You sat in front of your mirror, adding the finishing touches to your look. The outfit you chose was a perfect mix of bold and carefree, just like you. The fitted black tank top clung to your figure, revealing a hint of your leopard-print bra underneath, adding an effortless edge. You paired it with denim shorts that showcased your legs, the fabric frayed just enough to make it clear you didn’t care too much but still made a statement.
After adjusting your curls and applying a final coat of lipgloss, you gave yourself a once over in the mirror. The way your brown skin glowed against the mix of textures and fabrics was stunning, and you knew you were ready to turn heads, whether you wanted to or not. You weren’t dressing for anyone but yourself, though you had a feeling someone would be watching closely tonight.
When you walked into Topper’s party, the air practically shifted. Conversations paused as your presence commanded the room, even Ruthie’s fake smile faltered for a moment. Out of the corner of your eye, you spotted Rafe Cameron, leaning against the bar with his drink in hand, his eyes locked on you like a predator who just found its prey.
You weaved through the crowd with practiced ease, offering nods and tight-lipped smiles to the other Kooks, ignoring the stares that followed you.
“Look who finally decided to show up,” Ruthie’s voice rang out as she spotted you near the drinks table. Her tone carried the same false sweetness that always made you bristle. Topper stood beside her, grinning like he’d accomplished something just by getting you here. You suspected he’d been in cahoots with a certain someone which is why he invited you.
You rolled your eyes subtly. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world,” you replied dryly, pouring yourself a drink.
It wasn’t long before you felt eyes on you, more intense than the usual glances. Turning your head slightly, your gaze landed on Rafe leaning against the staircase railing, his sharp features illuminated by the glow of string lights. He didn’t bother to look away when you caught him staring. If anything, his smirk deepened.
Rafe wasn’t subtle—he never was. Whether it was at the country club, the beach, or now here, his gaze followed you like you were the only thing worth seeing in all of Kildare. It annoyed you. No, it infuriated you. But you’d never give him the satisfaction of knowing.
“The fuck are you looking at?” you snapped, locking eyes with him.
He pushed off the railing and walked toward you, his steps deliberate. “You, obviously,” he said, his tone low and teasing, a challenge glinting in his blue eyes. He stopped too close, leaning in just slightly as though daring you to shove him away.
“Stop being weird, Rafe,” you muttered, turning back to your drink, trying to ignore the way his presence seemed to make the air shift.
“Can’t help it when you’re around,” he replied smoothly. His eyes lingered on your bra before drifting down to your shorts. “You wear that for me?”
Your head snapped up, lips parting in indignation. “You’re delusional,” you shot back, but you felt heat creep up your neck. He always knew how to get under your skin.
“That’s not a no,” he murmured, his voice dropping lower as he smirked.
Before you could respond, Ruthie’s shrill laughter interrupted the moment, breaking whatever tension had begun to build. You took the opportunity to walk away, leaving Rafe standing there. You couldn’t shake the feeling of his eyes on you, tracking your every step like a predator with its prey.
Music thumped from the speakers, and the crowd ebbed and flowed around you as you navigated your way through Topper’s obnoxiously large beach house after dancing for a bit. You barely had time to grab a drink before you felt his presence again—Rafe, leaning casually against the wall like he owned the place.
“Thank you for gracing me with your presence,” he drawled, his eyes shamelessly dragging down your figure.
You rolled your eyes, taking a sip of your drink as you turned away. “Don’t start, Rafe.”
“What?” he asked, smirking as he pushed off the wall and stepped closer. “I’m just saying. You look good, that’s all. Better than good, actually.”
“Wow, thanks for the groundbreaking observation,” you shot back, your tone dripping with sarcasm. “Can I go now?”
But Rafe wasn’t deterred. He trailed after you like a persistent shadow, his charm cranked up to full force. “You know,” he said, leaning down slightly so his face was level with yours, “you’re the only girl in Figure 8 who doesn’t throw herself at me. That’s different. I like different.”
You stopped walking, turning to face him fully. “Maybe that’s because I don’t have time for spoiled rich boys with control issues,” you said sweetly, though your words carried a sharp tone.
Rafe’s grin widened, unbothered by your jab. His eyes flickered down to your chest, where your tank top dipped just enough to reveal the leopard-print bra and your tits underneath. “You really don’t, huh?” he murmured, his gaze lingering far too long.
“Rafe,” you warned, crossing your arms over your chest. “My face is up here.”
“Oh, I know,” he said smoothly, his blue eyes finally meeting yours again. “But can you blame me?”
You laughed, though it wasn’t out of amusement. “You’re disgusting.”
“And you’re gorgeous,” he countered, leaning in just enough for his voice to drop to a low tone. “So what do you say? Let me take you somewhere quieter. Just to talk.”
You gave him a skeptical look, the corners of your mouth twitching as you fought back a smile. “Talk? That’s rich coming from you.”
“Cross my heart,” he said, placing a hand over his chest in mock sincerity. “No funny business. Unless you want there to be.”
You sighed, glancing around the crowded room. He wasn’t going to let up, and you were tired of his relentless staring. “Fine,” you relented, setting your drink down on the nearest table. “But only to shut you up.”
Rafe’s smirk deepened, and without wasting a second, he led you out of the house and toward his truck parked just outside. The air between you was thick with unspoken words as he opened the door for you, his hand brushing yours as you climbed in.
By the time you reached his place, you were questioning why you’d agreed to come. But the way Rafe looked at you—like you were the only thing that mattered in the world, left you curious enough to stay.
As you both walked into the house, Rafe led you through the dimly lit living room and into the kitchen, but your patience was already wearing thin. You turned to him, crossing your arms. “So, what was it you wanted to talk about, Cameron?”
He leaned against the counter, his signature smirk tugging at his lips. “We could talk down here, but,” He let his voice trail off, the implication hanging in the air before he added, “It’s more comfortable upstairs. In my room.”
You let out a dry laugh, shaking your head. “Boy, do not play with me.”
“I’m not,” he said, “I mean, I’m just saying, the bed’s a lot comfier than these barstools.”
Scoffing, you rolled your eyes but followed him up the stairs anyway, telling yourself it was just easier to humor him than to argue. His hand brushed against your lower back, lingering as it slowly slid lower. You shot him a warning look over your shoulder, but he just raised a brow, clearly unbothered.
Once in his room, he shut the door with a quiet click and locked it, making your stomach twist in a mix of irritation and anticipation. You sat on the edge of his bed, taking in the space—simple, yet distinctly his. Your gaze landed back on him, standing there with that freshly buzzed head, his jawline sharp, and a needy glint in his blue eyes. He wasn’t even subtle about it, his eyes dropped to your chest almost immediately, the intensity of his stare making heat rise to your cheeks.
“What?” you snapped, though your tone lacked any real bite.
“You know exactly what,” he said, stepping closer, his smirk turning downright sinful. His gaze flicked up to meet yours, and for a moment, the room seemed to still. The sexual tension between you was thick, suffocating even, until it snapped entirely.
One second, his eyes were on yours, the next, his lips crashed into yours, stealing the breath from your lungs. You didn’t know if it was the alcohol coursing through your veins or the fact that this had been a long time coming—or maybe both, but you didn’t pull away. Instead, you kissed him back with just as much ferocity, your hands tangling in the fabric of his shirt as he pressed you down onto the bed.
Rafe hovered over you, his lips devouring yours as his hands roamed freely, sliding up your waist and cupping your tits. A low moan rumbled in your throat when his hands squeezed, and he pulled back just enough to murmur against your lips, “Pretty fucking moans.”
“Shut up, before I change my mind,” you muttered breathlessly, though your voice betrayed how affected you were.
His lips curved into a grin as he nipped at your jawline. “You won’t,” he said confidently, trailing kisses down your neck and chest. Each touch sent sparks coursing through your body, and by the time he reached your waist, your resolve was hanging by a thread.
He hooked his fingers into your belt, tugging you forward slightly as he unbuckled it and slid it free. “Thought you just wanted to talk,” he teased, his voice low and teasing as he worked your shorts down your legs. His eyes burned into you, taking in every inch of your shamelessly wet pussy.
“Shut up,” you said again, but there was no venom behind it. If anything, your voice was laced with a shaky sort of anticipation.
His mouth found your pussy with a ferocity that made you gasp, your body reacting almost instinctively. He was smug, of course—his low chuckle vibrating against you as you arched off the bed, unable to suppress the moans spilling from your lips. His hands gripped your hips firmly, holding you in place even as your legs wrapped around his head.
“Be a good girl,” he murmured against your pussy, his voice dark and commanding. “Cum for me.”
You couldn’t believe it—the audacity of Rafe Cameron, and yet, your body responded before your mind could catch up. Your fingers clutched at the sheets, your head tipping back as you did exactly what he told you to. The room was filled with muffled moans and the sound of his name falling from your lips as you came on his tongue, the feeling leaving you breathless.
Rafe leaned back up, capturing your lips in a deep kiss, his hands roaming your sides. You couldn’t help but grind against him, a desperate rhythm that betrayed how much you wanted him, even if you tried to hold back. He pulled away with a teasing smirk, his voice low and gravelly, “Aw, baby, I thought you just agreed to talk.”
You rolled your eyes, your annoyance barely hiding the heat in your cheeks. “Rafe, just shut up,” you muttered, pulling him back down for another kiss. His chuckle rumbled against your lips, but he didn’t resist, matching your passion.
As your hips pressed against his, you felt the solid evidence of his desire, his hard cock, and it only spurred you on. He finally broke away, his lips brushing against your jaw as he whispered, “You’re driving me crazy.” Sitting up, he tugged his shirt over his head, his toned chest and abs on full display. Then, with deliberate slowness, he removed his pants and boxers, revealing himself fully.
Your breath hitched slightly at the sight, and his smug grin returned. “See how hard I am for you?” he murmured, stroking himself lazily as his gaze traveled over your body. His confidence was annoying, but you couldn’t deny how captivating he looked. He had the package to match too.
Climbing back onto the bed, he hovered over you, his knees on either side of you. “Take off that little top and that sexy bra,” he instructed, his voice dropping an octave. “You’ve been teasing me all night in that hot outfit.”
You hesitated for a moment, savoring the way his eyes pleaded with yours despite his usual cocky demeanor. Then, you slowly lifted your top over your head and unclasped your bra, letting it fall to the side. Rafe let out a sharp breath, his eyes widening as he took you in.
“Goddamn,” he muttered, leaning back slightly to admire you. “The famous tits everyone talks about—but I’m the only one lucky enough to see them like this.”
You scoffed, rolling your eyes again. “It’s gonna be your first and last time,” you shot back, though your voice lacked any real bite.
He chuckled, leaning down to kiss the curve of your neck. “We’ll see about that,” he teased before whispering against your skin, “Now, hold those tits together for me, baby.”
You hesitated briefly, your hands moving to frame your chest, and he let out a deep, appreciative sigh. “God, you’re so perfect,” he murmured, his gaze fixed intently as he shifted closer.
He leaned down, positioning himself between your tits, his breath hitching as his movements became slow and deliberate. “You have no idea how long I’ve been thinking about this,” he admitted, his voice husky and raw.
His eyes flickered to yours, and you saw something unguarded there, something almost vulnerable beneath his confident smirk. “You’re everything I’ve ever wanted, and seeing you like this, it’s unreal.”
You couldn’t help but let out a breathy laugh, your teasing side showing despite the heat in the room. “You’ve got one chance, Cameron,” you said softly.
He let out a low chuckle, leaning down to kiss the curve of your neck, his lips warm and lingering. “One chance is all I need,” he whispered against your skin, his words sending a shiver down your spine.
He started moving his cock between your tits, going back and forth as he let out breathy whimpers. You couldn’t deny how hot he sounded and how fucking sext it was to have him titty fuck you.
“Fucking hell, your tits are perfect,” he moaned, bucking his hips between them.
“I know, that’s why they’re always on display,” you laughed.
You darted your tongue out, each time he thrusted forward, you got a taste of his leaking tip, the pre cum smearing all over you. He lulled his head back, gasping as the sensation of your tongue and between your tits became almost overwhelming.
You spat on the tip and he took the opportunity to smear it all over you, getting your chest a tad bit sloppy.
“You should see how hot you look right now, all f’me,” he smirked.
As he thrusted, you held your tits together even tighter, gliding it up and down his thick cock. The action coupled with your tongue licking his tip had his head spinning, and he knew his ego was going to be bruised for coming quick. Then again, it was with you, anyone would cum quick too.
“S-shit baby, that’s so fucking hot, holy fuck, m’ gonna cum,” he whimpered, frantically, “I— I can’t fucking hold it.”
You began gliding against him faster, feeling how he throbbed and twitched in anticipation. “Cum all over my tits, I know you want to,” you teased, a seductive edge in your voice.
“Ahh— holy shit, oh God,” Rafe moaned, looking down at you as his cum spurted from his cock. You opened your mouth, catching some of his load as the rest coated your tits leaving them a sloppy mess.
“You look so fucking beautiful like this,” he panted, staring intently as you swallowed his cum and your tongue darted out to lick what was on your chest, “that was even better than any head I’ve ever gotten.”
“It’s me, not a surprise,” you said in a cocky tone.
By now he was aching for you, you hoped he didn’t notice how badly you were aching for him too. You couldn’t believe in a million years you’d be desperate for Rafe Cameron to shove his dick inside you.
“I’m still so fucking hard baby, gotta let me fuck you,” he urged.
“Shut up Rafe, I don’t gotta let you do anything,” you murmured, rolling your eyes, “now sit on the fucking bed.”
If you were going to let Rafe fuck you, it would be on your terms. You would be the one fucking him. Just this one time. Well just enough to have him craving more when you’re finished.
He eagerly did as instructed, positioning himself against the headboard, his cock leaking and standing at attention. With a dick that big no wonder he acted the way he did. Straddling him, you sucked on his neck leaving dark red marks so he’d have a few days to reflect on what happened between you.
“Please sit, baby, I need that pussy,” he whined.
“Beg me,” you retorted.
He looked up at you, eyes filled with need and disbelief, “You know me sweetheart, I don’t fucking beg.”
You let out an unamused laugh and sat on his thigh instead of his cock, your arousal smearing him. “Well, I guess you won’t get to be inside me, I knew you weren’t worth my time.”
“W-wait, no, please baby. Please let me fuck you, I’ve never needed anyone this bad. I need to be inside you, I’m fucking obsessed with you,” he whined, frantically.
Having Rafe Cameron of all people plead to be inside you was more than what you bargained for tonight and you were enjoying every minute of it.
Slowly, you sank down onto him, the sensation beyond anything you’d ever felt. His cock hit all the right places inside you and filled you to the brim. Though you tried to hold back, you couldn’t help the soft moans that left your lips.
“Fuck,” you moaned, shakily.
The faint glow from the bedside lamp casted warm shadows across Rafe's features as you slammed yourself up and down his cock. His hands found their way to your waist, gripping firmly as you rode him with purpose.
“Yeah? Feels good doesn’t it,” Rafe said, his tone cocky.
You responded with a bite to his shoulder, sinking your teeth in as you began bouncing faster. His head tipped back, giving you more access as you left your teeth mark on his neck.
“Fuck baby, that feels so good,” he moaned. He didn’t strike you as the type to enjoy being marked but you were into it.
“God, I’ve always loved watching this ass,” he murmured, his hands sliding over it. “Now I finally get to feel it bouncing on dick.”
Rolling your eyes at his words, you leaned forward, capturing his lips in a deep kiss to silence him. The intensity of the moment enveloped you both. You felt the stretch and fullness, every inch of him, while the rhythm of your movements sent waves of heat through your body.
Rafe’s blue eyes locked on yours, his gaze glassy and overwhelmed. “You wanna cum for me baby? Cum all over this cock,” he whispered, his voice ragged.
Your nails dug into his shoulders as your breaths quickened, your orgasm building until it erupted, leaving you trembling in his arms. He moaned low in his throat, gripping your hips as he followed your lead, his movements growing more erratic.
“Can I— Can I cum inside you?” he asked, breathlessly. You narrowed your eyes, your lips curling into a smirk. “In your dreams,” you teased, sliding off him before he came.
Rafe didn’t miss a beat. He positioned himself over you as you lay back, watching him with a mix of curiosity and satisfaction. His breaths were shallow, his body taut, and he released with a guttural moan, his cum spreading across your tits as he lost himself.
Still catching his breath, Rafe collapsed beside you, running a hand through his buzzed hair. “That was the best sex I’ve ever had,” he admitted.
“Glad to help,” you replied, slipping off the bed to grab your clothes. But before you could get far, his hand gently tugged at yours. “No, stay,” he said, his blue eyes looking up at you with a vulnerability that caught you off guard.
For a moment, you hesitated. But the way he looked at you—soft, almost pleading—made you stop. Just this once, you told yourself. Climbing back into the bed, you let Rafe pull you into his arms. His fingers lightly grazed your skin, his hand resting on your waist before sliding up to rest on your tits.
“Didn’t think you were the cuddling type,” you teased, your voice light.
He smirked, burying his face into your neck. “I’m not.”
The warmth of his body against yours felt unexpectedly comforting, and as his breathing evened out, you couldn’t help but wonder if this was a moment you’d remember longer than you intended and if it wasn’t the last time.

MDNI MDNI MDNI MDNI MDNI MDNI MDNI MDNI
"Their sentence has been finalized," the executioners voice echoed through the colosseum. Not a sound was made by any of the copious audience members. All of the bystanders were waiting for the reveal.
You were on trial for a murder that you did not commit. A powerful and highly respected noble was killed on palace grounds. Unfortunately, you were on duty as a servant on the day of the murder. Who else would there be to frame? The other lords and ladies? You and your family had fought the courts for months, trying to give yourself any semblance of credibility, but it was a low ranked family against people who regarded themselves as gods.
Of course, you wouldn't of won this case. You couldn't, all the odds were against you. Today, you'd die infront of your entire nation. Your family would descend even lower into calamity. This was it.
Your stomach churned as the executioners mouth opened, ready to release it's next sentence. "They are to be exiled from the nation."
This time, your stomach dropped. This is worse than death. Outside of the nation's high walls lies a dragon, rumored to be so large and so powerful, that it can take out the country with one breath.
The audience began to cheer, thousands of civilians clinking their beverages and chanting, slay the dragon! Slay the dragon! Your family exchanged saddened glances, their eyes dull and their brows furrowed.
To be exiled from this nation meant that your only way of survival would be to take the dragons life. A feat that has never once been accomplished. The executioner had a grin on his face, out of character for such an old man, "to return to our kingdom, to see your family, your friends, your life, you must slay the dragon sealed in the abyss, and bring back it's right hand."
You scoffed, there was no odds of return for you. The crowd continued to cheer, a few profanities spewed in your direction within all the laughter and applause. This nation was corrupt, and even more twisted than a person could imagine.
"Guards, take them to the front gates, banish this traitor from our land. Give them no mercy." The executioner walked off of his podium and to one of the exits of the colloseum.
A guard came from behind and pulled on your handcuffs, dragging you off towards the city's gates. The crowd continued to cheer behind you.
Slay the dragon! Slay the dragon! Slay the dragon!
All they gave you was a vague description of where the dragon's lair might be and a dull sword. One that had suffered more years of use than you have been alive. The metal was chipped and the hilt corroded.
The nations main gate slammed shut behind you, and as much as you wanted to bang on the metal and beg for an entry back in, they would never listen. You just continued down the faded dirt path, unsure of where you were to go.
Your options were limited, there were no other civilizations on the outskirts and any other nations were across oceans. Either you decide to die in the wilderness, or die with the dragon. The latter seemed oddly appealing, however. If you managed to kill him, you could see your family again. The odds of conquering that feat were little to none, but it made much more sense than to sit around and do nothing. This goal was your last motivation to live.
So, you continued your march down the dirt path. The guards had told you two things about the dragon's location. "He lives at the base of a large mountain," and "the surrounding forests are dead." Which, sure, that seems very easy to find, but there are two mountains in sight—both eons away from each other— and the forests are all lush and green. You thanked the gods that it wasn't winter, at least they were able to give you that.
