simon pining for his fwb, getting all jealous when he finds you grinding on someone else in the dance floor, so much so that he pulls you away.
you yell out his name as he tugs you out, calling out for him to stop, but simon is a quiet wall, not really listening. not really caring.
what does make him pause is the vitriol in your words, hushed, and exhausted â âiâm not your anything, simon.â
âŠright. thatâs right.
heâs just got to show you, then, that he is more than what you think he could be. show you, then, what youâre missing out.
(callused fingers grip your waist, holding, using as leverage. his scarred lips are tugged in a snarl, grunting, rumbling.
his desire is so much bigger than himself.
uncontainable. uncontrollable.
and yet, itâs the quiet sob that wrenches itself out of his throat that makes your stomach flutter. that makes you feel the honest curl of pleasure pooling in the base of your spine.
âplease,â he whispers, folding before you, bowing until his trembling breath is tickling the rise of your chest. âplease.â
your fingers twitch, hesitating, then youâre bringing your hand up to curl them on the base of his hair.
âi know,â you reply, mind a numb press, suspended underneath the tides of your ecstasy. âiâve got you, si.â)
#idk what this is but the pining does NOT end. nothing actually gets resolved#you leave the next morning anyway. trudging out quietly so you dont wake him up as he slumbers#and when he does wake up he will have to live with the fact that you do not love him back no matter what he does#suns#simon ghost riley x reader#simon ghost riley

Adjacently, there was a recent (Oct. 2024) fun ep of Ologies where an academic candy expert discussed how much candy was once considered medicinal and how our palates have changed over time. I do recommend.
A continuation on my post about unloved foods, specifically this is my in-depth defense of root beer.
Root Beer isn't inherently gross, it's just one of those weird local flavors that's off-putting to people who didn't grow up with it. We all like different things and also we all tend to like flavors that are similar to what we grew up with. That's okay! But honestly root beer is pretty unique and, in my opinion, delicious.
One of the main complaints against root beer is that it tastes like medicine. Funnily enough, it was originally marketed as medicinal! This is true for most OG sodas actually. Pretty much as soon as carbonated water was invented, people were drinking it to soothe various ailments. A lot of the original soft drinks were actually invented by pharmacists. I just think that root beer is especially cool because the main flavor came from the root bark of sassafras, a common North American shrub. Because it's so widespread and aromatic, all parts of the sassafras plant have been used in food and medicine by many different Native American tribes throughout history and was subsequently picked up and used by European colonists. In the 1960s, some studies indicated that that safrole oil, which is produced by the plant, can cause liver damage. Whether or not this would actually remain true after it had been boiled and added to root beer is unclear, but it was really easy to replicate the flavor, so the sassafras in commercial root beer these days is artificial. Another fun fact about safrole is that it's a precursor in the synthesis of MDMA. None of this information has stopped my childhood habit of eating sassfras leaves right off the shrub whenever I walk past it on a hike. I'm like 85% sure it's safe and also mmmm yummy leafs go crunch.
Another root beer complaint is that it tastes like toothpaste. I think this is probably because another key flavor in most root beer recipes is wintergreen. I'm assuming that the people who think this are the same people who think mint chocolate chip ice cream tastes like toothpaste. I can understand and even respect that some people don't like mint and associate it only with brushing their teeth, but like. Mint is a pretty common flavor. I mean I think it's safe to say that humans have been eating mint flavored stuff for longer than toothpaste has existed... anyway!
Other common flavors in root beer (real or artificial) are caramel, vanilla, black cherry bark, sarsaparilla root, ginger, and many more! There's not one official recipe, and root beer enthusiasts often have strong opinions about different brands. Some root beer is sharper, with more strong aromatic flavors, and others are mild and creamier.
Another thing I think is cool about root beer is that it's foamier than most sodas. This was originally because sassafras is a natural surfactant (and why sassafras is also a common thickening agent in Louisiana Creole cooking.) These days, other plant starches or similar ingredients are added to keep the distinctive foam. Root beer foam > all other soft drink foams. That's why root beer floats kick more ass than like, coke floats.
If you've never had root beer before, imagine if a sweetened herbal tea was turned into a soda, because that's basically what it is. If your first response to that is a cringe, fair enough. That's why lots of people don't like it. If your first response to that is "interesting... I might actually like it, though" then I encourage you to track down a can of root beer today, hard as that might be outside the US and Canada. Next time you see an "ew, root beer tastes like medicine/tooth paste" take, know that there's a reason for that, but also the same could be said for literally any herbal or minty food/drink.
My final take on root beer is that it would be the soda of choice for gnomes. Thank you and good night.
#mmm i LOVE root beer#and minty things for that matter#...this reminds me i do in fact need to brush my teeth for the night lol#food history

I just wanna talk about the fact that the runestone became literally embeded into Jayce's skin when he accepted his mission. His destiny to save Viktor from himself became literally inseperable from his actual physical mortal shell. He was going to save Viktor no matter what. The fact that this runestone was handed to him by Viktor and it's a symbol of the love that Viktor has for him that spans literally across the multiverse - he carries that within him. The fact that when it first happens he thinks that Viktor is gone, "my partner died in this room", and we perceive it as this parasitic thing that symbolizes his obsession with destroying magic (and Viktor) when in fact, we see him later in the arcane space with Viktor and he removes it so effortlessly as if it was never any burden at all and hand it to Viktor - a physical embodiment of his love for him exactly as he is, having carried it as a part of himself for all that time. He hands it to VIktor - he shows Viktor his love, as pure and uninhibited by flaws as it is - and it almost seems like Viktor can't handle it by himself, and it literally brings him back to his true imperfect mortal self, and they hold it together, their love for each other, forever.
Also the fact that their final scene together, floating together in the arcane, mirrors the first moment they cracked hextech together and they're floating up in the air. A few people have pointed that out already but I haven't seen anyone mention the fact that while they're floating, Viktor doesn't need his cane. Viktor perceived magic as something that would free him from his mortal coil from the very beginning. It equalized them. And in the end, when they hold their love for each other together, it is clear that they were equal all along. It wasn't magic that made Jayce consider Viktor an equal it was love. Love inextricable from the confines of mortal flesh I'm fine i'm fine it's cool i'm fine..

Iâll Take Care Of You
Pairing: Lando Norris x reader
Warnings: sick Lando, smut
You weren't supposed to show up at the Las Vegas GP because you had your own business commitments, but knowing the state Lando was in, you decided to drop everything and come with him. You knew he needed you there and there wasn't a second of doubt in your mind whether or not to go with him when you saw how sick he really was.
After Brazil, Lando was not feeling well mentally. He couldn't sleep, he wouldn't eat or drink, his mood was at zero and all of this affected his immune system which resulted in him falling ill just before the Vegas GP.
Your heart ached seeing him like this because you knew there was nothing you could do except be there for him until he got through it. The only good thing about all of this was taking the pressure of being a world champion off his shoulders until next season at least.
Before the Vegas race, Lando could barely function, to be honest. His nose was blocked, his head was pounding, and he could barely hear in one ear.
As you closely followed the race in the garage, it no longer mattered to you which place he would take, you just prayed that he would finish the race safely and successfully so you can get him out of there.
So once the race was finally over, you were relieved, and so was he. When he got out of the car and took his helmet and balaclava off his head, he immediately looked for you with his eyes.
"Baby.." You looked at him sadly, approaching him and extending your arms towards him. "Are you alright?"
"Hey, love" His head fell onto your shoulder as he buried his face in your neck, pulling you closer to him. "I feel so sick" He sighed quietly and you immediately put your palm against his forehead to check his temperature.
"Lan, you're burning"
He was exhausted, so tired he could barely keep his eyes open and head up. He desperately needed to rest and all you wanted was to get out of there as soon as possible.
"Go get changed and we're going to the hotel, okay?" You tell him.
"No, I don't wanna go to the hotel, I wanna go home." He says.
"Lan, you can't get on a plane like this. You need to get some rest first and then we're gonna go home"
"No, please baby, I just wanna go to our home, please. I really need it. I know I'll feel better as soon as we get home." He whines. You sigh for a moment just looking at him as you ponder if this really is a smart decision. "Please" His eyes plead and you finally agree.
He was clinging to you the entire flight, holding his head in your lap and trying to sleep. He still had a fever so you improvised compresses to put over his forehead.
Lando wasn't sick often, but once in a while when he caught a cold, it would wipe him out. It was the same this time. He was bedridden for a week, and you were there every day taking care of him. He wasn't even exaggerating, he was really sick and you were worried he would get dehydrated or his condition would get worse. You even wanted to take him to the emergency room, but he promised he was fine and just needed you by his side.
Once he finally felt well enough to get out of bed and go further than the bathroom, you felt a pair of arms hug you around your waist as you prepared lunch in the kitchen.
"Hey, baby" Your eyes lit up when you saw him.
"Hey" He smiled nuzzling his head into your neck and leaving a kiss.
"Are you feeling any better?" You asked.
"Mhm. My throat is still a little sore, but I feel much better." He says in a hoarse voice.
"Well, good then." You rise on your tiptoes to leave a kiss on his cheek. "You have no idea how happy that makes me. You really got me worried."
"Thank you for taking care of me" He smiles putting your face between his hands.
"You don't need to thank me for that. I enjoy doing it."
"I know, but that's my job - to take care of you and me."
"You know how they say, 'in sickness and in health'." You both laugh considering you're not even engaged yet, let alone married even though people around you keep asking you about it all the time.
"Do I hear the wedding bells?" Lando asks.
"I don't know, do you?"
"I think I do." He smirks biting his lip before pressing his lips against yours knowing it's only a matter of time before he proposes to you.
Although he felt better physically, he still hadn't mentally recovered from the 'defeat', even though he didn't want to admit it. But it gave him away when you looked for him on his side of the bed in your sleep and couldn't find him.
You squinted at your phone to see what time it was and when it showed 2 a.m. you found it strange that he wasn't there because he usually sleeps all night.
You headed straight for the living room where you found him on the couch in front of the TV. He was lying down in his boxers, watching TV, but his gaze was thoughtful and you knew something was bothering him.
"Lan?"
"Baby, what are you doing awake?" He asks extending his arm for you to lie down next to him.
"I have the same question for you." You say taking a place next to him and leaning your head against his chest.
"Couldn't sleep, I was tossing and turning the whole time, so I got up so I wouldn't wake you up."
"And why couldn't you sleep?" You ask, but he stays silent. "Lan, what's bothering you? Talk to me, please."
"You already know what it is" He sighs tracing his fingers over your shoulder. "But I don't wanna talk about it anymore. I really don't, I just need to get through it."
"Is there anything I can do about it?"
"You're here with me. That's all I need." He says placing a kiss to your forehead.
But you were determined to do something, anything, to make him feel at least a little better. And what's better than satisfying him to relieve him of frustration and tension.
Besides, it's been over two weeks since the last time you fucked. You'd be lying if you said you didn't need him in the same way and you thought tonight was the perfect opportunity for both of you so you straddled him and started kissing him gently.
He gave in to the kiss, not yet realizing what you were up to. It was only when you slowly started grinding your hips against him that he smiled into the kiss.
"What's on your mind, baby?" He asked gripping your hips.
"Just wanna make you feel better" You said moving your lips to his neck. He moaned throwing his head back and you felt him starting to get hard underneath you.
You soon positioned yourself between his legs and pulled his boxers down. He quickly got rid of them, throwing them aside, and you began to kiss him around his length.
"Wanna please you" You said between kisses.
He took his cock in his hand and tapped it against your lips. You stuck out your tongue and licked his tip making him groan in response. You teased him by slowly licking him up and down and he was starting to get impatient.
"Baby, please" He whispered stroking himself against your lips.
"Please, what, Lan?" You asked innocently, stopping his hand and cupping his balls.
"Put it in your mouth"
His breath catches as your lips finally wrap around his cock. He collects your hair into a ponytail and tilts his head to get a better look at you taking him all the way in.
You keep taking him deeper and deeper until his tip hit the back of your throat and you gag around him.
"Oh fuck.." He moans while his fingers keep raking and twirling in your hair. Your hand soon replaces your mouth as you spit on his tip and stroke him up and down. You don't want him to cum this way, you want him to cum inside you and you know he's close so you straddle him again guiding his cock to your entrance.
"Fuck, baby, fuck" His hands are pulling your night dress up to reveal your ass and grab it. He lets out a low groan as you slowly sink down on him. Leaning back, he shifts his hips up to adjust how he's sitting.
"You feel so good, so big inside of me" You whine as your rock your hips back and forth.
"Yeah?" His breath is ragged as he grips your hips tighter and attaches his lips against your neck.
"Stretching me out so good, Lan, shit" You make special effort to compliment him tonight as you keep on riding him quickening your pace.
He grips your ass tighter pulling you down harder on him. His breath is ragged in your ear and it makes you take him deeper and harder needing him to lose control. And you know what's coming next when you feel him twitch inside you.
"I'm cumming" He chokes out triggering your own orgasm. You clench around him as he fills you up biting his teeth into your skin.
He hugged you tightly, kissing your forehead while you lay leaning against his chest, barely catching your breath from the sweet release you both needed so desperately.
"I love you" He whispers. "I love you more than anything"

I would love a take on boyfriend Ghost coming home to surprise you, but he finds your bed empty and doesn't realize that you are in his room in his bed. Thanks.
The placebo effect, was what he kept trying to convince you it had to be, no matter how many times you rolled your eyes and told him he was wrong
How else could one explain your insistence that Simonâs bed smelled so much like him, becoming your safe space when he was away on long deployments, when he only ever slept with you in your bed most nights to begin with
Hard to believe it was nearly three years ago now that youâd told your friend since childhood, Johnny, about how your search for a new flat was going miserably. You remember how heâd perked up and recounted with a mischievous glint in his eye about how his Lieutenant was apparently searching for a flat mate at the moment, someone whoâd be looking after the place while he was away for work
Unsure about living with a strange man youâd never met before, but trusting Johnnyâs judgement (though the way he seemed just a bit too eager about this meeting did kind of throw you off-) you had reluctantly agreed to meet with him and at least give the flat a glance before you simply turned him down
It wasnât until you were knocking at the door of the address Johnny had written down for you, that youâd realized heâd never even given you the manâs goddamn name, only ever referring to him at Lieutenant or LT
Johnny apparently also failed to mention the absolute SIZE of the guy, his huge frame blocking nearly all of the light from behind him as he had swung the door open and stood in the doorway before you
In a slight panic, thrown off by the massive man before you and the way the butterflies in your stomach suddenly began to flutter at the sight of him, you had greeted him for the first time with a squeaky, unsure voice saying âUm, hi, are you the Mr Lieutenant?â (something he has never let you live down since)
He knew then and there that you would be the one
Not just his flatmate (though what a generous flatmate he was when he offered insisted on moving all your boxes out of your old place and into his that very same day), but the one, something he reluctantly had to give Soap credit for, seeing as he was the one who wouldnât stop talking his ear off about you
You would be his other half, his better half
And all these years later, the two bedroom flat truly only acted as a one bedroom, considering that from the start Simon was always falling into your bed with you at the end of each night, limbs tangled together under the warmth of a lovers embrace a thousand times more comforting than an actual comforter
Still though, that first time Simon had to be gone for work longer than a few weeks, you found the lingering odor of him clinging to his bedsheets to be one of the few things keeping you sane in his absence, taking to sleeping in his room for the time being, imagining that the pillow you cling to your front was a strong muscular arm instead, littered in scars and tattoos you feel confident you could recognize from touch alone
And when his long awaited flight back home to you landed a few hours earlier than expected, tires touching down in the dark, stillness of late night hour, he decided heâd surprise you and come straight home, rather than calling you to meet him at the base like youâd insisted, not wanting to wake you
Barely able to contain himself, he decided the elevator ride up to the seventh floor would take too long, take away precious seconds that brought him closer to you, and so up the flight of stairs he went, taking them two or three at a time, rushing to see the face etched behind his eyelids every time he closed his eyes, to hear the voice that haunted his dreams each night
Quietly as a man his size could, he crept into the flat, snuck his way into your room, expecting to see your sweet, sleeping form cuddled up amongst the blankets and pillows. But his heart dropped when he noticed the bed was still perfectly made, not a thread out of place.
