The Goddess not so ordinary
Chapter 24
At Gilbert's Kingdom:
A woman dressed as a queen is throwing everything at her bedroom's wall. She looks really pissed:
- How could I lose that stupid child? Nobody found her. Even with everyone in the village knowing she is a wanted person now and that anyone who tells her location will receive a lot of money....nobody ever saw her....it looks like she just vanished..... - The Queen Meredith says to herself while she keeps throwing things.
- Arrrrg....Damn it! - She exclaims
At this moment her door opens and a person with a black hood enters. Meredith gets really scared:
- Look, I'm sorry! Just give me one more chance to find the girl...I swear I'll find her.... - Meredith says
The person only takes a big knife in her right hand and gets close to her. She tries to use her magic but it doesn't affect the person. She runs but it was too late. The person threw the knife and hit her back. Meredith's body falls on the floor already lifeless and with a lot of blood coming out of it. The person leaves and left the body bleeding on the floor. When Meredith's daughter, Katherine, went to see her, she screamed with the scene in front of her.
- Mother! Please, no! Help! Somebody help! Somebody help! - Katherine yells
But, Katherine noticed something on her mother's hand. It was an art of Selena's face and below it, it was written "Wanted".
- I swear mother, I'll find that stupid girl for you! Selena can hide for now, but she won't escape, I swear! - Katherine says with hatred.
In the morning somewhere:
Hercules, Selena and Iolaus are holding some barrels to a ship. They leave them standing in the ship's floor. Iolaus is almost out of breath.
- Wow! These were heavy! - Iolaus says a little out of breath
- Heavy? - Selena asks
- I don't think it's heavy! - Hercule says
- Of couse you would think that, Herc! - Iolaus says while he rolls his eyes
- But they are really not that Heavy! - Selena says
- What?! Look, from Hercules I already expected, but not from you Elizabeth! - Iolaus says
- Sorry, Iolaus! - Selena says
- What do you eat? - Iolaus asks
- Excuse me? - Selena asks confused
- What do you eat that makes you strong and capable of lifting heavy things like Herc? - Iolaus asks
- Uhh, well....I....I...I work out a lot! - Selena lies
- But you are only a child! - Iolaus says
- Why? Can't a child work out too? Is it wrong? - Selena teases Iolaus
- Alright.... - Iolaus says not believing Selena completely
Meanwhile in Gilbert's Kingdom:
A young girl with a beautiful dress was walking towards a throne. She sits on it and everyone starts declaring her the new queen:
"Long Live The Queen"
The young blonde girl's face was serious and she only had one thought in mind:
"You'll pay so much for this, Selena. Just wait. I'll find you. I'll make your life a miserable hell"

HTLJ S1E1 "The Wrong Path"
The great HTLJ/XWP/YH (re)watch continues!
Finally starting the show proper!
We kick off with a scene in a pub where Hercules and Iolaus are helping the staff (and patrons?) who are being held/strung up.
I don't actually like fight scenes all that much so it felt kinda long, but I LOVED our boys in it, so that helped. I was so excited to see Iolaus in the episode right away, kicking ass, no less!
Tumblr media
The way he shook off after the fight ended - why is he so cute??
"Feeling stiff." "Work out kinks." Am I reading innuendo into everything? Maybe.
Hercules goes home and witnesses Hera nuke his family. The way the family died was so cheap!! (My notes, literally: "I’m sorry, what…?")
We didn’t even get to see Dei’s face (I assume not the actress from the movies), and we didn’t see the kids at all! Just a (decent looking) fireball and they're just "gone". After them being in the movies I felt a bit robbed emotionally of a heartfelt death for Dei (and the kids).
I thought this could be a weird way to open the TV show since people might start at S1E1 without watching the movies. Later, they do put in some "flashbacks" of the movies to give the audience a sense of Hercules's family at least. So that's good.
I thought Hercules's reaction to it all was a little off? It felt very much like the scene was being "acted" if you know what I mean... It wasn't hard to forget I was watching an actor try to portray that he was rather upset that he'd just watched his family get killed in front of his eyes, rather than, like, believable anguish. That's okay. Hercules does better when he's not being rageful anyway. Unfortunately that's very much this episode, and I can't blame the character for it given what just happened.
I was surprised to see clips from the movies in the opening credits! Does that mean they hadn't filmed the whole first season yet when they made the opening sequence, or did they just like those shots so much...?
Iolaus comes to fetch Hercules to get to work, and Hercules has to deliver the news that Dei and the kids are dead. Iolaus is understandably upset, grieving them alongside Hercules. He asks about Zeus, but Hercules says his father won't show his face.
Oh and now we don’t see Zeus anymore? Hm. I remember being surprised we saw Zeus in the movies because I didn't think he showed up in the TV shows, so perhaps I was right!
Anyway then Iolaus suggests they "wage a war against Hera" in revenge. (My notes: "Awwww Ioley standing up for Hercules and shit-talking the gods. I love him.") Hercules agrees with the premise, but insists that Iolaus stay behind. Iolaus is all "You're my friend" and Hercules is all "And you're mine" and I just want Hercules to let him come along because I love them together.
Also I got lost starting at Iolaus and noticing his cool vest with the embroidered patches. I just like the way it looks!
Tumblr media
Then Hercules decides to burn down his house and everything in it. I was a little confused why he decided that was the best course of action. Symbolic of a new beginning I guess? Is he gonna be a nomad now? (I guess that was always my impression of the show before watching the movies, so probably.)
While he's getting this ready, some guy (Lycus of Ister?) comes to ask for help and Herc shoos him away because he can't just help everyone who crosses his path. (Why not? But okay.)
We get this amazing scene where the guy goes to the pub to bitch about this and Iolaus stands up for Hercules and shit-talks Hera some more. And Zeus, too. He tells everyone that Hercules deserves their respect and sympathy. Love him.
Then Iolaus consoles the man that it WAS a good decision to go to Hercules for help, because normally he would have helped, and instead volunteers to help Lycus in Hercules's place.
Does Iolaus not still have a child?? I know Anya died in the movies, but he had a kid. That was like, a recurring thing that got mentioned in the last movie! Anyway...
While Iolaus is travelling with Lycus, Herc goes to visit his mother. Is this the same actress for Alcemene as the movies? My mental image is always Alcemene from Young Hercules so I don't remember what the movie one looked like. She reveals that Zeus told her about Dei and the kids.
Tumblr media
Alcmene says "There is plenty of time for anger, but your grief has to come first"... Anger is often a part of the grief process, so that was a little confusing to me. What do I know, I just work at a Hospice.
Alcmene explains that the whole thing was Hera's reaction to Zeus being with some other woman... then very helpfully tells Hercules that Hera will destroy everyone that Hercules loves, all his friends and family, to keep him as miserable as possible, forever. (Thanks, mom.) Hercules wonders if his mom is safe and she thinks she is???
Herc says of Zeus, “He lets everyone down sooner or later.” Oof.
Honestly I still don't understand why Hera is taking out all her gripes with Zeus on Hercules, and I totally get why Hercules is done with Zeus's shit.
Hercules announces that to pay back Hera, he's gonna go destroy her 7 temples. At first I was confused because we see (what I guess were more like, shrines? Altars?) to Hera in all sorts of places, so how could there only be 7, and how could he be sure? But eventually we do see one of the temples he's talking about and it's like a big ass building, so I guess there's a difference there. 7 big temples.
I am so curious if this is like a season 1 quest or if it takes the whole series to complete, or if he like gives up to focus on other things, or what...? I guess we'll see!
Tumblr media
I feel so bad for Herc. He’s in a bad place and clearly just doesn’t care about anything right now other than this revenge plan. He really seems broken. I miss happy Herc from the movies. 😭
We cut back to Iolaus who has mostly made it to Ister with Lycas. They stumble upon someone getting turned to stone by the she-demon that Lycus came for help about.
Hercules enters the temple to find there's a woman tied up and of course he saves her while fighting everyone and destroying the temple. Her name is Aegina. I liked her.
Tumblr media
Aegina finds out about Hercules's plan, and tells him not to let what happened turn him into something he's not. We get a nice little selection of flashbacks of Dei talking about how much she loved that he always helped people, and people asking him for help. We see Hercules soften, and I got happy. I thought that was pretty well done.
We cut back to Iolaus in Ister, about to enter the she-demon's lair and when Lycus questions how he'll resist the demon, Iolaus says: “I’ve resisted many women in my time. It’s a special power that I have.” SIR???
He goes in and isn't seduced by the she-demon, but does lose the fight and get turned to stone. This immediately let me know that everyone who was turned to stone would turn back by the end of the episode because Iolaus has plot armour I'm pretty sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hercules gets to Ister and finds out that Iolaus is dead, gives some guff to Lycus for wanting to leave town to escape being turned to stone, and then when Hercules announces that he's gonna put a stop to the she-demon, Lycus asks "How do you know you can?"
Hercules replies, “I’m undefeated.” Except for your dead family I guess but- (No, I know what he means, like, in a fight, but still. This felt a little cocky, but also a return of the Hercules I like, so I won't harp on it much lmao.)
Tumblr media
He goes in to confront the she-demon and she tries to seduce him.
In my notes I had just the sentence "Speciesist." but couldn't recall why until I skimmed through again. There's a part where she asks "don't you like being loved, too?" and Hercules replies "Not by someone with scales on her rear end". Hahaha. 🤣
They fight, and Hercules doesn't have a weapon, so he tricks the demon into tying her tail around part of the cave. I noted that if he had brought a sword in, he could have sliced the tail off already. But in the end he gets her to sting herself with her tail, and dies - and, importantly, all the men who were turned to stone come back to life.
On the journey back, Iolaus reveals to Hercules that he saw Dei and the kids in the afterlife while he was turned to stone. I thought it was really sweet, since Hercules has been to the Underworld and we know that it can be nice. Herc asks if they're okay and Iolaus confirms that they're fine, they just miss Hercules. But they don't want him to die - they "know how much good [he has] left to do".
But also, like.... CAN HERCULES DIE? Did we ever get a straight answer on if Hercules is mortal or immortal?? If he's immortal then, like... he can never see his family again. That's sad!