Your boots stomped on the now muddy pathway, and the answer seemed to be a little more clear. You would have to go away from the water, towards the dryer end of this continent. The dragon would be there. Where there is water, there is life, and this dragon is the epitome of death. Your course was set.
A few months had passed since your descent from your home. It was now late fall, the trees were losing their verdant leaves and animals were going into hibernation. Your sword has snapped months ago, and you've been managing with a stick and a sack made of animal hide. You were only a few trees away from the start of the deadwood forest. After, you will find the dragons lair. If you were correct.
There really was no real way to fact-check the guards instructions. It was weighing on your mind for the heat of the journey. What if the dragon isn't thee? You had always thought. Anxiety crippled your mind with every step you took. Your only option was trial-and-error. If you were wrong, you were going to turn back and head towards the other mountain. No matter how difficult the journey back would be.
Crunch. Your boot, now tattered and stained, stepped on a leaf, and infront of you was the beginning of the dried trees. This was it. You continued your way through. Had you been the same person from before, the servant who had been assigned to clean the palace, maybe this experience would've been jaw-dropping. But you were oh-so-tired.
For countless months, you've been on this journey that now seemed pointless. Yet you kept dragging your feet along. Your hands were pained, your skin bruised and disrespected by the elements. You just wanted to go home, but would there even be a home for you? Did your family survive? You wondered if they began to look like the trees that surrounded you. Dark, dried up and chewed out. Clawed by the marks of passing animals and littered with death.
Maybe there isn't even a dragon.
That weighed on your mind the most. What would you do if there wasn't a way back to your family? You've been struggling for this long, alone, unable to see or feel any warmth besides your own, what if you walked through the entrance of the dragons lair and he was not there?
Your feet stopped right before the archway of the mountain. Before you, lied the way back to your home, to what you've been living for. Rage filled your mind. Relief has yet to fall onto your shoulders. Your feet lifted again, and you walked into the cavern.
Inside, it was dark. The sunlight from outside was just enough to light up the walkway that the dragon had made. It seemed a lot smaller than you had originally thought. The walls of the cave were only the height of a small cottage, and the tunnel was not that deep. Loose stones were scattered on the ground, but they were not sharp. It seemed oddly peaceful inside.
Until you noticed the red glow that began to leak into the tunnel. There was something here. You felt your chest scrunch up, the emotion you were experiencing was confusing yet unbearable. This was it.
You've wanted this for months, yet you had no game plan. Much like how you managed to get here on a legend and a hunch. Your footsteps echoed through the tunnel. Something moved in response.
"Your footsteps are noisy," the voice was husky and deep. The syllables rolled off his tongue like butter
Suddenly, fear filled your chest.
He chuckled, "and you breathe heavily, too."
You finally reached the end of the tunnel and your eyes were met with a large cave filled with riches beyond compare. Gold, coins, gems, like a fairytail. A throne of gold was placed in the middle, and ontop of that chair sat a silver-haired man. He had horns and a tail, and had it not been from the fear in your chest, you would've noticed the heat pooled in your stomach.
He eyed you up and down, "this is who they send to slay me this time? A measly little girl?"
You froze in your tracks, unsure of what to do. The dragon, or at least what you thought was the dragon, licked his lips. "Come closer," he ordered.
Fear overtook your body, and you stepped forward. Dropping the stick you had brought. It was rendered useless. Yes, he had a humanoid form, but he was much taller and bigger than you, his arms covered in scales, and his demeanor was enough to kill.
When you were a few feet away from his throne, his tail pulled you in by the waist, pressing your chest against his. His right hand, the one you were supposed to bring back as a national treasure, gripped your chin, lifting your face up. His single claw was larger than half your hand.
"Why did you drop your weapon? You're not supposed to come towards your bounty unarmed," he teased.
You hesitated, "would that have killed you?"
The dragon laughed, "of course not."
"Then you have your answer," you retorted
"Tell me," his fingers moved from your chin to your jaw, closer to your ear. His skin was surprisingly cold, despite the heat of the cave, "do you wish to live?"
You raised an eyebrow, "why?"
"It'll help me decide if I should keep you or not."
"You want to keep me?"
He came a little closer towards your face, "usually they send old men my way, never a young woman. You'd make a good plaything."
You hated the sound of that, "kill me. I'd rather die here than be a slave to a dragon."
"Who said you would be a slave? You'd just keep me company." His tone became sickly sweet, "it's awfully lonely in this cave."
"Let go of me," you grunted.
"Alright." His grip loosened and you fell to the floor. Not noticing how he was holding you up and how weak your legs were, "find a spot to sleep in."
He sat on his throne, and for the rest of the day, you did not exchange a word.
You tried leaving once or twice within the week you've been here, but a terrible blizzard started. Not to mention the dragon, who's name you have yet to learn, has been keeping a watchful eye on you.
For the past week, you've been sleeping, eating and attempting to kill the dragon in his lair.
On the second day, you tried to poison his food with a homemade concoction of dried-up plants and fish guts. When he ate the poorly cooked bird leg, he had no reaction, as if he hasn't consumed it at all.
The next day, you tried to kill him in his sleep. But, his tail had caught you in the middle of the act, and all he did was scoff and throw you against one of the many piles of gold. He then proceeded to laugh at you.
Today, you found yourself sitting at a wooden table, one that was carved and painted. It seemed very expensive, and would probably sell for a fortune if you could manage to escape with it. The dragon, who's name you have yet to learn was sitting on his throne. Your newest plan to kill him involved the wooden stake you initially tried to throw away.
You'd simply have to stab the stake into his chest and let him bleed out. Once you were done, you would find a knife amongst the treasure and cut off his arm. It wasn't a very smart idea, but it was a much more solid plan than your other ones.
Slowly, you got up and walked over to the dragon's throne. He noticed your presence, yet he didn't say anything. "Hi," you said, sheepishly.
"Hello," he replied. You weren't too sure what to do now.
His gaze hardened, "do you need something?"
You looked into his eyes, "it's hot in this cave, and your skin is cold. Can I stay near you?"
"Humans are warm." He hummed, but he moved over and made room for you to sit, "come."
"Thank you." Now what? You thought. An idea came to mind, "What's that on your chest?"
"Are you interested?" You nod and he continues, "it's just a part of me."
"May I touch it?"
He tilts his head and hums before lifting you off of your seat on the throne, he places your body ontop of his lap, letting your thighs straddle his sides. "Go ahead," he says, with a stupid smirk on his face.
He thinks this is amusing, you think. Your hands slowly touch the red gem that is imbedded in his chest. Your faces are inches away from each other, and you can feel his breath lightly fanned against your face. His crimson eyes staring into yours. You start to feel heat rush across your body.
During your stay in his cave, you couldn't help but notice his beauty. He was double your size, handsome and his face was beautiful sculpted. As if the gods came and blessed him. On his head sat two horns that you were infatuated with since you've first met him.
You hand moved from the gem to the side of his head. Finally, they reached his horns. He didn't remove his gaze from you, rather his eyelids became heavy.
"They're beautiful," you whisper, no need to raise your voice when he is so close.
"I could say the same about you." He seemed to be only an inch away, and it didn't seem too bizarre to lean in and kiss him.
He had the same idea too, because before you could process it, you felt his lips on yours. Slowly moving, as if unsure of what he was doing. You pressed your mouth against his with more fervor. Your lips interlocked in a painful dance. You were about to kill this man.
You had to go against everything your body was aching for. You took the small wooden stake out of your pocket and quickly jabbed it into the left side of his chest, aiming for the heart. It happened too fast to think about the what-ifs. Blood sprayed across your chest and neck
Your lips fell off of his and his gaze, once starry eyed was now clouded. His crimson eyes were wine red. The same fear as when you first met filled your body again, you had to run. Thats all you thought as you scrambled to get off his lap. But, before you could slide off, his arm hoisted itself around your waist, keeping you locked in.
The dragons other arm pulled the stake out of his chest and he threw it onto the floor. "You need to try a little harder," he laughed, his lips found their way onto yours again. The wound on his chest began to immediately heal, as if nothing had ever happened.
His lips were much more rough on your mouth, biting on your lower lip. The dragon was savouring this moment, having his prey on his lap. He began to play with your tongue, twisting it around his and slowly sucking. Soon, he let go and started to go lower.
Bite marks covered your skin. He took extra care to lick the wounds he left behind, it burned and ached with every touch of his tongue. You whimpered out in pain.
His tail wrapped around your body and hooked around your shirt. With little to no warning, the tip of the tail ripped your shirt off, leaving your torso exposed.
You whinced again, "w- wait..."
He didn't falter and continued his descent to your breasts. Slowly sucking on each nipple, circling the bud with his tongue. He massaged the other with his extra hand. It was like your brain was melting. In any other situation, you would've been pushing him away, but the fear and the heat drew you closer to his body.
Instead of shying away from his touch, you moved your lower body closer to his, slowly grinding against his crotch. You noticed it get harder and press against your core.
"Fuck..." he growled against your breast before sinking his teeth in. Your blood rushed against the inside of his mouth. You screamed in agony. He ran his tongue against the wound, his saliva falling into the incisions left behind from his teeth. Tears swelled up in your eyes.
"Is my plaything crying?" He teased, "you didn't seem very scared when you stabbed me, sweetheart."
His hands fell to your hips, and he moved your body against his dick again. You couldn't help but moan, despite the pain, the pleasure managed to override it. You mumbled between moans, "what's... ah! What is your name?"
"Sylus." His eyes were locked with yours, "my name is Sylus."
"F- fuck... Sylus!" He continued his pursuit on your hips, letting you chase the high you felt between your legs. The aching sensation that made you want more. "I want- mm... I want you inside," you manage between hasty moans.
There was nothing on your mind beside Sylus. You were intoxicated by the man infront of you. He moved his hands from your hips to your ass, and stood up. Your weight was being held up by him as he repositioned you both.
Now, you were leaned up on the throne, your front facing him. Sylus fumbled with the array of belts on his waist, before eventually giving up and ripping them off.
His dick bounced against his abdomen, hard, red and tip glistening with precum. It was the size of your forearm.
You shook your head, "that's not going to fit."
"I'll make it," Sylus growled. He ripped off your bottoms and slowly traced your lips with his fingers, your slick acting as a lubricant.
One finger slid in, and he began to pump it in and out. He started slowly at first, before beginning to speed up. A second finger went in, his speed continuing.
"More! More... Oh my god!" You moaned between the thrusts of his fingers. He used his other hand to rub your clit, bringing you to the edge. "I'm coming!" Your line of sight was replaced with white, and your lower body shook with pleasure, "fuck..." you groaned.
Sylus' fingers were still moving, despite the orgasm you just felt. "Wait— wait that's, ah! Too much—"
His eyebrow raised, "you thought I was done?" He gestured downwards to his cock, still red and twitching at the sight of you undone. You tried to push his hands away, too overstimulated, but instead, he used his left hand to hold yours together, above your head.
Your eyes closed as you felt another orgasm coming. His right hand was still working diligently on your clit rubbing in quick circles. Just as you were about to release, he shoved his dick inside. Your eyes were rolled back as you let out a gutteral moan.
"Oh my fucking god..." you whimpered, the orgasm taking over your whole body yet again. You felt your gummy flesh stretch around his cock with a slight sting. Your mind was numb.
Sylus thrusted his hips, maintaining the same speed as his fingers previously were. "Such a good girl, taking my dick like it's yours."
You moaned, "your dick is mine, Sylus... Oh! Fuck..." He let go of your hands, and placed both of his on either side of your hips, pulling your body against him at a similar rhythm as his thrusts.
His tail wrapped around his body, going to your clit and continuing the momentum that he had before. If you died right here, you'd be happy. Your brain was focused on nothing other than Sylus and his cock moving in and out of you.
"You look so beautiful with my dick inside of you," he sped up, "it's like you were made for it."
You nodded, it didn't matter what he said in this moment, you would've agreed. Your moans echoed through the cave, you kept calling his name and ushering him to continue his pursuit for his own high.
Maybe you didn't need to kill this dragon.

Gonna answer these for fun because why not
Good with my mom; amicable but not close with my dad; not too close but alright with my step-dad
My cat lol. Aside from that - my mom, probably
Not off the top of my head, no
Not particularly. I used to be awfully insecure when I was about 17-18, but not anymore. It took a while to internalize the fact that no one else notices the things you're insecure about and if they do, they probably don't think of it as much as you do
Single and very aroace
Quick and painless. Not quick enough for me to not understand what's happening though - I want to know what dying feels like before I go
A bowl of cereal
Somehow this question made me realize that no, I've never played sports. Huh. I thought I used to do at least something when I was younger but nothing comes to mind.
I try not to, but yea. It's a bad habit I'm trying to get rid of. I even tried that nail polish that tastes nasty to make you stop, but still - I can't help it sometimes
When I was a little kid with my sister. I'm not the kind of person to get into fights
Nope :))!
Nope, I don't think I ever even got to 24h awake T~T
No, I don't think so. For some reason hating someone feels childish (the bad kind of childish. Generally I don't mind being childish, so long as it's not petty schoolyard fights)
All of my middle school friends. I didn't miss them as much as I do until I went out with two of them earlier in the year after seeing one on the bus. Now I've realized we've all changed so much we couldn't have the kind of friendships we did even if we really, really wanted to. Also my dad - haven't seen him face-to-face in a few years now. I wish I could give the man a hug
A cat named Spirga :))). Gonna reblog with an image for her when I get home :))
A little anxious - I have to present something in at most a few hours and even though it's only gonna take 5 min I'm nervous about it
I've never made out with anyone at all T~T Also in a bathroom? Seems like an odd spot for it
Only if they're close enough to climb on me. If that little guy is by the ceiling - they're chill and can hang out there all they want. If they're on my desk - please leave and don't hurt me :((
Yea, just to see if everything looked as colorful and nice as I remember it. I want to experience the summer of 2016 again
Ok I had to look up the meaning of "to snog", but nevertheless - primary school's yard, circa 2011
The local thrift chain is dropping their prices to 0.5 euro a piece on Saturday, so I'm going to every. single. one. in my city. And my niece's birthday is on Sunday, so I'm gonna do that too
Biologically - not a single one. Adopted - maybe 2-3, if I'm economically stable enough for it
Just the usual lobe piercings. I'd love at least a few more lobe piercings (I'm thinking 2 in one ear, 3 in the other) and perhaps an industrial or bridge? Idk, haven't thought about it much
In high school, my best was easily English (I don't live in an English-speaking country, so the class wasn't a literature analysis class, but just a regular language class). Currently (3rd semester of uni) it's, oddly enough, gender studies (one of the few free electives that has nothing to do with my actual field of study - geography)
See answer to question 14
So, Lidl has these crispy salted caramel chocolate and it's to die for, I love it
Not that I know of, no
Can't get cheated on if you never date ;)
Can't make a bf/gf cry if you never date ;)
Someone is loudly whispering across the classroom and I can't focus on what the professor is saying
My family and my friends :333
I have a very unhealthy obsession yellow
Quite the opposite - I trust very, very easily. If you aren't holding a knife at me, you could probably easily take me into the woods with you and I wouldn't realize "hey this ain't safe" until way too late
I dreamt I was walking into the woods near my house, got chased by a beaver, fell into the little stream running through the woods (which is, like, 20 cm deep) and somehow got carried right to the Arctic (the little stream does not go directly to the sea. It goes into another river, which I did not end up in. That river also goes into another river, which then goes into the Baltic sea - far from Arctic)
My mom when I decided to drop my driving lessons (I'm SORRY driving a manual is HARD and I'm STUPID and when she reassures me that it's fine I CRY)
I'll give 2565623th chances like it's nothing
Forgive, I think. To forget something truly, really hurtful would take much, much more effort, especially if you plan to keep the person in your life
So far - it's in the middle sorta. Had better, am planning better (first ever solo trip in January 2025 WOOOOO) but I also had a lot of fun this year and would love for every year to be something like this :))
Like 7? I think? I had my last one so far (excluding family members) not too long after lol
.... No?
Grilled cheese. Also your numbers are fuckde up D':
Nah, I think some stuff happens just because
Scrolled Twitter
NO
I try not to be. I hope I'm not
None
Yea :33
Sunny, a little warm (14-16°C), no wind. I often see this type of weather in mid/late spring and ooooh I love it
Yea, it's fun!!
If it works out, sure. I don't feel romantic attraction, but if a friend asked me to marry them, I'd probably say yes
Depends on the circumstance, I guess. I gotta know them enough/like them enough. Also if they're over 5 years older than me it's not cute, it creeps me out
Dude so, so much - seeing a small animal, nice weather, a good walk, good music, good food, giving gifts or being given gifts, spending time with people I love, talking to new people, even if it's just a quick convo on the bus, making something I can be proud of, etc
Yea, I'd like to one day. I saw the last name "Šalna" ("Frost") in a book and got absolutely enamored with it. Not too sure about a first name though. I want something pretentious on purpose (like the name of a goddess or otherwise a long, uncommon name, like Severija or something (I hate the book I associate this name with, but I gotta say, really rolls off the tongue)
I haven't talked to him in, what, 10-11 years? Also he was kind of a prick, but, then again, he was a kid. Regardless, yea
Think stuff over in terms of compatibility - would we make good roommates? Financial partners? Potentially co-parents? You can't keep a relationship afloat on love and lust, you need to get along in many different spheres of life. Otherwise? I guess I'd go for it
I have like one friend of the opposite sex and we don't talk outside of class
My stepdad, probably
My little sister
Yea. There isn't a doubt in my mind that some people are just meant to be together. Not always romantically, but they're meant to have each other around
Anyone I care about. I'd like to think I'd also die for someone weaker than myself if push came to shove, but I probably wouldn't.
WOW that took longer than expected

Actually I WILL talk about Mai's seeming 'radicalisation'. With the upcoming comic, I can see why a lot of people are confused/caught offguard by Mai suddenly having a vested interest in reforming the Fire Nation's school curriculum.
However, I don't think it's as much of a heelturn as one would believe at first glance.
Mai is a difficult character to pinpoint on some levels, particularly due to her upbringing which stripped her of a lot of her self expression. I think most of the fandom underestimates the trauma and effect of Mai's upbringing. I elaborate on it here.
However, the long and short of it is that Mai was not encouraged to question, criticise or, god forbid, rebel against her enviornment. To the point where her parents scared her with stories of spirits that would kidnap her if she misbehaved.
Ukano's involvement in politics and relatively high status should also be taken into account. Mai would have grown up being strongly encouraged to conform to her father's beliefs and go along with his politics.
Mai : My mother said I had to keep out of trouble. We had my dad's political career to think about.
We've seen the propaganda and indoctrination of the Fire Nation school system, how it uses misinformation in its curriculum and how it punishes deviance.
Most fire nation children won't have the tools to find the cruelty and danger in the philosophy of the Fire Nation. Zuko had to get banished from the country to even start his deconstruction. And he had Iroh at his side to guide him.
It's not shocking that Mai would not be able to see the flaws of the Fire Nation. Despite this, she still shows no attachment to the Nation's cause, either. In fact, she actively refused to take part in the war effort when she thought she could get away with it.
I don't think Mai had much sympathy to the other nations, nor will I claim she secretly harboured anti imperialistic sentiment. I simply want to state the fact that Mai was, from a young age, forced to do things she didn't want to do and conditioned by multiple parties, to accept this. Mai has been trained to be passive, with only the method of passive aggressiveness and gloominess to defend herself.
I think after the fall of Ozai's rule and the slow restructuring of the Nation, Mai got more freedom in her life. Ukano's political role diminished, so Mai was allowed to think for herself. She gets to discover the world more and develop her own thoughts and ideals, rather than the ones she'd been forced to conform to.
This line in the upcoming comic seems to confirm my thoughts:
Mai's upbringing is the underground and darkness. She was never given an alternative or agency in her life. And thanks to Zuko, she was able to see and experience a different world than the one she was brought up with. She is able to help to try and achieve it.
Initially, Mai is angry at Zuko's joining of team Avatar. She feels betrayed and upset that he did not talk to her in person, even if it was to protect her. And yet, she saves him. While I believe that most of her motivation was genuinely out of love for Zuko. But she also, ekther inadvertently or deliberately made the choice between Azula and Zuko. Between the two potential duture leaders of the Nation.