Trying to remain calm, though his mind was instantly swarming with every possible scenario that could have taken place, he knew he saw your shoes and jacket by the door, you couldnât have gone far⊠but where were you?
He glanced into the living room, wondering if he missed you sleeping on the couch after a long day, he poked his head into the bathroom, even went so far as to check the small balcony, but finally there was only one door left to open.
And there you were, safe and sound, a tiny ball curled up into the center of his huge bed, clinging to one of his old masks and holding it close to your chest as though it were a security blanket (youâd been sleeping in his bed so much you needed something that still smelled strongly of him, you were getting desperate)
Stripping himself down to only his boxers, he tiptoed towards the side of the bed, his mind finally feeling more at peace than he ever had, gently pulling the sheets back just enough for him to slip in behind you, his strong arms wrapping around your middle and pulling you into his muscular chest
Though it should be alarming to suddenly feel a pair of hands roaming over your skin, a body holding you firmly against their own, itâs as though your body knows who it is before your mind does
Any tension you were still holding onto during his absence instantly melts away, your own hands coming to land over top of his, giving a slight squeeze of acknowledgment, not yet willing to fully leave your half asleep state, but needing to touch him, to confirm he really is here
âHmm,â You hum, voice groggy with sleep and a smile slowly stretching across your lips, snuggling further into his embrace. âYouâre home.â
He presses a kiss to the top of your head, breathing you in, wishing he could bottle up the scent of your shampoo and lotions and perfumes, if only to have something to hold onto while heâs away, understanding now why he found you in this bed rather than your own
âI am.â He whispers into your hair, sensing that youâre already drifting back into dream land, safe in his arms and his bed, knowing heâll be there when you wake. He feels his chest tighten when he knows that you werenât talking about the fact that heâs physically home, in the flat, but something more, something much more, because he means the same thing when he tells you, âYouâre my home too, love.â

Fable - After
Pairing:Â Azriel x Reader
Summary:Â Your wings were gone. The healing process would teach you much about yourself, but it would teach Azriel, too. Does it matter, in the end?
Word count: 7k
Warnings: Angst, injury, symptoms of depression (including difficulty eating)
a/n: This is part of a mini-series and the other parts can be found in the link below. Sorry this is literally so long lol. Debating on adding another chapter to the end because I obviously have a lot to say! Also, I won't be posting an update for about a week because I'll be traveling, so I hope this long chapter holds you over. Thank you :)
Series Masterlist (all parts âĄ)
~~
You woke as the sun did. Yellow light made an imprint behind your eyelids and the grogginess that immediately followed let you know that this was not the first time you had been awake. Sleeping through the night had become a luxury not afforded to you.Â
You clenched the pillow at your cheek between your fingers and tried to pull at the loose threads of sleep that were escaping you.Â
Someone was in your room.Â
Someone was always in your room these days, but this morning, you knew it was Azriel. You could feel the whisps of his shadows making barely-there strokes along your back, and his scent was unmistakable. If it was Azriel today, they didnât expect you to talk. When they wanted you to try and speak, they sent Cassian or Mor or even Feyre on the odd occasion.Â
They didnât expect you to talk when it was Azriel.Â
You supposed everyone thought you were mad at him. Truthfully, part of you was mad at him. If he had just opened his eyes once over the last hundreds of years, he would have seen that you were right thereâthat you were more than a responsibility for him to look after. That you were a woman in love with him and he was a fool for taking so long to notice.Â
But another part of you felt that you couldnât blame him. Azriel had never had much luck in the romance department, and youâd always chalked that up to self-sabotage. He seemed to go after women he knew he couldnât have and only assumed late-night trysts with those he could, so you couldnât expect much out of him. And how was he to know that you pined after him? It wasnât as if youâd ever made any kind of move.Â
But Elain had so enamored him and you were so angry at that part. Because you had been there and he had never taken the leaps and bounds he had with her.Â
He had left you in that camp, so ready to believe your lie to appease her.Â
You were the biggest fool of all.Â
In actuality, neither of those parts mattered. There wasnât some internal strife that fought against your sleep and made you question your feelings. You werenât mad at Azriel. You werenât mad at anyone or anything. You felt empty.Â
You gave up on sleep, breathing heavily through your nose and squinting your eyes into the sun that peaked through your curtains. Your back ached, and even more, the insurmountable pressure on your chest was amplified by the bandages that wrapped around from behind you. They made it difficult to breathe.Â
No infection had set in. It had been two and a half weeks since the incident, and Madja cleared you to begin moving around a few days ago and noted that you were âout of the woods, medically.â Everyone looked relieved as if that news had changed anything. To them, you supposed it did. You would live. That was good.Â
Azriel knew you were awake, you were sure of it. You heard his chair groan as if he were leaning forward in it, and his shadows had begun to traipse around your head, weaving in and out of your hair and blocking the light from your eyes.Â
He would try to get you to eat, look at you with those pitying eyes, and apologize when you could barely sit up and hold out a plate as if you were going to eat it. You hadnât met his gaze since you woke up and there was more than just resentment behind that. There was shameâyou were so ashamed of what you had become. What you had let happen.Â
Maybe that was another reason why you felt so empty. How could Azriel even look at you as anything other than broken? When you were wholeâwhen you had your wingsâthere was an irrational part of you that considered you had a chance with the Shadowsinger if he would just see you.Â
There was nothing to see now.Â
âAre you awake?â Azriel asked, keeping his voice low in the quiet room. You nodded against the pillow, face still turned from his view. The chair groaned once again. âAre you hungry?âÂ
No head shake. It was a frequent question that you hated being asked.Â
Azrielâs footsteps were soft against your carpet. He kneeled beside your bed and attempted to catch your fleeting gaze, but you found a spot on the floor and kept it there.Â
âCan you try?â he prompted. His textured fingers brushed the hair from your eyes. âNot even at the table. Iâll have the House bring you something here.âÂ
You pressed your lips together and fought off the burning in your nose.Â
âPlease, y/n. I know youâre angry with meâI know. But please, just try to eat something.âÂ
Angry at himâanger wasnât even in your repertoire at the moment. But he sounded so desperate, as did every other member of your family, and you didnât want the let them down more than you already had. You shut your eyes and nodded, resigned.Â
You built up the strength to prop yourself up on your arms, but thatâs where you stopped. Your center of gravity had been completely ripped from you. Anytime you moved without your wings, it felt like free-falling from a mountain. Madja had offeredâseveral times since physically clearing youâto come and get you back on your feet, but the motivation wasnât there.Â
You couldnât imagine walking without the weight at your back.Â
And you had avoided every reflection known to man; seeing yourself would be too much.Â
âI have you,â Azriel encouraged, holding you at your waist as he twisted your body up. âAlmost. There we go, angelâ âhe positioned you between pillows that hadnât been on your bed beforeâ âHowâs that? Is it alright?âÂ
Humiliation felt like a hot knife. You nodded and found a spot on the bed to focus on. You could feel Azrielâs lingering gaze and he hesitated before placing a bowl of broth on a small platter before you.Â
âIs that okay?âÂ
You nodded again, biting the inside of your lip. Your back ached.Â
âDo you want me to leave?âÂ
You nodded.Â
Azriel hesitated once more, rocking back on his heels before clearing his throat and letting the door softly shut behind him. The tears came then, and you were so tired of crying.Â
~~
Azrielâs POV
Outside of your room, Azrielâs forehead was pressed against the wood of your door. The intricate carvings imprinted his right palm as he kept it pressed there as well, and Azriel had to breathe through his nose to calm himself.Â
He was at a loss.Â
He didnât blame you for not speaking to him, but you wouldnât speak to anyone. You wouldnât get out of bed unless it was Mor or Feyre lifting you for a bath and you wouldnât leave your room at all. They had all expected thisâplanned for a long healing processâbut you were so⊠lifeless.Â
Gods, he was helpless. You wouldnât even look at him.Â
Azriel clenched his jaw and tried to listen for the clink of the spoon against the bowl when a hand on his back startled him. Because that was another thingâheâd been off his game since you got hurt, completely useless as a spy.Â
âHow is she?â Cassian. Cassian was just as worried as Azriel, but Azriel was pretty sure you were looking him in the eye at least. âGet her to talk?âÂ
âNo,â Azriel breathed through a constricting throat. He turned to meet his brotherâs face. He was sure Cassian still held some resentment towards him, but heâd apologized for his outburst when you arrived at the House. Apologized, but not entirely forgiven.Â
Cassian sighed and rubbed at his jaw. âIs she at least eating?âÂ
âShe agreed to eat. I left her with some soup. She wanted me to leave.âÂ
âShe say that?âÂ
âI asked and she nodded.âÂ
Cassian kissed his teeth and curled his wings in tighter. âHave you⊠talked to her?âÂ
Azriel had to fight the urge to scoff, throwing his brother an incredulous look. âObviously I talk to her, Cassian. I donât stand in her room and motion at things.âÂ
In response, Cassian did not fight the urge to roll his eyes. âI mean actually talk to her, Azriel. About what happened. You finding her. Her lying and you not being there. I know it was one of the only missions at the camps sheâs been at without you there. That means something, no?âÂ
âI donât think she wants to talk to me at allâlet alone rehash all of that.âÂ
âAzriel,â Cassian started, stepping forward to place a hand on Azrielâs shoulder. âGive her a chance to push you away. Let her be the one to do it. If you play into this fear, it might confirm things for her, and you know her mind isnât in a good place.âÂ
Azriel winced. âI think you might be better toââÂ
âNo, Az, you. Let her eat her breakfast, give her an hour or two, and then go back in there and talk to her. Iâve already been talking to her and she wonât say a word to me. I think youâre the only person whoâs been too afraid to.âÂ
Azriel sighed and then leaned his head back until it knocked against your door. In another life, you mightâve called out and asked who was there. But there was only silence.Â
Cassian sent Azriel a look with raised brows and patted his brother twice on the shoulder before backing into the hall. He had taken four steps towards the dining room before Azriel called, âWhat did you mean then, about me being blind?âÂ
Cassian paused but didnât turn. Azriel watched his head tilt to the side and a deep sigh escaped him.Â
âShouldnât have said that,â Cassian muttered. He started walking once more. âJustâthink a little more.â

Original POV
Breakfast was fine; you kept it down and that was the goal.Â
Following breakfast, you thumbed through the books Nesta had sent to you. The action was lackadaisical and without purpose. You werenât going to read them.Â
You took breaks from staring at the wall to stare out the window instead, but that only sent waves of something heavy through your chest. The skies looked so open today, with only a few clouds and endless rays of sun. Maybe if it were raining, it wouldnât hurt so much to look out the window.Â
You were being left alone far more than usual today.Â
Perhaps they had grown tired of being around a stubborn mute who refused to see the bright side of things, the âwell, with your injuries itâs a miracle youâre still alive,â talks not entirely working on you. You were sure that was true, but you didnât particularly care about the marvel it took to put you back together.Â
This miracle felt hollow.Â
As you were about to shut your eyes and drown the rest of the day in sleep, a small knock and the creak of your door stopped you. You snapped your gaze forward and quickly averted it when you recognized Azriel stepping in, his shadows preceding him and rushing you in circles.Â
You expected him to take up his post in the chair beside your bed with a simple greetingâas he had done every visit to your room in the past weeksâso when he stood at the door and spoke, confusion and anxiety filled you.Â
âUm, hello,â he began. You watched his hands fumble around each other before he cleared his throat and brought them behind his back. âI realize I havenât given you a full opportunity to be angry with me. Iâve only offered pleasantries and⊠well, moved you around. I wanted to speak to you if thatâs alright?âÂ
You fixed your gaze on the wall behind him and twisted your lips to the side in the show of a grimace.Â
âYou donât have to say anything backâunless youâd like to. It would justâCan I just sit and talk?âÂ
You had no idea why he was asking. Everyone else in the House sat in your room and talked your ear off, asking questions they wouldnât get an answer to and telling you about the happenings in town. Azriel was the only one who stayed silent and, now, was the only one to ask permission to speak.Â
Still, you slowly nodded and shifted on the pillows.Â
âDoes anything hurt?â he began, stepping forward with a hesitant hand reaching towards you. âI could fixââÂ
You shook your head. He sat in the chair.
There was a beat of silenceâuncomfortable silence, which was odd because Azriel had always been the one you felt most comfortable being quiet around.Â
When he spoke, the torture in his voice had you finally whipping around to look at his face, but his gaze was downturned.Â
âThis is my fault,â he said, strained and cracked as he clasped his hands tightly between his knees. âI know Iâve apologized to you since you woke up, but itâs never really been for that. You have to know how sorry I am, y/n. How much I wish I had just come with you. I always come with you.âÂ
The muscle in his jaw jumped. âIâI donât understand why youâd lie about Lucien going with you. Or Cassian, for that matter. I thought it was always obvious that Iâd do anything for youâthat you were more important to me than a date.âÂ
Something twisted and pulled inside of you. You were getting the devotion you so desired from him, but it was cast behind a layer of something ugly. You were more important than a dateâthen why did it hurt as he spoke the words to you?
âIâm sorry that I ever made you feel otherwise. Iâm sorry that you felt you had to lie for my benefit. But, y/n, I thought you were dead. I walked into that camp and I heard you scream, and I thoughtâI thought you were dead when I held you in my arms. There was so much blood andââÂ
Azrielâs words choked and stopped in the air. He pressed his hands in prayer over his mouth and when he looked up, he caught you in your stare. You sat paralyzed, wide-eyed, as he looked at you directly.Â
âWhy did you lie?â he asked weakly. âI would have been there. And Iâm sorry I believed you so easily, but weâve always been honest with each other. Youâve always had me.âÂ
Your chin trembled. You were tired of crying, but the irony of his words hit you with full force and your wings were gone. Your wings were gone and nothing would ever be the same again.Â
Your trembling jaw quickly morphed into the too-quick intake of breath that made your shoulders tremble as well. And then you were heaving in ugly sobs that hurt to let go of. You clutched at the blankets beneath you until your knuckles turned white.Â
Why did you lie?Â
Why did youâ
âHey, hey, Iâm sorry,â Azriel hushed. He was on the bed now. You hadnât heard the chair when he got up. âIâm sorry. Iâm sorry,â he whispered into your hair. He held you at your shoulders and pressed your face into his chest. This was the most anyone had touched you. Madja only healed with brief skims of her hands and everyone else moved you with panicked touches.