And then he leaves Iolaus to go on his adventure by himself! So begins his nomad life (sans our boy for now)!
Overall, a decent episode! 😃

Summer Rain
A/N: Happy Fili Friday! Today, Iolaus is also getting some love! BECAUSE HE DESERVES IT OKAY. Sorry, I’m a little emotional. Hope you guys enjoy this one! I certainly loved writing it. Get ready for some ROMANTIC FLUFF.
Pairing: Iolaus x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 3,186
Warnings: fluff, makeout sesh
Summary: BF&GF Playing hooky< all you need to know. But also (lemme geek out for a sec) I like to think (Y/N) is the top cadet academically and she HATES Iolaus for his cocky and lazy demeanor UNTIL Fiducious asks her to tutor him. Then she falls head over sandals in love with this golden boy’s true heart because wouldn’t we all
A Note About the Poetry/References: The poem (please just read it for me and my romantic little heart, okay?) is called A Lover’s Sigh, written by Anacreon who lived in Ancient Greece (in Teos AKA across the Aegean Sea from Corinth) around 500 BC. ISN’T THAT COOL. Also, some of The Odyssey (translated to English, of course) is quoted here.
LOOK AT HIM LOVE OF MY LIFE
Tumblr media
(Y/N) loved falling asleep to the symphony that came with the falling rain. Whether it be a downpour slapping against the soft grass or a sprinkling of misty drops landing on a roof of thatch, the lullaby was always welcomed. However, it was especially cherished after a day of endless drills and exams that left her with an exhausted mind and aching muscles to match. When she climbed into bed, her woes were forgotten and replaced with nature’s soft tune raining down and the scent of fresh earth sneaking through the cracked windows in the academy. (Y/N) loved every part of the rain.
Except training in it.
She woke the next morning with a start at the rumbling thunder that snapped to a crack right above the academy. Some of her classmates were already awake, watching the storm from the doorway and planning their route across the wide grounds to the dining hall’s entrance. She had rebraided her hair for the day by the time those cadets had mustered up the courage to skitter out from under the doorway and across the fields. She snorted as she pulled on her boots.
“Don’t laugh, (Y/N),” Hercules said from his bed above. “That’ll be us next.”
“Can’t you ask your dad to chill out with the thunder already? He’s been at it all night.”
Hercules noisily mocked her. “Yeah, sure, I’ll send a request right up. Anything for your convenience, (Y/N).”
“I appreciate the diligence,” she said. She chased Hercules to the door and pushed him outside into the drip. Cold droplets fell down the back of his neck and he shivered and cringed, dancing back into the shelter. He grabbed her shoulders but she slipped out of his grasp, giggling. “Not fast enough, Herc,” she said.
Jason stepped between them, acting as (Y/N)’s shield as Hercules shook his dripping hair. “Listen, the quicker we run to the dining hall, the quicker we can eat, okay? By the time we go to morning drills, we’ll be dry.”
“Just in time to get soaked again,” Iolaus said. As usual, he’d been the last to wake up. He ran a hand through his messy curls and placed the other discreetly on (Y/N)’s back for no one to notice but her. “You know they’ll make us train in the storm today.”
“It builds character,” he and Hercules said at the same time, both mocking Chieron perfectly.
“I’m not intending on training anywhere on an empty stomach so are you all coming to breakfast with me or not?” Jason said.
“You’re grumpy,” Hercules mumbled.
(Y/N) laid a hand on Jason’s shoulder. “All right, all right. Herc, take the starving king to breakfast, I’ll meet you guys there,” she said, having to gather her scrolls and bag for classes. Probably a few towels as well.
She turned and dug her things out from under her bed, sighing to herself.
“I thought you liked the rain?”
She leapt from her place in fright. “Gods, Iolaus, you scared me. I thought you went with the guys.” She set down her scrolls and watched the wet sheets fall through the doorway again. “I do like the rain, but not when I have to go out in it.”
Iolaus hummed, following her gaze. He didn’t notice her sneak behind him until she rested her head on his shoulder.
“I’d much rather spend a day like today in… the hay loft? The barn is empty until after dinner is served anyway. No one will be up there, especially on a day like today.”
“Are you, (Y/N), stealer of library scrolls, actually suggesting we play hooky?” Iolaus asked.
Her head snapped up. “I do not steal scrolls!”
“Only the ones Fiducious doesn’t let you borrow,” he said with a poking finger. “You aren’t supposed to know about that.”
“Oh, (Y/N), you are forgetting about the life I led before I came to this charming academy. I know a lot of things I’m not supposed to know.”
She scoffed, but grabbed his hand and her bag. “Fine, then, Master Burglar, how do we get to the barn without being seen?”
He led her to the opposite exit of the small building. “Considering the barn is on the other side of the grounds and we will have to pass the window of Chieron’s office and his horses don’t exactly like me-”
“What did you do to the horses, Iolaus?”
“Not important- we just have to RUN!”
He dragged her out into the rain, shushing her surprised squeal with smiling lips. Their sandals squeaked in the wet and squished in the mud as they ran past the well, jumped over the short wall, and skittered along the side of the main building of the academy.
“Wait!” he cried out in a harsh whisper. “Wait here. That’s Chieron’s window.”
Before he could formulate a plan, (Y/N) slipped from his clammy grasp and bent forward, crawling underneath the window. She called him to follow. “We’re almost there!”
With no roofs to slither under, Iolaus tore off his vest and it quickly became their umbrella for the second half of the journey through the wide field. As they neared the barn, (Y/N) was just as relieved as Iolaus to see the horses already inside. That meant they truly would be alone in the hay loft until someone came to feed the animals at night. The barn was all theirs.
“Do you think anyone saw us?” (Y/N) asked after they’d slithered inside and closed the barn door. Iolaus held the ladder for her as she climbed up to the hay loft.
“I don’t think so,” he said. “Everyone is in the dining hall at this hour.” He followed her up, sending nervous glances to the horses below. A shiver ran up his spine. Whether it was from the dark eyes staring up at him or the icy beads of rain still trickling down his bare skin, he wasn’t quite sure.
He threw his sopping vest over a bale. “Well, I won’t be putting that back on any time soon,” he said with a wide mouthed wink.
(Y/N) shook her head at his never ending antics, but smiled at him all the same. “Good thing I brought something dry and warm for you, then.” Out of her bag came one of his own tunics he didn’t realize had been stolen.
“You sneaky little cadet,” he said, putting it on. “You planned this.”
“Maybe.” She had pulled her braid apart and was squeezing her hair dry with one of the towels she’d brought.
“Lucky for you, I too came prepared.” He slid the tunic over his head and it didn’t take long for drenched, golden curls along with a dimpled grin to pop out of the neck. Then he reached for his bag, rummaging around the small rips in the lining until he uncovered two loaves of fresh bread. He gave one to (Y/N) with a flourish and a bow, savoring her laugh. But as she leaned forward to take the treat from him, a stiff, crinkling chattered that was just loud enough to hear over the rain outside. He watched her sit quickly upright and hide her twitching lips behind the crust of bread. “What was that?” he asked.
“Nothing.”
“No. You-you didn’t.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said around the hunk of bread in her mouth.
“You brought a scroll? We are playing hooky and you brought homework! I knew this was too good to be true.”
She stood, pulling the small scroll out from under her shirt. She’d managed to pack everything else for the day when Iolaus wasn’t looking, but this was a last minute addition that didn’t quite make it into her bag.
“It’s not homework,” she said. “It’s for pleasure.”
“That is no pleasure I’d like to be a part of!”
She laughed out loud at that and Iolaus only half enjoyed it. She skipped to his side, turned his stubborn face to her, and wrung out his curls into her towel. “Come on, Iolaus. With all our exams coming up, I never have time to read anymore. Especially not poetry because we haven’t covered any of it in our modern literature classes yet. Now I have the whole day free to-”
“To read poetry,” he grumbled.
Her soft touch through the towel traveled over his shoulders and down his chest, collecting the raindrops that still gathered in the hollows of his tanned skin. “I know you don’t like poetry much, but what if I promise to read you something I know you’ll enjoy?”
“Then you don’t know me very well.”
She took his chin in her fingers. “You are such a grump! Let me read for one hour and then we can do what you want.” She wriggled out of his grasp that consisted of roaming hands and squeezing fingers. “Within reason!” she said, snapping the towel at him.
A childish, roaring groan filled the barn as she sat on a bale of hay. She patted the spot next to her, beckoning him to sit. “Just trust me.”
Heavy feet stomped across the loft until Iolaus sat on the floor beneath her, scooting around until he could lean back between her knees. He looked up at her, chin to the sky and blue eyes gleaming. “Tell me about this poem.”
“It comes from across the sea,” she said, unrolling the scroll by its pins. “Listen.”
“The Phyrgian rock that braves the storm Was once a weeping matron’s form; And Procne, hapless, frantic maid,  Is now a swallow in the shade. Oh that a mirror’s form were mine,  To sparkle with that smile divine; And like my heart I then should be, Reflecting thee, and only thee! Or could I be the robe which holds That graceful form within its folds; Or t-”
“Wait, wait, wait, wait. This is a dirty poem?” He spun and took the scroll from her, turning so fast, his hair sprayed droplets over her and the parchment. He stared at the words, then turned to her. “You read dirty poetry?”
She laughed. “They’re not all like this.” She swiped his curls over his shoulder, running a fingertip around his ear and down his neck. “Read the rest of it.” Gentle hands turned his shoulders forward and she asked again. “Read to me, Iolaus.”
He coughed, unconsciously leaning toward her breath on his bare skin.
“Or could I be the robe which holds That graceful form with-”
She was kissing his neck. Warm, soft lips over his jaw, under his ear, down his neck to the bit of shoulder his tunic left open to her. The little clicking sound of her mouth against his skin sounded louder than any lightning crack Zues could send down to them. He curved into her hold.
“Keep reading,” she said.
“How am I supposed to concentrate with you… kissing me like that?”
“Does it feel good?” The tip of her nose traced over the sensitive skin that her lips left damp.
He could only hum his appreciation. Her hands rolled forward to the front of his tunic, wanting the deep rumble to sound again so she could feel it in her palms.
“Keep reading or I will stop.”
He grumbled. “Her gifts were mixed with good and evil both.”