And she chose Zuko. Who is not only the boy she loves, but also the boy who can heal her nation.
There is an argument to be made about how Mai represents the Fire Nation itself and its relationship to Zuko, but that is a topic for another day.
The theme of Mai caring for the future of the Fire Nation can be seen expanding in the comics. As 99% of the fandom will tell you, the comics have their flaws, but I do enjoy their handling of Mai for the most part.
I think it's interesting that we are shown that Mai not only wants Zuko to be Fire Lord, but for him to be a good Fire Lord.
We see her dissapointed in Zuko secretly meeting with Ozai. At first glance, what she says to Zuko is that she is dissapointed in him keeping secrets from her, which is understandable, since the last time he kept a secret from her led to him joining the opposite side of a war.
However, with her next appearance, we see that Mai may have had another concern relating to Zuko's communing with Ozai. When Ty Lee informs her of Zuko also enlisting Azula's help, Mai exclaims 'so he really is turning into his father', which seems to denote that Mai has a distaste for Ozai and his rule, whether that be from the begining, or recently acquired.
Mai also criticises Zuko's callous and controlling restrictions over the frightened townspeople. This serves to further cement the idea of Mai becoming disillusioned with the similarly inclined authority figures of her past. Authority figures who were a symptom of the Fire Nation's utilitarian and imperialistic system. We see this disdain manifesting in its full force in the teasers for the upcoming comic.
I think people tend to not realise how restricted in her self expression and thoughts Mai was, despite all the puzzle pieces being laid out for us in the show.
Mai has gone through a very quick and yet realistic episode of character growth in my opinion. Not unlike a lot of people raised in heavily Conservative and restrictive households who peel off later in life, she's settling into her own mindset and motivations.
Ans I don't think it's an unrealistic idea for Mai to want to help change the education system. The Fire Academy for girls is where she met Azula, and as an all girl school alumni, I can tell you first hand how toxic and confining these enviornments can be.
While Mai may not be seen as a particularly empathetic or kind person (though I think this interpretation is flawed), she can sympathise with the young girls who will be placed in the shoes of her younger self.
She can want to not see these kids go through what she, Ty Lee AND Azula did.
[The panels of Mai glancing between the stifling interior of the school and the open window and choosing to go outside and lead the Nation's youth outside... ugh]
Not only is this a rather logical progression for Mai's character, in my opinion, but it also feels like a very big 'healing your inner child' moment for Mai. Since she was not really seemingly allowed to be a child, as most children in the Fire Nation appeared to have such restrictions placed on them.
I don't think it's much of a stretch of the imagination that Mai would want to have at least a small part in dismantling the system that harmed her and so many other children of the nation.
She is a young woman now, she has grown from the oversheltered, apathetic teen she was in the show. She has been able to make her own informed opinions about the state of the nation, has been able to hone her trauma into determination. And it seems we're going to see the fruits of this development in "Ashes of the Academy".
I have very high hopes for the upcoming comic, since what we've seen of it appears to make a compelling story, one I relate to deeply, as well as a good study of Mai, a character I find often misinterpreted by the fandom.

oh, you want to fuck a dragon? wait, you're expecting some nice cute snuggly shit where you get on your hands and knees in the dragon stable and get gently fucked and then cuddled under a wing after, aren't you?
yeah, that's not what this is. hope you're not scared of heights. the biggest benchmark for dragon riders to get past is not getting fucking traumatized by mating flight day.
what, you just thought you got to pick a dragon? you do some how to train your dragon shit where you feed it some fish? they really don't tell you newbies anything, huh?
on mating flight day, they release every unpaired dragon into the sky, take you up to 25,000 feet or so, and then just drop you. not before painting you with pheromones, of course. yeah, you're falling to your death, but every other dragon in a country mile thinks you're a really horny potential mate, and you get fucking swarmed.
why did you think it takes a full day? normally there's 45-50 dragons in the air, and you're gonna get fucked by every one of them at least five times, usually. that's not actually the scary part, though - they've got a pretty good grip on you so they can thrust without dropping you. the part that breaks the newbies is when the dragon cums and just tosses them into the air because it's too horny to remember that the cute little hole it just dumped a load into can't actually fly, and said hole falls for five seconds or so before being caught in claws or teeth and dragged back up to mating altitude.
sometimes they're not patient enough and whoever the poor bastard is gets two or god forbid all three holes filled at once, being tugged in a couple different directions by the eager bastards... that's never a pretty sight.
how do they know? oh, wait, you mean- yeah, no, it's pretty much universally someone gets paired with whichever dragon successfully breeds them. they have a sense for it.
oh god no. you would die. no, we just stick some dud eggs into you first and the dragon just thinks it's gotten you pregnant firmly enough that it won't maul you when you try to ride it, at least until it trusts you and then we can take them out. you don't have to lay anything. your body 100% cannot do that.
yeah, there's a reason people are a bit scared of this.

m.list
This blog is intended for 18+ only! Minors/blank blogs will be blocked.
If you hadn’t respected your grandmother so much you would’ve killed her for throwing you to the wolves. It was the inevitable end to the week's festivities, finding a husband. But so far, none the men brought forth sparked any reaction other than disdain and disgust.
You hated it. You hated them. You hated the entire ordeal of selling yourself off like a prized calf at auction, batting your eyelashes and giggling at unfunny jokes.
But it was your duty. Whether you liked it or not, it had to be done.
That fact repeated in your mind like a mantra as another suitor fumbled through a story about his opinions on nothing.
However, no matter how hard you tried to focus on the men in front of you, all you could think about was the one standing off to the side behind you.
Wonwoo hadn’t mentioned the books you gifted him the previous night; one as an apology for Maoki’s childish behavior, the other as a thank you for taking you to the Lower Block. There wasn’t much time for conversation between the fiasco of the talent show and the early morning appointment with your seamstress he was forced to wait outside of. Maybe after lunch you would have the opportunity. Your copy of The Pearls of Drak was better off with someone who could appreciate it, but the Poems of Stars was a spontaneous choice to throw in.
That particular copy stayed by your side since childhood, filled with smudged annotations, tear stains and bleeding ink from spilled drinks. You knew the verses by heart yet returned back to it again and again. For some reason, you wanted Wonwoo to read it. More than just the poems, you wanted him to read your copy; see if he found the same meanings you did. If he shed tears at “The Moon’s Widow”, or laughed at the old man in “The Constable”, or if he found “The Belle Dame” as beautiful as you did.
“And Capital City is fine, but the country is where children should be raised. Where they can run and play and learn in the great outdoors. I love the outdoors. Earth beneath your feet…”
Your grandmother meant for it to be an informal tea party. Chatting with multiple men at a time; a convenient way to ease into the courting process considering there were so many suitors to consider, to call upon them individually would take weeks. But the men talked over one another or attempted to subtly block each other from your view so you were forced to receive them one at a time at a table in the corner, a long queue spiraling through the chamber.
You assured it moved rather swiftly.
Duke Zul continued to droll on about his disdain for the city and how the countryside was far superior in all merits. He was old. Too old. As if he was around to witness the mountains form and the oceans rise.
“My apologies, Your Grace.” You smiled; the perfect picture of a demure princess. “But we seem to be out of time.”
The duke blinked, shocked by the interruption. He probably forgot you were there considering you hadn’t spoken since he sat down. It was a nice break from repeating the same set of sentences over and over again like a parrot but it didn’t help the throbbing vein in your temple.
Unfortunately, the moment Zul abandoned his seat, someone else stepped forward to take it.
“Your Highness.” Jao bowed so deeply the hem of his coat swept against the marble floor. A ridiculous shade of green that would only look fashionable on him.
“My Lord,” you greeted in return. “Please sit.”
Flopping into the chair, Jao nibbled on the almond cookies spread on the table before scanning your figure boldly. “Forgive me for being so bold but, you look ravishing this morning.”
“How presumptuous,” you snickered. Jao sang like a dying bird but he always managed to make you laugh.
He picked a piece of lint off his shoulder. “I must say, I’m unimpressed by my competition. They all seem so…plain.”
Jao’s attendance was more for appearances than anything else. He was the spare and could do as he pleased, who he pleased; those who pleased him were decidedly male. Everyone knew it. But his family was powerful and no one made a peep when he demanded time with an old friend.
“Yes, it takes a man of character to wear orange trousers and a green shirt.” You hid your smile in a teacup.
“I’ll have you know this is the style in the Earth Kingdom.”
“I was unaware the Earth Kingdom was so fond of circus clowns.”
Jao’s brow furrowed. “My brother has been on the throne for ten years and you didn’t know?”
“My deepest apologies.” You dunked one of the cookies in your own tea and bit off the corner.
“I’ll forgive you,” Jao said. “Now, how about we go down to the sages and get this entire ordeal over with? This hard to get game is starting to lose its charm.”
“I—“ you started.
“Your Highness,” Wonwoo interrupted, eyes trained suspiciously on Jao. “You have a meeting.”
“I do?” you asked, eyes wide. There were plenty of meetings happening but none required your presence. Your grandmother made sure of it.
Wonwoo nodded slowly, dragging his eyes away from Jao and setting them on you. “Yes. Now. With Minister Vasa.”
There was no Minister Vasa at the palace this week. There was no Minister Vasa in the history of the kingdom. What was Wonwoo doing?
“Right…Minister Vasa. Sorry, Jao, I must go.”
“Of course, Your Highness,” Jao nodded before leaning close, “When you're done with your guard, send him my way.”
“You are horrible,” you whispered.
“Horribly in love,” Jao sighed, snagging another cookie before skittering off.
The line of men groaned in objection as you passed but you ignored every single one of them, cooing empty pleasing words to soothe them. There were more important things to take care of. Like whatever game Wonwoo was playing at.
Out in the hallway, you rounded on him. “Is there a reason I have a meeting with Minister Vasa all of a sudden?”
He had the sense to look embarrassed and a little guilty; ears red, throating bobbing as he swallowed. You tried to object when he grabbed your elbow and steered you further down the hallway away from the room filled with eavesdropping lordlings.
Around the next corner, he finally released you and spoke. “You looked uncomfortable. I was trying to help.”
You blinked in shock. You hadn’t thought about Wonwoo paying attention during your meetings even with him a few feet away. The thoughts you had about his opinions were limited to his amusement at seeing you paraded around, the comments from royals with barely enough brain cells to function. You hadn’t considered he was watching you during the entire ordeal.
You took a step closer, backing him towards the wall. “You think Jao made me uncomfortable?”
“He asked you to elope with him!” Wonwoo argued.
“Jao is a harmless flirt.” Another step forward, and Wonwoo’s back hit the wall. He didn’t seem to notice.
Wonwoo grumbled. “He didn’t seem harmless.”
You stepped closer, leaving barely an inch of space between you. “You don’t think I could handle Jao myself?”
Wonwoo seemed to finally realize the position he was in, eyes widening when your hands rested on his chest. “You’re right, he probably needed someone to protect him from you.”
“Oh, I’m just sooo terrifying, aren’t I?” Your eyes locked on his mouth.
He dipped his head, lips brushing your ear as he spoke. “I heard you have a nasty habit of freezing men to walls.”
“Baseless rumors,” you said breathlessly, barely an inch away from kissing him.
Down the corridor, shoes shuffled along the floor, knocking you from whatever trace possessed you to kiss Wonwoo in the hallway where anyone could see.
They were distant but gaining swiftly. Afraid it was someone coming to speak with you about how rude it was to leave your own party early, you searched for somewhere – anywhere – to hide. Luckily, you recognized the woodland tapestry on the far wall and pulled it aside, shoving Wonwoo behind it before joining him. He tried to speak but you silenced him with a finger against his mouth.
“Why are we in the dark?” Wonwoo whispered, lips dragging against your finger. The words tickled across your skin where you pressed together.
You shushed him, ears perked as the footsteps drew closer.
There wasn’t much space in the cubby to begin with and paired with his broad frame, you were close enough his chest brushed against yours with each inhale. Wonwoo eyes widening when you leaned a little closer; pressed a little firmer, crowded him against the wall with nowhere to retreat once more. He was so warm and solid, completely unlike your element. Intoxicating. Even with someone right outside, you couldn’t resist the urge to touch him. Your hand slid down to his chest and rested on the waistband of his pants.
No one expected you anywhere; you could easily raise on your toes to kiss him and nobody would have a clue; just like you wanted to before being interrupted by reality. You could drown in him, completely swept away while people shuffled right past the tapestry none the wiser. Only swollen lips and ruffled clothing to give you away.
He must have thought the same, eyes darting towards your mouth before he leaned closer…
Only to tuck his face in the crook of your neck and trace the curve with the tip of his nose.
Your fingers curled in his shirt as his breath puffed against your skin, a flare of goosebumps raising with a shiver. The click of footsteps passed and disappeared, but you remained tangled together in the dark.
“Thank you for the books, by the way,” Wonwoo whispered.
“Did you have a chance to read some of it?”
“A few pages,” he sighed, hands flexed on the dip of your waist.
“Sorry Maoki ruined your copy.” Your own arms snaked around his shoulders, fingers toying with the hairs at the nape of his neck until Wonwoo shuddered. This close, you could feel the blood rushing in his veins, the throb of his pulse beating heavily. Like that night in the forest. “What did you think?”
“The Belle Dame seemed familiar…”
“How so?”
Before Wonwoo could answer, a new pair of footsteps echoed down the corridor.
“I swear, I thought she went this way,” a squeaky male voice said.
You jolted back, the space between you and Wonwoo growing as you listened intently to the conversation clearly not meant for your ears. His leg still pressed between your legs and your hands bunched in his shirt but whatever haze filled the space evaporated.
Another deeper voice responded, “And what are you planning to do when you find her? Demand a private audience? I doubt she even knows your name.”
“I’ll have you know we spent yesterday afternoon in the gardens together. We would have had a lovely time if it wasn’t for her guard dog getting in the way.”
Maoki.
“She’s absolutely vile,” a new voice chimed. They all stopped right in front of the curtain where you were tangled with your guard dog in an incredibly compromising position. “If she wasn’t in line for the crown then no one would put up with it!”
“Even with the crown, she’s not worth the trouble,” said the deeper voice.
“I don’t know…” said Maoki. “There’s some satisfaction in taming a woman as head strong as her.”
“If she doesn’t bite your head off first.”
“Women like her just need the right man.”
You didn’t need to be tamed by anyone, let alone someone like Maoki. You moved to reveal yourself and remind him of that fact but Wonwoo stopped you with his hand on your elbow, the heat of his palm warming through the delicate fabric of your dress, his thumb rubbing small circles.
“I’ve never met such a beautiful woman with such an ugly disposition.”
When they moved on, you stayed rooted in place, flushed with embarrassment. It would have been one thing to hear their opinions of you alone but in the company of someone else the insults made you flush. Did Wonwoo agree? Were you the vile woman people only put up with because of the glittering crown atop your head? Because it was his job? Was his only motivation the fact you held his life in your hand?
“Are you okay?” Wonwoo asked.
The security of the dark, a safe place where dangerous thoughts existed in excess, vanished. He was too close. To you, to the truth, to melting the careful mask of regal indifference crafted from years in the court. You weren’t able to keep it in place as firmly with Wonwoo around and it was terrifying being so close without the armor of a crown. You were practically naked in front of him, only able to hide because he couldn’t see the pinch of your mouth.
You swallowed the embarrassment like thick medicine, healing the parts of you softened and hardening them back as they were. “I’m fine. I’ve heard worse.”
Not wanting to look at him, you left the alcove and strode down the corridor back towards your apartment. You’d make up some excuse about needing your seamstress before the ball tonight or taking a nap to fill the afternoon, find something to read. Or maybe hide away in the bath until your fingers pruned. Whatever it took to avoid the pity in his eyes.
You didn’t need any excuse. The dress you originally planned to wear needed finishing alterations. Your seamstress Maya pinned and unpinned the hem of your gown dozens of times, hiding her exhaustion with your indecision under her breath. It was beautiful. The red fabric poured down your figure, clinging to every curve and the open back revealed just enough skin. No jewels or embroidery, just simple silk. Something felt missing but after the fifteenth attempt, you and Maya called a truce.
“A little bird told me you left your party early this afternoon,” Han said as she pinned a comb in your hair.
Sami dabbed perfume around your neck. “With Won—”
“I don’t want to talk about it.” You watched in the mirror as they exchanged a look over your head, thankful the other servants had dismissed themselves for the night already.
Han grabbed a delicate gold necklace from the stand on the counter and clasped it around your neck. “You like him.”
“Of course I do.”
It felt horrible and freeing to admit it. You spent the entire tea party imagining if it was him sitting across from you and not the others. Just you two. Alone. Talking about books, and his friends in the city. Exchanging stories from childhood. You wanted to know exactly how he got the silver scar at his brow. Share the time you and Mingyu tried to scale the garden walls and ended up with matching scars of your own on the center of your palm.
You liked Wonwoo so much, maybe even felt even more than that; but your feelings didn’t matter. He was who he was and you were what you were.
Han plucked another pin from the velvet tray and pressed it into your hair. “Then what’s stopping you? You’re the princess. If you can’t be with whoever you love, then what hope is there for the rest of us.”
“I—“ you began to argue, eyes closing. The vein in your temple throbbed.
“If you really wanted to be with him, you’d go to your grandmother and tell her,” Sami said.
“What if he doesn’t want me?”
Han looked to Sami with disbelief. “She’s joking.”
“The tournament is the day after tomorrow.”
“I know,” you said, focusing on your hands in your lap.
“Are you sure you don’t—”
“I want to get this over with. In silence. If you don’t mind.”
They wrapped up their work as you asked and left with a gentle squeeze on your shoulders. With no more reasonable delays, you exited your room and found Wonwoo sitting on one of the couches reading a book in a crisp black uniform.
He looked up as you approached, wide eyes skirting over your body. The book tumbled out of his hand and onto the cushion as he rose to his feet.
“You look—” he started softly.
Not wanting to hear whatever he had to say, you cut him off. “Let’s go. I don’t want to be late.”
The ballroom was packed. You smiled at the crowd even though your heart squeezed, mind replaying over what Wonwoo was going to say over and over again but the crowd inside the ballroom swallowed you whole; an easy distraction. Men and women introduced and reintroduced themselves; like packs of wolves in glittering gowns and fine suits, teeth gleaming in the light of the chandeliers. In the chaos, you forced yourself to concentrate on the years of court manners ingrained in your bones. You were an untouchable island and you would survive tonight and the day after. And when the week was done, you’d be married and whatever Wonwoo planned to say would be forgotten.
Music and laughter bounced off the walls, the dance floor a sea of jewels and colorful silks as couples twirled around. From the ceiling acrobats tangled themselves in silk ropes, flipping and twisting, unraveling just to climb back up and start again. Actors stood on pedestals, skin painted and wearing masks to resemble different spirits; they froze in place as partiers circled them. Through the massive windows of the far wall, you watched hundreds of lanterns float into the sky from the gardens.
One of your favorite festivals and the usual cheer felt impenetrable. If you couldn’t enjoy it, then you’d distract yourself from feeling anything at all.
You danced with every man who asked, successfully avoiding the edge of the dance floor where he waited next to your grandmother. The music swelled and faded over and over until their faces blurred together as you were led straight into the next song. You knew Wonwoo was watching. He was always watching, but you avoided his gaze even though it prickled across your skin.
When the current dance ended, you curtsied to Kabaar who walked away with a disillusioned frown; most of the men you danced with did. What they anticipated, you didn’t know. You tried to smile and nod and flatter but insincerity rang clear.
The orchestra took a break, leaving you to hover awkwardly on the floor without a partner. Your feet were sore and your head hurt but there were few options to hide without the cover of music and dancing. A walk in the garden? Perfect place to be alone in the dark with Wonwoo. Sneak out the servant's entrance? Your grandmother would kill you. You could douse yourself in wine again but that left you back in your room with Wonwoo. The only option was to take your place on the dias next and rest your feet until another song started.
“How many more are left?”