âAngel, Iâm sorry. I didnât meanââÂ
When you spokeâfor the first time as this new personâyour throat made the words unintelligible. Everything was scratchy and hoarse from misuse, but Azriel heard it. He gently pushed you back and found your eyes once more, his gaze wide and encouraging.Â
You tried again, and again, each time more coherent but also filled with the tears the Shadowsinger continued to wipe from your cheeks.Â
âI didnât mean to lie,â finally ripped from your chest. âI onlyâonlyââ You hiccuped and Azrielâs face crumpled. âI just wanted you to be happy.âÂ
Azrielâs eyes were already glassy, but when your voice finally rang in his ears, the tears fell. He pressed your face into his chest once more. This time, you brought your hands up to clench his shirt between your fingers. And, because you were already vulnerable and because this was the first time in weeks you no longer felt numb, you whispered out, âMy wings are gone,â and Azriel held you tighter.Â
~~
You woke to speaking, a voice seeming to rattle in your head. You couldnât remember falling asleep, only knowing it must have been a productive sleep because you did not feel weighed down. Your back throbbed, as it typically did after sleep, but there was no heaviness at your chest and you felt rested.Â
Another voice in the room sounded off, and you kept your eyes shut as you tried to piece together the words.Â
ââto walk. Important for her healthâtoo much timeââÂ
The voice rumbling your head then said, âShe might not be ready. We shouldnât push her.âÂ
âShe will never be ready, Azriel.â Rhysand, you deduced, the conversation in the room becoming more clear. âBut, as Madja has said, if we donât try to get her at least out of this room, sheâll be stuck in her head. Just try to get her to the balcony. Start with that.âÂ
âRhysandââÂ
âDonât Rhysand me. Itâs almost been three weeks. Her back is nearly healed. Thatâs not what weâre worried about now.âÂ
âAnd what are we worried about?â Azriel bit back. You were on his chest. Hands were on your waist.
The room lulled into a tense pause, the echo of Azrielâs near growl punctuating the silence.Â
The door opened and closed, someoneâs footfall departing.Â
âYouâve scared off our healer, Azriel,â Rhysand noted with a mock scold. Azriel let out a small scoff. âWe are all worried about her, Az. I know it feels⊠maybe like itâs you against the world, but itâs not. We need to get her up and moving. Her headspace isnât good.âÂ
Azriel shifted you in his arms. âFine.âÂ
âAnd Madja needs to come back in to change her dressings.âÂ
Your hair was moved behind your ear. âFine.âÂ
Rhysand let out a tortured sigh.Â
~~
Azrielâs POVÂ
Azriel was going to try today.Â
He said that yesterday, but yesterday, you had let him coerce you into sitting by the window instead of in bed, and you had talked to him the entire time, so he forgot to bring it up.Â
A large part of Azriel was afraid of pushing youâafraid that you would close up again and refuse to look at him. But he knew Rhys and Madja and everyone else in this House was right. You needed to start making progress. You needed to be able to live some semblance of a normal life without your wings.Â
It was strange to see you without them. The pit in his chest grew each time you moved to accommodate them. You would shift in bed or reach around to reposition the fantom limb and realization would come before the dread. Sometimes that was it for the day, you wouldnât speak anymore. Azriel would read to you when that happened.Â
You had started to talk to the rest of the circle, which Azriel was mostly glad for, but the smallest bout of protectiveness had somehow dug its way into his heart. When he would walk into your room to find you chatting with Cassian or listening to Rhys, Azriel would have to pause at the territorial feeling that temporarily consumed him. He figured it was only because you were still hurt. That would fade.Â
When he came in today, you were alone, and Azriel felt relieved. For a moment.Â
You were already awake and looked well-rested, which was detrimental to his plan of asking you while you were half asleep. You set your book down to stare up at him, and even the fact that you were reading was not lost on him.Â
You were making progress. This was part of progress.
âGood morning, y/n,â Azriel greeted, standing at the foot of your bed.Â
The action already made you nervous. You eyed the chair beside you and glanced back at him. âHi, Az.âÂ
Azrielâs lash fluttered at the sound of your voice, still so fresh after weeks of silence. You were meeker than you once sounded, unsure and small.Â
Azriel took in a breath before asking, âHowâs today?â
âToday is good,â you replied, words slow.Â
Azriel spied the remaining badges peeking out from the top of your shirt. You needed this. âI think we should walk today.âÂ
Silence consumed the room. Your lips parted as you stared at him, and Azriel immediately wanted to eat his words. Another beat of silence. And then another. He tried desperately not to shift weight between his feet lest he look antsy or unsure.Â
You blinked, twice, and then stared down at your fingers as they rested in your lap.Â
âI know it will be difficult,â Azriel tried, speaking low. âBut Iâll be here. We donât have to go far. A few steps, thatâs all Iâm asking.âÂ
You pressed your thumbnail into your palm, brows furrowed. You hadnât smiled, Azriel realized, not since before. Your tongue darted out to wet your lips before you spoke.Â
âOkay.âÂ
âOkay?â Azriel asked, bending down to catch your gaze unsuccessfully.Â
You blinked back up at him. âOkay, Iâll try.â And then, in a much lower tone, as Azriel walked to your side, you grumbled, âNot as if I could get any lower than I am now.âÂ
âWhat does that mean?â
âNothing,â you replied, reaching for his outstretched hands. âDoesnât mean anything.âÂ
Azriel decided to revisit that later. He wouldnât pass up this opening you had provided, even though his heart ached at what youâd insinuated. He held your hands in his own and leaned forward as you shifted yourself to the side, your legs hanging off the edge of the bed.Â
Already, the disorientation on your face was difficult to stomach. You swayed backward with a pinched expression and your nostrils flared in frustration, but Azriel only held your hands firm and steady.Â
âHey, itâs okay,â he comforted, allowing his thumb to brush your knuckle. âAnything hurt?â
You shook your head, your lips pressed in a tight line. Azriel forced himself into your field of vision and nodded, softly counting to three as your eyes darted quickly between both of his. As your legs straightened and Azrielâs hands held you up, you refused to break the connection. Azriel wouldnât be the one to break it.Â
You were shaky on your feet and completely unbalanced, but you were standing, and that was all Azriel could ask for. He gripped your hands tighter as your breathing deepened, the struggle evident on your face.Â
âFeel okay?â Azriel asked.Â
âNo,â you grimaced. âBut keep going,â you breathed out.Â
âOkay, okay. Start with your right. I wonât let go of you.âÂ
And you did as he asked, albeit with a small groan and a look up at the ceiling. You abandoned the frustration in favor of staring directly at your feet and white-knuckling the grip on Azrielâs hands as you swayed and brought your right foot forward. The moment you placed it down you wobbled on it and had to right yourself three times, causing one of Azrielâs hands to come around your waist.Â
You gritted your teeth but continued with your left foot with some encouragement from Azriel. He stepped back with each step you took forward, his hands glued to your body to correct the mistakes from your core. You made it six steps and Azriel was elated. He let out a small, breathy laugh.Â
âYouâre incredible,â he deemed.Â
And it was so, so small, but the scoff-like laugh you offered was accompanied by a minuscule half-smile, and Azriel was over the moon. You looked up at him, a sarcastic upturn of your eyes lighting them up, and Azriel was struck then.Â
Mate.Â
Mate.Â
It was so obvious, so clear. There was never anything but this. But you.Â
You were meant to be his and he yours. Years of this pull to you, and he always thought it to be one of friendship. Heâd always loved you, always, but heâd never humored the possibility of anything more. Youâd seen him in his teen years. Gods, youâd seen him in his twenties when he was terribly full of himself without the credentials to be so.Â
And heâd seen you through the decades of your life as well.Â
But everything was so much clearer now. Heâd always been protective of you, always been the first to follow you. That was part of why this had been so devastatingâheâd let you down, left you alone. For another woman.Â
Azriel felt his stomach lurch and then something rotten was left in his mouth.Â
His mateâheâd let this happen to his mate.Â
And what had he said in the store that day? When youâd asked him what would happen if heâd found his mate?
Heâd said it wouldnât matter, that Elain was bigger than a mating bond.Â
Elain.
âAzriel?â Your worried tone snapped him back to the present. To the way your legs shook and your body swayed before him. He quickly scooped you up at your waist and held you close as he walked you back to the bed.Â
âThatâs enough for today,â he said, tucking you back into the bed. His hands were shaking. âDoes anything hurt?â
âAre you okay?â you asked, and when you looked at him with your wide eyes, he was so angry at himself.Â
Nothing made sense, but everything did.Â
âIâm alright,â he reassured, placing a hand on the top of your head. âWe need to take that slow. Your muscles need to be rebuilt along with your balance.âÂ
He needed to get out of this room. He needed toâ
âI promise Iâll be able to do more tomorrow. Youâll⊠come back tomorrow, right?âÂ
Something was screaming at him. His shadows. They twisted and struck his ears before coming down to rest gently at your shoulders.Â
âOf course I will.âÂ
~~
Original POV
Azriel did not come back the following day, or the day after that.Â
Mor came on the first day, a smile plastered on her concerned face. She held her hands out as Azriel did and got you to walk ten steps before exhaustion made your legs shake. She sat beside your bed and went on and on about some shop in Velaris and you laid back and listened.Â
You loved Mor, but it became hard to swallow when she was the one to walk through your door that morning.Â
The next day, it was Cassian.Â
He grinned and boasted about being the best person on the job, rounding your bed and heaving you up by your hips until you were pressed against his front. Cassian took a different approach to you relearning how to walk, placing your feet on top of his to move as he did. He was joking at first, laughter fresh in his tone, but he got serious as your brow twisted and your body swayed.Â
âYou got it,â he assured. He stepped back, his hands now just hovering over your hips as you balanced against him. âYouâre doing great.âÂ
You gripped the sleeves of his shirt. âI should know how to walk,â you said through gritted teeth. âI shouldnât have stayed in bed so long.âÂ
âYou were healing. Resting. No one expected you to hop up and be fine, y/n.âÂ
âI moped for too long. This wouldnât be so hard if I had started earlier.âÂ
âHeyââÂ
Frustration had accumulated, building since realizing that you really were only a fraction of yourself, and that was probably why Azriel hadnât come back. You clenched your teeth once more and pushed from Cassianâs body, finding the ground beneath your feet and ignoring the protest from the Illyrian before youâthe one with his wings so tightly pressed to his back that you almost could forget they were there. Almost.Â
But the action was short-lived. Cassian grappled for your waist as your body only allowed you two steps forward before you shot backward, an ache permeating down your spine as it tried to accommodate the movement.Â
âCauldron, y/n, warn a guy,â Cassian scolded, stepping you back to sit on the bed. âDid you do this with everyone or am I just special?âÂ
Frustration burned behind your eyes. You stayed silent as you scrubbed your hand down your face. You couldnât even fling yourself back against the bed as you wanted, knowing that pain would radiate down your back if you did.Â
You couldnât do anything. The extra time youâd spent with Azriel had created a false sense of⊠something you needed to let go of. He was pitying youâthat was all. You were a broken creature, and he felt responsible.Â
âWhat was that about, huh?â Cassian asked, kneeling before you and looking up below a raised brow.Â
âIâm broken,â you admitted, resolute and small. âThatâs why Azriel wonât come back, isnât it? I canât walk. Iâm not how I was. I let this happen to me. I should know how to walk.âÂ
Cassianâs tongue clicked as his head tilted to the side. âNo, y/n, youâre not broken. You didnât let anything happen to you. This is allâGods, this is all a fucking mess. But the one thing you can know is that you arenât broken. And Azrielâheâs dealing with something right now. Heâs not avoiding you because youâre broken.âÂ
You stared back at him, the empty feeling slowly creeping back into your chest. You bit the inside of your cheek and nodded when Cassian gave you an expectant look. You would act as if you believed him, and the following day, when Azriel stepped through your door, maybe it felt a bit easier to lie.Â
âDid you handle what you needed to?â you asked him, your hands cemented against his own as he guided you around your room. The words came out strained as your balance faltered.Â
Azriel took a moment before responding, âYou could say that.âÂ
âWas it Elain?â You hadnât meant to ask the question, and the bitterness in your tone was new to even you, but it came out all the same. You avoided Azrielâs gaze as it snapped to your face.Â
âSome of it,â he admitted. His eyes burned into you. You stared at your feet as you stepped. âBut only some.âÂ
âHowâs that working out for you?âÂ
âY/n.âÂ
You stepped again. And again. It was easier each day, but that also spelled a more difficult future. The further you walked, the sooner you would have to come to terms with your wings being gone. Staying in bed helped you avoid that truth.Â
You ignored Azrielâs call and stepped again.Â
âLook at me. Please.âÂ
You shifted your jaw to the side but glanced up through your lashes and gave in to his request. Azrielâs beseeching expression made you falter.Â
âI can never apologize fully for not being there that night. With Elainââ Azriel paused, wincing. âIâve been blind to whatâs important. You tried to tell me. Everyone tried to tell me. I was so caught up in a chance at happiness. It was never about Elain.âÂ
You had no reply. Your legs were shaking.Â
Azriel seemed to take a different approach. âI meant what I said beforeâthat youâre incredible. Youâve pushed yourself so hard and weâre all proud of you.âÂ
âIs that why you didnât come back when you said you would?â you asked. The tinge of bitterness remained. âBecause youâre proud of me?âÂ
âI had toây/n, there were thingsââÂ
âJust say youâve been visiting out of pity, Azriel. That would make this easier.âÂ
You gripped his hands harder as your wave of frustration made walking more difficult. You grunted slightly and Azriel took that as a sign to shift your weight from your feet, holding you to his body even as you struggled against him, even as you averted your gaze.Â
Gods, this was better when you kept your mouth shut.Â
âI do not pity you. Y/nây/n. I donât, do you hear me?âÂ
âWhy?â you stressed, pushing your hands against his chest in a futile escape attempt. âWhy, Azriel? Too busy running after Elain to make room for it?âÂ
âDonât say that. I already told youââ
âJust let me go.âÂ
âNo.â
âOh, so now you listen to me.âÂ
âY/nââÂ
âThis was already humiliating, Azriel. And then you said youâd be back and you werenât,â you accused. âYou got weird when I finally started walking and I know you only came in here because Cassian told you about yesterday.âÂ
âYesterday?â he questioned.Â
You rolled your eyes. It was so much easier to be angry than hurt. âWhen I asked about you. I know he canât keep a secret.âÂ
Azriel only shook his head. âHe hadnât told me anything. I needed a few days because Iâm the weak one. Me. I needed distance because Iâm reminded, every time I see you, that I could have prevented this. Im selfish.
âAnd Elain,â he trailed off, hazel eyes flicking between yours. âI had to tell her that Iâve been a fool. I wonât be pursuing her anymore.âÂ
Your brows furrowed. You gave up fighting against Azriel, but he kept both of your hands in a grip at his chest, his other arm locked at your lower back. This felt like a weight lifted from your chest, but it wasnât that easy. None of this was easy.Â
âWhy?âÂ
Azriel paused.Â
Something flashed across his face, indecipherable to even you, but he covered it just as quickly.