She breathed out a laugh, tightened her grip, and sunk her teeth into his skin. He lifted the scroll.
“...Within its folds; Or, turned into a fountain, lave Thy beauties in my circling wave; Or, better still, the zone that lies Warm to thy breast, and feels its sighs! Or like those envious pearls that show So faintly round the neck of snow! Yes, I would be a happy gem,  Like them to hang, to fade like them. What more would thy Anacreon be? Oh, anything that touches thee, Nay, sandals for those airy feet-- Thus to be pressed by thee were sweet!”
Iolaus rolled up the scroll and set it aside, turning in her arms to kneel between her legs so they were face to face. Her damp hair fell around her as if to frame the portrait of a goddess. He kissed her lips.
“Did I not say you would enjoy the poem?” she asked.
He kissed her cheek and ran his fingers through her hair. The sight of untied tresses was rare, and he took this chance to feel their softness and marvel at the delicate waves. “I would enjoy anything as long as I am with you.”
When he drew away from her cheek, he saw her eyes had closed from his tender touch. Half of him wished she’d open them for they were the brightest light there was on this dreary day. However, the more selfish half of him wanted them to stay closed. She’d never permit his staring if she saw the way he was watching her, taking her in. His finger curled over her forehead down to her chin to hold her face still. Even as her curious eyes opened to him, he gazed on.
“Never have I set my eyes upon such a beauty, in either man or woman. I look at you and I am bedazzled,” he said.
All breath left her. “Where did you learn that?”
“I said I would enjoy anything as long as we were together. Do you really think I’d ignore your passion for poetry and stories? That I’d leave you alone in it?”
She shook her head, left speechless by his words.
Just as a log split open by a heavy ax, so seemed Iolaus’ armor of deceptive reputation: cracked and gaping, revealing a true, tender heart underneath. From its center radiated unmatched compassion and care that shone brightly enough to play the part of the sun on this murky morning. Her own thoughts cowered from his brilliance.
“No, I-just-”
“I love you, (Y/N).”
She kissed his lips, arm circling his shoulders to pull him close. His dimples caved in under her thumbs as she cradled his face, pouring her appreciation, astonishment, admiration- all of it into her kiss.
“I love you too,” she whispered against his lips.
He dove into her again- lips, tongues, hands, fingers- and she keened, falling into his lap on the floor.
“Iolaus.”
Over her own sigh of his name, she barely heard someone else’s voice. She drew away to listen, but Iolaus’ lips only fell down her cheek to her neck, serving as a further distraction.
“Do you hear that?”
He hummed against her skin.
Thunderous footsteps banged outside, squishing and spurting in the puddles of mud while the looping chains of the hitching posts crashed together, sending a harsh, bright clanging sound up to the loft of the barn.
“What is that?” (Y/N) asked.
“You know exactly what that is,” Iolaus said, tugging her hips closer.
The slam against the barn door sent the large handle rattling and yanked Iolaus from his heated stupor. Surely the storm’s angry power couldn’t be the manifestation of a godly punishment for two students playing hooky, they thought. But that fear shifted as the warning voice outside eventually gave them a different, but no safer, solution.
“I don’t think (Y/N) and Iolaus would be in here, sir, Fiducius, sir. I really don’t. But if you insist, I guess we’ll have to go inside the barn and see!”
The pair in the loft shared a look. Eyebrow waggles and waving hands gave silent orders of “Tuck in your tunic” and “Tie back your hair,” while soggy clothes and bread were thrown into their bags. A wicked bale of hale sent Iolaus hurdling to the floor. Then the barn door below slid open. The drumming of rain and Fiducius’ prattling of Iolaus corrupting his best student were deafening to ears that had grown used to accelerated breaths and soft whispers.
“(Y/N), are you in here? With that Iolaus?” Fiducius called.
Her eyes blew wide, wordlessly begging Iolaus for advice. “Um, yes! Up in the loft?”
Iolaus holding his head in his hands told her she’d given the wrong answer. She slapped his shoulder. The rungs of the loft’s ladder squeaked and Fiducius’ head popped into view.
“What are you doing up here? You should be in class!” he said.
“Is it that time already?” Iolaus asked. He shut his mouth when (Y/N) pinched him.
“I’m sorry, sir,” she said. “I lost track of time. We were only trying to get some studying in before breakfast.”
Their teacher’s nose wrinkled. “Studying?”
“Yes. I’ve been helping Iolaus with his classwork in the mornings and this is the best place to go. It’s… quiet.”
“And!” Hercules added from below the loft. “And with all the rain this morning, you had no idea what time it was because-”
“Because there was no sun,” Fiducius finished. “I see.” His eyes narrowed in on Iolaus’ strategically covered lap. “What is that scroll you have there?”
Iolaus shifted on the bale of hay, moving as far from (Y/N) as possible in the small space. He inspected the scroll, wondering if it could give him any answers for this type of exam. “Poetry, sir. (Y/N)’s been teaching me about… Anna-cree-on…”
“Anacreon,” she corrected.
“Yeah. His poetry. From across the sea.”
Fiducius was not impressed. “Odd thing to study since we’ve never covered modern works in class.”
A noise caught in Iolaus’ throat. He looked to (Y/N) for help.
“Iolaus asked for it,” she said. “He enjoys poetry.”
Another suspicious hum traveled across the loft. “Come down here now, please. I will escort all of you to class this instant.” Then his head fell as he descended the ladder.
Before (Y/N) could rise from her seat to follow, Iolaus pulled her into one last kiss. Though it was against her nature, she could have defied all orders to steal another, but Iolaus only smiled at her and stood, leading her to the edge of the loft.
He climbed down the ladder first, ignoring (Y/N)’s mumblings of “I don’t need help” and “I’ve fought off gods, I can handle a shaky ladder.” Before her foot could touch the ground, he grabbed her hips and pulled her out of the barn, clear from Fiducius’ view.
“You didn’t get your hour of reading,” he said.
She shrugged. “I think I got something just as good.”
They parted as Fiducius emerged from the barn and led the way to the main building of the academy, thanking the gods for stopping the rain and mumbling about students turning into muddy hogs to be slopped. He was easily ignored by the couple behind him twisting together like vines of ivy.
(Y/N) looked up to the sky as if watching the dark, rumbling clouds move on to the next village. Truthfully, she was leaning into the arm Iolaus was holding around her and looking into the summer sky of her love, all clear blue eyes and curls like golden rays of sun.

Live Blogging Disney’s Hercules
Okay I’m gonna start with the fact that Hercules was actually named Heracles, and Disney says that his parents are Hera and Zeus but REALLY he was the product of Zeus’ fling with Alcmene. Zeus named the baby after Hera so that Hera wouldn’t kill the little guy out of rage at her cheater husband. But for the sake of the movie we’ll stick with:

00:01: a weird museum full of vases and statues, featuring the muses. I’d like to point out that there are actually nine, versus the featured five. But we all know that these ladies have enough personality to cover those other four. I can JAM to that gospel truth. We next see a view of Mount Olympus. The real Mount Olympus isn’t actually all that big, and really it would have been easy for the Greeks to climb up there and SEE the gods they believed lived there. But they didn’t Do That, which I think says a lot about the Greeks.
00:04 “I haven’t seen this much love in a room since Narcissus discovered himself.” A great joke, but Narcissus was actually a human who was later turned into a flower.
In this scene, Zeus gives his newborn son a gift: a winged horse named Pegasus. Pegasus may have obeyed Zeus, but he was actually the son of Medusa after her rape by Poseidon. He never really had any contact with Hercules that I know of.
00:07 The Fates and their threads of life- creepy right? Well they weren’t actually like that. Disney’s version combines the fates with the Gray Sisters, who were featured in Percy Jackson as being all-knowing and sharing a single eye and tooth between them. The Fates had the power to end life, but they didn’t look the same or have quite the same knowledge.
00:10 So this is just gonna un-do the ENTIRE plot but, suffice it to say that Hades did not give a flying pterippus about Hercules OR Heracles. Hades is pretty well known for staying in the Underworld. He likes it there! Or rather, he hates being near his brothers. That and he isn’t exactly allowed to leave very often...
Anyways, Hercules greatest feats were actually the result of his punishment by King Eurystheus....more on that later.
00:17 A true thing! Hercules was indeed raised on earth, mortal, and strangled two large snakes when he was an infant. In the myth, however, the snakes were sent by Hera. (Fun fact: Hercules was a twin, but his brother, Iphicles, had no powers.)
00:20 Hercules’ song in the movie SLAPS. Go the Distance is a banger and Michael Bolton killed it.
00:23 Zeus tells Hercules that if he becomes a hero, his godhood will be restored. Now - where is the lie? This actually isn’t too far from the truth. His punishment from Eurystheus was to complete a series of labors. At the completion of these tasks, he would be purified of his crimes and be allowed to live on Olympus. What were his crimes? Well....we’ll get there. Patience.
00:31 This movie has a lot of great songs, mythology errors aside. Philoctetes may be a rapist and a creep, but he can sing well enough.
00:35 Now is the time when we finally meet Megara! Megara was indeed the first wife of Hercules. A bit of a downer here: Hera, in one her infinite attempts to ruin the hero’s life, drove Hercules insane one spring night. In his insanity he killed his wife and children. After coming to, he was sent to Eurystheus for punishment. Luckily, Disney skipped that part of the myth. That doesn’t necessarily mean Megara gets a happy story, as we’ll see later.
00:37 Hades is wildly interpreted by several different adaptations of myth. In this movie, he seems like a very sassy, stressed-out gay. To be fair a lot of the ancient greeks were bisexual, including Hercules! But I digress.
00:45 Hercules is faced with battling a Hydra, aka a dragon with multiple heads which regrow after being cut off. This was indeed a feature of the myth, as defeating the Hydra was one of Hercules’ tasks set by Eurystheus. In the myth, he is assisted by his friend and kin, Iolaus. The movie does a good job depicting this, even minus the help. The scene is followed by another SMASH of a song, Zero to Hero. It is during this musical montage that we glimpse his other achievements: the slaying of the Nemean Lion, for example, whose hide is later seen as a cloak around Hercules (peep the Lion King reference).