“Just two,” Lin said. “Gyan and Char.”
A servant walked passed with a tray of wine and your fingers itched to tip the entire thing over, give yourself a reason to leave early. You snagged a glass and downed it quickly before grabbing another. Your eyes rolled. “Wonderful.”
Lin opened her mouth, no doubt to chastise you for the vulgar display but Gyan materialized as if summoned, offering his hand.
You turned, a smile plastered back in place. The wine already flushed through your veins. You finished your second cup before taking his hand and spinning back out to the floor.
The rosy glow from alcohol served little relief. Gyan jerked you around the floor, narrowly missing your feet with each step. “You are a lovely dancer, Your Highness. Like a deer.”
“Thank you,” you nodded, teeth clashing together as he pulled you roughly; completely ridiculous. In your tipsy haze, your self control slipped from its tight leash; on instinct, you looked at Wonwoo for the first time tonight. His eyes widened in shock before he schooled his features back to neutral. Then, when you didn’t rush to look away, he offered an awkward smile.
The first time you looked directly at him all night and it was just as dangerous as you knew it would be.
Luckily, the music changed for the last dance and someone else appeared out of the crowd to distract you.
“Your Highness,” Char announced with a deep bow. “Please honor me with a dance.”
“Of course.”
Char danced far better than Gyan. He whirled you around the dance floor with graceful expertise, none of the stomping of Gyan or loud chatter the other suitors maintained. The orchestra swelled to fill the silence lingering between you and Char as your mind wandered thousands of miles away.
You stumbled when Char broke the delicate silence. “Have you ever been in love, Your Highness?”
Over Char’s shoulder, you looked straight into a pair of brown eyes again. He seemed prepared this time. The room faded under Wonwoo’s gaze full of unspoken things, full of all the moments someone or something interrupted. A jolt rocketed down your spine. Did he like to dance? Did he know any of the court dances? His bending was graceful enough, he’d probably pick them up quick enough if you showed him. Would he hold you like Char now? Hands proper, high on your bare back just below your shoulder blades. Or would he keep you closer than necessary? Hold you close while spinning across the dance floor. And if he did, when you looked up and met his eyes, would he kiss you in front of everyone without a care in the world?
Char spun you away, breaking your staring contest. With your back to Wonwoo, you looked up at the man guiding you across the floor as he spoke again. They weren’t the rich brown you’d grown fond of. They were green and full of pity.
“With your blessing, I intend to compete in the tournament tomorrow and if I win I hope we could grow fond of each other. I think we both understand what it's like to be torn between our duty and our desires.”
“I—” you stuttered. “I would be honored, my lord.”
“I believe we must do the best for our nation, even if our hearts lie elsewhere.” he said, his voice soft, as though the words were almost for himself as much as for you.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you said, voice quivering. Was it that obvious?
Char looked unconvinced. “Then I apologize for misreading the situation.”
The waltz continued.
Wonwoo stood at attention next to the raised dais where your grandmother sat, her ladies floating around with their maddening laughter as you spun across the dance floor gracefully. Maoki had squeezed himself into the first dance, stumbling about the dance floor, struggling to keep up with your strides. It would have been comical if Wonwoo wasn’t focused on finding a way to kill him.
If she wasn’t in line for the crown then no one would put up with it!
The crown on your head was the least alluring thing about you. If anything, it was the most frustrating part and the entire reason Wonwoo warred inside his mind at all times about his feelings.
There was so much more, so much you didn’t show the others but Wonwoo witnessed behind closed doors. You were funny, charming, stubborn, infuriating…
He couldn’t figure it out. One moment you were dragging him into dark corners, pressing yourself against him, trying to kiss him. And he wanted to do it. He would have if Maoki didn’t interrupt, spewing nonsense. But then the next you scurried away and ignored his existence.
It was exasperating. The worst part is he didn’t know if he wanted you to stop. He wanted you. He wanted you in the garden when your lips curled into a frown as you read. He wanted you in the training pavilion when you launched a torrent of water at his head and laughed. He wanted you when you threatened a noble with a smile on your face. He wanted all of it; you in all your forms. He wanted you all the time. But he couldn’t have any of it.
By the end of the week you’d have a husband and Wonwoo would be back in the barracks with nothing but memories to haunt him.
As every man but him took a turn guiding you across the floor, Wonwoo grew more restless. There were no knowing looks or silent jokes. There was nothing. You were completely absorbed in whatever they said, smiling and nodding along. But he saw the strain at the corner of your eyes, the muscles in your neck taunt and not from perfect posture.
And then, during Gyan’s turn, when he marched you around like the man had frogs in his pants, you looked at him and Wonwoo barely managed to catch himself from racing across the room and whisking you away to demand an explanation. He stayed rooted in place, watching as the music dissolved and the Queen announced her departure. You didn’t wait before leaving as well, striding out the open doors with Wonwoo struggling to follow.
Servants trailed with him but Wonwoo ignored them. He spent enough nights listening to the prolonged routine of their fussing, this was no different. He fell into line next to them, eyes glued to the dip of your spine visible from the open back of your dress. His fingers flexed at his sides, itching to reach out and feel the heat of your skin against his palms.
Through the door from the sitting room to your bedchamber, he watched from the corner of his eye as they removed your outer robes and jewels before ushering you into the bathroom out of sight. The few servants left prepared your bed before funneling out until Wonwoo was left in stifling solitude with the weight of his feelings.
He had no business being jealous and yet it squeezed his lungs until he couldn’t breathe. Seeing you bite your tongue pained him. Wonwoo wanted to hear whatever scathing comment bubbled on your tongue, sharing it like a secret only between the two of you. To see that careful wrangled control slip, unravel a shred of your facade to confirm you were still beneath it all.
Most all, he wanted to wash away that lingering sadness clouding your eyes.
He couldn’t bear the thought of you upset, willing to do anything to fix it.
He knew one way; a completely selfish, ludacris way to make you feel better. He paced his room like a caged lion as he turned the idea over and over; weighing the benefits and drawbacks. No matter how foolish it would be, the same point reared its head: you’d like it. It was stupid but before he could think more about it he was standing outside your door, hand raised to knock. Just as his knuckles met the hard wood, it shot open.
“Oh!” you gasped, jumping back in surprise. “I was gonna call a servant for tea. Did you need something?”
Water from your bath clung to your hair, dampening the fabric of your nightgown and making the white fabric sheer around your collarbone.
“No, I—” His tongue felt too big for his mouth. Like a little boy again gathering the courage to speak to his schoolyard crush, Wonwoo shuffled on his feet as you stared at him confused.
“You what?”
“Do you still have those servant clothes?”
There was a long pause before you nodded.
“Have you ever been to the festival in the city?”
You shook your head no. More beads dropped from your hair with the motion, sparking in the low candlelight as they fell before blotting your top. Wonwoo did not look.
You weren’t wearing bindings beneath your nightgown. It made perfect sense but Wonwoo never thought about it before. He tried hard not to now.
“Do you want to?” he asked.
Whatever consequences conjured in his mind about sneaking you out of the palace dissolved as a beaming smile took over your face. He couldn’t help but smile too.
“Really?”
“Yeah, but we have to hurry or we’ll miss it.”
You whipped around, beeling for the gigantic bed in the center of your room. Wonwoo instinctively followed. You pulled a pile from beneath the mattress before looking back at him.
“Turn around,” you commanded.
Wonwoo did as asked but even though he couldn’t see you undress, he heard everything. The woosh of your nightgown hitting the floor, the sound of you shimmying the pants up your legs. Two times you’d been completely naked only a few feet from him and it drove him mad. He forced his body to remember why he was doing this; even if he wanted to crowd you down into the mattress and show you all the ways he was better. More giving, more devoted. Wonwoo was going to give you something those lordlings and princes never could: a real taste of the city.
It was easier to navigate the tunnels now that Wonwoo knew where they led. Emerald Park laid deserted and with the celebration at the palace still raging on, the Noble District was still. Wonwoo thanked the spirits for his months of mundane patrols, easily avoiding the footpath of guards as you followed close behind. This late at night most windows were dark and the ones that weren’t, framed people still partying and drinking, completely unaware of anyone sneaking past their door.
It didn’t take long to reach Merchant’s Row where the streets were packed with more people than usual, most wearing colorful spirit masks and costumes for the occasion; giant paper puppets of spirits floated through the air, lanterns of all colors burning brightly as fireworks exploded overhead, the moon a bright backdrop to dazzling displays.
You fell into step next to Wonwoo, fingers tangled together to keep close. He tried not to think too much about it.
“Why are they wearing masks?” you asked.
“Tradition.”
Wonwoo snagged two half masks from a merchant stall, a dragon for himself and a parrot for you. Your eyes crinkled as he pulled it over your head. This close he could count every single eyelash. He had the sudden urge to kiss you. Not the wanting kisses he’d come to expect with you. He wanted to kiss you, hold your hand, and just… be. Was he imagining you leaning closer or was he? Your eyes dropped to his mouth and then—
Someone barreled into him before he figured it out.
“Spirits, I’m so sorry!” the man slurred. “Wait, Wonwoo?”
Wonwoo turned to find Soonyoung staring at him with glazed eyes and ruddy cheeks stark against a green unagi mask pushed up on his head. Clearly, the man had started partying early like every year. Wonwoo smelled the reek of fire whisky and there was smudged lipstick hugging his collar.
“I thought you were working at the palace?”
“Yeah, they, uhhh” Wonwoo panicked. “They gave me the night off.”
But Soonyoung didn’t care for his explanation, he was staring past Wonwoo and staring directly at you with wide eyes.
“Wait, you’re that girl from the warehouse,” he shook a hand in your direction, the bottle of firewhisky clutched in it spilling over. “I’m a huge fan.”
You looked unsure, passing a weary glance to Wonwoo and stepping closer. “Um, thank you?”
“No, thank you. I haven’t seen Wonwoo get his ass handed to him like that since we were kids.”
“Well,” you smirked. “It wasn’t that hard.”
“Do you work at the palace too?”
Wonwoo felt you go rigid. “Something like that.”
Soonyoung leaned conspiratorially towards Wonwoo, whispering loud enough even people across the street could hear through the clamor,“I like her. Here, have this.”
He forced the half-drank bottle into your hand. Wonwoo watched as you took a confident swing and immediately regretted it.
“This is disgusting!” you sputtered.
“The more you drink the better it tastes! Nice to meet you!” Soonyoung called before the crowd swept him away.
With his friend gone, you turned back to Wonwoo, face twisted in disgust. “People drink this?”
Wonwoo snatched the bottle and took a long swing, eyes set on yours. Your face glowed, sweat from every pore thanks to the heat of packed bodies; your lips still wet from the whiskey as your eyes trained on his tongue licking away a rogue drop at the corner of his mouth.
It was you who broke first this time.
Wading further down the street, you staunchly ignored Wonwoo and combed through the wares of vendors. Talismans and scrolls of all kinds promising a safe winter crowded most tables, others presented jewelry and pottery, spices and cakes. The buzz of whiskey numbs his brain but not his skin. Your hand is still tangled with his as you tug him along. Wonwoo realized he doesn’t really mind shopping, at least with you. You don’t buy anything but you ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’ over everything like you couldn’t have it all if you really wanted it.
The apothecary’s stall proved to be trouble.
Colorful vials and jars lined the table like neat rows of soldiers in different colors, all with various contents; some ingredients and some finished products. Most were unrecognizable to Wonwoo but he knew the one in your hand well enough.
“That’s not for you,” Wonwoo said as he plucked the vial from your hand and placed it back down, ears burning.
You immediately picked it back up and cradled it to your chest with a furious scowl. “How do you know?”
“It’s an aphrodisiac,” he said harshly. “Planning on seducing someone?”
You don’t need to, he thought. The bottle of fire whiskey in his hand became a dead weight instantly. He took about swig to distract himself as you scrambled to put the vial back.
“For a couple such as yourselves, I’d recommend this one.” The merchant, an old woman with deep wrinkles and silver eyes, lifted a similar vial filled with an inky blue liquid. “Just the thing to help the seed take.”
“The seed?”
Wonwoo pulled you away before she answered. He couldn’t do anything about the images in his head, they were there whether he liked it or not. You, him, back in your bed; so much naked skin; planted between your legs for hours until you both gasped for air. Where he could learn what every hitch of breath or tiny whimper meant, play with you until you're nothing but a soaked mess for him to clean up with his tongue. And only when you begged him for it would Wonwoo give you his cock. Again and again until the inferno inside him ceased.
You wouldn’t beg, though. He knows you wouldn’t because he wouldn’t be able to drag it out long enough that you’d have to. He’d give you everything, cave before you even thought to ask.
“You don’t need to be such a brute,” you huffed and shrugged his hold off your arm.
“She’s trying to sell you fertility potions!”
“So! It’s not like I was planning to buy it!”
In Wonwoo’s head, he imagined the night much differently. Loose flashes of you laughing, gleefully enjoying the chaos of the holiday while he stood back and soaked the sound in. This was anything but that. He didn’t want to argue with you. He especially didn’t want to endure a hard on because of an argument with you; a fact he would never admit even under torture but there was something about the way the air crackled around you when you got fired up. But that hadn’t been the point of sneaking you out of the ivory palace walls.
He wanted a night where you weren’t a princess, and he wasn’t your guard; a night where you were just you, and the insurmountable mountain of reasons his fondness was dangerous didn’t threaten to drown him like a tsunami. Apparently the spirits didn’t agree.
“I’m sorry.”
“I’ll forgive you,” you sniffed. “If you show me where to get one of those things.”
Wonwoo followed your gaze to a group of kids stuffing their face with fried dough covered in powdered sugar. Luckily, he knew exactly where to get one but the velvet purple tent of a fortune teller lured you in.
You tugged at his sleeve, dragging him closer. “Come on, it’ll be fun!”
“She’s a hack,” Wonwoo snorted.
“What’d you say?” an older voice called through the opening. A woman came out of the darkness, hunched over with knobby fingers and thick dark hair with bolts of gray.
Wonwoo began to corral you away. “Nothing, ma’am. Have a good night.”
“Wait!” she croaked. Her face might have been aged but her silver eyes crackled with energy. “Madam Via sees the unseen, hears the unheard. Step inside and I can find the answers you seek. Or, perhaps, a glimpse of the future?”
Wonwoo shot a glance at your hopeful face before scrubbing a hand down his own and asking, “How much?”
“Three gold coins for her, five for you. I don’t like smart mouths.”
He kept his next remarks under his breath while handing over the coins.
“Come this way dear, I can tell you’re the more pleasant one.” Madam Via returned back inside the tent, leaving you and Wonwoo alone.
“Well, at least she has one thing right,” you snarked.
“I doubt she knows what happened in that greenhouse.”
You stuck your tongue out at him before disappearing behind the curtain.
Wonwoo didn’t like the idea of you going in alone. What if the fortune teller recognized you? As unlikely as it was, the idea made him uncomfortable. But he remembered that you were you and if anyone could handle themselves it was you. Your bite was far worse than your bark and Wonwoo trusted you to handle yourself should need arise.
It hadn’t stopped him from trying to eavesdrop.
But the thick purple walls of the tent trapped any noise from the inside. He rocked back and forth on his toes, the chatter of passersby filling the silence alongside the chimes of glass beads strung up around the tent. Having grown comfortable standing at your side at all times, to have you suddenly disappear felt like half of him was absent.
He counted the number of beads in the curtain covering the entrance, traced the golden embroidery of the tent walls until his eyes returned to their starting point. He finished off the bottle of fire whiskey and the weight on his shoulders lightened as his thoughts turned hazy.
You barrelled out of the tent with an impatient tuff before masking your features. Whatever Madam Via told you, you hadn’t liked it. Your mask was gone and Wonwoo pulled his off too, suddenly feeling silly.
“What did she tell you?”
“Don’t make unnecessary journeys. Oh, and to avoid Komodo Shrimp for the next few days.”
Wonwoo scrunched his nose. “Why?”
“Probably because they aren’t in season. I don’t know!” Your eyes rolled. “She said to send you in.”
Wonwoo shook his head. “I’m not going in there.”
“Awww, big scary Wonwoo afraid of a little old lady,” you teased.
He sighed, knowing there was no way to get out of it. “Don’t go anywhere.”
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll stay right here.” He ducked inside.
“Welcome,” Madam Via greeted from her seat at a round table covered with a dark cloth, its surface cluttered with cards and brilliantly colored crystals he’d never seen before; a clear crystal ball sat in the center.
The smell of incense strangled the air, smoke curling towards the ceiling. Inside the tent, low candles illuminated the space in a warm glow, the walls covered in tapestries of different colors and images. It made him feel claustrophobic.
“Sit down, you’re letting all the cold air in.”
Wonwoo mumbled an apology and sat on a cushion across from her.
Madam Via produced a ceramic teapot and pushed it into his hands. “Warm this.”
He didn’t think to ask how she knew he was a firebender. The teapot was cool in his hands but Wonwoo slowly pushed heat into it until steam started curling from the spout. The old woman used the time to spoon dried leaves out of different containers into matching cups and set them in front of him.
“Now, pour the tea.”
“I thought I was here to get my fortune read, not for a tea ceremony,” he quipped.
“I like your girlfriend so I’ll let that one slide but next stupid question and I’ll put a curse on you.” She shook a knobby finger at him. “Now drink your tea.”
Wonwoo wanted to argue but thought better of it. The tea tasted earthy, notes of jasmine and rose bloomed on his taste buds. He finished it quickly, barely allowing it to linger on his tongue before swallowing the last mouthful.
Madam Via snatched the cup from his hands and examined the contents. “Well, isn’t that interesting.”
“What?” Wonwoo tried looking into the cup.
“Reading the leaves is an art. Look at the sides of the cup, what do you see?”
The leaves stuck in odd patterns around the rim and walls of the porcelain. The top formed a clear ring but the sides seemed like nothing more than tangled threads. At the bottom the sediment from the leaves resembled a deformed blob. None of it meant much to him.
“I see…a dirty tea cup.”
“What that girl sees in you,” the fortune teller mumbled under her breath. “Look, there. The leaves form a heart at the bottom.”
“That's a blob,” he said.
This time she swatted him with a fan.
“Fine! It’s a heart. What's the big deal?”
Madan Via swatted him again before explaining. “Hearts mean love and relationships. With the knots on the sides it could be conflict. A crossroads…maybe. A path split in two, but you are caught at the intersection, unable to move in either direction. Any recent trouble with your girlfriend?”
Wonwoo’s ears burned red and he mumbled, “She’s not my girlfriend.”
“You love her, she clearly loves you. I’m not sure it’s as complicated as you think.”
“I didn’t say anything about lov—“
“It radiates off you both like the stench of the western harbor. A blind man could see it.” Madam Via rolled her eyes like the idea exhausted her. “I won’t pretend to understand whatever reasons you have for not being with her but what I do understand is you don’t meet a woman like her every century.”
Wonwoo knew she was right but he didn't feel like giving her the satisfaction of agreeing.
“Now, see how some of the leaves form a circle at the rim? It indicates a happy union is on the horizon. So maybe if you had any sense you’d find a way to make things work.”
Yeah, right. Anger burned in his chest. This lady clearly prayed on the hopeless, selling promises of futures with no possibility of coming true. A happy union? In what world would he be allowed to marry you? He’d have better luck airbending than changing the way the world worked. Maybe if you both ran away and started over, became the couple that existed here in the Middle District away from expectations. But how long would that last? You’d never agree anyway; and he didn’t want you to. If he had you, it’d be nothing less than all of you. Crown included.
Wonwoo didn’t say anything.
“Anyway, the future’s a mess. You’ll figure it out, or you won’t. Kiss the pretty girl you love or don’t.” She shrugged. “Doesn’t matter to me.”
Wonwoo shook his head, shifting on the cushion. “Are we done here?”
Madam Via’s eyes rolled for the umpteenth time and took a sip of her own suddenly steaming tea. “She asked about you.”
That kept Wonwoo in place. “She did?”
“Of course she did.”
“Whatd she ask?”
“I’m not a charity,” she sniffed. “For two more gold I’ll tell you.”