âIt wasnât supposed to be her. Iâve always known that.âÂ
More silence blanketed the room. Your earlier anger melted into a white-hot embarrassment that lingered in the pit of your stomach. Youâd never been one quick to anger. Azriel hadnât even blinked an eye.Â
âCan I help you back to your bed?â
You pressed your lips together.Â
âI want to read with you, if thatâs alright?âÂ
Your head turned down. You nodded.Â
~~Â
Azrielâs POVÂ
Azriel couldnât tell you.Â
He couldnât.Â
It was clear that no bond lit up your chest as his did, and that made sense to Azriel. Youâd been through a loss few could ever imagine. You were stuck in your head for most of the day, and then angry or numb for the rest of it. The only time you seemed to find reprieve was during conversation that had nothing to do with anything of meaning.Â
Azriel would take what he could get. So he read beside you and helped you walk and he didnât tell you that a bond connected your souls.Â
How could he even broach the subject, anyway? When he had so openly pined after another woman?Â
This was not the time.Â
You needed to focus on yourself. He would focus on you and you would focus on yourself.Â
It had been about a month since you began walking again, and two since your injury. He counted each day. On the second week of the third month, Azriel saw you in the hallway. Feyre walked alongside you as you trailed your fingers on the wall, and while it gave the air of a casual stroll, he could see his High Ladyâs hand hover behind you. While he took effortful breaths to calm his excitement, his shadows did not.Â
âAzriel, what terrible timing!â Feyre scolded, batting away the shadows as they stormed you. âI finally got her out here and you're going to knock her over with air.â
âI apologize,â he spoke, but he wasnât sorry in the slightest. Despite your unsteady gait, you lit up as his shadows swirled around you, displacing your hair and clothes as you went. And then you laughed; a small sound, but one that Azriel felt in his chest.Â
âCall them back,â you giggled. Azrielâs face warmed along with his chest. âIâm going to collapse into this wall if you donât.âÂ
âAzriel,â Feyre called, and Azriel hadnât noticed he was staring. He blinked and shook his head as if to clear it and tried to call his shadows back. And then tried again.Â
They were stuck to you.Â
âI really am trying,â he explained, taking a step closer. âThey seem attached.âÂ
âI canât imagine why,â Feyre groaned. She shot the Shadowsinger a look and wrapped her arm around your shoulder, tugging you into her side. âIdiot bats.âÂ
As the pair walked past him, his shadows still whispering along your arms, you hooked your chin over your shoulder, casting him a lingering gaze. It was odd to see your face with such clarity, no wings clouding his view. Even more odd was the uncomfortable way you walked; the leaning into Feyreâs side was more necessary than for the show.Â
The strangest thing, however, was the tug in his chest that left him breathless. Every time you looked at him, that thread in his chest tugged and yanked and begged him to get closer.Â
But this wasnât the time.Â
Maybe it wouldnât be the time for several decades.Â
Not after he let you down in such a way.Â
He would spend the rest of his life making up for that, even if you were none the wiser to the bond between you. He would protect you for the rest of your life, as he was meant to do from the beginning. That feeling, the urge, only swelled as you turned forward and continued your walk with your High Lady, Azriel still hearing the remnants of your laugh in the hall as you went.Â
A shadow broke away from your figure and lopped around his ear, reminding him that he actually did have a destination before he became so enraptured by you. It whispered to him hurriedly and Azriel had to break his gaze from your retreating back as he made his way to Rhysandâs study. Each step had him increasingly irritated; he should have been with you the day you decided to leave your room.Â
He bit back his vexation when he felt the tension in the room.Â
âAzriel. Good,â Rhysand greeted. The door swung shut. âSit. We need to talk.âÂ
âThat doesnât sound promising,â Azriel remarked, shifting his leathers as he took a wide seat on the chair across Rhysandâs desk.Â
From the couch beside him, Cassian let out a humorless chuckle. âI think youâll find this quite promising, brother.âÂ
âAs long as itâs quick. I have other things to attend to today.âÂ
Cassian sent a wry grin in Rhysandâs direction. âI told you heâd see her in the hall.â He turned back to Azriel. âPacked schedule today, Az?âÂ
âYou know better, Cassian,â Rhysand chided, the lightness in his tone betraying the scolding nature of his words.Â
âIs there an actual point to this discussion?â Azriel deadpanned.Â
âBond feeling a little loose?âÂ
Azriel threw him a dirty look. It hadnât taken a genius to recognize the change in Azriel the day the bond snapped, his heightened aggression paired with the scent of you still lingering on his clothes had Cassian immediately clocking the Shadowsinger. Heâd looked surprisedâgaurded and surprised. Rhysand looked as if heâd been the one waiting for the bond to snap, and Azriel had sent him a myriad of questions.Â
Namely: Why the hell wouldnât he tell him he thought you were his mate?Â
âDonât taunt him, Cass.âÂ
âWhereâs the fun in that?âÂ
âAre we getting to the point?â Azriel drawled. The desire to get back to you itched beneath his skin. Maybe youâd made it to the kitchen and heâd sit at the table beside you.Â
Rhysand sighed. He tapped his finger against a piece of parchment laid on the desk. âI have correspondence from the northeast camp. From the spies you have placed there.âÂ
Azriel sat up in his chair. âWhy wouldnât they speak to me directly?âÂ
âI had them turn all communication over to me. Youâre too close to this and I wouldnât have you acting rashly and putting yourself in unnecessary danger.âÂ
âThey are my spiesââÂ
âI didnât do it to undermine you, Azriel,â Rhysand interrupted, raising a hand in surrender. âYou canât tell me that if you got word her attackers were found you wouldnât immediately rush into that camp without a plan or even a weapon.âÂ
Azriel breathed hard from his nose and clenched the wooden chair arms between scarred fingers.Â
In the silence, Rhysand continued. âI wouldnât expect anything less, brother. But you understand why that was a risk I couldnât take.âÂ
âWhat did the correspondence say?â Azriel gritted out, his mood depleted of the lightness you had brought.Â
Rhysand eyed Cassian on the other side of the room before fixing his gaze on his Spymaster. âThe escaped attackers have been identified. They arenât contained, and no one even knows where they are, but we know who they are.âÂ
Fiery rage met Azrielâs soured mood.
If only he knew of the terrors that would continue to fall.Â

I disassociate when I do that :)
It's better to communicate with people but also be happy in your own space and skin. Try to understand your situation and usually things get better. Be warned though, understanding too much and beginning to pity yourself will lead you to living hell. ^^â€ïž

Rafe slammed the truck door shut behind him, twisting his key into the ignition. Ward stood in the doorway ahead of him, his mouth moving but his words unheard. Rafe stopped listening to him even before he decided to leave. He couldnât listen to it anymore. The rain pelted the windowsill, overpowering the pounding sound of his accelerated heartbeat. He pulled out of the driveway, no destination in mind. He just had to leave.
As he drove, his headlights broke through the rain ahead, illuminating the pitch black road. His breathing was still heavy, trying to ignore his fight with Ward. They werenât exactly few and far between, but this one had escalated particularly badly. He replayed it over and over, on the verge of screaming just to make it stop.
He didnât know why he tried to hard to impress Ward, or to get his validation. Everyone is his life left in one way or another. Whether it was on their own terms, or they were taken. He clung to Ward and the fact that just maybe, he would stick around. Be proud of him. In the end, everyone gave up on him. Everyone screwed him over.
Except maybe one person.
When Rafe first met you, he didnât like you. He never thought he could be friends with a pogue, let alone be with one romantically. You had too much confidence for someone who didnât have very much. He admit, he thought less of you. He judged you about things that didnât truly matter. Eventually, he began to find you endearing. You didnât need boats, a big house, designer clothes, or anything material to be happy. You knew who you were, and he admired that.
You understood him in ways no kook ever had, and probably more than any kook ever will. You knew hardship, and you saw through his bravado. You could tell deep down, he was in pain. No money could fix what was truly happening inside. All the other kooks were shallow. Never having any conversations with substance, just rambling about bullshit. Rafe never really fit in with any of them. He pretended to be friends with most of them, to keep up appearances and his reputation. At the end of the day, he knew none of them truly cared about him. Even worse, he knew they would mock him if they knew he was with you.
Without realizing, Rafe ended up pulling into your driveway. Through the still pouring rain, he could barely see your house. All the lights were off, including the porch light. Were you home? He didnât even know. As his mind reeled, he automatically drove here. He wanted to see you. Wanted your comfort. Before you, he hadnât had that in a long time. Since his momâŠno one had ever been there for him. No one to tell him things would be okay, no one to comfort him, or hold him. He craved it.
He hopped out of the car, jogging through the rain to your front door. He rapped his knuckles, hoping you would appear on the other side. He saw a light turn on inside, and exhaled a sigh of relief.
You opened the door, met with a dripping wet and sad looking Rafe on the other side. You were surprised to see him. You had some distance from each other recently, since Rafe told you that his friends couldnât know about your relationship. You pulled back as he continued to hang out with them, unsure how to move forward.
Seeing him here made your heart sink. He pouted as his blue eyes bore into yours, sadness overcoming his entire expression.
âCan I come in?â he asked. âPlease.â
âOf course,â you muttered. You stepped aside, letting Rafe into your empty house.
He crossed the threshold, a shiver coming over his body at the sudden change of temperature. His wet clothes left him cold, making the warmth of your house even more shocking to his system. He wiped at his face in attempt to dry it.
âAre you cold?â you asked gently. âHere let me go get you some clothes and a blanket.â
You walked away for a moment, leaving Rafe standing in your doorway. You gathered a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie that belonged to your brother. He wasnât here, he wouldnât mind. You snatched your fuzzy blanket from your bed, scurrying back to where Rafe stood waiting. You passed him the clothes, offering him to go change.
As he took his time, you put a kettle of water on the stove. Opening your white cabinets, you rummaged through the various flavours of tea you had. You settled on chamomile. You knew Rafe liked it, even though he would never admit it to literally anyone else. You grabbed 2 mugs and placed the tea bags inside as the kettle began whistling.
You took the two steaming mugs out to the coffee table, where Rafe sat on the couch, waiting for you.
âHere,â you muttered, handing him the mug. You grabbed the blanket, placing it across his lap. âThat should warm you up.â
âThank you,â he said softly, gentle eyes looking up at you.
You sat down beside him, tucking your legs up on the couch. You both sat in silence for a moment, sipping your tea. He let out a small sigh after his first sip, a little smile tugging at his lips.
âMy favorite,â he whispered. You responded with a nod.
âYou take such good care of me,â he said, breaking the silence more. âI donât deserve it.â
âRafe,â you sighed.
He shook his head, not wanting you to deny the truth. He didnât want you to tell him that he deserved it when he knew it wasnât true. You were consistently there for him, exuding a kindness heâd never felt. Yet what did he do in return? Essentially tell you heâs embarrassed about your relationship. It was ridiculous, and you shouldnât be nice to him.
âCome here,â you whispered, opening your arms to him.
His eyes welled up with tears, and he leaned over, resting his head on your lap. You tugged the blanket up slightly higher, covering his torso. You ran your hands through his hair and down his back, feeling the tension release from his body.
Unexpectedly, the tears continued to fall harder. Rafeâs breath caught in his throat as he heaved out a sob.
âYouâre okay,â you cooed. âIâm here.â
He let out all the emotions he had been trained to hold back. Grown men didnât cry. Strong men didnât cry. This is what he was told over and over. No one ever let him express himself freely, or show vulnerability. For some reason, he felt safe to show it around you. Confident that you didnât judge him, or view him as weak.
He didnât realize how much he was craving to just be held. To have his hair played with, his back scratched. To be told itâs okay. He couldnât remember a time when someone treated him so gently. He wondered if his mom was the last person who truly took care of him. Now, he felt responsible to take care of people around him most of the time.
âTalk to me,â you said. âWhat happened?â
âMy dad,â he blurted out. He rubbed the tears from his eyes, taking a deep breath as he tried to compose himself. âWe got into a fight, as always. I accused him ofâŠof killing my mom.â
âWhat?â you asked, unable to hide the shock in your voice. âDo you really thinkâŠâ
âI donât know,â he admitted. âI was too young, but sometimes what he says just doesnât add up. Doesnât matter anyway, not like anything would happen to him.â
You nodded silently, knowing he was right. Even if Ward had killed her, no justice would be had. You knew Rafe grappled with the loss of his mom. Rose wasnât exactly a replacement. She was cold, unkind. Rafe was in a constant battle with Ward. Trying to impress him, get his validation. Rafe grew up wanting his dadâs success, but most of all he just wanted his love. His acceptance. He didnât think he would ever have a real family. That possibility only came into view when he met you.
âIâm so sorry, Rafe,â you consoled him. âI know how tense things can get with your dad. My arms are always open if you need a break, or need to talk.â
He sat up from your lap, facing you. His eyes were bloodshot from his previous tears. His usually hard features had softened, his eyes still carrying a deep sadness that you knew you couldnât fix.
âIâm going to tell everyone weâre together,â he told you. âYouâreâŠyouâre perfect. You donât deserve to be hidden. I donât deserve you in general.â
âItâs okay,â you whispered. âWhen youâre ready.â
âIâm ready,â he nodded. âI thinkâŠI think youâre the only person who actually cares about me. Who listens andâŠsees me.â
Your eyes welled up slightly. You werenât expecting Rafe to say something so vulnerable like this. His rough edges were beginning to soften around you.
âI see you, Rafe,â you told him. You reached out and cupped the side of his face, brushing your thumb along his cheekbone.
He leaned forward, his warm lips crashing onto yours. The kiss was desperate, yet gentle. You didnât realize how much you had missed this. When you pulled away, Rafeâs eyes were glistening once more.
âEveryone in my life leaves, or screws me over,â he told you, repeating his previous thoughts. âPlease donât leave me.â
You pulled him towards you, wrapping your arms around him. He melted into your touch, safety and warmth encompassing his entire being.
âIâm here, Rafe,â you whispered. âIâm not going anywhere.â
You heard his stomach gurgle, making you let out a quiet chuckle. âHungry?â
He nodded into the crook of your shoulder. You laughed once more as he pulled back, a smirk on his face.
âLet me make you something,â you told him. You planted a kiss on his cheek before standing up, placing the blanket over his carefully. âYou just sit here and relax, okay?â
âI love when you take care of me, baby,â he murmured as he rested his head on the arm of the couch.
You smiled down at him before going into the kitchen to make him some food. He felt safe with you. You had to admit that your heart soared at the thought that you were the first person he came to after a fight with his dad. The first person he opened up to about his mom, to try in front of.
You didnât even realize it would always be you. You would always be the first person he would run to, even in a crowded room.

âïœĄïŸIn their love, they bloom like a dark rose, its thorns only striking those who try to escape. ïŸïœĄâ
â Vi, Caitlyn, Sevika, and Jinx.
VI.
Vi would do anything to protect you, but her obsession consumes her, driving her to see threats in every corner, even where none exist. In her mind, danger lurks in the shadows, always watching, and you are the only one who can escape this threat... even if it isnât real.
Her irritable nature compels her to act impulsively, before her mind has the chance to halt the torrent of emotions. She doesnât hesitate to confront anyone, even if they are just a stranger who has approached you out of curiosity, convincing herself that anyone who crosses your path is a danger, no matter how harmless they seem.
Vi clings to her justification, arguing that her control is merely an expression of love, that everything she does is for your own good. But beneath those words lies a dark echo, as if she cannot fathom a world where you donât need her, where her influence is not vital to your survival.
