so no one was going to tell me if i got literally one episode further tenax drops that he’s the one who saved scorpus from his mom’s pimp AND that he’s intimately familiar with scorpus’ dick when he was younger. guys. guys.
#thinking about an INSANE divorce fic. as a follow-up to the 30k canon-compliant backstory i have not written#(really it could be an au of that because like. am i sentimental and would i want them to get emotionally divorced NO but i will get into#the variants of this later i have to tell you about them ACTUALLY divorced first before i get into the hot divorcee energy of it all)#where they fucked around when they were younger and then broke up because. yeah tenax can dream but scorpus needs certainty he is what he#is he wants attention and dignity and when blue offers for him he goes and we don’t need to know what the massive fight was but we DO need#to know that they stopped fucking and maybe they stopped talking too but now they’re Colleagues. putting the ‘because i can’ moment#into a WHOLE different light bc it’s very much a ‘you no longer have a say in who I get to fuck because it’s not YOU. because we’re not’#and thus we get an exes-to-lovers arc I still know you the best and yes I SEE the scorpus xenon andria potential & once again I am saying:#put that in a box we can’t talk about that right now I see it but that’s not what we’re here for. anyway I was TRYING to say the ‘I know u#best of anyone’ of it all and if you think I have stopped thinking about tenax goading scorpus & talking about his dick for a single second#I have not. I REALLY have not because that is top tier blatant manipulation to be like ohhhh poor baby you’re so old and rotting I can just#get a new chariot driver I don’t even really want you anyway 😇 and scorpus KNOWS It’s bait however. he’s gotta get his attention back.#anyway they are ugly divorced and it’s very slow burn but I know exactly how you taste & what buttons to press & how to grip your shoulders#in an argument until they fuck nasty on all of their riches or however this thing ends. not well for anyone but I WILL be getting them back#together. the other fun little big divorced energy thoughts i had were very much ‘divorced and arguing but it’s foreplay to threaten to#leave each other’ so they can have hot aggressive mean sex because they get off on arguing with each other. everybody in the stables starts#to see them arguing about chariot design & the brothers are scared they’re gonna kill each other & then suddenly scorpus is tongue-fucking#Tenax’s throat with a fist still in his hair and tenax has a hand pinning him back against the post by the throat and that’s all they see#before everybody clears the FUCK out. this is a regular occurrence at all times in all arguments it’s so fun I love the dynamic#OHHHH AND IT’S AN OUTSIDER POV FIC i said the brothers really i meant elia but also now that i say that. could be a fun five + 1 of#everyone watching them threaten to kill each other and then y’know. la petit mort. ALSO i know i see the calla/tenax too we can’t talk abt#that put it in the box with the chariot drivers we can have one (1) thing at a time. the calla note is because i want a calla pov of them#where she’s just like ‘freaks. right in front of my salad?’ and does not give a fuck at all. top tier. anyway. andria/elia/calla/domitian#(Domitian seeing them petition him would be so fun because he wants to puppet master everything he’d want to know SO BAD.) the 5th one idk#because I don’t have any idea about the third brother yet but maybe Tenax catching scorpus in a brothel again? and the +1 is their POV ofc.#(anyway for myself: the vibes i want here are geno/anna cat and mouse follow/unfollow divorce and win her back rumors)#scorpus/tenax#those about to die#scorpus#tenax

Random thoughts on the D&D movie in no particular order:
I loved the jokes. All of them. All the stupid jokes. I was their target audience and they succeeded at making me cackle at dumb shit while my partner's soul left his body
The landscape shots were breathtaking and honestly made me tear up at the beauty in places. In the theater, I remember thinking, "Yeah, FUCK yeah, these guys understood the assignment!" Nine out of ten times, I think fantasy should be animated, because if you don't pour millions into the budget, the action looks like crummy LARPers wearing silly costumes in the woods. This movie understood that if you're doing live action fantasy, you owe your audience some damn beautiful landscape shots and damn did they deliver on some beautiful landscape shots.
(cut for spoilers)
I sincerely appreciated Holga and her husband being divorced but still amicable. I'm so tired of the trope of exes being evil or awful. They just seemed like two adults who wanted to love each other but the circumstances of being together doomed them from the start. It was played for laughs but it was just a moment I genuinely enjoyed as divorcee. I also loved her ex's new wife looking exactly like her, both for the gag, and for what it said about both of them being each other's type even if it didn't work out.
I also cackled like a hyena at Holga's halfling fetish while also finding it rather sweet and enjoyed imagining all the reasons why she might have that preference lol
As a basic Drizzt Do'Urden loving bitch, I squeed when I saw Icewind Dale on the map. Then I had a moment between that and the Underdark of wondering, "Am I gonna see him? Even in the distance? Am I going to see my first love, Drizzt Do'Urden??"
And then I realized: the Paladin. The Paladin is Drizzt. Only good person who came out of a nation destroyed by evil. Too good for this world, too pure, to the point of being sanctimonious but is also a hottie. Xenk is Drizzt.
Oh, I also squeed when I saw the Underdark.
I appreciated how knowledge of D&D improved certain story beats (like the gelatinous cube or the displacer beast) but wasn't required to enjoy the plot. That's how references should be done.
The most agonizingly cringe moment for me was when Holga was dying. Just. I appreciated the beat. It couldn't go any other way. They delivered on their set up with the tablet, the only question was ever, "Who besides his wife is going to get saved with it?" And it made perfect sense who it was. I'm glad they didn't try to pull a fast one. But the scene was like... 10 seconds too long of her dying for me to not roll my eyes. We know you're going to use the tablet on her, dipshit, please keep this moving.
BUT I think the reason they did it was to land a sincere moment with the daughter, and I appreciated that. I think the scene could have been improved by Holga being like, "Don't you fucking dare use that tablet on me!" and then smacking him when he did it anyway and then he'd have to explain that he set out to save his daughter's mother, not his wife, who has passed on, etc etc. but I'm not sure that would have been much better so maybe the drawn-out opera death scene and the sincerity was better in the end idk.
I KINDA wanted to see the actors as the players playing D&D BUT I know why they didn't and it was a wise choice, it undermines the drama too much to say it doesn't matter because it's a game. Maybe if instead they'd should the characters playing D&D in universe as normal humans? Idk
I thought there'd be more Xenk? I thought he'd be in the arena with them? A little bummed but I also loved his GM NPC energy.
The combat and camera work was great! Genuinely enjoyable and well made, I appreciated the artistry that went into it.
Loved the bardic distraction scene for truly capturing the chaos of a D&D party's attempt at breaking and entering
Loved the portals bit for truly capturing the strategy and planning that can go into a functioning D&D campaign's clever heist, even if I'm sure it would have taken 5 sessions to plot out IRL
Honestly, it was just a fun, solid film! It's been a while since I've seen such a fun, solid film! I would buy it and put it on in the background to just enjoy and not angst over it! It was worth the price of admission, it was faithful to the spirit of D&D instead of sneering at it the way the early 2000s one did, and I had a good time! It wasn't the highest of art but it would have been weird if it had been! I liked it a lot!

As someone who has a friend who's into Enstars, but I do not play it nor know much about it, I've managed to gather some things over time and I think it's time I write what I assume Enstars is about and so, here it is, My summary of Enstars from someone who has never played enstars Enstars is a rythm game you play on your phone probably, And in it, theres pretty boys with lots of problems. The most important pretty boy is Eichi, His bestie and possible husband and or ex husband or something, and victim, Is Keito Hasumi. Eichi is a bad little man who causes problems, and his rivalfriend who's sort of helping him is a reddish plum haired vampire who's face looks like >:D all the time. He has a gun for some reason. Keito is very tired and survives on energy drinks, and he likes little animals. He's a bad guy but he's the main character and during enstars you chose a band to help sponsor. I'm pretty sure Keito and Eichi killed at least a few people. Keito is going along with this because he's very easily manipulated and Eichi is his best friend in the entire world, and Eichi is dying so Keito has to help him. Keito despite being a little nerd boy with glasses, wants to be a star. Also he likes Bl Manga, would probably read Mxtx's books if he could, and probably doesn't know he and Eichi are married divorcees but everyone else knows. I'm pretty sure they don't go to jail but Eichi at least definitely belongs there from what i've gathered. Also there's a magical boy who definitely can break reality. he's probably very important. And then there's the red haired seasick one who's just a soft little guy. And the purple stabby man. he's very fun! this, is all I have gathered so far : ) Please tell me how I did in the comments.

Sorry for leaving everyone hanging but bestie got covid so I’ve been asleep for days! Anyways here is some of my friend’s story (note there is so much more crazy in her life but I don’t have the energy to type it all out) :
Okay so background she came to our college from across the country and fell IN LOVE with this dude here. Eventually she decided our school wasn’t for her and that she outgrew it so she dropped out and moved home. After being together for less than a year she decided to move back here alone to be with him (even though he’s currently in DC for military deployment)
So she moved here in November and everything seemed good. When I went to see her (abt an hour away from our school) and she was planning her future. They had been talking about g about marriage and he wanted her to look at houses with him when he came back. I was worried about her because he actually cheated on her at one point be she let it slide even when we said don’t get back with him. But ya know she’s her own person.
He’s 23 so the age gap was fine and she’s always been “older for her age” which is from her life experiences being treated more like an adult.
So at this point she’s living alone in his apartment and gets a job where she makes some friends and such. Including mr 31 year old.
All of a sudden the day before Thanksgiving she breaks up with him without any of us knowing. Apparently she was taken by surprise when the guy was doing nice things for her and not expecting sex in return. (And now I’m learning more abt how abusive he was). But the guy became super close with her to the point that he was there while she broke up with him. I told her that he might expect more from her at some point and to watch out but she told me it was fine and it wasn’t like that.
So she breaks up with the guy she just moved across the country for and now needs to get out of his apartment. The guy actually went crazy and made threats and had her followed so I was worried. But she decided to stay in that town where she didn’t really know anyone else which I was confused by. So then she ends up at a new apartment and having a ton of dates and one night stands. Which is fine I told her she needs to be single for a bit because even before the guy she was with another guy and never was really single.
The next thing I know it’s after Christmas and she’s dating the 31 yr old and practically living at his place. I was just on the phone with her and instantly she said they were thinking abt getting married (LIKE SOON). Please note no one in her life outside of this little town has even met him. She moved fast with the other guy but this is even faster. She’s know the guy for less than 6 months and is talking about legally marring him. Because “it proves we are committed to each other and he’s what I want for my future.”
I have NO idea how to slow this down and I’m worried she’s clinging to him because of her issues with family and also the fact that he’s able to protect her from the ex that made death threats.
Anyways that’s the chaos I deal with. On the opposite side I don’t leave my dorm on the weekends and have reread fics longer than War and Peace and Crime and Punishment combined in a few days.
-🦝
this is how abuse happens. this is how is starts.
he's made her rely on him for saftey and housing, and he's rushing into tying her down legally. i feel for her, but if she won't listen, this is going to be a hard lesson and it'll suck being a 25 year old divorcee.