Crazy old snit. Wonwoo rolled to his feet and ducked out of the tent without looking back.
Of course, you were gone. It really shouldn’t surprise him.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” he seethed. He shouldn’t have been that angry; not after spotting you barely a few steps away watching the other festival goers dance but Madam Via’s words wove a cord of frustration deep inside him and it boiled into hot vexation. A muscle jumped in his jaw as he clenched it shut.
You took one look at his face and laughed. “Who ruffled your feathers?”
“You were supposed to wait outside the tent.”
“I’m maybe ten feet away. Is it that big of a deal?”
“What if you got lost? Do you know how to get home?”
“I’d figure it out.”
“Before or after getting in trouble with the guards? Again.” Wonwoo burst out, unable to contain himself.
To your credit, you didn’t stomp your foot like he knew you’d like to. Instead, you iced him out completely and focused back on the people skipping around the plaza to the rapid drumbeat.
Happy union my ass.
He hadn’t enjoyed watching from the sidelines as other men led you around the room earlier. He hated it. Especially when Gyan stomped you around the room like an idiot. He hated that he took so much notice of the fact you pointedly refused to look at him until that point, and then again when Char spun you around the dance floor. As much as he didn’t want to dance now, Wonwoo knew this might be the only chance he’d get.
“Do you… do you want to dance?”
“Are you going to yell at me again?”
Wonwoo shook his head and proceeded to forget everything but relief as you took his hand. The bad mood woven into his veins by the fortune teller fell away, flooded with content to replace it. He spun you around and around to the beat of the drums, time fading until it was just you two and the world outside blurred. This was what he wanted; to be the only two people in the world. Together.
The next dance involved lots of spins and lifts. As with most peasant dances, partners passed around before coming back and each time you turned away from him, Wonwoo’s heart zapped with something as you came back, beaming from ear to ear.
He decided he’d dance until his legs stopped working if that smile was a reward.
The music swelled, drums and claps increasing in tempo. On the next pass, Wonwoo snagged you around the waist and pulled you into his chest. Whether it was the fire whiskey or all the spinning that made him dizzy, Wonwoo didn’t know; but it didn’t matter when he bent down and kissed your cheek – a fleeting touch of lips against your skin. It wasn’t anything grand, but as soon as he pulled back, you both froze and his face flushed.
“I—” he faltered. There was no explanation strong enough for why he did it.
Then you rolled up on your toes and kissed him with unmistakable certainty, right there on the outskirts of the makeshift dance floor, not a care who saw. Your mouths fit together like puzzle pieces, your hands wrapped around his neck keeping him close like he’d consider pushing you away. Wonwoo pulled you closer to banish the thought. He didn’t want the heat of pressing you into a wall where no one could see. He wanted the comfort of kissing you out in the open, like any other man in love was allowed to.
Love.
A deafen clap of thunder roared from the sky forced you two apart. Wonwoo jerked back and blinked wildly, pulling you closer in confusion. Something wet hit his face and then again and again as the clouds opened and released thick curtains of rain that soaked you both to the bone in seconds.
Wonwoo grabbed your hand and pulled you through the streets, back towards the palace. The roads cleared thanks to the storm sending everyone inside for cover. He dodged around corners but no one paid attention to a pair of young people running home from a typhoon.
The Noble’s Quarter was dark and Wonwoo knew the guards on patrol would be waiting out the storm at the watch station, waiting for the change in shifts given the late hour. He barreled through the streets with you in tow. Lightning illuminated the streets through the thick sheets of rain but it was muscle memory that guided him back to the statue in the park. He pried open the inconspicuous opening and descended inside, waiting at the bottom for you to join.
One second he was watching you descend the ladder, next he was on his back, cushioning your fall.
“Wonwoo! Are you okay?”
He coughed from your elbow plowed into his stomach.. “What the hell—“
You scrambled up right, sitting on his stomach as your hands caressed his skin, looking for damage. “I’m so sorry! I saw a guard and—“
The rain had matted your hair down to your skull, clung to your lips. He swallowed. Rain rushed outside, a dull hum to match the ring in his ears. You drew water from his hair and he felt the sore spot at the back of his head warmed as you healed the worst of the damage. Wonwoo tried very hard to keep his hands on your waist and not slide them up, pull you down, and kiss you breathless. Your hands traveled down his neck, ghosted over his jaw and made him shiver.
There was a shout from above and you sat up straight, eyes wide.
“We need to get back.”
You both took off down the tunnels, feet pounding against the ground and breath panting loudly. Finally, the familiar passage outside your office rushed up. But you took a last minute turn to a new door Wonwoo had never seen before.
It led to your bedroom.
You waltzed ahead, shrugging off your tunic and stripping to your bindings without a care. Wonwoo had seen you in far less but it didn’t make the roar in his ears any less demanding despite the pain in his back demanding attention. You tossed your clothes back under your bed and turned to him, guiding him to sit while he tried to stare at anything other than the press of your breasts against the silk.
“Does this hurt?” you asked, fingers prodding the tender flesh of his back.
He’d certainly bruise come morning, some lingering soreness if he was lucky. Wonwoo couldn’t find much reason to care about it. Fatigue already blurred the corners of his vision. It’d been such a long night already. If his options were staying awake to find a healer down in the infirmary or going to bed and dealing with the consequences later, he’d trudge down to his room and see to it first thing in the morning. He’d tally it along with all the other wounds he found himself collecting in your presence. “I’m fine.”
“Let me help.”
In the end it was the softness in your eyes that made him acquiesce. In the dark, with the candles and lamps extinguished, the worries that kept him grounded floated away. The rain pounding against the windows lulled his heart. He always slept best when it rained. You disappeared into the bathroom and came back with a pitcher of water.
“Take your shirt off.”
Wonwoo spurted, suddenly completely awake. That was out of the question.
“I can’t heal you through your clothes,” you huffed.
He swallowed again, remembering the last time you healed him in the field. But this time would be different. He’d let you heal him, maybe kiss you again, and then he’d go to his room down the hall – alone – and pretend it was your hands touching him until he came and fell asleep.
He tugged the soaked shirt over head and closed his eyes.
If he was of sound mind, then the severity of the situation would have him rushing to flee. Alone with the princess, in her bed, with his shirt off and your own clothes crumbled on the floor painted a damning picture. But only the cool relief of the healing water dragged across his spine registered; knotted muscles relaxed, the sting of raw skin dulled and then disappeared under the gentle passes. His eyes closed before leaning forward to give you as much room as possible to continue the hypnotizing pattern.
“Better?”
You snickered at Wonwoo’s grunt of approval before continuing.
“You’re so tense.” Your palms dug into his shoulders with more force. No longer were they hovering over the skin, now the water provided a wet glide as you massaged the knotted muscles into submission.
A groan of relief clawed its way out before Wonwoo could swallow it back down. “I’m in charge of a princess that refuses to stay out of trouble.”
“She sounds awful.”
Wonwoo peered over his shoulder to find you focused on healing a cut on his upper arm, a pleased smile spread across your face as the skin knit together in a faint pink line. “She’s not so bad.”
His early arousal stirred just out of reach, stoked into an ember from the fan of your breath against the short hairs at the base of his skull. If he leaned back he would feel your breasts pressed against him, your lips in reach. He wanted to, he really really wanted to. He almost did when you pressed your mouth to his shoulder.
But you pulled away and the cold that rushed into the empty space brought the tiredness he’d ignored all night forward. He could feel the sun just below the horizon; dawn wouldn’t be far off, promising another full day as minder to your meetings and tea parties, listening to entitled nobles fawn over themselves.
Exhausted, Wonwoo slumped forward.
He’d move to the sitting room. All he needed was a minute to find the energy…
You woke shivering. Stripped down to nothing but your under bindings, you tugged the covers tighter, soaking in the pleasant warmth radiating across your back; pushing back into it for more. The sun barely peeked over the horizon, the corners of your room stained dark.
A warm breeze tickled across your shoulder. Odd. Perhaps you forgot to shut the window last night before bed.
It's then you registered a weight across your waist and a rhythmic press against your back in time with that comforting gust of hot, humid air. Consciousness flooded in with each grating moment; until you were awake enough to slap behind you, making contact with something fuzzy and hard.
A masculine grunt responded, accompanied by a tight squeeze of the arm across your waist, dragging you closer.
Wonwoo.
He nuzzled further into your neck with a sleepy sigh, shifting his leg until his knee pressed between your own.
You considered slapping him again; however, the weariness of last night is too much to overcome for another swing. The consequences of him spending a night in your bed seemed so small next to the relief of his body heat against the cold. Wasn’t his job to protect you? Your greatest threat since he came to the palace was only the lingering cold you felt when he wasn’t around.
You remembered what the fortune teller said last night.
“Oh dear, Temperance in reverse,” the woman tsk’ed. Her tent was thick with smoky incense, candles burning low to cast the room in shadow.
You eyed the upside down illustration. “What does it mean?”
“Imbalance, struggle, strife. Being pulled in a hundred different directions. There’s conflict between what you want and what you think you can have.”
You can say that again, you thought.
“Maybe something to do with the young man outside?” she continued with an inquisitive brow.
You refused to respond and pulled another card from the spread, laying it next to the first one. A couple wrapped in a warm embrace stared back at you.
“Well, there you have it.”
“Have what exactly?”
“The Lovers. You might be used to making decisions from the head, but you must embrace what your heart wants. A powerful relationship can make the conflict Temperance warns of clearer. Or maybe the relationship itself is causing you confusion.”
“He’s not my boyfriend.”
“And why not? He’s easy enough on the eyes despite the attitude.”
“It's not…there’s nothing going on between us. He wouldn’t—and I can’t—“ you stammered.
“What does your heart want? Think about that and pick the next card.”
Your fingers brushed over the deck, itching to pinch one of the gilded edges and pull it out. You picked the bottom card and laid it down on the table.
“Oh, this is just too easy. The Two of Cups. Embrace your heart. Even if it seems impossible, maybe you’re making things overly complicated.”
It is impossible! you wanted to scream.
As if Madam Via heard your thoughts, her face softened a fraction. “Listen, life is too short not to take advantage of good things. You say it’s complicated? Maybe it is.”
“So what do I do?”
“You do what every person who has ever been in love does: enjoy it while you have it and worry about the future later.”
Worry about the future later…
Maybe the crazy old woman was right. For once in your life, you wanted to enjoy things for what they were in the moment. Like in the warehouse, or against the wall at the market, in the field, in the bath, in the alcove yesterday. Like last night when you danced with Wonwoo and no one cared, not a single soul paid you two attention and he kissed you so infuriatingly close to your mouth before acting like he hadn’t. And when you kissed him after because if he was going to kiss you he needed to do it right. You wanted simple and what you had right now was as simple as it got. Wonwoo asleep in your bed. Wonwoo’s arm tight around your waist. Wonwoo’s cock heavy against the curve of your ass.
There wasn’t anything more simple than stretching against the length of his body, pleased that the tantalizing firmness greeted you with a stretch of his own. Your thighs squeezed on instinct.
You’d seen plenty of men shirtless, through training or tutoring sessions with healers. But seeing men half dressed and feeling the defined muscles so intimately against your back were very different.
You rolled over to face him, buried your nose against the soft divot of his collarbone and breathed. Sleep tried to claim you again with the gentle rise and fall of his chest but Wonwoo didn’t let you. He was too tempting. Smooth warm skin, soft stomach your nails trace over mindlessly, his own slow breath ghosting against your forehead. You wanted to wrap yourself in him like a blanket and spend the day tucked away. Simple.
The hand around your waist tightened again as you brushed a kiss against his throat. You wanted to kiss him again like last night, when no one was around to offer reminders of how bad an idea it was. Somehow, you knew if you spoke the entire illusion would shatter. All those expectations would rush in; the reasons you shouldn’t want Wonwoo the infuriating way you did – can’t want him. So you didn’t speak. Instead, you feathered more teasing kisses across his shoulder, up his neck, and then a final one on his lips.
Take advantage of the good things. Like how Wonwoo’s hand skated up your back, the pleased groan in response to your nails digging into the crease of his hip bone.
He kissed back, slowly at first, dry chaste passes of his mouth across yours. The kind of kisses you could wake up to every morning without complaint; the inferno of previous encounters completely dormant. You didn’t think about anything else, only the easy way he rolled on top of you for the sake of kissing; tangled your fingers between his own and pressed you further into the mattress. The morning stubble on his chin scratched teasingly along your skin. Your hands acted on their own, cascading down his sides and across his back. The band of his pants brushed the tips of your fingers and you pushed beneath to find more intoxicating heat his body provides.
It was like that for a long time, returning the lazy kisses on your cheeks and chin, nose following the curve of your jaw. But then your legs spread to better accommodate his weight and he was there. The contact stoked you out of sleepy bliss, igniting desperate want. Your hips couldn’t help but curl up slowly, rocking against the length of him pressed right against your bindings.
A million reasons not to do it clouded the air but there was one good reason: you wanted to. And Wonwoo obviously wanted to. What you two did away from prying eyes was a secret you could live with if it meant you got to have at least some part of him.
Wonwoo rolled agonizingly slow between your legs. Each thrust of his sheathed cock pushed tiny mewls from your lips as his trailed further down your neck. He kissed everything he could; the sensitive skin beneath your jaw, the hollow of your throat, down to the seam of your bindings. All while his hands warmed your skin.
He tugged at the knot of your bindings until the silk strips slackened; tracing every newly bare strip of skin with his tongue as you arched and pushed more of your chest into his mouth.
“Please,” you sighed. You free hand knotted in his hair to give a deliberate tug. “Please.”
Each kiss across your chest and stomach only pushed you closer to the edge of insanity. You coaxed a hand between your legs for the smallest bit of relief, but Wonwoo was already there. He tugged at the small knot keeping the fabric secure until they loosened and then there was nothing between your bodies; you sprawled beneath him completely naked and exposed in the cold sunlight. He mouthed across your thighs, stubble leaving you raw for his tongue to sooth away.
This must be exactly what the maids giggled about over your head. It didn’t seem so funny now that you had it for yourself; the need for him urging you to claw out of your own skin.
You whined and squirmed under the first tender push of his fingers, parting you for his tongue that followed soon after. The sensation was wholly new and unlike anything you’d felt before. Nothing, not the things you’ve done to yourself or the memorable way Wonwoo fingered you the first time compared to the sweltering glide of his tongue.
“Wonu,” you gasped.
It must be the validation he needed because timid licks became heavy laps across your clit and sucked with enough force you jolted from the bed. Your hips rolled into the intoxicating friction. If you were frustrated before by the incomparable satisfaction of his fingers then this is a whole new level you’d never find again; completely addicting.
He flicked his tongue, fingers curved deep along your inner walls. You were so wet. So embarrassingly wet you’d blush about it if you had the brain power to even consider caring. Wonwoo made sure you didn’t, heady grunts of his own muffled in your core as his hips flexed down into the mattress.
You writhed for it, sweat beading along your skin as instinct took over and every twist of his tongue was met with a grind of your hips along it. Another drag of his mouth and your jaw clenched, legs kicking in an attempt to scramble away but Wonwoo pulled you to him — further down the sheets — and smothered himself between your legs; rewarding your dry moan with the stretch of another finger. Your eyes went fuzzy but you keep them open because he’s not wearing a shirt and the muscles roping along his spine are too mouth watering to look away.
Fingers itching for something to ground onto, your nails raked through his hair, over his bare shoulders until faint pink lines criss-crossed over pale skin. He moaned again, humped the bed in search for his own pleasure and you sat up on your elbows to watch.
It's all too much. The first wave drowned you. A squeeze along his fingers, and your hips rocketed off the bed; chasing the rough suck of his lips on your clit. You chanted his name, or something like it, until branded your tongue.
And then it was over. The comedown fizzled through your veins, muscles pliant as they twitched with aftershocks. You didn't — couldn’t — think of anything other than the dull throb and the terrible emptiness inside you as he removed his hand.
Wonwoo peppered more kisses along your stomach and thighs, slow and lingering as you caught your breath.
You pulled at his hair until his face was level enough to kiss, your tongue snaking along his lower lip until he opened his mouth, the taste of yourself evident but not undeterred. He kissed back eagerly as if suddenly you both were more awake.
Your hand curled into his pants and swallowed a hiss of pleasure as you stroked his cock. You wondered how he would taste, if there was enough time before your maids arrived to kneel between his legs and make him shake and beg like you had; if he’d take the time to teach you exactly how to make him come and let you practice again and again until you were both satisfied.
A prod at his chest with your free hand had him rolling over, lap the perfect seat for you to command him however you saw fit. You kept him locked in a kiss, panting and whining into it as two sets of hands forced his pants down his thighs. He sucked a nipple between his teeth, rougher than before, like he couldn’t get enough of anything. You weren’t any better; jerking him off, grinding against the flexed muscles of his thigh. Wonwoo’s hand cupped yours around his cock, squeezing your grip until it tightened like a vice and fucked himself through it; his stomach collapsed from a sharp gasp.
He was so close, a vision of messy black hair and flushed cheeks beneath you, chest glowing with sweat. An arch of your hips was all it’d take for him to be inside you, filling you, driving away that aching need he’d left since that first night you kissed him. You dove down and lapped at the tender dip of his neck to distract from the foolish idea.
Your name cracked from his lips, voice low and almost pleading. You were back beneath him in a flash; hands fisted in the sheets as he parted your legs and hooked them around his waist. His cock dug into the softness of your stomach before he moved lower, until the tip nudged your entrance, just breaching as you shifted up to search for more and then…
A sharp rapt at the door shattered the silence, followed by Han’s voice. “Your Highness!”
Wonwoo popped up over you, eyes wide in shock like he hadn’t realized exactly what you both were doing. You shoved him off and rolled from the bed.
“Put your clothes on!” you whispered, words like acid on your tongue. Truly, the last thing you wanted him to do was redress and face the day. You’d much prefer stripping the rest of him and spending the entire day in bed with Wonwoo between your thighs.
However, want as you might, having him in your room was threat enough to both of your reputations, nevermind that you spent the night with him; let him touch without a single protest in ways no one ever had. Almost let him have everything.
Lunging for your robe, you managed to cover enough to avoid suspicion of having Wonwoo in your room. Alone.
You answered the door with too much enthusiasm.
“Your Highness! Wonwoo is—in here?” Han peered over your shoulder to where Wonwoo stood by the window – thankfully – fully dressed. Only the mess of his hair gave inkling to what happened only moments prior, your core still tingled with after effects.
“Yes! Yes, he was helping me with a, um…”
“A bird,” Wonwoo nodded.
“Yes, I slept with the windows open last night to watch the fireworks and woke up to a bird…”
“A big bird!”
“Huge!” you exclaim. “And Wonwoo helped me…get the bird out.”
“Hopefully the poor thing is alright,” Han tutted, approaching the window to look for the imaginary bird she’d never find.
“It flew right out, perfectly fine,” he rushed to explain.
Han’s shoulders sagged an inch in relief. Apparently, that was enough for her to drop the entire issue of Wonwoo being in your room. “Would Your Majesty like for me to draw a bath? Such stress so early will not serve you well for your meetings.”
“That would be wonderful, Han.”
Wonwoo stood cemented in place as Han disappeared into the bathroom.
“Shouldn’t you…”
“Right, yeah,” he nodded before striding out the door.
The door to your suite clicked shut with Wonwoo’s departure. Immediately you collapsed into the bed once again, batting away the comforting warmth still lingering from entangled bodies. The pillow you landed face first in still smells like Wonwoo. Like the rain from last night, the powdery smoke that always lingered around him, and the cling of soap. Without thought, you inhaled until your lungs stretched uncomfortably.
So preoccupied, you didn’t hear the pitter patter of Han’s slippers until she stopped at the foot of the bed with a wicked gleam in her eye..
“It was huge, huh?”
“Shut up.”
Out in the seating room, Wonwoo forces his thoughts to the most unpleasant ones he can think of. Hoshi’s sweaty socks, the burn of a thousand fire push ups, freezing showers in the barracks…
He knew it was a bad idea. You had to know it was a bad idea too.
Mingyu lent against the fair wall outside Wonwoo’s room, shaking his head.