Her gestures of affection, far from being tender, are invasive and violent. Her hugs, excessive and tight, feel as if she could crush you. The words she whispers in your ear, filled with intensity, steal the air between you, with a fervor bordering on obsession, as if sheâs marking you, immortalizing you in her world, only for herself.
Though her exterior is one of hardness, beneath that mask beats a deep fear: the fear of losing you. She knows that without you, her world would crumble, empty, incomplete. âIf you donât want me near, just tell me⊠but donât expect me to stand idly by while someone tries to take away the only thing that gives my life meaning.â
CAITLYN.
Caitlyn becomes ensnared in her own whirlwind of thoughts, convinced that her obsessive love is the only thing capable of offering you the care you deserve. She sees herself as the only one who can truly understand and protect you, regardless of the boundaries she must cross to keep you by her side.
With a sharp, calculating mind, Caitlyn weaves invisible threads around your life, orchestrating every detail so subtly that you're barely aware of her control. From the people you allow into your circle to the places you step foot in, everything is meticulously designed to keep you under her sway.
Using her charm, Caitlyn spins a web of carefully chosen words, manipulating your perception with a smile that conceals the darkness lurking inside her. She has no qualms about distorting the truth, lying, and creating parallel realities, all to ensure you remain bound to her, oblivious to the trap you've fallen into.
Her control over you goes beyond the physical; Caitlyn becomes an emotional necessity, feeding your dependency with gestures that seem loving but are, in reality, invisible chains. She makes you feel as though you cannot breathe without her presence, turning herself into an irreplaceable part of your life, a constant shadow you cannot escape.
Anyone who dares to get close is seen as an immediate threat, and Caitlyn doesnât need to resort to open violence. Her deadliest weapon is her influence, capable of destroying slowly, without anyone suspecting a thing. "Why waste time with them, darling? Iâll handle everything. Itâs much better if you follow my suggestions; I promise everything will be fine."
SEVIKA.
Sevika sees you as hersâlike a treasure no one else deserves to touch. Her obsession is a dangerous blend of control and overbearing protection. Should anyone dare to put you in harm's way, she will become the shadow that eliminates any threat, without remorse and with brutal precision.
Any intruder who gets too close will be stopped by her mere presence. The intensity of her gaze and the unyielding strength of her stance instill terror in even the bravest hearts. She needs no words: her silence is a warning, and her actions, the verdict.
Believing the world is a deadly trap for you, she begins to build a cage of isolation. Every argument she makes is wrapped in false sweetness: "Itâs for your own good, trust me," while the chains of her obsession tighten a little more with each passing day.
Flowers and sweet words are not her style, but her actions speak louder than anything. The moment she senses youâre in danger, she will unleash an inhuman fury, showing just how far sheâs willing to go to protect you.
Her emotions are a storm hidden beneath a mask of cold serenity. Every action is calculated, every decision made with precision. "I donât need to shout to show you how much I love you. You see it in what I do, don't you?" she murmurs, her voice calm yet carrying a weight that leaves no doubt about the intensity of her devotion.
JINX.
Jinx would always watch you with eyes filled with obsession, as if you were her precious toy, meant only for her. Her love is no simple feeling: itâs a wild, unpredictable whirlwind, packed with emotional explosions and flashes of madness. She cannot stand anyone else getting your attention, and her âjokesâ toward those who dare to come close often end in a macabre, lethal spectacle of destruction.
Within her chaos lies a desperate search for stability, and you are her anchor, but always on her terms. Trying to pull away or challenge her twisted world only triggers a collapse in her mind and a violent need to reaffirm her control over you.
Her love manifests in disturbingly creative forms: bombs adorned with hearts, explosive devices bearing your name, or "trophies" taken from those she deems rivals. Each one is a sickening declaration of how deep and dangerous her affection runs.
Her greatest fear is abandonment, trapped in the loneliness that haunts her. If she senses even the slightest hint that you might leave, sheâll do the unthinkable to make sure you stay by her side. It doesnât matter if she has to chain youâliterally or figuratively; in her mind, the end always justifies the means.
Jinx wonât hesitate to destroyâeven herselfâto keep you close. Her desperation drives her to dark extremes, hurting others or putting her own body at risk. âDo you see this? I did it for you. Now you canât deny how much I care. Youâre not going anywhere, are you?â

wc. 7k+
rayray yaps. popping my vi!oneshot cherry, hehe, and i'm happy to do so. the vi brainrot has been real as fuck lately. i fear it's not going away anytime soon. but i wanted to give a special shoutout to @hypnagogics for proofreading this fic, means sm to me ily + my sweet bubba, @absfawn for the title name, i could kiss you until my lips fall off. the best people ever, i love them so much. okay, now i have yapped enough! happy reading, hope you enjoy.
Trapped in the abyss, just when everything had been taken from her life seems to sacrifice another offering on a silver platter. Something else that she thought could be hers, but wasnât. In the end, all of it was the same. Life is the same. She takes three steps forward, circumstances out of her control take her apart like enforcers imposing their will on Zaun, and sheâs forced to move five steps back. Itâs all she feels, powerless.Â
Wanting nothing more than to drown her sorrows, forget all that she's lost. For everything thatâs been taken, Vi feels an overpowering loss, threatening to take over everything sheâs trying to build. But Vi thinks of none of it now, she canât afford to think of one more thing. So, she doesnât. All of her mind forgets. She forces herself to.Â
Zaun, Piltover, Jinx, Vander, Silco, and Cait.Â
She drowns in blood, sweat, and liquor for nights to come. She forgets everything and you are just the cherry top on this one shitty sundae. Anytime sheâs here, Vi manages to get herself into a fight. Each time. Every time she tries to apologize or hold an ounce of guilt in her eyes, you see right through her crystal blues. From the very first night, you called her bullshit. Even if Vi didnât give in, it was hard to hide her small smirk.Â
She lets herself think itâs because youâre a bartender. You practically get paid to read people, listen to them vent about shit you probably donât give two shits about and break up the fights that erupt every thirty minutes. Overinflated egos and drunken assholes werenât a great mix. The jury was still out if you though Vi was one. She could have both, she didnât really talk much. Vi fought, drank until she couldnât see straight, and you helped her up to her small apartment right across the street and up the steps into her said apartment.Â
No matter how hard she tries, it always ends the same. Vi looking like an imbecile and you, the pretty bartender who shuts down every advance she throws your way. Vi wonders who had a stronger shell, what youâre hiding in order to protect yourself.Â
Maybe she is just an asshole.Â
âYou donât have to walk me up here. I-I can make it just fine on my own.âÂ
As soon as your fingertips let go of her fragile frame, Viâs inebriated body collapses on the concrete steps, grabbing onto the metal framing as if her life depends on it.Â
âReally? Now you wanna prove a point?âÂ
âFor your information, Iâm always in it to prove a point.âÂ
Even if your words are harsh, with a soft smile and a hand open, Vi takes it as you let her lean on your weight as you assist her up the steps. Thereâs little shame to be had once the two of you make it in. It isnât like the first time and when she noticed the scrunch of your nose in taking the smell, tequila and grease. Vi thought it was cute but she halts any further thought.Â
Quickly, Vi disposed of her leather jacket and pants sheâs left in boxers and the wrap protecting her chest. The part of her life that seems to be kept together. She doesnât really mind it though, you. Seeing her like this. Even more so, she enjoys it. Youâre always so dismissive at the bar, hardly holding eye contact, turning down any flirting she hurls your way. Just like the vomit Vi had nearly thrown up on your shoes but made a quick diversion for the bush to the right of her instead.Â
This is truly the only time she knows you want her. Not so subtly, your eyes trace her like each pinpoint of your gaze is painting her on a clean canvas, one Vi wonders if sheâll like or not. When sheâs been around you, sheâs been wondering about a lot of things â thoughts she quite literally canât afford.Â
Itâs her, nothing ever ends well when her feelings can get crushed on the other side.Â
Everything she touches burns to ash before she can even hold it for a moment, a second of symphony retaliates with years of misery. How could you be any different? She wishes you would burn her underneath your gaze, put her out of the misery she feels growing every day, but you donât. Youâre always pulling her out of trouble when you truly donât have to. Itâs not your job to take care of her or hell, even look after her.Â
But you do and she canât seem to figure out why.Â
âWhy are you doing this?âÂ
âJust shut the fuck up and let me help you. Not everyone has a motive. Some people just like to help when someone is so clearly struggling.âÂ
âIâm notââÂ
You give her a glare that seems to shut her up. You draw a bath for her. Itâs easy to find her towels in the only cabinet. Itâs an acute studio apartment. More so of a small room with a stove stop, minimal counter space, and one bathroom enough to bathe and brush her teeth in. There isnât much left of it but itâs hers. Grabbing the first aid kit, you kneel between her legs, the mattress sits on the floor, her legs spread and stretching out in front of you.Â
âLet me help you. Alright?â Vi grumbles, a incoherent complaint, but she lets you tend to her wounds.Â
Itâs mainly just cleaning off her dry blood as she still complains in the process, but thereâs a few cuts on her face and her cheeks are already beginning to bruise. Itâs not a secret, she bruises like a peach but she always makes sure her opponent is leaving a lot more with just a few cuts and a bruise the size of a plum.Â
Itâs then, when youâre concentrating on the cuts on her face, the busted lip sheâs sporting; she looks at you. Maybe itâs the first time she has, but without even realizing it, she gets lost. Not in the way Vi doesnât know who she is, that sheâs completely lost on, but Vi sees you.Â
Bright-eyed, optimistic, helpful, kind â all attributes she couldnât claim but wears like a badge of honor. As if helping others instills you with a sense of purpose, something thatâs always been a lost cause to her. Fight until the next fight, and the next, and the next. Thatâs what sheâs done, she's always been a fighter. Sheâs fallen back on it when needed. Itâs clear to her. Like a vision she could see, crystal clear through some stupid ball, itâs always been about survival.Â
But how much longer does she want to fight and how much more does she have in her?Â
âThanks.â Vi speaks softly.Â
Not knowing where to place her palms, she settles for her thigh. Silent as she watches, nearly analyzing every moment, every glance, every little thing youâre doing. Itâs sobering to say the least. You donât need to be delicate but you are. Itâs more kindness than she deserves, nearly leaving a bitter taste on her tongue but when you offer a small smile and a soft whisper, youâre welcome.Â
Itâs the sweetest thing Vi has ever seen.Â
Thereâs something different in the way you look at her. The soft omission exposes how sweet on Vi you may be. Definitely more than youâd let on, which was wellâŠnone. Up until tonight, she thought you hated her. With each word uttered in your direction, Vi assumed youâd rather swallow bile than stomach her slurred, flirty speech.Â
âWhy do you want to help? Itâs not like Iâve exactly beenââÂ
âKind?âÂ
âYeah, something like that.âÂ
This time Vi lets the smile reach her eyes and your smile gets even sweeter. She can practically feel the sweetness rotting her teeth as she speaks. Itâs the first time she feels something new, something as bright as the light radiating through your eyes.Â
âYou just seem different. Even if you do try to hide it.âÂ
With a flush of crimson coating the apple of her cheeks, sheâs never been quite as exposed as this. The next few weeks are spent with less drinking, but Vi frequents the bar just as much as she did before. She orders a few pints just to talk to you. Sheâs learning more about you, slowly but surely, youâre opening up more. Divulging information you wouldnât have before, trust is earned. Itâs something you told her the first night you met and to this day, Vi still remembers it.Â
Regardless of how drunk sheâd been when you said it.Â
Itâs a typical night. Vi flirted with you but you arenât being dismissive tonight but youâre careful enough to not let her know exactly how you feel. Everything you say is guarded enough you keep her on her toes, for a moment she thinks she might have to become a ballerina. Itâs a slow night, Wednesday. Go figure Vi thinks. There was a woman whoâd also been flirting with you all night. Vi thought she was beautiful, sweet, funnyâŠcertainly was making you laugh all night.Â
Part of Vi wanted to feel jealous but it feels too good hearing you laugh, she says nothing. Maybe you just donât like women. Vi was known for reading into things too much, thinking everyone thought with their heart first just like she did, and assuming every hot and attractive woman was into other women â just like she is.Â
But the brunette left before closing, leaving Vi and a few other regulars paying their tab as they stumbled home with a belly full of liquor of their choosing.Â
âAlright Vi, donât you have somewhere to be? Maybe getting some sleep for the night?âÂ
âI donât sleep much, itâs better if I donât.âÂ
âKeeps the nightmares away.âÂ
All Vi does is nod.Â
âStory of the century.â You take Viâs empty pint before washing it dispersing in the sink before cleaning up the remainder of the bar top. âEveryoneâs got one around here and the new one is usually even more depressing than the last.âÂ
âWhat about yours?âÂ
âIf you wanna hear that, Iâll have to be the one doing the drinking.â You smile but itâs the first one Vi recognizes as insincere.Â
âYeah, seems to be the stone cold requirement for a heart to heart.âÂ
Viâs silent as you vent to her about the customer who refused to pay up tonight until you threatened to kick his ass and that wasn't enough, you threatened Letty on him. Vi found herself only slightly entranced as you spoke with such color, your animated voice doing impressions of the stubborn patreon, moving your hands as you speak, eyebrows furrowed as you finished the story.Â
Youâre done cleaning and are ready to close by the time you finish, locking the door as Vi stuffs her hands in her pockets, âCan I ask you something?âÂ
You cling to your bag like a lifeline. Vi notices how tight your grip is on the strap, almost as if youâre afraid. Of what? She has a craving to find out. âWhyâd you turn her away? She seemed plenty interested. Not your type?âÂ
You take a step forward, just as close as the last time you were in her apartment, tending to wounds she wouldnât have really cared about but still she let you clean them.Â
You didnât have to know that. Not yet, anyway.Â
âNo, not really. I like my women a little rough around the edges, stumbling out of bars so wasted they canât even walk home by themselves.â You smirk, grabbing the lapel of her leather jacket as you tug her closer to you. âOr is that what you want me to say?âÂ
âIs it true?âÂ
You both know the hope in her eyes is dangerous.Â
Hope.Â
A foreign concept in Zaun. If you get too close to the flame, youâll get burned, dusting into ash as if you never existed. Itâs what shimmer did to people, wipe them off the map until they reformed into a shell of what they used to be. You didnât just get out of a place like this, not without some help. Vi could barely even help herself.Â
The both of you know itâs a bad idea. A terrible, god awful idea, but you still move in closer to her. Vi notices and she wipes the smirk off her face, your warm hands finding purchase on her exposed hips, drawing soft circles on her hip bones. She likes it, even when her heart feels torn from being blown to bits by a certain blue-eyed beauty.Â
Vi likes you.Â
âYour skin is softer than I thought it would be, smooth like pure silk. Not that Iâve ever touched it before but Iâve got to believe it would feel a lot like this.âÂ
Vi feels a tingle up her spin, your touch is overwhelming, more than she bargained for really. A stumbling, messy kiss is all she really expected if anything. Not this. Clearly, you knew what to do. Leaving Vi a little clueless in that department, sheâs knocked off her feet once again but this time in a way she wants to be. But actually bringing something this special to anything more than a few flirty quips? It never seems to be her strong suit.Â
So, she puts her best foot forward. Her big stupid mouth, one she can never quite fully silence. âI can guarantee my lips feel a lot softer.âÂ