Split Second
Tumblr media
It's rather eerie watching Dick Powell’s first film as a director, SPLIT SECOND (1953, TCM), considering his next film, THE CONQUEROR (1956), would put him in the same situation off-screen as the characters in his first. Escaped convict Stephen McNally takes a bunch of people hostage in a deserted Nevada town slated for destruction by a nuclear test. If flighty soon-to-be divorcee Alexis Smith’s doctor husband (Richard Egan) can get there in time to save McNally’s friend (Paul Kelly) from a bullet wound, they might make it out in time to outrun the blast. Powell doesn’t generate a lot of tension until the end. The nuclear test isn’t enough of a presence; you’re never really aware of time running out for most of the picture. And some of his early compositions are flat and undramatic. Irving Wallace’s script displays more than a little ignorance about the long-term effects of nuclear fallout and features a laughable finale complete with a mine ex machina. He doesn’t have much understanding of human psychology either as the characters often make choices more to motivate violent action than out of any discernible need. There are some decent actors on hand — McNally, Kelly, Egan, Keith Andes and Arthur Hunnicutt, who brings some much-needed energy as a prospector who stumbles into the hostage situation. The real standout is Jan Sterling, who hitches a ride with Andes’ reporter only for the two of them to get carjacked. Her tough girl from Pittsburgh has a Judy Holiday-light feel to her, and when she tells Andes about her past, you can believe she grew up with an alcoholic father and man-hungry mother. By contrast, Smith can’t seem to get a handle on her character. It’s all bits, with nothing to tie together the shocked society woman and the danger junkie who’s turned on by McNally. She has one honest moment. McNally asks her, “You ever been locked up?” When she responds, “Not the way you mean,” she seems to know what she’s talking about (for once). Nine years at Warner Bros. can do that to you.

"YOU HAVE A GREAT MORAL compass. That's good to know." Rex was surrounded by people who normalized making bad decisions. The bar on what he considered great was low. His interest grew when she started namedropping. Mainly because it reminded him of the people he knew. He wasn't going to pry, though. "A guy with that name sounds like a piece of work," he commented, his remark all based on experience. "You're just lucky you're surrounded by people who genuinely cared and looked out for you. Other people wouldn't be so nice. I guess that's what they could call killing you with kindness," he quipped with a chuckle.
The more she shared about her life, the more interesting she became. The blonde clearly had a lot of baggage. Not just from her ex-boyfriend but from her father as well. The men in her life, with the exception of her brother, disappointed her many times. If he were in her shoes, it would have driven him crazy. "Let me guess, was the woman he married the same age as you or your brother?" Divorcee or widowed marrying a younger woman was usually the issue. "You telling me this means you're learning. You have to choose your battles wisely. Sometimes you just have to be indifferent and let things go. Everything's not worth your energy and effort." Introducing himself legally made sense. There was no harm in getting to know a patron at a bar. "Right. Gotta blacklist him." He snickered. "I wouldn't make her cry on purpose. It pains me when she does." He wouldn't consider himself a good person, considering what he did for a living, but he did try to always do the right thing. "Well, I do my best." He turned to the bar to make another set of drink, going for a daiquiri this time. Once he was done making it, he placed the glass in front of her.

❝ Even if I was desperate enough to want to get back with that piece of work I couldn't. I'm married , and cheating isn't really my thing. I've been the person cheated on so I know how shitty the feeling is. I would never do that to my husband. Even if I was the cheating type , Mason definitely wouldn't be the one I'd be cheating with. ❞ Now hearing the male's name leave her lips definitely felt strange even with all the time that they had been broken up. Maybe it is just for the simple fact that she'd finally seen him in the light that she'd been warned about not only by Gwen but Violet as well. Amelia could finally say that she is on the right track to focusing on her future with her husband. ❝ Not that I'd ever easily admit it out loud but I do see where they were coming from. It is odd how even after hurting my brother and sister in law they both still went out of their way to protect me. ❞ The faintest smile forming upon her lips. ❝ I'd be lying if I said that I didn't do a lot of questionable things before the arrangement. I mean I literally ruined my father's wedding reception because I don't like the woman that he married. ❞ She'd spare Rex the details unless he asked. ❝ I do hope that I have that spark within me. The only difference is that I need to make sure I use it for the right things and not the petty bullshit of before. ❞ It is the truth , Amelia has been working on bettering herself. Marrying Luis meant that she'd need to break out of her habit of doing things just to be spiteful. She is a wife now and is a part of a family that holds even more importance than her own. Femme knew she couldn't let anyone down with her behaviour. ❝ Well it is nice to meet you , Rex. ❞ There has been days when Amelia desired that she didn't come from a well known family , but at the same time she'd enjoyed having attention on her simply because of whom her family is. Her marriage would likely only make her more known than her own family's name. ❝ Yeah , well I am sure that he is been added to the list of people who don't deserve a second chance from me. ❞ Of course she knew that a part of her would still have some sort of love for the male but she wasn't going to harbour on it anymore. ❝ As long as you're not making her cry for the wrong reasons than there is nothing wrong with that. I'm tell you , there isn't a lot of great guys in this world but you give off the type that is a good guy unless he doesn't need to be. ❞

🏹💫 ASTRO NOTES 🌟🧚🏽:
(tbh some of these may already be listed somewhere. i’ve been on here for a long time lol.)
♍️ virgos may have clean rooms but messy liminal spaces (cars, pantries, drawers, etc.)
♒️ aqua moons dominate birth charts. a leo sun w an aqua moon will still give off aquarian energy.
♏️ scorpio mars don’t really like one night stands, but have no problem with them if their sexual needs are not met. the reason is that they catch feelings through physical intimacy.
🔥 no matter what your sun sign or dominant element is, if you have a fire moon or rising, that energy will always come out when u are drunk/under the influence.
♏️ scorpio placements (especially suns) cannot cook lmao. i have found that they just don’t have a knack for it, usually due to a lack of patience. and even when they try, their food just doesn’t taste the best.
♎️ libra placements (esp. sun/mars) are quick to want to live with their partners. my libra aunt wanted to move in with a guy after a month of dating? (she’s 48) yikes.
♊️ gemini placements do not like to be rushed. if you try to rush a gemini, they will surely attack you w their words or intentionally slow down just to irritate and inconvenience you even further.
♐️ sagittarius women have defined or prominent chins/jaws (can also apply to sag risings)
♎️ libra placements become visually altered when they are unbalanced. idk i can always tell when a libra isn’t doing well, not only is it felt energetically but i can see it on their faces, especially in their eyes 👀
♋️ cancer risings wanna be introverts sooo bad lmao. a lottt of y’all are extroverts, just own it. needing time to recharge your social battery does not make you an introvert, it makes you human lol.
♒️ it’s unbelievable how many older women with aquarius placements are divorcees because they were forced to conform to social/gender norms and got married, only to realize they never really wanted to be married in the first place. especially common amongst pluto in virgo/libra generations.
♏️ mothers w scorpio placements (esp. suns) who have multiple kids will often have a favorite child. they may or may not verbally express it, but they definitely do have a favorite child lol. it’s usually the one that checks up on them/spoils them the most. (ex: kris jenner).

