussle, xander helps willow and buffy unceremoniously stakes giles in the heart. still pretty straightforward and plausible. willow sees vamp giles primarily as a threat -- one not easily neutralized. one who could easily wipe them out.
buffy, about to tell her story, is interrupted by xander, who “had an even better idea!” the web he weaves is this time purported as realistic and entertaining: while partying at the bronze, buffy and co. are interrupted by a bunch of balding, greying vampires in curlers and bathrobes, led, of course, by giles -- who is wearing a hair bonnet and disapprovingly informing the bouncers how late it is at eight PM. a knockdown brawl breaks out at the bronze -- old people feeding on and decimating the young -- and culminates in giles and the geezers taking over the band to sing “some terrible song” that’s “probably something really old and bad!” the rest of the story descends into b-movie chaos, with buffy throwing a broken guitar neck up at the stage lights to send the whole thing crashing down onto vampire giles and his vampire old person band. it’s categorically absurd.
the thing that really sticks with me about this story is how dumb it is. xander’s take on giles is not even slightly serious and wholly underestimates him. fandom at large talks a lot about how giles dropped the ball with xander, but i think tea time explores an easily overlooked factor: xander constantly, consistently underestimates giles. in canon, xander’s view of giles is not often challenged: to him, giles is a bumbling, british librarian who regularly gets his ass handed to him by vamps and demons and the like. certainly part of his story’s intent is about laughingly entertaining his gal pals, but there’s a very real and consistent thread involving giles being hilariously nonthreatening.
giles, taking umbrage at this particular tale, calls out both xander and willow: xander’s story, in giles’s opinion, emasculates vamp giles and turns him into a ridiculous caricature -- and willow’s story, though much more flattering, lacks the kind of imagination that vamp giles would clearly have. he then offers a suggestion of his own. it’s worth mentioning here that both xander’s and willow’s stories get gorgeous multiple-page spreads depicting the vampy action, but giles’s is a simple and chilling little thing: this is his vampire story. this meeting, called to ostensibly “research” a vampire altar, is really an excuse to get the scoobies to do his dirty work and find the thing for him. they’re tired and silly because the tea and donuts he’s given them are drugged, and their library location is to keep them out of daylight. he laughs it off when he sees they’re bothered, and the meeting is then adjourned when willow finally finds what they’re all looking for.
buffy’s left her phone in the library, so she doubles back, and accidentally wakes up a dozing giles. just as she’s about to leave, he inquires, casually, “...you never did tell your version of the story.”
and good god here is where it gets interesting.
see, buffy’s take is simple: she’s fighting giles in a cemetery, she’s given the chance to kill him, and she is entirely unable to do it. they share a tearful embrace as she sobs about the unfairness of it all -- “you’re giles! and you’ll always be! ...how will i do this without you? without your guidance?” and as the sun is rising, giles turns her into a vampire, with no resistance whatsoever from buffy. the next handful of pages depict bloody, indulgent violence on the parts of giles and buffy, the two of them cuddled up together as they watch the world burn.
buffy’s tale is the most emotive, the most loving, which makes me so damn soft! i love this girl so much! she is unable to even joke about giles as a foe to be taken down -- he is her watcher. he is her friend. she loves him endlessly and that does not change when he’s a vampire. vamp giles as she portrays him is gentle and understanding, holding her as she cries, because he knows that they’re connected. it’s easily my favorite part of this whole issue.
notably, there is a definite buffy/giles bend that the comic itself tries to contradict. the art is sensual in nature -- vamp buffy all dolled up in a way somewhat evocative of drusilla, giles tenderly caressing her face as he waits for her to wake up. “watcher and slayer connected forever” being the quote chosen to describe the situation. i think it’s kind of what naturally happens in a vamp giles sitch, especially if he turns buffy -- the childe/sire bond is incredibly sexual in nature, especially in canon, and a lot of frustrating human sentiment gets translated into something sexual as well. sex is a big BIG part of the relationships between vampires we see in canon; it would make a lot of sense for that to hold true for buffy and giles.
the comic is reticent about Going There, which i can understand -- though buffy is decisively aged up in this issue (willow mentions being engaged to a woman, later revealed to be tara), the buffy/giles bond is always seen through a father/daughter lens in canon. i do think it’s also important to always recognize how desperately giles wishes to escape the label of father in reference to buffy, pretty much entirely because there is no way to parent a child soldier who you’re also training, but that’s a whole other kettle of fish. point is, buffy very pointedly refers to vamp giles as her father not once, but twice -- once as a human, once as a vampire herself. it’s a very clear attempt, imo, to un-sexualize the vampy experience. the reason it doesn’t totally work, at least for me, is the fact that -- like i said -- the childe/sire bond is VERY sexual (spike and dru, angel and darla, angel and dru) and it seems just totally implausible that vamp buffy/vamp giles (two people who, as human were both VERY repressed) would chastely remain within the socially acceptable version of their relationship.
i can definitely understand why they did their best to blur that line, though. the idea of buffy and giles being romantically involved as vampires is 1) Kind Of A Lot and 2) not exactly the target demographic that i think this comic is going for. but the subtext is there, to the point where the issue itself has to actively obfuscate it, which i think is .... so interesting? especially as a counterpoint to the way i often see buffy/giles in fandom, wherein the father/daughter subtext in canon is at times actively obfuscated in fic in an attempt to push a preferred reading.
the ending i particularly enjoyed: after buffy leaves, it is lightly and ambiguously implied that giles might really be a vampire. works GREAT as a standalone, imo, and the end is like the cherry on top. it’s a really REALLY interesting issue and i highly recommend it for any giles fan.
#meta#btvs comics#buffy and giles#''a little bit'' they say. and write a full fucking essay#anyway i love this issue it's my prized possession i am dying for at least one (1) person to read this insane summary and talk to me abt it