âViââ You speak her name like a warning, an unspoken law youâre breaking by entertaining your feelings and the bubbling sentiments you hold for her close to your heart. You know better than to keep it so close, but the halo in her eyes blinds you to reason and you let it.Â
âItâs Violet but you can call me whatever you want, sweets.âÂ
You chuckle at the pet name.Â
âJust one night. Thatâs it. Just to get it out of our system.âÂ
âOne night, sweets. Itâs all I need.âÂ
âÂ
Itâs how you ended up here, the third night in a row since the first, trapped under the web of Vi and her eager mouth. Slender, perfectly sculpted fingers feel like a hex to your cunt, every moment causing you to fall further into her spell. To say she has a certain talent would be considered an understatement. Itâs clear Viâs enjoying herself, fuck, damn near suffocates herself in your weeping cunt. Last night wasnât nearly enough, she needs to have you, again. Not that you were complaining.Â
As much as you hate to admit it, there has been no one as generous as her. As good as her, as sweet, as kind, and she did whatever the hell you asked for. Nothing has beaten the first night, her thumping clit nudging against your as she hiked one of your legs over her toned shoulders.Â
Itâs not a secret how built she is, far from it, but itâs another thing entirely to watch her flexed bicep ripple with every grind of her hips. Each movement seems to be calculated with precision, focused on doing more than just making herself feel good. With pure determination, glazed over crystal blue eyes, and a pouty scarred lip, she makes sure youâre enjoying this as much as her. With each moan you let slip, her confidence only grows until sheâs commanded full control over you. She takes what she wants from you and in return youâre seeing stars behind your eyes, constellations created in the shape of her name as you come.Â
âThatâs it pretty girl, just for me, yeah?â Vi talks you through as she works you through your orgasm with her strong hips, not stopping even after youâve cum. She wants more and Vi pulls three more orgasms out of you before sheâs done for the night. You expected her to be good. There was no shocker there but you didnât expect her to be so sweet afterwards. Vi is a drunk, an addict, whether she wants to accept it or not. You could be just another object sheâs addicted to. Somehow, you convince yourself itâs just a one time thing. It doesnât mean anything, it wonât.Â
Truthfully it feels much more than just a one night stand, more than an itch being scratched â the blossoming ache in your soul feels tethered to your heart every time Vi makes you feel an ounce of love â even when she tries to hide it behind a wall. Whether youâre aware, the wall canât seem to stop crumbling. Brick by brick, itâs coming undone just as you have. Weak-willed and with purpose, you fall into her.Â
There isnât an inch of your body Vi didnât kiss. Her lips tattooing every inch of your skin with marked affection, almost as if sheâs mending your skin with the burn of her lips. When she claims your soft lips, haunting you with the salvation of perfection as her velvet tongue invades your mouth, the taste of you melting from her tongue to yours. The silent declaration you didnât ask for but craved, the carnal moan leaving her mouth as she chuckles when your hips pathetically grind into hers.Â
Vi enjoys your company, that much is clear, but this time you bring her to your place. Itâs more or less the same. Both of you coming down from the highest of highs, you feel sticky, dirty, and damn right heavenly. Vi disappears into your bathroom, grabbing a wash rag before dampening the material underneath a warm faucet. Carefully, she kneels by your hips, legs twitching softly as her skilled fingers find your slit before Viâs sucking the digit in your mouth.Â
âI just wanted one last taste before I clean you up.âÂ
As she has before, Vi makes good on her promise and cleans you up. She enjoys when the pad of her thumb grazes against your clit, terribly overstimulated, your stomach twitches. All Vi can do is chuckle.Â
âIâm just a littleââÂ
âSensitive?â Vi smirks as you hide your face in the palm of her hands, the pad of her thumb gently caressing your skin. Â
Itâs the lightest sheâs felt in weeks. Almost as if sheâs floating on a cloud, she wants to stay up there in the cloudiest of nines. Just you and her and an aging mattress as she offers you everything she can give. Albeit, it isnât much but sheâll still freely give.Â
Like a dog with a bone, Vi corners you on the third night when itâs just you and her in the bar. Closing time has long since arrived and vanished into the crisp air of the night but Vi has you bent over the bar, desperation clawing at the weathered countertop of the bar as Viâs fingers fucks your pretty little hole while her tongue laps at the slick thatâs dripping out of you. Your pretty little skirt pushed up, your panties pushed to the side as she laps and sucks at your juices. She can feel you dripping onto her chin and it only makes her that much more eager to swallow every bit you have to offer.Â
âWe shouldnât be doing thisââ Fuck. Vi starts doing tricks with her tongue, sliding in another finger, pushing against the soft spot buried deep as she toys with you in the way knows best. âWe, um, Vi we said just one night.âÂ
âShut the fuck up and take it like a good girl. Or did you forget?â Vi moans into your cunt, the vibrations causing your thighs to shake under her mouth. âItâs not like you were complaining last night.âÂ
Vi silences you as her pace picks up, her fingers fucking you at such a pretty pace, feeling the build grow in the pit of your stomach edging to come to a full bloom.Â
All of you begging for it to be released. Vi uses her free hand to slap your ass, sending you moaning and lurching forward. You push yourself back grinding against her tongue, before she removes her divine mouth as she kisses up your spine, her fingers stuffed inside you not faltering for a moment.Â
Vi continues to kiss up your spine until she reaches the nape of your neck, her breath kissing your skin, your body shivers into her touch. Full lips ghost over your ear before whispering quietly, âAre you sure you want me to stop? I will if you want me to. I just thought you might wanna, you know, take my cock tonight. Give it a good ride.âÂ
The moan you let out would put Aphroditeâs to shame, needy and choked sobs escape you as her fingers thrust inside you faster than they have before.Â
âOh? Do you like the sound of that, babygirl? Want to show me how good you can be for me?â Vi doubled down on her efforts, enjoying how much you arched into her body, your hips pushing back as you grind into quick fingers. Sheâs fucking you better than wellâŠanyone.Â
âVi, please.â Your voice catches in your throat, hoarse and full of need. An insatiable craving; one you fear only she can provide. A few mindless days and careless flirting to land in her sheets, her in yours, the details didnât truly matter. A vampire out for blood, almost more venomous than precious canines breaking the skin, you yearned to suck on every last drop. But she didnât seem to be in a mind frame to relinquish control.Â
âPlease what? Iâm not sure if I understand you.âÂ
All of it, so tantalizing, so fucking infuriating. Three fingers inside you, effectively making you silent, shutting you up as she brings you closer to the edge. Thatâs the thing, truthfully, Vi has you right where she wants. Only a few thrusts away until you come undone around her. The black haired succubus increases the pace, thumb playing with your clit, her calloused fingers increasing your high as she applies more pressure on the thousands of nerve endings on your precious pearl.Â
âShit. Youâre gonna pay for this.âÂ
âWhat? For making you come? I hardly constitute that as a crime.âÂ
Your hands reach for the counter top, youâre not sure what exactly you want, but Vi makes you come for the first time that night. Itâs a game, the push and pull. Dangerous. Intoxicating. Some disposition falling far from your fingertips, a game to her and a downward hill spiral for you. Addiction festering next to an open wound and the only antidote can be found on her tongue. Tasting the devilâs mouth is one thing but swallowing the sensation of the woman youâre beginning to love is something else entirely.Â
Vi, despite her best efforts not to, makes you fall over the edge. Itâs more than her eager tongue and expectant mouth slurping at the vindication of your taste. The craving builds like an exposed vein. Her confidence irrevocably soars like a raven through the midnight sky. Even if Vi acts like sheâs done this before, you could pull the curiosity intertwined with naivety a mile away. Violet has never done this before, not with a woman at least, youâre sure of it. Sheâs a fast learner and such a great accomplishment should replenish such a reward.Â
With the energy you have left, you push your skirt down first, as Vi puts your underwear back in place. She doesnât stop touching you. She canât. There isnât much she feels she has control over, this arrangement being one of them. Sheâs good at this and Vi enjoys it. Every other part of her life, failure surrounds her, her ability not to please anyone in her life.Â
In a constant loop, she finds herself caught in the crossfire. Tugged between sister and lover, family and righteousness. Her enemy becomes her lover and lover becomes enemy â all of it poisons her blood and cures her core â and all of it makes her hear a voice she doesnât recognize but itâs just as true as the four walls surrounding her.Â
Oil and water.Â
Collecting like scars on her porcelain skin, Vi feels herself sink like an obliterating star. Thereâs a wonder settled in her chest, it feels heavy and weak, two incapable fists unable to surround her heart with anything but loss, betrayal even. She canât punch her way out of this one.
All of it wakes a fire in her chest, a dagger being punctured in her heart by the one Vi thought she could trust the most. She doesnât want to admit it so she doesnât.Â
But this? It feels easy.Â
She needs easy, light, even good. Maybe she doesnât deserve it.Â
Vi definitely doesnât, the sentence flows like a never-ending stream of waterfall continuously drowning her. The blood on her hands stains her perception of all things pure, she wonders how she even sees you at all. How you see her more vividly than anyone, possibly even Cait. Thereâs no judgment, no snarky remark of where she comes from. Even if she thought there had once been love, Vi questions it now.Â
When you come, it feels like a breath of fresh air, a golden wave washing over her sinful hands. Each stroke of gold, your grit and blind hopefulness soaks Viâs entity. This is what she wants. Thereâs nothing more than this, someone she could love, who loves her. Itâs uncomplicated but the feeling flees as you come to it. Vi canât help but feel regretful as you cover your ass, itâs such a pretty sight. She canât stop that sheâs greedy, youâve fed her for the first time in her life and now Vi feels full but sheâs only human.Â
A sinner always craves more.Â
She lets her touch linger on the gold between your thighs, pushing the white substance back into you before Vi lets you feel how wet you are, the dripping slick feels uncomfortable caged into cotton underwear and she wants you to feel it. The breath Vi hears are still heavy, impossibly heavy, and thereâs pride in hearing you center yourself, back pressed against her chest as Vi keeps you in place.Â
The pleasure within your body begins to slither away as you come back into the angel you are and not the sexual deviant bent over the woman who never pulls her punches.Â
âFelt good, yeah?â Vi says. Her angelic, sweeter than the cotton candy stick in your teeth, voice penetrates through. You like it too much. It shouldnât make you feel as good as it does. Desperately, you want to keep this casual but youâre even losing your footing.Â
You pride yourself on the lack of attachment; you donât need it. Never really had. But then with her it seems to change even faster than the seasons, your wall breaks somehow in between from spring to summer. With intent, you move around, her bright eyes have darken a bit but the fading light looks brighter than youâve ever seen it.Â
Fuck, Vi is making this difficult.Â
âYou could say that.â You speak softly, a tremble in your voice occurs but Vi says nothing but she does smirk. âCan I ask you something?âÂ
You turn around and suddenly Vi is staring at your exposed cleavage, the one you use to draw in patreons and to fill your pockets with as many tips as one can muster. Vi had been one, a faithful one trying to drink her away to the bottom of every bottle until she found something else for her. Something that didnât leave a burn in her throat.Â
âWhat is it?âÂ
âWas it your first time? The first night?âÂ
Sheepishly, Vi blushes. For a second, she contemplates lying but youâd see right through it. Right through her. It would only take one look in her blues and you would know.Â
âThat obvious?â Vi struggles with her words next but she manages to murmur a lame excuse. âStillwater didnât leave much time for this.âÂ
âAnd after?â You tease but the sincerity in your eyes soothes her.Â
âThere could have been but there wasnât. Some things just donât fit.â Oil and water is what she wants to say but she bites her tongue.Â
âYou should have told me. I wouldnât have been so, I donât know, selfish?âÂ
âThereâs nothing selfish about it. I wanted to make you feel good. Did you enjoy yourself?â This time she makes your skin feel hot. Fuck.Â
âYeah, I did enjoy myself,â you pressed against her as your arms loop around Viâs necks to bring her closer âbut I think itâs officially my turn to offer my services. Donât you think so?âÂ
Itâs how Vi ends up here, in your place, in your bed â soaked.Â
If there was one thing you knew, it was how to please someone. You managed to pull whimpers out of her she didnât even know existed. The desperate plea coming from her shivering body as she spilled in your mouth the first time sent a shiver down her spine, the band in her stomach snapping as you sloppily spit on her cunt, constant circles of pressure on her clit seeing nothing but your eyes look up at her.Â
Not letting a single drop go to waste, you fucked Vi through it, swallowing her completely. Vi shed the wrap covering her chest next. Her body bruised from the pit fights but you couldnât think of anyone more beautiful than her. You paid attention to her collarbones, neck, and her tits. Sucking on her nipples as Vi tries to come down from the high you placed her on, she doesnât think she ever will.Â
She tries not to think that she wanted these things with Caitlyn. Cait. Cupcake.Â
Vi only allows herself to think of her when sheâs dreaming, visions of what that could have been, what she used to be. All of it so trivial, so senseless when she thinks of you. How you make her feel is different and she tries not to think of what it all means.Â
One night.Â
Then two.Â
Now three.Â
In another life, maybe she was stronger, and didn't need to be wanted. Hell, even needed. She could wait for someone who she thought loves her but the other part of her doesnât want to think, she wants to feel. Vi likes feeling the softness of your skin, the light in your laughter, the swell of your exposed chest, the way your greedy eyes take in her abs, your soft lips kissing every part of her skin. The smooth, the scarred, the unworthy â you take it all in such stride.Â
âDo you want to stop? I think I lost you for a second.â You inquire to the pretty girl beneath you, her hands find your waist, creating makeshift circles on your hip bones.Â
âNo, thatâs the last thing I want.â Vi brings you to her lips, capturing your bottom lip, tongue invading your mouth. She tastes herself as your tongue melts with hers and the rest of her worries melt away. Itâs just you and her. âI want to keep going.âÂ
âThen tell me what you want, baby. Iâll do whatever you want. Itâs yours if you want it.âÂ
Itâs spoken as a reminder. All of this is her decision. Vi decides when she wants this, how she wants it, and youâre letting her take all of it in the way she needs. Vi tried not to think the first couple times, she never wanted her first time to be a big deal. Maybe with Caitlyn it could have been, but then she changed.Â
Vi thought maybe she could too. So, she did.Â
âCan youââ Vi stutters. Yet again her attention gets pulled to your tits, the softness of your stomach, she canât stop looking at you. As if sheâs trying to remember everything about you. Sheâs committed to it. Vi wants to remember the soft curves of your hips, the way you moan when she comes on your tongue.Â
The sight of you looking down at her makes she lose every rational thought, she wants to commit to memory forever. It wonât be something she easily forgets.Â
âGotta speak up, babygirl. Especially if you want me to keep my attention focused on this pretty cunt of yours.âÂ
You sit between her legs, tilting your head, you look at her glistening pussy, the way it shines with her cum and your sloppy spit. It would look even more exquisite with a little more. Taking a beat as you take your time, you gather enough in your mouth before spitting slowly, Vi whimpering as your spit makes contact with her lower pair of lips. She couldnât stop it, it slips and youâre grinning, hips desperately bucking to feel more of it.Â
âF-Fuck, need your cock. Please? I need it more than anything.â Vi confesses. Thereâs no need for dignity, especially if she keeps it and you wonât give her what sheâs itching for.Â
âYeah? Are you sure about it? Donât want you backing out just in case you canât be a good girl and take it.âÂ
She can take it but she canât take the countless teasing, trapped underneath the images drowning in her mind. This is what she wants, someone to dissolve into her, make her forget everything that has happened, just a pretty girl with some pretty tits who knows how to fuck. Right? Thatâs all this is. Itâs all it can be tonight. Her lip is busted from the fight tonight, knuckles bloodied and bruised, but you donât seem to mind all that much. Itâs all the same to you. Vi is all the same, thatâs been clear from the start.Â