HELLO HI YOUR LONDON SIDE DLC POSTS HAVE ME DYING I NEED TO HEAR YOUR VANLOCK THOUGHTS BEFORE THESE LOSER DIVORCEES FUCKING KILL ME
YOU WROTE THE VANLOCK DANCE OF DEDUCTION THING OH MY GOD A VANLOCK ICON HAS VISITED MY HUMBLE CHAMBERS
words cannot express how much i love vanlock like i got into it for the exes energy at first in dgs 1 and then it all spiralled from there and i started reading fanfiction (there's this one really good author i absolutely adore) bro dude i was there when there were 36 vanlock fics on ao3 and 18 of them were in chinese i have remained devoted and i will continue to remain devoted to these gayasses
most of my thoughts ive already posted about them, some of them i plan to make into fics once school stops kicking my ass with a vengeance and im writing one right now but lemme try to highlight everything i like about their dynamic uhhhh
there is so much potential post-dgs2 for their dynamic because found family and [cOUGHs in dgs2 spoilers] and literally how are they NOT gonna have to be in contact 24/7 they are going to be married in 10 years if iris has anything to say about it.
we dont know ANYTHING about their history even though they clearly have a history which is just a green flag for headcanons to go wild, i mean im already deadset on the idea that both of them at least minored in theater with how fuckin flamboyant they are so van zieks majored in law while herlock majored in either chemistry, engineering, or the art of driving everyone insane. or everything idk
they must have done a stage kiss at least once that was extremely fraught with actual romantic/sexual tension that everyone but them noticed and was extremely awkward about. benjamin/albert happens to be with van zieks when they both see herlock in the present and albert is like "oh hey i remember him you guys did that really awkward stage k-" and van zieks is like "please stop talking"
i said this in another post but it is so unclear what their relationship is that you could assign so many things to it. exes, divorcees, one night stand, several night stands, coworkers with benefits, secretly married, what are you i could write so much fanfiction about you there are so many potential complex emotions and conflicted feelings and regret and i live for that shit
I NEED BAROK TO WALTZ WITH HERLOCK IN A DANCE OF DEDUCTION PLEASE GOD
i'm pretty sure herlock DOES trust van zieks to some extent and my memory is fuzzy but i don't think he's ever really indicated that he actually thought van zieks was The Reaper despite calling him shinigami-kun/reapy/mr. reaper and such?? correct me if im wrong but he seems to subtly guide ryuu into realizing that barok is not in fact a murderer
the london dlc case literally has me reeling like sholmes used his very questionable connections to find out van zieks' birthday and then both he and iris snuck into his office to do nice things for him what the fuck like this was a family project?? they straight up adopted him and he didnt notice
i read this one addition to my post where someone talked about how barok and sholmes are a lot nicer to each other in private and sholmes says "barok" instead of reapy and i havent seen much of 2-5 but i dont even care if it's true or not im making it canon in my head im so down bad for the enemies in public softer in private dynamic like shizaya or dabihawks
the way the public actively avoids both of them, one of them because he's annoying and the other because he's supposedly a murderer is good flavor i enjoy that and i enjoy people gawking at them being in public together interacting normally i read this one fic where barok was used to observing the thirteen foot distance between him and the crowd and then herlock joined him and he was like oh. it's fourteen feet now ahskdGSDGSHKkjhdsjh
gina iris and the apprentice teasing/exposing barok for his crush on herlock is also very fun, and vice versa
them being like "my masked apprentice is better" "no ryuunosuke is better"while said apprentices are making out
they qualify for my "teachers that have tried to kill each other at least once and are also probably married and students have no idea what their relationship is" au that i lovingly bestow on all my older people ships
there's probably more but i have to get back to work ahjdkGHJSJ anyway vanlock supremacy

I’m not sure why but I really really wanna write Spanish Jackie and Ed as exes who are still married. Like they got married super young, neither of them really wanted to do it (maybe they did it as part of a scheme or trick or something? Nobody really knows) and they’re still technically married, so they have this fun married-divorcees-who-lowkey-hate-each-other energy

PART 1/3 (I'm sorry): Okay, I'm not on Tumblr a lot, and I was just going through your art tag to see what I've missed in my absence. When i listened to this post (/post/672092509755801600/pls-have-this-meme), I realized I wanted to share an idea my sibling and I have in the complete OPPOSITE energy. They and I have a humanformers AU where Megs and Starscream are multiple divorcees and their last failed marriages were to each other. Star's been seeing Wheeljack for six
years steadily, but for reasons of really not wanting to mess up this relationship like his previous ones, they haven't gotten married. But Wheeljack finally convinces him to give it a go, and for reasons of shared custody of a kid, Starscream does tell Megatron this wedding is happening. It was supposed to be the smallest ceremony possible to avoid jinxing it, but Megatron crashes the wedding with all of Starscream's other exes and they perform a karaoke version of the song Thank You Sir (For Taking Her Away from Me) by Slim Hanson and the Poor Choices. Star's exes and Star's extended family are all having a FANTASTIC time and meanwhile Star and Jack are just like "Well, I wasn't PLANNING on drinking this much at the wedding, but I sure am now!" (You absolutely don't have to do anything with this information or even share it, I just had a sudden need to share it after seeing that post.)
ok first off: that's an amazing song, i have to share it
and second: omigod there's been OTHER humanformer verses where star and jack are a main ship?? please tell me more !! i am dying for more content, and also what's that about shared custody of a kid?
(you don't have to tell me more of course, but thank you for sharing, that sure sounds like a fun universe^^)

Leon & Steven divorcee headcanons
Did someone say pain? Failed relationships? Alimony? Ya girl Boopy is here for you!
Unlike the Sycamore one, I don’t really subscribe to these headcanons, but they’re still fun to think about.
Leon
It was obvious to everyone but him that his marriage was doomed from the start. He and his spouse were only twenty and had only been together less than a year. Plus, he’s a very busy celebrity, it’s basically a recipe for failure. But he was young and blinded by infatuated.
I don’t think his spouse was a gold digger, but they were definitely in love with the famous champion, and not with Leon. But at the same time, they hated how much time he spent working, which was a lot. In fairness, Leon also didn’t make time for his spouse, he had barely carried them over the threshold after their honeymoon before he was off to Wyndon Stadium for the week.
Their marriage lasted just over a year, and he was broken up with via text right before a match. He wasn’t surprised, he had fallen out of love with them already, but it was still quite upsetting. He channelled all that energy into the battle and won. The breakup and subsequent divorce actually began his disillusionment with his champion title, and he realised how it negatively affected his life, but he wouldn’t be beaten for another few years. It was also the first time he had really failed, which hurt his confidence a lot.
The only smart thing he did was get a prenup, so while his spouse did get a fat paycheque, he still retained a lot of his money, and didn’t have to pay alimony. After that, he never really saw his ex again, they had a brief stint in reality TV but then just disappeared with their money.
Because it was so brief, and since Leon is fairly private with a good PR team, it’s kinda swept under the rug, most people forget it even happened. Even Lee sometimes forgets, especially once he starts dating, and eventually marries, you
And dw, youe marriage goes most smoother, and lasts much, much, much longer (i. e. until death) than his first.
Steven
He didn’t want to get married in the first place. But he had a duty to his family, and his partner at the time was also from an elite family in Hoenn. Pressure was being thrown at him from all sides, his father, Devon, his partner, his partner’s parents, the media, society’s whole thing with settling down and having kids (even if he did want this, just not like this)
In the run up to the wedding, his fiancé starting to show a petty, selfish, entitled side, he chose to ignore it. On the day itself, he had a panic attack before the ceremony. Wallace was there with him, and told him if he wanted to run away he could, and he’d cover for him. Steven somehow convinced himself to go through with it, something he severely regretted, even moments after his vows.
He suffered in a loveless, fight-filled marriage for ten years, the only saving grace was his son. Steven did want to be a dad, and thought maybe a kid would help ease the tension at home, it didn’t, that;s why they only had one, but it did positively impact his life otherwise. He would do anything for his little boy, he lit up the house with so much light and love and laughter. He spent as much time with him as possible and was his primary caretaker.
When his marriage did end, it was horrendous, the media had a fucking field day. He’s so lucky he had such a good legal team, otherwise he would have been stripped of his kid, and his money. He got split custody of their son, but since his ex was so bitter, once his son was old enough, he chose to stay with his dad full-time.
Going from Hoenn’s most eligible bachelor to Hoenn’s most eligible Dilf was certainly a difficult, long, and scary transition, but he was quite glad to be free. When he’s ready to start dating again, he definitely approaches it in a much healthier way, that puts his needs (and his son’s) first.
Luckily for you, your needs aligned perfectly, and you’re such a good step-parent too. Despite how terrible his first marriage was, he’d go through it all again, because he wouldn’t have his son, or have met you, otherwise, and you two are the most precious people in the world to him.
Also divorced! dilf! Steven x School teacher reader??? Can you imagine???

𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎 .
ANSWER  THE  FOLLOWING  FOR  YOUR  MUSE  SO  PEOPLE KNOW  HOW  SHIPPING  WORKS  ON  YOUR  BLOG.
WHAT  IS  YOUR  OTP  FOR  YOUR  CHARACTER ?
okay so since this is a multimuse, let me go down the list lmao. also, some of these reference oc x canon ships, but honestly, if you didn’t like those, what’re you doing here? also, re: lumine, this presumes her portrayal as an adult.
anyway, i can be talked into ships outside of these. for coryn and johanna specifically, they were initially created for their respective ships, but i’m willing to explore outside of those as well.
diluc: w zhongli; plus jean, childe, itto, lumine, and mona too
kaeya: albedo; plus doomedfate’s ivory, qucintly’s resse, jean, lisa, zhongli, lumine...
dvalin: currently i only ship him w my zhongli + doomedfate’s hoshi in a poly ship!
zhongli: is it fair to say w diluc? plus kaeya, albedo, and guizhong; i also have a poly ship w my dvalin + doomedfate’s hoshi.
johanna: diluc; i haven’t dwelt too much on dynamics outside of him, but
xiao: my xiao muse started out with an oc doomedfate wrote; also, albedo
osial: beisht; i also highkey love the idea of him and zhongli being exes
cloud retainer: therapy /j but really i haven’t thought abt anything for her
kokomi: ayaka; also sara
yuki: ayato; i’m open to other ships with this flirty bastard tho
itto: doomedfate’s therion; also diluc, kaeya, zhongli, albedo, and gorou
enjou: diluc; i still don’t know how this happened
eurydice: surprisingly i haven’t thought of dynamics with them!
lumine: so long as they’re not minors ( or aether! ), i can be convinced into a lot of ships with her
coryn: kaeya; i’ve thought here and there abt dynamics but nothing shippy or firm
WHAT  ARE  YOU  WILLING  TO  WRITE  WHEN  IT  COMES  TO  SHIPPING ?
i’m definitely only willing to smut when it comes to partners who i’ve grown to consider friends, complete with conversations and talk of things outside of the immediate roleplay. outside of that, flirty things are okay.
HOW  LARGE  DOES  THE  AGE  GAP  HAVE  TO  BE  TO  MAKE  IT  UNCOMFORTABLE ?
i’d prefer not to go below 18 at all, even for my lumine ( who appears 18 herself ). for younger muses i’d say 5-7+, for older muses who aren’t immortals, i’d say 7-10+. really depends on the dynamics presented though.
HOW  FAR  DO  STEAMY  MOMENTS  HAVE  TO  GO  BEFORE  THEY  ARE  CONSIDERED  N.SFW ?
beyond kissing and touches, or when the vibe is very clearly “oh oops they’re going somewhere”.
ARE  YOU  SELECTIVE  WHEN  SHIPPING ?
definitely. due to certain things that have happened in the past, i more or less have to trust you before throwing myself into a ship. some people i trust faster than others, but it still applies.
ARE  YOU  SHIP  OBSESSED  OR  SHIP  MORE-OR-LESS ?
looks at my ships. looks back at you. i guess obsessed? but it’s more like “i’m obsessed about shipping with (these people)” more than “i’m obsessed about shipping with (these muses)”.
WHO  ARE  OTHER  CHARACTERS  YOU  SHIP  YOUR  CHARACTER  WITH ?
oops, I answered all this in the first question.
DOES  ONE  HAVE  TO  ASK  TO  SHIP  WITH  YOU ?
yes, because i literally do not get hints. don’t be vague if you want to ship with certain muses, it will go right over my head lmao.
WHAT  IS  YOUR  FAVOURITE  SHIP  IN  YOUR  CURRENT  FANDOM ?
i’m currently obsessed over zhongluc, like, diluc “divorcee energy” ragnvindr and zhongli “retired archon” morax rex lapis, the layers of the phoenix/dragon dynamic, the combinations of aus...
ARE  YOU  MULTISHIP ?
yeah! i mean, very clearly i am, judging by the first question.
FINALLY,  HOW  DOES  ONE  SHIP  WITH  YOU ?
1. give me time to trust you ( or be cleared by a friend of mine who trusts you ) 2. ask 3. ??? 4. profit