“A bird? Really?”
“Shut up,” Wonwoo growled.
“I don’t even need earthbending to tell you're a shit liar. You’re lucky I sent Han in there and not the more chatty servants.”
Wonwoo’s face burned. “I’m not lying.”
“Your shirt is on backwards.”
Wonwoo whipped his head down. His shirt was buttoned and proper but the fact he looked is incriminating enough.
“Whatever you two are not doing, I recommend really not doing it because she’s going to marry one of those princes and next time it might not be someone as gullible as Han who catches you.”
“We weren—”
“Those councilmen are looking for any reason to challenge the line of succession. If it looks like YN can’t control herself – like she let a man below her station compromise her – then her marriage prospects go down. Way down. As in not getting married.”
Mingyu was right. Sneaking you out last night was a risk. A risk he’d been willing to take at the time but a risk nonetheless. But what happened this morning was dangerous, to you, to him. If Han hadn’t interrupted, what would be happening right now? Would you be welcoming Wonwoo between your legs? He’d gotten carried away, forgotten the expectations you carried and why feeling you around him was a horrible idea. And if Han hadn’t knocked? If she stumbled in like a servant was meant to, then what?
Would she simply have turned a blind eye to her sovereign welcoming her guard between her legs like an eager lover?
“The Queen invited you for an audience this morning. Wash up and get dressed. You stink.”
“Did she say why?”
“Yeah, I ask her to explain every decision she makes.” Mingyu rolled his eyes. “Be ready in an hour. One of the maids will get you.”
“What about—”
“I’m on babysitting duty today.”
Mingyu left his room and Wonwoo contemplated drowning himself in the bath.
If the Queen knew what he’d been up to then she had endless ways to ruin his life. His mind wandered wild through the possibilities as he washed up. It seemed no matter how hard he scrubbed his face, your scent and taste clung to his senses; the sweet sound of your voice gasping his name, the wet heat of you on his cock.
Even the degenerate acts of the morning hadn’t outweighed the comfort of waking up with you in his arms, the gentle kisses across his chest that nearly convinced him he was still dreaming. Anything after that was beyond the realm of reality as far as he was concerned.
Whatever the Queen knew, or suspected, Wonwoo decided what he had with you was worth the risk. He enjoyed the time he was privileged enough to be granted, the short opportunity to love you and be your friend. Now he’d have to pay up. And if the cost was his life, so be it.
Wonwoo liked rules. The palace was full of them, some more exasperating than others but they kept him from losing his mind trying to figure out how to act.
Rule one: under no circumstances was it okay to touch the princess.
Rule two: do not speak unless spoken to.
Wonwoo at least had a chance to abide by the second one. Maybe it would earn him clemency for breaking the first one so recklessly.
“Captain Jeon, sit please.”
The Queen perched on a cushion in the center of the Azure Chamber. Candles and lanterns kept the space warm from the storm raging against the windows, fighting to break in. Even the deafening thunder is nothing compared to the crash of his pulse flooding his ears. There were no servants along the walls or bustling back from the table to serve the queen. She was utterly alone and Wonwoo remembered how you cornered Galin the same way.
Spirits help him.
Wonwoo sunk to the cushion across from her, stomach sinking deeper into the floor. He folded his hands in his lap, head bowed. It was easier to maintain bravado in the privacy of his room. In front of her, he felt like a scolded child waiting for judgment.
“Tea?”
He nodded mutely.
She gave a dry laugh. Through his eyelashes, Wonwoo saw her knobby hands spoon tea leaves into the porcelain cups as she talked. “You can speak, I won’t take your head for it.”
Not detecting a trap yet, Wonwoo answered. “Yes, Your Majesty. Tea would be great.”
Steam curled above the cups, a thin curtain between the two sides of the table. The queen seemed to appraise him and without realizing, Wonwoo unfurled his hunched shoulders and sat up straighter.
“What do you think of my granddaughter?”
This is it. A clear trap so she could banish him.
Wonwoo kept his eyes on the tea cup in his hands. “She will be a great queen, Your Majesty.”
“I have no doubt about that but what do you think about her? Not as queen but as a person.”
“I’m not sure I understand.”
“I’ve had dozens of men sit in front of me and wax poetically about my granddaughter and her virtues. She’s beautiful, she’s intelligent, she’s patient—”
Wonwoo snorted and immediately flushed with panic.
“You disagree?
“I think…” He risked looking up at her and found her lips quirked in amusement. It gave him the confidence to speak freely. “If that’s all they can compliment then they haven’t been paying good enough attention.”
“Now why do you say that?”
“She's beautiful but she’s as stubborn as a camel elephant. She is intelligent but she’s aggravating.” He shook his head. “She doesn’t listen. Her patience only lasts until the tip of her nose.”
The queen stared at him, surprised by his honesty.
“What else do you notice about my granddaughter?”
“She’s smart, caring. People respect her. Maybe not the nobles but the staff do. Even in the,” he trailed off. The queen already knew about the nights out of the palace but he felt like those moments - when his friends sung your praises after the fight in the warehouse, when the fortune teller grew fond of you immediately - those were private.
“Even where, Captain Jeon?” She leveled him with an expectant look. “When you snuck her out of the palace and into the city?”
He could have denied it; spun some story about how he had no idea the princess snuck out right under his nose, no knowledge of the maze of secret passageways beneath the palace. Wonwoo sat up straighter and decided if he was going to go down, he’d do it with dignity. “Yes, Your Majesty.”
She returned the porcelain tea cup in her hand to the lacquered tray, peering at Wonwoo with a smirk. “At least you have honor. Tell me, how did the citizens react to their princess in disguise.”
“The people in the Middle Districts didn’t know her but they liked her. She earned their respect without them knowing who she was.” He didn’t admit he liked you the moment he laid eyes on you, before he knew your name, or how fierce of a competitor you were; he liked you more after. It felt like a lifetime ago.
“I heard she did quite the number on you in the warehouse as well.”
“I—” Wonwoo silenced himself by taking a too large gulp of very hot tea.
“Captain Jeon, do you think anything happens in the palace that I don’t know about? I believe you witnessed her meeting with Galin.”
“You knew he was stealing and did nothing?”
“Who do you suppose whispered in his ear to approach my granddaughter about a new investment? You’ve met the man. He’s not bright enough to tie his own pants let alone run a scheme. It is better to keep the arrogant ones on a shorter leash than the rest.”
“So you set her up?”
“My granddaughter is stubborn and refuses to take the easiest path. Some lessons must be learned the hard way. She needed to learn not to take their word at face value.”
“But why?”
“The royal court is like a poisonous garden, some of the most unassuming plants are the deadliest. She needed to be tested and I believe she would have failed if not for you.”
He sat speechless.
“Finicky thing, water. It isn’t unyielding like earth, but it’s stubborn in its own way. You can’t keep it where it doesn’t want to be. No matter how you try to contain it, it will find a way around any obstacle. Water can be patient, slowly cutting the path it wants over years and years. But it can also be unwilling and destructive.” She looked to the dark windows, lightning reflecting off the panes. “My granddaughter needed to learn when to act and when to lay in wait for the right moment. At this very moment the nobles are in a frenzy because Galin’s meeting with her. They don’t know what was discussed but they know his grandson no longer resides in the temples his family has learned firebending at for generations. They know his daughters have returned to his estate in the countryside. Her actions have rippled across the court.”
“You don’t approve?”
“Oh, quite the contrary. I think she did a wonderful job taking advantage of that old idiot. There are a few nobles that respect her already. The ones that don’t are close friends of Galin’s and are afraid of her.”
“Good.”
“And you love her.”
“Yes, but—“ Wonwoo choked. There was honesty and there was stupidity and he feared he crossed the narrow line. “I didn’t mean…”
“When I was her age, I loved a man who was considered below my station. A guard who I became friends with as a young woman in the palace. There were hundreds of reasons not to pursue him and I was too afraid to pursue what I really wanted. I was afraid the nobles would not respect or fear me if I chose love over my duty. It’s one of the greatest regrets of my life.”
“But the king?” Wonwoo trailed off. The queens face grew fond, as if remembering the late king.
“I learned to love my husband and we grew very fond of each other,” she admitted. “But I don’t want my granddaughter to grow fond of a man when she has the opportunity to avoid the mistakes I made and marry a man she loves.”
She was talking about him. You loved him. Or, at least, the Queen thought so. And she was on his side. The queen, the one person with the power to make things work, wanted him to be with you. It didn’t feel real.
For a moment Wonwoo thought you wouldn’t appreciate being left out of such an important conversation. If he wanted to be with you, marry you, then the first person he should’ve spoken with about it was you. He imagined the anger, the hopefully empty threats to refuse given he didn’t ask you if you even wanted to marry him. But he also realized it was a good thing he didn’t because if he knew you wanted him completely – entirely – and there wasn’t a way to give you that, he’d never live with the disappointment.
“Tell me what to do.”
The queen pressed her hands to the table. There was a loose family resemblance but it was obvious in the raise of her chin and the stubborn tilt of her brow “The tournament for her hand starts tomorrow. In all honesty, I find it barbaric but the nobles respect tradition even if it’s a formality.”
Wonwoo knew about the tournament vaguely. Eligible royalty would declare themselves interested by competing, the winner married you. But Wonwoo wasn’t royal. “I can’t compete. I don’t have a title. I don’t have anything.”
“Nowhere in the rules does it require competitors to be titled. I believe, in my most recent reading this morning, it said competitors only need to be in good standing with the crown. Since I am the crown and I like you, I’d say that’ll do the trick. Besides, you don’t need to prove you are as good as those brats. You need to be better and based on Aiko’s appraisal of you, I’m confident you’ll succeed.”
“I… I don’t know what to say.”
“Do you love my granddaughter?”
Wonwoo answered without hesitation. “Yes.”
“Enough to marry her? To commit your life not just to her but to the kingdom?”
Then, Wonwoo hesitated. He knew he loved you, that he wanted to be with you. But did he want to rule a country? Live his life on display for the world to see? With a silver crown balanced precariously on his head?
“It’s a lot to ask. And it won’t be easy. Many of the nobles will object, even ones who I’d consider friends. But I’m quite fond of change. And you might be what this kingdom needs.”
Was he ready to help rule a country? He didn’t have the education or the money the others had; didn’t possess the connections from generations of high society. What could Wonwoo offer you that no other man could? What could he give you beyond himself?
But he remembered those times you sought him out in a crowd. When you drowned in the weight of responsibilities, he managed to pull you back above the surface. When you rushed ahead, he pulled you back. And when you didn't let anyone see the true you - you trusted Wonwoo to see and understand.
The only thing Wonwoo could give you was a sanctuary to ease your burdens.
Maybe that was enough.
“I’ll do it.”
You hid in the farthest edges of the garden, where the bristle grew in thick unkempt patches and the hedges nearly reached the sky. The worst of the rain had given way to a steady hammering, clouds thick enough the moon couldn’t shine through. Your shoes were ruined; caked with mud. The saturated ground refused to swallow more water, puddles the size of swimming pools spanning from one side of your escape to the other. Wind whipped cheeks burned from each stinging drop of rain and the warm tears you couldn’t stop. It was dull knowledge at the back of your consciousness.
Your heart laid heaving at your feet, half of it left in your room with Wonwoo. The other half still sitting in your chest ached for him too. Neither part belonged to you and you don’t know when it happened; when Wonwoo stole your heart and left you missing him even when he was within arms reach.
Or maybe you gave it to him that first night you snuck down to the warehouses and watched match after match for hours, only paying attention when Wonwoo was at the center of it. Or in the market when he saved you and didn’t have to. In the forest when he treated you like an equal. Maybe you chipped a small part away for him each time and now there was nothing left; nothing except for the lonely void for him to fill in ways he never could.
But it didn’t matter. What you felt wasn’t important, whatever it was couldn’t come true. There wasn’t a magic wand to wave and fix everything that was broken. What could you do? What could you do when there was no way to be with the only person you ever wanted?
You wanted to find Wonwoo and demand an answer; shake him until all the pieces fell into place.
However, your grandmother swept him into a meeting and kept him all day. None of the servants would tell you where they were and even when you discovered their location the guards wouldn’t budge. You found yourself pacing like a caged tiger, back and forth in front of the doors; hours dragged on and no one emerged so the gardens offered a respite from the anxiety.
Dread filled its place.
You felt the rain all around. Everything it touched dully tickled at your senses. That’s why you weren’t surprised when Wonwoo finally approached after spending fifteen minutes watching you from the archway.
“You’ll catch your death out here.”
“How horrible,” you said. You kept your eyes glued to the pond at your feet, how the surface rippled wildly from the rain. “What do you want?”
Wonwoo appeared in front of you, kneeling in the mud at your feet, only an arms reach away and yet so much further. “I’m seeking an audience with Your Highness.”
“Didn’t you spend all day with my grandmother?” You didn’t even attempt to hide the hurt in your tone. The last day of your freedom and he spent it locked away from you.
“Unfortunately, she couldn’t answer my question.” He’s soaked to the bone, the crisp lines of his uniforms limp from the weight of water. You’re at home in a storm like these. Wonwoo looked woefully out of place.
You swallowed thickly. “And what is your dilemma?”
“I'm in love with the queen-to-be. And I'm inquiring if she loves me too.”
The tears came hot and fast; you tried to blink them back but it was useless. Your head tilted back slightly, inviting more rain to sting on your face; they mixed with the tears washing down your face.
“I…” Your voice cracked. Wonwoo leveled his gaze with your own, searching for something. The mist of the rain blurred the space between you. “Of course I do and try as I might, I can’t figure a way out of it.”
An eternity passed in silence. Wonwoo watched you, the pathetic sight of red rimmed eyes and soaked clothes. He didn’t shy away from the ugliness you felt. He leaned closer, his hand trembling slightly as he grabbed yours, as if testing the waters. You let him.
“What if I had a way?”
“Wonwoo…” you sighed and looked away. You couldn’t bear to look at the desperate longing in his eyes; or how it mirrored your own heart.
“Don’t say my name like that.” He moved closer, hands resting on your thighs. You felt everything through your dress. His hands are almost unbearably hot even in the cold rain.
“Like what?”
“Like you’re saying goodbye.”
The rain fell harder. Deafening. You exploded with it, solemn tears turning into angry ones. “Isn’t that what we’re doing? After tomorrow this ends.” You motioned towards your hands. “I won’t have you standing next to me if I can’t have all of you. I won’t. I won’t do it.”
You’d been lulled into a false sense of security the past week. Dealing with reality in the daylight and having him in the shadows and the quiet dark of the night. You fooled yourself to believe it was enough, at least for the time. But you had to marry and your husband – no matter how forgiving – would never tolerate your closeness with Wonwoo; you wouldn’t be in their shoes.
Wonwoo didn’t let you hide from him. He cupped your face, forced you to look at him but you shut your eyes and refused; pressed his forehead to yours so his breath ghosted over your lips with his next words. “If you could marry me, would you?”
You wanted to scream It doesn’t matter! It didn’t matter that you loved him. It didn’t matter if you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him. You couldn’t have him. The world worked in absolutes and this was one of them.
“Don’t be ridiculous. It’s impossible. Why even—”
“I didn’t ask what was impossible. I asked if you’d marry me.”
You didn’t hesitate to finally open your eyes and meet his brown ones. “Yes.”
“Then trust me,” he asked softly. Begging.
“What exactly did my grandmother say to you?”
Wonwoo blanched, blinking as if he hadn’t expected you to ask.
“I—We have a plan. You’re not going to like it…”
“But?”
“She told me not to tell you.”
You exploded from the bench, crowding down on Wonwoo. “Are you serious? You expect me to blindly follow whatever plan you made with her and I don’t even get to know what it is”
“It has to be done a certain way.” Wonwoo stood and swept you into his arms. There was no one out here to see, no one stupid enough to catch an early death. Besides you two. “Just trust me. Please?”
You sank into him, savoring the comforting warmth he brought with him everywhere. You traced the hem of his collar with soft fingers. You did trust him. It wasn’t natural for you to put your faith in many people but time and time again Wonwoo showed you he was a good man. “Fine. But if this doesn’t work I’m going to drown you.”
“I’d expect nothing less,” he whispered into your hair. “Now will you come inside? It’s disgusting out here.”
Back in the seclusion of your apartment, you pinned Wonwoo to the couch, commanded his lap and sucked the rain from his lips. You lingered, sunk into the warmth of his hands tenderly tracing your back; the same comfort of a warm summer breeze softly brushing your skin even in the chill of damp clothes. You both lingered there. Tucked away from the rest of the palace, an unspoken promise lingering in the air. You kissed him until the aching in your chest dulled.
You didn’t know what the morning would bring but you trusted Wonwoo.
And that was enough.

So it's been a hot minute, or maybe a few years, since I've been on here, but I saw this post on reddit and wanted to add my take to it. Unfortunately I couldn't find the post Realismas made in the couple of seconds I've bothered to spend on searching for it, so here's a screenshot:
I hope the fact that it didn't pop up in the search when I looked for it means they've deleted it, because this level of selfishness, entitlement and stupidity is way too much. With that logic you're never allowed to talk about anything because everything is a potential spoiler to someone. You wouldn't be allowed to talk about the Titanic sinking or Romeo and Juliet both dying or even fucking Jesus dying and rising again because some idiot out there could get spoiled.
My hot take: If you're interested in something that's not original and brand new, and you don't want to get spoiled, IT'S YOUR JOB TO NOT SEE SPOILERS!!!! Block the tags, stay off socials, whatever, but you absolutely can't tell other people that they're not allowed to talk about something just because of you.
This entitled attitude is annoyingly common. Whenever a movie comes out in one country, people from a country where the movie hasn't been released in yet get all angry at seeing spoilers from the people in the country that got the movie first. Fucking cry about it.
Recently I saw a reddit post by an American in a The Great British Bake Off sub who was annoyed that people were already discussing the new season even though it hadn't aired in America yet. It's a British show. But he was seriously outraged that people wouldn't wait until the season was out in every. single. country. Just to be clear, the posts he was talking about were all labeled as spoilers, very easy to avoid.
I was always an entire year behind on GoT because I had to wait that long for each episode to be dubbed so I could watch it with my family who don't speak English. And guess what, I didn't get spoiled! Because I'm responsible for what I see on the internet. I didn't stupidly walk right into a discussion about the series and get spoiled and then complain about how everyone should've waited to talk about it until the show was completely dubbed in every language.
Yes, just because something came out a long time ago doesn't mean everyone's seen it, but it also doesn't mean nobody is allowed to talk about it. You're responsible for not getting spoiled. It's your job to censor your online experience depending on what you want and don't want to see. Stop whining about how everyone else should do it for you and, for once in your miserable life, be responsible for own shit.
If you're allergic to nuts and ignore the allergy warning about containing nuts on a food item, you don't get to be mad at the person who gave it to you or demand that nobody sell food containing nuts anymore. Stop looking at posts about a piece of media that you don't want spoiled. That's in your control. But you can't control what other people are talking about, so stfu and cope with it.

huh...
Recently I was researching Malleus in preparation to write some things for my "10 years later" blog event. And you know what I noticed?
MALLEUS SEEMS TO HAVE LIKE NO CLEARLY STATED POLICY POSITIONS WHATSOEVER 💀 Across 4+ years of content (voice lines, vignettes, events, main story, etc.), Malleus does not really indicate how he plans to rule once he ascends to the throne. I keep thinking I missed something and go back to comb over everything, but I swear to you that it was pretty threadbare. The closest examples I could find were him being familiar with the concept of noblesse oblige (those of higher status have a duty to aid the weak), thinking it prudent to maintain friendly relationships with representatives of foreign lands, and going along with various traditions and ceremonies. I guess you can also throw in Malleus saying he was told by his grandma that the Draconias are meant to use their powers to protect the smiles of their people? But there's nothing concrete, like how exactly Malleus would achieve his goals once in power or what his specific goals are. (This is not counting fan speculation, such as him potentially eliminating the current senate due to how they treated Lilia so callously.)