Then, she decides to let her mind get shut off, let herself fall into you. You did know how to take care of her and tonight she would let you.Â
âLet me know if itâs too much, okay?âÂ
âI promise.âÂ
Once the harness is on, you wedge yourself in between her thighs, tattooed and toned, brave and brawny but she transforms into someone else entirely once youâre sinking inside her warm walls. You think about what it would feel like to feel her. Is she clenching around your cock? Would you feel the throbbing heartbreak of her clit? What you can hear is the whimper, uncontrollable and breathtaking, you slip further into her as you make home in her beautiful cunt.Â
Sheâs made it yours to take. Youâd do anything and everything for her, the thought alone scares so you do what you do best, you grind your hips slowly. Not wanting to overwhelm her too quickly, itâs the first time sheâs taking penetration and you want it to be good for her.Â
âYouâre so perfect. Doing so good for me, taking my cock like a fucking champ.â You whisper out, taking too much enjoyment in her getting lost in your soft thrusts. Viâs chest starts to heave as her hips roll into yours. Vi never even imagined wanting this, or that she could really have it with someone else. Itâs not like sheâs experienced, she has nothing to compare it to, but it feels incredibly intimate.Â
She likes how youâre being with her. Soft, gentle, delicate. Vi thought sheâd never want to feel that way, but maybe itâs just under the right circumstance in the right light.Â
âShit, shit, shitâ Vi chants as your hand grabs the headboard, giving her one particular powerful thrust. Perky tits spring to life, jolting against the sudden movement, her moan so fucking load, as you continue your movements. This time not as hard, but you pick up your pace, wanting to see if she would have any arguments against it but Vi doesnât. Profanities and whimpers leave her mouth as you split her on your cock. Face half-smashed into the pillow, trying to muffle her moans and you offer this one mercy.Â
Sheâs still shy.Â
Now is a good time as any to fuck it out of her.Â
âDo you want more Vi? Want me to goâŠfaster?â Placing a hand on her abdomen, the abs defined and clenching as you halt your thrust for a moment. âDo you wanna feel me in your stomach, baby?âÂ
âCan you even do that? Iâm not so sure youâre even capable. Looks like the rookie knows more moves than the veteran.â Vi bites back. But it doesnât last for long. Vi thinks she must have said the wrong thing, pushed you too far, you slipped off her but only to move her body to the edge of the bed, placing her on all fours right in front of a very convenient mirror.Â
âFine. Thought Iâd be sweet but that isnât what you really want. If you want to get treated like a whore, Iâll fuck you like one.â You take a beat to appreciate her wonderfully sculpted back, the artwork is truly exquisite. It feels so much like her but the foolish girl is smirking at you through the mirror.Â
You know youâve been caught ogling at her body, checking out every inch of her exposed body, you slap her ass in retaliation but she just grinds her ass back onto you.Â
âIâm waiting.â Teasingly, Vi arches her spine more. âWhereâs the whore fucking youâre muling about?âÂ
In one move, youâre inside her, fucking her beautiful face into the mattress. Never in her life has she felt so full, so good, so sweet. You grab her by the meat of her hips, bringing you back on her repeatedly. Vi wonders what she would give to have this, have you, and the thought scares her just as badly. She instead focused on you.Â
Tits bouncing as you thrust into her at a punishing pace. Divinely and so perfectly you, making her see stars, she feels trapped. Not in a punishing way, but in a way that has her never wanting to leave the entrapments of your coaxing cock. At this moment, this is where sheâs meant to be, just a toy for you to use.Â
But itâs more than what meets the eye. If Vi was just a toy, youâd be done after the first night. Tonight, you werenât using her for your own pleasure. You seemed perfectly content to give. The shine in her eyes gave you something only she could, edging you even further, a constant wave hitting Vi like a tidal wave making home on the shore.Â
âGod, youâre just too perfect. Fuck, just like that, take whatâs yours.â Bouncing back on the strap, the words fall from her lips before she canât stop them. Overflowing like a water fountain, itâs before she really even realizes what sheâs saying, it just feels right.Â
âMommy, please.âÂ
Vi has had those words on the tip of her tongue but not that youâre fucking her into a different dimension, she lets the aching plea slip from sinful lips. Itâs only once but itâs enough to set you off. You pull Vi up, her gorgeous back pressed against your chest, sitting on your thighs as you fuck up into her. Brutally, she takes everything you have to give.Â
Sweat glistening across her body, accentuating her chest as she tries to compose herself but you donât give her the option. No. It would be too easy, wouldnât it?
âI want you to watch, Violet. Watch yourself when you cum, be a good girl and show me how pretty you look, hm? Wouldnât wanna disappoint, Mommy, now would you?âÂ
Vi sucks on your middle digit, tongues swirling as she feels the tight band in her stomach, threatening to snap. Sheâs close. When the sensationally soft pad of your thumb applies pressure on her clit, Viâs done for.Â
âShit, oh my fucking god, baby baby babbyyyyy.â Incoherent murmurs and moans come in abundance as Vi bounces herself your cock, falling right apart as you toy with her clit, fucking her through the impending high. Your other arm tweaks around and up, fingers squeezing her tits, over stimulating her as she slumps against you.Â
Itâs the easiest task ever done. Submit to you, your skilled fingers, the power of your sinfully sensational thrusts, she comes all over you. The powerful demeanor weakens before your very eyes. When you gently move her back on the bed, slipping out of her, Viâs eyes begin to water from the loss.Â
The first time getting strapped down is always a lot to handle, youâd still taken it easier on her, too afraid you would push her too far but by the blissed out eyes, sheâd enjoyed herself. She had enjoyed herself and you couldnât really ask for much more.Â
When the both of you are cleaned up, Vi cuddles into your frame and you let her. Even if your first instinct is to push her away, saying something you know thatâll hurt her, none of it finds any merit on your tongue. For the first time, you find it difficult to turn away a pretty girl, her lips kissing your collarbones, up your neck until she finds home on your own lips, sloppily invading your mouth with your tongue.Â
Hitting you where it hurts, she moans your name in her mouth, unable to contain the neediness she feels around you. Itâs worse than Cait. This is pure addiction entangled with something carnal. Vi knows if she doesnât get to fuck you again, you fucking her cunt again, she might as well give up on life now.Â
âI could go again.âÂ
You chuckle. Of course she could.Â
âDonât know rookie, that might be all you can handle for the night.âÂ
Itâs a challenge and you know sheâll bite the bait.Â
With ease she gets on top of you, and just as if sheâs done it a hundred times, Vi sinks on your cock, âI think I can handle another ride, donât you?âÂ

âïž scared freshmen chan x reader.
prompt: "helping a scared freshman despite also being a scared freshman." ⶠpart of my svt university milestone event
‿ fluff, cute & clingy!chan, slice-of-life. more content under the cut. âĄâžâž prompt from @wollycobbl3-blr!
dino's declassified uni survival guide .á
survival guide to: making friends
attend the freshman year orientation event, no matter how lame you think it may be. sit through the whole thing. make small talk with your seatmate. when they assign you a 'buddy', jump at the chance of morally obligated friendship.
fuck trying to be cool and chill. 'be yourself' is painfully cliche advice, but they were on to something. what's the point of trying to act nonchalant or putting your best foot forward? be yourself, and you'll find the people who can appreciate that.
go to the school events. recruitment week? check. pep rally? check. going alone is alright. going with your orientation-sanctioned friend is preferable. the two of you can sit through the whole thing judging other students and making comments about the performances. maybe you can make more friends by chatting up the other students around you, but, honestly? each other is plenty fine.
survival guide to: getting around
have a copy of the school map saved on your phone. keep it in your favorites folder. that way, you don't have to stop at those blown-up maps at every corner or so.
test out the advice of your peers. sometimes, their advice is just a little more reliableâ they're coming from places of experience, after all. take, for example, the recommendations from your orientation buddy. take their suggestions to heart. the cafeteria they think is best, the coffee order they swear by. very serious business.
you'll eventually get a little more familiar with the ins and outs of campus. you'll carve out your own spaces and make your own set of friends. if some people eventually fall out with you, that's fine. if you still take a wrong turn every so often, that's fine, too. keep in touch with the people that you really do like. and don't panic about getting lost. sometimes, taking the wrong turn can lead to some pretty exciting stuff.
survival guide to: ... falling in love?
the turn of feeling something for your first friend at uni isn't exactly what i was referring to, but it is what it is. my initial advice still stands: come as you are. if you've always been a little annoying, if you don't know how to shut up and you're shameless in your affections, then keep that up. why be someone who you're not? what if they fall in love with that charade instead of who you really are?
some differences may be warranted, especially if you want to progress the relationship further. friends to lovers is a little complicated; the lines, tending to blur. flirt. or: attempt to flirt. remind them of how attractive you are. find ways to be around them, whether it's heading out for a beer or 'running' into them after their last class of the day. gifts are okay, but don't overdo it. maybe find some occasion for it, in case they ask why.
it's terrifying. being a freshman. making friends. falling in love [with a friend]. and yet i keep going back to yet another clichĂ©: just because you feel fear, doesn't mean you can't do it. do it afraid. do it scared shitless. walk them home. give them the flowers. package the confession in a joke, if you must, but confess. put your heart in their hands and trust that it will be safe, there. that the gamble will pay off. that youâ maybe, just maybeâ will be loved right back.
survival guide to: dating
tba. i'm still figuring this one out. :-)

Tell me Iâm the only, only, only, only, only one
Pairing: Eris x reader x Azriel | WC: 3.5k | warnings: none
Summary: secrets threaten to swallow you whole as you work up the courage to tell Azriel about being his mate. Unfortunately, you arenât the only one with secrets
Authorâs note: this came from a draft I found BURIED okay I was looking for a different azris x reader draft but found this and had to finish it
Today was the day. Everything lined up - Feyre and Rhys were at the River House hosting an overnight play date for Nyx and one of his friends. Cassian and Nesta had taken some of the Valkyries to Day to see the pegasi. Mor was somewhere on the continent. Amren was likely at her apartment, but she came by less and less frequently these days.
The sun had just set, the night sky bright and endless as it hovered over the House of Wind. You and Azriel had the entire place to yourselves.
It was a sign from the Mother. You had to tell him. You stood before your mirror, wanting every piece of hair to fall perfectly into place. You took a few deep breaths, failing to calm the beating of your heart.
Everything was going to change. You smiled at your reflection, certain that everything will work out. It had to.
So what if Azriel had pined after two females that werenât you? That didnât matter. Not when he was always so kind to you, seeking you out during parties. He always sat next to you at dinner, the two of you fully engaged in conversation the entire time.
His pining toward Mor and then Elain always felt strange to you. It never happened around you, you hardly saw him even glance their way. You only knew about it from Cassianâs love of gossip.
âIt should be you he focuses on - the two of you are so similar. And so annoying.â
His words likely meant nothing to him - especially the end when you had stolen food from his plate. But his words echoed in your mind, echoed around the string nearly suffocating your heart.
The two of you were well suited. You complemented each other. Surely, if he didnât love you now, Azriel could grow to love you. It should be easy.
Would you want someone who had to grow to love you? You shook the thought from your head, certain the Mother wouldnât lead you astray like that.
Your thoughts led you outside his door. The words had laid dormant on your tongue for too long, weeks going by without admitting the truth to him.
You knocked on his door quickly, not wanting nerves to get the better of you. You couldnât help lightly bouncing on your feet as you waited, listening to the shuffles behind the door. Each sound of footfalls made your heart rate quicken.
Azriel poked his head out the door, a small smile when his eyes fell on you.
âSorry to intrude, but can I come in? I want to talk to you about something.â
Surprise at your demand showed on his face, but he opened the door wider, letting you come in. The sight of you in his room wasnât unheard of, but you had never so boldly asked to come in.
You walked through the threshold, noticing immediately a suitcase on his bed, nearly full before his shadows quickly closed and latched the lid.
âAre you going somewhere?â You couldnât stop the question from coming out.
âI was going to take a few days to myself. Enjoy some quiet at my cabin.â
Your heart had been bursting with secrets lately. Months ago Azriel had confided in you he had a cabin somewhere he liked to hide away in when he needed to get away.
That tidbit of knowledge was secured deep in your fantasies, a story you told yourself before going to sleep about him whisking you away to his cabin.
âOh - well, I hope Iâm not interrupting your need for peace.â
âNonsense. I find your presence quite peaceful, anyway.â Your heart was in your throat at his words. His casual admittance giving you just enough strength to be bold.
âThat is very kind of you. I find your presence to also be peaceful and delightful.â He smiled down at you, his full attention on your words. That was always what drew you to Azriel the most. You have always had his full attention whenever you spoke to him, and he always recalled the smallest of details from your conversations.
He saw you. He noticed you. The Mother made him for you and you for him.
âWell, Azriel. We are friends, right? And friends tell each other things and are honest, right?â You wrung your hands with your fingers, needing something to expel your nervous energy.
âYes. I am always honest with you.â His words came out with a slight chuckle, a tilt to his head, wondering where this was going.
âGreat. I have actually been keeping something from you for a while. At first I had to take some time myself to understand, and then I was waiting for the right time.â
âGo on.â He looked radiant with the light of the moon cutting across his face. No male could compare to his beauty. His words of encouragement and his smile at your nervousness were all you needed for the words to come tumbling out.
âI am in love with you. I have been for a long time, and I kept it to myself, but a few weeks ago, the mating bond snapped and I-â
âA mating bond?â His words were sharper than you had ever heard him speak to you before. His shadows swirled around your feet, occasionally jumping and leaping to reach you, but never quite making it.
âYes, it-â
âYouâre certain?â His words were making you shrink ever so slightly. The shadows had now begun swirling around the two of you, like they were trapping the two of you into a bubble.
âYes, it-â
âTo me?â
You tugged hard on the bond, pulling as hard as you could to release him from the shocked stupor he was in. It knocked him off balance, his feet stuttering forward before he righted himself. His scarred hands rubbed absently at his chest, his brows knitted in confusion.
âLet me finish, Azriel.â The shadows that had been swirling around the two of you floated down, sweeping across the floor. A few moved toward you, swirling around your body, helping you stay upright.
He didnât listen to your words, only shook his head in response. He dragged his fingers down his face, muttering something you couldnât quite make out.
He looked once more at you before he reached out, his hands taking hold of your shoulders before the two of you were whisked through space in his shadows.
âAzriel!â You pushed off of him the second you felt solid ground beneath your feet, putting distance between the two of you. âThis is not what I hoped-â
âBe quiet.â
Your eyes widened at his words, taking a moment to take in your surroundings. He winnowed the two of you right in front of a cabin door, the structure surrounded on all sides by thick forest.
âOkay Azriel, you could have just rejected me - not bring me to who knows where.â You ignored his command, irritation lacing your words.