Some folklore thoughts 💭🌲✨🏳️‍🌈
Part 1
I’m going to take it song by song while also tracking key themes in red! Please also feel free to add in your thoughts in the comments, I’m curious to see what else people think folklore is about...
folklore
‘folklore’ is defined as “a body of popular myths or beliefs relating to a particular place, activity, or group of people.” or, by Steve from Taylor’s IC,”the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by word of mouth.” Taylor herself in her introduction/prologue says  “A tale that becomes folklore is one that is passed down and whispered around. Sometimes even sung about. The lines between fantasy and reality blur and the boundaries between truth and fiction become almost indiscernible. Speculation, over time, becomes fact. Myths, ghost stories, and fables. Fairytales and parables. Gossip and legend. Someone’s secrets written in the sky for all to behold.”
the 1
- firstly, it’s the best opening track she’s ever had! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
- “I’m doing good, I’m on some new shit” = sounds to me like a conversation you have with an ex, like someone is saying “yeah I’m doing great, I’m dating/doing ‘x’” the first time they run into their ex in a while.
-“I thought I saw you at the bus stop” has BIG “this city screams your name” energy but is also very clever by Taylor because Miss Karlie Kloss is ALWAYS on advertisements on bus stops/literal buses around the globe 🚌
- “I hit the Sunday matinee” to me seems like an inside thing, because obviously as the world biggest pop star, if taylor is going to go to the theatre or cinema, she’ll pick the least busy and most filled with older people which would be the Sunday matinee.
- “you know the greatest films of all time were never made” —> the greatest love stories never get told? happen behind the scenes? There’s something deeper here but I’m still forming the cohesive idea!
- “if you wanted me you really should’ve showed” = showed up or showed for the world, either way Taylor wanted KK to chose her not Josh so they could work but that didn’t happen so now she’s left to wonder.
- “roaring twenties” evokes two clear images for me! 1. They were both in their 20s for the entiretyof their relationship, the best years were spent together and 2. The Roaring 20s were a time of independence, pushing boundaries and breaking the rules of prohibition - which is basically what Taylor and Karlie were doing behind the scenes.
- “if my wishes came true, it would’ve been you” = let’s say, ONLY FOR ARGUMENTS SAKE, that Taylor really IS with Toe, that still means that this song is her yearning for someone else who she always loves more AND had to lose at some point. Looking at her past beards “relationships”, there are only two plausible options - Joe (which seems unlikely seeing as they’re still “together”) or CH who she supposedly wrote “you would’ve been the one if you were a better man” about. Either way doesn’t seem like it fits. However, if you look at it as Karlie is the 1, it becomes clear - it would’ve been fun being best friends and lovers for ever baking cookies and dancing around the kitchen, it would’ve been forever if Karlie hadn’t “married” jerk, it would’ve been her and it still is. 💗
- “in my defense I have none, for never leaving well enough alone” & “I know that I went psycho on the phone, I never leave well enough alone” are about the same moment with the same person = she didn’t leave well enough alone because she kept writing about Karlie and re-engaging us Kaylors as well as I’m sure, she kept up with seeing Karlie or keeping tabs on her to the point where it forced someone to reach out to the other.... she can’t apologise or defend her actions because you can’t explain the things you do for true love.
- “I have this dream you’re doing cool shit” aka starting a podcast, expanding businesses, making headway as an entrepreneur and being a highly-paid and respected international model? Seems straight forward 👀
- “you meet some woman on the Internet and take her home” = 1. Karlie is specifically interested in tech and the internet, it is literally her entire business and 2. if Karlie and Tay did break up, then because Karlie is actually NOT married to Josh, she hooked up with someone she met through the internet somehow (probs social media not an app) and Taylor found out this is probably a snarky comment about that from a jealous ex. Could possibly also be about the dream mentioned above. 💔🔐
- “another day waking up alone” = lost her lover, sleeps alone? Bold claim on opening tack.
- “persist and resist” = very famous feminist saying, civil rights/political echo?
- “the temptation to ask you if one thing had been different, would everything be different today” = this what if mentality continues through the album but personally, I think this is about Kissgate.
- “Rosé flowing with your chosen family” = repeats later, your chosen family could refer to Karlie’s group of friends like Derek and Jourdan etc.
- “would’ve been sweet if it could’ve been me” = flipped perspective, wishes Karlie chose her.
- “dragging up the grave another time” = firstly, THAT pin on her EW jacket now makes more sense. second, Taylor has written about Karlie for 4 straight albums now, she hasn’t let their love story die even if they did.
-
cardigan
- “brand new phone” = this is not some story, this is current reality. Taylor hides behind era-specific language and imagery in some other songs but this one is clearly about here and now, and her.
- “sensual politics” to me stands out because only really here and in TLGAD is politics explicitly mentioned and sensual politics to me screams sleeping with someone for political gain or with political connections which certainly sounds like someone...
- “when you’re young, they assume you know nothing” = sounds to me like a lot like a) love story and b) “you don’t know you’re gay, it’s just a PHASE! you’ll grow out of it!” 🏳️‍🌈
- “chase 2 girls, lose the one” = supposedly, when KK and TS met, Taylor was still in love/entangled with Dianna so perhaps she’s reflecting on making the wrong choice?
- CIWYW links: my baby’s high above the whole scene—> heartbeat on the high line, tidbit:as is clear in both Lover & 1989 New York is a sacred place for TS and KK’s love story, the high line is a) a beautiful NYC icon and b) right in between the girls’ two places...
- as mentioned, miss Karlie ELIZABETH Kloss was the brand model for Levi’s and definitely has worn some sequins and black lipstick on cobblestones sooooo.... 🤷🏼‍♀️
- “you drew stars around my scars” = see Drake’s birthday party and the infamous third Polaroid mystery 👀
- “stepping on the last train” could mean one of two things to me; 1. The last resort for KK was marrying J*sh or 2. the last train could represent some goodbye the girls had where KK chose something/someone else over Taylor.
- “peter losing Wendy” is such an interesting metaphor on so many levels but specifically, Wendy loses Peter because she wakes up (from nearly dying but nvm) and grows up and stops believing in Neverland and magic, basically Wendy loses an attachment to Peter because her reality shifts and that’s what gets remembered especially in the Disney version of the story. HOWEVER, the opposite is also true meaning Peter Pan loses Wendy because he can never co-exist with her again, he can never grow up or bring her back to Neverland without either killing her or ruining her. So this idea that someone wanted to change the ending from peter losing Wendy because he had to do what was best for her because he loved her echoes as Karlie didn’t want to marry Jerk or hurt Taylor but had to in order to protect her. Right? 😅
- “leaving like a father, running like water” = Taylor’s parents got divorced and there’s SOME thoughts Scott left the house and Taylor lives with her Mom in Nashville in her teen years.
- “I knew everything when I was young” - Taylor has always know she was LGBT+ 🌈 and also, baby VSFS vibes because as we all know, “we were both young when I first saw you...” send tweet.
- “I knew you’d come back to me” hopefully, HOPEFULLY foreshadows the girls being together/coming out soon !!!!!!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
- music video wise, I’ll do a break down soon.
TLGAD
- ‘Rebekkah’ refers to the previous owner of Taylor’s Watch Hill, RI house, Rebekah Harkness. She was a divorcee until marrying Standard Oil heir William (aka Bill) Hale Harkness, a new-money dynasty was formed in this time from their profit. There are MANY wild, whimsical stories about ‘Betty’ (which is obviously an extended metaphor of folklore)  that this song tries to re-create/recapture.
- Taylor is also known as ‘Becky’ due to the popular meme so this is quite literally a play on her own character as well as the previous inhabitants of the house.
- St Louis is not only Rebekkah’s hometown, but also Karlie Elizabeth Kloss’.
- “the wedding was charming, if a little gouche” seems like a direct shot fired at Karlie’s woodsy photoshoot of 2018 😂😂(ironically, folklore’s key aesthetic is the woods!!)
- “it must’ve been her fault his heart gave out” refers explicitly to William dying of a heart attack in the house, but subtly I feel like this is a dig at the media who constantly blame women for things they cannot control, as they have done with Taylor too many times to even count.
- “who knows if she never showed up, what could’ve been” seems like Taylor is stuck thinking about what may have happened for her and Karlie if things had been different, see the 1.