Tumblr media
00:51 Hades: “What are THOOOSE”
00:56 There’s the Lion King ref I mentioned, among several other pieces of comedic relief following that scene with Zeus.
00:59 I CAN HEAR THE BEGINNING NOTES OF “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” AND I AM REAAAADDYYYY also peep the prick of cupid’s arrow in Megara’s back.
00:01 HERE IT IS THE SONG OF THE CENTURY GET IT SUSAN EGAN
01:06 I’m gonna take this time to point out a major change from the myth. Hercules never really had a “trainer” in any story I’ve read, unless you count the musical tutor who Herc killed for being too critical. In actuality, Philoctetes was another hero and friend of Hercules who was badly wounded at Troy. There was never a satyr rapist involved (a sapyst? A ratyr?)
01:15 Hermes is the chaotic good sassy gay and Hades is the chaotic evil sassy gay
01:16 The power of animation is making Megara look gorgeous even after being crushed by a pillar
01:18 If Hades’ hair is fire does that make him flamingly gay?
01:22 A total Orpheus and Eurydice moment, Hercules was never able to get is wife back from the dead in the myth. He did go to Hades in order to dog-nap Cerberus once, though.
01:23 Hades: “MR STARK I DON’T FEEL SO GOOD”
Finalé: Hercules is a great movie for little kids getting started on mythology. I’ve always loved the humor and sound track, even if almost everything is inaccurate.

Hercules in the Underworld
The great HTLJ/XWP/YH (re)watch continues!
I actually watched this AGES ago and took notes but am only now formatting this blog post.
First scene, I got overly excited, and my notes literally read "Iolaus!? But not, sadly." because our boy Michael Hurst shows up with black hair, and idec what's going on at this point because I just want to stare at him for the rest of the movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the ground opens up and it's this whole thing and these two die. Boo.
The next thing I freaked out about was Timothy Balme in the credits!! I hadn't thought about it at all going into it, so I didn't know he was in the movie. (I know him mostly from Almighty Johnsons, as Mike Johnson, and for writing things I liked.)
Those credits were over a scene where a young woman was being bathed and groomed etc. It's kinda sus but we don't know what's up yet.
Then we get what is actually kind of an upsetting scene? This wrestler comes to town and the hype man is taking bet money from anyone who wants to challenge the wrestler... who then just immediately kills the first man. And his friend realllly flatly complains about it because that was his friend. Yeah, you sound heart-broken... but for some reason friend dude challenges the 'wrestler' who just literally killed someone, and he has no shot.
Then we get a really adorable reveal of Hercules with his kids and it made me happy to see him after that awful scene. He's asked to come deal with the killer in town, and so he arrives to challenge him. There's a long fight, bla bla, Hercules wins. Then it's revealed that this whole thing was Hera just causing problems to annoy Hercules and WOW is that awful.
Several men are dead because Hera blames Hercules for Zeus's infidelity... what else is new?
Hercules quite reasonably destroys the shrine to Hera outside the town.
Tumblr media
Then Zeus comes and complaings to Herc about how he should complain less about Hera's bs? And be more grateful for how great his life is, because he has a wife and kids/happy home life and that's "more than [Zeus] ever had" which is like... confusing?? He's the king of the gods? Surely he could have had a nice wife if he'd wanted one? IDK. I don't get Zeus. And I get him less the more I see.
Herc rightfully points out that he's worked very hard to get this nice life, and I feel much more annoyed at Zeus on Herc's behalf than he is. Hercules has grown on me so much haha.
My notes: "I kept waiting for Hercules to come home to his wife and kids dead. XD" "How do we still have a wife and kids and no Iolaus???"
Luckily Herc goes home and there's a cute scene of him and his wife that shows their chemistry quite well. I liked Dei a lot here. Herc then goes and does chores but gets distracted by how much he loves his family and my FUCKING HEART. I love Hercules so much in this scene.
Tumblr media
And he's hanging out with this centaur guy who, initially, excited me!
"A centaur! Not as well done visuals as they end up having for Cheiron in YH but fair enough."
Then this girl shows up and says she needs Herc's help in her town. We find out that the centaur doesn't like Hercules and worships Hera (even tho he works for Hercules?). He goes back to the house and gets into a confrontation with Dei where he implies that Hercules won't be faithful to her and then - (and this part makes my skin crawl) says that he can think of something else he can do better than Hercules, coming on to her. I thought this scene was unfortunately believable, both on how creepy he was and how Dei reacted.
"Die-a-nah-rah"? "Day-a-nee-rah"? Well the characters can't agree on how to say her name, so...
Dei encounters a lady who says the girl who came looking for help is trying to trick Hercules, so she goes to try to warn him. She leaves her kids with their aunt.
I got really excited, because the aunt's name is Althea (which is the name of my Young Hercules OC hahahahaha).
On the subject of names, the woman Herc is helping is named "Iole" but I definitely thought her name was "ailoli" at some point. But also why is Iole's name so similar to their daughter's name (Ilea)? WHAT IS WITH NAMES IN THESE MOVIES?? Just pick names that are more different PLEASE. Iole, Ilea, Iolaus, whyyyyy.
Anyway, off Dei goes to warn Herc but SURPRISE, Herc already knew all about it and he's convinced he'll never get seduced by anyone because the only person he loves enough to die for is Dei (sorry kids), so he sends her home with the centaur (Nessus) that tried it on the night before.
Disappointingly, Nessus tries to assault Dei, who yells for help, and Herc... Shoots a single arrow. From a huge distance. To kill Nessus without visual. She didn't say "Hercules, help, Nessus is attacking me" she just yelled for help and... I can suspend my disbelief for a lot in these movies but this was just ridiculous. He could have easily killed his wife here. JFC.
Anyway Nessus is dying and whines to Hera about it, but then tells Dei his blood is magic and if she puts her cloak (which absorbed his blood) on Herc, he'll always be loyal to her. Even in the scene this doesn't make a lot of sense, but he claims it's because he loves Dei.
Herc (to his credit) does come to Dei. He blames himself for what's happened and offers to go home, but Dei... tells him not to? Urges him to help Iole? It's a bit odd. But she says she has to help those people and she gives him the cloak and tells him to use it at night when he's cold and think only of her.
Tumblr media
Herc and Iole get to some town where a man is just going apeshit destroying a pub or whatever, and Iole uses her special virgin powers to calm him down and figure out that he burned his tongue on soup and would have explained but couldn't talk because he was in too much pain, and he just needs a drink of water... and the guy is immediately calm. Like a toddler or animal. Except that he's a grown man, so this whole scene makes no sense whatsoever. I assumed this was some sort of like "oh, see, Iole argued with Herc that they should try talking" callback to Dei previously or something, but it's actually a set up for something else.
WE SEE TIM. He's clearly watching Iole.
Tumblr media
But I just got so excited because I love familiar faces.
There's a scene where Iole and Herc are camping out and she tells him a story about two lovers in the stars who are destined never to reach each other... And I was like WHY AREN'T YOU USING YOUR WIFE'S CLOAK? Guess it was a balmy night.
A Tim Balme-y night.
Tumblr media
Creeper character that he is, he's stalking Iole and we get a scene which is basically just more fanservice where Iole swims around naked (save for all her jewelry) and Lycastus (we don't know his name yet, but I feel bad calling him Tim here) watches her the whole time making wanton faces. It drags on a bit, and Iole thinks it's Herc watching her so she's playing it up... Yikes.
Lycastus attacks Hercules, and Herc is like "I'm not gonna dirty my hands on you" or something but then when Lycastus attacks again he's like "the next thing to break is your neck" which is sort of the opposite of what he just said, but okay.
Anyway Herc knocks him out instead of killing him, Iole explains that she and Lycastus are in love, but that it doesn't matter because the only thing that does matter is saving her village. And off they go, leaving poor Lycastus alone and knocked out in the wilds.
They get to town and everyone's happy cuz Herc is there to save them. At this point I was still very confused why anyone thought Herc could help, because, I mean... it's a big hole with green shit coming out of it. Hercules can't exactly beat it into submission, you know?
Tumblr media
Zeus shows up and tells Herc not to go down there because the only thing down there is death.
From my notes: "Hercules doesnt know if he’s mortal or not… and apparently neither does Zeus…??? Even though in the last movie they were like ZOMG IF YOU GO IN THE CIRCLE YOULL BE MORTAL. Guess that doesnt matter now?"
Seriously what is or isn't canon in this universe? XD
Anyway, Lycastus tries to tell Iole not to seduce Hercules, she's like "no, I love you, but I have to do this" but then these two start making out!! She's like "no, I can't (bone you right here right now)" but he argues that she wants to, and she's just like "yeah, but I can't" and Herc shows up right then to tell her that he just can't bring himself to go in that hole (in the ground).
Iole then strips and tries to convince Herc to do it for her, but he's like "nah, this is really uncomfortable, sorry" and isn't interested at all and honestly... his face when she starts dropping her dress? He seems so like "what is she doing?".
This is not a man who was ever going to cheat on his wife.
I'm still wondering if maybe he's kinda demisexual? Like he needs to form a certain kind of bond with someone before he considers them sexually attractive? Not important, just a thought.
HILARIOUSLY, on his way out of the tent he's like "Hey Lycastus, take care of her" which makes me wonder if he knew Lycastus was there the whole time, and chose to cockblock him when he entered, or...? XD
And it's only now, when Herc is deciding to go home, that he puts on Dei's cloak for the first time. It starts beating him up (really, just, watch the scene, there's no other way to describe it?) and when he finally gets it off, it turns into a peacock (for Hera) before disappearing entirely.
This drives him to throw himself into the hole because... he's mad at the gods?
Unfortunately someone runs and tells Dei that Herc is dead because there was a cloak that drove him mad. She believes he's dead and that it's her fault.
Then we get treated to more Michael Hurst (as Charon the Boatman, so a little less photogenic than usual), who informs Hercules that he's still alive. I thought it was kinda rude Herc stole his lantern (especially after getting a free boat ride) but I suppose even heroes can have flaws. (I say, knowing full well I will never blame Iolaus for stealing anything ever.)