âNo, I just- wait here.â He shut the door quickly behind himself, leaving you alone. Your heart felt heavy as you looked about the woods, uncertain if you wanted to know what laid in the darkness.
Whatever scent lingered from beneath the door was familiar, but you couldnât quite pinpoint it. You were stuck - you could winnow home, you supposed. But why did he bring you out here? Would he leave you out here, wanting to know how long youâd stay and wait? Surely the bond would make him protective enough to let you die from the elements, right? The thought caused the string around your heart to play a sad, out of tune note.
You werenât sure how long you were standing outside, a brisk breeze making you well aware of your lack of coat. The door opened once more, Azriel coming back out before he quickly shut the door behind himself, not letting you see inside.
âAz, what are we doing here?â
He held out a hand to you, his other back on the knob of the door.
âI have never brought anyone from the Inner Circle here.â
You grew frustrated at his words, a tiny hint of pride at being the first of your family to visit here. You accepted his hand, noting there really wasnât any other decision you could make.
He opened the door and you took in the space. It was small - just the one room connected to a kitchen. It held a massive bed - somehow larger than the ones in Velaris. There wasnât much in the way of decorations - the house was void of any indication of who lived in it. Your eyes stopped on the redheaded male who was moving about the kitchen, the sight of him short circuiting your brain.
âYou said youâve never brought anyone else here before.â Somehow amidst all the confusion, that was what your brain settled on.
âHe said no one from the Inner Circle had been here. The doorâs not as thick as you are, Azriel.â Erisâs voice was full of chastisement, clicking his tongue at the end to accent his point. You glanced between the pair, even more confused now that Eris had opened his mouth, the comment almost affectionate.
You shook your head, dismissing the thought. âLook, Az, I get it, this is something you donât want-â âNow I didnât say-â âso we can just go back to Velaris and I can move out.â
âWhat is she talking about?â Erisâs voice was loud to accomodate for the banging of pots and pans. He was cooking something, the cherry on top of âwell, why not this too?â
You looked up at the ceiling, fighting back tears to what has quickly become the worst moment of your life. This was all so strange, you were certain you had hit your head somewhere, your body likely unconscious in Azrielâs room. Maybe none of this happened, and you fell on something in your room.
When you woke up, you were certainly never confessing to him.
âTell him.â Azrielâs prodding words confused you even more. You looked at him in bewilderment. He had the same look on his face he does when heâs about to win a card game - no matter what move you make, heâs right in his assessment.
âTell him? Azriel I think telling someone theyâre your mate and them not wanting it is embarrassing enough, why do we have to drag in a spectator?â
His face fell slightly, something pooling in his eyes you couldnât quite make out.
âWhy do you think Azriel is your mate?â
You cocked your head at Eris, never having officially met him. You would recognize him anywhere - the long red hair, the ornate clothes decorated with autumn leaves, the scent of bonfire and whiskey stuck to him.
No one in the Inner Circle had ever told you how stunning he was, his beauty making other males look like mortals next to him. Except Azriel.
âI assume we can skip the pleasantries, Eris. Every facet of this night is more confusing than the last. Why are you cooking?â
âBecause otherwise I will die of starvation. Or be even more intolerable due to hunger.â
You wished for a wall behind you to bang your head into. They may have omitted his beauty, but they werenât wrong about him being difficult.
âWhy are you in Azrielâs cabin?â
âI asked my question first.â
âWell, Eris, if you must know the inner workings of my personal life, Azriel is my mate and instead of being happy or even indifferent he brought me here to you for some reason. Can I go now?â The tears started forming in the corner of your eye, your fist clenched as you spoke.
âNo,â they replied in unison, not looking at you. They both mirrored each other, their crossed arms not giving anything away as they silently argued, unsure when Azriel moved closer to Eris. You could make out a few words from the hushed tones, but it was impossible to hear them.
It took you a moment to realize Eris had stopped cooking when Azriel approached. He was giving him his full attention as they spoke to each other.
This was a very odd dream indeed.
âIâve felt a pull to you.â Azriel was still looking at Eris, and you werenât certain who he was talking to until he shifted his eyes to you. âI have always been drawn to you, needed to be near you. I didnât want to think we were mates, because Eris is my mate.â
You blinked multiple times, the idea trying to make itself comprehensible to you. You looked around, certain to find some trace Rhysand had built this imaginary reality as a practical joke.
âNo, that's not possible. If itâs not me, it had to be because of Elain or Mor.â
Eris scoffed, his annoyance clear across his face, his movements becoming more hurried as he added things to a pot. âSorry to disappoint the both of you by not having breasts.â
âEris.â An admonishing hiss from Azriel caused the Autumn heir to roll his eyes, not even looking at the glare the shadowsinger sent him.
âForgive me. Forgive my mate for his deceits being so well done it fooled even his female mate.â Eris refused to pull his focus from his cooking, hardly acknowledging you with his body.
âAzriel and I have been together for some time, a rouse that is perpetuated by his supposed infatuation with the other females close to you.â
For some reason, his words stung. Azriel had been faking affection for them? If he could do that, why didn't he fake them for you?
As if reading your thoughts, Eris continued. âHe was feeling something for you, something he hardly wanted to admit to me. But we have been looking into it. It seems no one has ever had this.â
âHad what?â
âTwo mates.â
Your head was reeling, a migraine forming as you tried to process every bit of information you were given. Something gnawed at you - some insecurity making itself known in this odd circumstance.
âWere you getting close to me as an experiment?â That drew Azriel from his silence, his steps moving toward you.
âNo - gods no. I like you, I like spending time with you. Iâm drawn to you - I canât help it.â
âHe yearns.â Erisâs voice was flat as hid words came out, Azriel quickly spun on his heel and looked toward his mate.
His other mate, you supposed.
âI do not yearn.â
âYou complain about missing her when youâre here.â Azrielâs cheeks heated in embarrassment, the first sense of affection you've felt from him since arriving.
Eris stopped stirring, turning his full attention toward you. His gaze left heat all across you, as if his eyes could penetrate your clothes, seeing your body and soul beneath. You canât tell if heâs making the room warmer or if thatâs just you.
âIn the concept of honesty, I have to say you are⊠something.â His words broke you out of whatever stupor you had found yourself in.
âThank you, Eris. That is the best non-descript compliment or insult Iâve ever received.â
âItâs not an insult.â You scoffed, uncertain how to respond. He straightened himself, standing tall as he continued. âDo you wish for me to wax poetic about my mateâs new mate? Divine, delectable, take your pick.â
Was he flirting with you? The notion made no sense, but something Azriel told you about Eris years ago had always stuck.
If you want to get anywhere with him, you have to play his game.
âMy mate has a very pretty mate.â It was true and something Eris was more than aware of about himself. He scoffed, picking up a spoon and going back to cooking, but you continued. âShould I wax poetic about you, hm? Tell you all about how you look like a predator prepared to pounce and Iâd be more than willing to be beneath you?â
Eris stopped his cooking, his spoonclattering as he took his time drinking you in.
âI thought you said she was timid and shy?â His question was directed at Azriel, but he kept looking at you. His gaze stayed on you, not wavering, seeing something he found interesting.
âThatâs because Azriel runs at the potential for intimacy, I had to ease him into it.â Something close to a laugh escaped from Eris. His gaze finally moved toward the shadowsinger.
âI like her, Azriel. We can keep her.â
âI am not some toy to claim ownership to.â Eris paid you no mind, turning back to his cooking. You couldnât figure out what he was making, but it smelled divine.
âOf course not, but you are my mateâs mate and that means I have to like you before making decisions about you.â Your heart stalled at his words, the air getting thinner around you.
âWhat do you mean by decisions?â
âEris.â Azriel cut in for the first time in a while, and you would have forgotten about his presence if it hadnât been for the bond humming.
âWell, I mean he is my mate already. Heâs accepted the bond with me. If I didnât like you, heâd just reject you.â
âHe wouldnât just-â your words stopped, your statement unable to continue. Your throat went dry with the look Azriel gave Eris. It was a split second, but it was enough.
They clearly had discussed it - some topic they had mulled over several times, working through every scenario. Erisâs words were of such nonchalance, such subtle cruelty.
They would decide to shatter your heart without any thought or input from you.
It was getting hot, your clothes too much on your skin. Your breathing rose again, too shallow to fully take in a breath.
âSo youâve been- what? Keeping it a secret for months that Eris is your mate and that Iâm your mate? Were you test running me this whole time?â Your voice came out squeaky, but you were too upset to care.
âNo, I didnât know-â Azriel was scrambling, his eyes pleading with the truth. âI didnât know, I was curious-â
âI mean, I knew you kept secrets, but this is- Eris and-â your breaths were coming shorter and shorter, the cabin swaying slightly as it got harder to breathe. This couldnât be real, it had to be some fictional reality. The bond in your chest was crying in agony, desperate for you to be closer to Azriel and to stop arguing.
âAzriel, she's self-destructing.â Eris didnât move from his spot, continuing his cooking as if you had made an astute observation about the weather.
âI can see that.â
âDo something. Sheâs your mate.â
You pushed the hair from your face, straightening your shoulders. You blinked slowly, trying to clear your gaze. You had been a fool this whole time, that much was true. You were an experiment to Az - this whole time he had his suspicions, and you were nothing but a test subject he could drop at a momentâs notice. The collateral damage of your heart meant nothing to him.
He had Eris. Why would he want you?
âItâs clear now that you already have your hands full, Azriel. Iâll bow out respectfully.â The words came out cold, not a hint of the warmth you felt for Azriel laced them.
âSweetheart-â
His shadows swirled around you, desperate to keep you close, to pull you closer to him. You batted them away, not wanting their comfort.
They knew. Azriel knew. Eris knew. This was all a joke to them.
âIâd be a fool to compete with Eris Vanserra over anything, including you Azriel. Youâve told me a hundred times how Autumn Court males sink their teeth into things and donât let go.â Had his words been a warning? Had he been mated to him when he told you that? How far did these lies run? âClearly you know from experience.â
You winnowed away, Azrielâs hand inches from where you stood. His shadows exploded, several moving around Eris, the Autumn heir batting them away with little effort.
âWhat the fuck is wrong with you?â Azriel directed all of his anger toward Eris.
âYou were my mate first.â
âYou practically pissed all over me, marking your territory. You couldnât keep your mouth shut for me to speak!â
âShall I hike up my leg? I thought such things didnât interest you.â
Azriel breathed deeply, clenching and unclenching his fists to keep his anger in check.
âBesides, you wouldnât speak. You clammed up.â
âWe discussed this. You knew how important this was to me. This all went wrong.â Azriel was tugging at his hair, the bond swirling in his chest with your despair.
âYes, yes. I know how my mate was quite taken with a female he lives with. Forgive me for not being thrilled.â Eris let the tiniest hint of hurt show on his face, his first display of emotion all night. Azriel spotted it immediately, his anger dissipating slightly.
âShe might be your mate, too.â Azrielâs words were a whisper, a soft hope he was speaking into existence. The Mother wouldnât give him two mates who hated each other, would she?
Eris gave a dismissive look Azrielâs way. âI suppose weâll never know now.â

can't stop thinking about the TERROR. the absolute TERROR in Viktor's eyes. when he sees what Jayce promised, all his reasoning for placing such trust and forgiveness in him. that he himself even admits in the end that his course of action was futile, he realizes that it's all futile, that he will fold to Jayce's love.
and deep down, beyond the Hexcore, beyond the Herald, he wants to. all the love and terror balanced there within his eyes. he looks so overstimulated and frozen by the notion that all he does is pointless, that Jayce's words are true, that he and Jayce are destined. that no Evolution, no matter how Glorious, will change the fact that Jayce will win in loving him. I love seeing that horror.
I love seeing that fear in his eyes (he's FROZEN!!! DEER IN HEADLIGHTS!!!!) and that's likely the fear he has to face that's mentioned in The Line. the fear that Jayce's love will win in the end, that he's wrong.

Since making this post, I've found myself swinging like a pendulum between "I was too absolutist in the OP, there probably are some people who have gotten some form of trauma through reading or watching a movie" and "I still don't believe anyone has been traumatized through reading or watching a movie because I haven't seen any evidence of that happening, nor an explanation of how it would happen." Certainly, if someone stumbles away from a book/movie/podcast/etc with trauma symptoms, they deserve full support and recovery. But from everything I know about trauma (I am not an accredited expert and don't know everything), that isn't likely to happen. I'm not convinced our brains don't make clear distinctions between being in life-threatening danger and sitting in a comfortable chair with our eyes on a page or screen. The edge cases I've been presented with have usually had a pretty clear real-life culprit aside from, or at least in strong addition to, the book/movie (abusive family won't let you turn the horror movie off-->this is a context for trauma even if the movie was a comedy).
Nobody owes me information about their personal health and if, after reading my post, someone goes "Yeah, we shouldn't use 'traumatized' as an exaggeration or term of condemnation for media, but I really am traumatized after reading Bridge to Terebithia and I'll keep using that word," more power to them. Several people, though, have responded with more general claims, as you have, that amount to "But fiction can cause trauma," without backing this statement up. (This is the part where the hornets' nest swings back: don't worry, I'm a swarm of very lazy and pedantic hornets.) To tell me, in effect, "Your brain can't tell the difference between watching 2012 and surviving an actual earthquake," you're asking me to make a pretty big shift in my understanding of how brains and people work, and I'm not willing to go that far just because someone tells me so. There's a chapter early in The Body Keeps the Score where Bessel van der Kolk talks about brain scans he did with two survivors of a car accident to measure the physical impact of PTSD, and at this moment in time, I don't believe the same brain rewiring has ever happened as a result of reading about a car accident.
(Someone brought up vicarious trauma, but all the examples I can find of vicarious trauma relate to media coverage or secondhand experience of real-life tragedies. To speak very briefly from personal experience, a loved one's sudden death can cause/be a vicarious trauma even if you don't witness it firsthand. Reading Bridge to Terebitha isn't equivalent to having a real person in your life die suddenly. It's actually very significant that when you close the book, your friends and loved ones are still alive!)
I'm wondering if, as a society who cares about vulnerable people, we could stop saying "traumatize" when we truly mean "upset"?
I am sick of hearing sad books or movies "traumatize" their readers. I simply do not believe that happens. A traumatic experience might be adjacent to books (I have vivid memories of books I was reading around certain experiences and even how the contents of those books affected my processing of the experiences). But it's not caused by the book. And, y'know. The weather is Christofascist Censorship Attempts outside.
Meanwhile from the other side I continue to be surprised at just how badly people fail to understand trauma and traumatic experiences in general. Watering down the term isn't helping. Find other hyperbole to express that The Bridge to Terebithia gutted you, chewed on your heartstrings, and made you cry your first pair of contact lenses right out of your preteen eyes.
#I'd use 'traumatized' to either mean 'developed symptoms of PTSD or at least acute stress disorder'#or 'went through something widely known to be a potential cause of PTSD or acute stress disorder'#-even if you don't develop the symptoms you still have the aftereffects#such as the funeral to plan and the dead loved one's absence in your life#I know books and movies don't do the latter (you walk out of 2012 and the world is still standing) so the conversation is about the former#here it's the matter of evidence#it's possible that the people with PTSD from fiction just haven't been accounted for by trauma researchers#but I don't want to base our discourse about literature or trauma on hypotheticals when we have urgent realities#(book-banning and people who have been through real traumas)