- “she/I had a marvellous time ruining everything” is such an incredibly provoking lyric on two fronts, 1. obviously taylor buying her RI house had a massive impact on an otherwise sleepy holiday town that is now more famous for Taylor’s july 4 parties than anything else and 2. seems introspective or personal, as if the things that ruined everything for Karlie and Taylor were the best and most marvellous parts of their relationship (big sur, kissgate etc.)
- “flew in all her bitch pack friends from the city” is not only about the friends and celebs Rebekkah was notorious for hosting but also Taylor’s ‘bitches and model’ girl gang circa 2015 which includes one Karlie Kloss.
- “blew through the money on the boys and the ballet” refers to Rebekkah’s love of wasting her fortune on things, including a ballet company that went under not long after she created it BUT also refers to Taylor paying so many boys to be her beards and PR stunts whilst also spending her money on a certain ex-Ballerina. Also remember her AMA’s performance of Lover/ bts of Shake It Off? 😉😉😉
- “50 years is a long time” - 50 seems deliberate, a bit of a reach but note it WAS the 50th anniversary of Stonewall last year. 🏳️‍🌈
-  “free of women with madness, their men and bad habits and THEN IT WAS BOUGHT BY ME.” - this clearly shows that ALL the songs are being narrated by Taylor, some of the lyrics are about her, some are about these fictional or fantastical characters she’s created but there is her truth behind all of them too.
- “the loudest woman this town has ever seen” = Taylor is undoubtedly the most famous woman in the town who regualrly causes uproar there (see the Sea Wall debacle and the Taylor Swift Tax)
- in all, the two famed women owner’s of Holiday House have many overlaps and are forever intertwined.
exile
- “i can see you standing honey with his arms around your body” as the opening line is LOUD. to me, feels like this is about ALL those staged photos of Josh and Karlie uncomfortable/fake as hell on social media.
- “laughing but the joke’s not funny at all” is something we’ve all thought about Karlie’s marriage before and is about that moment where if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry at the situation.
- “it took you 5 whole minutes to pack up ... holding all this love out here in the hall” to me is about someone moving out of a shared home, like Karlie from Taylor’s NYC apartment, after a break up or fight. We know it is MORE than likely that the girls’ broke up, for a while or for good, in 2017/18.
- “I think I’ve seen this film before, and didn’t like the ending” is a lot like “Cause cruelty wins in the movies, I've got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you” / “All of my heroes die all alone.” which makes me truly believe that delicate > the archer > exile are all the progression of the same love story.  ❤️
- “now I’m in exile seeing you out” = both of them have lost their home, exiled from the relationship.
- “I can see you staring honey, like he’s just your understudy” has a lot to unpack. Firstly, see this photo. Second, as a beard, Joe is quite literally Karlie’s understudy - stepping in only to fill a public void or play her part when she can’t.
- “like you’d get your knuckles bloody for me” is basically this tweet
- “second, third and hundredth chances” - hopefully this means the girls WILL be together again soon!!!
- “those eyes add insult to injury” - Taylor has often made explcit reference to her lover’s eyes, but this could also mean the eyes of the public on her every move and relationship not allowing her to properly grapple with break ups. 👁️
-  “i’m not your problem anymore, so who am i offending?” - homophobes love to say wlw or mlm relationships “offend” them or their beliefs, so who could taylor be offending if she’s publicly in a straight relationship?
- “you were my crown”, Taylor was/is Karlie’s princess, if Karlie is gone, Taylor doesn’t feel like she’s a princess anymore. Likewise, Karlie is Taylor’s sunshine which makes the moody, misty, dark aesthetics all the more relevant to this album.
- “so I’m leaving out the side door’ - this side door? the other side of the door?
- “all of this time, we always walked a very thin line” between outing themselves and being happy?
- “I gave so many signs” - Taylor has queercoded EVERY album since her self-titled, she has been dropping hints and signs for years that she is LGBT+ so it must be exhausting to have to keep hiding who she loves. This is repeated so many times - it means a lot.
- written with William Bowery who nobody can quite identify, but Karlie and Taylor have been to the Bowery many times together and William is mentioned earlier in TLGAD
- this whole song is a duet, a two-sided conversation between lovers - her and karlie both without each other.
my tears ricochet
- Track 5 is, as per usual, deeply confessional, personal, emotive and moving. 😿😿
- there are lots of theories and layers to this masterpiece of a song, including that it’s in reference to big machine. I personally think every single song of Taylor’s is made up of layers that reflect multiple things in her life and experience so plausibly it can be about multiple things all at once including Sco** and Scumbag as well as Karlie, who was under Scumbag’s management for the majority of the decade. Another theory which with every new listen I think is more and more possible is that this is alternating between Taylor and Karlie’s perspectives.
- ‘if i’m on fire, you’ll be made of ashes too” whoever is associated with Taylor will ALWAYS be dragged down with her. If she’s being attacked, they will be too. Big 2016 energy.
- “even on my worst day, did I deserve babe, all the hell you gave me?” could be directed at a lover, or at Big Machine, or even the public for all the shit they’ve said about Taylor over the years.
- “I swear I loved you ‘till my dying day” seems a lot like the 1, as well as could be about the music and the label she helped build.
- “I didn’t have it within myself to go with grace.” Taylor was LOUD about her split from Big Machine, she called them out (rightly) and made noise which is not a ‘graceful’ split.
- “you’re the hero flying around saving face” very easily is about S+S jackasses but deeper than that, while Taylor was under immense attack and criticism, everyone who actually like her music pretended suddenly to hate it and her to stay ‘cool’
- “cause if I’m dead to you why are you at the wake?” this lyric becomes especially important in the final verse but essentially those who publicly distanced themself from Taylor still showed up when she was thriving again and/or because they actually truly loved her *uhmm karlie uhmm*
- “cursing my name, wishing I stayed” either at Big Machine or with Karlie/Taylor.
- “some to make a diamond ring” > firstly we still have never understood the ring image from the LWYMMD and ME! videos, it is entirely possible this is a continuation of that same symbol/image. Second, I think this hints to Karlie getting ‘engaged’ while still being with Taylor, the rock for the ring in the song was found by the two people gathering stones after all.
- “you know i didn't want to have to haunt you” both Taylor and Karlie have big reputations all over the world that follow them everywhere. For either one, they will always be haunted by reminders of each other.
- “you wear the same jewels that I gave you as you bury me” - on the Big Machine side, Taylor made the label professional and big, she is literally the sole reason it succeeded in the music industry so she handed Sco** his fortune and reputation which he still had when he sold her music to Scumbag and got into a very dirty bed with him. From the Karlie side, many people have noted that not only does she wear her black cartier necklace, which is assumed to be from Taylor, but to her ‘wedding’ wore a necklace she’d worn before with Taylor.
- “when I’d fight you’d tell me I was brave” could refer to Sco** encouraging her in 2016 to defend herself. Could refer to Karlie supporting her behind the scenes.
- ‘and I can go anywhere I want, just not home” seems like a continuation from exile, as in she’s lost the place she called home because her lover is no longer there but could also mean she can’t go back to her other albums and the house (see the lover music video) that they created as her musical home.
- “you will still miss me in your bones” could be about Sco** losing his money and label without her there to physically support and carry it or about the fact that the love Taylor and Karlie had is so ingrained it’s in their bones forever.
- “and i still talk to you when I’m screaming at the sky” this lyric has a lot of possible interpretations (i’ve seen one about cursing out God?) but i think it’s similar to “asking the traffic lights if i’ll be alright” as in, it’s Taylor asking the universe to help her make sense of things.
- “when you can’t sleep at night, you hear my stolen lullabies” suggests a) sco** + scumbag is still haunted by the music they stole from Taylor because it was literally the backbone of the business which is now practically worthless and b) that Karlie is kept awake by the songs Taylor has written for and about her over the years which again were stolen away by the jackasses at Big Machine.
- “you had to kill me, but it killed you just the same” again, same idea - big machine will never be profitable without her/while they hold her masters hostage. BUT Karlie wise, breaking up with Taylor broke her too?