Dei then, uh... walks to a cliff, thinking about Hercules, I think with the intention of killing herself already, but then it's implied that Hera gives her a vision of Herc reaching out to her, and she walks off trying to reach back to him? I'm not sure if Hera's involvement was needed, but maybe they wanted to soften the suicide angle a bit. But like, why would she have even been there otherwise, dressed like that and having flashbacks of him... ANYWAY.
There's a really weird scene where these three "women" come to Hercules in the underworld and start like, seducing him, I guess? And he keeps picturing sexy times with his wife (clips from earlier) and repeating her name... until he snaps out of it and kills(?) them.
Basically the dead are all after Hercules. Especially the villains he killed. Herc pits the villains against each other to get away. Honestly the fighting gets boring.
Nessus reveals himself to Herc and explains how he betrayed him. He reveals that Dei killed herself because she blamed herself for his death. Herc tricks Nessus into opening the portal to where Dei is (to "show" her to Herc) and Herc jumps through it. (Suck it, Nessus.)
Herc finds Dei, but she doesn't remember him. Hades shows up and (I actually thought quite reasonably) explained that he had erased the pain that brought her there, and that she was dead but basically happy. It's a reward for her good life. Herc says he's gonna take her home and Hades tries to explain that that's just, not really how death works.
He also claims that her memory can't be restored. But the moment Herc kisses her, she gets her memories back, so... that was incorrect.
Fortunately for Herc, Hades is dealing with a problem right now. Hercules offers to catch Cerberus for Hades in exchange for Dei leaving with Herc. They make the deal, even tho Hades is doubtful it will happen. And for some reason tries to raise the stakes on the bet by saying if Herc fails then she's Hades's forever?
From my notes: "I kind of loved Hades? He was actually being pretty kind to Deianeira etc. and it was reasonable for him to make a deal with Hercules. Eventually Dei will die though so like… IDK that was kind of a weird like IF YOU FAIL SHE IS MINE FOREVER like yeah I guess if you die, you're dead forever? IDK."
How does death normally work in this world??
The underworld guards were actually so funny. Some really interesting/fun costume stuff and fake limbs, etc. But clearly they were limited with the budget/technology of the time.
To quote my notes: "Speaking of visuals, Cerberus is… rough…" (Not even so much the practical props, but the CGI.. yikes)
Tumblr media
But Hercules manages to not only find, but corner Cerberus, and, remembering the TONGUE BURNING SCENE FROM EARLIER, is able to calm him down and get him back to his post instead of killing him. That's great and all, but I think the whole thing would have been better if that first scene had been about a child or animal and not a grown man.
To their credit, the guards seemed quite satisfied with the whole thing. I liked these guys haha.
Getting Hades back to normal saves the village, as the hole closes up. Iole apologizes to Herc and Dei, then announces that she's gonna start a family with Lycastus. Herc and Dei have some PDA in the town which makes me wanna gag just a little bit.
Zeus then comes to visit his family and he and Herc chat about whether or not Hercules is immortal, and apparently Herc doesn't care either way.
The movie ends on Herc being asked to help someone again (almost played for laughs? But not by the characters, at least).
Final thoughts:
Overall, a pretty solid plot.
I can't get over how stupid the soup scene is. Literally just needed it to be a kid or an animal in a similar scenario to solve that issue. It was great that it came back when dealing with Cerberus, but the initial scene itself was a mess.
I wanted to see more of Lycastus, not because his plot felt unfinished, but just because I actually really liked the character and it was Tim haha.
Once again I ask: How do we still have a wife and kids and no Iolaus???
I was not surprised that Dei died. But BOY was I surprised that Dei didn't stay dead. WTF.
On that note, I really like Dei. I liked how certain she was initially of her bond with Herc and that it was only after she was convinced that there was treachery afoot that she went to warn him (and I love that she was trying to WARN him, not be all jealous - she was told he would die, so of course she'd want to warn him)!
I also really liked Hercules's loyalty and the love he showed throughout the movie for his wife and kids. It's very endearing.
WHERE IS THIS GOING? How does this become the TV show?? XD

The goddess not so ordinary - Chapter 20
While the trio was walking thorugh the village, Selena kept her head down and her hair hiding her whole face. They arrived at the place, chose a table and sit on the chairs. Later, a waitress came and asked what they wanted.
- Hey Hercules, Iolaus and ... - The Waitress Camille says
- Elizabeth! - Selena says while Iolaus and Hercules look at "Elizabeth" confused.
- So, what would you like to eat? - Camille asks
- Uhh ... what would you like Elizabeth? - Iolaus asks while looking at "Elizabeth". But, Selena only shrugs her shoulder.
- Well, I guess we'll have the nicest meal of the day, please! - Iolaus says with a smile
- So, the same? - Camille asks
- Yes! - Iolaus says while Hercules nods
- So, is ... everything alright Elizabeth? - Hercules asks a little suspicious while Iolaus looks at her confused. But, "Elizabeth" only nods her head. Iolaus and Hercules try to make her questions about the way she was behaving. She only answers with her body. Sometime later, they get tired of finding out what was going on and gave up on making questions to her. The waitress arrived with their food. The trio starts eating. After they finish, both men lead Selena to their bedroom. But, Iolaus went back to ask for some towel and clothes for "Elizabeth" to change by herself.
- So, princess, is there something would you like to talk about? - Hercules asks Selena when they were  alone. The girl got desperate.
- How did you know? - Selena asks already scared of what Hercules might do.
- Well, your dress looks like one the royal usually wears, you didn't want to tell us about the place you came from and you tried to hide your face this whole time. Is Elizabeth really your name? - Hercules asks
- No - Selena says
- So, why did you lie? - Hercules asks while Selena only stares at him
- Look, we are not going to hurt you. Iolaus and I only want to help you - Hercules says
- How I can be sure that I can trust you? - Selena asks
- You have my word. No matter what happened, we  just want to help you - Hercules says putting his hands up
- Alright. Well, my real name is Selena. I'm a princess that escaped from my kingdom - Selena says
- Escaped? Why? - Hercules asks
- Because I feel that my stepmother wants me gone. I found her and my father in their bedroom. I think she killed him - Selena says
- Wow! So, that's why you ran away? - Hercules asks
- Yes. She sent guards after me. But there was a secret passeway under my bed, so I just opened it. Then, I found an exit and escaped - Selena says
- Look, I'm really glad that you decided to trust me. I'll keep your secret. But, soon or later, you're gonna have to tell Iolaus about you - Hercules says
- I know ... - Selena sighs. Then, the door opened with Iolaus entering in the room. He was holding a cloth and gave it to "Elizabeth".
- They gave this cloth, Liza. I know this is not as beautiful as your dress and looks like a servant uniform, but that was the only they had. It would be a good ideia to wear it for a while until your dress gets dry - Iolaus says
- No, it's perfect, Iolaus. I'll wear it. Thanks!  - Selena says grateful while she looks at Iolaus.
- You're welcome! - Iolaus says happy
- Uhh, whose hood is that? - Selena asks pointing to the hood on a bed
- Oh! It's mine! Would you want to wear it? - Iolaus asks
- If you don't mind, I would really love to ... - Selena says shy
- It's okay! You can wear it. There is no problem - Iolaus says
- Thanks! - Selena says
- Well, we are waiting downstairs. Just don't take too much long, alright? I want to hang out around here while the sun is till shining! - Iolaus says happy while opening the door
- Alright! I'll just change and then come downstairs - Selena says. Iolaus turns to her and says:
- Great! We'll be waiting for you! Come on, Herc! - Iolaus says and walks away while Hercules rolls his eyes in a playful manner. Then, he turns to Selena and asks:
- Will you be alright? - Hercules asks
- Yeah - Selena says
- Okay! Well, better make sure that Iolaus doen't get in any trouble - Hercules jokes while he and Selena laugh and then he closes the door leaving Selena alone by herself in the bedroom. Selena sighs and looks at the servant dress
- Well, better than nothing - Selena says

Helloooo agaiin Lovely!! We've discussed Iolaus having a badass gf but what do you think about Iolaus with a soft and shy gf? How do you think they'd interact,How they would flirt, how they even got together and other stuff? It's just something that has been on my mind for some time. -Iolaus anon
Hi friend! Ohhh you’ve hit me in a major blind spot here (definitely a personal thing, even a self-esteem thing, which is totally okay!). I’d love to know what YOU think! Please feel free to drop in a tell me your thoughts!
I love him so much please look at him omg
Tumblr media
Iolaus with a soft and shy gf.... I feel like that would be a big surprise for him! A switch from what he usually goes after, taking the show into account. It would be very different and new for him, so there’s obviously something very very special about you to draw him in. Once he notices it, there’s no ignoring it! He’s hooked.
He’d definitely try to flirt with you in his usual way- brash and loud and cocky. And public! It immediately embarrasses you. Maybe you don’t even respond, you just ignore him, or simply give an awkward smile before basically running FAR away from him. Of course he’s disappointed. And maybe even embarrassed of his own behavior. He’s been rejected before, but never in such a... humiliating way. At least the other girls teased him or gave him something to remember. You gave him nothing and what’s worse, he thinks he may have hurt your feelings. So he goes after you right away, ignoring the part of him that thinks he should give you some space. Luckily, Jason and Herc help him out, or maybe even Lillith or Kora give him some harsh advice. Leave you alone. Go for someone else. You made your opinions of him very clear, so he should listen. And he takes it to heart.
But despite what people may have thought (including me on my darker days), he doesn’t forget about you. He doesn’t grow bored or go for someone else who will give him more attention. Instead, he thinks really hard on what he can do for you- which parts of himself are already inside him and can come out to make you feel safe with him. To at least start a friendship. To at least get you to stand in front of him long enough to let him apologize in person. He waits somewhere he knows you’ll be passing by. Like if you’re a student at the academy, he waits outside your classroom. If you work at Kora’s, he waits until closing time. Basically, it’s somewhere you two can have a private conversation, but not somewhere you’d be alone with a practical stranger. He’s starting to think of these things now. He asks if he can speak to you, and then apologizes. Maybe he underestimated you, maybe he didn’t know how to handle your quiet side, or maybe he was overwhelmed by how nice you are or how smart you are or how pretty you are. He said the wrong thing and is sorry for embarrassing you and being inappropriate. Then, depending on what you’d want, he offers to walk you home, or carry your books, or just leave you alone from there. His effort impresses you.
