I'm sure someone's already said this better, but I think the secret sauce that makes someone a good candidate to be an Avatar of a Fear is to be afraid of it first.
There's this quote from Hideo Kojima I think about a lot:
"I get scared very easily," said Kojima. "Actually, this is true of Alfred Hitchcock as well as Steven Spielberg. Because they scare easily, because I scare easily, it's actually easy for us to make something that is scary, because we understand what is scary." Link to article
Junji Ito talks about this too. That boy is scared of everything and he makes horror about everything.
I think an Avatar works the same way. It's not a full requirement, but I believe you can't be an effective Avatar of your patron unless you fully understand why it terrifies someone.
Jane Prentiss had the wasps nest. Annabelle claimed to be arachnophobic. Agnes Montague feared her own lost potential. Trevor faced his own mortality being hunted by vampires. Oliver tried to escape death. Helen and Michael were completely shaken from their experience in the Spiral. Martin was terrified of being left alone.
And Jon is scared of literally everything, making him a perfect vessel for the Fears.
I don't think all Avatars have to fear their patrons, especially those that were created rather than transformed, but it seems to be a common link.
Makes me wonder if Peter actually enjoyed the Lonely as a child as much as he claimed, considering how chatty he could be with like minded people. Or if Simon ever felt the lurch in his stomach as he stared at the ground below. If Jonah ever resented prying eyes on him and wanted to turn them around and make them feel it back.
It seems like a lot of them faced their greatest fear, and when they made it to the other side they were granted the power to turn it onto others to ensure their survival. Like someone trauma bonding to their abuser. Maybe it feels safer.

Sometimes I think about how Jon is such a punching bag in the show and how heavily he was beaten and bullied by the people around him and the narrative and it makes me think about stuff.
On the one hand, it does make me sad. It seems as though the harder he tries, the more people kick him when he's down. It makes it all the more impressive that he kept going regardless, but especially considering my very strong autistic headcanon (not Johnny's fault, he wasn't intending this), it can be a really sore spot. I'd say in a good way, though, in a hurt/no comfort sort of way. It's weirdly therapeutic.
On the character side of things, I do understand why everyone treats him that way. Not that he necessarily deserves it (though Jon has said and done plenty to earn some shit back, he's not perfect either), but everyone around him is stuck with him and fucking pissed about it. It's easier to redirect their hatred and pain to Jon - who just kinda takes it - than Elias or literal Eldritch gods. People hurt easier targets when they can't hurt the people that are actually ruining their lives.
Then I think about it in the meta sense. It's easier for Jonny to beat up Jon as well. I especially saw this in my own writing of fanfic of the series. When you have a main character (especially if that main character shares traits of your own), then hurting that main character is so much easier to process mentally. Not that Jonny won't ruin other characters lives, but they all almost have it easy in comparison to Jon's torment.
This also seems accurate in Alex's way of seeing the characters as well, saying Martin is based on a lot of the stuff he hates about himself when he was younger while also insisting on making their lives worse. (Alex, when I catch you.) It feels like literary self-harm in a way. You're willing to hurt the character you're the most attached to in an effort to give some protection to the rest.
Idk how to end this. Jon needs more hugs.

I've seen it said in places that Jon and Martin's relationship (specifically Jon realizing he has feelings for Martin) feels rushed and out of nowhere, and there's a perspective here that I want to share.
I think some people see them as explicitly a gay couple and expect them both to react a certain way to each other, but I have some thoughts as to why Jon is different and their relationship might not look like a traditional MLM story.
I feel that Jon's affections for Martin are absolutely there and growing over time, but with him being acespec, possibly autistic (the "I feel...sad" moment screams alexithymia to me. He doesn't fully understand his internal feelings until they're too big to ignore), and trying very hard to not get murdered for several seasons, I think it's perfectly reasonable his feelings for Martin would take time to develop.
We do see him softening to Martin over time. We see him thinking about Martin unprompted when he's alone. We see him going from "this man is going to ruin this delicate facade I've put up to seem professional, and I want him gone immediately." to "Oh, you're actually capable. So capable you might be trying to kill me." To "I don't want him to get involved or he might get hurt. I need to keep my distance so he's safe." To "I'm going to make myself tea out of nowhere because the guy who usually made it for me all the time isn't here and now it's part of my routine and I want to keep that part of him around while I'm hiding out for murder."
But once he identifies his own feelings, he overcorrects right into hopeless romantic. He's pining hard all S4, because he finally realized himself that he's in love and it's at the worst possible time. It is abrupt. Dude only just figured it out and he's throwing his whole ass into this.
I think even without the autistic headcanon, the acespec nature of how he views relationships and his whole "I feel...sad" moment indicates clearly that he was just oblivious to his own feelings for a very long time.
I know it feels sudden, but some of us are oblivious, okay? I was friends with a girl for 2 years before my brain flipped the switch and Jon's reaction felt so familiar, and I love it. I just hardly ever get to see "me" in media, and it's a bummer when people say it feels unrealistic. It's not, it's just not the norm.

So for those who don't know yet, Jess confirmed that Season 7 of MyStreet will be coimng out late 2025. So I decided to go watch the last episode of season 6 because I vaguely remembered an interesting post-credits scene involving Zack and Elizabeth.
And y'all... they were straight up talking about the world maybe ending and their realm "fading". I do not know what exactly that means or how I forgot about that conversation but um... I guess we might have an idea about what season 7 will be about? Because them talking about the possibility of the world ending feels super important.
Also this kinda gets overshadowed by everything else in that scene but I feel the need to point out that Elizabeth can do magic and she implied she did something to make it so that Garte's family doesn't remember him anymore.