- this is where the song changes. it shifts from Taylor’s story to someone else’s, personally I think Karlie.
- “you turned into your worst fears” as in she settled for the money and sold her values off by marrying Josh. Also, Karlie was under Scumbag’s management for years (part of Taylor’s hatred of him was him keeping the girls’ from doing as they pleased) so by being completely controlled by him, she turned into this completely fake person. Contrast 2014/15 Karlie with 2017/18 Karlie and it so much more all about PR and money.
- “you’re tossing out blame, drunk on this pain, crossing out the good years” - sco** and scumbag have made so many false excuses for their behaviour and completely erased the good relationship between the Swifts and sco**. Not sure yet what the Karlie side is here but it’s here somewhere.
- in conclusion, this is about Big Machine and Karlie. As the first song Taylor wrote for the album, I think it’s clear just how incredibly multi-faceted this album is. ☕☕☕
mirrorball
- first off, we can never forget about this and this look from both girls. ✨✨
- “I’ll to show you every version of yourself tonight”, the public and the private sides to them both. this is big glass closet energy in my opinion
- “and when I break it’s in a million pieces” is so personal and heartbreaking. 2016 and Kaylor breakup vibes. I cannot elaborate at this time.
- “when no one is around my dear” = the secrecy, forbidden love motif returns and again, if she’s in a hetero relationship, what’s to hide?
- “you’ll find me on my tallest tiptoes”, Just an fyi, Karlie, a giraffe, is 6′2″, Taylor is 5′10″ -- thats a big difference. 🦒🦒🦒
-  “i know they said the end is near” = end of the relationship or the end of hiding it, either way, it’s a romantic last private moment together, swaying as the room burns down.
- “i can change everything about me to fit in” = Taylor when she was starting out was forced to create this all innocent, american-girl image of herself. She has had to hide herself to succeed, as she said in Miss Americana, she was muzzled.
- “you are not like the regulars, the masquerade revelers” = Karlie is different to everyone else, or any other ex, ‘masquerade’ implies masked or hidden figures at a party, very Love Story
- “and the called off the circus, burned the disco down” = the ‘circus’ could be the media/public, or all the illusions Taylor has cast in order to appear straight. The ‘disco’, and Taylor is the ‘mirror ball’ to her lover means that this isolated existence of just the two of them.
- “I’m still on that tightrope, I’m still trying everything” for now, she’s still closeted, she’s still trying to have the best of everything.
- “I’m still a believer, but I don’t know why” believer in everything working out perhaps, or perhaps believing it’s better if she’s in the closet and it’s only the two of them.
- “never been a natural” = she has completely created herself through years off trying to be what people want, not who she naturally is.
seven
- “picture me” implies this is retrospective of Taylor, she’s reflecting on her childhood/youth.
- “I hit my peak at Seven” could either refer to the age 7 or album 7, ‘Lover’ which many critics argued was her best work.
- “Over the creek I was too scared to jump in” = fear of jumping is something Taylor has discussed in many songs but this is different, the creek represents something she fears will drown her.
- “High in the sky with Pennsylvania under me” = obviously, Taylor was born and raised in rural PA, so this truly is a childhood memory unearthed and explored. It’s personal to Taylor, it’s her story. 👏🏼
- “Are there still beautiful things?”  Recognizing the world isn’t all daisies and rainbows
- “cross your heart, don’t tell no other” = again, secret keeping and hiding something is a big queer image, ‘cross your heart’ is a quite childish phrase but it’s adult equivalent in Taylor’s world is an NDA, ie swearing people to secrecy is something she's always known... 🔐
- “Although i can’t recall your face, I still got love for you” = this childhood love has faded with time to memories, this girl simultaneously forgotten and remembered.
- “Your braids like a pattern” = definitely about a girl (1996 rural Pennsylvania was not the kind of place where boys had braids), specific use of YOUR pronoun not ‘my’ or ‘our’ suggesting again it’s about a girl. Very obviously about a first girl crush. 🌈
- “passed down like folk songs, the love lasts so long” = firstly, reference to Neruda’s poem Taylor used in the red prologue. second, folksongs change slightly from generation to generation but the heart/melody remains the same meaning that in Taylor’s mind, the story of her first girl love has changed but it’s still the same song/story all the years later. also, clearly a reminder of the setting of the song and the album as a whole being folklore. 💛
- “your dad is always mad and that must be why” feels a lot like Love Story and forbidden love, also again rural Pennsylvania in the mid-1990s was not the most liberal place so I can imagine a lot of homophobic ideas that perforated Taylor’s childhood.
- “I think you should come live with me” is such an innocent image of someone in love and wanting to just fix things by bringing them home, it also is like a baby gay version of uhauling
- “we could be pirates” = pirates are not just a childhood image/motif but also one historically seen as gay, gangs of pirates often had ‘mateolage’ agreements that basically were like widow’s benefits. See John Swann. ☠️
- “you won’t have to cry, or hide in the closet.” = I think this one is explicitly clear but just to be sure, Taylor could’ve said “hide when he lost it, hide if you wanted, hide in the woods too” etc. Read this for a full understanding of why it such a LOUD image to use.  It is VERY DELIBERATE PEOPLE. 🌈🌈🌈
- “just like a folk song, our love will be passed on” = different from the first bridge but deliberate again. Their story, aka Taylor liking girls from a young age will always be talked about, AND their love lives in this song she wrote.
- “picture me in the weeds before I learned civility” = again, given the homophobic attitude, ‘civility’ and straightness should be read as the same so Taylor is saying when she was a child, free in the grass and herself, she wants to always be.
- “I used to scream ferociously any time I wanted” = she wasn’t muzzled as a child, she could say and be who she wanted, screaming it aloud for everyone to hear but that changed as she grew up.
- “pack your dolls and a sweater, we’ll move to India forever” = ‘dolls’ again would imply it’s two girls running away together and India is this exocitc far off place to a child, a place where they can be together without anyone knowing them or controlling them.
August
- Karlie Kloss is born in August. Karlie Kloss posted yesterday about being a Leo (an August born). August belongs to Karlie Kloss. 🦁♌
- “rust on your door” = image of something well-worn, perhaps someone who’s been here too a few times before?
- “whispers of are you sure?” = obviously there is the sexual connotation, but beyond that, what if it’s about Taylor and Karlie going public etc.
- “never have I ever before” = see above but also the game ‘never have I ever’ evokes youthfulness and sounds almost like a reminder of a fun night with friends.
- “I can see us lost in the memory” = implies they’re still together, losing themself in the memory together
- “I can see us twisted in bedsheets” = again, sexual imagery but also the intimacy of sharing a bed with the person you love after sex
- “Like a bottle of wine” = matures the song a bit, the youthfulness of earlier is now more adult. 21 is America’s drinking age, 20s were mentioned early etc. 🍷
- “Cause you were never mine” = the whole of Taylor and Karlie’s relationship, Karlie has publically been dating Josh so she was never solely Taylor’s.
- “Will you call when you’re back at school?” = Karlie attended NYU in 2015, the height of Kaylor.
- “back when we were still changing for the better” = instead of changing to adapt/survive or keep up appearances.
- “wanting was enough” = wanting Karlie without labels was enough, rather than having to go public etc. Many have said for a long time that Karlie and Taylor fought about coming out or not.
- “cancel plans in case you would call” = sounds like a very love-sick Taylor Swift thing to do. Also waiting on a lover’s call when they constantly are travelling like both Karlie and Taylor do makes sense. ☎️
- “so much for summer love” = cruel summer echo? Summer 2015 was again, peak Kaylor so this could be a specific reference to that period
- “Do you remember? Remember when I pulled up and said ‘get in the car’” another specific reference, comes up again later in Betty, clearly is something personal.
- “Back when I was still living for the hope of it all” = back as in the past when everything was happening, hope of it all being the hope they’d still end up together.
TO SUM UP PART 1:
BENEATH ALL FICTION OR MYTH IS FACT & FEELING. Taylor is no longer hiding. Yes, some of these songs are about stories and people not her but there is so much of herself and her own story layered in too. PAY ATTENTION!!! Obviously, these are just my opinions, I’m not Taylor so I cannot know exactly what these songs are about but I think, after years of analyzing her music, these images/themes and deliberate word choice are well-versed in this part of the fandom. It is entirely possible this is the beginning of Taylor’s full, public coming out journey.
I’ll be back with Part 2 tomorrow.  Stay Tuned!