From there, his kindness comes out whenever you’re near. You see his huge heart and his clever mind. His smile makes your heart skip a beat. He starts to realize that the two of you are truly building a friendship, even if you’re not very vocal about it or just too shy to say it. He doesn’t get disappointed when you turn down a study date or a drink at Kora’s. Instead, he invites more friends that you’re comfortable with so things are easy for both of you. More fun, less pressure. Until you’re happy hanging out just the two of you. He finds the things that make you comfortable and happy. Like holding your hand under the table, making bookmarks for you out of paper, and taking long walks through the forest. He also sees you making an effort to do the things he likes too, like go to big gatherings at Kora’s or the academy, watching/playing sports, having game nights with the other students. He starts to realize that as long as he’s there, you’re comfortable. It makes him very proud. He’s fallen pretty hard for you already, but after that realization, he knows you’re the one for him.
I just can’t get over how sweet he’d be with you! Outgoing Iolaus- so loud and brash and fearless going all soft for you. You bring out the loveliest qualities in him, but you also help him hone his wildness into passion and skill and strength as he grows. You both accept each other for exactly who you are and I think that’s really beautiful!

OKAY BUT imagine Iolaus and his gf having fun with painting each other (I mean like, body painting) and it's all just giggles and cuteness and at the end they get into a tickle fight or something and the paint just gets all messy lol -Iolaus anon
IOLAUS ANON YOU’VE DONE IT AGAIN! My heart soars!!!! The babe!! I love him so much omg I love when you share your ideas with me! Thank you! Such a treat!
I had to include one of my favorite pictures of him in the episode when the Amazons do put body paint on him. Pretty babe.
Tumblr media
Hmm hmm hmmmmm, so maybe you’re an Amazon? You and Iolaus met when Herc and the guys saved the Amazon tribe from slavery or when the Amazons came to the academy to fight the centaurs in Battle Lines. You grew close with Iolaus and sadly had to part as he returned to the academy and your tribe went on with their own duties.
BUT NOW REUNION YAY! Because the Amazons are celebrating something, maybe a festival or an anniversary of some sorts. Cyane invites Hercules because she wants to see him and for you, she insists Iolaus and Jason come along. Not that those boys would ever duck out on a chance to hang with the Amazons. So you all meet again, there’s tension, there’s wanting to be alone, it’s exciting, WEEEEE!!!
So you take him to your tent to get ready because as a guest, he has to wear the body paint and the certain clothes and so do you. Which is where this wonderful imagine comes in. You’re sitting in front of each other, knees touching knees, and painting each other’s faces, shoulders, hands, and you paint beautiful designs over his chest too BECAUSE WHY NOT WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO im fine im fiiiiine.
Let me tell you, there are no paint brushed involved. So you teach him how, by showing him on his hands and arms so he can see how the paint should be put on you. You slide the very tips of your fingers over his skin, starting at his fingers and his LITTLE THUMBS, over the lines in his palms and up his arms. And of course he’s like “I got this, no prob” and dives into doing the same on your hands. He paints up your arms and around your neck until it’s time for your face. He rises on his knees and takes your chin to keep you close. He’s very intense and concentrating because though he puts on airs, he knows how important this is to you. His fingers run over your cheeks with barely-there pressure and though the paint is cool, his skin is warm beneath it and as he holds your chin. Your eyes meet, his so warm and blue, so affectionate and appreciative. “Beautiful,” he says. “Are you bragging over your work?” you ask, teasing him. “Oh, no. The paint’s all right. But I have a beautiful canvas.” His thumb reaches up from your chin to run across your bottom lip.
“We’re not done yet,” you say and you swear you could hear him mutter “good” as you turned from him for more paint. You stand, he follows, and you put the paint bowl into his hands. You dip your fingers and reach for his chest before stopping, hand in the air. “May I?” you ask. He nods quickly and smiles. As you touch him, painting over his collarbones, down the center of his chest, he shivers. “I know it’s cold,” you say. “No, it’s not that,” he says, twitching again under your touch. “It’s just- hn- not there- it tickles.” At first, you’re stunned. But then, he’s able to watch a very mischievous grin grow across your face. “Tickles, hm? Right there?” “Yes!” You keep tickling him, covering him in paint, and he retaliates by holding your arms down and attaching them to your hips as he wraps his arms around you tight. You’re both still laughing, you especially, until he presses his forehead against yours. You share the same air for a moment before he moves to kiss you, very slowly as if he’s giving you plenty of time to move away or say no. But you don’t. Instead, you lean right into him and kiss his lips, pulling your arms from his loosening grasp and wrapping them around his neck. Doing what you’ve wanted to since you met him, finally alone, just the two of you.
He pulls away, eyes softer than you’ve ever seen them, but they quickly look panicked. “What?” you ask. He slides a finger over your forehead and lets you look at the mix of paint he took from your skin. He too is covered in paint, all shades and colors that have mixed with your own in your embrace. His chest paint is all over your shirt, the paint from his shoulders is all under your arms, your faces are a blur of color. You can’t stop your smile.
“Guess we’ll have to start again.”
YOU!!! What a beautiful idea! Thank you thank you thank you! I purposefully sped right through this because if I spent any more time on it I think I would explode! How sweet is this! Thank you so much for sharing this lovely idea with me and gushing about Iolaus with me! What a sweetheart! Would you give me permission to maybe play with this idea a little more? I am working on a story- long time coming and working- that may work with this! I can’t promise anything though! But It’s completely up to you and of course, I’d give you credit! No pressure or worries ever! Thanks again for sharing! <3

You Most
A/N: Here it is! Almost 4.5K about another Deano character I just adore. Someone help this sweet baby. Anyway, I hope you guys can enjoy even if you don’t know this character. Just picture long, blond curls and some really sexy pants that show off that Deano booty. And Deano arms. And Deano chest hair. And the Deano nose. And Deano lips. *purrs and stares off into the distance*
Pairing: Iolaus x Reader
Word Count: 4470
Warnings: Some violence, talk of injury, blood, and bruises, fluff, angst for plot
Summary: Hercules and Iolaus once again get tangled up with the Amazons, this time bringing their friend, (Y/N), with them. Usually Iolaus would be stoked to see the Amazons again, but somehow, with (Y/N) around, he can’t seem to pay them much attention.
side note: HOLY GOOD GOD LOOK AT HIM
Tumblr media
You sighed as you jumped over another fallen log in your path. “Hercules, you’re supposed to watch Iolaus. Then we wouldn’t be out here looking for him instead of skipping breakfast.”
Hercules huffed. “Why have I been appointed babysitter?” He pushed a low branch out of his way and held it for you until you cleared it. You mumbled your thanks.
“You’re his best friend-”
“So are you,” Hercules said over his shoulder. “If I have to keep an eye on him, so do you. Besides, he’ll be fine. He can handle himself.”
You scoffed. “If you trust him so much, why are we out here searching for him?”
“Because I know that if there’s trouble, Iolaus will find it.”
You’d reached a small clearing in the trees. Sunlight was barely peeking through the thick roof of leaves overhead and the ground was soft with mud and twigs. You’d never been this far into the forest before. Or this far away from the academy. When you found Iolaus, you’d kill him.
As if on cue, the man in question fell from the sky and landed in front of you. Hercules jumped with a startled shout but you rolled your eyes and crossed your arms over your chest.
“Did I scare ya?” Iolaus asked with a smile, leaning in to bump your shoulder with his.
“No. But you scared Herc,” you said.
“He did not,” Hercules said, smoothing his vest. “Why are you out here in the trees anyway?”
Iolaus shrugged. “Because I was bored and I knew you’d come looking for me.” He turned his attention back to you. “Not even a little scared? Your heart didn’t speed up even a little bit?”
“No, but nice try,” you said, stepping back the way you came. “Now, can we please go back to the academy? I don’t have a great feeling about being this far into the forest alone.”
Iolaus caught your hand and pulled you back to him. “You’re nervous out here?” He wasn’t put off one bit by the roll of your eyes. “Don’t worry, I know all about this forest and its creatures. I’ll protect you.” He stuck out his arm and flexed. Your eyebrows flew upwards and you poked the lean muscle in his bicep, making him yelp and draw back.
“Oh, yeah. I’m safe in your hands,” you said.
“You don’t have to be so mean,” Iolaus said thinly.
Your eyes softened and you gave him the first smile he’d seen from you all day. “I’m sorry. I’m just hungry,” you said.
He linked his arm in yours. “Then let’s go get some breakfast, hm?” He led you back through the clearing, with Hercules not far behind, mumbling about skipping meals for friends.
You stepped up on the fallen log you’d passed before, standing on top of it for a brief moment. Instead of landing on the opposite side, your waist was pulled back the other way with a shout of your name. Iolaus pulled you to him, cradling your head against his chest and you heard something whiz by your ear.
“What was that?” you asked, looking back to Hercules. Two arrows were stuck in the tree beside him. They’d missed their intended target: you.
Hercules ran a finger over the feather on one of the arrows. Then he looked to you with wide eyes. “I told you. If there’s trouble, Iolaus will find it.”
“Hey!”
But there was no time to argue. As you ran out of the clearing, a dozen masked figures fell from the trees above, hooting and screaming. You separated yourself from Ioalus and ducked, just missing the hit from one of the warrior’s flying legs. Ioalus wasn’t so lucky. You winced, hearing him go down hard, but you had your own battle to fight.
Two of the strangers surrounded you, using staffs to fend off your punches. Luckily, you’d worked with these weapons in the academy and you had a little knowledge on how to defend yourself. However, when another arrow flew past your leg, you lost your concentration and took a hard hit to the face. Then your arm was twisted behind your back by the wrist, making you cry out in pain. The mask stared at you and held you there. “Who are you?” you asked.
“Let her go!” Hercules yelled. He had gotten a hold of one of the enemy staffs and attacked the masked creature holding you off. Just before he could get a good blow in, all the warriors disappeared, leaving you, Hercules, and Iolaus in the clearing alone.
“You okay?” Hercules asked.