Malleus will often talk about how the things he's experiencing are different than what he knows of back home. Malleus will talk about how others wait on him (his birthday is a national holiday, he has private chefs and tutors, etc.). But he doesn't talk about how he would rule. That's like... so wild to me considering that he's the crown prince of Briar Valley. I would have expected at least one or two dedicated voice lines about such a BIG for Malleus, especially with how often he speaks about himself being a royal and being groomed for the position of future ruler of his nation. Malleus sometimes shares about his grandmother, who is the current ruler, but again never specifies what her ruling style is like or what her policies are like. It's also strange to me that Sebek, Silver, and Lilia also never speak about Malleus's positions on anything. The best we get is Lilia trying to encourage Malleus to get out of his comfort zone more and to make the most of his time to learn about his non-fae peers. That doesn't speak to any of his current thoughts though, only what Lilia hopes will enhance Malleus's understanding now and perhaps inform his decisions in the future. We're mostly left to assume how Briar Valley's political landscape works--but even then, there's not much to make of it, besides being aware of the senate, a reliance on magic, and the general adversity to humans and technology.
Compare this to Leona, the other prince of the cast (not counting Silver, since he learns of his prince heritage very late into the main story and may not even feasibly have a country or people to his name anymore). Leona is the second prince of Sunset Savanna, meaning he's not even expected to become king someday--yet we consistently hear what his thoughts on policies and political planning are. He comments that he worries for his country's future due to how lax, kind-hearted, and extravagant his older brother and acting king Falena is. On top of that, Leona's own views on what would most benefit his country are explicitly laid out. He doesn't care much for stuffy traditions or living in harmony with nature (a value many of his countrymen have); he prioritizes progress and thinks proactively about it. Even on his own birthday, Leona talks about how the gift he received from Falena could be better served as a gift to a neighboring country to bolster the relationship between their nations. The mining and energy internship he chooses in book 7 is also geared towards making sustainable advancements back home (presumably to make use of his country’s natural resources while minimizing damage to the land). We get a very clear sense of how Leona would go about improving his country, even if not from the position of king and even if his ideas wouldn’t be received well by his people or by the land. (If this topic interests you, then please check out this post, where I discuss Leona vs Falena's priorities and ruling styles.)
So what's up with Malleus, an actual king-to-be, not talking about politics at all????? Is it maybe just something Malleus is not thinking about (it's possible that he could become king much later in life, since he’s not considered an “adult” until 1000 years old)? Is he maybe focusing on his current school experience? Or is it that he just... keeps the plans to himself since they aren't immediately relevant? Or is it that he feels he doesn't need to implement many changes once he does become king (since he seems to already be accustomed to his grandmother's way of ruling), so there's no need for him to consider it now? (Briar Valley itself and Malleus are particularly old-fashioned and appear to have issues adapting or changing with the times.) Is it that Malleus secretly dreads his ascension because it means he can no longer go back to his carefree school days? Maybe it's just the Twst devs intentionally keeping Briar Valley vague for meta reasons/to maintain Diasomnia's mystique??? It could be any combination of reasons.
I guess I'm a little frustrated myself at this realization because a personal gripe I have with Malleus is how he's treated and talked about like he's a great leader (especially by Diasomnia; *stares at Sebek shouting and Lilia's book 2 speech*), but we never get real instances of him acting like that great leader he supposedly is. It feels like lip service (think about how often Diasomnia and the general cast hypes him up) without him being able to back it up. When has Malleus led anyone in a serious group effort? How does he intend to lead in the future? I feel like it's mostly him wandering off to do his own thing or to clear the challenge with his OP-ness. But if Twst is really going to sell us on Malleus being a "great leader", then he should be given more chances to be one. It's such a wasted opportunity that we don't get to know more about this. The only instance I can think of (off the top of my head) where Malleus "leads" is GloMasq, and even then I don't know if I would count it??? Because Malleus isn't really leading the group so much as he is tagging along with them because there's safety in numbers given the situation. Everyone else throws themselves out there to protect him and the other event SSRs... and the way Malleus acts kind of implies he would march up that tower and try to decimate Rollo with or without anyone's help if he could. That doesn't really read to me as him taking charge, even if he's technically going to these great lengths to protect his country, which primarily relies on magic (ie their way of life would be destroyed if Rollo's plan succeeds). Maybe I'm missing something though??? If you can think of any examples of Malleus being a leader and/or times when he mentions how he'd rule Briar Valley, let me know. it's very possible that I have overlooked an example, given the extensive amount of content out at the moment. Sharing general thoughts on this topic is also fine.

Escape Plans
Pairing: Simon 'Ghost' Riley X Reader
Summary: Ghost does all he can to stop you from leaving.
Warnings: Angst, Fluff, Language,
Word Count: 1.6K
A/n: for @daugherofneptune because yeahhhh sorryy but give your dog another boop for me
~*~
Simon manages to break his personal record with bladder-holding, but eventually, he leaves his quarters to deal with his needs.
For a while he was tempted to re-purpose the garbage can beside his desk, but eventually decided that would probably be a little too messy.
So, after a few more minutes of careful deliberation, he lets you know his plans to leave, then exits his quarters.
The sound of the door closing is all you need to hear to yank the bathroom door open, rushing into the room and quickly getting dressed.
Your fingers tremble as you start executing your plan.
You only have a few minutes before he gets back, and you still need to leave his quarters without being seen.
As quickly as you can, you pile on a few of his heavier sweaters and some extra socks, then shove two pairs of pants on your legs.
An extra balaclava is tucked safely into your pocket, and then you're turning to the door ready to make good your escape.
Unfortunately, your plans are thwarted by the door opening.
Your heart jumps into your throat and your eyes widen when they meet Simon's.
He pauses for a moment, a brow raising.
"Going out?" He asks.
You frown up at him, trying to step around him only for him to mirror you.
"Going," you try, stepping the other way only for him to do the same.
"I see that. Where?"
You huff out an angry breath and glare up at him.
"Anywhere. Any place that is not here. That will be better."
He doesn't say anything, just stares at you.
"I... I go back to city. Safer there."
Simon scoffs and shakes his head, "you don't really believe that, do you?"
Your glare hardens.
"I stay in city for long time and I survive. I don't get hurt. I stay with you for weeks... get hurt many times."
He sighs, dropping his gaze for a moment then reaching toward you, his heart hurting when you step just out of his reach.
"Mouse, I know. And I'm sorry. It won't happen again-"
"No! I don't want to stay. Please."
If his heart hurt before, it's absolutely shattered now.
"It won't be much longer now. Can you hold out for just a little bit? Please."
You cross your arms over your chest and glare at the ground as tears well up in your eyes.
"Why? So that next time you go they can find me again? Hurt me again?"
"That won't happen," he says darkly, "they know, all of them, that nothing comes between you and me."
It's true.
Matthew's screams could be heard even from how far in the forest Ghost had taken him.
When he returned to base with lighter shoulders and blood splattered on his face, nobody even glanced at him for fear of being next.
Simon cups your jaw and the side of your neck with one hand and uses the other hand to push your hair aside.
"M'not gonna lose you, Mouse. Not when 've only just found you."
Your bottom lip starts to wobble and you pull your eyes from his.
"Look at me."
After a few heartbeats, you reluctantly bring your gaze back to his.
Gently, he takes your hand and puts it on his chest.
"This. You feel this in here?" He asks.
You don't answer right away.
No, instead you wait until you feel the rhythmic thumping before you nod.
"That belongs to you, got it?"
You nod at him.
"And you? You belong to me. And you must be outta your mind if you think m'gonna let what's mine walk out like that."
His words make your belly flip and you sigh, leaning your face into his hand.
"I don't like it here," you whisper.
"I know, Mouse. But soon I'll take you away from here. You won't have to worry about any of this ever again, I swear."
You tug your head back a bit and look up at him.
"Where will we go?"
He shrugs, tugging you into a hug and stepping further into the room.
"Anywhere you want. The city, the country, the ocean, the mountains. Wherever you want."
You're quiet for a good few moments before finally snuggling closer to him.
"Fine. But I don't leave."
"Good." That's exactly what he wants.
"No. This room. I don't leave."
Oh. Not what he really wants.
"You're gonna stay in this room for the next several weeks? Mouse, these walls are gonna get borin' to look at."
You slowly pull back to look up at him, and he wonders what he's said to deserve such a bitch-face.
"I live in cage before here. Walls will be fine."
He has no rebuttal.
"Well, I can bring you somethin'. Anythin' to make your stay better... more comfortable. Anythin' you need or want, jus say the word and I'll get it for you."
Your brows draw together.
You don't need anything.
Seeing the look on your face, he's quick to chime in with things he thinks you may like.
"What about more sketchbooks?"
That would be nice.
Slowly you nod.
"I can bring you a tablet, too. S'you can watch movies. We don't exactly have award winners, but some classics'll keep you occupied for the next little while," he rambles.
A frown finds your lips.
"What is tablet?"
Simon chuckles softly, kissing the top of your head tenderly.
"Oh, you're gonna love it. Can get ya almost anything with the touch of a button."
True to his word, he gets you set up with a tablet and several new sketchbooks, and spends a good portion of the afternoon showing you how to work the tablet.
"You'll have restricted access, but you know where to go if you have questions, and where to go if you want to watch movies. If you want anything else, you tell me. Okay?"
You don't say anything, only nod.
The corners of his mouth drop the tiniest bit when he notices the way you're avoiding his eyes once again.
"Mouse... you know that... that I put you down there because I had to. It was the only way for them to believe me. You know that I would never put you through that if there was any other choice, right?"
You nod again, sniffling and turning away from him the tiniest bit.
You know it's not his fault. You know that. You know that if there had been any other way for him to convince his team that you were innocent, he would've done it.
That doesn't change the fact that it was his face behind those bars. His hands that locked the door.
"Look at me. Please."
You flutter your eyes up to his, not bothering to mask the sadness you feel.
"When you go... lock door."
He's a little surprised by your words but nods his understanding.
"I will."
Though it goes directly against the rules, he swapped his door handle with the one on Soap's bathroom door. Prick can earn his privacy back.
Now, there's one added measure between you and the men on base. He wishes it wasn't necessary, but even he can only defend his men for so long.
"I'll lock the door and you open it to no one but me."
"You will bring key."
He blinks a few times before nodding once more.
"I will bring a key. That way you don't have to worry. Only person coming in and out of here will be me."
You look down again, fingers tapping the tablet gently as anxiety eats a hole in your stomach.
Simon's moving before he understands what he's doing, carefully taking off the chain around his neck.
"Here. I want you to have this."
You glance over to him, brows drawing together when he holds his dog tags out to you.
"You'll always have a piece of me. N'you know if you're with me nothin's gonna happen to you."
Though you don't fully understand the meaning of his words, the weight of them is not lost on you. You can feel the importance, the significance.
And so you let him carefully put them on you.
His eyes are focused on where they rest on your chest, on top of your heart.
Carefully, he cups your cheek and slides his thumb over your soft skin.
"You've no idea what you mean to me, Mouse. No idea. Almost wish you coulda been there to see what happened to that prick for what he did."
He means it when he says that, too.
He wishes you could've been there to see exactly what he did to him. Wishes you could've heard his apologies, his pathetic attempts at pleading for his life.
But the last thing he wants is for you to be scared of him.
"What... what did you do?" You ask, looking at him nervously.
His thumb drags over your bottom lip and he sighs.
"A lot. A lot of bad... horrible things. Hurt him real bad. And then I let him die. 'Cause that's what happens to people who hurt you. And I'll never forgive myself for being one of them."
You nod slowly, pulling your bottom lip between your teeth then sighing gently.
"How long until we go home?" You ask after another moment, slowly bringing your hand up to his chest.
"A few weeks. Not much longer, and then it'll be jus' you and me."
Slowly, you nod.
You can do a few more weeks.
A few more weeks, then you start your new life in your new home with your Ghost.
With Simon.
Your Simon.

stray kids as tropes with plot.
୨୧ 𖹭⠀⁺ skz x afab!reader.
GENRE & WARNING/S: fluff?? romance, crimes, allusions to sex, kidnapping, yandere!minho, religious themes, kissing, profanity, mentions of weapons, tropes are listed below, and let me know if i missed one (separate fiction from reality).
WORD COUNT: 1.9k
୨୧ 𖹭⠀⁺ most of these are the plots of my fics that will never see the light of day and some are inspired by the things i read. don’t forget to reblog and leave a feedback.
⠀𔘓 chan ー swat officer and mafia boss’s daughter. he was assigned as the head of capturing the infamous mafia boss in the country who does money laundering and kidnapping but the target was so good in hiding. his team heard that there would be someone from the mafia group who would arrive that evening with a large sum of money and trade it for illegal items. after excruciating an ambush, the person of interest got away. you met at a pub one rainy evening after he finished his job, he was frustrated. he was mainly there to join some friends and not drink until you entered the premises in that black dress. chan was keen when it comes to women and you are exactly his type. shared a few drinks by the counter and there was no small talk. you knew him after the ambush a few hours ago and yet he doesn’t have any idea who you were. he slept with you a few timesーeventually fell in love with each other and yet he noticed something strange was going on about you every time he mentioned the events in his job not until he got you spied on in secret by one of his intelligence (it was just between him and the intel) and the news about you being involved in money laundering broke out. he was forced to choose, you or his job.
⠀𔘓 lee know ー psycho and doctor (yandere). the man had you in a chokehold the moment you were assigned to him at the hospital. he was sent for parole to be examined and yet you were held hostage. it was like a gun was pointed at your head to keep your mouth shut on his whereabouts. he lets you keep your job and act like you weren’t hiding him somewhere deep in the city even if the authorities have interrogated you many times. you were scared and yet he made you submissive in your household, a personal therapist at its finest, at least, you think was crazy that led you to keep a gun inside your drawer in your clinic. he becomes possessive and kills the ones who get close to you even if it is someone he shouldn’t be jealous of. to him, they were just like bowling pins that he hits one by one until the last one falls. he kisses you like a starved man as if he didn’t get to taste your lips for years, he worships you in bed like a loyal follower, he loves the sound of his name coming out of your mouth and humiliates you when you’re on your knees to serve him. your professional side vanishes to the thin air when his hands are all over your body. you should be scared and yet there you are, like a dog who obeys their owner in one command and you know you’ll never going to escape anytime soon.
⠀𔘓 changbin ー ceo and secretary. it is a privilege to be hired as the secretary of the infamous heir of the seo family to cater to their family business and it is indeed hard to work for him during the first five years. meetings, orders, business trips, and paperworks here and there, you didn’t have much choice but to oblige. you know the pay is much higher than the rest of the jobs being offered to you and even if you wanted to quit, changbin doesn’t want to let you go. you are known to be so good at your job. so good that you tend to be competitive and would put changbin’s emotions first before everyone else. it’s like serving royalty who has his ass buried in his seat just to put a solution to everything. he is also the reason why you couldn’t get a life outside apart from coming to work, go home, sleep, eat, and repeat routine. unfortunately, he got pressured to seek a wife at a family dinner one evening and was put into deep thought. he talked to you a few days later and offered something you least expected; if you’re still single at the age of thirty, you should marry each other. so how is it going to be?
⠀𔘓 hyunjin ー bodyguard and politician’s daughter (forbidden love). he’s supposed to be just a bodyguard who would take a bullet for you as you were known as the only daughter of a high-profile politician in the country. hyunjin was only there to make sure you were safe every time even if you were at home. but what if it was becoming something more? how could he when it’s supposed to be a job? a gentleman who would always put you first, he would volunteer to be your plus one at an event you’re exclusively invited to, keeps you close to him, has a keen eye around just in case danger peeks in while drinking his beer on the side when you are busy talking with the other guests, knows you too well and can determine how to handle you even in your most difficult situation. your father can see the way you look at him, a reckless emotion at such. he disapproves of your feelings towards the man he hired to protect you. a contract is sealed as it is and yet your love doesn’t define what was written on a piece of paper. he kissed and made love with you in the car that night as a goodbye knowing your father was going to fire him but you didn’t want him to leave. and so you made a decision; you ran away with him and never to be seen again.
⠀𔘓 han ー bonnie and clyde (friends to lovers). started off as childhood friends who were both neglected by their parents and were sent to the orphanage, you and han strived to live and do things together without the help from others. juggling academics and adult life after being sent away at the age of eighteen, you were tied to each other and promised to never leave. you were both so close that you could even know everything about each other just by the sound and smell. apparently, han became a delinquent as life got harder and you got involved in his crimes. “ride or die,” they say. you couldn’t ask anything more but to be around han and as a promise, you never once say no to him. you ran away with a car he stole from a dumb neighbor and headed somewhere far. growing up, you learned how to fend yourselves in this harsh life and tainted those innocent hands black as the crimes grew with you. han was dependent on you and a genius at work. because of him, you always have a high chance of getting away while you are in charge of deceiving people in just one act. your faces were plastered everywhere with a ransom and yet it wasn’t that easy to be caught. a gun filled with bullets, a stolen car, and a bag full of money in the backseatーthe night doesn’t sleep for you and him while holding hands.
⠀𔘓 felix ー fallen angel and human. was banished from heaven and sent down to earth as punishment for his sins. his wings were hidden and only his true love would ever see them. a lonely angel who was forced to blend with humans and live in an old shabby apartment with a senior college student (you) has been a tough one. you find him weird and innocent as if it’s like a sin to corrupt him yet he thinks he is the other way around. he wasn’t aware that you could see a huge pair of wings on his back, a mixture of black and white with gold clouds of dust floating around it and you never told him. you heard stories about his kind beforeーthey’re known to be reckless, miserable, and evil. tons of stories were shared yet none of it were believed to be true before he existed. unbeknownst to your knowledge, he would notice the way you look at him. those curious eyes as you hold your lips to speak. you didn’t know what caused him to come down here and yet, you wanted to. still, you were too afraid of the aftermath if you confessed. and as those eyes of yours were staring at him for so long until you felt his lips on yours. with the kiss he lets you take a peak to his past the moment you close your eyes. is he really a sinner?
⠀𔘓 seungmin ー lawyer and prosecutor (rivals to lovers). started as rivals ever since in law school and were always in each other’s necks at court. you curse his name every after the trial you were put together. he enjoys getting into your head and messes will all the proclaimed evidence you could use to defame his client but he is too good. too good that you get crazy inside your office thinking about how to defeat him. he always has this cocky attitude and a smirk plastered on his face, ready to destroy you whenever he gets the chance which is always. your eye twitches, your blood boils, and your head hurts after getting cooked by the one and only kim seungmin. it was all fun and games to him until he decided to pay you a visit in your office during overtime and everyone was gone. you despise being around him and yet, there he wasーin front of your deskーslamming a bunch of folders on it making you stand up out of frustration. you curse at him again with that monotone voice filled with threat as you go near him and the man isn’t fazed at all. instead, he lifts you by your waist and lets you sit on your desk, crashing his lips onto yours like the desperate man he always has been ever since you were still students. you kissed him back knowing you felt the same and the hatred was just a coping mechanism for that.
⠀𔘓 i.n ー demon and reverend’s daughter (sinful love). you’ve always been a good girl who attends the chapel every sunday. a strong believer with a great influence from your father not until you met this unusual man sitting two rows behind who seems to be looking at you occasionally. he always wears a black suit, his charcoal black hair parted to show his forehead, and sometimes he wears specsーtruly a convincing gentleman as he stays neat. you heard he was new in town and no one knows where he is from nor his name. being known as timid and doesn’t talk to strangers, you approached him three sundays later. he was a good man in your eyes, a great facade that covers who he truly was, and he knows how to pretend to be good so you can get closer to him. your father doesn’t like him. he felt like jeongin was taking you away like a sway from everything that was supposed to be good and counterfeiting your beliefs every time he talked as if he knew the good and evil too well. jeongin was full of lies, he whispers to your ear to stop believing shits that the reverend has been feeding your hopes, he kisses your virgin lips with his lustful ones and touches you to show you what heaven feels like. he leaves marks on your body to name you as his and seals your soul with him as no one will ever take you, even your father.

The other day I was helping a friend (19) figure out how to set up a PayPal and he said it wasn't available, so I assumed he was getting a "not available in your country" type of error. When I looked on PayPal and it said they supported that currency, I assumed it was his ISP blocking him.