Gold Rush and Happiness are Sisters
Gather round everyone and witness the clown try to prove that Taylor Swift wrote songs about a married (now pregnant) woman in the year of our lord 2020.
Also this is a seven page doc in my google docs so like. Get a cup of tea and some popcorn.
Ok full disclosure this is…..mostly me clowning. Like seriously. Don’t take my words as the word of God, this is just my interpretation and how I listen to the songs. And as a (former? Idk man) Kaylor I’m going to want to make these songs about my ship. Acknowledge your biases kids.
Also like. I change my mind a lot, but for a while this theory that Gold Rush and Happiness are connected has been stuck in my head and I wanted to write it down and post it in case anyone else got something out of this.
If you read my last post on Gold Rush (here!) you’ll know I don’t think of it as a happy song. To elaborate further- I think it’s Taylor catching herself looking back on Karlie/that time in her life (Because I think Karlie is emblematic of the 1989 era for Taylor and is thus tied to the pain that came out of that, along with her ties to the masters heist) and reminding herself it wasn’t good and ended for a reason.
“Gleaming, twinkling/eyes like sinking ships on waters/so inviting, I almost jump in”
“But I don’t like a gold rush”
The sinking ship line makes me laugh. I like to think it’s Taylor saying she’s literally sunk our (dead) ship, but that’s mostly regressing to 2015 tumblr humur.
To the actual analysis, she almost jumps into these waters, maybe it’s literal (don’t text your ex kids, write a bop like closure instead) or maybe it’s more metaphorical. She almost allows herself to think the good times were the only times. Maybe there’s a desire to move back to nyc, capture the magic that she may have felt during the era.
“I don’t like that flying feels like falling till the bone crush”
But that’s the thing. It feels like flying at the time, but it isn’t a feeling that can last. These relationships built on temporary promises (we’re assuming here Taylor was a side thing for Karlie, not that serious and built not to last, even if there were genuine romantic feelings on both sides, which I think there were to some level) won’t last, and will hurt when they do end. At least, this one did.
“Everyone wonders what it would be like to love you”
Everybody wants who she’s singing about and is imagining what it would be like to be with them, they think it would be a fairytale. Hell, Taylor probably thought their relationship would be a fairytale against her better judgement. Karlie is a celebrity and a model no less, yes she has other things going for her (Koding and investments), her brand and her success in the fashion world depends to some degree people desiring and fantasizing about her.
“I don’t like that anyone would die to feel your touch”
The funny thing about that, Taylor’s the only one who knows the pain of that relationship, of being a side thing and never committed to. It’s draining. It's difficult. She isn’t allowing herself to jump into those waters.
“I see me padding across your wooden floor/with my Eagles t shirt hanging on the door”
I point out this line mostly because it feels like a Delicate call back (Echoes of your footsteps on the stairs). Am I reaching though? Probably. Also as someone with parents about the same age as Taylor’s (give or take ten years), I like the Eagles reference. Stream Hotel California for clear skin <3
“At dinner parties, I call you out on your contrarian shit”
Taylor was the first person to call Karlie out on her “I’ve tried!!” bullshit, how cute. <3
Besides this line being very iconic, it also shows to me that Taylor’s been frustrated with Kar even when she was busy giving her heart eyes. She’s a frustrating person to be around even when you are “turning her life into folklore”.
“What must it be like to grow up that beautiful?/With your hair falling into place like dominoes”
Damn that’s a gay couples lines you got there Tay. Wonder if you’re wondering what it must’ve been like for Kar to grow up in the model industry, and all of the pressure and exhilaration that entails. From a male’s perspective ofc.
I also take the dominoes line to be Taylor saying what must’ve it been like to have this easy idyllic childhood. Maybe Taylor is the first time Karlie’s been with a girl outside of a hookup and didn’t have to go through the pain of realizing she was into women until later in life. (Not that that’s not painful, it’s just different, and allows you to have a perfectly straight childhood/teenagerhood)
“And the coastal town we wandered 'round had nеver seen a love as pure as it/And thеn it fades into the gray of my day-old tea/'Cause it could never be”
Maybe this relationship never existed in the way she thought at all. You know Carrie Fischer’s character in When Harry Met Sally and how until she meets the right guy, she spends the whole movie insisting that whatever married guy she’s seeing really loves her!! And he’s gonna leave his wife for her!! That’s what these two songs make me think about, waking up and realizing they were never going to leave their wife, you were projecting this whole story onto someone else, but that doesn’t mean there was no value in what happened.
“And the coastal town we never found will never see a love as pure as it/'Cause it fades into the gray of my day-old tea/'Cause it will never be”
The coastal town seems an obvious Rhode Island reference, to get more specific it reminds me of when Josh and Karlie visited Taylor at her Rhode Island home in 2014 and Josh looks peeved as hell. 1, 2 Also if I remember correctly, enty has a blind where he says there was a huge fight between Josh and Taylor which ended in Taylor not wanting to be around him again. Just interesting to note. (And if anyone has the receipt, please send it my way!)
Taylor may have been projecting this fairytale narrative at the time of being able to make it work, of being friends with Josh even but it didn’t work and the fairytale is left to be folklore, never made real.
The outro is the same as the intro to the song, implying to me that while she’s telling herself it was bad, you weren’t happy, she’s still catching herself missing it and what she had with Karlie. She left a part of her back in New York see, and she can’t stop her mind from retracing old footsteps.
Now, onto how I think Happiness and how I think it connects. I’m about to audition for the national team in the reaching Olympics. Wish me luck. :)
A bit of a preamble though, I don’t take this song ~super~ literally. Depending on what day of the week it is I think it’s probably her divorcee rpg simulator or her closing the book on her ex situationship gf on her own terms ~in a straight way~. So not to discredit this whole ass post but. Take with a grain of salt.
“Honey, when I'm above the trees/I see this for what it is”
See that bold bit? That’s the main connective tissue between these songs. She’s finally woken up and now that she’s this far removed from the relationship she sees what it was. To add to the pain of it all, this is especially potent if you wonder if Karlie gaslit Tay into thinking this wasn’t a big deal, they were just fucking around when Karlie has literal Softest Love Song You Are In Love dedicated to her.
“But now I'm right down in it, all the years I've given/Is just shit we're dividin' up”
This seems to me to be a masters heist reference. Karlie since Lover, is musically tied to this event in Taylor’s life, it’s what I think is keeping Tay from making a clean break from her so to speak.
“Showed you all of my hiding spots/I was dancing when the music stopped”
This seems to be a Rep era/dwoht reference. Yes, Taylor constantly references dancing, but the hiding spots (loved you in secret! you had turned my bed into a sacred oasis!) combined with the dancing when the music stopped (I'd kiss you as the lights went out! Swaying as the room burned down!) brings out the full kaylor clown in me.
“There'll be happiness after you/But there was happiness because of you/Both of these things can be true”
This is probably some of the most gut wrenching lyrics Taylor’s ever written. Damn, imagine having that written about you. Anyway, the point here is the thesis of this whole damn post. Gold Rush is Taylor catching herself daydreaming about the happy parts, and reminding herself about the bad to make her snap out of it. Happiness is her coming to terms that both parts of that relationship were true. Things aren’t that simple.
“Haunted by the look in my eyes/That would've loved you for a lifetime/Leave it all behind”
This feels very Cruel Summer doesn’t it? “I love you ain’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard?” These lines make this relationship read as two things to me. One, it was very one sided, and Taylor/the narrator, was obviously left behind at the end of it when she was heavily invested into making this work. And 2, it was doomed from the beginning. Again. Big cruel summer energy here.
Or it’s a divorcee rpg simulator 3000. Now with extra glamour and opportunities to dramatically drink wine in dressing gowns.
I don’t have a lot to say about the second verse of the song that. Karlie has a nice smile, Gatsby reference, dig at whoever the next person to take Taylor’s place as a side fling (or a dig at Josh, or a baby reference since that’s what the Gatsby line refers to). The only other thing worthy of note for this post is the line following the Gatsby reference.
“No, I didn't mean that/Sorry, I can't see facts through all of my fury”
is the next line, where she regrets what she just said and admits to saying overly harsh things and overlooking the truth of the matter when she’s angry, which to me feels like a big Afterglow/Me! reference.
“There'll be happiness after me/But there was happiness because of me/Both of these things, I believe”
I think a lot of what Taylor’s doing emotionally in the chorus is legitimizing this relationship for herself. Yeah, Josh and Karlie will have a happy life in Florida with Ivanka and them, but Taylor also made Karlie happy too and she doesn’t want Karlie to forget it.
It reminds me of the way she talks about August, that she genuinely loves James/Karlie, and thinks they have something. But she’s just the pit stop on the commitment highway, and the depth of her feelings for the other person will never be acknowledged. It’s exhausting you know?
“In our history, across our great divide”
“Guilty, guilty reaching out across the sea/That you put between you and me”
Nothing to see here, just a nifty parallel. Karlie doesn’t want wrinkles in her new life see.
“There is a glorious sunrise/Dappled with the flickers of light/From the dress I wore at midnight, leave it all behind/And there is happiness”
This bit (which has some of my favorite imagery in this whole dang album!!!) reminds me of the end of the Wildest Dreams mv where she runs out to the car with the lover following her after the big charade of pretending not to care as much as she does, while knowing you aren’t the one that got picked.
Interestingly, if you look at the shot of the four characters together near the end, the outfits parallel the ones worn by Kar, Tay, and Josh at the 2014 Met Gala. This was of course the one where Tay and Kar got ready together and Karlie proceeded to spend the night with Josh and where Tay just looks. Miserable. (see here!)
The line also parallels Wildest Dreams lyrically.
“Say you'll remember me standing in a nice dress/Staring at the sunset, babe”
Which you know. Worth noting.
The last line (And there is happiness) seems to point to there being happiness in leaving the bad situation just as much as there was happiness in the situation. It’s Time to Go anyone?
“I can't make it go away by making you a villain/I guess it's the price I paid for seven years in Heaven”
A series of thoughts. One, I love the first line where Taylor acknowledges anger isn’t going to make it better. There’s only so much being angry in this situation will do, and it’s not like Taylor’s record is clean here either. (I mean I assume. We know she went psycho on the phone anyway)
Two. Seven years in heaven is both a play on a famous game/turn of phrase (Seven minutes in heaven) but one of the more bold references to Karlie in her whole damn discography. Do I think they’ve been together for seven years straight? Not really. But do I think Taylor saw an opportunity and jumped on it? Yep.
“And I pulled your body into mine/Every goddamn night, now I get fake niceties”
No thoughts head empty this line is a sucker punch and I love it. If anyone needs me I’ll be watching her perform ikywt on the vsfs and crying to yail.
“All you want from me now is the green light of forgiveness”
Oh look! Another Gatsby reference. Or Taylor calling Karlie out on profiting off of her association with Tay after they clearly did not end on good terms. (Folklore themed maternity shoot anyone?) I mean, whatever floats your boat.
A bit on the green light metaphor from Gatsby, because it’s worth noting even if I don’t have much more to say on it here.
“Situated at the end of Daisy’s East Egg dock and barely visible from Gatsby’s West Egg lawn, the green light represents Gatsby’s hopes and dreams for the future. Gatsby associates it with Daisy, and in Chapter 1 he reaches toward it in the darkness as a guiding light to lead him to his goal.”
Yes I copied that from Spark Notes. No I am not sorry. I have an exam tomorrow and I’m writing about a dead ship on a dead social media website. Sometimes we do what we must do.
I love the ending of this song, I really really do, it feels like taking in a breath of air and finally feeling free of the weight you’re carrying. It feels like a final goodbye, like Tay’s getting closure on her own terms and I truly love that for her. Bb’s stepping out into the daylight. <3
There is happiness
In our history, across our great divide
There is a glorious sunrise
Dappled with the flickers of light
From the dress I wore at midnight, leave it all behind
Oh, leave it all behind
Leave it all behind
And there is happiness
So, what was this whole seven page post for then?
Gold Rush and Happiness being connected has been a theory rattling around in my brain for forever and I’ve wanted to write it down for just as long. The tldr of it all is pretty simple, Gold Rush is about her reminiscing about the good parts of Kaylor, and pulling herself out of it, reminding herself it was bad and bad for her. Happiness is her legitimizing the relationship, and moving on while acknowledging there was bad and good in their story. It just took me seven goddamn pages to articulate that.
If you’ve reached the end of this. Damn. Thanks. Go get a snack or something, you deserve it after reading this.