You nodded and thanked him, soothing the mark on your arm from the harsh grip of the enemy. You turned, seeing Iolaus slowly rise from the ground. Hercules held out a hand and he took it, allowing you to see the already red mark on his ribs through his open vest. “They got you good, didn’t they? Are you all right?” you asked him.
He smoothed his hair behind his ear and fastened his vest. “I’m fine.” Then he looked at your face. “Hey,” he whispered, taking your chin in his fingers. “You’re bleeding.” He tilted your head, tucking away a lock of hair that had been jostled loose from your braid. Before he could help you in any way, the flock descended again, capturing you all with your arms behind your backs.
“Are you kidding me?” Iolaus said, struggling against his holder. As they did to you, the stranger twisted his arm, making his shout in agony.
“Stop it!” Hercules yelled in his defense.
“You have us, you win! Stop hurting him,” you said, wincing at your friend’s cry of pain. Then, another hard hit to your face made you fall into the arms that held you. Whoever they were, they had impeccable aim, hitting the same spot as before. Your head ached and you wondered if your cheekbone had popped right through your skin. It sure felt like it.
As you collected yourself, blinking away tears and stumbling, you heard the guys screaming for your release, for the attackers to have mercy on you. They too, received hard blows, each to their ribs, as if they recollected Iolaus’ earlier injury. Who were these warriors?
“Take them to Princess Cyane,” you barely heard from behind one of the masks. You were stunned that the voice sounded female.
“Princess Cyane? We know Princess Cyane. I’m Hercules.”
He was ignored, jostled and pushed forward as the three of you were led further into the forest. You were placed in between your friends, and you couldn’t help but be grateful the enemy didn’t separate you from them. Your stomach sunk as everything familiar vanished and you wondered how far away you were from the academy. Even if a hunting party was sent out to look for you, they wouldn’t venture this far into the wild.
“Who is Princess Cyane?” you asked Hercules. That earned you a threatening hand from the leader in front of you. You flinched and cowered, but the blow never came. Good, you thought. You weren’t sure if you could handle another one. Iolaus watched you carefully. He barely nodded, as if he knew everything would be okay.
With every step you took, the throbbing in your face increased. Your eyelids drooped as you were led far away and your head fell, lolling to the side as you studied your feet. Then mud turned into clean, crisp grass. Ahead was a valley with simple huts and old stacks of firewood. You’d arrived at the enemy camp.
The three of you were pushed into a dark hut and forced to your knees. As you waited to be graced by the princess’ presence, Iolaus scooted closer to you, allowing you to lean on his shoulder for a moment while the attackers weren’t looking. “You all right? You don’t look so good, (Y/N).”
“Iolaus, you will never get a date if you go around telling women they don’t look so good.”
Hercules snorted from your other side. “Yeah, she’s fine,” he said.
“(Y/N), you know I-I’m just, I’m worried about you, I didn’t mean-”
“Hercules!” You looked up to see a woman entering the dark hut. The sunshine was too bright as she set the door flap aside, but you saw she was dressed in what you knew to be Amazonian clothing. She ran to Hercules, completely bypassing you and Iolaus as if you weren’t right beside him.
“Amazons?” you asked Iolaus.
He nodded.
“Release them immediately,” the woman you assumed to be Princess Cyane commanded.
You were lifted to your feet and cut loose. The Amazon who freed you gave you an extra shove into Iolaus when she was finished. He caught you, hand rising to your cheek, still clearly concerned. You straightened, waving him away.
“Why couldn’t they have recognized us before they beat us?” you muttered, adjusting your sleeves.
He chuckled. “Remind me to never make you skip breakfast again. You’re grumpy when you’re hungry.”
You smiled as much as your sore cheek would allow. “Sorry.”
Cyane passed you, walking hand in hand with Hercules. “Come,” she waved. “We have just returned from our hunt and have food to share.”
You were about to decline, say you only wanted to return to the academy when Hercules shot you a look over his shoulder. That, and the ravenous rumbling of your stomach was enough to make you follow them with a roll of your eyes.
A large basket of food and a small, private tent were given to you and Iolaus to share. You were grateful for the time alone which finally gave you a chance to get some answers from your friend. You plopped down on the soft rug and started to munch on the bread you were given, waiting for the steaming, freshly seared fish to cool. You groaned, happy to finally have some food, and fell to lay down on your back. “At least they can cook,” you said.
“Will you sit up?” you heard Iolaus ask, chewing around the chunk of bread he’d stuffed in his mouth.
“No,” you moaned.
“Do it and let me look at your cheek.”
“No.”
He sighed. You watched him scoot around on the rug until he could lift your head and place it in his lap. “Why are you so impossible?” he asked, ripping off another piece of bread with his teeth.
“Because I’m tired. And hungry. And my face hurts.”
“Well, this should help your last problem,” he said, pulling a small vial of white substance out of his pocket. “Cyane gave this to me. Should help with the pain and any scarring.”
“Tell me why we’re trusting these Amazons again?” you asked, closing your eyes as Iolaus tucked your hair behind your ear and tilted your head, giving him a full view of the gash just below your eye.
“There’s a long history there, but basically we’ve helped them, they’ve helped us and Hercules has a thing with the princess.”
“I saw that.”
“Jealous?” he asked.
Your eyes whipped open and he told you to close them again. You did so. “No, I’m not jealous. Hercules can have the leader of the crazy ladies as long as they don’t hit me again.”
He clicked his tongue. “This is already bruising.”
You hummed and flinched when a cold finger smothered your wound.
“Sorry. Am I hurting you?”
“No. It’s helping. It feels good, actually.” You concentrated on his tender touch instead of the painful throbbing in your head. Outside, you could hear music and drumming under singing. It was enough to make you drift off in Iolaus’ lap.
“Don’t go to sleep, you may have a head wound,” he said, bringing you back.
“How would you know about head wounds?” you asked, eyes remaining closed.
“I had one when I was a kid.”
“Makes sense,” you said with a snort.
“Shut it,” he said, but you could hear the smile.
You sighed and sat up slowly, knowing if you remained on the floor there was no chance of you staying awake. You handed Ioalus another hunk of bread but he juggled it instead of eating it. “What is it?” you asked.
“What makes you think there’s something?”
“I know you. You’re never quiet. You never shut up, actually,” you said, elbowing him.
“I could say the same about you.” Long shadows of the Amazons floated over the tent and you realized the sun had fallen low in the sky. “I’m sorry I brought you out here today,” he said. “Your pain, it’s my fault.”
“No, it’s not,” you said around the bread in your mouth. “You didn’t attack me.”
“If you didn’t come looking for me this morning you wouldn’t have been attacked at all.”
You were not used to this from him. Banter and insults, those you were prepared for, but not this level of sincerity. “I don’t blame you. We were just having some fun that went downhill, that’s all. And through no fault of your own.” You leaned back on your hands. “Now, I don’t really think we should have stayed in the Amazon camp all day, but if you trust them,” you shrugged, “then I trust you.”
He hummed, cutting the hot fish and giving you half. He bit into it and made a small, content sound. “We should bring them back to the academy. Teach those guys in the kitchens how to really cook.”
You snorted and agreed. “Hey, how’s your side? Didn’t look too good earlier.”
“Now, (Y/N), you’ll never get a date if you go around telling men they don’t look so good,” he said, a toothy grin sneaking into his features.
“I’ve had plenty of dates, now shut up and let me look at it.”
He waved you away, moving to get up from his seat on the floor. “It’s fine. I just checked it. There’s barely a mark.”
You saw right through him. “Then you won’t mind me looking at it.”
His jaw stiffened as he thought it over. Then he sighed, and took off his vest. You couldn’t help but wince at the dark purple bruise that covered his ribs. “Oh, Iolaus.”
“Don’t give me that look, I’m fine.” He grimaced as he tried to stand, a rogue grunt escaping him.
You waved him over and tugged a flat canteen loose from the bottom of a bucket. The leather was still cool against your fingertips. “Come here.”
He sat before you and you helped him lean back between your legs until his shoulders were resting on your thigh. You set the canteen over the bruise and held it there, listening to him hiss. “Does that help or hurt?”
“Helps. A lot, actually.” He wriggled in your grasp, grabbing hold of your calf for support with one hand, and hummed. He closed his eyes and you leaned against the pillar behind your back. “Don’t fall asleep up there,” he said with a smirk.
“I won’t if you won’t.”
Neither of you had much time to break your promises. Hercules busted through the door flap on the tent, sending a loud whipping sound through the air. Iolaus flinched in your lap and groaned.
“How are you guys feeling?” Hercules asked.
“Sore,” Iolaus said.
“Tired,” you added.
Hercules snorted, giving a hand to help Iolaus up from your lap. You followed. “Well, rest up because we have plans tonight,” Hercules said.
“Plans?”
You didn’t notice Cyane standing in the doorway of the tent until she spoke. “You all are invited to the banquet being held this evening. We’re celebrating our good fortune. Today is the anniversary of our finding this place to call our home, and now with you we can celebrate good friends as well.”
Before you could speak, Iolaus said what was already on your mind. “We should really be getting back to the academy, don’t you think, Herc?”
Cyane stepped to him and took his hands in hers. “Please, let us apologize for our needless violence. There will be delicious food, and a fire. Dancing? I promise you’ll all have a good time.”
Hercules squinted at Iolaus. “Every time we see the Amazons, you’re dying to spend time with them. Usually, you’d jump at this chance. Dancing with Amazons? Come on, Iolaus.”
He shrugged and shook his head like he was breaking out of a trance. “Yeah, you’re right. How can I pass that up?”
Then all eyes were on you. “Please, (Y/N)?” Cyane asked.
You agreed and chuckled as Hercules all but vibrated in joy.
When the sun set, you were invited outside for the beginning of the festivities. The valley had transformed into a meadow of lights as the stars shone from above and the flames of the grand central fire licked the crisp night air. The familiar drumming beat from this afternoon now shook in your chest as you passed the musicians banging and hooting to the sound. All around you were dancing women- twirling, leaping, and flying. They looked completely free, something you’d never quite felt yourself. You realized quickly why the Amazons were legends of their time.
You were led to a cleared spot near the fire which was marked off with heavy woven blankets. Cyane held her hand out, welcoming the three of you to sit down next to the bowls of food and the jugs of drink. You bent, but she pulled you aside. “You come with me,” she said with a bright smile. You shot a look to Hercules over your shoulder and he waved you on, moving to speak in Iolaus’ ear.