Anyway a little later we figured out that when he said "not available" he meant he couldn't find an app on the Google Play Store. "... Did you try the actual website in a browser?" He had not. It worked. He has a PayPal now. (There was also an app downloadable from the site itself.)
That's meant as kind of a Funny Story but honestly I'm...
I'm not trying to judge Kids These Days, I'm just genuinely baffled. I would think "no one taught them" but who... who really taught the average Millennial, or the older end of Gen Z? I was like 6 years old helping my grandpa figure out how to use a computer that was also new to me, and I know that experience isn't nearly universal but it also wasn't rare. And maybe-- hopefully?-- this is based on limited evidence and stereotypes. Maybe the reality isn't as bad as it looks/feels.
But so often I see people say "I don't see X" or "I don't know how to do Y" and then... leave it at that? And I'm sure planned obsolescence and lack of resilience with a lot of modern tech is at least some factor, making it harder to Fuck Around And Find Out without fear of breaking something, and of course it's a lot of things adding up, not just one clear answer.
But c'mon Zoomers. You all have so much passion. You don't have to go major in computer science, just when you run into a thing you'd like to do and don't know how, get in the habit of looking it up. Yes Google has gotten worse, but there are other search engines and Google is also still serviceable for a lot of stuff if you ignore the AI at the top. (Please ignore the AI.) And there's YouTube tutorials for almost anything now! Seek the knowledge, learn the things, fuck around and find out, and learn new and interesting ways to fuck around and find out. 🙏 You guys can become so powerful, I believe in you.
Telling young zoomers to "just switch to linux" is nuts some of these ipad kids have never even heard of a cmd.exe or BIOS you're throwing them to the wolves

Obsessed - Part 8 (Azriel x Reader)
Summary: Y/n discovers a few things and a few more are revealed.
Warnings: sex, minors please stay away.
****
Y/n was upset. Her semester was ending. The exchange programme had come to a close. Now, she’d have to leave for her internship and then go back to her university for the remainder of her studies. She’d miss her friends. She’d miss this new country.
And who knew how long Azriel was posted here in this city?
It was a coincidence that they met and they had a good few months together but Y/n really did not want to go back to a life where he was not a constant.
The idea of it didn’t sit well with her.
After her last exam today, she’d taken some time for her friends here. On her way back to the apartment, she’d started feeling upset but then she wore a smile and rang Azriel’s doorbell.
He’d opened the door, took one look at her, and fucked her wildly like he wanted to reinforce something. And then, they made love to each other with Y/n slowly riding him.
Y/n let herself rise and fall, eyes closed. Her hands were on his chest, tattooed and perfect for her. His large hands nearly covered all of her ass.
Fuck.
He was such a large man and the most convincing evidence of it was deep inside her, thick and throbbing as she rode him at her own pace.
She could feel the air on her body. Her nipples were already hard and were even more sensitive after Azriel had sucked on them and smeared his saliva, and then left them exposed.
Her breasts ached and all she wanted was his large hands to pinch and grab them roughly as if he selfishly owned her.
His hands. Gods, they were so perfect.
The tattoos on his fingers was an arousing sight.
Especially after she’d once seen herself suck them.
The way those hands groped every part of her and were still on her ass.
She was in bed, tired after exams and sex. Azriel had woken up after a nice cuddling session for a meeting. It was an urgent one and he’d promised to return soon but Y/n was not going to pester him even if he didn’t.
The man had a job. That too, at Umbra got fuck’s sake. That was an empire on its own managed by some young fellow Y/n hadn’t bothered about since that was not her field.
Sex with Azriel always made her sleepy and she always woke up feeling refreshed.
Her eyes were closed. The furry blanket was so cosy and she was just there.
Her phone rang and interrupted her peace.
Y/n groaned in frustration. She grabbed it and softened when she saw Azriel’s name. She swiped on the screen and accepted the call. “Hey.”
“Hello, sweetheart. I hope I wasn’t disturbing you.”
“No, no. Tell me.” She wouldn’t tell him that she wanted to sleep even more.
“Could you bring me my iPad? It’s on the nightstand.” Y/n rose and looked around for the device.
“Where. . Got it.” She removed herself from the sheets, ended the call, took the iPad, and was about to walk out of the room when a message popped up.
Miss Y/n’s mother has sent a parcel to the apartment she shared with Nesta Archeron. We believe her mother has no knowledge of her current whereabouts and her exchange program.
What?
Y/n tapped on the notification and the chat opened. It was a group chat with Azriel and a bunch of people. She scrolled and read the messages.
Other members of the group chat were constantly updating on her location and activities while Azriel had sent the occasional ‘okay’.
She also found photographs of her taken from her outings with friends. Taken from a distance and clearly not with her consent.
The more she saw, the more she wanted to smash her head against something.
Why?
Why did Azriel have her followed?
He’d always known where she was, at what time, who she was with. She hadn’t bothered hiding much from him.
Then why was this. . ?
Y/n walked over to the room with the iPad, the group chat open on it.
She saw Azriel’s eyes widen as she entered the room. She placed the iPad on his table. “What’s this?”
He looked at the chat quietly and then looked up at her.
Y/n felt hot with fury coursing through every part of her. And yet, for some strange reason, she felt cold.
It wasn’t until Azriel walked over and wrapped a jacket around her that she realised that she hadn’t dressed after leaving bed.
She’d been naked and angry.
“I’ve had you followed, Y/n.”
And she couldn’t control it.
She was barely restraining herself until then but to hear him say that he had her followed broke the dam.
“Why? Didn’t you trust me enough to go out and not cheat on you?”
This time, Azriel sounded confused. “It wasn’t because I thought you were cheating on me.”
The audacity of this man to say such a thing. He had her watched and followed and photographed and so much more.
“Scroll up, Y/n. This started the night I met you in that club before we ever spoke to each other properly.” He extended the iPad to her.
She hesitantly took it and scrolled up furiously. When she reached the first message, she saw the date the group had been created. Feyre’s birthday. There was a photo of her dancing in that club with Nesta.
Somebody had sent a few documents. She opened them—her CV, biodata, details of people close to her.
“You’ve known all this about me?” He silently nodded. She felt like such a fool.
Y/n couldn’t even think. She couldn’t process it like this. So she simply kept the iPad on his desk and walked away.
“Y/n. Y/n, listen to me, sweetheart.” He was following. She increased her pace and entered his room. Her clothes were on the chair and she began dressing. “Y/n, please. I only wanted to know about you.”
She looked at him and it hurt.
It hurt to know that this man didn’t trust her.
Didn’t trust time.
Didn’t trust their connection.
“I would’ve told you everything with time.” She wanted to cry. “Whenever I was ready to revisit my past and speak about it, I would’ve told you. About my childhood. My ex. My mother.”
“I only wanted to know about you.” He was pleading but she was so tired.
“You did not trust that our relationship would reach to the point where I would ever confide in you. You thought yourself entitled to find everything about me. .” She choked back a sob. Azriel moved to hold her but she took a step behind and he halted.
“You did not trust me.” It was a whisper and it broke everything. “And therefore, you violated my privacy.”
“I did not get that information because I didn’t trust you.” Azriel moved. When he reached her, he kneeled.
“I was impatient. I wanted to know everything about you immediately. I’m desperate for anything you’ll give me. You heart, your body—I cannot have them unless you give them to me. But information—that I can take from any place. And I’ll take any scrap of it you leave behind.”
What was this feeling? She was being broken but also healed at the same time. And even then, everything hurt.
“And as for being followed, I had to know that you were safe.” He was still kneeling. The world was blurry.
Y/n was still cold as she hadn't dressed completely.
She didn’t know anymore.
She didn’t want him to know that she had a troubled past at least until she could help it.
She knew it would’ve come out soon but this soon? It wasn’t at her own pace.
What was she supposed to do?
Should she explain it to Azriel?
Should she be angry at him?
Should she end this relationship?
It was dizzying now. Her breathing was becoming difficult.
She could hear her sniffles, Azriel calling her name. “. . breathe, sweetheart. Inhale. . . Exhale. . .”
He kept telling her to inhale and exhale until she could focus on those words and force her breathing into a pattern.
She was sitting now. Azriel was wiping her nose with something. A blanket was draped over her. He was right there, holding her hand.
Her eyes fluttered close and Y/n faded into the dark.
****
Whispers.
Somebody was talking.
Somebody was responding.
It ached.
Something more than her body ached.
“. . rest and she’ll be. . medicines. . . care.”
Y/n faded away again.
****
Y/n was warm. In a room. It was dark. And a hand held her own.
Azriel was right there, sitting on the floor, one hand holding hers and the other arm folded on the bed to rest his head.
He must’ve fallen asleep.
She tried to rise and felt too weak. But the shuffling of the blankets was enough to wake him up.
“How are you feeling?” His deep voice asked.
“Fine.” She didn’t want to say anything more. Absolutely nothing.
She’d sweat a lot. The greasy feeling of it remained on her body. “You have a fever.”
Oh.
“Have some medicine.” And he rose to leave her side, to get a strip of tablets and water from the nightstand but she did not let go of his hand in the first instance.
“Y/n.” And then she immediately let go and looked away. What was she supposed to do?
Was their bond supposed to be overlooked by this?
Could it be so easily sidelined?
She saw his hand with the medicine come in her line of sight. “Medicine.”
His voice was only deep whispers ever since she woke up. As if he was afraid his normal pitch would shatter something.
Y/n quietly took the medicine and water and consumed them. Azriel was there to take the glass away from her and he kneeled by the bedside.
“You had a panic attack and then you fainted.”
“And the fever?”
“You came to me with the iPad unclothed, leaving your body exposed to the cold. And you didn’t fully dress when you came to the bedroom.” And she was now wearing one of his sweatshirts which was too big for her.
Y/n could tell that he was being careful with his choice of words.
“I’m so sorry, Y/n.” He clutched her hand as though in prayer. “It’s my fault you had a panic attack.”
Damn straight.
Was there any point?
“I need to go.” She knew she sounded weak and pathetic and even if she did go back to her apartment, there was no way she’d be able to take care of herself.
“Please. Rest here until you recover. I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
“Don’t you understand?” Oh gods, she was going to sob any moment now. Or scream. “If I stay here, even for a single second, I will not get any clarity.”
“As you wish.” Azriel retreated to a distance. Y/n slowly stood up under his gaze.
She remembered that she had only worn her panties and jeans when Azriel had followed her to apologise. So she removed his sweatshirt he had dressed her in.
When the sweatshirt was over her head, leaving her bare, Y/n saw that Azriel had turned away, as if he knew his permit to see her naked had been revoked.
She wore her own clothes and looked around. She grabbed her phone and walked towards the door where he stood with his back towards her.
Upon hearing her footsteps, he moved away, clearing the way for her. Once she began walking, she heard him follow her. She looked behind and saw his imposing figure behind her.
He was in pain.
So much pain.
She could see it.
But so was she.
And Y/n had had enough of ignoring her own pain for others.
But Azriel standing there and following her from behind was a realisation.
That he’d always be there. Behind her if not beside her.
“Call me.” He suddenly said. “If you need anything—medicines, food, anything—just call.”
She wanted to kiss him. So she turned away and left his apartment.
Y/n climbed into her bed, her fluffy blanket, and fell asleep without changing her clothes.
****
Azriel had a mission.
Scratch that, he had two missions.
One, Y/n’s recovery.
Two, Y/n’s forgiveness.
He honestly didn’t understand where she’d gotten the idea that he had her followed to monitor her in case she cheated.
If she did cheat on him, it would be the fault of the fuckwit who thought he could drive a wedge between them.
Azriel would simply dispose of any such menaces and Y/n wouldn’t even know anything.
He sighed.
Her not knowing had not turned out well for him.
He’d flown in his personal doctor in the middle of the night. And while she’d been resting in his apartment, he’d gotten a doctor in the city to check on her.
His doctor was situated in one of the apartments, ready at a moment’s notice.
Azriel kept stock of medicines and food ingredients, just in case she wanted something.
And he waited like a dutiful husband.
And while he waited, he googled up on how he could earn her forgiveness.
The bugs in her apartment began transmitting her sound. She was crying and talking. He heard the name Nesta. And more crying.
She was worried about how this would pan out.
How she’d been an excellent fool by falling for him.
Wait.
Y/n had fallen for him?
Oh.
He shouldn’t be happy considering what happened but he couldn’t help it.
And it was then that Azriel decided that he should probably get rid of those bugs before she saw one or saw something else on his iPad.
He wasn’t going to hide the iPad.
He didn’t like hiding things from Y/n but there were certain things he simply hoped she’d never find.
It was poor thinking but what else could he do?
He was obsessed and his morals clashed and crashed far too often for it to make sense.
As as for how to earn her forgiveness, Y/n’s favourite books had a lot of fictional men grovelling after fucking up.
He needed to analyse everything.
What exactly was she hurt about.
What could he do to stop her hurt?
How to make amends.
How to convince her that he was not a complete piece of shit and was worth some consideration of forgiveness.
Her safety had been an important concern.
If Y/n knew the number of people that had started following her while she went out on her own.
The number of people that had been beaten up so that she could roam around outside without anything to fear.
The number of phone numbers he’d looked into after any call that made her uncomfortable. He had them all deactivated.
No.
Her safety was an important matter that needed his attention.
It was not a bargaining chip to win an argument or to prove a point.
It was simply his duty.
But how was he going to convince her that he hadn’t worried about her cheating?
That he was only endlessly and ravenously curious about her ever since he first saw her?
Azriel sighed. He needed advice. He picked up his phone and called the one person he trusted enough with such a matter. When the call was answered, he began. “Hello, mum.”

the beginnings of rafe and high school gf's relationship
rafe and high school gf reader both attended kildare academy together. they were in the same year and shared a few classes, but had vaguely known each other for years (like most of the kooks on the island)
high school gf's family were nowhere near as rich as the cameron's (which later contributes to them trying to get into the good graces of ward after charlie is born) though they were still well off
they both first started to see each other in a romantic way unexpectedly during their junior year at the academy
topper held a party and high school gf attended with her friends, only for rafe - high on coke- to stumble into her harshly. she scraped her knees badly, but instead of looking after herself, she offered to help rafe
the taller man had hit his head and had a cut on his brow that was dripping blood into his eye, so she took him to the bathroom to clean him up, despite his protests. rafe hadn't been shown a lot of kindness in his life, and even through his coke haze, he noted it to memory. he felt cared for and for him, that's something he couldn’t help but be attracted to
the next week at the kook academy, rafe noticesd the red scrapes on her knees and to everyone's surprise, went up to high school gf and gave her his version of an apology. he usually wouldn't care but he felt bad knowing how kind she was to him after,
"that wasn't, like, super cool of me and you know... your knees....yeah"
she stared at him blankly for a moment before simply replying,
"just take care of yourself, rafe"
he was instantly obsessed. like say what you want, but rafe cameron is 100% the trope of 'she doesn't want me and that's hot'
he started to stick to her, always waiting around for her after class, and if they had the class together, he was paying the shmuck who sits next to her to take his seat
topper and kelce teased him about his schoolgirl crush, and though he told them that he just wanted to hook up with her, he secretly liked her
he wasn’t a romantic guy (he's like 16-17 at this time) and his only idea to get her to date him was to literally just be so annoying she agreed
and fortunately for him, it eventually worked after the bonfire incident (helps that he's hot too)
rafe had spent the past month bugging her when everyone decided to go to one of the bonfires. a drunk rafe started a fight with a pogue, and while he delivered most of the punches, a few landed on his face too. high school gf just sighed and took him back to her car. she was caring for him again, checking the split lip he managed to gain, when rafe just couldn’t hold back anymore
rafe who kissed her so passionately that she couldn’t help but kiss back, the pair lost in the moment until they were pulling away gasping for air
"good, huh?" rafe teased, much to her annoyance, "are you gonna let me take you out now?"
high school gf could only nod, unable to hide her grin anymore
from then on, the pair were inseparable. whenever rafe fought with his dad he spent the night in high school gf's bed, and when she argued with her mother, she went to tannyhill to vent to rafe
even in the early stages of their relationship they bickered. the main topic was always the drugs, but sometimes it was rafe being too flirty to other girls, or blowing her off to hang out with topper and kelce
rafe was the first person high school gf had sex with
high school gf was the first person rafe cried to
high school gf became part of the trio that is rafe, kelce and topper, always tagging along to their bro dates at the country club or the bar. they got used to her being there, but that doesn't mean they didn’t tease her too
rafe and high school gf were known as the it couple of the obx, both too attractive for their own good and rich to match, but people also knew that secretly high school gf was too good for rafe
ward and rose liked her for rafe as she mellows him out and cares for him
her parents hated him, but loved the cameron family name and influence and so put up with him
high school gf having to coddle rafe when he was grumbling about his dad and it's where he discovered his love of being held in her arms, her fingers running through his hair as she soothed him
the pair were affectionate - rafe almost indecently so, high school gf much less. rafe was always trying to kiss her or squeeze her ass, and high school gf got very used to swatting his hand away or stepping aside altogether
the couple argued a lot - at first it was just small things, and then it happened a lot, until they argued every week and had periods of silent treatment
often it was related to rafe’s relationship with his dad, or how high school gf wouldn’t support rafe’s newest money-making scheme
other times it was rafe accusing high school gf of wanting to leave him when she talked about going to college
now you’ve read about rafe and high school gf in the bedroom later on in their relationship, but what about how they started…
the sex was kinda uncoordinated and clumsy at first as the pair learnt what they like and don’t like, and discovered each others bodies, but once they got past that stage they were unstoppable
definitely sneaky sex in rafe’s bedroom with his family downstairs
sex in rafe’s car before he crashed it and his dad refused to buy him another one
they also tried sex on the beach once but weren’t fans (too messy)
both ended up getting a little too tipsy at parties as well, leading them to sneak off upstairs into one of the bedrooms and have sex, but it was usually sloppy and they tended to forget a condom (one of those nights is how charlie was made…)
for a young couple, rafe and high school gf were very much in love despite all their problems, and they couldn’t imagine a future without the other in it

Holy shit this is exactly what I'm feeling with right the fuck now
Y'all in order countries. This is America's Healthcare System which should really be called the Healthcare Industry at this point because they make money while we (the poor on state insurance) get sicker and sicker and die cause there's just not enough clinics and things that accept state insurance.
It's all by design. And now trump plans to get rid of most if not all public programs and state programs that were created to help those in need and those whom are disabled or otherwise ill so soon the largest socioeconomic class (not the highest) will be the majority of the US. Which is as stated. Mostly poor and impoverished.
They are literally killing us all off and don't seem to care who knows. I don't trust the government, I don't trust the politicians. They literally call themselves career politicians. They don't actually care about us except how each party can use us to further their causes and take their aggressions.
This isn't a free county.
I'm not sure it ever was, really.
Except for those in power and those who are rich. (Which includes the private pay, no state insurance accepted, doctors. The ones who took an oath to take care of patients and make them the priorities. Yeah them. Doctor's like that only exist on the big and small screens. In books.
Basically... It's fiction when it comes to a large number of doctors. (Though there are many doctors who are good and do listen even though they are over worked by cases and things like that but we have to sift through all the clinics to find one. It can be done though. My doctor is amazing and she's so kind and actually listens and we discuss rather than I get told and don't get to have a speak except for a few utterances before I'm cut off by the next question.)
Money. Greed. Money. Greed.
That's what was hidden behind their 'Freedom'.
But it's always been about money. Just watch Hamilton on Disney+.
Rich people except in very rare instances literally must have been willing to step on the backs of others to get as rich as they are.
Doesn't sound much like freedom and equality to me. (And I don't exist in the eyes of trump.)
Sending epic classy vibes and setting the intention that your week/end is absolutely fabulous and the universe gives you everything you need to thrive. So mote it be.)
*doctor voice* hmmmm…..have you tried this revolutionary method called painmaxxxing? it is where you do not bother me and adjust to being in agony all the time and we do nothing to resolve the root cause or treat the symptoms. you don’t wish to try painmaxxxing? you’re being non-compliant with the treatment plan I have just provided you?