Survival of the Fittest
Summary: Welcome to the Badlands of Montana! This will be the setting of our game. What’s the name of the game? Simple, make it out alive. In which you and Jaemin are kidnapped and forced to try and find your way out of the Badlands.
Masterlist | Main Masterlist
“What’s that?” Jaemin asks as he walks over and picks up his sweatshirt.
“I think it’s a walkie-talkie.”
As soon as the words leave your mouth, the device comes to life. “Numbers 24 and 25.”
---Part 5
You and Jaemin freeze at the voice, turning to look at each other with wide eyes. Once Theos’ voice continues, your attention is brought down to the device in your hand.
“In past experiments, I have refrained from talking to my subjects until later, but I decided to make an exception for you.
“In the past, I’ve had subjects that took a day to move from the starting point; I’ve had subjects that started the game by going in the wrong direction; I’ve had subjects that missed the first bag; and even some that missed all three. But you two, you two are by far my most promising batch.”
As the words hit your ears, your stomach flips. His voice is like the voice of a proud father whose child won first place in a competition.
“Now, you might not be the first batch to escape, but there’s no doubt in my mind you two will be the cream of the crop so to say.”
“If we’ve already proven ourselves, why don’t you tell us we’re walking in the right direction? Rewarding good behavior and all.”
You’re surprised by the strength in Jaemin’s voice. Despite not having seen Theos, his voice alone is enough to scare you in a way you’ve never felt before.
“Instead, I’ll tell you why I chose you two to be my final subjects.”
You and Jaemin nervously glace at each other before looking back down at the device in your hand.
“I first saw you, Jaemin, at the grocery store. I remember thinking how weird it was that someone so young was shopping with someone even younger. So I followed you home, and I waited. I waited for three days, installing one of my cameras across the street so I could watch you without being there, and your parents never came home. So I went back to your house, waited until you and your sister were at school, and then broke in.”
Your head snaps up to look in Jaemin’s direction just in time to see the color slightly drain from his face. Your doom always had random people in it, your roommate is somewhat of a party person. Even if the parties were just five friends sitting on her bed, you learned to get over the uncomfortable feeling of random people in your space.
Jaemin shared a house with his family, presumably the house he and his sister grew up in. The idea of someone coming into something so private, someone as sick as Theos, was nauseating.
“Turns out, your parents left for Africa last year. You were left to take care of little Emma, even if she was a freshman at the time. Because that wasn’t the first time you had to take care of her, was it?”
“I don’t - this can’t have anything to do with why I’m here.”
Your heart breaks slightly how comparatively shaky his voice is, and it took everything in you not to look at him. He doesn’t need your questioning looks on top of everything else.
“Oh, but it does. You’ve taken care of Emma since you were in middle school, but not because you wanted to. If I learned anything from your parents’ service journal, they left you alone as soon as you turned ten. But if I had to guess, they weren’t around much before then.
“Reading those journals, along with that note Emma wrote you for your birthday thanking you for taking care of her, I knew I had to have you.”
Theos pauses, and you take the opportunity to try and mentally prepare yourself for “your story.”
“And then I saw you, y/n. If I’m being honest, I don’t know what first drew me to you. Maybe it was the countless hours you spent in the student lounge or the library while your roommate invited people over.”
You already felt sick for Jaemin, knowing this sicko had not only been watching him and his sister, but broke into their house and looked through their things. But knowing all that wasn’t enough to prepare you for the different kind of sickness that coursed through your body at the sound of your name.
“Or maybe it was the fact that after learning your name and searching for any social media, I couldn’t find any. I mean you have to admit, someone in this day in age not having any social media is pretty interesting. So when I wasn’t watching Jaemin, I was trying to find information on you. Eventually, I found your ex-husband, and I was shocked for the second time during my investigation. Here you are, a freshman in college, and you’re already a divorcee? I had to find out more. Skipping all the boring details, I managed to find out about your family.
“Your mom had been married three times, two alcoholics and one weirdo. If I’m right – that is, if Sam is right – you were kicked out at age 15? He also said that when you were kicked out, you lived with your dad. That he would refuse to take his medicine and would have seizures. He said you were always the person who had to take care of him.”
“Oh my God,” you whisper, bringing your hand to cover your mouth in shock.
You know the only person who would know that is Sam; he’s the only person you’ve told this to. You may not have spent a lot of time together, but the only condition Sam had for giving you the ticket here was that you told him about your life.
“I know you’re doing this as a test, but please tell me he’s okay?” You can feel Jaemin’s eyes on you, but you keep your eyes trained on the device.
“See, that’s the second plot twist I found in my research about you. Why would your ex-husband care so much about you? And judging from the fact he’s the last person you texted, I’d say you don’t hate him. After some convincing, I got Sam to tell me why you two got a divorce. He wants to love you, but he can’t. He’s aromantic.
“He told me he didn’t want to get too close to you in case you caught feelings for him. So instead of befriending you, he acted as cold to you as he could. He told me he could see how much you were struggling and that he liked it; it was easier for him to learn about your troubles instead of dealing with his own.”
“I know all this, I’m asking if you’ve hurt him.”
After hearing the strength in your voice, you understand how Jaemin was able to speak so confidently before. It isn’t about actually feeling in control, it’s about not letting the man spitting hurtful words at you win.
So yes, the reminder that even though you pretended not to know why Sam helped you, you knew why. That even though you told Jaemin he probably saw you as a charity case, the reality is, he saw you as a distraction. He used your problems to hide from his own, drinking in your life stories to ignore the fact he didn’t fit into the mold society had set.
He told you all this through a letter, apologizing for using you and acting the way you did. He explained that even though it started as a way to hide from his problems, it ended up
confirming the doubts he had. “I can’t stay married to you” he had written, “but if you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask. I owe you.”
When you read that, it wasn’t that he had used you that hurt most. It was that he was the one person you thought wouldn’t have the energy to be fake to you. You always thought Sam was just bored and looking for something to fix. He never tried to help you fix those relationships, instead offering a way out. It was refreshing to not have to deal with fake politeness.
As it turns out, he was fake from the very beginning. And after figuring that out, it was just easier to portray Sam as the man you thought he was.
“Did you love him? Or was he able to pull off that cold, distant personality better than I give him credit for?”
Theos’ voice draws you out of your thoughts, only to render you speechless once again. This entire time, the only thing you thought you had the upper hand on was that there was no one relying on you. You often pushed the thought of Jaemin’s sister from your mind. You know what it is like to be alone, and imagining that girl alone and scared for her brother’s safety made you anxious. With such thoughts for someone you didn’t know, you couldn’t help but feel relieved that no one was waiting for you.
Now that someone could be hurt because of you, someone you didn’t even love, you felt like you were suffocating. He had hurt you, but he didn’t deserve to be wrapped up in this.
“I’ll let your silence speak for itself. You’ll be happy to hear that he’s safe with the subjects that escaped. I hope you feel special number 25, I haven’t had to kidnap anyone for information before.”
He laughs to himself, and you imagine he meant it as a genuine compliment.
“As I said at the start of this game, I think you two are my most promising batch. You both have someone to live for, someone who depends on you. Both of you are fighters, not the type to give in. I thought these stories were important to tell you both, after all, trust is the important thing when trying to survive together.”
With that, the line goes quiet. A silence hangs over you two as you both continue to stare down at the previously live device.
“We um, we have to keep going,” he says quietly, breaking the silence. He lightly pushes your hand holding the walkie-talkie down to your side.
“Let’s change out the camera first.”
You shake your head, trying to push the conversation with your capture from your mind. Silently, you drop the walkie-talkie back into the bag and start looking for the cameras.
After you both exchanged the cameras, you transfer the leftover supplies from the old backpack into the new one. Before you had found the walkie-talkie, you were going to suggest that you two stop to eat. But now, and you’re sure the same is for Jaemin, you feel too sick to eat.
Silently handing him the bag, you can’t help but notice the shift in his attitude. You yourself are in no mood to partake in one of the many time passing conversations you two have come to have. But his attitude feels different, like he’s a shaken bottle of Coke ready to explode.
“Are you okay,” you ask timidly, not wanting to upset him anymore.
“I’m fine.”
“Jaemin-“
“No, y/n, no,” he snaps, turning to face you. “Just because we now know each other’s backstories doesn’t mean you get to do whatever this is. I’ve worked hard to make sure no one knows that about me and Emma. I called the schools for her when she’s sick, I taught her how to drive, and I’ve handled every finance that aren’t bills,” he scoffs, rolling his eyes. “My parents have the decency to do that for us. So don’t think just because you know this about me means I need your help. Because I don’t.”
For the second time in the past five minutes, a silence hangs over you two. You’re staring at him, a blank look spread across your face, as he stares back, breathing heavily from his sudden outburst.
As shocking as it is, you can understand it. He’s feeling the same things you feel about your past.
Fear and shame.
Fear that because of his parents, he’ll be looked down upon. And shame because while he's afraid of being looked down on, he knows it’s justifiable.
“I’m sorry, you’re right. Just because I know that about you doesn’t mean I get to try and help you. God knows if any of us need help, it’s me. So let’s keep going.”
He looks at you, confusion replacing his previous hardened expression. You slightly smile at him, hoping to show him you’re on his side.
“Come on,” you say, reaching out your hand to grab him and start walking. You’ve never been good at subtle comfort, but you’re hoping that by showing him you’re not going to judge him is a good start.
At first, he lags behind a few steps, letting you drag him. But when he eventually falls into step with you, he smiles at you over his shoulder, the same kind of smile you gave him.
Trust is everything when you’re trying to survive.
---
I’m sorry that took forever! I decided to join a few collabs to get over the writer’s block (which worked for the most part) and those ended up taking more time than I thought they would.
I hope everyone has an amazing day/night, and I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read my stuff.