Cyane had a tight grip on your hand as she led you through the dancers, into the light of the flames. “I invited the three of you here tonight to apologize for our violence today.” Cyane had to raise her voice to be heard over the roaring of the fire and the drums. She took your hands. “But I especially want to apologize to you, (Y/N). Though we exist in different worlds, you are still our sister. We must work together, not fight one another.”
Life at the academy had taught you how to hold your own in a rank of men. But you couldn’t remember the last time you were surrounded by this many women. The power of their kinship washed over you like rain through a valley. “We are constantly fighting to be seen and to be treated fairly. I understand why your people felt threatened today and I appreciate all you’ve done to make amends,” you said, truly meaning your words.
Cyane nodded, pulling something from her pocket. “Tonight, you are one of us. And tomorrow, when you return home, know we are never very far.” A thick leather arm band was clipped together above your elbow. As it moved, the intricate etchings flashed in the low light. You’d seen the recognizable symbol on every woman in the camp and now you wore it on your arm with pride.
“Thank you.”
Another woman came to you who gently unleashed your hair from its braid and set a crown of twisted grass over your head. Then, you were spun by the hand and you found yourself dancing among the group. The fearless spirit snuck inside you like a quiet flame, then caught like a flint, flying out through your fingertips and toes. You spun, letting your arms fly about where they wanted, kicked your feet and leapt through your new comrades. Your limbs and skin burned but your heart soared. You were free.
“Can I join?”
You whirled to see Iolaus beside you.
“Am I allowed?” he asked.
You took his hand and turned underneath it. “I say you are.” You circled around him, dancing and laughing, but he soon caught up with you, pulling you to and fro and twirling you under his arms. Just a few minutes of his lead left you gasping for breath and landing hard on woven blanket Cyane had first led you to.
“How are you feeling?” Iolaus said, handing you the glass of water he’d poured.
You laughed breathlessly. “Pretty good, actually.” You drank, swiping away the loose drops on your chin with the back of your hand. “Herc desert you?”
He nodded his head to the fire and hummed. You followed his gaze and saw Hercules leaning a shoulder on the pillar of one of the huts with Cyane staring up at him with liquid eyes. His fingers fiddled with hers as they spoke and you couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Am I gonna lose you to the Amazons too?” Iolaus said, pulling your attention back to the blanket you sat on. “You looked pretty happy up there.”
“Nah,” you said, taking the crown off your head and studying it in your hands. The long strands were still a vibrant green, as if they were only plucked from the soil moments ago. “I couldn’t leave the academy. Besides, who would kick your butt in training if I wasn’t there?”
“In that case, maybe you should stay here.” He took the crown and placed it on your head, running the back of his knuckles down your cheek. “The freedom and courage this place has given you… That smile. It suits you.” The thriving fire made his blond curls glow like bars of gold. He pushed them behind one ear and lifted his brows, waiting for you to say something.
So, you snorted. You rolled your eyes and laid back on the blanket, tucking your hands behind your head. “Nice line, Iolaus,” you said to the sky. “You should go use it on one of those dancers up there. I bet she’d fall for it.”
He gave a harsh groan. “Really, (Y/N)? Can’t you ever just... forget it.”
You sat up in time to watch him storm away, past Hercules and Cyane, and into the small village. It took you a moment too long to go after him. After you met Hercules, waving him off and telling him to stay with Cyane, you couldn’t find Iolaus in the darkened passageway between the tents and small huts. You called for him but heard nothing. Were the echoing drumbeats drowning out your voice or was he simply ignoring you? You felt your stomach flip. “Iolaus, please,” you muttered more to yourself than to anyone else.
The maze of huts seemed even more menacing in the dark. The light of the stars only revealed that you were completely alone, now more than ever, if you’d pushed Iolaus too far. You swallowed the tightness in your throat and a rogue whimper escaped at the action. Then you saw it. The tent you had been given earlier to rest in. The flap was still swinging though there was no breeze.
You stepped through, unable to see much when the door closed over behind you. “Iolaus, are you in here?”
“(Y/N), just leave. I don’t want to see you right now.”
“You can’t see me anyway. It’s pitch dark in here.” You fumbled until you found the door flap again, pulling it back and hooking the hide on the pillar to keep it open. A flickering stream of light shone on the ground and up the opposite side of the tent. Before you could look too far, Iolaus crossed you, and left through the flap. You grabbed him. “Wait.”
“(Y/N), leave me alone,” he said, yanking free from your grasp.
“Iolaus, I’m sorry,” you said, taking his arm with both hands now. “Please, just-”
“I said, leave me alone! Let go!”
He’d never raised his voice to you before. His harsh sound sent your eyes burning and you dropped your hands, taking a blind step backwards and tripping back into the dark tent. “I’m sorry.” You were standing in the pool of light and he watched a shimmering tear slide down your cheek. He’d never seen you look so small.
“Me too,” he said, ducking into the tent. “I-I shouldn’t have yelled.”
“Do you really think I should stay here instead of going back to the academy?” you asked.
His hands flew out aimlessly as he shrugged. “Maybe! Maybe then I’d be able to concentrate on my stupid classes instead of thinking about you all the time. Maybe I wouldn’t bring you in to so much trouble-”
“I’d miss you,” you said. “And Herc.”
He snorted and continued his rampage through the tent. “‘And Herc,’ you say. Why is that always the way with you? I think for one second that you might- and then-and then you say something like that and-”
“I’d miss you more.” The smoke of the fire at the celebration had wafted in through the open door flap. He was a haze of golden halos and waving hands, but his blue eyes cut through it all. “I’d miss you most actually, no one else really matters. I mean, of course Herc matters, but-”
In two strides, he’s crossed the tent. A thick thumb waved over your cheek, erasing the stream of spent tears. “I’m sorry.”
“Me t-”
He kissed you. You hadn’t expected it and you wasted precious time being too surprised to move, but once his hand moved around your back, you returned his kiss. You wanted this feeling to last forever- his warmth, his scent, the tickle of the ends of his hair on your cheeks, his arms holding you close. Why had it taken you so long to get here? Maybe if you hadn’t been so snarky for so long…
“I’m sorry I made you feel like I didn’t care about you,” you said as you smoothed his hair behind his ears. “Because I do. I really, really do.” You kissed him again, feeling your heart’s attempt to dance to the drumbeat and break out of its cage. He was so perfect against you, nosing at your cheek as he caught his breath.
“I’m just sorry I’ve been an idiot for so long,” he said, chuckling.
“You’re not an idiot.” He was so close to you, you couldn’t think straight. You couldn’t decide if the smoke was stealing the air from your lungs or if his beauty was. “You’re… I’ve never met someone so-”
“Are you about to be nice to me?” he asked with a smirk.
“I was.” You snorted. “What was I thinking?”
His laugh tightened his grip around you and he kissed your forehead. “Will you dance with me again?” he asked, leading you out of the tent and toward the sounds of the celebration.
“Yes.”
Later, maybe you’d tell him how loyal and kind you thought he was. How great a friend he’d been to you for so long. You’d tell him he was handsome and smart and courageous. Maybe.

HC: Iolaus has a praise kink. You can't change my mind. -Artblock
How are we SO on the same page? I was just thinking the other night, entering my dark apartment after a long day at work, imagine finding him there to greet you and the phrase “hello handsome” popped into my head and I wondered if he would like it. I think he would. I think this boy has a praise kink. But I don’t think he realizes it right away.
Maybe you’re sparring together or doing drills together and he does something really well- knocks you on your ass. And part of him cheers like nobody’s business, but on the outside, he’s worried he’s hurt you and helps you up and asks you if you’re okay. And you’re like I’m fine! Don’t worry about me, that was amazing! You’re so great at that, you did it perfectly! Well done. Can you teach me? And of course he does, but he notices his chest fill with pride like never before at your praise and his stomach flips and fills with heat and he just thinks he’s embarrassed. So he spends some time teaching you his trick and you say I’ll never be able to do this like you and someone overhears you (like that asshat from the Cramp-ed episode) and he’s like Iolaus can’t do that, don’t ask him for help and you’re there instantly, defending Iolaus and getting a little heated like You didn’t see what he just did, he was perfect, he’d knock you flat on your back in seconds, you should be asking him for lessons, no one does that like him and Iolaus is SOARING. And then when it’s just the two of you left alone again, he tells you that you didn’t have to defend him like that. And you say of course I did, you’ve done so well today, I am really proud of you and that’s when he grabs you and kisses you because he doesn’t know what else to do and if he doesn’t touch you he’ll EXPLODE. And he pulls away, expecting you to smack him and you just ask him if anyone has told him how handsome he is and he just LOSES IT and kisses you again, pulling you closer than humanly possible because he needs you in his hands in his arms in his mouth in his heart.
So “handsome” becomes your name for him, not really publicly because he gets embarrassed, but you use it when it’s just the two of you or when just Jason and Herc are around. (And for my needy ass sake, let’s just imagine the Academy is not like a high school, but a place for like mid twenties people) This is brought into the bedroom and I don’t think it’s exactly planned. Like you take off his vest and run your hands down his body for the first time, just marveling at the lean muscle jumping under your touch and the soft curls over his chest and BELLY (SWOOON) and gods you’re so beautiful slips out of your mouth and you mean it, GODS do you mean it, and he knows you mean it, so he just pounces on you and crashes onto the bed with you under him. But you (being a badass warrior HELLO) flip him over and pin his hands down and your voice comes out so soft like I just want to look at you or I just want to touch you. So he lets you touch him and kiss every inch of him and he starts to believe you and trust you and want you so bad until he can’t handle it and he flips you over, taking charge again. And you tell him how perfect he is, how gorgeous and strong he is, how good he feels and how safe he makes you feel, how much you trust him, and he goes tomato red and hides his face in your neck, but you pull him off and tell him not to hide from you. I mean it. I know what you want, let me give you what you need and you praise the shit out of him until the world around him narrows to you and your voice and your body and he comes completely undone.
You cannot ask me about Iolaus and not expect a rant and a gif so here because BELLLLYYYYYYYYYY
